As the title says, I recently bought a second handed monitor and after connecting it to my PC, I noticed that it had some huge black areas that no matter how much I thinkered with my PC display options or the monitor's options, they would still be there.
I already tried connecting it to other devices but the black areas persists.
If someone could tell me what's going on and the possible solutions I can try, it would be much appreciated it .
Oh and before I forget, the monitor is a BenQ, if that helps

Hi all, hope you are doing well. I have a few questions about a strange situation. This is going to be a long post and I thank you for your patience.
My great grandmother is 95 years old and has been in a nursing home for two years now. She was originally in temporary rehab after a fall, but after she was discharged she fell again and is now permanently in the nursing home. The nursing home has not been inspected for two years, and has received a litany of fines and citations over the past several years. I have no control over her care-- my aging grandparents chose which nursing home to put her in. They control her medical appointments and are the only people who regularly see my great grandmother; my father refuses to set foot in the nursing home because he doesn't like it there (nobody does!). I don't see my great grandmother as much as I should; I am a college student trying to finish my undergrad degree while also holding a job, and usually the staff don't like it if I turn up without my grandparents who can confirm that I am, in fact, related to my great grandmother and there to visit her.
My grandparents are struggling in their old age and hardly know how to drive a car, let alone how to keep up with anything medical. When I ask them, or my father, how my great grandmother is doing, they lie to my face and say she's fine or I get wildly different stories from either party. It is impossible to know what condition my great grandmother is in without seeing her and speaking directly to whatever nurses or doctors are treating her (but of course my grandparents can't keep up with who these nurses and doctors are, and no one working at the nursing home will tell me anything because of HIPAA laws). My father is equally as clueless, as all of his information as to my great grandmother's condition is coming from my grandparents. My father and my grandparents do not see anything wrong with any of this and genuinely believe that my great grandmother is in good condition.
What I do know is that my great grandmother has deteriorated rapidly since being placed in this nursing home. I know that physical and cognitive deterioration are to be expected when a person is elderly, and I know that my great grandmother is approaching the end of her life, but I want her to at least be comfortable and I feel that something is very, very wrong with this nursing home. Before she was put into care, she was still ambulatory and very independent, displaying barely any cognitive deficits-- she was witty, sharp, able to carry a conversation and able to cook and look after herself. She had only recently stopped driving on her own. Now, she barely eats, has lost tons of weight, appears almost skeletal except for extreme swelling in her legs and feet (this has been a problem for a long time now and nobody has ever seemed to notice it except for me). She no longer walks on her own and spends all her time either in a wheelchair or in her bed. She does not participate in any activities around the nursing home, does not even watch TV. She is barely able to hold a conversation and no longer remembers who most people are or how old she is, and does not even look like the same person that she was 2 years ago. She cannot use the bathroom or bathe herself on her own. I do not know how often she is allowed to take a shower or bath. She is constantly coughing and choking on her own saliva, and has lost several teeth. She has had COVID once and pneumonia at least once-- I suspect she has had it twice, but because of the limited information I'm getting, I have no way of knowing for sure.
She has never had any problems with her eyesight beyond typical vision loss, nothing more than what you'd expect from an aging person. Now, all of a sudden, my father is saying that she has glaucoma. My grandparents took her to an ophthalmologist for some kind of injections that were supposed to help treat the glaucoma-- but I have never heard of injections being used to treat this. I am aware of beta blockers being administered through eyedrops and aware of several different surgical procedures for the treatment of glaucoma, but never heard of injections. She has no history of diabetes, so I know if it is really glaucoma, it's due to her age and not anything else, unless the swelling and fluid retention in her legs is a more systemic issue that is affecting her eye pressure?
Today I was told that the glaucoma is now total blindness, less than a week after the injections being administered. Maybe I'm in denial because of my attachment to my great grandmother but this does not sound like glaucoma to me, and I'm really struggling to get an accurate picture of her condition when my family members are either inept or outright lying to me.
I guess I'm just looking for input, thoughts, opinions, anything. It kills me to know that my great grandmother has lived so long on this earth and gone through so much over the course of her life only to end up suffering in a nursing home with worse living conditions than what you'd see in most prisons, and it kills me to know that I don't really know how bad things are for her because of the way my family members handle information. I desperately want to go and see her but she is almost totally deaf and, apparently, blind as well.
Is there anything I should be suggesting to my family members? Does this sound consistent with glaucoma? Should I be reporting the nursing home? Is there anything that can be done to make my great grandmother more comfortable? When do we as a family need to start looking into hospice care instead of a nursing home?
TL;DR My 95 y/o great grandmother is in a nursing home with a shady track record, my aging grandparents are the ones in charge of her care and they have no idea what's going on and either get confused and tell me inaccurate information or they just straight up lie to me, and I'm just now finding out that allegedly my great grandmother has gone blind from what they're saying is glaucoma.

2023.06.05 01:06 veget8ed Please help, abroad and a friend of a friend thinks I have Lyme Disease and I’m panicking

Hello, I am currently in Spain where I have been in grassy areas (very short grass but nonetheless). I have previously reacted badly to bug bites so I did not think much of several larger lumps on my kegs (which I only noticed today). I have been in a position of sitting on a slope for many hours so kept my legs crossed or folded, in high heat for long periods of time, which I presumed aggravated them which is why they appeared worsened or were feeling more itchy.
When I got back to where I am staying, I took pictures to send to a friend as I was complaining of discomfort, and realised they had become much much larger and started to worry (one takes up nearly all the back of my thigh). I sent the photos to my friend, who was out drinking with her friends (whom I don’t know) and got a voice note in return from one of those friends saying “yeah you’ve got Lyme Disease hun” as they previously had it and said it presented the same.
I became very panicked as I don’t know much about Lyme Disease besides the worst, my “bites” are VERY itchy, and uncomfortable, I have no other symptoms and I thought if it was Lyme Disease they weren’t supposed to be itchy, but the friend told me he had no other symptoms and his were itchy also.
My plan is to go to the pharmacy tomorrow to see what they think, and if need be will go to the hospital, I am worried about the language barrier as I’ve seen on this sub doctors can dismiss it quite easily, so even if I am given an all clear tomorrow, I will consult a doctor when I am back in my home country.
I suppose my question is mainly how worried should I be? I travel home Friday morning, but the voice note I received made it seem more urgent, and I was questioning if I needed to immediately go to hospital.
I guess also I just needed some reassurance about it.
Like I said I have ~8 big circular red lumps on my legs, I’ll try and attach pictures. They are VERY itchy, really hard in the middle, and warm to the touch, apart from these marks I have no other symptoms whatsoever.
Thank you in advance for any insight on this, I searched for a sub about it and thought it best to ask the opinion of those who know it.

as the title says, i have a lot of things working in tandem, currently giving me tremendous difficulty to function as well as i want to. long story short, i've known i have DPD for something like five years now. and in a lot of ways i've gotten better (ex: asking people to pick out outfits for me, or constant reassurance i'm not being annoying) but i'm still struggling a lot with being alone.
i have a lot of abandonment issues thanks to a very complicated and toxic childhood, so when i get perceived abandonment from friends declining invitations to hang out, it gets my anxiety going like a jackhammer. (as i type this i'm in my second week of no hang outs and literally feel like i need to throw up.) i expect a lot of emotional support and availability from my friends, which is because i wasn't supported by my own family when i needed it. my own therapist said, "those aren't really fair expectations to put on them. that's more akin to something you expect of your spouse or life partner when you start a family with them."
which brings in the last piece -- i'm asexual so the prospect of finding someone who wants to treat me like a priority without any sexual reciprocity just sounds unrealistic.
so yeah. i'm in a hell of my brain's own making and i'm getting really tired of how much i hate being alone.

The Cabin overheats while the bonus is active.

Examples:
Sinus-0 > direct hits increase damage by 3% while bonus is active [2% w/o cabin]
Mace > every 40m increases weapon damage increases by 15% [10% w/o cabin]

AC72 > every 100m to current target damage increases by 42% [30% w/o cabin]
Rupture > resistance to all damage types increases by 21% while shooting [15% w/o cabin]
Remedy > 140% more damage depending on the amount of accumulated heat [100% w/o cabin]

M-39 Imp > damage dealt by all machine guns increased by 6.5% [5% w/o cabin]

Not to brag or anything but I've spent the past 5 evenings socializing with other people. Not with 5 different people, of course - my social circle is unfortunately not that big.
These were all hanging-out-in-a-group sort of things, that I was invited to join in on. It was kind of challenging to always be that person that only knew one other person there, but I managed. I'm so glad I resisted the temptation to stay at home/avoid doing things I find unpleasant. I want to be grateful for the social opportunities that are finally presenting themselves to me.
I think I had a lot of awkward/embarassing moments, but I'm trying not to dwell on them and to only focus on the positive. It's crazy how little acts of niceness - like asking me questions, smiling at me, listening to me, hugging me goodbye - mean so much to me.
It's nice to see that I am making tangible progress. It was honestly amazing and surreal to have evening plans for 5 days in a row.
I wonder why socializing can feel so painful and unnatural to me. Is it just my nature or is it a consequence of a life of isolation and all the negative experiences I've made in life? Whatever the reason, I hope it's something I can improve on.
On one of the evenings I met this girl who was an absolute social butterfly. She was so alive, so nice, so charming, so interesting, so pretty and sooo funny. She was only 33, so just a few years older than me, but made me feel like a dumb incompetent little kid. I want her charisma, I want her magnetism, I want to be like her.
I know we tend to just attribute everything to looks on this sub. I'm also sure that being pretty has only helped her in life, but I've met people who were even more conventionally attractive than her that weren't even nearly as charming as her.
Anyway, I really need to put more effort into making new friends and meeting new people. I can't keep on relying on the few connections I have right now.
Kind of a pointless post, I know. This feels like more of a diary entry than anything else but I noticed there was no friday free chat this week. Feel free to share any accomplishments or failures that you've made this week.

i was just out for a walk with my dog who i adopted about 2 months ago (big black lab shepherd mix) who is super reactive on leash but not aggressive (desperately wants to play and can’t contain it) and i don’t know how but his leash came undone (i had even twisted it to double lock it -one of those carabiner types) and he started running at this little dog and nothing happened besides the little one freaking out and its owner picking it up but now i’m having a panic attack about it. i know i made the owner super uncomfortable and apologized so much but i don’t know how it happened. i just feel like i’m afraid to take him on any walk because we live in a very dog populated area and this was just my worst nightmare scenario as a very anxious person and i’m just kinda losing it. it was like 3 minutes into the walk and now i’m back upstairs in my apartment spiraling a little.
i want him to have a good life and bring him on walks and make sure he gets good exercise but it just feels impossible right now. i know the situation was fully my fault so now it’s just going to feed my anxiety
the thing is like i know he’s a really loving dog. loves people. if he’s not on leash he is the calmest dog in a group of dogs. i’m working with a trainer but it just doesn’t seem like enough. i’m just super frustrated and i’m sure it will pass but i’m just so worried whenever we go out.

I've only been carded about a year and a half, and I got off of a 48 at one department and went straight to a vehicle fire with entrapment with my other department. I beat the engine to the scene, and the car was fully involved when I got there. It apparently had lit up right before the 911 call went out so we had no chance of getting there in time, especially being as rural as we are. When I pulled up in my POV, first thing I saw was the pt's head and skull burning and melting outside the passenger window. That is kinda stuck with me.
Got the fire out and waited for the coroner to arrive. The coroner found a depressed skull fracture pre-mortem, and it was oddly comforting to learn he was dead on impact.
Our engine crew/myself had to pop the door and peel him off of the seat. Dragged him out of the car and into the body bag. He kinda fell apart all over us, and even with gloves it was pretty God damn awful. The smell is the worst part. I've been on a few Code 16's that had been laying there for weeks, but never one that was burnt. I won't be eating pork for a while, and I swear I can still smell it.
Anywho, I've had 3 people separately call me and ask if I'm doing alright and I can't explain how much it means to me. I was doing fine, but it made me feel so much better knowing people were thinking about me.

I'm looking for some motivated people who want to get into podcasting.
The podcast will be centered around delving into Retro Media. This includes Games, Anime, Movies, TV shows, even Comics and Manga.
An outline of a basic episode goes something like this. - Host Introductions - Banter - Media Introduction - Basic Histroy of the Media - Personal History with the Media - Reveiw (This section will be split into different portions depending on what we are talking about) -Additional thoughts -Do we recommend or no?
The time we spend with each piece of media will very but at first we will try to record one full episode per month.
Recording times will also vary depending on how much we have to say about the specific media, episodes could range from 45 minutes to 2 hours.
We will share research and hosting responsibilities. This of course means this is not my podcast this is OUR podcast. Changes in episode structure are totally open for discussion.
If you choose to be part of the podcast but only want to participate in episodes based on certain topics that's okay as long as you're motivated and ready to participate.
You will need Discord as that is where most of the communication will be done in between recording.
I'm not expecting anyone to have professional audio equipment but having at least a dedicated microphone is a must for recording, so no headset or laptop microphones for recording. Headset and laptop microphones should be fine for communicating through Discord.
We will be recording our audio separately and submitting it after recording, again you don't need to be a professional and if you have no experience with this I am willing to help you with it.
If you reach out here through a DM I'll invite you to the Discord. No actual recording will take place till at least Mid July but research and writing for the first episode will begin as soon as we have enough willing participants.
We really only need two people but I'd like to have at least four people on the podcast as that will help the conversations flow better and it will be easier to split up the workload.
Lastly I'd like to say that this podcast will be a learning experience for all of us and hopefully we can create something we can be proud of.

I've only started using this browser since May 2022, but I learned about its history and was amazed at how much it changed its UI and how frequently it happened.
Here's all the main versions explained: [Article] 0. Firefox UI UX history · black7375/Firefox-UI-Fix Wiki · GitHub (note: even though this article doesn't say it, the Australis design still has that orange-purple-blue app button for the menu bar).
Personally, I find it difficult to choose between the v4 and Australis designs. The older versions are too cluttered for me, even though I love the Vista theme of v3. I like that v4's tabs still keep their shape when you're not viewing them specifically, but I prefer the curved style of Australis.
I definitely hate the Proton design and everything about it. Everything is way too huge and the floating tabs are a very stupid idea. Photon sits above it for these reasons, but I still dislike Photon's flat and sharp lines.

2023.06.05 01:05 n0blesse-0blige FSD almost unusable on highways

I have always been a heavy user of Autopilot. I drove from California to Connecticut over 6 days and used it 80% of the time on highways. But for the occasional phantom braking, it was extremely useful and was a big stress reliever on long, uninterrupted drives. I got FSD when it became generally available and have since used it on highways and local roads. I have heard on these forums from many who seem to be fans of it and use it regularly. In my own experience, while it does some weird moves occasionally, it's impressive how much it has improved while driving on side streets. But it's another story while driving on highways, so much so that I've almost stopped using it. It has to do with how it handles speed limits.
Connecticut's highways look like something out of Mad Max most times. When speed limit is 65, it feels like 85 is the norm. I usually fix it at 75 and drive in the middle or the right lane, and can still feel everyone zooming past me. That's all fine, until the speed limit changes. At many places, it drops to 55 or even to 45 fairly suddenly. That's when the FSD detects it and drops the speed immediately and quite suddenly. A drop down from 75 to 55 can be quite jarring and 75 to 45 can be positively scary, almost like the phantom braking. Of course, none of this would be a problem if everybody did the same but that's never the case. People don't slow down just because the speed limit drops down (most don't even notice it), they do so only when compelled to do so, like when they come to a steep curve in the road. Now, I can set a speed offset, and I do (about 15% above the limit), but that's no solution because the offset applies at both the higher and the lower speed, so the drop is still quite steep. I have to constantly monitor for this happening and be ready to step on the accelerator suddenly, just so the car coming behind won't ram into me when mine starts slowing rather aggressively. I've had many a time, been honked at aggressively and cursed by annoyed drivers behind. This becomes so stressful in that it takes away the from the supposed 'automatic' driving mode.
What is interesting about this is - while all the intelligence is applied to ensure that the car avoids colliding with the car ahead - with multiple controls and settings, there's almost none to make sure that it doesn't end up being hit from behind. Of course, I know that there's no radar on the back (with the disabling of the one in the front, that point is moot anyway), and there aren't as many cameras as in the front. But, since it's almost all camera dependent now, there should be some precaution to watch out for following traffic when braking. The only solution I see, is an option 'follow surrounding traffic behavior for downward speed limit changes'. I don't know if that's possible but I can't think of any other alternative.
What I'm trying to find out is, how is everybody handling this? I don't recall many people mentioning this, so I find it quite puzzling. Does no one else find this annoying? Am I missing something?

One thing I absolutely hate is that no matter when you get clean and even though it’s been 2 years for me. If I get in a bind or need help from someone, it’s instantly “I know you’re getting high”. Which drives me insane cause it comes from the only ones I have left and the literal only people I can ask. My family. Everyone else could give two shits about what I’m doing unless I’m trying to go out and party with them. Just really is depressing and heart breaking to come so far and work so damn hard, just to have life knock you down and be reminded of the past life. I wish they knew how much I wanted to erase my past.

I CAN’T WIN ANY BATTLES! Every single battle feels like X Battle 2500+! Last season I ended on S+13, but after being reset back to S+1, every match has been gruelingly tedious and pretty much impossible due to the conditions. I’m not enjoying the game anymore because I feel like I can’t accomplish anything right now! Additionally, I went over to X Battle, and I was able to achieve my regular ratios as usual. What is up with the matchmaking?! I receive these horrid teammates in series instead of the compatible teammates in X Battle. This is actually the first time I’ve entered negative rank points since the game’s launch, and it’s really upsetting. How else am I going to level up my catalog if I can’t secure a single victory? I’m beginning to lose willpower and faith in this game’s overall development.
