2023.05.28 18:22 chadowan A Comprehensive Guide to Pro Football Video Game Covers
Another Madden $70 re-skin is upon us, so let's take a moment to explore the history of all the people who have been featured on the cover of an pro football video game.
While the selection of the Madden cover athlete is now an event, there was a wild wild west period of football games from the 80s to the mid-2000s where anybody with a computer could and would build football games, with the selection of the cover being all over the place. Roger Craig was the first cover athlete in 1985 on NFL Challenge for MS-DOS. Madden's first game was in 1988, then by the mid-90s getting a cover athlete or spokesman for your football game was pretty standard.
I wanted to compile those games and covers based on this
Wiki article (and a few that it was missing from that list) and see who was on the main cover of all of those games (some games were almost completely irrelevant, so I left them off this list). Some of these may have more alternates with other people, but I'll stick with the main cover.
Covers by Position

Obviously QBs dominate here, but I didn't realize how little defensive players have been on football game covers (9%), with none being on a cover since Richard Sherman in 2014. I'd love to see more defensive players on the Madden cover. Who would be the most likely defensive guy in the near future? Aaron Donald, TJ Watt, Nick Bosa, Myles Garrett, or Sauce Gardner?
Covers by Team

The Re-skins/Commanders?, Jags, Panthers, and Bills have appeared on a cover but never with an athlete as the lead or with a real person. Only the Texans have never appeared at all on the cover of any football video game. I'd say the Bills are most likely to get one next (Josh Allen), then the Jags (Trevor Lawrence), then the Panthers/Texans if either hits a home run with Young or Stroud. The Commanders have a long road ahead to getting a feature cover athlete, unless you ask Sam Howell who thinks he should be this year's Madden cover athlete.
Most Prolific Cover People

McNabb is the only guy to appear in multiple covers in the same year. Also of note, 7 athletes were on a cover without ever making a pro bowl in their careers: Brad Muster, Pat Terrell, Gordon Laro, Chris Zorich, Albert Fontenot, William Floyd, and Peyton Hillis (Hillis was the only one to be the primary cover athlete).
I'll list all the games and their respective covers by their era below. I'll also attach some of my favorite covers from each era. If the cover person was a Hall of Famer, I'll mark them with a
\). If they're very likely to make the HoF but they're not yet eligible, I'll mark them with a

We didn't see the first cover athlete until 1985 with Roger Craig. They didn't really become standard until the early to mid-90s after Madden became a big selling point for the early Madden games. The dip in the last 2 decades is because there's just less games, so any generic football games will have a large effect.
The Early Days: 1965-1982
1978: Football! for the Magnavox Odyssey 2 was the first football video game with a cover, but obviously the cover athletes are generic. The 2D Era: 1983-1996
1985: NFL Challenge was the first football game with a real cover athlete (Roger Craig). This was the original bar for realism in football simulation, to where it was used in a 1988 ESPN Program \"NFL Dream Season\" where they simulated the greatest teams of all time against each other. 1988: John Madden Football released on the Apple II, MS-DOS, and Commodore 64/128 (partly being developed by Bethesda), which was the beginning of the most dominant franchise in football video games. They featured no NFL teams due to a lack of an NFL license. 1991: Tecmo Super Bowl is probably still my personal favorite football video game. It's totally timeless, and if you pick the Raiders then you're a cheater. Year | Game | Cover Athlete | Team | Position |

The Parity Era: 1997-2004
1997: NFL Blitz came from Midway studios and was a breath of fresh air for football games. They had mostly been stagnant trying to hone in on realistic simulation in 2D form, whereas Blitz came out in 3D and threw realism out the window. I definitely spent too much money on the arcade version of this game. 2000: Madden 2001 started the tradition of having their games feature a cover athlete in this format, which consolidated into nearly everyone following this trend. 2001: Backyard Football 2002 was a more kid-friendly version of a football video game, and they also had other games for other professional sports. I definitely played this a lot on my old Windows Me computer, and Pablo Sanchez is a god. 2002: NFL Fever was Microsoft's foray into football video games on the original Xbox. All 3 of their games featured Peyton Manning as the cover athlete. 2002: NFL GameDay 2003 was 989 Sports' exclusive for Sony on the PlayStation platform. 2004: ESPN NFL 2K5 was the last great football game before the NFL exclusively gave their license to the EA. It was this game that definitely led to NFL's decision though, as they slashed their release price to an unheard of $20, which forced Madden 2004 to release at $30 instead of the typical $50. This pissed off the NFL, who decided to have less competition instead.
The Madden Era: 2005-Present
2005: NFL Street 2 was the second in the NFL Street series as a kind of spiritual successor to NFL Blitz. EA tried to have some diversity in their football video games outside of the Madden franchise, so they had the short-lived Street franchise under \"EA BIG\" 2006: NFL Head Coach was a new perspective on NFL Games where you play as the coach instead of the players. I enjoyed these although they could get a little boring. 2007: All Pro Football 2K8 was 2K's attempt at keeping the 2K football franchise alive without the coveted NFL license. They got three HoF players on the cover in Elway, Barry, and Rice, but not the actual license to any NFL team. This game received praise for its mechanics, but poor sales showed that a non-NFL licensed game would always struggle to make it. 2011: Madden 12 was maybe the last good Madden game. Also, Peyton Hillis. The only guy on a NFL football game cover to never make a Pro Bowl. This guy is an actual hero though, so good for him. 2019: Doug Flutie's Maximum Football was a mix of american and CFL football as another attempt at making a football game without the NFL license to poor results. They have announced a new game as a free to play title on new platforms, but no games in this franchise have released since 2020. 2020: Retro Bowl is a mobile game more in the style of Tecmo Super Bowl than Madden. It's probably the most successful non-Madden game since ESPN NFL 2K5, and it's pretty fun. People should definitely give this one a try since it's free to play on any mobile platform. 2022: Madden 23 gave the cover back to Madden for the first time since 1999 to honor the passing of the legend John Madden. Unfortunately the game inside the cover was crap, has been the style of Madden games for over a decade. Year | Game | Cover Athlete | Team | Position |

2023.05.28 18:22 pleasetryacid Finished in 1 Year!
| Confetti achieved! After 13 years in and out of colleges because of untreated ADHD and working 2 low wage jobs at a time, I’ve finally finished. Always thought it just wasn’t possible for me to learn, and so I drove a school bus for many years and worked in restaurants, absolutely hating life. I couldn’t concentrate on 1 task more than 10 minutes without feeling like my head would explode from getting agitated. But once properly diagnosed and treated, I realized I CAN focus, and that I could knock out multiple courses in a week! I hope people who are not on certain meds won’t feel down about themselves when reading about people who finish in 6 months or 1 year… In my experience, it’s likely these people are single with no kids, work part time, and/or take specific medication. I transferred in 23 credits from previous universities (actually had around 60 but many were irrelevant because I’ve switched majors so many times), 7 from study.com (SDC), 10 from sophia, and 4 for the coursera google IT cert which allowed me entry into the school. I HIGHLY recommend doing courses on Sophia prior to your start date at WGU, some I completed in hours. Overall could have finished sooner, but for a few months got stuck on the Software II project.. an absolute monstrosity. My ADHD could NOT, and at the time I couldn’t go back on Ritalin to help get me through. So I switched from Software Development to Information Technology and got back on track knocking out 1 course every 2 weeks. These latter courses were more challenging, hence taking 2 weeks to complete. The easier courses can be done in 1 week or less if you have the time, attention span, and motivation. I may have finished fast, but WGU is in NO WAY easier than traditional brick and mortar schools. I’ve been to several B&M schools and have close friends who attended big name schools. The difference is that WGU removes time restrictions and allows you to freely move at your own pace. The tasks are still just as large and challenging, but without time restraints you can absolutely blaze through with the right motivation in your veins.. Caffeine, dopamine, etc, you get the point. Just keeping it real. Tips: - Before starting every course, google the course code + wgu reddit, “C850 wgu reddit”. You will find great quizlets and tips
- Use Quizlet to study for OA’s (objective assessment/final exam). Only time I open the course material is if it were a certification I’m studying for
- Do the minimum the assignment asks for and submit it. If it needs revision, the evaluator will send it back outlining exactly what you need to add to it
- Choose the order you want to take your courses in. I never let the mentor decide for me
- If working on a complex project that is hurting your brain, keep scheduling live instructor support sessions and they will walk you through it. Or, if it’s just too painful, switch majors like I did and carry on towards the finish line
Now working on the Master’s in Information Technology Management! Wish I'd known about the Accelerated Master’s in Information Technology Management because you get both the Bachelor’s and Master’s without having to take an additional 4 or so courses. The Master’s will really help in your job search. As only a Bachelor’s student at the time, I got an internship at a big company after 6 months of applying to over 200 jobs. All of my friends who went to well-known local schools got an internship after applying to just 1-10 jobs, or by just stumbling into their school career fair. But they pay wayyyy more in tuition, and takes them a solid 3 or 4 years since they can't freely complete and submit assignments like we can at WGU. WGU is almost free, that's how great the tuition is. If eligible for pell grant, you'll only need to pay a few hundred dollars for tuition each term which can be covered with federal student loans OR one of the many scholarships WGU has. Compare that to $30,000 a year at a B&M school. My life has now changed forever because I was finally able to afford a degree and complete it in a reasonable amount of time. No more working low wage jobs and living in poverty. Thank you WGU!! And good luck to anyone just starting out at WGU! You are in the right place. I can assure you of that. https://preview.redd.it/focsabqc3n2b1.jpg?width=666&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78d04ea15790df433d2e95f641fcdfe111fca681 submitted by pleasetryacid to WGU [link] [comments] |
2023.05.28 18:22 PanzerBirb [BATTLE] Taming the Welsh Dragon
While Richard de la Pole secured his reign over England proper, the situation of Wales hung over his head like a sore thumb. While the Welsh rebels led by Rhys ap Thomas had been unable to assert Prince Henry’s claim to the English throne, they proved too resilient for the Marcher Lords to handle after years of warfare. As such, the question of Wales was deferred as neither side had the strength to do more than launch small raids. However, with some of the devastation in England proper
repaired and with an army raised, Richard began his march into Wales in order to bring the Welsh rebels to heel by iron and blood.
After an extensive preparation period in Cardiff and Bristol, the English army makes its slow march across southern Wales, hampered by its relatively large artillery train and the region's poor infrastructure. With this slow movement along the southern coast, the Welsh rebels are able to muster their forces. While small compared to the total English force, the Welsh force forces the England army to stay more or less unified in its march across Wales. The towns of Tenbye, Penebrok, and Haverford fall without bloodshed to the English army, but as the English march north, several other towns such as Cardigan and Aberystroth refuse to surrender instantly to the English army, resulting in the aforementioned towns to be looted.
Only after Richard pushes north to siege down the citadel at Caernarvon do the Welsh rebels act, splitting their forces and attacking the recently established English garrisons in western and south-western Wales. While these attacks are relatively successful, fears of the English army and the Marcher Lords force the Welsh rebels to retreat to their mountain strongholds with moderate losses. With Rhys ap Thomas unwilling, or unable, to face off against Richard, his efforts in northwest Wales are successful.
With the capture of Caernarvon, Conwy, Penbrock, and Harlech Castles, Richard’s army moves East where they link up with the forces of George Talbot at the town of Mold in mid-October. While Talbot was told to secure their own holdings, the Earl of Shrewsbury took personal initiative in the latter half of the campaign, aiming to take advantage of the split Welsh forces and concluding that the best defense of the Earldom was offensive action.
While the Welsh rebels still remain a potent force, the control of Rhys ap Thomas over the rebels has fractured in the wake of Richard’s campaign. While Rhys ap Thomas is still the nominal leader of the rebels, more Welsh rebels have signaled a willingness to break with Rhys, viewing his personal insistence of Prince Henry's claim to be self-destructive to their cause. Warfare in Wales has begun to devolve into guerilla warfare, but the Welsh rebels still have a good portion of their forces should they be forced to take the battlefield.

2023.05.28 18:20 Trick-Two497 Discussion: An Abduction
This story picks up where the last one left off. Holmes has been embarrassed again in front of Ganimard and his fellow police officers. He’s angry, but leaves respectfully. One his way out, he sees a garnet and picks it up. Then he notes that the house was designed by Destange as was the adjoining house. He verifies with a beat cop that the man and veiled lady came out of the other house.
Holmes returns the next day to investigate the house. In the cellar he finds another garnet, then some footprints in the dust. He hides when a door swings open and a man comes through. Holmes jumps the man and tries to question him without success. But the man has a box full of the garnets with an address on it. He leaves the man tied up and goes to the address on the box. He takes the box in and learns that a lady will call for them. He goes back out and watches until the veiled lady appears, picks up the box and leaves. He follows her to an apartment and then through a secret passage. He finds himself in her wardrobe where he stays hidden. When he finally sees her face, it is Clotilde Destange!
Clotilde is crying when Lupin enters. There is a tender scene where he reassures her that she should not judge herself for the wrong she did. She expresses complete devotion to him. Lupin tells her that Sherlock is on their track and that one of their men is missing, which frightens Clotilde. Lupin admits that the situation is serious and that he cannot reach Holmes due to his isolation. He is going to move his base of operations to somewhere safer. He cautions her not to go out. She walks him out.
Holmes examines the house he is now in and finds it is the home of Destange! The two houses are on adjacent streets. This is how Clotilde can leave home while still appearing to be within. He conceals himself in the library and waits until everyone is in bed. He goes through the architect’s papers and finds all the houses that Lupin as Maxime has worked on. He then hops out the window and goes back to the hotel.
After a nice smoke and meditating on what he's learned, he sends Ganimard a message - he will meet him briefly this morning and wants Ganimard to be ready in the evening with at least 30 men to make an arrest. He then engaged a car and driver to take him to Mon. Destange’s house, and he has the driver wait for him. He does a bit of work, still pretending to be Destange’s secretary, but when Clotilde appears, he approaches her. Before she allows him to speak, however, she calls a dressmaker. Then, she listens as Holmes tells her that he knows that Maxime is Lupin and that she should come with him or he will reveal her to her father as the infamous Blonde Lady. He accuses her of killing the Baron d’Hautrec, but she says it is a lie. The baron, in a fit of insanity, which he was known to have, attacked her and in the struggle she only acted to save her own life. He is ready to reveal all of what she’s done to her father.
She agrees to go with him, and they go out to the car. He tells the driver where to go, and then he goes through his plan in his head. Eventually he notices that the driver is not going where he was told to go and realizes that the driver has been replaced by Lupin himself. Holmes realizes that the call to the dressmaker was really a call to Lupin for help. Lupin confirms the extent of Holmes’ knowledge. They change into a different, faster car that has been brought along by Lupin’s gang and they drive a long ways until they reach the Seine. Sherlock is loaded onto a sea-going yacht. The captain is given orders to take Holmes to England but not to get there until after the departure of the midnight boat. Holmes is tied to the bunk in the captain’s quarters and Lupin departs.
The next morning an announcement is placed in the Echo de France stating that Holmes has been ejected from the country and sent back to England.

2023.05.28 18:19 MindlessVegeta $NRK Best Potential of 2023 Huge Marketing Plans Active Community
I stumbled upon a fresh, groundbreaking project that's shaking up the crypto scene - NORDEK and its coin $NRK. It’s gaining traction on several exchanges, starting with MEXC tomorrow, followed by BITMART this week, and soon a Tier 1 Exchange (they’ll announce soon). The $NRK coin has soared from $0.02 to $0.28, and the market cap appears to be still extremely reasonable compared to other Layer 2 solutions.
Currently anyone can buy on Coinstore. Deposits are live on MEXC, trading starts tomorrow:
What’s causing the stir around NORDEK? Are we looking at just another Layer 2 protocol, or could this be the elusive 'Polygon Killer' we've all been waiting for?
Main reasons I think this can be huge:
Ethereum’s rising gas fees have highlighted the urgent need for efficient Layer 2 options.
NORDEK promises ZERO GAS FEES. Yes, you read that right! NORDEK plan to accomplish this using a different approach.
Focusing on devising unique solutions for Payments (Norpay) and Gaming (GameHub).
NORPAY, their flagship offering, is more than just another DeFi tool.
Crypto Debit Card coupled with a payment processor.
Additional utility to tokens of all top projects built on or supporting the NORDEK Blockchain.
ZERO GAS FEE for tokens on NORDEK Blockchain, saving up on huge transaction charges
GameHub, a space where GameFi projects supporting the NORDEK Blockchain will be automatically integrated.
Sizeable WEB2 communities to partake in WEB3 games, further expanding the project's reach.
Partnerships with multiple gaming guilds ensures sureshot high usage of the blockchain
Infrastructure support and grants to projects that remain exclusive on the NORDEK blockchain.
Multiple GameFi projects are integrating NORDEK Blockchain
Word has it that more than 18 DeFi and GameFi projects are currently being built on the NORDEK Blockchain. It’s a protocol worth keeping an eye on, especially for those who missed the boat on other booming blockchains.
$NRK is already live for trading on Coinstore and deposits have commenced on MEXC under $NRK/USDT pair. They're on top position on MEXC Kickstarter!

Dose any of my European friends here know if I ordered something from Thomann.de and its only arriving in stock in July and the products says availability "on request", will I be charged immediately or only when the product arrives back in stock before they ship it to me? Thanks for the help

2023.05.28 18:16 Business_Afternoon68 Got a Sony Trinitron KV-27V42 CRT that won't switch inputs. Any ideas?
| I found this CRT on the side of the road and decided to bring it home. I am having trouble switching the inputs and the channels won't switch at all. The screen turns on and shows "3" in the top right hand corner. Volume works but that's about all. Any suggestions on where to look for troubleshooting? Thanks! submitted by Business_Afternoon68 to crtgaming [link] [comments] |

2023.05.28 18:14 wildfire_and_pants "Ghört da eh!" - Momente
Was waren eure Momente so in letzter Zeit, in denen ihr euch sowas gedacht habts?

Hi guys,
I am visiting Dhaka and don’t know many places to eat. Can you guys suggest some restaurants or cafes that I should try. Mainly looking for pretty places and good food.
Trip advisor is the worst and suggests random restaurants 😭
Thanks in advance.
