2023.05.28 17:20 Apache_Sobaco Zikz 612H is actually not that good and actually repainted 8 wheel azov.

So, first of all, maz 7310/7410/7910/543 are all 3m wide, and their in-game counterpart looks like to be less wide. Second thing, it is not that long and has small distance between wheels, you can see it on countless photos. All of irl maz have special tire type, our zikz has meh normal wheels. Irl this one was designed to be stable at 32° degree of roll, our one flips pretty easilly.
Well regarding load capacity, first one, is a back mounted crane a.k.a soyjack hapiness. It is a straight nerf to that truck, since rear crane makes it impossible to put anything on its roof, and that makes -2 cargo units. If the crane was at the normal position that would be much better. So compared to 10 wheel azov, which could fit 6-8 units of cargo(in case of 2x1 - 10 ) without using attachments and at least 12 with use of them, this one even struggles to fit 6 of it in most of the cases, since not every 1 size cargo can sit on 3rd floor reliably. So what is good for a soyjack is very bad to people who won't make second ride for any assignment, rather second assignment for one ride.
Regarding power and speed. It is just humiliating - due to lack of normal crane it has lower tier of load( like any regular 6x6), without use of attachments, and compared to other 6×6 and 8×8 its really slow due to lack of high-range and sheer weight which makes it accelerate very slow. Well, it can run on michigan mud without dropping speed, but pretty much any truck can do this. Voron grad and step 310 on high range can make it at least 1.2x faster and 1.5x faster on road. Another just dumb stupid moment it is helpless on any climbing place, it just stops and refuses to go up where most of any other trucks don't have any kind of problem, you can get into this situation even on said michigan. Well like availiable from start 8 wheel azov or like, bandit. Another issue it is just stalls and stops in mud, where 605r has zero issues.
So its bad truck, which not even close to zikz 605r in question of going everywhere, and nowhere close to 10 wheel azov in question of hauling big load, and terrible in comparison to fast trucks, in terms of acceleration, top speed and speed retention.
Well, it may bring happiness for sojacks that played spintires and mud runner, but here this one is "just another truck", best at nothing, not much of use.
To call it king, it needs much better tires, normally positioned crane and better PWR, and even then it would be slightly better version of 10 wheel azov.

2023.05.28 17:18 -et37- Where To Raid?

For the better part of a year, Lampião’s Realm had enjoyed ample raiding opportunities against their neighbors to the east & south on account of their civil wars. With the conclusion of both conflicts, the stability of his realm is at risk, and now the Captain must hold a proper Raiding Expedition against one of his neighbors. There is no shortage of potential targets, though the difference now is that none of them are distracted by war. They may actually have defenses put in place to halt him, and the bandit king will need to consider which target would be the best for his party to assail.
Note: Depending on the target, the attacked faction may have different ways of responding to the raid. Furthermore, attempting to raid the same target a second time in the future may be ruinous, so any that he does attack will be off the table in further raiding ventures, unless they find themselves at war that is.

A request for more information
I got this at my local coin/antique shop that I frequent. It has been staring at me every time I go in and finally screamed at me to take it home when I went to sell them some stuff and the other guy didn't want it and the guy selling it said he'd do a straight trade for it. I don't need a value estimate as I will never sell, I'd just like to know if what my gut says about it is right. I know it isn't ancient, but I get a very "Carter expedition Egyptian tourist knickknacks" vibe from it so I feel it is from at least the 1920s. The photo here isn't the best, so I will add more in the comments via imgur. The piece is fairly heavy, and I know most of thst is not the shadow box, so it seems well made. I have not opened the box to look at Nefertiti herself as I'm afraid I'd do more harm than good. The box construction is quite nicely done.

Apologies to anyone who has been unwillingly overdosed with ChatGPT posts lately.
I entered the first paragraph of Master and Commander, and asked the bot to write a short story of this scene. Then I asked 'What if these two went on a long voyage?''
While obviously no replacement for POB, or anyone else, this could be an excellent tool for anyone suffering from writer's block.
Can you write me a story if I prompt you with a scene? ChatGPT Of course! I'd be delighted to write a story based on a scene you provide. Please go ahead and give me the scene you have in mind, and I'll weave a story around it.
User The Music-room in the Governor's House at Port Mahon, a tall, handsome, pillared octagon, was filled with the triumphant first movement of Locatelli's C major quartet. The players, Italians pinned against the far wall be rows and rows of little round gilt chairs, were playing with passionate conviction as they mounted towards the penultimate crescendo, towards the deep, liberating final chord. And on the little gilt chairs at least some of the audience were following the rise with equal intensity: there were two in the third row, on the left-hand side; and they happened to be sitting next to one another. The listener farther on the left was a man between twenty and thirty whose big for overflowed his seat, leaving one a streak of gilt wood to be seen here and there. He was wearing his best uniform - the white lapelled blue coat, white waistcoat, breeches and stockings of a lieutenant in the Royal Navy, with the silver medal of the Nile in his buttonhole - and the deep white cuff of his gold-buttoned sleeve to beat the time, whole his bright blue eyes, staring from what would have been a pink-and-white face if it had not been so deeply tanned, gazed fixedly at the bow of the first violin. The high note came, the pause, the resolution; and with the resolution the sailor's fist swept firmly down upon his knee. He lent back in his chair, extinguishing it entirely, sighed happily and turned towards his neighbor with a smile. The words 'Very finely played, sir, I believe' were formed in his gullet if not quite in his mouth when he caught the cold and indeed inimical look and heard the whisper, 'If you really must beat the measure, sir, let me entreat you to do so in time, and not half a beat ahead.' ChatGPT In the vibrant music-room of the Governor's House at Port Mahon, a symphony of passion and triumph filled the air. The grand octagonal chamber, adorned with tall pillars, resonated with the enchanting melodies of Locatelli's C major quartet. The Italian musicians, positioned against the far wall, poured their hearts into each note, their conviction carrying them towards the crescendo that promised an exhilarating climax. Among the audience, perched upon rows of elegant gilt chairs, two individuals captivated by the music sat side by side. The listener to the left, a young man in his twenties or thirties, occupied more space than his seat could contain. His impressive stature, emphasized by his naval uniform—a resplendent white-lapelled blue coat, a pristine white waistcoat, breeches, and stockings—exuded an air of authority. The silver medal of the Nile, proudly displayed in his buttonhole, hinted at his naval exploits. His sun-kissed complexion adorned with bright blue eyes fixated unwaveringly on the bow of the first violin. As the composition reached its zenith, building up to the final chord, the sailor's anticipation surged within him. His gold-buttoned sleeve, cuff extended, beat in perfect rhythm against his knee. With bated breath, he awaited the climactic high note, the transformative pause, and the ensuing resolution. And when that glorious resolution resounded, carrying the room to the pinnacle of musical ecstasy, the sailor's fist came down upon his knee with resolute conviction. Satisfied, he leaned back in his chair, extinguishing its golden sheen, and released a contented sigh. Turning towards his neighboring listener, a smile played upon his lips, ready to express his admiration for the sublime performance. However, before the words could find their voice, he caught a frigid and unwelcoming gaze from his companion, accompanied by a whispered reprimand. "If you really must beat the measure, sir," the rebuke slipped through pursed lips, laced with disapproval, "let me entreat you to do so in time, and not half a beat ahead." The sailor's smile faltered momentarily, struck by the unexpected iciness of the response. He blinked, taking in the critical tone and the stranger's stern countenance. Realizing his misstep, he mustered an apologetic expression, tempered with humility. "My sincerest apologies, sir," he replied softly, contrition evident in his voice. "I allowed my enthusiasm to carry me away. Your admonishment is duly noted, and I assure you, I shall be more mindful in the future." The neighboring listener, seemingly appeased by the sailor's apology, softened his gaze, recognizing the earnestness in the young man's eyes. A flicker of understanding passed between them, bridging the gap that had momentarily divided them. "Very well," he responded, a trace of reluctant admiration blending with the lingering aloofness. "Let us enjoy the remainder of this exquisite performance together, in harmony, and with a shared appreciation for the music." The sailor nodded, gratitude and eagerness intertwining within him. The barriers that had briefly risen between them dissolved, allowing the enchanting melodies to carry them both on a harmonious journey. From that moment onward, their appreciation for the music transcended their differences, weaving an unspoken bond between them within the captivating confines of the Governor's House at Port Mahon. And as the quartet's final notes faded into the air, their applause, united and fervent, joined the chorus of appreciation that filled the music-room, harmonizing the souls of all who were fortunate enough to witness that unforgettable performance. User What if the two characters went together on a long voyage next? ChatGPT Embarking on an unforeseen adventure, the two characters found themselves drawn together by their shared love for music and the uncharted allure of the open sea. The sailor, Lieutenant William Harrington, and his unlikely companion, a refined gentleman named Edward Sinclair, discovered a profound connection amidst the enchantment of the Music-room in the Governor's House at Port Mahon. As fate would have it, Lieutenant Harrington's naval duties presented an opportunity for an extended voyage aboard the HMS Seraph, a majestic vessel scheduled for an expedition to unexplored territories. Unbeknownst to both men, their paths were destined to intertwine once more on this remarkable journey. Intrigued by the prospect of exploration and the allure of distant shores, Edward, a man of scholarly disposition, harbored a deep yearning for adventure that resonated with the naval officer. The echoes of Locatelli's quartet continued to linger in their hearts, serving as a testament to the profound connection they had established in that Port Mahon music-room. Lieutenant Harrington, upon learning of Edward's shared passion for discovery, extended an invitation to accompany him on the voyage. Edward, captivated by the idea of traversing uncharted waters and the possibility of uncovering hidden treasures, accepted the offer with an eagerness that matched the sailor's own. Months of preparation ensued as the HMS Seraph underwent meticulous provisioning for the journey. The day of departure finally arrived, and the ship set sail, leaving behind the familiar shores of Port Mahon. Lieutenant Harrington, assuming his role as an experienced officer, guided Edward through the intricacies of life aboard a naval vessel, teaching him the ropes, both literally and metaphorically. As the ship ventured into the vast expanse of the ocean, the two newfound companions found solace in the shared experiences of life at sea. They faced tempestuous storms that lashed against the ship's sturdy hull, their camaraderie growing stronger amidst the chaos. They stood side by side on the deck, gazing at breathtaking sunsets that painted the horizon with vivid hues, finding beauty in the ever-changing tableau of nature. During long nights beneath a star-studded sky, Lieutenant Harrington regaled Edward with tales of his past adventures—his daring exploits, encounters with distant cultures, and the triumphs and tribulations that accompanied a life at sea. Edward, in turn, imparted his intellectual insights, engaging the sailor in discussions on literature, philosophy, and the power of art to transcend boundaries. Together, they navigated uncharted waters, mapping unknown territories, and unearthing the treasures of knowledge and friendship. In their shared cabin, notes of music flowed freely, as Lieutenant Harrington would strum a guitar, and Edward would join him with melodies on a humble flute. Their impromptu performances carried the spirit of Locatelli's quartet, evoking memories of the music-room that had initially brought them together. Months turned into years, and the long voyage evolved into a transformative odyssey for both men. The sailor and the scholar discovered the profound depths of their shared humanity and the vastness of the world that lay before them. They encountered foreign cultures, witnessed breathtaking landscapes, and forged bonds with diverse peoples they encountered along their maritime path. When the HMS Seraph eventually returned to Port Mahon, its sails tattered but hearts emboldened, Lieutenant Harrington and Edward Sinclair disembarked as inseparable friends. Their transformative voyage had not only broadened their horizons but had solidified their connection, intertwining their lives in a tapestry woven by the threads of music, adventure, and camaraderie. And as they bid farewell to the ship that had been their floating sanctuary, their journey continued, a testament to the enduring power of unlikely friendships forged against the backdrop of unexplored horizons, echoing the symphony of life's unexpected harmonies.

2023.05.28 16:48 HelensCat Question regarding NVC documents submission

Hello everyone,
My wife just received her Welcome Letter from the NVC, and we are trying to figure out the best time to submit documents for an interview date. Our 2nd anniversary is in less than 2 months. Once I opened the CEAC form, the top right portion stated the visa class is for a CR-1 VISA. After 2 years of marriage, I assume we are entitled to a IR-1 visa so that we may avoid having to remove conditions in the future. My wife is currently in her medical residency which will last a year from now so we have no plans to go to the states, at least not until June 2024. Would waiting on submitting the documents to CEAC be a better option? It's stated on the website that we have a year to submit the form to process her visa. We are not trying to delay things for too long but we'd like to know what the best options for us are. I assume cases are expedited for US Citizen based green card applications which is why I am writing this.
Thank you

2023.05.28 16:39 teslatwin Buying car - need advice

Hello everyone,
I find myself in a bit of a pickle and could use some advice as nobody in my family really had anything useful to offer 😬
I have a car: 2013 Ford Fiesta ST, 182000km, 182hp, manual, petrol. I love this car but it starting to cost me a pretty penny as it ages. I just had to fix a part of the right front wheel and although I don’t have the bill yet, I am expecting it to be around 1K chf. On top of that, license plates are almost 600.- a year and insurance isn’t cheap either.
I drive a lot, work is 120km round trip, 4x times a week (sometimes only 2x as I carshare with a friend). I know that when the car hits 200k km I will have some big maintenance to consider (mechanic quoted me 1-1.5k chf).
I went and tested a “new” used car on friday: A skoda fabia Monte Carlo with all the fancy options. Size is similar but it is 5 doors and would cost me less than 100.- a year with licences plates in Vaud. Amag would buy my current car for 5k chf which would go as an “apport” for the Fabia…
I’ve never done a leasing before. Is this a smart move? Would you go for it? Monthly payments for leasing (48months, 20000km a year) would be 270.-… makes it a little tight budget wise but I am expecting to get a raise at work soon (a couple of months).
Sorry for the long post. I am a little lost as to what the best move is. I have some money saved on the side but would rather keep that for emergencies. I’m also a little miffed because the Fiesta has just been serviced and had the repairs done so that’s potentially 2k ish down the drain if I sell it. I would look to sell it myself (worth 7.5k chf) but I don’t have a lot of time and it seems to be a hassle. Thanks to anyone willing to offer some advice. I hope you’re all enjoying the long weekend!!!

2023.05.28 16:06 Redit_Monkey My Portable Radio Recommendations 2023.

For anyone new to the hobby they might find this information useful or anyone with an interest in Shortwave radio or listening to Ham Radio.
This is my opinion based on my own experience with these radios.
I had the Tecsun 880, 990x, S-8800 + Sangean ATS-909 X2 and I have the H501x, 330 and PL-680.Best value for money, best sounding on SSB is the Tecsun PL-680 by far and next is the Sangean ATS-909 X2 because it also sounds good on SSB. Why care about SSB ? well I listen to Hams + I also use ECSS which is essential for the serious SW enthusiast and DX'er and ECSS works better than just having tighter filters because it gives better selectivity, so for example, you might have interference on a station on SW/AM, on a DSP radio you might use your 2 Khz filter but it might not be enough to cut the interference.press USB/LSB and it often eliminates the interference altogether or reduces it and can often sound better than a 2 Khz filter because the filters narrow the bandwidth each side of the carrier where as SSB cuts either the upper or lower side which is where the interference might be.So, it's crucial to have a radio that does not have a DSP chip for the serious SW enthusiast or DX'er and for anyone listening to hams.
The Pl-680 is the best value for performance radio you can still buy today that's analogue and so good sounding on SSB and ECSS, the Sangean ATS-909 X2 is the next.
The sangean 909 X2 might have noise issues on the whip at lower frequencies but if you use the power supply or external antenna the noise is completely gone but you got a really sweet sounding radio far better than any DSP radio by far. DSP, in my opinion is just there to save money for the manufacturer by offering less components, less or no alignment needed but it destroys the audio on SSB making ECSS useless and listening to Hams. I don't know if sangean have fixed this noise ?
I use external antennas for 99.5% of my listening, I use the magnificent tiny Bonito MA-305 with optional longer whip, H155 coax and it's grounded. Fantastic signal to noise performance vs long wire but I also have good experience with EFHW 49:1 134 foot long that I also use for transmitting with my Yaesu FTDX10.
My favourite radio has to be the Tecsun PL-680 because of it's performance at the cost + the SSB audio quality, next would be the Sangean ATS-909 X2 because of it's performance and audio quality on SSB, it does have interference issues at lower frequencies that can be completely eliminated with grounding or external antenna or by plugging in the power adapter. I use external antenna most of the time. Only reason I sold the Sangean was to pay for the H501x but I should have kept the sangean because the Tecsun H501x has bad sound also on SSB, better than the 880 and 990x but not worth due to the cost, it shouldn't have these issues and it seems that the sound quality issues will never be resolved with these SIxxx chips so my advise is that anyone who uses ECSS ( everyone should in my opinion ) or SSb then avoid DSP radio like the plague, DSP is just for marketing and to make the radio manufacturer more money by needing less components.
In my opinion, the only way DSP radio makes sense is in the tiny PL-330 simply because it greatly improves it's ability to handle strong signals with minimal component count, the PL-310 ET will die at night with any decent external antenna and the 330 will be able to cope with much stronger signals but for such a tiny radio I only recommend using it as an on the go radio and not for home use because it really is too small and the muting when tuning is very irritating but for the money it's the only DSP radio I would recommend, it still has the same distortion and low frequency cut off on SSB but it's really nice to have SSB on a radio so small.
Another other radio I recommend is the original Malahit from Russia, you can get more information on the telegram group or groups.io.
The Malahit is more expensive then the PL-680 but you get a radio that's fun to use and also sounds great in any mode, ( via headphones ) for the money the Malahit is far better value than any of the more expensive DSP radios. But it absolutely needs an external antenna for SW, MW, LW and ham bands. + headphones or external speaker.
Finally, the Belka DX is another great sounding radio ( via headphones ) and works great on all bands and modes and is very tiny but I prefer using a larger radio, however, it's performance and sound are well above the DSP radios but I put it at No.4 due to it being so small it's not as nice to use as a proper radio and I prefer the malahit to use.

So in 2023 my top choice portable radios are
1: Tecsun PL-680
2: Malahit DSP 3 ( this is the new version ) excellent sound on SSB and fun to use, needs external antenna.
3: Sangean ATS:909 X2
4: Belka DX
5= I do not recommend any DSP radio if you like using ECSS on a commercial station or like listening to hams.

2023.05.28 16:00 Grievous69 Missile weapons tier list - 0.96a RC10

Yea screw the order, I want to get out opinions on the new stuff first, it's more interesting. So after this one I'll go with energy weapons.
There will be two tiers listed for ships/weapons. The first one always showing how good something is in the hands of AI, the second one being for player control. If there is only one tier, then there isn't a noticeable difference in power between the pilot.
Tiers are relative, meaning something being C tier doesn't mean it's bad. It's simply niche and you can better choices available. There's almost no truly bad ships/weapons in Starsector so it would be boring to have a tier list consisting of maybe 3 tiers.
-----SMALL-----
Annihilator Rocket Launcher: B- / B
HE pressure weapon, fires in a burst of unguided missiles in a spread pattern (like Hammer Barrage) but it has very generous ammo for a small missile. It's nothing flashy and your ships will probably spam them even on targets they cannot hit. And that's good because you don't care too much about missing with 50 rockets and AI is deathly afraid of missiles in general. Compared to something homing and reliable like Harpoons, you can get much more damage out of these, provided you have some luck and your ships use them on slower targets.
Atropos-class Torpedo Rack: A
Only homing torpedo in the game (so beefy missile in translation), you can look at them as a sidegrade of Harpoons with the caveat of being weaker in fleet battle with more ships. Atropos has short range but it is very reliable, decent HE damage but you only get 2 shots. Cheapest reliable HE option tho.
Single variant has... a single missile yea who saw it coming, and it costs only a single ordnance point. Here's my question, if you plan on putting missiles on a ship, why be cheap? Go for the premium package. With this you get barely anything out of EMR and Missile Spec skill. Missiles are mostly high impact flux free weapons, go big or go home. I'd give this C tier or something idk, it's so fucking cheap, you'll just put anything else if you have it available.
Breach SRM: B
Dedicated anti-armour missile, it deals scripted armour damage that is NOT reduced by armour. Good ammo and OP cost but it is short range and honestly there's not many enemies where you really struggle with armour. For the toughest bricks out there, you'd probably bring a torpedo to do the job, or bombers. That said I still like Breaches since they're reliable and cheap.
Gazer DEM SRM: B+
Pressure kinetic beam missile so it's already niche. Each one fires a Graviton Beam for 10 seconds, and it also has their effect of increasing all damage taken to shields as long as it's firing on the target. Very nice ammo for small mount and it's dependable as it fires from a long range. Where Sabots are fire and forget to kill, here you need to commit and put pressure with your guns. Fun to use, in my opinion a bit situanional to be ranked higher.
Gorgon DEM SRM: A+
Easily spammable, Gorgons are a menace when you have lots of them. Energy burst beam means it even overloads shields quickly if it's a smaller target, and they are truly great for dealing with annoying frigates. 5 OP in a small mounts puts them on the higher end of costs but you get 4 missiles which is nice for ammo perks. Unlike Harpoons, you're going to need help with heavy armour.
Hammer-class Torpedo: A / A+
Guess this one didn't deserve to have a rack in the title, smh broken game. Fast unguided torpedo that you could maybe compare to Atropos. Both are reliable but in their own way, Hammers just fly fast and usually hit the target. And they also cost less OP and deal more damage. Just be careful you don't get in the way of a friendly Hammer cruising by.
Single variant: Same as with Atropos but even worse here, 1 OP gets you 1 torpedo, and the standard version also has the 1:1 ratio but that can actually benefit from ammo increasing perks. Stinky D tier.
Harpoon MRM: A+
If you're not sure what to exactly put in those small missile mounts, slap these on, you can never go wrong. HE homing finishers that actually have good range, they make sure that anything that's high on flux on overloaded gets bombarded with these from every ship having them. Fast frigates can avoid them without ECCM but other than that it's fantastic. There's a reason a bomber with Harpoons doesn't exist.
Double variant: Ehh it's not too bad but the refire delay is bullshit, the whole point is to unload these to finish a key target. Maybe if you have a ship with dozen of small mounts and you're reaaally hurting for OP. C+ tier since they're only 2 OP.
Reaper-class Torpedo: B / S-
4000 HE damage is all you need to crack the big boy armour ships. You only get a single Reaper for 2 OP so make it count. They are slower than Hammers but have more hitpoints, which is why AI won't always hit the mark. If we're being honest a single torpedo on a mount is nothing special even for a Reaper, but you can't deny its ability to vaporize enemies.
Sabot SRM: A+ / S+
Everything you ever wanted from a close range kinetic missile. Burst damage, avoids PD most of the time, EMP damage on hull. You get hit on shields, you're fucked, you get hit on hull, you're fucked. This is folks a very sexually active missile. The only complaint I have for them is that AI might not use them at the best time (opener) and sometimes saves them for panic moments. For player use though, absolute mastercpiece.
Double variant: Same as Harpoon double.
Salamander MRM: C
Rectal seeking missiles, Salamnders have a single job, disabling the engines. Their EMP damage might disable some weapons, but they target exclusively the back of ships. 5 OP but unlimited ammo on a cooldown. Honestly not really impactful for player fleet. Good PD or omni shields shut them down easily, you'll only have amazing moments here and there. But it is the most annoying thing on existence on the emeny side if you happen to pilot a ship vulnerable to them.
Swarmer SRM Launcher: A-
I feel like Swarmers are massively underrated, nobody talks about them. But this is how you make your ships immune to fighters and fragile frigates. Ton of ammo, cheap cost, excellent tracking and low cooldown. Only thing they don't do is damage anything bigger than your average frigate, and that's fine. They do their job really well. I'd put them even higher if they could handle Broadswords a bit better.
-----MEDIUM-----
Annihilator Rocket Pod: A / A+
Completely different from the small version, this one fires a stream of constant rockets, which is excellent HE pressure where enemies can't afford to lower their shields for long. Pairs great with low tech ships which have a couple of medium missile mounts. Biggest drawback here is ammo, you spend 100 rockets faster than you think. AI will fire them constantly which isn't horrible, but you really need EMR. It's also one of the few cases where the elite effect on a skill can screw you up. Elite Missile spec gives +50% fire rate, you really don't want that with medium Annihilators.
Breach SRM Pod: B
Pretty much the same as the small version, just fires 5 instead of 3 missiles per shot. It has more competition now but it also beats the competiition in the ammo department.
Dragonfire DEM Torpedo: D+
With a name like this one would think it's busted. No, not even close. Dragonfires are in a nutshell, energy Reapers that are "homing". By homing I mean it functions as other DEM beam missiles, while Dragonfire also have a aiming time. They fly very slowly, do their aiming laser thing, and then fire. In big fights the missile gets killed by something random most of the time. And even if it fires, most ships can move out of the beam. And if they somehow perfectly hit a ship, that's soft flux damage, unless the ship is sitting there with the pants down, but then you can just use Reapers. Which is why I won't even put a player piloting tier here, just use normal torpedoes on your flagship. Oh almost forgot the worst part, this has 2 ammo. 2 ammo for 12 OP! Insane. With all ammo boosting perks it just has enough ammo as a Typhoon Reaper out of the box. This needs a buff so it's not a meme anymore.
Gazer SRM Pod: B+
Same as small Gazers, plenty of ammo here too, it fires 2 Gazers per volley. Still niche for ships that are too slow for Sabots or really want to have this for some fleet synergy.
Gorgon SRM Pod: C-
Where the fuck did it go so wrong? For some reason it has the same ammo as Harpoons, fires 2 Gorgons per shot and has a long cooldown... The very missile that is great for bursting down, needs to wait 10 seconds to fire again. Just mount small ones and install EMR. If you want homing damage in a medium, other options are better.
Harpoon MRM Pod: B
Not a fan of them firing 4 missiles per volley, but hey it's Harpoons at the end of the day, can't be bad. It just runs out too fast without ammo perks so I have to rank it lower than the small ones. And what happens often, 4 Harpoons just overkill the target.
Jackhammer: C / C+
Would be a better pick if it weren't for Typhoons. Firing 3 torpedoes at once, with 6 ammo doesn't give you much possibilities in a fight. Very cheap though, but as I have said already, you shouldn't save on missiles if you plan of using them (unless there isn't a better version of what you want). Due to how armour works in the game, I'm almost positive that a single Reaper does more damage in the end than 3 Hammers. 4000 vs 4500 damage which is split between 3 sources.
Pilum LRM Launcher: C
Let me be clear, these are in no way bad, they just aren't flashy and their impact isn't immediate. Pilums have infinite ammo but regenerate slowly over time, so you can "spend" them, the DPS just gets lower then. Longest ranged weapon in the game, they're THE support weapon from other side of the map, they pressure targets by dealing EMP damage through shields when the enemy's flux is high. Other than that it's fragmentation damage which won't do much to both shields and armour. 7 OP for a medium missile is cheap, especially unlimited one. They have their place in the game, I just don't use them much, maybe on some carrier that is waaay behind the frontlines.
Proximity Charge Launcher: A+ / S
Chonky Annihilators is what best describes this thing. Another HE pressure weapon, albeit having shorter range than Annihilators. But the bombs explode in AOE, killing fighters along the way. Also excellent against ships, only downside is their slow travel speed. And as with Annihilators, you run out of ammo pretty fast without ammo perks. 12 OP is expensive but it's worth it.
Sabot SRM Pod: A+ / S+
Everything I said about Sabots applies here as well. Fires 2 per volley and has 12 ammo so a bit more sustain than small ones.
Salamander MRM Pod: D-
Outside of meme builds, no one uses these. Salamanders are already pretty binary, either they reach engines, or they don't. You're paying double the cost in OP for having 1 Salamander more in a volley. Maybe there are some fights in the game where this is useful, but I haven't seen that yet. You can spend your points on better stuff that always works.
Typhoon Reaper Launcher: A / S+
I thought these were great before, but Alex said "more ammo" for some reason. So 6 Reapers for 10 OP. Not much to say here, monsters on flagships. And AI can blunder one time more than before. Ships that have 3-4 of these will put the fear of god in you.
-----LARGE-----
Cyclone Reaper Launcher: A / S+
Even better than in previous patch, Cyclones are the ultimate dumb fire torpedoes. If your ship has forward facing large missile mounts, and has a mobility system or is fast, put these on. They almost don't need EMR with 20 shots. Beautiful things.
Dragonfire Torpedo Pod: D+
Well 5 ammo is an improvement, but not by much, most expensive missile in the game and has this much ammo. Reliability is the same as medium version, nonexistent. And for some dumb reason, large version has a 14 second cooldown. WHY??
Hammer Barrage: A- / S-
Cyclones with better DPS but they last for far less. 20 torpedoes and each volley fires 4, in a spread. Nice for big chunky targets but I prefer Cyclones now.
Hurricane MIRV Launcher: B- / B+
Poor Hurricane being nerfed so many times, it's still not bad, but far from the original powerhouse. Fires a single missile that splits into 7 smaller payloads which once they spawn, they lose the homing property of the original missile. Great range but AI tends to fire these willy nilly into smaller ships. It's funny to spam from a mile away along with Squalls.
Hydra MDEM Launcher: D
Mom: "We have Locusts at home" the missile. Somehow the Gorgon family just keeps getting shittier through the mount upgrades. Hydras like Hurricane MIRV have a single big missile that splits, this time into 6 (basically Gorgons). BUT 3 go to the left side of a ship and 3 to the right. As to flank it. Here's the obvious stinky thing, you don't want your damage split, unless you're playing a completionist minigame by stripping every single pixel of armour. It's nice for smaller targets and ships with narrow shields but very unremarkable otherwise. 15 ammo is nice tho. I don't even know how to go along fixing it, it's just way too meh, and Locusts are better versus small ships.
Locust SRM Launcher: S+
My favourite large missile, Locusts are going to eliminate every fighter and frigate you see on the screen. You don't need EMR, ECCM or even Missile spec. I mean it's even better with those but you get my point. Out of the box, cheap large missile that's incredibly reliable. Fires 40 fragmentation missiles that will automatically home in on nearest fightefrigate. And even with bigger ships that have their armour destroyed, this thing can eat through the hull. Many other large missiles got nerfed, but my boy is still staying strong. Of course you still need something to fight capitals and stations but this thing has you covered in every other area.
Pilum LRM Catapult: C+
Same as medium but double the cost, double the missiles fired, double the fun. Actually it's even better than that with better reload times, meaning DPS is higher than 2x of the medium version. The problem is still that you have better more impactful options. Yet I won't deny the fun of spamming the whole screen with these. Nice to keep the enemy busy with their PD and shields.
Squall MLRS: S
Still great, what a shocker I know. Lost EMP component, lost most of the damage on hull. But who cares, damage versus shields is the same, and that's the important part. Squall is a pressure kinetic missile that has 2500 range. So even before your enemies get in gun range, they have hard flux buildup. They have a lot of HP per missile so the PD can't even stop them. Faster ships can dodge the barrage, though that's a very minor downside to this MVP. Almost every enemy in the game has a shield you need to get through, Squalls will always have a place in your fleet. Until Alex decides one day to make the most bullshit end game enemy with only armour and phase ability.

Brown, Ayomide and Hakim were currently busy in the forest outside of Azdavay, looking for wood that could be converted into weaponry.
“Captain! I have great news!” The one shouting with great excitement was Hakim, who was holding a bundle of plants which looked very similar to the cattails that Brown had seen back in the wetlands of America. He also carried a couple of chestnuts in his pockets.
📷
A chef like Hakim could separate the rest of the forest from the trees. He had just stumbled upon a small lake formed from the constant rain, where these cattail-like plants had grown.
“Is that food that’s not slime?” Ayomide was the one who was intrigued the greatest by the introduction of these new plants.
“Yes, it is. These are ‘shepherd reeds’, that’s what they were called in my hometown.” Hakim peeled the rind off of two of the plants and handed them over to Brown and Ayomide. “Try them out, you can eat them raw.” He then peeled himself a shepherd reed to eat with the others. The white core of the plant tasted similar to asparagus. Eating it raw definitely wasn’t the tastiest thing, but it tasted like the clouds of Heaven to Ayomide who had only consumed slime for almost an entire season.
“And we can… Actually, I’ll leave what I can do with the rest as a surprise for later.” Hakim looked full of excitement as he examined the reeds he had harvested. “These are the best during late spring, we arrived at the perfect time.” He’d definitely be back in the forest for another harvest.
“Actually, couldn’t we just use these plants as straw?” said Ayomide upon examining the reeds. "Get rid of the heads, and we can easily lie on them I’d think."
“I reckon. The straw from these plants were also made into hats and other stuff back in my hometown. I don’t know how they did it, I was young when I got separated.” Hakim secured his bundle of shepherd reeds with his hands, and looked at Brown and Ayomide. “So, you found good sticks?”
Brown nodded. “I think these should be enough. Let’s go back then.” He and Ayomide were carrying a bundle of wood in their hands. Brown was also carrying, in his pockets and a knapsack that had been taken from Jacob, small stones he had found along the road. “Ayomide?”
“R-Right. Let’s go.” Ayomide turned back to face the path to the cave, and the others followed.
📷
📷
While Brown and co were busy with reeds and wood, Shinasi and Tater were exploring the mountain path.
Captain Brown and Shinasi had only headed the path between Curry toward Azdavay, he hadn’t had the chance to go up the Curry path it to see what lay there. So, they had decided that they’d first survey their immediate area first, before beginning their journey to survey the faraway plantations.
The mountains were largely peaceful, like any area near human habitation. The residents of Azdavay had long cleared anything scary like dragons or wyverns. All that was left were man-bears, man-wolves (not to be confused with werewolves) and generic slimes, who Shinasi could take on his own with his spear and pavise. Young Tater only had a combat knife to his name, he hoped that he would soon get a new weapon for himself when the team back at the cave got to crafting them.
“’Tis cold, isn’t it, mister?” Tater, and the rest of the former slaves, only had rags to their name. Thankfully, Brown had let Tater borrow his coat for this expedition.
“Mm. Totally… Yeah.” Shinasi seemed to be more focused on staring at the sky and contemplating idly, which was unusual for a former adventurer like him.
Thinking was not for adventurers, or so thought Tater who had only heard of adventurers through random tidbits. “What got you think so hard?”
“It’s adult business, my boy.”
“Adult business?” Tater quickly went through his mental list of what constituted as ‘adult business’. “Booze?”
“No- I mean, yeah… lack of drink is a problem. Right now, it’s not that.” Shinasi hadn’t had anything to drink since he had escaped Azdavay.
“Uhm… crippling debt?”
“That was a problem. However, I have the slightest hunch that the debt collectors might not want to visit a cave full of fugitive slaves.”
“Then… love?” This was his last. Tater had exhausted his list of ‘adult business’ that didn’t involve his juvenile ideas about acts of interhuman copulation.
Shinasi instinctively turned his head away from Tater to avoid his gaze. “Y-yeah, it’s totally not that either. Nuh-uh.
Shinasi’s love life had caught the interest of Tater. Such topics seemed like they were of utmost importance for a young boy like him. “Mister, who’s the special one?” He poked Shinasi mischievously, hoping to drag out an answer.
“Oh, shut up.” Shinasi continued avoiding the relentless psychological attacks from Tater as the duo marched on the road. They hadn’t seen anything interesting, until they came upon a small village, actually a large estate housing an open mining field, in the mountains.
“I think this is one of the copper mining villages.” commented Shinasi. “Plenty of copper up in these mountains.” The Curry Mountain was famous in Gemeinplatz for its bountiful veins of copper, and the towns in Casamonu were famous for manufacturing goods from this copper.
“So, this where they got the stuff they make our pots out of.” Tater’s eyes were fixed on a line of slaves carrying pickaxes who were coming out of a wooden shack next to the mine. They were flanked by two overseers holding whips and carrying swords.
It wasn’t a plantation, but these mines did fill the critical criteria of ‘having lots of slaves’ “We found the kind of thing the old man’s looking for.”
“Think we did. Let’s give them a greeting, shall we?”
“Right.” Shinasi and Tater kept marching on, until they were in range to speak with the overseers. “Top of the morning to you, gentlemen.”
📷
The trio of Brown, Ayomide and Hakim had returned back to the cave. They quickly got to work, each of them holding a kitchen knife (courtesy of the late Jacob) and the items that they had foraged.
Brown and Ayomide were doing their best to carve shafts out of the sticks, which was a painful process as they both weren’t experienced with carving of any kind. Meanwhile, Hakim was preparing the shepherd reeds for culinary use by peeling the rinds and cutting them off from the strawy bits. He wasn’t doing this just to make food; the straw would be useful as rope for the makeshift weaponry.
After an hour or two, Brown and Ayomide had constructed shafts of acceptable quality. Now came the experimental part. Brown had been carrying large stones he had foraged during their travels. Both of them also had cut small pieces of wood, around ten inches (30 cm) long, to use as a hammer for shaping the stones.
This wasn’t an exact science; this was just what the people in the cave had come up with after a long brainstorming session.
They spent some time, knapping the stones, trying to find out which were hard and which were soft. Eventually, after another ten minutes of experimentation, Brown and Ayomide had a good idea as to the characteristics of the stones they had. Then they began knapping the stones, slowly carving a vaguely spear-like shape. After enough knapping, they used the small wood hammers to carve smaller, more intricate chips off the stone. To finish it all off, they scraped these spearheads to the floors of the cave to polish them the best as they could.
Now the only thing left was to put up the finishing touches. They took the straw that Hakim had prepared in the meanwhile, and they attempted to use the straw to bind the spearheads with the wooden shaft. The first one to do this successfully was Ayomide, who now had a complete spear. Then followed Brown in success, who happily looked upon the fruits of their labor.
Today, on the 74th of Spring 5859, John Brown and Ayomide entered the Stone Age.
“You know, I bet I can make an axe or something with this.” Ayomide seemed to be enjoying knapping. She put her newly spear aside to tinker with stone.
Brown, who was now a couple days off of being exactly sixty years old at this point, couldn’t stand long sessions of sitting down and working. He stood up, to take a break, and to observe what Hakim was up to.
Hakim had been occupied with further processing the shepherd reeds. His job hadn’t been done when he had peeled the rinds off the cores, he intended to use every part of the plant. He was grinding the starchy roots of the plant with a large rock, which produced flour. This grinding process was largely done by the time Brown had come to the scene.
“Ah, captain. Could you hand me one of your spears?”
Brown didn’t know why Hakim needed a spear for cooking, but he obliged and handed the man one of the newly crafted spears. Hakim proceeded to dump the flour he had made into a pot filled with a thin layer of slime and plants unknown to Brown. To Brown’s surprise, Hakim began violently beating the mixture in the pot with the shaft of the spear. The mixture eventually coalesced into a solid lump with a consistency similar to soft rice cake.
“Sorry for dirtying your shaft, captain.” Hakim gave back the slime-stained shaft to Brown. “These ‘spear cakes’ could be useful as provisions. They won’t rot easily, and their taste is better than pure slime slop.” He picked a lump for himself, and handed Brown another.
“Thank our Heavenly Father for providing us with this meal.” Brown obliged by biting a lump out of this strange spear cake. “Mmm… They have quite the minty taste.”
“It’s just a bit of this-and-that from the forest to get that mint taste. Even troops on the march could cook this without extra effort, I reckon. Living off the land, and all that.”
Ayomide was about to request some of the spear cake, before she was rudely interrupted by Shinasi and Tater entering the cave. “Captain, we have some good news.”
“Welcome back, young men. What’d your good news be?” Brown was ready for some good news, being stuck on a mountain did that to a man.
“You see, Tater and I found a copper mining village up on the road. It’s pretty close to where we are.” He pointed to the vague direction of the village. “Just up there. It’s lightly guarded, just some overseers for the slaves and nothing much more.”
Ayomide raised her brow. “Wait, weren’t we going for plantations?”
“It don’t matter, do it?” The one to reply was Tater. “There’re plenty of slaves, and plenty of loot up in copper land.”
“As the boy says. I of course don’t have a full account of what they have, but one’s gotta assume that they’d not have nothing. Not to mention, they hired me as a temporary guard after I told them that I was an adventurer. Apparently, they’re scared by the uprising in Azdavay.”
“Good thing we started on the spears then.” Brown looked at Ayomide. “We’ll have to work extra, young lady, to get arms for us and the slaves as soon as possible.”
Hakim interjected “And food as well, we need to have food for when they’re at our cave.”
“Then it seems we’re at a consensus.” Brown was excited to get back to doing what he did best. “Our first target for liberation shall be the copper mine!”

2023.05.28 15:19 Holiday-Claim-4843 Question regarding the farm

Hello Exails, I would like to kindly ask you about tips or some suggestions (what to do and what I do wrongly) about the farm. Currentlt I playing toxic Rain ballista (Palsteron build) and would like to earn few divines to make my first ever more expensive build by buying crystallised omniscience for manaforged build. I played few leagues already but still Im kinda noob (I watched dozens hours of guides) and still could find a good way to earn proper amout of money-which is f*** frustraiting. I am able to do t16 with currentlt build and build my atals on essences, einhar and Expedition yet still I dont earn enough money (soon i paste my POB) . I simply can't do one map in two minute - my run last like 10:/. Best option i found is buing t14+ maps and farm searing/eater of worlds invitions by simply rushing the map till first altar(or whatever IT isncalled appear). I already killed searing exarch and eater of World and Got 2 voidstones. I kindly beg you for detailed tips as this start to be agony not being able to build high end builds for 15 20 divs ever.

2023.05.28 14:50 jpmondx Finale - Rule of 3 - the kids names

So I watched the finale last night and thought it touched all the bases it needed to. The whole neglected children's angle mentioned in a few reviews escaped me as I never had kids and don't think of childhood as a precious Faberge egg.
Having tried standup a few times myself, I simply wanted to point out how perfect her reference to her kids names was. Dunno how formal a rule this is but comedy works best in threes. She set up the joke pretending to fade on her kid's name and then midway she hits on her lapsed memory a second time setting up a tension that's resolved perfectly. Ending her monologue with the 3rd mention finally getting the names was as good as it gets and makes for a great exit line. "Callback", "bookend", "button" whatever you call it was dead on and I found it very satisfying.
S5 surprised me with it's depth into the characters illustrated by the flashforwards. The showrunners actually gave thought to the entire lifetime arc of a generational talent with all the minuses that go with fame. How the kids and husband would turn out was fun.
I would have been perfectly happy with the series closing on Ford's (let's face it, Johnny Carson's) anointment of "the Marvelous Mrs Maisel" because after 5 years, the penny finally dropped for me on why they gave the series such a long fussy title. Lenny reading the fortune cookie was sweet but the senior Midge and Suzie making each other laugh was dead on for me as a closing coda.

2023.05.28 14:32 VigilantTransSvcs New Anti-Fraud Setup Requirements Don’t Work. Find alternatives?

Dispatcher here. I have been studying the effect of recent changes many brokers are using to choke out scammer carriers.
On the surface, I see the allure of changing 30-90 day maturity on authorities for setup to one year or more. Conventional wisdom is that scammers can’t maintain a carrier authority for more than one year because their fake trucks make it impossible to pass a new entrant audit and the authority will be shutdown by then.
What is happening based on this rule is that new legitimate carriers can’t find work.
The scammers have begun dropping their own fake carriers and are using their collection of real carrier data from double brokering loads and stealing the ID of real carriers that fit the new requirements. They are targeting carriers with GMAIL or other public domain email service, and generate an email very close to the safer email for the carrier (Ex - [email protected] is SAFER email, and scammer books load with [email protected]). Since the scammer has worked with XYZ before or was able to buy their info from RIGZ or Kissflow (some enterprising scammers are also using RMIS and MCP to gather real carrier info also), it is easy for them to present themselves as that carrier with all of the necessary documentation for setup. The scammers are still circumventing broker anti-scammer defenses by impersonating good carriers.
The result is that the number of scammed loads is still rising, the number of legitimate new authorities failing in their first year is skyrocketing, and real carriers with multi-year authorities are now being marked as double brokers because their authority was stolen by a scammer to double broker or steal a load.
This innovative defense against scammers isn’t working against the scammers. Please repeal these requirements that are punishing new carriers by not giving them opportunity, and punish well aged authorities by identity theft.
In our study, the requirement of inspections is helpful at slowing down scammers, however a known issue with Carrier 411 and Carrier Watch systems does not always pull inspection information from SAFER. Compliance departments should allow a carrier to provide proof of inspection by uploading an inspection report during setup just like a W9 in setup if 411 and Watch don’t show an inspection but the carrier insists they have one. In the end, scammer are still needing to steal carrier authorities to book loads with brokers who have this requirement but the negative impact on real carriers is fairly reduced and can be completely overcome for real carriers who actually meet the requirement (but not reflected in your screening service) with a little flexibility.
We are all for stopping the scammers, but all these requirements have done is damage real carriers reputation of their authority is stolen, or boxed out new carriers who are legitimate in their operations.
The only winner in these policies is the scammer who is still circumventing your defenses and double brokering or stealing cargo at higher rates than ever.
We are working in conjunction with member carriers and member brokers with the National Owner Operators Association to develop PRACTICAL defenses against scammers for brokers that don’t punish legitimate carriers. We will be posting advice on our website to help the COMMUNITY resolve the scammer issue jointly.

2023.05.28 13:50 Cool_ball999 Awaken 19/ a prey's pride

[First]() [Prev]()
This took an unbearable amount of time, sorry, I was busy with tests and you know… school stuff, it's not looking good for my writing, I pretty much only have free time with my phone for only 2 hours a day except for weekends. As a compensation for the ridiculous amount of time this chapter took, it's going to be extra long, and have action parts again (kind of) and some gore, enjoy!
—-~----
"What was it again?"
"Schen- i mean Schon"
"Right, what got you here, near the edge and all? It's a nice edge, but still an edge"
"Desperate for work I guess, I assume you're the same?"
Schon… no, Schen… answered as he took a sip out of his drink, it isn't as bad as he thought it would be, it's sweet, and at least it isn't recycled water.
"Kind of, I just work here because… well… my skill set isn't impressive"
"A loader, no? All that work in the cargo bay?"
"Yeah, what does it feel like being an SC?"
"Being a security captain feels…"
Schen took a glance at his tag, hidden beneath his shirt and new uniform, a piece of memory and evidence of who he once was.
"...familiar"
"Oh yeah… aren't you an ex-mil?"
"I am"
"Why did you quit?"
"It's… it got a bit too mu it can ch for me, though i do miss my team, best few people i've ever worked with"
"Good terms?"
"Brothers, live by them, die by them, not literal on the latter of course, but it can happen, too bad we're disbanded now"
"Why?"
"Let's just say they don't wanna work without their favorite captain"
"Oh… Where are they now?"
"Living their best life with their family i hope, least there's nothing to threaten their lives there"
"Why don't you go back to yours?"
"Don't have one, too old to return back home and do nothing, and too old to find a mate, kinda missed my chance back then"
"And you're satisfied with just being an SC in a random cargo ship that visits edge territories?"
"It's still something, besides, i've got more than enough experience for it… hmm… lunch's over, good talk"
"Looks like it is, nice to know you… Schon?"
He nodded in confirmation, and went to pay for his lunch. It was decent, but he'd rather have it stale than having to actually pay, he can't believe he actually missed those stale rations. Perhaps because he was used to it, old habits and preferences are hard to shake off, they said. He went back to his post, just a little room filled with camera monitors with a teeny tiny armory next to it. Genuinely, it looked pathetic next to the military armory he was used to.
But the weapons were familiar, kind of, just lacking the usual stopping power and attachments of the ones he used to have. After the (unfortunate) disbanding of his team and his (honorable) discharge from the military as well as the new (rather stupid if you ask him) identity of Schon, he was desperate for work. It's his fault really, he should've been at home enjoying the rest of his life now that that Schen technically no longer exists.
But the soldier in him wanted to do something, so he did, and now here he is, a simple SC in a cargo ship, which took an unnecessary amount of effort, as apparently the union was still somewhat skittish about the video he broadcasted before he went on the temporary desertion, but now that he knows everything, it doesn't really matter. It isn't bad by any means, but it ain't the military, and the more he worked the more he wished for a pirate attack. He also just missed being together with his team, but alas, they have their own lives, so he had to let them go, though he does have their contact number saved on his personal datapad.
He turned on the only monitor inside his room that isn't used to look through a camera, and looked for anything interesting in the network. Interesting as in any news regarding the 'Goels' and their recent introduction, he had been keeping a close eye on it. He doesn't need to, it isn't his business anymore and if he tried to make it his business again he can expect agents on his tail, but since he was heavily involved anyway, he thought why not as well do it. And it was just fine so far, though he has no clue how the green one, Abel if his memory serves him, turned from a drone to… well… that.
He learned a bit about who humans are, and what humanity was like, before it went away and was 'replaced' by the Goels. And as far as he knows they're dead, like extinct dead, so obviously the appearance of the cheery human male that acted as the Goel ambassador shocked him. He still has no clue now, though his theory as to how essentially boils down to 'ancient civilization fuckery'. And as far as he can tell, there's no problem with that, yet, the discussions were relatively smooth if the news were to be trusted and the council seems to actually starting to trust the Goels, kind of.
He browsed through the tabs and websites, most of which he already read and glossed over.
Trade offer accepted between union and Goels
No surprise there, no man or woman in the council wanted to pass up such a deal.
Military showcase ends in awe, fear, and admirance
He saw the videos on that one, it was impressive.
Goel ambassador visits Caevit palace garden, Godfather was shook
He suppose having such an important guest roaming around your garden can be a bit complicated, so he understands.
Goel ambassador faints during a direct discussion with the council, paramedics clueless
Now that's interesting, and frankly worrying, he didn't get to see the full broadcast yesterday, actually he missed most of it, so he didn't get to see what happened.
"What happened to you?"
He mumbled as he read the article and looked at the pictures and videos of the accident. Unknown cause, immediately escorted, and the sudden silence from the Goels, and it has been for almost half a cycle now. Strange, he looked through the video again, watched how Abel behaved, and noted the many oddities present. He seemed just fine, just giving his presentation to the council as professional as one can be as an ambassador and then suddenly he just… dropped, he thought about exhaustion at first, but the longer he thinks about it the dumber it gets.
No way the current Abel is human, he was explicitly told by him that there are no humans left, so what is it?. He couldn't come up with anything, but kept it in mind as he looked for more info on the current situation. It wasn't long until he realized there's nothing else he can learn and turned off the computer. He looked at the time, and suddenly remembered something vital, alcohol break, he reached down under his desk and took out a bottle, the very same one that he took to the desert planet with him.
No shot glass no problem, he popped the cap off and drink straight from the bottle, not very classy but whatever. He hid it back under the desk and walked out of his office now that he actually remember something actually vital, his men. The security team more precisely, and he's the current captain, someone's had to check on them. He ran into one guard waiting around the cafeteria and greeted them.
"All good?"
"All good, no danger"
"Yet, keep an eye out, and if you can, help anyone in need, being a security isn't just about holding weapons and warding off pirates, you should know that by now"
"Yes sir, sorry"
"Sigh i've worked with trainees that are better than this"
He grumbled as he left to look for another man to inspect. His new subordinates are… a particular group. Some of them take the job seriously, some are a bit more relaxed but still vigilant, but most, like the one he just gave a mouthful to is God awful, improper stance, manners, no incentives, and utterly basic in weapon mastery. He has to cut them some slack, they're just basic security after all, not soldiers, but still. He ran into a more favorable one patrolling the hallway leading to the reactor, he actually knows this one's name, Koern, a Civean, and he couldn't be more glad he actually got a salute from him.
"Greetings, Captain Schon, is there any problem?"
"It's Sche- i mean… yes thank you, and no, there's no problem, just daily inspection"
"I see, how do I do?"
"As usual, very good, keep It up"
"Thank you sir… sir can i ask you something? I've been considering looking for you but now you're here…"
"Sure, i can spare some time"
"Can I request a leave from you sir?"
"I can if there are valid reasons"
"I've requested it to the captain, but all she said is that i should ask you first"
"I see, but what's the reason?"
"Family matter, I have a relative on a planet named Rosan IV, ever heard of it?"
"Isn't that the newly built colony planet?"
"It is, a much better built colony compared to the rest, new union projects and all that stuff, my cousin signed up for it, we've been communicating just fine so far, until a few days ago"
"What happened?"
"I don't know, he just went… silent, i thought okay, maybe he's busy or there's a problem with the communication there, so i just waited, but it has been too long now, usually he sends a message almost daily, now there's nothing"
"I don't think you need to ask for a leave in that case"
"Why?"
"Rosan IV is in the list of destination of this ship, station building material shipping, after this one we should be on the way there"
"Oh thank God, i knew i should've checked the list"
"Well… this is an edge operating ship, you know? In that case, all you'll need is a shore leave on any station there, short but should be enough for you to check in on your cousin"
"That's all i need sir, thank you"
"Of course, now continue your work, we'll be there before you know it"
"Yes sir"
Schen walked away with a little curiosity in his mind, Rosan IV huh? isn't that the planet that's been really silent? He remembered a conversation at the cafeteria, a few people were talking about it. Some talk about how stupid of a project it was, how it was no different than any other colony, a 'gold plated' lie if you will. But most were talking about how it became a 'ghost' of sorts, communications fell, ships that come and go there go missing, a few creepy tales here and there, it was almost a horror story.
He doubted it, such an ambitious project is bound to have some issues, there's a huge price for luxury, and that price is probably hitting right now. Which made him worried a little, a new colony is a gold mine for pirates and raiders, that was probably the price, pirate intervention. But if all goes well, it shouldn't be that bad, no way those ridiculous stories are real…. Maybe.
—-~----
Rana sat down on his padded seat, in his room, in his literal castle, thinking, not about anything in particular, but just thinking. And maybe glossing over his new arm again, to be in awe again, he still doesn't know how the movement is that smooth. Pearl white, shaped just like his other arm, even has the claws, and probably smoother in terms of movements than his actual arm despite being a prosthetic. It has been quite a while since his particular experience on that planet, and the prosthetic is still not showing any issue, any normal prosthetic would break down or need maintenance after this long of a time.
It's also… self repairing? He's not sure if he's hallucinating, but he's pretty sure the arm rebuilt itself after he accidentally bumped it into something hard. A small piece of the outer casing fell off, he didn't pay much attention to it, until it disappeared minutes after when he tried to look at it to see how bad it was. All in all, a new experience, awe inducing and a bit scary, would be really nice too, if it wasn't for-
"Rana"
"AAH! Oh… dad…"
-That, his father.
"It's time to-"
"Look at my arm and pry it open, i know"
"Good, let's-"
"But why?"
"Sigh Rana, we had this conversation before, you know the reasons"
"Well I don't want to care about it!"
"It's for our people…"
"No, it's for yourself! Come on dad! Don't you hear what they said? What did they offer? They gave us everything!"
"No one in this universe, organic or not, is stupid enough to give away vital information and material to someone else they just met, they must be hiding something"
"So they're lying, is that it?"
"Yes, i… we believe so"
"Okay, give me a reason why they're lying"
"That's what a dumb leader would do"
"Oh please, don't act like dad's not just another servant to the matriarch"
"She's your grandma"
"Doesn't change anything dad, and no, i don't like laying on a bed while people i don't know try to pry open my arm"
"Sigh does that mean you don't-"
"No"
"Fine… as you wish… but i hope you can understand"
"I already understand, and i don't like it"
"....."
Rana heard his room's door opening and then closing behind him, and sighed. Life hasn't been the same since he returned, his father has been a lot more serious, he can understand that, it makes sense. But he had been putting him into these weird 'inspections' ; they weren't inspections, they were straight up experiments, to try and pry open his new arm. That was how he discovered the last strange and fascinating thing about it, it can feel pain.
He remembered how everyone in the room froze when he screamed in pain, they were bewildered. It was only when he kicked the person inserting some sort of needle-like thing into the gaps of his prosthetic in the face that they knew what was happening. And yet, knowing what it does, his father still insists they do more of his experiments. It doesn't seem to matter how many anesthetics, painkillers and other treatments have been done, he can still feel the pain, it pops up from time to time, sometimes waking him from his sleep.
It was not something he wants to go through again, even if he's unconscious during the operation. At Least it isn't everyday he gets 'inspected' thanks to someone who dislikes the idea as much as he did. Rana heard his door open again, and smiled knowing who it was.
"Rana? Honey? There you are…"
"Hey mom…"
"Have you eaten yet?"
"Mom, a servant came here an hour ago, bringing the food, of course i did"
"Good, something to help you recover"
"Mom, I'm good, okay?"
"Nonsense…"
She gave him a pat and a scratch on the head, his favorite guilty pleasure. He always feels like he's still a child everytime she does it, and not a grown man, but it would be a total lie to say he doesn't like it.
"You need energy to recover from that"
She tapped his prosthetic.
"It's not like it's gonna grow back…"
"One can hope, it's terrible what happened to you"
"Well, it's okay now, they redeemed themselves"
"Hmph… no one's hurting my boy, no one, not even a sentient AI from a different era of the universe"
"Thanks mom… But i don't think you're fit enough to fight Cain"
"I'll beat him with my motherly aura, the thing he's missing, anyway, how's your arm, darling?"
"It's fine… still hurts sometimes"
"Sigh if only your father would listen, him and his ridiculous experiments, what's in that arm anyway?"
"Technology used by a race that defied time…"
"Doesn't justify him doing those things to you… he's been here, doesn't he?"
"He just left"
"Hmm…. You two had a talk?"
"He's just here to… you know what he does"
"Well glad to know he doesn't get through with it today, alright sweetie, just here to check up on you"
"Mom, i'm not a boy anymore"
"A boy you are not, you are a grown man, but my boy you are, and always will be, see you tomorrow honey"
"Stay safe"
"Always…"
Well that doesn't last long, Rana thought as his mother left the room, that's one of the issues they had since forever, she is always very busy. Because unlike father she's not the type to just sit behind a desk and give out orders, she's a lot more active, and caring at that. His father is the supreme general, sure, but Rana always looked up to her more, and her job as the health minister. She's always on a trip to visit hospitals all around the union and other things he doesn't know much about. And of course, unlike his father, that means she's not always home, shame.
Rana thought about it, and suddenly remembered his interaction with Lnaia that night when he first woke up to discover his arm missing. He never told it to her, but the reason she felt familiar is that both her and his mother have the same job, making sure of people's wellbeing. He thought maybe she would know, but maybe not everyone knows that the current Qrid health minister is married to the supreme general, it isn't exactly a super popular thing.
Sometimes Rana gets reminded of who his parents were everytime he looks at any news regarding the Goels, about Cain and Abel. Just how unironically similiar they are, to be so far apart in mindset and goals and yet so close to each other through love… well… atleast Cain and Abel did, he's not so sure about his parents, not anymore.
—-~----
Faen sat in his office, stressed out of his mind, everything has been a mess, Abel's incident at the councillor station, the countless interviews asking for his opinion, it was, somehow, getting a bit too much. Faen expected everything, but Abel passing out in the middle of a speech for no reason is not one of them, and for the Goels to go completely silent after, just what in the world is happening?. He doesn't like it, he doesn't like being out of control, out of the know, not knowing anything makes him uncomfortable, knowing that it can decide the fate of his kind made it near unbearable.
He founds himself scratching his own desk with his claws from all the stress, he stopped, and sighed as he brushed off the wood chips. Maybe he should he take his medications again, he opened a drawer on his desk and took out a small plastic container with labels on it, a medication for high blood pressure, he took one pill and set it back inside the drawer.
"Still on your meds, love?"
A voice came out of nowhere, it trigerred his instinct to reach for the concealed handgun next to him, but as he aimed towards whoever's in front of him, he realized it was a mistake.
"Yana…"
"Still as nimble as i remember, though you got a bit stiff on the arms there"
"I thought you already left…"
"Come on Faen, both you and i know i wouldn't leave without at least saying goodbye to you"
"Is that all you're here for?"
He said as he put the gun away, coming back to a more calm demeanor.
"Of course not, i'm here to check up on our son, and talk to you"
He raised his eyebrow a bit at that.
"Rare…"
"Not as rare as you making a call to me, we need to talk Faen"
"About?..."
"Sometimes i wonder if you take all the medicine i prescribed for you…of course about our son!"
"Sigh is this about-"
"Yes! What makes you think it's a good idea to probe our son like he's some sort of foreign creature?"
"I've taken every precaution, he's been given anesthetics and-"
"Oh i don't care, it's not about how bad of a pain he's experiencing, or how subdued it is so it's not dangerous, this is about him experiencing it in the first place! that's not supposed to happen!"
"Yana, please, we have the best doctors working on him"
"Well I don't believe you…"
"Why?"
"Because I'm the health minister and I need to see their license, and if I don't… i see them as unqualified as to even hold a needle, but i'm here not to hear you say what or… how you do this, we've been there, it doesn't matter… he's still our son and i disagree, what i want to know is why"
Faen massaged his forehead out of annoyance.
"Because-"
"You're scared…. I know"
"What?"
"You're scared of the Goels, of their ways"
"Anyone would"
"I know… and you're trying to do something about it…"
She sat down on the chair right in front of his desk, it was preserved for only other generals and the matriarch herself, incase of a private meeting, her sitting there is technically illegal.
"....But does that change anything? Change the fact that they offer help?"
"You can't trust anyone just like that, they're hiding something"
"And you can't just distrust them for the same reason, it goes both ways, even if they are, is that really a reason for you to dissect our son?"
"It's just his arm"
"So what? You're trying to take it off and leave him armless?"
"It's not the only prosthetic in the world"
"And yet the finest! You have to admit it, they are superior in many ways, they are thousands of years ahead of us, I have never seen such a sophisticated prosthetic before, you know me, this is my field, and that thing on him makes our best prosthetic look ancient!"
"But then what am I supposed to do? Do nothing? Sit there as those things do whatever they want to us? to the union?"
"No! you work with them… i heard what you two were fighting about, i was outside, about why the Goels have no reason to lie, and i agree with him"
"Then what?"
"Here's the thing Faen, there's a difference between being exploited, and working together… they're looking forward to working with you, giving the union their technology and helping it improve… you on the other hand… want to exploit them, learn what they can do and how they did it and then see if you can do it for yourself, i get the point, but why would you steal something that is given out for free?"
"Do I really have to say this again? It's because-"
"Pride… It's because of pride… looks like the old sentiment that caused the great war all those years ago are still here… shame, i thought we would be better as a species, turns out we never change, what a disappointment"
She uttered those last words with bitterness and a flat face, and left the room without another word, she didn't look back, or say goodbye as she is probably leaving, as if she doesn't care anymore. Faen was half stunned, half angry at what she said, that was just her assumption, he reasoned to himself. But now he can't stop thinking about it, as much as he tries to deny it, is that really him? Is that what she thinks of him? A disappointment?

2023.05.28 11:59 MinFootspace A "realistic" racetrack for Switzerland that I designed many years back

After the dramatic 1955 Le Mans 24h race F1 GP, Switzerland decided to ban closed-circuit races. As a result, no racetrack has ever been built here, except for a small, 1350 meter long one that has hosted races as an exception to the general ban. This track is now mostly used as a formation center and can be rented a few times a year by trackday clubs. But its size and minimalistic infrastructure make in unsuitable for serious competition anyway.
Since then, a few projects have been given a try here and there. But due to the scarcity of land in such a small country, the political context and the power of environment defense associations, none has even gone much further than the drawing board.
My attempt here is to design a track that would tick, not all boxes, but the most. It would still be unfeasible due to the mentioned hurdles, but I think it's about as close to feasibility as it could ever get.
It is built next to an air force base in order to group noisy infrastructure together, and as far as possible from the next residential areas. It is a medium-sized track, aimed at competition up to the European level, track days, industrial tests, formation etc, and comes with all the infrastructure you'd expect from a modern track. Including formation and conference rooms, media center, 1st aid medical facility, modern race control room, and boxes of international standard.
The proximity with the air base also offers best possible access via private jets, but also cargo planes if need be. Access from the motorway couldn't be closer either.
(I published this track in 2009 on the TenTenths.com forum. Dug it out not long ago)

Im currently looking at a new truck I drive a lifted ford right now but I’m ready for something new. What would you guys toss on a 2500 with a 6.7l Cummins if you could put anything on it and didn’t have a budget restriction what would you do to really trick it out.
I’m obviously not going to do everything and I won’t be hauling anything massive with it but I want to hear from you ram experts. My ford experience has been….problematic at best
So far I know I want to do the basics like lift, bed cover, running boards but idk what else
