I'm fully enjoying Season 20 due to the World All-Stars premise (winners and finalists). Kudos to Top Chef in pulling this season together. Thus, it's surprising the number of comments describing this season as boring. I can imagine some potential reasons for this:

1. Include the winner from last season? IMO, Season 20 includes the best contestants from across the world. Absolutely yes, a US TC winner needs to compete in this format. Do past winners see more downside if he/she doesn't win or, at a minimum, reach the finals? Would I rather see a more statistically dominate TC US winner compete instead of Buddha? Probably, but most likely they were asked and declined. Thank you Buddha for representing as a US TC winner.
2. Buddha is too dominate? A lot of folks suggest the winner as fait accompli. Knowing nothing about the non-US contestants, I never adopted this view. Yes it's clear Buddha is the favorite in the finale. However, what matters is the final meal, not the cumulative wins throughout the season. Look at the #8 seed Miami Heat playing in the NBA finals. Yes, they probably won't win but that was true against the Bucks, Knicks (maybe), and Celtics.
3. However, I think the biggest reason is the international component itself.
   1. In previous seasons, the chefs were less of a mystery. You had someone that knew Southern flavors and cooking, someone that was farm to table, molecular gastronomy, etc. If not the food style, we could identify with their city (New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Dallas, etc). That's not the case with the international competition. France gets an asterisk as ~90%+? of the contestants mention their background in French techniques at some point during the season.
   2. It made it more difficult to identify who you liked. I feel an important component of dislike is the contrast to a contestant one likes. Thus, boring: I don't really care who wins and for some reason I can't put a finger on, I prefer that contestant X does not win.
   3. Keeping the ~60 minute episode duration exacerbated the sub points above due to this new "confusion".

For the next World All-Stars, you can't really do anything about points #1 and #2, but I think there is something you can do about point #3. Create a First Chance Kitchen for contestants to compete from each country. Make the challenge educational about their country, e.g. are potatoes The Starch in Poland or is it just Sylwia's personal love of potatoes? What's the equivalent of a Thai hamburger or hotdog? In addition to learning about the country we get to know the contestant. A First Chance Kitchen hack would really help to identify the contestant(s) one likes and lessen the international confusion aspect.

Hi everyone, this is Abby and I'm always on the go. Today I want to share with you my amazing day-trip to San Diego on May 26-27. I stayed at Lucky D's Hostel, which is a cozy and friendly place in the heart of downtown. The staff were very helpful and gave me some tips on what to see and do in the city. The hostel also has a lot of activities and events for guests, such as pub crawls, karaoke nights, and free breakfast.

The first night, I met Denny, a charming Italian guy who was also staying at the hostel. He offered to show me around San Diego and I gladly accepted. We walked along the waterfront, visited the USS Midway Museum, and enjoyed the sunset at Coronado Beach. He was very funny and charming, and we had a lot in common. He told me he was traveling around the US for a year and that San Diego was his favorite city so far.

The next day, we decided to check out the Station Tavern, a popular spot for locals and travelers alike. It's a former trolley station that has been converted into a cozy pub with a large outdoor patio. They have a great selection of beers and cocktails, and their food is delicious. I ordered the burger with fries and Denny had the chicken sandwich with salad. We shared some onion rings and nachos as well. The portions were generous and the flavors were amazing.

We also met some other people at the Station Tavern, who were very friendly and welcoming. They told us some stories about San Diego and gave us some recommendations for places to go. We had a lot of fun chatting with them and playing some games. The atmosphere was very relaxed and lively.

After a few hours at the Station Tavern, we decided to head back to the hostel. We exchanged phone numbers and hugged goodbye. He said he was leaving for Los Angeles the next day and that he hoped to see me again someday. I thanked him for showing me around San Diego and wished him all the best.

I had a wonderful time in San Diego and I'm so glad I met Denny. He made my trip more memorable and enjoyable. San Diego is a beautiful city with a lot to offer, and I would love to come back someday. And this is Abby, and I'm always on the go.

Hey San Diego,
I’m thinking of hosting a bunch of get togethers for an organization (20+ people). Some are going to be in the evening at bars/restaurants and some are gonna be in the morning in coffee shops.
I do have a couple of constraints:

• under 21s should be allowed in, as I want university students to be able to join (obviously not relevant for the coffee shop events)
• Close to transit (short walk from a bus or trolley stop)
• Should accommodate large groups (no sit down place, order food and drinks at the bar). Brewery with food truck is fine too.

Does anyone have any suggestions? L’Estats and Quartyard are already on my radar, although I’m uncertain about Quartyard’s under 21 policy.
As a side note: does anyone know what the deal with bars is? Most of them don’t even let under 21 year olds in even though they serve non-alcoholic drinks. Is this just for their convenience (so that they don’t have to check ids on every drink order) or is there a law/licensing issue that prevents them from letting young adults in?

If you take the monthly end user sales for BEV in Q1, you get around 11/month. Which is growth, plain and simple, and you pump that up even the slightest.. we could possibly start seeing 25/month by Q4. That's $35m right there.
The FCEV orders are going at a 39/month clip, throw in a little FOMO after production begins and it's easy to believe that # could go up. another 40 in June and that gets order book to around 220 as they enter production.. 125 produced and sold in q4 should be the guidance goal, leaves some room to the downside and upside.
75 BEV + 125 FCEV = a $100m quarter, folks. PLUG trades around 25x most recent quarter rev.. 25x100 = 2.5b cap. very hard to believe that the company wont be trading at that level, if it does survive, sometime between Q3 report EOY and Q4 report early next year.
I honestly don't understand why the company is not pushing these numbers because it's merely just putting known BEV sales (and sales growth) together with growing firm/hard FCEV orders + the fact that despite all woes, serial production still starting next month. I do understand company is held to high bar (externally and internally) when it comes to these sort of forward-looking statements.. but, still, they have the sales & orders in hand to make a statement like that. It would make stock price shoot up as well so that fact makes it all the more strange that they don't just say it to get that needed share price pump.
What do we get instead? We get robo articles about reverse split that's 300 days away.. but not the giant rev growth that the numbers within the same talk alluded to?? So, so strange. Here I am, watching Faraday up 50+% off bottom because they're about to finally release something, even though in every comparable category they're in worse shape than Nikola (from product, product market, partnerships, cash, production, even probability of delistment/reverse split). Beyond obvious to me now that something very negative, fraudulent, manipulative is/has been attacking the company from the outside. Those robo articles dominating narrative post-CEO chat were sort of the last straw for me.. I'm not one to believe in that sort of tinfoil hat BS, I always want to believe we're better than that as a society, but the writing is on the wall at this point. I don't know if it's because they're so far ahead of their competitors, O&G, connected short sellers or what.. but someone/multiple someones working very hard to destroy company before FCEV deliveries make it out the door. Which, btw, feel as though they can not be stopped at this point. If the robo articles were the last straw in getting me royally upset.. Lohscheller reiterating serial production in one month was what locked me in as a believer. Truth be told, part of me went into talk dreading what seemed like the inevitable "cash constraints are forcing back production start." BUT NO, the doom & gloom within me was stomped out for (hopefully) good.
I'm almost to the point where I'd grab a big sign and march around my downtown area begging anyone who cared about climate change to pick up their smart phone, hop on whatever app they've got and throw $5-$10 dollars at it. The company is meaningful. The company is important. It is the most meaningful & important company at these prices since Enphase was tickling a $60m market cap! If you actually care about what they're doing.. you need to hold, you need to keep adding and you need to tell others to do so. Hell, I've started posting in truckers to try and push product! Started a twitter to push, although I also post about other green tech.. It's to the point where we need to be actively doing whatever we can to help them make it over this last hump. It very well could be a lost cause.. but even if that is what happens, at least I (plus some family and friends I've told to buy since sub-$1) lost money on something I not only believed in, but actually knew was good and did my part fighting against the blatant corruption that they're up against now.
Nikola has gone from the black knight to the white knight and he's off his horse, wounded af and weaponless.. we must remain supportive. Support the company & the product and the share price will one day reflect that accurately. I honestly believe that, but then I'm an eternal optimist. If Nikola can change from rolling truck downhill to pump price to a company that holds themselves so rigorously accountable that will not even give realistic positive guidance that would pump stock.. it's my belief that they can also overcome the unfair market they find themselves at the mercy of.

Mistakes

On 15th May 2023, I was filming part 1 Q&A video of 24th May Q&A. 24th May Q&A video was filmed on 15th May 2023 because got many many questions. So I divide into different days different parts. On 15th May 2023, I made a big mistake. The place where I film, sometimes the NEA, they will pour the stupid bottle on the floor, got a lot of stupid idiot mosquitos then come to my place. That time I didn't bring this call the mosquito thing, the insect, the one call what. That time 15th May 2023, I never bring this thing. So after that, I put this thing (shieldtox) everyday inside my bag. Because sometimes I film the Q&A here, the NEA. I don't understand why they want to put the bottle of mosquitos. Then the mosquito fly here, I feel very frustrated. So after that, I tell myself, every-time I film Q&A, I must put this one inside my bag. So on 15th May 2023, I forgot to bring this. Then what happen ? A lot of mosquitos fly here fly there very dulan. As I want to hit the mosquitos, I accidentally hit the tripod stand. The tripod stand was with the phone. The tripod stand with the phone dropped down on the floor. Lucky the phone never spoil. If the phone spoil then honggan already. Because the phone I need to use for Q&A. So this was a fucking fucking big mistake that shouldn't have happened.
On 20th May 2023 (Saturday), my fans that time he message me say he want to treat me KFC. He order KFC to send to my house. That time I was seeing a doctor at Polyclinic. I was going for the X-Ray. After the X-Ray, I was at this void deck writing the 4D/Toto, then my this fan message me, going to order the KFC to deliver to my house. So I see the delivery time, its around 1.26pm. I was thinking I can reach home early by 1.10pm. So by 1.10pm, I can reach home already. That time my fan got tell me to tell my family/my parents. That time I never tell, I thought I can reach home early. Because if I tell my parents my fan want to treat me KFC, my parents will be a bit suspicious because my parents don't trust. Even that time I went out with Eddy Low, I have to tell my parents that this is my working colleague. Because they don't believe. Because you know I got a lot of haters. So my parents they don't trust people. They will felt that this is a guy. This guy is a hater. Trying to pretend to be my fans. They don't trust. I have to say he is a working colleague. So I made a mistake. I never go and call my parents say got food delivery coming. So that time when I reach home around 1.10pm. Just nice. Few minutes ago, the food delivery guy just left and my parents thought order the wrong one then they tell the delivery man they never order KFC. Then the delivery man go off then I was shocked. The delivery man call my fan. My fan say the address never wrong so ask the delivery man to return. But of course the delivery man have to go to other places to send first. So as a result, wait more than 30 minutes and I apologize to the delivery man. So its a big mistake because I should have call my parents on the phone when I was writing 4D/Toto that there is a delivery man coming but didn't. Luckily the delivery man got return but wasting a lot of time. So this is a mistake that shouldnt have happened.
The next mistake I make on 21st May 2023, I didn't go and check my notifications with the PLRD. Monday night, I cannot work because I got two notifications. Then after that I got to call the agency the next morning. Total got 2 agencies still holding my name. So I called the 2 agencies to cancel my notifications. What happened ? 24th night. Supposed to can work already. Then I go to look for adhoc jobs in the security whatsapp group. Then the agency check say I got two notifications. I was shocked. Then the next day, I call the agencies. Both agencies they forget to cancel. You see on the 23th May, I call them. The notifications in order to cancel need to wait for 24 hours later. So on Wednesday morning, I should have called the PLRD to check with them whether my notifications have been cancelled or not but I didn't. I think cannot be two agencies both also forgot to cancel. Confirm got one agency will cancel one. In the end, both also forget. Its a mistake that shouldn't have happened. When you work security officeguard, one person can only maximum two notifications. That means my name if lets say got two agencies, you cannot go and work adhoc job. Because your name got two agencies already. So you need to take out one of the agencies or best if you take out both agencies, the notifications so that your name is not under them then you go and work adhoc job. Ah then only you can work.
It was on the 25th May 2023, when I go to the toilet at home, while carrying the phone and the notebook, my notebook/datebook and the YouTube photo slideshow. The photo slideshow for example, I write the NXT champion Kurt Tay take selfie blah blah. That is called the photo slideshow book. I use the color ink pen to write the words. For example, the almighty WWE champion Kurt Tay take photo with fans. That is called the photo slideshow book. So this book and the date book, I accidentally drop inside the toilet bowl. Its a mistake that shouldnt have happened.
I made another mistake. It was on the 25th May 2023. 24th May 2023, my wife was off. When my wife was off day, its a bit hard for me to do the wrestling pose because she at home. She see me do the wrestling pose, she don't like. But however, 25th May 2023, my wife was working and I after eating, I forgot to do the wrestling pose because I was wearing the Almighty Bobby Lashley T-shirt but I forgot to do the Bobby Lashley wrestling pose after eating so this is also a mistake.

In a few days it will be time for my insurance company to pay out my stolen truck. What can I use to make the number more favorable to me since they are in the business of paying as little as possible? Especially with the still inflated used car market. In my late 30s, I hosted an exchange student, "Elsa". Partly to be sure I didn't want a kid. Here's how it went:
I wanted to do the summer program, but they talked me into 11 months. I lived across the street from the high school, which was convenient. My husband was going to be abroad for work for most of it, and I'm a former teacher and principal. (DINKER- Retired at 38.)
It was exactly as I thought.
My husband was the Good Cop/Disneyland Dad who swooped in from work with dad jokes or to take us fun places or to cook dinner and do his usual chores, but he wasn't around to do much of the parenting, and he often was too lazy to enforce the rules (paying for her latte, when she was supposed to pay for it- the $ guidelines are very strict in the exchange program), not checking if her chores were done, etc.
So, I had to be "the bad cop" who followed through with daily drudgery of parenting- teaching her she has to carry her ID at all times, not bringing it to her at school when she called saying she forgot it again, taking her to doctor appointments, arranging carpooling and outings, learning who her friends were, hosting her birthday party, figuring out she was lying when she said her teacher lost her assignment, communicating with her parents and the exchange liason meetings, following the parenting expectations for the exchange program, help her figure out her US clothing sizes, register her for school, etc.
None of my friends cared to ask about me anymore, only they asked about her and my husband (who was abroad). I put a pink rinse in my hair at the time, and looking back, I think maybe it was to get some attention back on myself. Everyone mentioned my pink hair.
And she hated her mom and worshipped her Disneyland Dad who gave her free reign with his credit card- every 2 weeks she spent $500+ at the mall, with her US friend who had an actual job and had to pay her own stuff. (Also- her dad had cheated on her mom, causing their divorce, and lives with his mistress, but kept a flat so ). I had to cajole her into sending her mom a birthday card. Her poor regard for her mom really bothered me.
Elsa lied all the time, even about trivial things. In her country she has used public transportation solo since age 8, so if her mom tried to give her a consequence for misbehaving, she would get on the train and go to her dad's house.
Elsa's divorced parents didn't communicate with each other, so they believed her lies. We were watching Mrs.Doubtfire, and for the first time she wasn't on her phone- she was actually smiling and enjoying the movie- and I asked her if it was because she tricked her divorced parents like the kids do in the movie, and she just had a guilty smile.
Elsa told me I'm the first person who ever followed through and made sure she did everything she said she would do. She said it was an adjustment for her, but it seemed she kind of liked the structure and consistency I provided.
I took her to Hawaii to vacation with my mom and I, and my husband and I took her on a road trip up the CA coast, and we had a pool she loved, she loved my convertible, and I took her to amusement parks, to Hollywood/LA, sports games, hiking, whale/dolphin Watching (her favorite animal is dolphin), etc. The Exchange Liason said I was the best and shared that the other host families were struggling because their kids didn't like the exchange kids getting all the attention.
Since age 8, she's lived one week with her mom, and the next week with her dad and she hates that custody arrangement. It was clear that her mom did the Parenting and her dad spoiled her and took her on annual lavish vacation. But she hated the dad's mistress, and when Elsa left on exchange, the dad wasted no time getting rid of his flat and moving in with the Mistress. This upset Elsa, but she could never share her feelings with her dad.
She loved our house at the beach, our CA weather (and winter daylight), living in one home instead of switching every week, and my cooking.
Does Elsa want kids?
Elsa had requested a host family without kids. (That's us!) She spends a week at her Grandma's every summer with her cousins, and by the end she hates being around those little kids. But she advised that she does want to have one or two kids. I asked why, and she had a hard time explaining it (she was 17), and it sounded like she wants a Mini Me, a child of her own. When I asked her about taking care of the baby when it's sick and stating up all night, etc. And she just shrugged.
We were duped: We chose Elsa from the application pool, because she said she was Outdoorsy and loves the beach, wanted to go to museums, liked travel, and wanted to improve her English.
Besides swimming in the pool, Elsa is Far From Outdoorsy! She can't ride a bike, she won't step on sand, and she refused to go in any museums (she'd wait outside as we went in) or go hiking. Elsa is ftom a country where they say babies are "born with skis on", and Elsa doesn't ski.
Her mom had been on exchange in the 80s, and has a job with Microsoft where she speaks English all day, and I've video-chatted with the Mom and she speaks nearly perfect English (for example, far better than the Germans when I lived there, although Elsa and parents aren't German). (I have a teaching certification in language acquisition, so I have a better understanding than most people.) Elsa's family never hosted a student in "exchange".Americans were always troubled upon hearing that I didn't have a kid living on exchange with Elsa's family. Elsa's mom loved her exchange and her mom still has her cowboy boots, insists on an American clothes Dryer in her flat, and is in touch with her Texas "Mom and Dad".
We also learned that Elsa's family owns a home in Florida and she Vacatons there every year, which is likely why she didn't have to learn how our stores, sales tax, etc worked, like tge rest of the exchange kids did. (I also worked in law enforcement, so I noticed all the details that weren't adding up, and Elsa was frustrated tgat I caught her in lies all the time.)
Americans all assumed Elsa was American. They didn't hear any accent. We were never given photos of her before we chose her, but she has green eyes like my husband and I (only 2% of Americans have green eyes, lol), and the same hair color as me, so people were in shock when they were told she's not our kid. Elsa and us, we all found it amusing.
How it Ended: The exchange program rule was that the kids had to participate in a sport or activity outside of school, because American high school kids are very busy with jobs/sports and Exchange kids find it hard to make friends. Despite being very outgoing and social, This was true for Elsa.
My friend asked Elsa how her activities were going and I heard Elsa say that she quit them.
(Also, despite all the amazing trips, Elsa was mad that I didn't take her to San Francisco yet, and tgat I didn't let her skip school to go to Disneyland with an exchange student who was finishing her exchange early.)
There were some other things that I knew the other exchange kids were doing (things that the kids signed and pledged to do in the exchange contract), like cook a meal from their country, celebrate a holiday from your country with your host family, etc. And after 6 months and her national holiday passed, Elsa had never done any of it.
Elsa was annoyed at me for catching her in a lie about where she was, and advised that she just wants to be my "roommate". She wants me to cook, clean,provide room and board (her own bedroom with private bath in our million dollar beach house), but not be concerned with where she is or what she does.
I advised that what she is describing is the University international student program- but she would have roommates AND have to pay Tuition, room, board, and cook and clean for herself. Of course, she isn't interested in that.
So, I told Elsa to ask her one friend at school if she could live with them, because I'm going to rent out her room, since she gave me the idea about how much better roommate life is than the exchange.
When the time came to move out, after 6 months, Elsa didn't want to go. This new situation was atypical and she would share a room and a small house with 4 other kids and their parents, and they don't cook, lol.
It was a drama to get her to go.
My opinion: The way Elsa treated her own parents is the main reason that validated my choice to remain childfree by choice.
I don't believe in year-long exchangestudent to the US, for many reasons, unless it is someone from a disadvantaged country who speaks little English- of the 14 students in our group- there was only 1 kid tgat was like that and he really did benefit from the long exchange, and he really did suffer culture shock, and he really was very grateful for all he was provided for a year. Just do the summer one if you want, although some of my teacher friends have terrible stories about those, too.
Elsa's older half-brother (he's my age) was correct. He had found out that Elsa's host family was a military Colonel and a retired School Principal, and he told her that she'd never make it. He was correct!

Introduction

While being humorously "America junior" Canada has remained distinct in many respects, with its competition policy being arguably one of the starkest difference not just with the United States, but any other major economy. While remaining firmly on a more relaxed side when it comes to competition enforcement, Canada has take a step further, explicitly allowing greater market concentration in the name of market efficiency through the so-called "efficiencies defence" clause in the Competition Act.
Moreover, Canada trails many other developed countries when it comes its institutional design. Unlike other jurisdictions, such as the European Union, Canada is a highly judiciary-centred model, where even the enforcement body - Canada's Competition Bureau - first has to prove there's a formidable threat to competition, brining the matter the quasi-judicial Competition Appeal Tribunal, rather than act unilaterally, akin to the European Commission.
However, despite having CAT in place, the scope for private enforcement and complaints to the Tribunal has been pretty limited, which combined with a heavily restrained and underfunded enforcement agency made it Canada's competition regime to be arguably the most tolerant when it comes market concentration among the industrialised economies.

Taking competition off the leach

Following extensive consultations with stakeholders, finalised through an unanticipated round of bilateral talks with provincial and territorial governments, Ottawa is "releasing" the nation's competition enforcement institutions - a policy but at the centre of Canada's Fall Economic Update 2023. Namely, the Competition Bureau is being removed from under the jurisdiction of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada - previously Industry Canada - and granted full operational independence from the Government of Canada.
Aiming to give the CB real capacity to act on its own, a new funding mechanism is being introduced: in addition to direct funding from Ottawa, the House of Commons also gains right to order the Government of Canada to expand funding through a simply majority vote, including as component of a private member's bill or acting on upon recommendations of theStanding Committee on Industry and Technology (INDU).
Additionally, the Commissioner of Competition - the person leading the CB - is set to be reposing to INDU and the Parliament, directly bypassing the executive brach, with any changes to the position to be approved by the House at the same manner of the Privacy Commissioner. Notably, the Commissioner is being granted the right to sponsor amendments to the Competition Act that regulates CB's activities every parliament, including re-introducing changes that could not be passed due to the House being dissolved.
Under its newfound powers, the Competition Bureau also obtains partially adjudicative role, as opposed to a strictly investigative one. Namely, CB no longer has to bring their decision under the consideration of the Competition Appeal Tribunal, so long the opposed party reforms from contusing the decision. For its part, CAT is set to be the final decision-maker when it comes to any process relating to competition matters, including mergers and acquisitions, whenever there's a contradiction between the judgement made by the Bureau and the opposite party. Under the agreement with the provinces, CAT is set to be expanded on a two track-basis. First, the Tribunal is expanded to include an independent representative from each provinces, territory, and the Government of Canada - all appointed through a confirmatory vote in their respective legislatures every 5 years, aiming to achieve the greater possible degree of independence for the Tribunal, with one judicial member appointed from each provincial and territorial bar association, with the Chairman having no special powers, apart from nominal representation in the CAT.

Levelling the Playing Field

The Government of Canada is set to follow though with the proposals of the Competition Bureau as it relates to amending the Competition Act, making all the adjustments recommend, with a notable exception of the Efficiencies Defence.
While not removing the clause completely from the Act, the government is restricting its use to solely to export-oriented companies, namely where over 60 per cent of the its revenue comes to exported products sold outside Canada. Moreover, efficiencies defence is set to be non-applicable whenever there's a possibly of creating a gatekeeper, capable in the long-run to support the creation of new market barriers to entry, defined as a player with more than 20 per cent of sales, including those made in Canada through importing products.
Unlike recommend, rather than allowing for CB to commission market studies, this power is being grated to the newly created Competition & Markets Commission of Canada (CMCC) comprised of the Chairman of the Competition Appeal Tribunal, Head Commissioner of the Competition Bureau, as well as provincial appointed a provincial, territorial, and federal consumer protection authority is set to set direction for the CMC. Being an intergovernmental agency, whose funded and responsible to the Parliament, CMCC aims to provide better policy diffusion between consumer protection - traditionally a provincial matter - and competition considerations, through issuing policy recommendations, as well as commissioning market studies, and playing a central advocacy role to incorporate market entry and concentration concerns thought the public policy space.
CMCC gains power to "red flag" both existing and future legislation and regulations issued by governmental bodies of those may result in increased market concentration, create conditions conducive to future market entry barriers or significantly restrict supply for any purposes other than public health, safety, or existing international commitments, and appeal the matter directly to the CAT or request further investigation by competition watchdog.
Notably, the new version of the Competition Act explicitly equates both monopolies and monopsonies as per their negative impact on the market, emphasising possible repercussions for local markets, be that an employer monopsony collaborations or exerting pressure on suppliers.
Additionally, the Act is set to be automatically reviewed every 5 years, or upon the request of the Commissioner for Competition, included acting on behalf of a provincial consumer protection agency. The Act also openly permits private action and direct legal acton from private actors to the Competition Appeal Tribunal when there's a perceive violation of the terms of the Act, with CAT being able to order the Competition Bureau to pursue further investigation of the matter. Additionally, the concept of a nation-wide "level playing field" is being inserted into the Act, that both the Competition Bureau and the Competition Appeal Tribunal is tasked to protect.

LPF is defined as "regulatory, institutional, legal framework that governments a marketplace an manner that is neutral or more favourable towards new entrants, and where consumer sovereignty is preserved"

Moreover, the Act reverses the roles when it comes to competition enforcement: it's set to be up to the defender to prove their actions shall not result in immediate or long-term lessening of competition, new entry barriers, or consumer harm, with the efficiencies gain remaining restricted to export-oriented companies.
The Act also introduces the so-called "Competition Override" committing the Government of Canada to prioritising competition considerations when conducting any public policy, including problem procurement, government subsidies, and issuing or amending legislation relating to consumer protection or federally regulated industries. The override can be used by the Competition Bureau to bring the Government of Canada to CAT, and directly challenge any decision or regulation, including those issued by other independent agencies on competition grounds. However, this can only be used after an extensive enquiry by the Competition & Markets Commission of Canada has been conducted, unless the Bureau is compelled to act by a prior Tribunal ruling.
The Competition Act also allows for direct federal-provincial cooperation, permitting the Competition Bureau and the CMCC to conduct enquiries on behalf of provincial governments, as well as brining respective public agencies directly into the CAT process, treating legal proceedings launched by provincial consumer protection agencies as essentially equivalent to those pursued by the Competition Bureau.

A Canadian Single Market at last?

However, as one of the most important changes is concerned with last minute changes to the Canadian Free Trade Agreement - an intergovernmental treaty negotiated to eliminated non-tariff barriers to trade between Canada's provinces and territories. The Competition Act is now directly referencing the CFTA as a framework for intergovernmental cooperation when it comes to competition enforcement, grating the Competition Bureau the right to directly petition both Ottawa and the Provinces to support and maintain a "level playing field, through promoting free and unrestricted movement of goods, services, capital, and labour within and across Canada".
The Act also permits unilateral action by the CB through CAT or any other legal means to protect and further develop the free movement of goods, services, persons, and capital, so long those remedies "do not result into changes to the division of powers between the Provinces and the Government of Canada or legal alteration of the Constitution of Act." The Act also exempts restrictions imposed on the grounds of public health safety, or environmental protection from being challenged by the Bureau.
While otherwise possibly interpreted as an infringement of provincial rights, the clause of the Competition Bureau being explicitly allowed to bring federal and provincial governments to courts over breaking either the Level Playing Field provision of violating freedom of movement for goods, services, and capital may provide the necessary incentive to expedite further liberalisation of internal trade. Effectively, allowing the Bureau to become an additional stimulant whenever the institutions outlined in the Canadian Free Trade Agreement fail to deliver.

Impact of Domestic Politics

Canada's has been going through a period of surpassingly sticky inflation, that has been in large part driven by increasing prices of food. My name is Kurtis Karvak. On this day, 6 years ago, I woke up. I awoke to the sound of rushing winds in a bed I don't remember. In a building that was apparently an important radio station. A radio station located in a clearing made by human hands. A clearing on top of the tallest mountain in the Rotfront Mountain Range.
When I woke up that day, I immediately knew.
I was utterly alone.
To start this new log, I have decided to write down about my schedule. This schedule was established sometime earlier in my 13th year.
Approximately 8 months ago, I was told by the man from AEON that I was to complete my school studies down in Rotfront at the Mandelbrot Polytechnische Oberschule. I was confused on this change of schedule because I was doing well already in my personal studies. My mother however recommended it to me saying that it would be a good idea for me to interact with others. She wanted me to make connections with more people rather than just her and coworkers like the man from AEON. I don't trust the man from AEON, he only comes up once every 2 months and is frankly quite rude. However, I was in no position to deny an order, so I accepted it.
However, the schedule quickly proved to be quite the hassle when it was mentioned that I still needed to do my duties as the only gestalt occupant on Rotfront Peak Station 6. This meant that on the 4 days I have to go down to Rotfront for school, I have to somehow quickly make my way back up the mountain to do my tasks as a Radio Station Manager. Walking was out of the question because it would simply take too long to get down. I can't use motor vehicles because it would still take too long and my truck was not going to last a month in such conditions. Also adding the dangers of traversing in an almost constant snowstorm, it is simply a disaster waiting to happen. However a solution was found soon enough.
Connected to the clearing was a tram track that led back out into the snow outside of the station's clearing. When I was questioned on the matter by the man from AEON, we found some interesting information that helped us. Apparently, early in the construction of the radio network on the Rotfront Mountain Range, a series of tram tracks and tram cars were used to transport resources to hasten the construction efforts. The tram system was then meant to be used to keep the individuals manning each station connected. However, as the war became more intense, the majority of the tracks and cars were pulled out and scrapped. The most intact tram track was the one leading up to Rotfront Peak Station 6. My station.
The man from AEON suggested that the tracks leading up to my station will be repaired and that a tram will be discovered for my usage. My contribution to the repairs would be a deduction of the rationmarks I make managing the radio station until the tracks are repaired and a tram found. Within a month, my mother was taking me down to the train station the tram was connected to in Block Sector C. There I would take a city train over to the school.
However, things became even more ludicrous when I was told that I was required to learn how to operate and manage the tram on my own. Apparently they wanted my mother to stay at the radio station to keep it managed and operational until I get back, all because she is an ARAR unit. I was forced to learn quickly how to operate and take car of the tram we were given, less I face losing rationmarks for missing school. As soon as I was confirmed to have knowledge and experience in operating the tram, I was left to my own devices. Everything regarding the tram from its fuel to its mechanical care was left up to me and my mother. I'm thankful that mother is an ARAR.
So after the hurdles, my schedule was soon properly established. I have 3 days off and 4 school days to make up for the extreme nature of my schedule. On school days, I would wake up early to do my morning radio duties before cleaning up for the rest of the day. I will then take the tram on the 1.5 hour journey down to the train station in Block Sector C before getting off and boarding a city train to the school. After that I will return to Block Sector C. If I needed anything like fuel and parts for the tram or food for the station, I will purchase it before heading up the mountain in a 2 hour trip. When I return back to my home, I will have some time to myself before doing my late-day radio duties before taking the rest of the day off for myself and my mother. The days off I use to just focus on radio work and recuperate for the coming school days.
This is my schedule.
It works decently enough.
However, at times I feel as though something goes off when I'm in the tram all alone.
An example would be when I dose off and feel as though I took a wrong turn. I would feel as though I was going down the mountain. Further and further down.
Beneath it.
The snow will be blur by quickly as I traveled up. The rocks and sparse bushes will be passing by every so often. The sky is dark as the storm rages on.
The shadows are still keeping up.
I would be a mile out from the station after heading up the mountain on a full tank. The generator in the back would sputter before the tram slows to a stop, lights flickering before being extinguished. The winds will begin to howl loudly as the snowstorm continues on as it always has.
But the footfalls of something outside would be louder.
The rifle in my hands would become heavy.
I hold my breath.
No movement.
No chaos.

I moved out a year and a half ago. September was 20 years of marriage. She filed for divorce in December.
Since I moved out, I have continued to pay every bill. Everything, down to subscriptions for their streaming services. I have additionally had $1250 bi-weekly for groceries, gas, clothing, entertainment, etc. direct deposited to a debit card that she has. Additionally, I have not said no to any expenses that she brings up for the kids (yearbooks, prom tickets, football camps, etc.).
During this time, I have been living in my mother's spare bedroom. I barely have money for my own gas. I'm mooching off my mother for food and shelter. The only clothes I get are what she finds at yard sales.
Before we married we agreed that she would stay home to homeschool any kids we would have. We had four, and that's what she did. She quit her job about a year into marriage, which is when she was ~6 months pregnant.
Divorce is being held up because of her insistence on two things: 1) "Permanent alimony" (I would have to have a life insurance policy to continue paying her after I die) and 2) The house. She wants her and the (4) kids to live there and me continue to pay for it. I would love for them to be able to continue living there, but after devoting countless hours thinking how that can happen I come up short. It cannot remain in my name, and no bank would put it in hers.
I'm new to this group and don't want my post to be flagged/deleted. I've only stated facts and haven't asked for anything in return... however, I would greatly appreciate all the feedback/insight I can get.
