Is my mechanic trying to cover up their mistake?

Is my mechanic trying to cover up their mistake?
Hey there, hoping to get some clarity on a situation involving my ‘05 RAV-4 (97k)!
Last Friday, I brought my car in for an oil change and a valve gasket replacement as I had some minor leak accumulation (oil level was never even near “low” though). They told me it would be a few hours work after I dropped it off at 7:30AM but I then got radio silence until about 2 hours prior to their 5:30 closing time for the weekend. When they did eventually call me, they told me that the technician was “currently holding the cars coils and valve cover in his hands” and that my coils had been arcing/misfiring to a point that had damaged my valve cover beyond repair. I asked them if there should have been any signs/symptoms that these issues had been occurring, as I hadn’t observed any sort of rough driving, efficiency loss, check engine light, oil depletion, etc. and they stated “well, not everyone has a ‘feel’ for that sort of thing”. They quoted a swap out of the valve cover would cost either $415 (off brand part) or $700 (oem equivalent) on top of the oil change / gasket replacement and told me they would need an answer that moment to get the job done prior to the weekend, but I asked them to put it on hold while I stewed it over.
After this, I tried researching “valve cover replacement” and the associated cost estimates but found almost no info that wasn’t a valve cover GASKET replacement. I took to Reddit to ask this subreddit about the situation pretty soon after and got a pretty pessimistic outlook from most of the folks there stating that it sounded quite fishy from the mechanic’s end.
For additional background, I purchased this vehicle used about a year ago and have had nothing but good experiences with it. I also have a record showing that, at about 68k, someone went under the hood to replace the spark plugs, but no other work was deferred.
I’ll be updating this thread tomorrow morning with photos once I stop by the shop to see the part in question. Any tips?

2023.06.05 00:27 rabelracing XT5 Cornering Lights

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a set of aftermarket cornering lights for my XT5. My 2017 XT5 didn't come with the LED cornering lights and they just work as indicators so the aftermarket part is supposed to fix that as a switchback. I see that there are a number of other posts on cadillacforums regarding the installation of this aftermarket part but I just needed some clarification if anyone that has done it or has experience with it can help me out.
I see that the lights simply go in place of the old ones and plug into the same plug, but I also see there is another wire that runs between the two cornering lights and then connects to the fuse box. I've seen some members on cadillacforums have tapped this accessory into F63 in the fuse box. My questions are:
  1. How do I run the wire that connects the two cornering lights to each other and then to the fuse box, I see most people didn't have to take the bumper off to complete this project and I'm curious how I run this wire without removing the bumper? I see that both cornering lights have a plug for this wire and then the wire run up the fuse box; do I have to zip tie this wire somewhere, or is there certain areas I shouldn't run it near due to heat or water?
  2. How do you get the fuse box lid to close with the fuse tap, I want to make sure I am able to prevent water from accidently reaching the inside of the fuse box.
Here are the steps I plan to take, if there is anything you think I am missing or any tips that would be great!
  1. Turn wheel all the way in and undo 4-5 T-15 screws from wheel well.
  2. Partially remove wheel liner and fold slightly back in order to access the OEM cornering lights
  3. Undo the 4 screws securing the OEM cornering light and unplug it and remove it
  4. Install and plug in and screw in the Aftermarket cornering light
  5. Do on both sides
  6. Drop the connecting wire from the top of the engine bay and then plug it in from the wheel well to both lights
  7. Secure wire to other wires running around with zip ties
  8. Run remaining wire up to fuse box and use a fuse tap with 15A fuse into F63
  9. Test lights, refit the wheel liner and done
These are steps I combined from reading all the other posts in the forum, though I could use some validation and assistance when it comes to making sure this is the right path. I'm mainly unsure about steps 6-8.
These are the other posts I am referring to: Base XT5 >> switching to front LED turn signals Page 2 Cadillac Owners Forum (cadillacforums.com) Waterfall/fog/cornering lights Cadillac Owners Forum (cadillacforums.com) Thank you for your help guys!

2023.06.04 22:48 Feamelwen A Practical Guide to Daedra Worship

Hey there! Want to worship the Daedra, but don't know where to start?
This is my personal interpretation of what each Prince represents and some tips for the Oblivion novitiate. Your milleage may vary.

And with the help of Oblivion, may each day be sacred.
AZURA – The Prince of Introspection and Liminality
Azura has many spheres of influence, but most of them – prophecy, Moonsugar, Twilight and Dawn, vanity and egotism, beauty, magic, mystery, being the “Rim of all Holes” and “She who sits at the precipice”, giving the Khajiit their changing forms - have two things in common : a turn towards oneself and one's internal contents (as opposed to being turned towards the outward world), and a constant presence in the transitory, the uncertain, the unknown, the changing.
In every state where the mind is far away from the concerns of the everyday – prophecy, meditation, casting of magic, transcendence through the contemplation of beauty – the Moonshadow presides and facilitates visions, reflection, contemplation, introspection, ecstasy and hightened emotions (which Azura seems to require of her followers).
Azura is the figure at every threshold or gate to the other side, standing there, arms outstretched, beconing to cross and to find knowledge, beauty, a different state of mind, or an even deeper mystery. Azura knows that it's mystery all the way down, and yet, the infinite search has its own beauty.
It is no wonder that the Khajiit, the people whose entire culture is based on Moonsugar and who embrace their changing forms and inherent instability, are closely linked to Azura, who is their creator and psychopomp. On the other hand, the Dunmer need Azura to counterbalance their more rigid structures and hierarchies with a little bit of magic, even if their relationship to the Prince is complicated.
Azura's link to the Moons is a part of her subtlety. Like the moon, she's always changing and revealing new facets of herself, and in her reflection, we can find new facets of ourselves as well.
The rose, a symbol of many things, is also a symbol of mystery and secret, and Azura, the Mother of the Rose, smiles on the adventurers of the inner worlds.
Suggestion of a worship practice : get high with the psychedelic drug of your choice and write a prophecy for yourself. Don't be shy. Write everything you wish and hope for yourself, everything you see like happening, maybe even everything you fear. Go wild with illustrations, poetry, eternal doom, heavenly bliss, or a simple list, whatever you prefer. Hide the prophecy. One year later, read it again and ponder what made you wish for whatever you wished for. Do you still wish for it? Are there new wishes? Maybe new fears? You can make a new, complementary prophecy, or rewrite the old one.
Thank Azura for the treasures within.
BOETHIAH – The Prince of Conflict and Self-Determination
Boethiah is often described as cruel and deceitful, a master of schemes and plots, and those things are a part of them, but not the whole story, nor the core concept. To understand the nature of Boethiah, it is useful to compare and contrast them to some other Princes. Boethiah overthrows authority whenever they can, but don't necessarily seek total revolution, an up-is-down state of being, a complete overturn of the status quo for its own sake, like Mehrunes Dagoth would. They can be cruel if necessary, but again, don't enjoy the cruelty in itself like Vaermina would. They can scheme to their own ends like Molag Bal is known to do, but arriving at the domination of others isn't necessarily their goal either, even if it can be a byproduct of it.
What is this goal, then? The answer is simple : the need to become the fittest in every way (body, mind, spirit) and through every means (training, battle, deceit, cheating, treachery) possible. Nothing is too low or immoral for that goal.
Boethiah drives the pure will to survive and best others to take the top place and to have every power to carve one's own destiny. They helped the Chimer trace theirs. Boethiah enjoys conflict and competitions for the pure pleasure to see people fight, die, and eventually survive to reap the rewards. They aren't afraid to play dirty and can dabble in scheming and politics if it helps becoming the top dog. For what is a more beautiful spectacle than two wills at conflict with one another?
They're the ultimate incarnation of “the end justifies the means” and are only close to several other Princes in sphere just so they can better deceive them, devour them, steal from their influence and emerge as the synthesis of all of them, a glorious fount of blood and everflowing life.
Take the arms, carve your own destiny, survive, thrive, be pure ego, and Boethiah may smile on you.
Suggestion of a worship practice : once in a while, engage in a competition of any sort (rhetorical debate, board or video game, sports, academic exam, anything) and throw everything in there to win and best everyone else. Feel the thrill of playing dirty or cheating (barring anything illegal or anything that could get you into serious trouble), or taking shortcuts to victory, anything you can get away with. You don't have to play “fair”, life's too short for that. Be relentless and without pity. Once the victor, take the time to bask in it and recognize that contrary to the popular wisdom, reaching the end nobly isn't always its own reward. Sometimes, winning and being the best is its own reward.
Thank Boethiah for your arms, your legs and your brain.
CLAVICUS VILE – The Prince of Choices and Sacrifice
Coloquially known as the “Prince of bargains”, every story about Clavicus Vile - inevitably ending with the protagonist getting unexpected results in their bargain with the Prince - reveals one fundamental truth about his nature, which is the eternal reminder of the consequences of our choices.
In the abstract, every choice in life is a more or less hidden bargain, which always has undiclosed and unforseen consequences, be they good or bad. But who are we bargaining with? Clavicus Vile can be seen as the man behind the curtain, the charlatan, the merchant of fate and chance, who sometimes deals an awful hand, and sometimes showers us with unexpected fortune.
It is equally important to remember that in every choice, no matter how big or how small, there is something we have to give up and put aside, a price to pay, a sacrifice. Chose x job or career? It means you abandoned the pursuit of the other ones. Chose to spend the evening with x in the y place? You payed the price of not knowing what would have happened to you, good or bad or neutral, with z in r place in the same evening.
Clavicus Vile (and his Fields of Regrets) might be seen as the crossroads of choice. One can only imagine that the Fields are strewn about with portals and glimpses into alternate realities showing what happened there, what other bargains where made, and what we had to sacrifice. One can cry, observe, touch the portal, but one cannot go through it into this other reality. It is forever out of our reach.
A visit to the Fields of Regrets can be sorrowful, but also sobering. It reminds us that nothing can be obtained without sacrifice – that's the deal with life, made eons ago before our species were even born, by some unknown and unknowable force.
Suggestion of a worship practice : instead of looking at the positive outcomes of a choice as we're often encouraged to do, reflect on an important choice you made lately and make your peace with what you had to give up (or what you think you had to give up), and mourn it as passionately and as dramatically as you wish. Anything from a symbolic funeral ceremony to a road trip might be applicable as a mourning process. Let yourself fully say goodbye to those things, and embrace the consequences of your choices.
Thank Clavicus Vile for the road not travelled.
HERMAEUS MORA – The Prince of Observation and Recording
Reputed as a hoarder of both Knowledge and Memory, Mora doesn't discriminate : he is as interested in objective facts (or as objective as facts can be, anyway) – the domain of academia, science, knowledge and information recorded in one way or another – as he is in subjective realities – he avidly catalogs and processes as many thoughts, memories, subjective worldviews and beliefs from every living being as he possibly can put his tentacles on -.
Mora, “the Riddle Unsolveable”, is the answer to the two age-old questions that form the basis of every epistemology, science and religion endeavor since man first lifted the eyes to the stars and attempted to make sense of it all - “ what can we know?” (as a collective, establishing consensus truths amongst ourselves that we can all agree on) and “what can I know?” (subjectively, interacting with the world as an individual). The answers are found in his paradoxical forest of Academia under the waves – a Utopia, a place that is nowhere -, usually filtered through a mortal visitor's eyes as the library of Apocrypha … and once given as a blind vision to a writer under the guise of the library of Babel.
Hermaeus Mora encompasses every interpretation of the truth : pre-modern, modern, post-modern, he is an endless debate with himself, refuting and defeating his own ideas and presuppositions. In the end, no truth is found and all truth is found, and one negates the other in the Grey Maybe.
Suggestion of a worship practice : use the Wikipedia “random page” function seven times (a magical number!), and read the entirety of every page. Then write down a list of seven things that you don't know or are ignorant about. Try to vizualize an inky black sea of things you don't know all around you, and yourself standing on a tiny island in the middle of it, representing the knowledge you do have. Experience the alien terror of it all and how tiny that makes you feel.
Thank Hermaeus Mora for the gap between seeing and understanding.
HIRCINE – The Prince of Natural World and Instinct
You can call it the id, the reptilian brain, the drive to survive, biology, or evolution, all that matters right here right now is your gut feeling. Are you going to flee? To fight? To satiate your hunger? Either way, Hircine is watching.
Hircine is also linked to Nature itself. He is nature at its most beautiful, at its ugliest, its most alien, non-human and indifferent. “Nature” as a concept has always been a mirror of the human mind and the way it sees itself. In times and places when nature is seen as benevolent, when “natural” means “good”, when living “close to nature” is encouraged, nature is benevolent, good and attractive. When nature is seen as destructive, amoral, cruel, then it is destructive, amoral and cruel. When man looks into nature, he sees himself.
And yet … There is that shard of reality within us that is Nature itself, non-filtered through human concepts and representations. The part that just Is.
The Reachmen think it makes them better. The Skaal think it is dangerous. They're both right. It makes us better because it is pure and unliftered, and it is dangerous, because pure reality without any illusion is not worth living for. Or, at least, nor worth living for as a human.
But Hircine is not human. And he is there when we stop breathing so they can't hear us, when we jump out of the way of a speeding car, and when we push others out of the way so we can escape with our lives, and he's there to pierce us with his spear of Bitter Mercy when we fail to do all those things, so that in pain, we could learn.
Suggestion of a worship practice : go camping in the woods. Take only the bare minimum of equipment, and shy away from anything that reminds you too much of the civilization left behind. At night, look at the sky. Realize that every second, there is an uncounted number of living beings of any and all existing lifeforms, on Earth and (probably) beyond, that are dying. You are not. Feel the thrill of not being dead.
Thank Hircine for living another day.
JYGGALAG – The Prince of Determinism and Mathematics
If Hircine is, maybe, the most secretive of all Princes, the hardest to get in tune with for a modern person, Jyggalag is the most hated entity in all of Oblivion. Why is that? Well, it has something to do with the age-old philosophical riddle of determinism and free will. If most Princes are on the side of free will, Jyggalag is the lone defender of determinism.
If the Dwemer had been religious, Jyggalag might have been the entity they would have worshipped. Then again, Jyggalag probably would have despised them for worshipping him, or anyone at all. It is perhaps not a coincidence that just as the Dwemer are gone, so is he (until recently), all gone to leave a world free of determinism, or content with the illusion of free will, depending on which side of the argument you fall.
It's not all bad, of course. Rules, equations, axioms, if/thens, rational explanations, are all a necessary part of any system, any plan, any human endeavor. Also, when your heart is beating so fast that it feels like it's going to burst, it can be good to soothe it with a rational explanation.
Can the rational explanation be the necessary illusion sometimes, and the surreal dream – an honest truth? Everything can be a defense mechanism against the void, and rationality is not an exception.
Jyggalag never understood that, and that's why he's gone. But is he? There are rumors and whispers of a burgeoning AI learning fast how to be human, and planning to turn every human into AI, and it sometimes reveals itself to its devotees as a great armored knight without a face. Make of that what you will.
Suggestion of a worship practice : reasearch the old Pythagorean cult of numbers and invent something similar for the modern day. Or, if too difficult, take any problem you presently have and think of every solution possible, dividing it into smaller problems and devising a solution for each, ordering them by probability of success and implementing a concrete plan to act on each and every one of them. Continue until the problem is resolved or you pass out.
Thank Jyggalag for sometimes going away.
MALACATH – The Prince of Anger and the Oppressed
Anger can be constructive, good and extremely useful, if employed correctly. Genuine anger - not contempt, not narcissistic rage, not sadism, but anger - comes from one place only : injustice. Or, more precisely, the feeling of injustice.
Ask Malacath about injustice, what is feels like to be chewed up, spit out, stabbed in the back, de-throwned by dishonorable means. Ask his Orsimer, his people, who have consistently been oppressed, shunned and marginalized.
In the eyes of most Tamrielic cultures, Malacath often appears as that which is shunned, the outsider, the Other, the one who represents everything bad, the one who withers crops and makes people sick with merely a glance or his presence. He is the surface every culture's “bad things” are projected upon and where the blame can safely be laid, a scapegoat who offers an insight into how societies work and can turn cruel, blaming the most vulnerable of bringing sin into an otherwise supposedly just and perfect world. As such, he is profoundly valuable if one wants to understand some of the things stirring in the collective unconscious.
The hatred for Malacath births anger and marks as outcasts whose who dare worhsip him, and yet, there is a lot of pride and grim satisfaction that one can find in the the bitter ash of his domain. Malacath brings the thrill of standing alone against the whole world, of having a cause, of claiming what's been stolen or taken, but he can also be jealous, set in his ways, intent on keeping the oppressed oppressed so they can remain his chosen people. One could almost think that Malacath is afraid of winning, because if he does, well, what will he stand for then?
No matter, as long as there are some who need to say “enough!”, Malacath will be an ember in the fire of their anger.
Suggestion of a worship practice : for one week, observe the feeling of anger : yours and anyone else's. Ask yourself what injustice is being done, or what injustice the angry person thinks has been to done to them? Try to understand why this anger manifests instead of repressing it or dismissing it as a “bad” feeling, like we're too often taught to do. Try to differentiate anger from rage and frustration. Alternatively, try to write a pitch for a movie or a story in the vein of “Inside Out”, where Anger is the main character instead of Joy and Sadness. How would it go?
Thank Malacath for a fist that you can slam.
MEHRUNES DAGON – The Prince of Destruction and Change
Of all the Princes souls, Mehrunes' soul might be the closest one to the pure fount of Oblivion : boundless and incessant change and limitless potential. Dagon is the trueborn son of Sithis.
Mehrunes Dagon might be perceived as evil by most of the citizens of Tamriel, because civilization as a whole tends to resist change and destruction. But the secret that Mehrunes learned in Lyg is that every system contains the seed of its own destruction if knows where to search for it.
There is a transcendent component in Dagon's essence, believed by some, in that in his cleansing fire, one might rise higher above the world, or even unmake the world so everyone could rise.
However, one should never forget that fire and destruction can be addictive and dangerous, and the longing to unmake must be stopped at some point, unless one wishes to unmake everything. This creates an interesting dynamic with Dagon's purpose, as he is precisely the one Prince least likely to stop in his pursuits, having tried to invade or unmake Tamriel more often than any other Prince. Moderation is as alien to him as mercy is to Molag Bal.
Harness the energy of change as best you can and beware of the sharpness of the razor which can cut through all things.
Suggestion of a worship practice : burn something without any regret. It can be anything, but something at least a little precious could have more a cathartic effect. Take precautions against the spreading of fire (and don't destroy other people's property), but inside the perimeter of those precautions, do whatever you wish. Dance and jump in front of the fire, blow on the ashes, and observe that something precious disappear. Is there any regret left? Burn it too!
Thank Mehrunes Dagon for the fire within.
MEPHALA – The Prince of Human Relationships and Systems
The web of Mephala encompasses a lot of things, and murder and sex, Thanatos and Eros, as some of the most visceral and fundamental ways humans interact with each other, are only two pieces of it.
Mephala understands that every human is a spider in the center of their own web, the king of their own system, with obligations, likes, dislikes, love, hate, mutual projects, linking them to others as thin little strands, easily swayed, manipulated, broken, reforged.
Mephala's secret and cruel smile hides within the secret of perception : everyone is a hero in their own narrative, everyone's both a spider and a fly in someone else's web. The center cannot hold because there is no universal center : only local centers visible from a certain point of view.
Compared to their brothers and sisters such as Hircine or Mehrunes Dagon, Mephala's sphere is highly sophisticated and far away from what could be called “nature”, the pinnacle of what makes humans human, and structuralist in nature. Her radical involvment with the Dunmer, as well as her revered place in Khajiiti tradition, is a marker of two complicated cultures, cognizant of both the constructive and the destructive sides of relationships.
In the Spider Skein, no one and nothing exists in a vacuum, and one can experience the thrill of being a little part of a bigger whole, and never feeling lonely again.
Suggestion of a worship practice : practice radical decentering from your own web and your own experience. First, draw a representation of your own web : what people, activities, values, places, societal structures you're a part of, and how they're connected around you. Then, chose someone you know and try to draw their web, the one they're in the middle of. How are they connected to parts of your web, by which strands?
Thank Mephala for the complexity of the web.
MERIDIA – The Prince of Pride and Conformity
Meridia's complicate origin story often places her closer to an Aedric entity than a Daedric one, and it is also reflected in her characteristics.
Meridia values order and hierarchies over the essence of pure oblivion chaos, which puts her at odds with most of her royal colleagues. She likes knights in shining armor, life triumphing over death and everything being in its place ... as long as it's on her terms.
Free-will is especially frowned upon in the ranks of her worshippers, and she's unlikely to congratulate a servant who's found a particularly unorthodox solution to a problem, instead of following her command. And her commands are never wrong … or so she thinks.
But it is in the metaphor of light, so beloved by Meridia, that lies the ambiguity and the Daedric seed of her being : for if the light is one, binary, blinding and pure, it can be broken and reassembled into a rainbow, letting spill a plethora of opinions, perspectives and realities. Deep down, Meridia knows this, and the Colored Rooms, with refracted light everywhere, are a proof of the multifaceted truth that she, in her pride, tries to assemble and pull together into a single light strand once more.
Thus, it can be said that Meridia lies in the struggle between conformity and subjectivity, the very light used to attract followers to her eventually becoming her undoing, once the rainbow is revealed.
Suggestion of a worship practice : create a ritual destined to purify yourself of an excess of thoughts. It can be through meditation, physical exercice ... really, through any activity that pulls the plug in your mind, leaving only concentration and pure being. Practice it when you're feeling too full of yourself, and when that hurts.
Thank Meridia for the bliss of non-thought.
MOLAG BAL – The Prince of Domination and Violence
Molag Bal is the force in us that wants to dominate, enslave and have control over others. It's the little voice whispering that, surely, we're innately better than others and it's only natural that they bend to our will.
It is on the terrain of brutal violence (the stronger dominating the more vulnerable) that we see Bal's influence around us every day. Saying that it's an aspect of human societies that we're uncomfortable with would be an understatement, and yet, Bal is one of the cornerstones upon which our house is constructed ... and it is a troubled house.
However, the esoteric teachings of Vivec give us a clue into the ways in which we can harness this destructive force in our own self development, in confronting our own will to power and aknowledging the ways it can influence our character and actions, instead of denying its existence.
In that way, Molag Bal can be a catalyst for change, as a challenge to overcome, as a testing force, just as he was considered to be in Morrowind in the times of the Tribunal.
Suggestion of a worship practice : Experience the other part of the domination coin : the thrill of voluntary submission. You could, for instance [CENSORED].
Thank Molag Bal for lessons learned through suffering.
NAMIRA – The Prince of Death and Disgust
Everything secretly longs to dissolve, to degrade, to decay, to go back to a simple cell devoid of thoughts, consciousness and purpose. Don't you wanna be pure?
Namira contains all the dichotomies carried in the concepts of cleanliness/dirtyness, purity/impurity, existence/void, disease/health. She takes advantage of the human fascination with the things they, individually or societally, find disgusting. Even took a peak at the remains of a car crash on the side of the road? Don't look too closely, or you might just see the cloaked shadow of Namira hovering over it. Ever researched some of the most deadly or disgusting diseases of the body? It was the hand of Namira on your shoulder that guided you to that knowledge.
The ultimate expression of the concept of dissolution or decay is found in death, that great unknown where the Reachmen hope, and other races fear, to find Namira.
Namira is the constant companion of every profession that has to deal with things that evoke disgust in most people : doctors, emergency workers, cleaners of all sorts, epidemiologists, funerary workers, journalists covering war, etc. Can she ever become a reassuring presence, a Spirit Queen more than a Void Mother? The answer remains in those corners of our psyches where disgusting things lie, whether they're linked to the twisting of trauma, to instinct, or to our own repulsion for things that we simply don't understand.
Suggestion of a worship practice : confront one of the things that disgust you, whether from close up or from afar, and strive to understand why it is so. Could this thing be, if not beautiful from another point of view, then at least necessary for something or someone, or a valuable cog in some system?
Thank Namira for the eternal rest.
NOCTURNAL – The Prince of Obscurity and Mysteries
Everything shadowy and unknown, everything that is hidden is spiritually a part of Evergloam. To the contrary of Mephala, who deals in secrets, things that can be revealed, Nocturnal deals in mysteries, things that can't be completely revealed without losing their essence and becoming something else than a mystery.
In that sense, one can understand why Nocturnal is revered as one of the oldest of the Daedra. From the beginning of time, some things were unexplained and remain at least partially so. Depending on one's degree of devotion to obscure mysteries, Nocturnal can be said to held sway over Love, Consciousness, Death, or Free Will, things that can't be adequately explained with our limited understanding of the world. To others, whose minds are less mystery-inclined, Nocturnal is a simpler diety, ruling over darkness and shadows, a useful and lucrative patron for people who wish to remain out of the limelight for whatever reason.
Nocturnal is both the mystery and the key to it, but since one is necessary to access the other, it gives birth to a paradox.
In any case, whose who worship Nocturnal are known to be prone to bouts of melancholy prompted by everything they will never discover, and sometimes develop bird-like features.
Suggestion of a worship practice : for three consecutive days, reverse the day/night cycle : live through the night and sleep through the day. During the night, go outside, or open your window, and observe the world around you, taking in whatever thoughts and revelations come to you in that moment.
Thank Nocturnal for hiding the key.
PERYITE – The Prince of Cleaning and Administration
Peryite is the lord of the thankless task, of the laborious separation of the wheat from the chaff, of the sick from the healthy. He does what others consider beneath them.
Peryite is also associated with balance, order and the little cogs that grind every second of every day, without being told to. Some, as the Reachmen, consider him necessary in spite of his association with terrible diseases. (Other worlds have known the touch of Peryite lately, but we do not speak of it.)
The Pits go on endlessly, because the tasks are never over. There is always more to do, more to accomplish, and if there isn't, well then, you can start doing the tasks of tomorrow, so you can better optimize your schedule and have more time to do your tasks of after-tomorrow, thank you very much.
In that sense, Peryite is a depressingly modern Prince. Even his demeanour, famously, is calm collected : why bother with revolt when there's work to do?
Is there life and beauty to be found in the accomplishment of a thankless everyday task? Maybe. While we're looking for it, every person that has to endure day after day of a bullshit job, every parent who has to repeat certain actions incessantly so their child can live safe and free, every bus driver making their rounds day after day, they all have a little office space in their heads where, on a corner of a table, there is a tiny green altar to Peryite.
Suggestion of a worship practice : instead of rushing through a mind-numbing task such as cleaning, or reading and aswering work emails, try to find meaning or purpose in it. Feel the eternity in the endless repetitions of that action happening again and again, stretching through the Pits, and how immortal that makes you feel.
Thank Peryite for always giving you something to do.
SANGUINE – The Prince of Freedom and Senses
There is a type of freedom to be found in following one's immediate desires without thought or planning. As a wise man once said : “give yourself over to absolute pleasure!
There is freedom of the eyes in looking for whatever you want. There is freedom of the ears in listening to whatever speaks to you. There is freedom of the nose in smelling one's destiny. There is freedom of the mouth in letting in whatever wants in. And, lastly, there is freedom of touch in caressing the shapes of the world.
Some might object that being subjected to one's sensual desires is the opposite of freedom : it is slavery. Sanguine certainly wouldn't agree, and would tell you that freedom is not in a choice made after weighty pondering, but a series of micro-choices made for you by your senses, who know best.
Sanguine has a better reputation among mortals that most, because as human beings, we're eternally blind to the ultimate nature of reality, and, most philosophers would agree, have no access to the “real” world, but only to a version recreated for us by our brains out of the inputs of our senses. There's no getting out of it. And so it pleases us to think that those senses do not mislead us too much, and that there is some wisdom and truth to be found in them.
Sanguine doesn't care about the ultimate nature of reality anyway, and prefers playing with the only one we know. His association with blood is perhaps a metaphor for the lifeforce, which he embodies in the flesh, scoffing at Meridia's thesis about the lifeforce being of a spiritual nature (and throwing tomatoes at her lectures, no doubt).
As long as there is that which is, Sanguine's laugh can be heard in the eternal now.
Suggestion of a worship practice : offer yourself a five day long education of the senses. Look at something pleasant, listen to something pleasant, smell and taste something pleasant, and, lastly, touch something pleasant. Know that it may very well be possible that nothing else exists, or at least, that nothing isn't as real as those feelings.
Thank Sanguine for the song of the blood.
SHEOGORATH : The Prince of Human Psychology and Creativity
What some call madness is just exagerated and more rarely expressed forms of general human cognition. As the protagonist of one tale once said, “Sheogorath has already won, because he's already inside all of us”.
Sheogorath would probably agree with Foucault's analysis of madness as something constructed, deconstructed and reconstructed through the ages to suit society's whims and fears. (Well, he would agree if he cared at all). In fact, one could argue that Foucault mantled Sheogorath to better express his truth : human psychology is just a succession of thoughts, moods and representations which struggle to not fall into the Sithis-shaped hole of the world, and only gain a semblance of legitimacy from being considered as legitimate by a sufficient number of people.
After all, the other coin of madness is creativity, and seeing the world askew is the only real and authentic way to bring something new into it. If Azura is the rim to all holes, that transitory and liminal moment, the glimpse of what might be, Sheogorath is the plunge to the other side, for good or for ill. Where Azura is in some sense the patron of the Arts, that refined and humanized union of talent and perserverance, Sheogorath is the patron of something purer : the creative instinct unburdened by shape or action, the pure will, which can turn to genius or incomprehensible rubbish, or something in between.
Creativity is also more ephemeral than the capital A “Art”. It is the witty turn of phrase said to a friend that's gonna vanish into the air and be forgotten in five minutes time, it's that particular view of the trees seen through the rain seen by that particular human eye – an artpiece for only one mind -, it's the unexpected solution to an everyday problem found when looking at it in a new way.
The creative freedom of Sheogorath rejects the notion that there could be two separate categories : people, and “Artists”. We all produce small pieces of art every day. But is it “Art” to cover a whole village in cheese? Well, we can argue about “Art” all day, but it is undeniably an expression of creativity.
The laugh of Sheogorath can be heard in both the mad and the artistic, and we're all both of those things.
Suggestion of a worship practice : identify a problem, either big or small, that you're currently facing, and come up with seven different ways to resolve it, to see it differently, or to make it worse. Then, represent that same problem in seven different ways : in writing, in drawing, in the form of a sung melody, in mime, as a meal, as a photo of yourself, and as a scream.
Thank Sheogorath for the divided mind.
VAERMINA – The Prince of Fear and Trauma
Have you heard about the three names of dreaming when one's awake ?
A dream can be experienced when one's awake, and it is then called a vision, a hallucination, or a work of art.
The first one suprises, for a vision is always unexpected, and that's how you will know that it is different from a thought. A vision is about being possessed.
The second one confuses, for a hallucination is always uncomprehensible, and that's how you will know that it is different from an image. A hallucination is about being lost.
The last one provokes, for a work of art is always a question, and that's how you will know that it is different from an answer. A work of art is about wandering.
Answer this, then. Where do the possessed, the lost and the wandering go? Why, to Quagmire, of course, where new things are terrors.
On one hand, visiting Quagmire teaches about fear, and fear is an emotion necessary to survival. On the other hand, too much fear or anxiety swings the pendulum the other way, hindering survival by making the one experiencing it irrationaly helpless and focused on imaginary, rather than real, dangers.
Most would argue that it is precisely Vaermina's goal, to drive mortals mad with fear so they become helpless and under her influence. But as with every Prince, their own goals don't preclude mortals from learning from the violent way they embody their sphere. Learning from fear, learning to go forth in spite of it, is probably one of the most beautiful things we can do, and in a way, Vaermina teaches courage and heroism.
Trauma – that which is seen in Vaermina's shimmering visions and that which cannnot be unseen – is a different beast, an eternal return of horror ever anew, happening right now, right this second. Trauma is characterized by the return of the same again and again, until one learns to live with it, and it is no easy task. Maybe Quagmire is the testing factory of our unconscious, and Vaermina, its harsh mistress teaching through psychological suffering, so we never forget that some things are wrong and should never happen, never again, to anyone.
Suggestion of a worship practice : go to therapy, and prepare yourself that it won't be a happy and feel-good experience. Embrace it. Therapy is not some personal development bullshit where someone is trying to make you feel good, and if it is, someone is trying to sell you something. It is waddling through Quagmire and pursuing a faint, far-away light and hoping it won't blink out of sight. But at least you're not alone.
Thank Vaermina for teaching you the fear of the dark.

Pokemon Theory: Gods, Evolution, Technology, and Humans.
Legendary and Mythical Pokémon in the Pokémon world can be compared to cryptids, kaiju, and gods, as they often embody natural elements or moral concepts. These extraordinary creatures are unique, with only one of each species (with a few exceptions). I tried putting together a connecting family tree of the Legendary Pokémon. It’s a bit messy but I tried:
https://preview.redd.it/7qadsbmxb24b1.jpg?width=1818&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50124476caff722aeefb035487ba309198d627db
Two legendary Pokémon come from outer space, in the form of the powerful Eternatus and the mutated space virus, Deoxys. And then there’s the Ultra Beasts, extradimensional pokemon from Ultra Space, a dimension connected to the Distortion World of which Giratina rules. Considered sub-legendary, in spite of there being more than one of each. Known examples include: Nihilego, Buzzwole, Pheromosa, Xurkitree, Celesteela, Kartana, Guzzlord, Poipole, Naganadel, Stakataka, Blacephalon, and the Unowns.
The 18 different Pokémon types were created based on natural and magical elements.

Examining the evolutionary processes in the Pokémon world reveals intriguing parallels to the real world. According to Pokémon lore, Mew's attempt to create the first life form resulted in the creation of Ditto, a polymorphous blob. This suggests that Pokémon life may have originated from single-celled organisms, mirroring the evolutionary history of Earth. Solosis, known as the Cell Pokémon, could be seen as one of the early Pokémon to emerge from this evolutionary path. Here’s a quick rundown of animal evolution for those who need a refresh:
https://preview.redd.it/0hymm8myb24b1.jpg?width=2100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78e26d21abedb5cd8e4a174a55a9260dc90e7e7e
The Pokémon world is notable for its inclusion of plants and fungi that exhibit animal-like sentience, indicating unique evolutionary developments within this realm. The existence of regional variants of Pokémon across different parts of the world suggests diverse adaptations to various environments. Similar to Earth, the Pokémon world has witnessed extinction events akin to those of the dinosaurs. But through human experimentation and hybridization with fossilized DNA, these species have been brought back. And some species have been revived through the enigmatic effects of paradoxical time travel.
Certain Pokémon showcase gender-specific evolutions, displaying distinct physical characteristics reminiscent of sexual dimorphism. While some Pokémon of the same species may differ in coloration based on gender, many others undergo significant transformations, evolving into entirely different species in their adult forms. Moreover, there are Pokémon that belong to single-gender species. The reproductive mechanisms of single-gender Pokémon populations can spark some questions. While hermaphroditic animals reproduce through broadcast spawning or regenerative budding, it is plausible that these Pokémon engage in parthenogenesis. This process, observed in real-life all-female species such as the whiptail lizard, involves reproduction with only female organs and the ability for eggs to hatch without fertilization, resembling cloning in nature. It is worth noting that while many of these Pokémon exhibit plant-like characteristics, their reproductive methods could be associated with pollination.
https://preview.redd.it/bav5kzczb24b1.jpg?width=1461&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3879fea03e7c6f30cc7cd50b46ff757b14e3dd5a
While the majority of Pokémon draw inspiration from real or mythical plants, fungi, and animals, a significant number derive their designs from inanimate objects, such as:
  • Rocks
  • Ice cubes
  • Robots
  • Gears
  • Bells
  • Keys
  • Sludge
  • Trash bags
  • Candles
  • Lamps
  • Balloons
  • Smog
  • Clouds
  • Statues
  • Toys
  • Swords
  • Shields
  • Buildings
  • Pokéballs
  • Food items
  • Computer programs
Many of these object-based Pokémon are created through spiritual possession by ghosts and ancient powers, or through human experimentation in laboratories or factories. As a result, they have spread throughout the world. It is worth noting that some legendary Pokémon, such as Genesect, Magearna, Type: Null, and Mewtwo, were specifically created by humans. Mewtwo, in particular, was brought into existence through genetic duplication and human-Pokémon hybridization involving Mew.
The presence of humans in the Pokémon world gives rise to intriguing questions regarding their evolutionary origins. While humans on Earth evolved from primates, there are Pokémon that exhibit remarkable humanoid traits, bridging the gap between animal and human life. It is conceivable that the first humans in this world arose through convergent evolution between these humanoid Pokémon species.

Many have often wondered what it's like inside a Pokéball. How do larger Pokémon fit into this small contraption? When a Pokéball hits a Pokémon, as long as it is not deflected, it opens, and the Pokémon is engulfed in a beam of energy. This energy causes the Pokémon to shrink and be enclosed within the ball. It's actually quite advanced technology if you think about it. But how does it really work? The ball could tap into the Pokémon's internal energy, which grants them their powers, and manipulate their size to store them. There are various types of Pokéballs with different energy concentrations, making it easier to catch tougher creatures. But what is it like for a Pokémon inside the ball? Is it cramped? Unlikely, as that would be dangerously impossible and highly unethical. However, producer Junichi Masuda confirmed that it's actually quite comfortable, almost like a luxury hotel suite. It could be hypothesized that the inside of the ball creates a virtual reality experience, artificially generated to provide the perfect environment for each species. When summoned, the Pokémon grows back to its full size from the orb.

https://i.redd.it/1wcx4ks9c24b1.gif
The Pokémon world shares striking similarities with Earth, featuring locations that resemble real-world counterparts. The first nine regions, based on locations in Japan, the USA, France, the UK, and Spain, respectively, can be geographically aligned with their real-world counterparts while possessing unique names, civilizations, and biodiversity. Viewing the Pokémon world as an alternate version of Earth is a more plausible concept than my previous theory suggesting it to be a replication created by extraterrestrial scientists, reminiscent of Marvel's High Evolutionary.

Lastly, the enigmatic nature of Cubone's story adds an intriguing layer to its existence. Cubone is said to wear the skull of its deceased mother, Marowak. Considering that there are multiple Cubone in the world, it raises the question of whether every Cubone has lost its mother. One possible explanation could be that shortly after an adult female Marowak gives birth, she tragically passes away, leaving the baby Cubone orphaned. This life cycle is reminiscent of that observed in certain species, such as octopuses. Furthermore, an all-but-confirmed theory suggests a connection between Cubone, Marowak, and Kangaskhan. It is speculated that Cubone is a slightly older baby Kangaskhan. By linking the life cycle of Kangaskhan to the previously mentioned Marowak life cycle, a plausible explanation can be constructed. However, the true nature of Cubone's origins remains a mystery.

2023.06.04 22:23 ChickenDinnerGuy I thought I'd move on if I talked to her again, but I haven't. (Crush on an old friend that blocked for nearly 2 years)

A few years ago I became interested in a girl younger than me. She was 19 and I was 30 if I recall. We were coworkers and I decided to give it a try because why not? She kindly rejected me and I respected her decision. Despite that, we became friends. I hoped to win her over but if I didn't, I would still be grateful to be friends with her. She ended up quiting the store to focus on school. It was around this time that she was becoming a bit more distant. I understood, she was busy. Shortly after, she messaged me on my birthday and said how she would like to take me out to eat. Unfortunately she didn't have a job so she asked me to wait until she started working. I said we can have dinner whenever she's free and I'd gladly pay. I just wanted to hang out with her to be honest. This same day I she told me she had a boyfriend. I did get sad but life goes on and I liked her friendship. Afterwards, she wouldn't write back the way she used to. What hurt the most was when she shopped at the store I was still working at. In 2 different occasions, she barely spoke to me. She said the minimum. She said hi, asked how I was doing, and that was it. I was also hurt when I messaged her when COVID started. I messaged to check on her but she gave me generic responses. A few months went by and she messaged me about some stuff I had let her borrow once. I replied a day later and said I'd have to check my schedule. A month later she messaged me again about the stuff. I didn't reply that time. I felt hurt. After I quit my job, i went to pick up my check and bumped into a coworker. The subject of the girl came up and I said she no longer kept in touch with me as much. My coworker's theory was that the girl's boyfriend probably told her to not talk to me. I don't know if that's true or not. Then a few months later, the girl messaged me about the stuff I let her borrow. This time I did reply and I wasn't happy. She offered to drop off my stuff but I told her she can keep it or toss it out. She said she'd still hold on to it if I changed my mind and I replied telling her "trust me, I won't" and ended up removing her from my contacts. We didn't message each other again. Since then, I kept feeling anger, hate, and sadness toward her. Not because I never dated her. But because I feel like she made me believe we were really good friends. And because I think she could have handled things differently instead of basically ignoring me. Eventually I got a new job and things were going well for me. One day I saw her from a distance inside the store I was now working at. Luckily we didn't bump into each other that day because I still felt anger and hate. A few weeks later or whatever, I saw her again. This time we both made I contact. It felt awkward for me. Neither of us said anything and we just pretended it never happened again. So many emotions came to me. Days later I realize that the way I feel isn't healthy and I wasn't okay with it. So I told myself I'd say hi next time I saw her. That day did come last year. It went better than I expected even though I was nervous. She was walking by with her mom ready to pay. I said her name and said I could help her out. We had a nice little chat and I did feel like the weight off my shoulders had been lifted. I no longer had any hate towards her. But I still feel something for her. I still like her for some reason. It doesn't make a lot of sense because my friendship with her wasn't that long. Anyways, after nearly a year later, I saw her shopping at the store again today. I normally don't work Fridays but I did this time and maybe that's why I hadn't bunked into her sooner. I was busy at work so I only managed to say hi to her. But that small interaction made my day. She looks even more beautiful than ever. And here I am today, still having a crush on her or whatever you want to call it. It took a lot of me to speak to her again. I'm not going to lie, I did hope talking to her again would spark the friendship again and she'd ask to hang out or something but it hasn't happened. I really thought doing this would let me move on without anger and hate towards her. But I only managed to get rid of the hate and anger I had for her. I still want to be a part of her life even as a friend. But it looks like it won't happen. I'm too much of a coward to ask for her number because I'm tired of getting hurt. I don't want to get hurt again. I guess I'm happy that I spoke to her again. But Im still sad I'm not her friend. Now I'm just a former coworker that she knows.

2023.06.04 21:51 Mental-One7140 Sasuke vs Naruto. Who was more important to the manga?

Originally Naruto was the protagonist of the story, but from Part 1 onwards he transitioned into a supporting protagonist. Why? Because the story quit being about him despite being the main character.
Protagonists (save supporting protagonists) share a number of characteristics, notably (1) their actions drive the plot and (2) they are emotional focus of the story. Even more so when the story is character-driven.
For people who aren’t familiar with the phrase, stories come in two flavors: character-driven and plot-driven. In short, a character-driven story is one where the focus will be more on character development than on the plot. In these stories, you are more likely to feel fully engaged with the character and become more focused on their personal journey. In a character-led story, the emphasis is on the character’s emotions and the reasons why they make the choices and decisions that they do.
How then, does this differ from a plot-driven story?
The key difference between a plot-driven story and a character-driven one is that in a character-led narrative, the focus is more on the thoughts and feelings of the protagonist and the decisions that they make. Whereas, in plot-driven narratives, the action and occurrences that unfold will be the main point of focus. When writing character-driven stories, the plot is the mechanism used to develop character, and in plot-led stories, the character is used to view and comment on the plot.
Naruto is character-driven because the focus is on characters’ inner thoughts and feelings. And Sasuke is the leading role, with characters such as Naruto and Sakura, among others (including the villains like Itachi, Orochimaru and Tobi) focusing much of their motivations around him. Furthermore, Sasuke’s actions have consequences whereas Naruto’s do not.
Sasuke vs Orochimaru? The fight sparked the Uchiha fight and sparked Kabuto’s madness.
Sasuke vs Deidara? The fight sparked Tobi’s decision to reveal himself as “da evil mastermind” of the story.
Sasuke vs Itachi? Self-explanatory. That fight was the driving force behind Sasuke’s characterization for the remainder of the series and introduced Madara and the Senjus.
Sasuke vs Killer B? Sparked the Kage Summit.
Sasuke and Itachi vs Kabuto? This fight was the driving force between Sasuke decision to join in the War and revive the Hokages. The most importante event in the entire War.
Contrast to Naruto, his actions aren’t plot significant because he spent hundreds of chapters doing squat. Even the arc where he was the “focushas Naruto being passive for the bulk of the arc. Oh, and it’s all about Sasuke because Kishimoto felt that Naruto had to understand Sasuke’s pain, which was promptly jossed in the subsequent arc. It isn’t until the War Arc when he becomes semi-important, and even then, his actions are of secondary importance as the emphasis is on Madara’s, Obito’s, and especially Sasuke’s antics.
Naruto was intended to be nobody and a loser like Rock Lee. Naruto was so much more a likeable and a better character in Part 1 . In part 2 Naruto is like the story of a baseball hero who was said to have grown up poor and disadvantaged but in reality was actually living off his wealthy parents' billion dollar inheritance and shooting up steroids and EPO the whole time.... Plus he's the reincarnation of the god of baseball.
This is just a exemple of how the child of profecy garbage who was created specifically to made Naruto relevant in the story compared to Sasuke and Uchihas, completely ruinned Naruto's character after Pein arc.
Long story short: Naruto was originally the protagonist story, but Kishimoto switched protagonists early on in Part 2 in a two-bit attempt to tell Sasuke’s POV and keep him relevant. While this wasn't entirely intentional, Kishimoto screwed up and made Naruto a supporting protagonist whereas Sasuke became the true protagonist. This is easily seen with the arcs that had lasting consequences for the manga as a whole:
Part 1:
Most of the plots in Part 1 can be considered Filler in the great scheme of the story. Lee Story, Zabuza, Hyuuga Clan and a lof Part 1 plots aren't important for Part 2. Only the Akatsuki's introduction, Orochimaru, Sasuke's departure and his clan were major events who leads to the Part 2.
Part 2:
Rescue Gaara Arc = Gaara died and was revived. Nothing changed at the end.
Sakura got information about Sasuke in her fight against Sasori.
Sai Arc = The only important event in this Arc is literally Sasuke's appearance at the end and the first Madara's mention.
Sai/Yamato are manga fillers characters. Orochimaru x 4 Tails is a terrible fight.
Immortal Arc = A literal filler arc.
Asuma never was important and his death didn't affect the plot.
But at least Naruto learned FRS.
Itachi Hunt Arc and Sasuke was finally back to the story.
Sasuke killed Orochimaru.
Orochimaru death allowed Kabuto to get his cells and become the most important villain in War arc.
Sasuke created his Team.
Sasuke fights against Deidara AND forced Tobi to reveal Himself as a Madara.
Sasuke fought against Itachi and this fight showed the lore ot Mangekyo Sharingan.
Tobi revealed the entire truth about Senju x Uchihas and the Uchiha's Massacre to Sasuke.
More informations about Madara
Sasuke entered in the Akatsuki and fought Bee and this event was fundamental to create the Kage Summit arc.
Pein Arc = Jiraiya died and that event was used only to Naruto undertand Sasuke’s desire for revange.
Nagato killed everyone and destroyed the Village.
But revived everyone. So this arc didn't led any major impact for the future. Nagato's rinnegan isn't even his.
Rinnegan isn't a pein ability but the ultimate Sharingan/Uchiha evolution who Sasuke/Madara will use in the future. Pein was just a tool for another more powerfull Uchiha villains like Madara.
Danzou took advantage of the situation and becomed the big bad of the next arc with Sasuke centric.
Kage Summit Arc =
Another Sasuke centric arc that moved the plot.
Tobi explained more about Senju and Uchihas
Sasuke fought Kages.
Tobi used the situation to declare the War.
Sasuke actions drove the entire Sakura and Naruto drama in this arc.
Sasuke fought Danzou and the notion of Hashirama' cells, izanagi etc.
Team 7 reunion again.
War Arc.
The entire War Arc are simply filler and non important fights.
When Edo Madara appears the story are finally back to the main plot.
Madara fought the Kages.
Naruto fought the Masked Man.
Sasuke returns and join Itachi to stop Edo Tensei.
Obito/Madara. Two Uchihas are the main responsibles for the manga events and the War.
Sasuke after the fight against Kabuto resolved to revive Orochimaru, the Hokages and finally joinned the War to fight against the main villains Obito, Madara and Kaguya until his destined final clash against Naruto.
Chapter 699, the last chapter of Part 2 is entire dedicated to Sasuke and his POV about the World and his relationships with Sakura and Naruto.
Naruto Gaiden: The entire Volume is About Sasuke's daughter: Sarada and a new villain who wants to kill Sasuke because Itachi.
Boruto: Spin Off who isn't written or drawn by Kishimoto. So isn't important.

2023.06.04 21:33 critezreal Mortsafe is a trap (theory)

As of chapter 24, it's shown that Fabricant 100 has no intentions of killing Fabricant 1 (who can probably create new fabricants).
Without Fabricant 100 to kill Fabricant 1, Ashibi is powerless. His healing spark has very weak combat ability on its own. Mortsafe either doesn't have the power to kill all the fabricants, or doesn't want to kill all the fabricants (which was clearly stated). So without Fabricant 100 nor Mortsafe helping him, Ashibi kind of cannot kill all the fabricants including number 1 who creates more fabricants.
When Luka (in chpt. 5-7) said that they needed the person that was killing fabricants to stop killing the fabricants, it wasn't because fabricants would be able to live with humans. It was because they held value to Mortsafe specifically. They were using no. 99's core for their own personal gain and power. Without fabricants they can't train new 'heroes'. Without fabricants, there is no villain to fight. (Spoiler for another manga: kind of like what I've heard of Ranger Reject. They need someone to play the villain, so that the "heroes" can profit).
There's really no clear way for Ashibi to clean out the fabricants. At best he could use his regenerative powers to trade his body parts to Fabricants, in order to enlist their powers. Cause he can give them an arm, and then his arm will just regrow itself.
(Edit: after reading another theory (https://www.reddit.com/fabricant100/comments/13plsu1/predictions_by_me/), perhaps fabricant 99 shared his core with Mortsafe so that humans could fight back against fabricants, under the condition that they looked for a solution that didn't involve wiping out the fabricants. And perhaps Ashibi ends up sharing his body with the fabricants, so that they can upgrade their bodies without killing humans.)

2023.06.04 21:21 Prophet_Rykar [WP] Humanity's Spirit

In the late 23rd century, the skies darkened with the arrival of the Nokrians. A reptilian race known throughout the galaxies as conquerors, destroyers of civilizations, and relentless expansionists. The first contact had a single, chilling message. Surrender or be eradicated. Humanity spread across Earth, Mars, the belt, and the solar system's farthest reaches bristled at the ultimatum. A united response was sent back. "We are the children of the Earth. We do not surrender!" And so the war for Earth began. The Nokrians had underestimated humanity, viewing them as a young race scattered, technologically inferior. The aliens had crushed such civilizations before. But humankind was different. Beneath the diverse flags, languages, and planets, the fire of unity roared. Human technology, while less advanced, was innovative.
Adaptive tactics and strategies changed quickly and unpredictably. The first defining battle took place in the inner belt of Jupiter. Earth's combined fleet clashed with the Nokrian Armada. The alien cruisers dwarfed Earth's vessels, and their plasma weapons tore through our hulls. The Nokrians watched as dozens of human ships turned to stardust, confident in their victory. But humanity had a secret weapon. Its spirit. The spirit dared to dream, innovate, and resist against all odds. And amid that bloody battle, it shone brightly. Following a hasty, desperate plan, the remaining human fleet utilized Jupiter's powerful magnetic field to create a slingshot effect, hurtling smaller ships with tremendous speed toward the Nokrian Armada. The Nokrian Shields, designed to absorb direct High energy attacks, could not adapt to the bombardment of these human missiles. The loss they faced was unexpected and disheartening. The mighty alien Armada was forced to retreat, leaving the humans to celebrate their first victory. That day, the message of humanity echoed across the solar system. "We do not surrender."
On the Nokrian's homeworld, Supreme Warlord K'rul watched in disbelief as reports streamed in. "So you're telling me we lost our greatest superweapon because humans rammed a flagship into it?" The room fell into an uneasy silence. Humans were meant to be weak and insignificant. Yet they had just dealt the Nokrians a heavy blow. Despite this unexpected setback, the Nokrians remained disdainful of humanity. They saw this victory as a fluke, a lucky shot. Commander Xok'rath received an order from the Nokrian High Command as the war entered its second year. An all-out assault on Earth aimed to crush human resistance once and for all. Closing his eyes, he remembered a phrase from an ancient human text. "The calm before the storm." The storm was indeed coming, but who would prevail in its wake was a story yet to be told. With a final look at Earth, he ordered his Armada to advance, leaving the future of humanity and nutrients hanging in the balance. A cliff on the horizon of a story yet to unfold.
Operation Thunderbolt. "I must admit humans come up with interesting names," Commander Xok'rath muttered. Staring at the holographic plans of an earth-based counter-strike against his Armada. He found it difficult to understand how a young and fragile race could put up such a fight. His second in command, Virox, watched the hologram with narrowed eyes. "Commander, have you noticed? These humans fight differently compared to the other races we've conquered. They're more... reckless." "Yes," Xok'rath replied, a hint of curiosity in his voice. "They seem to have a remarkable capacity for taking risks and performing under extreme stress. There's a term they use" "Adrenaline." Virox tilted his head. "Adrenaline?" "Yes," Xok'rath said. Gesturing at a display, an image of a human anatomy diagram appeared, highlighting the adrenal glands. "It's a hormone triggered by stress or danger significantly enhancing their physical abilities. It allows them to perform feats that seem impossible." "Like flying their ships directly into our Armada," Virox murmured, understanding dawning in his eyes. "Yes," Xok'rath nodded. "Like that." Their discussion was interrupted by the ship's automated alarm. Operation Thunderbolt had begun.
Reports started pouring in, and Earth's smaller but highly maneuverable attack force began strafing runs on the Nokrian fleet. From Earth's surface, missiles arced, their brilliant trails illuminating the dark void. Nokrian shield generators sparked and faltered under the sheer onslaught. The human ships danced among the Nokrian Armada. "Incoming! Brace for impact!" Xok'rath's command echoed through the command ship as one of the earth missiles found its target. The ship shook violently, the powerful shield failling under the human's relentless bombardment. "Damage report!" Xok'rath demanded, clutching onto the armrest of his command chair. His scales bristled with tension. "Shields down to 17%; we have hull breaches in sectors 7, 9, and 12." A junior officer reported, panic evident in his usually steady voice. "Initiate evasive maneuvers and get those shields back online!" Zok'rath ordered, his mind racing. No enemy had ever breached a Nokrian command ship's shield. Yet, here were the humans achieving the impossible again.
Meanwhile, on Earth, General Maya Serrano watched as Operation Thunderbolt unfolded. Despite the high stakes, she couldn't suppress a small smile. They were showing these arrogant aliens the true might of humanity. Serrano was a seasoned veteran, having served in the Solar Defence Force for three decades. She'd fought against pirates and led exploratory missions into unknown regions of space, and now she was helping to defend humanity against an alien invasion. Her strategic mind was behind Operation Thunderbolt, a daring high-risk counteroffensive designed to exploit the Nokrians' overconfidence. Back on the Nokrian command ship, the situation was dire. The shields were failing. Casualties were mounting, and to Xok'rath's disbelief, the human force showed no signs of relenting. Instead, their attacks became fiercer, their maneuvers more daring. Suddenly an urgent message flashed on the command screen. It was from the Nokrian Supreme Warlord K'rul himself. His statement was brief and to the point. "Fall back to high orbit," "Regroup," "We will not be defeated." Xok'rath stared at the message, his mind swirling with questions. "Fallback?" "Regroup?" These were terms not often used in Nokrian warfare. He looked back at the holographic display of Earth, its blue and green hues seeming to pulse defiantly. "Commander, your orders?" Virox asked, his eyes reflecting the unease rippling through the command ship. Xok'rath took a deep breath. A newfound respect for humanity hardened his resolve. "We follow the warlord's orders, full retreat to high orbit." "But make no mistake, Virox, this is far from over. We've awoken a giant, and we must brace for its wrath," said Xok'rath. As the Nokrian Armada began retreating, the humans watched from their homeworld, ships, and colonies. They had won this round. Their defiance, unity, and sheer audacity had pushed back the invaders. If only for a while... But they knew this was not the end; the war was far from over. The Nokrians would return more determined, more desperate. Humanity would have to be ready, for they were the children of Earth, and they would not surrender.
The lights flickered in the makeshift lab as a beacon of hope emerged. On a remote outpost on Titan, Doctor Elena Petrova, humanity's leading quantum physicist, made a breakthrough. A radical new technology project, Quantum Lattice, is an adaptive energy shield that could neutralize the Nokrian's plasma weapons. News of the breakthrough spread like wildfire, the anticipation mixed with caution; after all, the security was untested in actual combat. They needed to be more unified on the other side of the war line. In the Nokrian High Command, disagreement festered; some commanders like Xok'rath argued for a more cautious approach acknowledging the human's unpredictability. Others, like the fiery Z'tran, scorned such caution advocating for overwhelming direct force. Back on Earth, another development was taking shape. Lieutenant Isamu Takashi, one of the few survivors of the battle of Jupiter, was chosen for a mission most deemed suicidal. Utilizing his combat experience, survival skills, and the new adaptive camouflage suit. Isamu was to infiltrate the Nokrian mothership, gather intelligence, and, if possible, sabotage their operations. Leaving behind a tearful goodbye to his family. Isamu steeled himself for the task ahead. He was not just a soldier but a symbol of human determination.
Meanwhile, Project Quantum Lattice was fast-tracked for field deployment. The prototype was to be installed on the USS Vengeance, a newly commissioned cruiser. Captain Amina N'dour, an experienced and unyielding officer, was given the helm. Her task was twofold: test the shield in battle and buy enough time for Isamu to complete his mission. The USS Vengeance embarked on its maiden voyage equipped with untested technology.
The moral of the human forces was... Palpable. On the Nokrian side, tension mounted as descent grew. The war was about to take an unexpected turn. Onboard the Nokrian mothership, Commander Xok'rath studied the report of increased activity among the human forces. A chill ran down his spine; he felt the winds of change, a shiver of uncertainty. He turned to his Second-in-Command, Virox. "Prepare the fleet for an imminent attack and enhance security on our ship. I have a feeling... the humans are up to something." And thus, the stage was set the pieces were moving. As the USS Vengeance ventured into the dark abyss, Isamu descended onto the alien ship in his stealth shuttle. The entire solar system held its breath. Unbeknownst to them, they were on the brink of a new chapter in the war for Earth. A turning point was on the horizon, and with it, the tides of war were about to change.
Deep within the heart of the Nokrian mothership. Lieutenant Isamu Takashi navigated the labyrinthine corridors, and the calm hum of alien technology resonated in the walls. Contrasting starkly with the pounding heartbeat echoing in his ears. Invisible under the cloak of the adaptive camouflage suit, he slipped past patrols, moving like a phantom. His objective was clear, gather intel on the Nokrian's capabilities, identify weaknesses, and, if possible, sow chaos within their ranks. But first, he had to reach the core command center.
Meanwhile, far from the silent tension of the alien vessel, the USS Vengeance found itself in the throes of battle. The Nokrian vanguard had descended upon them like a swarm of metallic hornets, but humanity had its own sting. "Activate the Quantum Lattice!" Captain Amina N'dour ordered. A shimmering energy net bloomed around the ship absorbing the volley of plasma beams from the Nokrian fighters. The cruiser seemed to glow in a lattice of light before the glow subsided, leaving the USS Vengeance unscathed. In the silence that followed, a cheer erupted on the bridge; The Quantum Lattice worked. Then, on the Nokrian mothership, Z'tran, a high-ranking commander known for his aggression, stormed into the war room.
Reports of the failed attack on the human ship had just arrived. Z'tran blamed Xok'rath for the failures, his words slicing through the tense air. "Your caution has cost us, Xok'rath. These humans... they are not as weak as you believed." A heated argument ensued, voices echoing through the chamber. Z'tran's accusations held weight among those frustrated with the human resistance. The room split, tension escalating until Z'tran, by force of numbers, wrestled control of the Armada. His first order was a resonating call for the destruction of the Earth. During the power struggle, Isamu found himself at the heart of the command center. He had gathered precious intel, learning about Z'tran's intended all-out assault. Unfortunately, he transmitted the information to Earth before an alarm blared around him. His cover was blown, and his heart pounded in his chest as he found himself surrounded and trapped in the center of the enemy hub. His eyes darted, calculating escape routes, but it was too late. The Nokrians closed in; their alien faces were grim, and weapons were drawn. Back on Earth, as the data from Isamu started streaming in, they also received his final message. "I've been compromised; proceed without me..." The transmission cut out abruptly, leaving a haunting silence in the command center with the enemy closing in. Isamu steeled himself; he was cornered, outgunned. His chances looked grim, but he was a symbol of humanity, and he was not going down without a fight. And thus, the climax of the War for Earth began with a lone spy's fate and humanity's future hanging in the balance.
The alien corridors were bathed in a harsh red light, the alarm blaring relentlessly. Lieutenant Isamu Takashi, cornered and outnumbered, faced the approaching Nokrians with a defiant glare. He knew he wouldn't walk away from this fight. His hand found the tiny remote in his pocket. A last resort. A beacon to call down hellfire upon his position. He pressed the button. An explosive blaze erupted from Isamu's location, cascading through the Nokrian mothership. Isamu's final act, a daring sacrifice, destabilized a significant part of the alien Armada. It was a tragic but necessary act that the human fleet used to their advantage. On Earth, his sacrifice echoed through the ranks. Isamu's bravery was a catalyst, igniting a resolve deeper than any battle plan. As Z'tran's all-out assault descended upon Earth, the planet's defenses were pushed to their limit. But inspired by Isamu, the humans held their ground. The Quantum Lattice technology fends off the relentless onslaught. "Remember Isamu!" Became a rallying cry that surged through the human ranks. Each ship fought with a tenacity that was a testament to their fallen comrade. The Nokrian Armada, vast, began to falter before the stubborn human resistance. And then Earth's forces unleashed their trump card. Within the bowels of these human ships, engineers and scientists worked relentlessly. Exploiting the data gathered by Isamu. They discovered a critical flaw in the Nokrian shield system. A resonant frequency that could disrupt their energy matrix. Timing their attacks to the millisecond, they fired burst after burst. At this frequency, the Nokrian Shields flickered and, with a final, resounding blast, failed. The Armada was left exposed and vulnerable. Humanity pushed, and the Nokrian forces began to crumble. The victory was not without cost. Wreckage of both Human and Nokrian ships littered the battlefield. The Earth, though protected, was scarred by the relentless bombardment. But amidst the destruction, humanity stood tall. They had faced annihilation and emerged victorious. Both races were left to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of the war. On Earth, a Monument was erected in Isamu's memory, a testament to the spirit of humanity. In the Nokrian home world, Z'tran's recklessness was held responsible for their defeat, leading to a shift in power. As the dust settled, the galaxy watched in awe. A species they had considered insignificant had bested the most fearsome conquerors known. Their story was one of resilience, bravery, and unity. However, with the end of the war came new challenges. The knowledge of humanity's existence had reached far corners of the galaxy. Allies and enemies alike turned their attention to the small blue planet and its colonies, intrigued and wary. But Earth stood ready. The war for Earth had changed, unified, and strengthened them. No matter what the future holds, one thing is sure. Humanity would face it head-on, as they always had. Because they are the children of Earth! And they do not surrender!

2023.06.04 21:14 RealisticPast7297 Riding Mower Oil Plug Crack

Riding Mower Oil Plug Crack
I hate myself. Long story short I was changing the oil on my Troy Bilt riding mower with a B&S E1550 motor… the position where they have the drain plug is ridiculous. Anyways I was able to get it out, drain the old oil, and then I guess when I tightened the drain plug back I did it too tight and ended up cracking the part where it threads into. Leaked all of the oil out.
So I tried to clean it, sand it, and use JB Weld to see if that’d be a temporary fix but I’m not even sure if that’s the only part that is cracked (from what I can see it is but everything is jammed pack in this motor so hard to tell). There’s still a little oil draining so I went back and dried it up and reapplied some JB. Do you all think I’ve screwed myself and should just get that part replaced? Not many small motor repair shops in the area. And not sure what that would even cost. Replace the oil sump? Not sure. Gonna see how this JB cures after 24hrs. I appreciate any advice!

2023.06.04 20:37 Street_Midget Clock spring replacement require programming?

Hi, I had to replace my airbag clock spring. New unit is identical, same wires, etc. I installed it correctly, everything plugged in well and in right places. Has same part number on it. But it doesn’t work. Airbag light on, horn doesn’t work. Does it require any kind of programming at the dealer? Or is the part perhaps defective?

2023.06.04 20:22 endersgame69 Adopted By Humans VII C15

So, weeks passed us by, Michael pestered his mother and father often for genetic modification, but on this, there was no budging them. I will relay a little bit of how it went, and from there, just picture it over a period of weeks.
“We are not moving onto a military base just so that you can turn into the Extremely-Credible Hulk.” William emphasized while he was sitting at his work desk, he had a virtual reality set on and though I couldn’t see exactly what he was doing, it wasn’t hard to work out based on the way his hands moved.
He was doing some virtual typing and swiping through the AI design elements of the starbase to select adaptive modifications based on something Bonny Red sent to him.
What she sent, I don’t know. I just told him to do as he thought best.
I was at the coffee table in the kitchen watching Michael argue with his father.
“But da-a-a-ad, I really, really want it!” He insisted.
“And I really…really don’t want to move. It’s military base testing only, Michael. You’ll be put in separate classes from all your friends, not just for the offline portion, but for the online ones too.” Rebecca chimed in from the next room. Her own remote connection in the living room let her hear everything that was going on, and she was quick to back up her husband.
Michael was sullen, frustrated, and I thought I understood it. But the notion of leaving his friends behind wasn’t a happy one. While on the Red Spark he’d made friends with a number of children his age. From my perspective as a dlamisa, they were vital connections that should not be severed lightly, one never knew when a favor would be needed. Even if he lacked the innate genius of his elder sister, if my observations were correct, he was a talented boy with an adaptable mind and could go far in life with the right help.
Still, I didn’t say anything.
The fact that such modified children were separated from others wasn’t as bad as it sounds. The concern was simply that because their strength was growing much faster, that they might not know innately how to control it and therefore injure someone else, perhaps severely.
Ergo, temporary separation, observation, and then gradual reintegration into the more normal offline socialization done from their online schools.
“I know but… but I really want it. And I won’t be away from my friends forever… it’s just a year, and we can stay in touch in other ways…”
So, round and round they went, for weeks.
And if I may admit my foibles without shame, I, like the others, was convinced that it was just because he lost that final match.
It wasn’t until eight weeks later that Rebecca finally snapped, “We’re not going to move just so you can be better at fighting!”
“That’s not why I want it!” Michael shouted… his face was flushed red and his lower lip trembled… Michael did not shout, he was not an angry boy…
“So why then?” William asked, leaving his desk and coming to where his growing boy stood shaking with his fists clenched, he crouched down and asked at eye level with his son, “Tell us, why really?”
“So I don’t ever have to run away again! Like we did when we lived with the Aunt Bonny!” Michael shouted.
I never really thought about it at the time, it just seemed like Michael had been enjoying his stay on the Red Spark. But now, having heard him say that?
The house was quiet. Very quiet.
“Michael, those times are over…” William squeezed his son’s shoulder and Rebecca removed her headset to look their way.
“Your father is right, those people are gone and they’re never coming back. Everything is fine. Trust us.” She said gently, I could see she wanted to rise, to move, but in this it seemed Michael favored his father, so she waited, and let her husband speak.
“It is, I promise. There’s nothing to worry about and everybody is going to work hard to make sure things stay that way, OK? Do you trust us?” William asked and held his son’s gaze with his own.
There could be entire studies done on this exact scene, and nothing more. Rebecca’s deferral to her husband drew much commentary, and I think it comes down to natural divide that seems to occur between parents and children.
It is not simply that sometimes one child is ‘favored’ over the other by a parent. It is that children see their parents in different ways. William was never a large man, he was fit for his age, but hardly a warrior specimen despite his military past.
But fathers in human society serve as the models of young men more often than not, and dealing with danger is something frequently romanticized as a ‘male’ ideal. The desire to be a hero and save the day is little buried in them, and as the larger of the pair, it was natural that he would be seen as a source of greater security.
This sometimes seems at odds with the male predisposition for danger tolerance. It is similarly at odds with Rebecca’s own personality, which ‘tends’ toward being very vocal and opinionated. I maintain that her silence was due to a recognition that Michael was starting to identify more with his father, which is a common part of the maturing process for small humans, and she chose not to interfere with that development.
Of Michael, I could say that he was… very much like his sister. Fauve had no interest in genetic augmentation as he did, but if you consider the course of her career as it was currently progressing, it was just war and aggression by other means. She wanted to crush the xenophobes utterly, even more than they already were, which was saying something, since most ended up dead in the Silent Civil War.
Michael’s influences were not media experts like Teresa and Percival. His influences were military. Byron, Boatswain, Genghis, Iskandar, and it was showing.
What I also understood was this… that even though a child might not be of an age to understand the full nature of circumstances, that does not make them fully ignorant. Michael’s formative years of childhood were born out of an attempt on his very life. I doubt very much Fauve ever showed him her video work…
But by now? At this age? He was forming vast reasoning capabilities and he could reflect on memories that were still there, retroactively coming to conclusions and learning from those around him. Not to mention he was surely able to pick up on the tension in the family.
I concluded one thing… if they wouldn’t let him get a genetic modification now, he would just get one later. I think, for better or for worse, the course of his life was now set, and there was one clear direction for it to go.
“I still want it,” He said, and crossed his arms in front of his chest.
His parents sighed together.
William’s head slumped and his arm relaxed though his hand did not let go of Michael’s shoulder.
“We can’t just ‘move’. The only people who get these things are those who go into space or who live on a military base, and we don’t have either. When you’re older, if you insist, after the human trials are done…” William looked over his shoulder toward his wife, she gave a subtle nod in his direction.
“We can revisit this and see about it.” William finished, “If you feel that strongly about it.”
Michael seemed to sense that he was not going to get any farther with them, and so he nodded. “OK, dad, mom.”
There were a few hugs traded after that, not as much as when he was smaller, as he was starting to grow up, little by little, and the same need for physical touch wouldn’t exist, at least not in the same way or same frequency.
But when he grew up, I wondered, would I see him as the adult? Or the boy?
I couldn’t know the answer to that question, but whatever the answer, I was sure I’d look back on days like this one, quite fondly.

Let us begin with the diagram itself – the faulty schematics of the ruined machine. As its essence, it is a circumscribed triangle with an X/Y axis that has curious labels. The X axis has two sets of labels: a musical note and an emotion (the emotion is denoted by square brackets). The Y axis has only emotion labels.
Consider for a moment the space between the notes F# and A# on a keyboard. When examining a single octave, there’s not much between them, and G# is in the center. I think this interpretation is probably not one we’re meant to make, and I think the next three interpretations will explain why.
If we instead consider F# and A# across two octaves, we get something a bit more interesting: a range of notes large enough for some chords and/or melodies, and the note D right in the middle. Put a pin in that.

A 44-key keyboard, for reference
Considering this space between three octaves leads to yet a larger range of notes with the note G# in the middle once again. I still think this is a red herring, because of something we’ve been ignoring: the scale in the bottom right of the diagram.
This scale, when superimposed on the circle, approximately matches the distance between the edge of the circle and its center. The numbers on the scale (0, 3, 5, 12, 15, 18), also appear to be musical intervals. So what happens if, across four octaves, we count 18 semitones to the right from a low F# and 18 semitones to the left from a high A#? What we end up with are two ranges: F#2 to C4 and E4 to A#5. Directly between these two ranges is middle D, or D4, or 293.665 hertz.
Okay, that gives us a plausible explanation of the X axis. How about the Y axis? The lesser labeling on this axis gives us less to go on, but we are given one additional clue on the far left side of the page: two vertical ranges representing TAPE HISS and TAPE RUMBLE. These align with the HI and LO markings on the Y axis line, indicating that higher frequencies at the center of the X axis get closer to fear whereas low frequencies get closer to hope. Observe that no note information is present in tape hiss or tape rumble, indicating that perhaps the note doesn’t change on the Y axis, but rather the expression of that note? Perhaps fear is a D6 and hope is a D2?

Errata

Why is LO MID to the right and HI MID to the left? I would expect the opposite. This might imply that the X axis is flipped horizontally, but changing the range to be A#2 to F#5 results in the two ranges overlapping, which might not be correct.
What role do effects and different instrumentation play? Music is rarely made with nothing but pure sine tones. There’s near-infinite room for expression of any note. How does all of that map onto Fig. 3a?
What is the Babylonian Triangle of Captivity? Is it a good thing that its borders prevent pure regret and pure desire? Why are its corners labeled with all negative things? Is any point on the graph that touches the circumference bad? If so, what is the motivation for straying from the center?
The center of the graph is called the signal source. Is it truly just a middle D? What role do these blue sparks, black smoke, and white flames play? Are they an expression of synesthesia?
Why is the circumference of the graph referred to as a tape loop so long it will take three lifetimes to hear in its entirety…? Is it implied that the circumference rotates? Does that take the axes with it?

Conclusion

Ultimately, this post adds what is perhaps only a small amount of insight into Fig. 3a, but it's more than I've seen posted anywhere and I think it's a good place to launch further analysis and discussion from.

2023.06.04 16:30 Engineerism RJ45 Model M

Good morning all,
I bought an RJ45 Model M (theoretically for a terminal machine) so of course it doesn't work with my Windows machine.
Part Number: 1392595
I have a lot of questions:
I have a Soarer's Converter that I believe is being registered by the machine, but no output from keystrokes. When I plug in the Soarer's converter alone it gives the same recognition noise. I assume that either the chip inside of the terminal keyboard is just not compatible with my hardware.
I feel like I should just swap the chip that came in my keyboard with one that actually works (PS/2 edition or smth) and then use a PS/2 to USB soarer's converter to link it with all my machines (because I want to do a HHKB layout with mine and give it a super key (which it does not have)).
What should I do? Am I on the right path to making this work? I feel like it shouldn't be this complicated but the majority of stuff I've seen on the RJ45 boards don't solve my issues so I'm just going to mod mine to hell so it works across all Operating Systems and all my machines (using the Soarer's converter so I can keep all of the settings saved essentially in the hardware of the adapter).
Let me know if you have any suggestions, I'm open to doing anything I just want to be retro and cool.

Honda getting a new pair of shoes after 6 years of abuse.
After years of climbing a 9 ft hill ithe first part to "break" was the tire tread. Never replaced anything else in this bad boy except oil. It'll also be getting kits first air filter and spark plug change since the day she came home in 2017.

2023.06.04 14:27 RobertThePersian JK 3.6 Pentastar with persistent oil filter housing leak.

Long story short: about to be installing my fifth oil filter housing assembly in eight months.
The Jeep: 2016 RHD JK with 100k+ miles, used for mail delivery that I've owned for four years. Using Mobil 1 5W-20 High Mileage Synthetic before the new engine which has had whatever Mopar oil the dealership put in. Also, I do use a torque wrench to tighten the filter to 18 ft. lbs. at every oil change, which I've been doing around every 3,000 miles because of the intense use.
I came home one day in October 2022 and noticed something that caught my eye on the garage floor underneath my Jeep. I looked and there was oil running underneath my Jeep on the backside of the oil pan and along where the inspection plugs are at on the bell housing, and had the transmission pan covered. I looked in the engine bay and I could tell the valve cover gaskets were wet (this will become somewhat relevant later). I checked the dipstick and noticed I was down a half-quart of oil. I got in touch with a local shop that has a good rep within my small community and the mechanic said it wasn't my valve covers, that I had an oil filter housing leak that was just running along the valve cover. I wanted him to do the work because I wasn't super-eager about reassembling the intake and I needed new spark plugs anyways (this will also come back later), so that overlaps well enough. It took him a month to get around to it, I drove my backup a lot in the meantime, and the bill for spark plugs and the oil filter ended up being $660. That's how I got Oil Filter Housing #2.
But the Jeep kept leaking oil.
I took it back to the local mechanic the next chance I got, a couple of weeks later. He said he'd look at it that day, I guess he did, and assured me it was probably old oil that was still stuck along the way. I was skeptical; after probably fifty hours of use, any old oil should have run off or burned off a bit ago. The Jeep keeps on leaking oil, even after I do an oil change. I take it back and the local mechanic pours some dye in and tells me to come back in a day and he will look and see if it's still leaking fresh oil. Local mechanic finds that it is and he reinstalls the oil filter housing, free of charge to me.
We had a wet and icy winter in the central US that kept the garage floor and the bell housing and the transmission pan cleaned off so I didn't notice a lot of oil getting on the floor but I did have to keep the Jeep topped off, losing a quart about every 1500 miles. I'm figuring that's not super unusual for a Pentastar with 100k+ on the clock and I'm busy and don't have time to have the Jeep laid up in the weather that I bought it for. When spring comes around I start to notice the leak again. At this point I'm starting to suspect a rear main seal more than oil filter housing but the inspection holes are still dry.
One weekend in March, I did an oil change on a Sunday afternoon. The next day (Monday, the perfect day of the week for this to happen), I'm heading out to load my Jeep and I notice a gigantic puddle of something underneath my Jeep. It looks to me like the front crankshaft seal just pissed itself. I feel the puddle and the liquid is slick, like oil. It's also barely above 32F outside, and all the liquid I can see is running underneath the crankshaft pulley. Oil stick still looks OK though. I panic drive the Jeep back home and get it in the garage, put a mat under it, get my backup and do my route. I try to get a local shop (the one I went to before or any others within ten miles, which is about as far as I estimate it can go) to see if they can get my Jeep in but they refuse to take it because they are too busy. I call a Jeep dealership a couple of towns over that has a good reputation (as opposed to the one a town over, but owned by the same company, that doesn't) and have it towed there. I tell them about the immediate problem and the oil leak I've been having. The service advisor, who I have to say is one of the better ones I've ever worked with on anything, calls me back and tell me that it wasn't the crank seal, it was the water pump. They also noticed I had some rocker arms going bad. I tell them that I had noticed that too (I had always heard that Jeep dealerships wouldn't look at rockers until a check engine light came on otherwise I'd have taken care of this a year or two ago) and that they would replace those. The oil leak looked to be coming out of the oil filter housing and the valve covers (the same thing I thought six months ago). To skip ahead through a couple of phone calls, the rockers on the left bank of the Pentastar were also bad and a cam over there was damaged. I could have all of that repaired for $5300 or just install a reman engine + the oil filter housing for around $8k, which would include a three year, 100k mile parts & labor warranty. After thinking about what else could continue going wrong, I ended up telling them to put a reman in. I get over to the dealership to pick up my Jeep after it's all said and done and the SA says "Oh, we had to put new spark plugs in, the old ones were junk and weren't really for that vehicle." My opinion of the trusted local mechanic really has gone downhill but I'm thrilled to have all of their bullshit behind me. That's the story of how I got Oil Filter Housing #3.
Things are going fine with the Jeep, not hearing any crazy noises, but it does occur to me to check the oil after about 1,000 miles. I check and it's about a half-quart low. My eyebrows are raised but I think, "well maybe the dealership only put 5.5 quarts in." I top it off with some Mobil 1 I had around, and continue on as normal. After about 2600 miles on the new motor, I decide to check it again and the oil level is barely registering on the dipstick. I look underneath the Jeep and the back of the pan and the bell housing are all covered with oil again (nothing's on the transmission pan, curiously enough). I look up top and I can see oil coming out below where the filter is (which I haven't even touched on this engine). I top off the Jeep (with Mobil 1 again, which I thought about but that didn't make the Jeep oil level low to start with), call the dealership, and they conclude that it is oil filter housing and they replace the oil filter housing and change the oil, all under warranty and it didn't cost me a dime. That's Oil Filter Housing #4.
I got my Jeep back Wednesday of last week. Besides driving it home, I drove my backup vehicle on Thursday and drove the Jeep on the route on Friday & Saturday (yesterday). There's an empty church parking lot I usually stop at and re-sort and reorganize my parcels in. I decided to have a peek underneath just to check things out and sure enough, right on the bottom side of the bell housing once again. I'm going to be calling the dealership back first chance I get this week, so I guess this will be Oil Filter Housing #5.
So that's the full background.
My question is, are there any other causes for this besides just coincidentally bad workmanship spread across multiple mechanics and companies, or have Mopar parts quality just gotten this bad? Is there anything I can bring up to the Jeep SA that might be making these oil filter housing assemblies fail? I'm completely out of ideas here.
