Sorted Hardwood Firewood!
2023.06.03 04:26 hazmatclean Sorted Hardwood Firewood!
Any of you fine folks know where I might procure a reliable and steady supply of sorted/species specific hardwoods for use in my smoker? I'm not interested in telling me to go to Home Depot or Lowe's, etc. I'm looking for "your guy" or at the very least a small business type supplier.
Thanks!

2023.06.03 02:52 HearingAidThrowaways Medication will not auto refill due to central fill?
Patient here. Sorry if i am less than helpful with the details, to be honest, even i am not sure whats going on.
Medication is corlanor (ivabradine) 5mg. I had to fight with the 800 number to start with in order to get this medication even stocked in my store. Apparently the issue was I was the only patient taking it, and thus their system was not letting my pharmacy stock more than 1 bottle every 30 days. After one call to the 800 number I actually was successful, I didn't have any issues for about the last 8 months getting it refilled in a timely matter on auto-refill. Even got 90 day supplies!
Then comes today. I go to pick up other meds for my parents, I told the cvs techs that in my app it unenrolled me in auto-refill for my corlanor and I asked if they could put me back on please.
They took a minute and then said, "oh I can't. It's central fill now."
I naturally go, "uhhh, what is central fill?"
They explain that now my medication will be coming from Phoenix and shipped over to them. I explained I had to fight to get this medication stocked in the first place, but also understood they weren't the ones opting into this system. The techs said that many patients are unhappy about this. I thanked them and then went home.
So in short: can someone actually explain what is about to happen to my heart medication? How likely is it ill be getting it on time now? I'll have to call to refill now like ye olden days, yes?

2023.06.02 23:47 sugawaraito Mom is threatening to kick me out over my cat
My 4 year old cat sprayed on the floor after he came back from being outside. For context I'm 23. This exact situation happened a year ago, he had been outside prior, but he never came back and decided to mark. Since the first time he did that my mom, understandably got very upset as cat pee does smell terrible and it's incredibly hard to clean. My cat however is a favorite in my house and we do have quite a few pets. My mom has stepped away from when it comes to caring for our pets as she leaves it up to my dad, my brother, and I, even though she will be the one to suggest adopting a pet. She loves them, but she refuses to clean up after them or engage in any care. None of us have a problem caring for our pets as we love them, and it's not a huge issue. I'm usually the main caretaker for all my pets so it's usually me doing the feeding, the cleaning, the bonding, all of that! When it comes to messes though, my mom will often blow up and threaten getting rid of our pets. Everyone in my house explains that having animals means a mess or two on occasion. However my cat peeing has been the straw that broke the camels back. The first time my cat did this I immediately started looking up for ways to start cleaning and despite my efforts and investment in cleaning supplies my mom blew up. For about two weeks she was threatening to give my cat away and was claiming she was going to bill me for the damages he did (he didn't damage anything besides the smell). I spent about a week cleaning and I finally got the smell out. I also scheduled (and paid) for a vet appointment for my cat to make sure he didn't have a UTI. He was fine and the vet explained it may be a behavioral problem and gave us some medication. So, with that being said I took full responsibility for my cats mess, paid for a vet visit, paid for the cleaning supplies, and got the smell out successfully. I wasn't mad about having to do any of this and understand it's all a part of having a pet. My dad or my brother didn't help me with any of this, for arguments sake I took care of this on my own. Despite this my mom was still mad that it happened and for months was threatening to get rid of my cat and pressuring me to find a home for him. I explained since I paid for the clean up, and the vet bill, I have a say in whether I want him gone or not. My mom immediately turned things into a screaming match and said I was disrespectful and that I'm disrespecting her. Whatever, we moved on from this and my cat hadn't had an issue like this until yesterday. Also noting, my cat has a tendency to run out, and our screen door doesn't normally close without a good slam and he knows this and loves to run out if it's left open. I noticed he has an issue with spraying when he comes back inside. So I made it a point to tell my family to please make sure our screen door is closed so the cat doesn't escape and we can avoid a mess of cat pee on our floor. So my dad and my brother followed that simple rule my mom on the other hand wouldn't follow that and I'd always find her leaving the door open. Whether thats on purpose or not I'm not sure. The other day, my cat noticed she did this when she came home from being out and ran out. Sure enough, he came back and he decided to pee all over our floor again. My mom at first was weirdly understanding and I immediately had cleaning supplies and a vet visit on deck but she was okay. Yesterday I spent the day cleaning up his miss and I got most of it. The smell was still there, but I know it takes a few cleans before the smell is gone. I took my cat to the vet, he got some meds, and I ordered more cleaner so I can get rid of the smell. After I came back from the vet my moms mood took a 360 and she exploded. She claimed I didn't do a good job cleaning and it still smells, and she informed me she's been asking for me to get rid of him. I let her know again I'm paying to replace any of her stuff that I used to clean, I paid for his vet visit, and I paid for more cleaning supplies to help get the smell out. She explained I'm ruining her house and my cat has to go. I explained that she isn't helping relieve the situation and she hasn't contributed to any of the clean up or the car of my cat since we got him. It's been entirely on me. I'd understand if she had been helping with the care and she's been contributing to his vet bills, and she's been the one cleaning but she hasn't done any of those things. And she claims she doesn't have to as he isn't her cat I guess. I explained that if I'm caring for him and I'm willing to pay for everything then I have a say whether he goes or not and she shouldn't have a say in if I need to get rid of him especially since she isn't caring for him. She got even more mad and said that either she's kicking me and my cat out or I can get rid of him. She told me I'm lucky to be living with her and it's not her responsibility to find a home for my cat since he isn't hers. I really am at a loss and I'm exhausted. I don't know at all how to go about remedying this problem. I don't want to get rid of my cat as it isn't fair to him, I took the responsibility of caring for him and I have no problem cleaning up or caring for him. However, I don't want to risk not having a place to live because I don't want to find somewhere else for my cat. I'm at a loss. Any advice is appreciated.

Here are some suggestions:
- Local Packaging Suppliers: Check with local packaging suppliers or wholesalers in your area. They often offer a wide range of shipping boxes at competitive prices. Visit their stores or contact them to inquire about bulk discounts or any ongoing promotions they may have.
- Online Retailers: Many online retailers specialize in selling packaging supplies at affordable prices. Websites like Uline, PackagingSupplies.com, and PackagingPrice.com offer a variety of shipping boxes in different sizes and quantities. Compare prices across multiple platforms to find the best deals.
- Office Supply Stores: Office supply stores like Staples, Office Depot, or even large retail chains often carry shipping boxes. They might have cost-effective options, especially if you're purchasing in bulk. Keep an eye out for sales or discounts that can help you save money.
- Recycling Centers: Check with local recycling centers or waste management facilities. Sometimes they have sections where they offer used or slightly damaged shipping boxes at discounted rates. While these boxes may not be brand new, they can still be functional and cost-effective for shipping purposes.
- Online Marketplaces: Online marketplaces such as eBay, Amazon, or Etsy often have sellers offering affordable shipping boxes. Look for sellers who offer competitive prices and read reviews to ensure their products meet your quality standards.

2023.06.02 20:56 CntPntUrMom Newly minted diamond Terran doing 1-base all-ins, story time and replays
I’m posting this because I wanted to give the other noobs some things to think about, especially for those who want to progress “quickly” with low APM and real life responsibilities.
TLDR: Used Pig’s 2-base marine, tank, medivac all-in to get to Plat 1 in like six months, got pissed off at DTs and went with a different one-base all-in for each match up to get to Diamond 3. So it’s possible to suck less even if you inherently suck and don’t have time to get good. Replays below. Feedback welcome.
I started playing ranked in October 2022 after getting to where I could reliably beat Very Hard AI after about a month. I didn’t know what build orders were so I just did what the game’s training module had you do: build a supply depot, some barracks, some marines and marauders, and then go across the map to fight.
As you can guess, I got my ass kicked when I got on ladder and settled into Silver 1 after making some adjustments with an MMR of 2250. I sucked for like a month before I found Pig’s 2-base marine, tank, medivac all-in (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2pIZNCtIis). Then I simply spammed that build all the way to Plat 1. I made Gold 3 after a month of that build in early December, then just a week letter I hit Plat 3. When that build clicked, I completely smashed Gold players.
It took me until the end of February to make Plat 1, however. Things do change in Plat. Everyone has a “real” build they’re working on. And by the time I was mid-range Plat 1, the 2-base all-in just stopped working. I ended up in Plat 2 again for a while.
The problems I faced in Plat 1 were attributable to other players scouting my build and army and being flexible enough to counter what I was doing. They saw mass marines and they build colossus or massed banelings. Or they built lots of vikings and some ravens. And they started to catch me out on the map when I wasn’t sieged. That would have been fine if I had better micro or scouting, but with a whopping APM of about 60, and just half a year of play under my belt, I just didn’t have the micro or the knowledge of the game to counter their counters (still don’t).
But what really got me pissed off in Plat 1 was all the early aggression and harassment, especially from Protoss. DT drop in my main at 5 minutes. Mass blink stalker when I have just one tank out. Cannon rushing. Proxy Stargate right outside my main with several shield batteries, bleeding me out with voids and tempests. Felt like a sick joke.
It’s at this level that I also started to get hit with competently executed roach ravager all-ins. Basically free MMR for the Zerg. Nothing I could do. Even after learning about the counter online I never really got it right. Plus, by Plat 1, Zergs know how spread creep, micro banelings, get surrounds, and focus fire tanks with mutas and roaches. So, you know, real competition.
Terrans at this level also started to rush, proxy, harass, etc. They especially start to get good enough with reapers to screw up your build timings and even snowball them and kill you. The fast 2 tank 8 marine doom drop was particularly annoying. And don’t get me started on fast BC.
So, at this point, I knew I had to make a change if I wanted to make Diamond, which had become my goal. I could either buckle down and simply get good by practicing new build orders against the AI, working on my mechanics, doing some micro training, off-racing, etc. But I have two jobs and a new baby and a wife and all that, plus my APM sucks, so all that Rocky Balboa shit wasn’t going to happen.
Instead, after getting DT dropped a few too many times, I decided to go to the dark side and deploy some “brass knuckle builds”.
What got me to Diamond was a different one-base all-in against each match up and the 2-base all in from Pig when it’s a random player. Why one base all-in? The theory is pretty simple, and applies to all RTS games (maybe even turn based as well), and others have said it better. But basically, if I invest in fighting units while you’re investing in tech or expanding your economy, and I attack you before you start producing off that larger economy or better tech, then I will have more stuff when I arrive at your base to kill you than you have to defend your base. There comes a point when your expanded economy or better tech will kill my army, but if I kill you before you get to that point, it won’t matter.
The real reason I switched, however, was pure rage: I was just utterly fucking done with DT drops. I wanted a build that would kill Protoss before the DTs came, or that would base trade well enough that the DTs on the map wouldn’t matter. Then I figured I’d just do the same thing to the other races as well.
After about a month, I found myself beating D3 and D2 players as I practiced the one-base builds in unranked. That was my cue to move back over to ranked and climb. And climb I did, and here I am.
Some replays of the one base builds are here:
Vs. Protoss (
https://drop.sc/replay/23661376)
2-1-1
Reactor marines, 2nd rax before factory, get stim ASAP, constantly produce marines and tanks, and when your two medivacs pop start moving across the map. Maybe mix marauders. Usually build a third medievac and keep pumping out marines, adding tanks if needed/as gas allows. The key to this is to keep the tanks alive as long as possible. Mules or scvs can help keep tanks alive.
Vs. Terran (
https://drop.sc/replay/23661370)
1-1-1
Reactor marines, start tanks right away, starport with reactor right away, and move across the map as soon as the second tank is out. Scan the natural/main before you show up to find tanks. Always produce four vikings, then third tank, and then the fight dictates what you produce next. Can also proxy the starport, but I kept getting hit with cloaked banshees or doom drops when I did that so I stopped. Sometimes if things stall out at their base, I build two medivacs and drop the main with two tanks and eight marines, then push the front. That usually kills one of us and I can move on.
Vs. Zerg (
https://drop.sc/replay/23661723)
1-2-0
Probably the oddest build. I don’t know if this is a “real” build since I more or less just made it up through trial and error, but I have more success with it than I do against the other races with the other builds. Basically I reasoned that blue flame hellbats would absolutely wreck whatever zerg had, provided there was tank support and Thors on the way to deal with mutas. Add in marauders to tank damage. Two marines to start just to deal with early lings and to snipe the overlord, blue flame ASAP, then nothing but bats, marauders (w/concussive), and tanks. Sometimes +1 attack if I’m feeling lucky. Roll out when the second tank pops, then either build a third tank or go straight to thors. Thors are better for larger maps because by the time the thor gets there the mutas might be out and you want two thors to fight the mutas.
Vs. Random
No sense showing you my implementation of Pig’s build. The only variation I make is that I hit with 1-1 a tiny bit later than he hits with +1 attack because I drop my ebay sooner. Costs me some marines early on but seems to pay off later and it does give me detection sooner. Sometimes I’ll even put reactors on the 4th and 5th rax if there was early harass or a failed push and I think I have the time.
So, that’s it folks. I figure one day these builds won’t be enough to have fun anymore and I’ll decide to actually learn the game. Until then, you see you noobs at your natural between 4-5 minutes into the match.

2023.06.02 19:48 RoyalArmyBeserker Can paradox stop changing the game for 5 seconds
Over the last 2 versions of the game (10-12) Paradox has completely changed vital elements of how the game is played like 6 times. Can they just fucking stop?
I work full time. I have a physical labor job that leaves me exhausted most nights. I have neither the time nor energy to re-learn how this goddamn game is played every 2 weeks. Matter of fact, I still play 10.8, specifically because that is the version directly before they added in trains and supply depots and aircraft designers and tank designers and now there’s rumors on this sub that might add infantry equipment designers.
Can we just stop? Please?

2023.06.02 18:16 Kdogchatterbox Lost my job today
First time poster usually just commenter.
I do have a job lined up on the 13th so don't fret.
But my rant and vent is I was laid off from January 29th till April 3rd. I have a home bills toddler etc so it was a struggle losing my remote job to needing childcare asap and being broke. Luckily was able to secure voucher for daycare but having a Autistic toddler that was even more stressful actually finding a place that he'd be comfortable at with a lot of patient people since a big change.
Now the last two weeks I was off from New job due to toddler sick and then myself the next. So racked up points at new job and ofc being in probation didn't help. I was informed I was to be on my best attendance wise or terminated next. Okay. Totally understandable. Well today toddler had a MELTDOWN to the point he threw up. Well I made sure to help him regulate before school and was trying to contact my mom to make she was up if I had to take him there instead. Well he decided he wanted to go to school(brought me his backpack and shoes- non speaking currently). Well by then it's part my clock in so I knew I was toast.(let supervisor know situation as soon as it happened) Got him settled and in daycare.
Then ofc I was called back and informed I was terminated. Blah. I never was this employee until I became a parent and now once I'd gone back to in office setting it went to shit so fast, im thankful i have the remote job starting but i wasnt planning on now lossing more time from not working anf more money.
Credit cards and loan options and borrowing from family Is maxed out and idk wtf I'm going to do. My partner is also already catching up from being laid off and me with only unemployment from lay off were super behind.
I'm currently denied for plasma donating due to meds. And on instacart and doorsash wait lists. I'm ubering but it's just not popular here. Or hardly covers gas some days. I just need other legit quick cash options even if it helps cover gas and pet food. I still have leftover food stamps and WIC for a bit of help and food banks but cash is still king and in short supply.
Tldr, I'm broke jobless and lost.

2023.06.02 17:43 Andinio More about the May 20th meeting
I wrote this article together with my wife, Roz. I will supply the links in a comment. Roz:
I thought I could add some personal insights into the guidance from SGI Vice President Yoshiki Tanigawa shared at the May 20th leaders meeting.
Andy and I are very proud of the beautiful life we have built for ourselves over 50 years of practice. Yes, we have the typical aches and pains for our age, but overall our health is quite good. Our grandkids are all thriving but, of course, there's the occasional cold or decisions about school, etc. Our days are filled with meaning and adventure. Our finances are strong and we are enjoying our retirement.
Andy:
So what keeps you up at night? Why all that tossing and turning I feel next to me?
Roz:
I am thinking about my district where I've been the Women’s Division district leader for about 2 years. My district is very fortunate because we have four-divisional leadership. Our YMD and YWD leaders are both courageous, thoughtful, and talented. We also feel great about our core group of members who practice with a deep sense of appreciation. Our meetings are always full of lively conversation. Finally, we like each other--but it took two years to develop trust and friendship!
What keeps me up at night has been our inability to form groups under the umbrella of the district. We have a large geographical expanse that covers 2.5 neighborhoods. We need groups to provide better member care and a stronger link to our community. This will be especially important when we return to in-person district meetings this summer. And, frankly speaking, the real joy of Buddhist practice lies in taking responsibility for the growth of members and our SGI movement. I want my members to experience this for themselves!
Andy:
So what are you doing besides tossing and turning?
Roz:
I have chanted a lot about developing group leaders. I have had many conversations and home visits with the women and my district. We have come a long way. But still, I have not made progress in developing successors. Sometimes I get frustrated and wonder what is it that I am missing.
Andy:
Did you have any big question in mind when you went to the meeting?
Roz:
Yes! I wanted to know, "How how can I facilitate the development of two groups in my district?" In his guidance, Mr. Tanigawa gave me the answer I was seeking by stressing the importance of returning to the basics of our Buddhist faith and practice.
Andy:
He made a lot of points, all printed up in the World Tribune article. It's too much to cover in one post so maybe we can get started with his first point.
Roz:
No problem. The first point he raised was "putting daimoku first." He shared guidance from June 15, 1996, when Ikeda Sensei spoke at a representatives meeting held at the New York Culture Center:
The first thing is to pray. From the moment we begin to pray, things start moving. The darker the night, the closer the dawn. From the moment we chant daimoku with a deep and powerful resolve, the sun begins to rise in our hearts.
Andy:
This June we mark the 27th anniversary of Sensei's 1996 visit to New York. At this time of the year, I like to reread Sensei's lecture "Thoughts on Education for Global Citizenship" he gave at Teachers College/Columbia University. That has become the touchstone for my work in education.
Roz:
One of my touchstones is the guidance he gave to New York members at the NYCC which Mr. Tanigawa was citing. How many times have I read this guidance! And yet it still is a fresh reminder for me.
I trained in ballet since I was a girl so I'm used to repetitive barre work which requires a lot of self-awareness and concentration to be maximally effective. But sometimes dancers lapse into a mechanical mindset and have to refocus.
It's the same exact mindset when I chant. Here I learn that I must chant with "deep and powerful resolve." It's only then that the sun begins to rise in the heart. I am determined to go deeper when I chant.
Andy:
Let's look at the next paragraph:
Hope—prayer is the sun of hope. To chant daimoku each time we face a problem, overcoming it and elevating our life condition as a result—this is the path of “earthly desires are enlightenment” taught in Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism.
Roz:
This explanation of “earthly desires are enlightenment” makes so much sense to me. YOU and I are old enough to remember Arlo Guthrie singing "You can get anything you want from Alice's Restaurant." That is
not “earthly desires are enlightenment” in the SGI.
I see here a three-step process. (1) Chant about problems to awaken hope. (2) Then awaken the life force and wisdom necessary to tackle the problem head-on and win. (3) Finally, share your victory and elevated life condition with others.
Andy:
That final point is not implicitly stated here but comes up later. We have to be the lamp bearers who convey hope to everyone else. Let's look at the next paragraph:
Suffering and undergoing hardships for the sake of friends and for spreading the Law are manifestations of the great sense of responsibility of a genuine leader and the behavior of a bodhisattva. There is no suffering or hardship that a Bodhisattva of the Earth cannot surmount. So no matter what happens, I would like you to advance steadily, one step at a time, always chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo with a vibrant voice.
Roz:
So this suffering I'm feeling about developing my district is actually the behavior of a bodhisattva! I had been looking at my quandary as a burden, a task assigned to me. It changes everything when I look at it as the behavior of a Bodhisattva. It becomes an honor, a joy, not a task.
Let me repeat one line: "There is no suffering or hardship that a Bodhisattva of the Earth cannot surmount." What am I worrying about? The victory is already mine. I just need to advance steadily and keep chanting with a vibrant voice. Let me enjoy the process! Those group leaders are already there or will soon appear.
Andy:
It sounds to me like you are supercharged. My district is also fighting. Let's encourage each other!

2023.06.02 17:31 fox-bun What's a good place to get (free) cardboard boxes?
hi! i run a little business & i've finally gotten thru my supply of smallish boxes that i had lying about to ship in. a huge part of my business is incorporating recycled materials for shipping so that i can do a little bit to reduce the overall waste in the world. because of this, i'd rather not go to a place like USPS and just take the pre-printed shipping boxes there (possibly making it so there's none left for other people), but rather pop in to local places if they're known to get rid of boxes. i know my local Office Depot saves boxes for customers but they tend to be much larger than my needs (theirs are PC sized and whatnot). i wondered if anybody else knew any business that regularly gets rid of cardboard boxes that are about "bread loaf size or smaller"? any advice would be greatly appreciated!

2023.06.02 15:46 DONT_READ_THIS_OKAY WE ARE APPROACHING THE END GAME IN THE DONBASS AND A LIKELY BLOODBATH
| https://preview.redd.it/vip9fnmxzl3b1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8ec7d85fc0f462cbdbd47ed57e0572c92126601 The final push by Russian forces to take and then permanently hold all that remains of the entire Donbass region is likely to begin within the next few months. After the taking of Bakhmut there has been something of a lull while the Russian troops rest and prepare. This does not mean that all sectors of the Russian military have been idle, the softening up of the Ukrainian lines has gone on apace through artillery fire and fire from the air. Ukraine in turn has not been idle either and has been performing an enforced mobilisation to build its forces to the maximum extent while seeking additional weaponry and ammunition. Many of the Ukrainian army is now only partially trained, some for only a week or two and quite possibly some may have only been handed a gun and told the rudimentary procedures for loading and firing it. It is inevitable that these, if caught in positions where they cannot be rotated out they are likely to drop their weapons and either surrender or flee. The coming battle will without doubt be fierce and the losses on both sides are likely to be considerable. The long-promised offensive by Ukraine which was supposed to take place in Spring looks likely in the next few weeks. Russia is currently moving forward more aggressively on the ground and attempting through an air campaign to eliminate Ukraine’s fuel dumps and arms depots. This war is about to enter what is likely to be its bloodiest and even perhaps almost face to face stage where no quarter will be given on either side. Without doubt the Ukraine authorities will have transferred as many heavy weapons including their HIMAR rocket launchers and Leopard tanks into position somewhere close to the front line where Russia is launching sporadic attacks. The number of troops will certainly number many tens of thousands. This may well be the final large scale battle for the Donbass. It is inconceivable that the remaining cities of Slavjansk and Kramatorsk will stand for long if the coming Ukrainian offensive fails. On the other hand, if the Ukrainians somehow manage to withstand the assault by some manner of means, either by sheer force of numbers, local knowledge or through the weaponry supplied by the West then Russia will have been delivered a major setback. If the first scenario above occurs then the rest of the Donbass must surely be in danger of falling to Russia within a period of a few months thereafter. A pause is more than likely immediately after the defeat of the Ukrainian offensive however while mopping up operations are conducted and the troops involved will be rested after this undoubtedly gruelling fight to prepare for the final push to take Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. If scenario two transpires and Ukrainian forces beat back the Russian offensive and their own offensive succeeds then some tough decisions will then have to be made concerning Russia perhaps finally deciding on another mobilisation from its reserve forces. In addition, the possibility of targeting Ukraine’s transport system, electricity (and possible gas) supply networks along with the perhaps more crucial targets of Ukraine/NATO command and control centres. The following phase of conflict in Ukraine appears certain to be extremely bloody. The Ukrainian regime and those standing behind them in the West appear dead set on continuing to fight on no matter how many casualties occur. The Russians, who have a military history where negotiations take place while conflict rages, have expressed an interest in resolving the issues involved since 2014 that way and continue to seek conflict resolution to this day. However, there is no reciprocal response from the other side even though such an arrangement did exist in the early days of the conflict. Neither side can afford to lose. And of course these sides are not simply one on one. Alongside the Ukrainians you have the entire collective west. The leaders of the West cannot afford to lose out to Russia. But equally the Russians cannot afford to lose out either, driving NATO from its doorstep and ending the ultra-nationalist Nazi-mentality so affecting a very sizeable minority in western Ukraine and leaving the citizens of the Donbass to their collective mercy is absolutely not an option. This is a fight to the death therefore, to the absolute defeat of one side or the other with (unless attendance at negotiations are agreed to by the Ukrainians) no way out but an orgy of death and destruction right to the bitter end. https://preview.redd.it/lpi7sphzzl3b1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc10d7657cbd119d2df4df16c881669928da02c0 submitted by DONT_READ_THIS_OKAY to u/DONT_READ_THIS_OKAY [link] [comments] |
2023.06.02 15:04 Gator588 Actionable Steps That are Helping Me
Hello All,
First off I want to say what you are going through is only temporary. It is easy to beat yourself up about it thinking it is weird, or stupid, but just know that you are not alone and there are many other irrational fears that millions of people struggle with every day. Having said that, I have found some relief recently and wanted to post on here in the hopes that it helps some of you.
My story of this phobia started two years ago where I felt like I couldn't swallow while I was eating steak at a restaurant. This instantly triggered a panic attack, fight or flight response that freaked me out. I swallowed the piece just fine, but I believe that experience triggered this phobia in my subconscious. This lead to two straight years of overthinking every meal I experienced. I will admit, my phobia never got so bad that I couldn't eat solid food, but I had to eat very slow, over chew everything, and overall just stressing about something that should typically bring you happiness. However, in just the last week I have found some relief, and with time I am hopeful that I will conquer this once and for all.
Now, we all wish there was a magic pill that could make this instantly go away. There are a lot of anxiety meds out there and they seem to help a lot of people. However, I believe that all these do is suppress the symptoms, instead of fixing the root cause. So that was my mission, to put in the work and find a way to identify the root cause of my fear and anxiety around eating. Here is a list of what I did:
- I listened to this podcast episode from Stanford Neuroscientist on Erasing Fear and Trauma. Here is the link if you are interested - Erasing Fears & Traumas Based on the Modern Neuroscience of Fear Huberman Lab Podcast #49 - YouTube
- One thing I took away from this and started doing is the Cyclic Hyperventilation. Where for 5 minutes every day for two weeks you purposely put yourself in a state of stress and anxiety. He explains it in detail in the podcast, but I am 8 days in and it is really helping. While I do this I think about eating scary things such as steak. If you try this make sure you follow his precautions that he mentions on the podcast.
- I listened to another podcast from Huberman (he is a wealth of knowledge on a variety of topics). Here is the link if you are interested - Dr. Chris Palmer: Diet & Nutrition for Mental Health Huberman Lab Podcast #99 - YouTube
- This is one of the most fascinated podcasts I have ever listened to. This guy has actually healed people with Schizophrenia through diet and nutrition. Because of this podcast I started doing the keto diet about 10 days ago. Wow! I can't believe how much better I feel and how better my mental health and attitude concerning food. Now, I know it may seem counterproductive since our phobia is around eating, but there are many soft foods that would be considered low carb or keto. Avocado, soft scrambled eggs, soft cheeses, and milk are some of my staples. If you can't eat any of those, you can always make shakes with full fat milk, almond milk, and a variety of other items to make a very healthy low carb meal replacement shake.
- Cold Showers
- Sounds crazy and woo woo, but there is actually a lot of science around the mental (and physical) benefits of cold showers. I have been doing this in conjunction with the cyclic hyperventilation, and I really think they are helping. You can even start with a warm shower, and then finish with the cold for about 60-90 seconds. That is all it takes to get the benefits. Look up the Wim Hof Method and you can learn more about this.
- Exercise
- You don't have to get a gym membership, just find something (walking, biking, swimming) that gets your body moving. Exercise has been shown to greatly improve mental health. I recommend some kind of light shoulder exercise and neck stretches to really help strengthen that area and help swallowing.
- Omega-3
- If you are on anxiety meds thats fine, but if not, Omega-3 supplements have been shown to provide an anti-depressant effect around the same level as an SSRI. You want to find a supplement that gives at least 2000mg of Omega 3. If you are interested, here is a link to what I have been taking for the last 10 days Amazon.com: OmegaWell Omega 3 Fish Oil - 2000mg Capsules: Heart, Brain, & Joint Support - 800 mg EPA 600 mg DHA - w/Natural Lemon Oil, Sustainably Sourced - Mini Softgels - 30 Day Supply : Health & Household
- If you can't swallow the pills, you can actually cut the tips off them and mix the oil in with a smoothie or water.
- Meditation/Yoga/Stretching
- I recommend a combination of these three. Find one that you like and try it out for a couple weeks. Focus on your breathing with any of these and they will help I guarantee it. There is an app called Plyability that use every night before bed. 10-20 minutes of stretching combined with breathwork and I feel amazing.
- Breathwork
- I like the app "Breathwrk." There are dozens of breathing exercises you can work on and practice for what you think will help you. What has helped me is doing the "Lung Capacity" exercise. It forces you to take slow breaths with a 20 second breath hold. It is meant to strengthen your diaphragm and increase lung capacity. I think this really helps with my eating because a lot of anxiety starts with your breath. If you can learn to control your breath and your mind while eating, it makes the whole experience much easier.
- Talk to someone
- Spouse, family, therapist, anybody. Find someone to talk to about this. I opened up to my wife about it (I was embarrassed for a whole to mention this to anyone and tried to hide it), and I have felt much better and much less weird or ashamed. So find someone that will understand and help you work through it, it makes a world of difference.
I know this seems like a lot, but remember as much as we want to snap our fingers and make this go away, thats just not going to happen. Sometimes it takes action. But that is the beauty in this! You don't have to rely on a drug or a doctor to fix this, YOU HAVE CONTROL OVER YOUR OWN MIND. And if you have the control, you have the ability to fix it. It might be hard and may take some time, but you have the power to fix this fear! Remember, it is HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY unlikely that you will choke to death. The data is like 1.5/100,000 people choke to death. That includes babies, elderly people, and non-food choking deaths! Your body is hard wired to automatically chew and swallow, so this fear is just your brain getting in the way of what your body naturally knows what to do.
Hopefully some of this helps, feel free to reach out with any questions!

2023.06.02 12:09 FitEyes Glaucoma Management With Changes in Lifestyle Such as Nutrition and Exercise
Secondary Neuroprotection in Glaucoma from Change in Lifestyle
[Article in German]
Glaucoma therapy usually includes lowering IOP, but a healthy lifestyle may also be recommended.
We discuss how this can be defined and the underlying secondary neuroprotective mechanisms.
One neuroprotective measure is to avoid common neurotoxic pollution like cigarette smoking, ethanol, methanol or lead. Nutrition should be rich in variety and prevent vitamin B12 and folate deficiency.
Over-consumption may lead to metabolic syndrome and increase IOP, arterial hypertension and serum steroid levels. Metabolic syndrome can also lead to decreased renal function, which can cause accumulation of neurotoxic substances in the blood.
Enhanced physical activity is useful, as this burns calories and reduces caloric intake. In contrast to over-consumption, during starvation ketone bodies like acetone, acetoacetate and β-hydroxybutyrate are synthesised. These are thought to have neuroprotective effects, due to the additional power supply to the mitochondria. Ketosis can also occur after increased intake of fatty acids - which is generally not recommended, due to the cardiovascular risks involved.
In addition to burning calories, endurance sports can reduce fear and depression, and neurotrophins with neuroprotective factors are released.
Genetically determined or acquired mitochondrial dysfunction can both play a role in glaucomatous optic nerve impairment.
Knowledge of secondary neuroprotective mechanisms can help in giving patient professional advice to minimise risks and to restore homeostasis in optic nerve metabolism.

2023.06.02 09:41 OneSensiblePerson May Check-In - An expensive month
Between needing to get a supply of flea/tick meds early for my dog, it being spring so had to buy tomatoes and some other plants (plus some related supplies), it being my birthday, and not having shopped for clothes for 2 years and many of the warm/hot weather clothes having worn out, I bought a lot more than usual.
But even still, it turned out I didn't spend that much more than usual because this time I thought things through carefully before buying, and after (returning a few things that I knew I just wouldn't be happy with).
It's been interesting going clothes shopping, and ordering a few things online I couldn't find locally. I bought so much less than I would have a year ago, when I first started no/low buying. Shopping smarter, or I should say buying smarter.
I'm much more selective now, thinking ahead of time what holes I have in my wardrobe, and if I couldn't find what I needed and liked, passing, even though I found some bargains. But it's not much of a bargain if it's not what I really want, and will wear. If something turned out to be meh, back it's gone.
One interesting side effect is the thrill of shopping, either in person or ordering online and having things arrived, has gone. I don't get that dopamine hit. I enjoy the things I've gotten, but it feels different.
Also needed to buy some new underwear; the ones I had were either ancient, or I never wore because I didn't like them. Bought a set of 3 at Marshall's, which turned out to be terrible when I wore one pair. The one pair goes in the trash, the rest donated.
Need a new handbag. I only have one, but am picky because it has to have all the features I like, look good, and be able to work for both everyday and any special occasion. My old one's been falling apart and showing a lot of wear. Think I good a replacement on Amazon, but if it's not what I want, back it'll go and the search will go on.
Almost no food goes to waste anymore (something I've been working on for the past few months), going bad before I can use it and that feels so good!
So overall, even though I've had to buy more in May than usual, I spent less than I thought, and learned some good lessons about how to buy.

2023.06.02 05:07 Useful-Bicycle I’m getting my supply back! Also, lexapro??
I’m so happy and just wanted to share…
I’m 8 weeks postpartum and endured 2 illnesses the last 2 weeks. I was already combo feeding as I’m an undersupplier, but that’s ok with me. I was making about 15 oz a day. I decided to quit pumping after I got sick and start Wellbutrin for PPD. Wellbutrin is not considered the safest for breastfeeding but it didn’t matter since I was quitting. As I started dropping pumps and giving LO one more formula, she was really starting to have some digestive issues. We are still figuring out which formula to feed her. I made it 2 days pumping 1x a day after spending a weak dropping pumps and weaning. I felt so much sadness watching my baby girl struggle with her tummy. I would have completely quit if it weren’t for that. I told myself I would not throw in the towel just yet and try to get my supply back for the sake of her comfort.
It’s been 3 days of pumping more routinely again and I made 4 oz today (compared to drops on my last day of weaning this past weekend!)
I still have a lot of work to do but I just wanted to share my journey of “almost relactating”.
I will plan to switch my PPD med to lexapro that my OB is offering. I’m nervous about this as I’ve heard it can cause weight gain. Can anyone share their experience?

2023.06.02 04:52 skorpio737 FET # 2 plan help
I just had my first FET fail this week post 2 months of depot lupron (receptiva 3.5) I had a call with my doctor who gave me two options since he considers this now “uncharted territory with no data” so basically could give me a proper answer for what to do next and is leaving it up to me. That makes it so much worse because I feel whatever I pick will not be the right choice.
- I jump straight into estrogen patches on day 3 of my bleed (withdrawal bleed from stopping all meds PIO and estrogen patches Monday). So just have the same protocol I just came off (which was estrogen patches, antibiotics, steroids 6 days before transfer, baby aspirin)
- On day 3 of withdrawal bleed take birth control for 16-21 days and overlap last 5 days with daily lupron. Wait for bleed then start then estrogen about 6 days later. Continue daily lupron until I start PIO
I’m trying to figure out which one allows me to hold to any lupron effects still (I was told before lupron can last 6 months or something and now I’m being told different so I’m not even sure anymore). My thought initially was maybe just go straight into another FET and hope the previous estrogen didn’t mess with inflammation too much. But then I think maybe doing some lupron with option 2 may add back some of benefit of lupron again?! But with that I’m on birth control too and that has some estrogen.
So I just don’t know what to do and any thoughts or maybe if anyone had something similar could help me figure out how to decide?!!
