2023.06.07 00:39 dlschindler [Murder Of Crows] S1E3 My Crow Speaks To The Mad

I sat in the parking lot of McDonald's feeding french fries to my talking crow. We were in the back of Detective Winters's car. He was having the large coffee that cost only a dollar. He had told me he liked it better than Starbuck's, as he took it black.
"Sergeant Ventura was a good cop." Detective Winters was talking about the policeman that had gotten killed at the crimescene.
"Did he have family?" I asked.
"He was divorced." Detective Winters sounded like he could cry for the dead man. "We were his family."
I ate my cheeseburger in silence. Cory hopped onto the fries and scattered them to the floor. He looked up at me without an apology for his behavior before he went to go eat some of them.
We were taken to a hotel where we became roommates with Detective Winters. The maid knocked on the door as I was taking off my boots. He answered it with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth that he had lit with hotel matches.
"What is it?" He asked her. I listened, genuinely curious.
"No animals." She pushed past him slightly and spotted Cory. Presumably, she would go get the hotel manager.
"It's okay, he is with me. I am a detective. I am solving murders." He told her, and showed her his badge with a well-rehearsed gesture. She gave him a very admonishing look and left without saying more. I wondered if our sleep would be interrupted. I was very tired and went right to bed.
In the morning the same maid was back, prompting me to wonder if she had worked all night. She glared at us as we left and she went in to clean.
Detective Winters took me to the station and made me sit around with him all day while he did paperwork. He had interviews with people and more paperwork. His job suddenly seemed very boring to me. I already longed to go outside and discover the world out there. I was his hostage because he knew I knew that I was his suspect in a murder.
"I want you investigating this. Looks like it might be the hitchhiker killer. If you can get some cooperation from you-know-who, maybe we can call the FBI on this one." The boss of Detective Winters walked over to his desk and gave him a thin file on a crime scene secured earlier.
"Let's go." Detective Winters got up and I followed.
"Who was he talking about?" I asked.
"A possible serial killer. I know a guy who knows a lot more than he is telling us. First we need to go see the crime scene. Forensics is already there so you will have to wait outside." Detective Winters was talking fast. He was excited about this for some reason.
"You know this serial killer?"
"Yes. If it is the same one then we've had several killings already. I will need to go see our friend. Then we call the FBI." Detective Winters explained.
"Is that how it's done?" I asked.
"It is how we are gonna do this. You wouldn't understand." He started his car and we left.
"You like it when people say 'you wouldn't understand' to you?" I asked after awhile.
"Not really. Sorry. I just don't like feeling like I am explaining myself to someone." Detective Winters gave me some kind of crude apology for the way he had spoken to me.
"Well, I don't really like listening to you anyway." I offered. After that we just drove in silence. After we arrived at the crime scene, Cory went to the floor of the back seat to feed on the drying fries left there. Detective Winters asked someone he was passing for their cigarette, took it, and smoked it, as he walked away. We were left there alone in his car.
I was tempted to just get out and walk away. I felt that it would be dishonorable. Therefore I stayed, out of a sense that I was doing the right thing.
"What a mess." Detective Winters came back after awhile. He fished a half smoked butt out of his ashtray and lit it with the car's lighter. Then he rolled down the window to exhale smoke as we drove away.
We arrived at a small trailer where a column of smoke arose from out back. Detective Winters said: "Come with me."
The man was just throwing the last papers and files out of an empty banker's box and tossed it aside where several others sat empty.
"Daniel Barrow." Detective Winters spoke so he would turn around. The man gestured at the destructive act he had committed and shrugged and smiled.
"What can I say?" Daniel Barrow asked. "I don't work for you. I am a private eye. You know, an investigator-for-hire."
"I could arrest you for destruction of evidence." Detective Winters told the private eye.
"Then do so. I am merely destroying my own pictures and notes. Personal property." Daniel insisted.
Then we left him there, smoke trailing away with bits of white ash in his hair.
"What a dick..." Detective Winters used a bad pun.
I chuckled and replied: "He seemed crazy."
Something dawned and Detective Winters held his hand up at me for a second while he thought. Then he lowered it and brightly added:
"Dellfriar Asylum." Detective Winters decided.
"Where crazy people are?" I tried to follow his jump to a conclusion. I had no idea what he was talking about.
"Where Doctor Evans was killed. That is how I met our friend for the first time. He was caught snooping around that crime scene too." Detective Winters recalled.
I said nothing as we drove to Dellfriar and gained access to the ancient and fearsome looking seaside castle. It was still medieval compared to other mental hospitals. I had only seen it in pictures, but now the place creeped me out.
"What are we doing here?" I asked. "If Doctor Evans was killed by the same person Daniel Barrow would have told you about: then you already know who it is."
"You are right." He stared up at the terrifying structure. "Jesse Darling. She was a patient here. We have a copy of her file. You are right. There is something more I wanted to see again."
"I'd rather wait here." I told him. He nodded and left us in the parking lot.
When he came back he looked disappointed. We drove back to the hotel in silence. The next day he met with the FBI and told them what he knew, about a serial killer named Jesse Darling.
Then he found me and told me: "Her name is Scarlet. She was friends with Daniel Barrow. He visited her often."
"Now that you have completed that path, why not try another?" I asked him.
"Scarlet is who we should be looking for." Detective Winters agreed. "We will never find Jesse Darling."
"Then let's start at the beginning." I advised him. And so we drove back to the crime scene we were at before.
His decision was to drive along the highway from there, heading away from Dellfriar. Detective Winters said:
"I think she has killed six men and she tried to kill Daniel Barrow. He survived."
As it grew dark a light rain began to fall. The sound of the windshield wipers kept going. My hand began to ache. Up ahead stood someone in a red hoody, hitchhiking with their left thumb. We pulled over.
"Must go now." Cory cawed.
"Sounds anxious." Detective Winters noted.
"He is saying we must leave." I translated. "He gets jittery."
"He got a name?"
"Cory." I took my crow to my lap and gently held him while the back passenger door opened. I looked over at the dark shape in the red hoody. Lightning flashed behind her before she got in to sit with me in the back.
I could feel the damp cold air coming off of her hoody as she seated herself. She was young, although her face was kinda mean looking. As she spoke, she gestured with her left hand, her right never appearing. She said:
"I was walking and this rain started. I just need a lift into town." And she tried a fake little laugh and smile.
"We can give you a lift." Detective Winters offered. We started back onto the highway and she reached up with her left hand and got her seatbelt on.
"The hand is silver and it can cut like a knife. Maker of dead men, from living ones. She actually likes doing it, you could learn from her." Cory told me about our guest.
"Your bird talks." She smiled. This smile looked real, but still predatory.
"If you call that talking." Detective Winters chuckled with a masculine disregard.
"I don't know." I stammered. I was frozen in fear. This was surely our hook-hand hitchhiker. She was definitely Scarlet. I could imagine her weapon striking away half my neck in one instant swipe, out of nowhere. She'd kill the detective next. Only she was wearing a seatbelt: so our corpses would get ejected into the darkness. She'd stay belted to her seat.
"I can understand him." She smiled coyly.
"You can?" I was choking. Sweat beaded my forehead and terror gripped my heart.
"He says I am pretty and sweet and that you already like me." She sighed.
"He said that." I breathed mechanically.
We pulled into a gas station. Scarlet stayed seated, smiling endlessly at me, her eyes shiny like glass. I had to pee yet couldn't move. I was afraid that if I tried to get out: she would slaughter me.
Detective Winters took his time filling gas, making a long phone call, buying cigarettes and smoking about half the pack. I was in agony: it was either pee myself and probably trigger her killing me, or get out and die trying.
"I really have to pee. Is it okay if I go and go pee?" I squeaked.
"Sure. Come right back." She was still smiling like a golden devil at me. I crept away from her and shut the door. Cory was on my shoulder as we obtained the key, attached to a real goat's leg, hoof and all. I went into the bathroom and peed.
As we came out with the goat leg in one hand, zipping up with the other, the parking lot lit up. Police cars swarmed from all around, surrounding Detective Winters's car. I watched while armored SWAT had to drag Scarlet from the vehicle.
Scarlet managed to slash them anyway, drawing blood from three of them. Her hidden prosthetic arm was indeed like a sharp pair of hooks. She whipped out a knife and got one of them in the groin. Blood spurted from his wound and he staggered and fell over.
Finally, they had her restrained and arrested. I went into the gas station to return the goat's leg bathroom key. Detective Winters came into the gas station behind me and selected a lighter to buy. It was with a bunch of lighters with tattoo art on them. His had a little red riding hood, looking scared, and standing in front of a wolf's eyes.
"You're still alive." He told me and flicked his lighter's flame in front of me before he went back out to the car.
"Death will always happen." Cory agreed with him.
I just sighed and tossed the goat's leg onto the counter.

FOLLOW THE TRAIL & CONTEXT OF THE QUESTIONS ASKED TO NIOCORP MANAGEMENT BELOW: Sharing Jims's responses to " Relevant" questions on 11/15/2022:

1) - Has Niocorp recently applied for a DoE/LPO loan for "debt"..?
RESPONSE:
"We are indeed in discussions with several U.S. federal agencies about potential financial assistance to the Project, but all have very strict rules about disclosure of those discussions and processes. I’m sorry but I cannot say anything more about this at present. "
2) - Could any additional CO2 capture methods still be possible by ex-situ, direct mineralization, or other methods now being undertaken via the New Process?
RESPONSE:
"The reagent recycling tied to the Calcium and Magnesium removal, which we recently announced as part of our demonstration plant operations, is effectively a carbon sink and is expected to reduce the carbon footprint of the eventual operation*."*
3) - Who owns the patent/rights to this New Process being implemented? Or can it be licensed moving forward?
RESPONSE:
"We hold the rights to any intellectual property developed and related to the Elk Creek process by virtue of our contractual relationships with L3 and other entities involved in the work. While our focus remains on using proven commercial technologies in the public domain, we will act to protect the parts of our process that may be novel. "

Please see Jim's responses to questions posed for comment-3/17/2022.

~A) Could you comment on what the production of higher purity Niobium & Titanium could be utilized for once realized?
RESPONSE:
"If the higher purity niobium and titanium intermediates that L3 was able to produce at bench-scale are replicated and proven at demonstration scale, this would put us in a position to more easily move to other products beyond those outlined in our 2019 Feasibility Study. Niobium oxide for use in Li-Ion batteries is one possible example, although the production of that product would require additional processing steps beyond the higher-purity niobium intermediate that we discussed in last week’s news release. The company is not yet in a position to make a determination on whether or not, and when, to possibly expand our Niobium product offering. Higher grade TiO2 could expose us to additional markets where higher margins could be obtained. But, again, we are not in a position to speak to those possibilities in any detail yet. "
~ B) Niocorp’s preferred separation method is SX. Are these higher purity processes part of an improved SX process or “something else”?
RESPONSE:
"No, the processes we recently discussed occur in the earlier stages of the flowsheet, prior to any SX processing. We look forward to unveiling those details once these processes are verified at the demonstration plant level and once all associated work needed to complete an updated Feasibility Study is completed. "

\*Jim-**A) Could you offer comment on What Scope 3 emissions mean for the Elk Creek mine moving forward into production & to the end users utilizing the products being processed at the mine? & Would Niocorp's Scope 3 Carbon Emission Reductions qualify foas "Carbon Credits" in the context above? Could/Does Niocorp's "Carbon Friendly GHG/ESG" mining processes & work scope qualify for- INNOVATIVE CLEAN ENERGY LOAN GUARANTEES Department of Energy?*
Response:
"We have made an internal estimate of the benefits of our planned products at a Scope 3 emissions level. However, the definition and applicability of Scope 3 emissions must eventually be determined by government regulators, and the SEC is examining many aspects of this issue now. At present and in general, carbon credits are created by mitigation measures taken at the Scope 1 emissions level, although there are several different approaches being examined across the U.S. As to DOE programs, I am not allowed to comment on that at this time."
B) Is/Could an "ANCHOR" Investos still have interest in the Elk Creek Project? Comment If you can... (A,B,C,D.... as all options are on the table.)

MARCH 2023~Export-Import Bank of the United States Issues Letter of Interest to NioCorp for Potential Debt Financing of up to $800 Million for NioCorp’s Elk Creek Critical Minerals Project~

Export-Import Bank of the United States Issues Letter of Interest to NioCorp for Potential Debt Financing of up to $800 Million for NioCorp's Elk Creek Critical Minerals Project - NioCorp Developments Ltd.

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – March 6, 2023 – NioCorp Developments Ltd. (“NioCorp” or the “Company“) (TSX:NB) (OTCQX:NIOBF) is pleased to announce the receipt of a Letter of Interest from the Export-Import Bank of the United States (“EXIM“) for potential debt financing of up to $800 million through EXIM’s “Make More In America” initiative to fund the project costs of NioCorp’s proposed Elk Creek Critical Minerals Project.
EXIM’s communication to NioCorp states: “We are pleased to extend this Letter of Interest in support of the proposed capital funding plan by Elk Creek Resources Corp. for the Elk Creek Project. Based on the preliminary information submitted on expected exports and jobs supported, EXIM may be able to consider potential financing of up to $800,000,000.00 of the project’s costs under EXIM’s Make More In America initiative.” Elk Creek Resources Corp. is a Nebraska corporation wholly owned by NioCorp.
A project finance letter of interest from EXIM represents only a preliminary step in the formal EXIM application process, and the Letter of Interest states that the communication “does not represent a financing commitment” and “is not an explicit indication of the financial or commercial viability of a transaction.”
NioCorp expects to submit an application to EXIM to begin the first phase of the underwriting process (“Phase I”) as soon as possible. As stated in the Letter of Interest, “Upon receipt of NioCorp’s application for financing, EXIM will conduct all requisite due diligence necessary to determine if a Final Commitment may be issued for this transaction.” The process from submission of a Phase I application to a final commitment of financing by EXIM, if any, is expected to take approximately six to nine months and is subject to a number of risks and uncertainties. See “About NioCorp’s Application Process” and “Forward-Looking Statements Disclaimers” below for additional information. As explained in the Letter of Interest, “Any final commitment will be dependent on meeting EXIM’s underwriting criteria, authorization process, and finalization and satisfaction of terms and conditions. All Final Commitments must be in compliance with EXIM policies as well as program, legal, and eligibility requirements.”
“We are very pleased with this Letter of Interest from the Export-Import Bank of the United States for NioCorp’s Elk Creek Critical Minerals Project, and with the fact that we may qualify for as much as $800 million in debt financing from EXIM,” said Mark A. Smith, Chairman and CEO of NioCorp. “We look forward to finalizing and submitting a formal loan application to EXIM and working closely with them through this process.”
The debt financing is subject to the satisfactory completion of due diligence, the negotiation and settlement of final terms, and the negotiation of definitive documentation. There can be no assurance that the debt financing will be completed on the terms as described above or at all.
As noted on EXIM’s website, in February 2021, President Biden signed Executive Order 14017 directing an all-of-government approach to assessing vulnerabilities in – and strengthening the resilience of – the United States’ critical supply chains. From that Executive Order, the White House released findings from its comprehensive 100-day supply chain assessments for four critical products: semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging; large capacity batteries, like those for electric vehicles; critical minerals and materials; and pharmaceuticals and active pharmaceutical ingredients.
More information on EXIM’s Make More In America initiative can be seen here: https://www.exim.gov/about/special-initiatives/make-more-in-america-initiative
The information on or accessible from any social media postings or sites, or EXIM’s website, is not, and will not be deemed to be, incorporated by reference into this press release or any filings with the SEC.

New Processing Approach Demonstrates the Ability to Make More Niobium per Tonne of Ore, Produce a Higher Purity Product, and Potentially Address New Markets with Different Niobium Products

More Streamlined Production Process Demonstrated

NioCorp’s new process has been demonstrated to be more efficient than the previous design, is expected to require fewer processing steps, and may allow the elimination of entire processes in NioCorp’s planned processing plant in Nebraska, such as acid regeneration.
“I am very pleased with the results shown in our demonstration plant for niobium recovery,” said Mark A. Smith, CEO and Executive Chairman of NioCorp. “These results point strongly to the likelihood of NioCorp producing more niobium from each tonne of Elk Creek Project ore, which could have positive impacts on our Project’s anticipated overall financial returns. These results also point to the prospect of our Project producing more forms of niobium for a greater range of global markets.”
“These are very exciting results and they point to potentially greater production levels and additional optionality in terms of where we can sell niobium and the prices these products command,” said Scott Honan, NioCorp Chief Operating Officer. “While the demonstration plant has performed well, the pace of operations has gone at a slower rate than any of us would have liked. That is often the case with demonstration plants, which by their nature are designed to investigate innovate pathways for producing commercial products as well as stress testing those processes. Our top priority in this project has always been to maintain a very high standard for technical feasibility and testing, and to conduct the work safely and efficiently. Adhering to high standards is critical to the project’s success, including being able to attract necessary financing to bring projects such as ours to commercial reality.”

TITANIUM- The U.S. & ALLIES ARE BUILDING OUT ANOTHER 2,000 PLUS F-35 FIGHTERS
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (May 26, 2023) – NioCorp Developments Ltd. (“NioCorp” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ:NB) (TSX:NB) is pleased to announce that it has successfully demonstrated an ability to potentially double the recovery of titanium from each tonne of ore the Company expects to mine at its Nebraska-based Elk Creek Critical Minerals Project (the “Project”), once project financing is obtained and the commercial plant is constructed. The new process is expected to produce a purer form of titanium that may command a higher price than is assumed in NioCorp’s June 2022 feasibility study for the Project (the “Feasibility Study”). NioCorp’s demonstration plant in Trois Rivieres, Quebec, has shown that the Company’s new and improved recovery process can likely achieve an 83.7% rate of overall titanium recovery to final product. This compares to a 40.3% titanium recovery rate in NioCorp’s previous process approach. This new result points to a potentially large increase in the amount of titanium that NioCorp can potentially produce at currently planned rates of mining.

MAY 29th 2023~ Jim/NIOCORP respond to question on recent Scandium News Release above:What comes to mind right off the bat is:

*A)"How is this Scandium AlSc master Alloy different than what Niocorp produced with IBC & AMES laboratory???"*Response:

"It is a different process that will be utilized. "

*B) Will this be a Patentable approach now moving forward? in conjunction with Nanoscale???*Response:

" Yes and yes. But we do not discuss the details of intellectual property matters except as required by law"

(\****This is very interesting indeed because a few years back Niocorp was not interested in patenting any such materials!)*
*C) IS NIOCORP still engaged with IBC, AMES & OTHER ENTITIES in regards to Scandium Alloy production & uses moving forward? and with the New Niobium & Titanium oxides as well!!!!*Response:

"We are focusing on our partnership with Nanoscale on the production of AlSc master alloy, but we engaged with a number of parties on various elements of our scandium-aluminum master alloy business development. We are not working with IBC on niobium or titanium product development efforts."

(****SOUNDS LIKE OTHER COLLABORATIONS ARE ONGOING WITH POSSIBLE PRIVATE & GOVERNMENT ENTITIES?? OFF-TAKE AGREEMENTS & SO MUCH MORE! COULD BE IN PLAY AS THE MINE IS BUILT & NEARS PRODUCTION!!!!!!)
"ENGAGED WITH A NUMBER OF VARIOUS PARTIES!!!!" ARE (SCANDIUM, NIOBIUM & TITANIUM ALL INVOLVED......???? INTERESTING!!!!)

THEN THERE IS THE RARE EARTHS QUESTION:

Sharing Jims response as Niocorp does have legal DISCLOSURE constraints to deal with in regards to all "Material News releases"! When asked about Rare Earths ON ~MAY, 26th 2023~
RESPONSE:
"NioCorp has not made a final determination on which REE products we will make, including tonnages, etc.. That determination can only be made in the context of publication of an updated Feasibility Study"

FORM YOUR OWN OPINIONS & CONCLUSIONS ABOVE:

Hmmm... LAtest batch of Questions to Team Niocorp has gone "unanswered????" I don't think they can answer them until they can! Although these latest Niocorp material NEWS releases are AWEFULLY ENCOURAGING!

STAYING TUNED WITH MANY!!!

GAMEPLAY CHANGES
Audio
British Forces – War Cry ability

Camera
  • The camera now allows players to zoom out an additional 5 meters using the scroll wheel increasing the overall zoom level.
Event Cues

    • A ‘grenade incoming’ event cue appears on screen. The player clicks on it after 10 seconds, the event cue immediately disappears as its total lifetime has been reduced to 5 seconds when becoming ‘seen’.
    • The same event cue appears on screen again, this time the player clicks on it after 1 second: the event cue will be considered ‘seen' and will remain for 4 more seconds, as its total lifetime has been reduced to 5 seconds.

Planes
The intent of the changes to airplanes and loiters is to deliver more believable-looking visuals along with better responsiveness and game feel. When a player clicks, it’s essential that the feedback on the ability be more immediate. As always, we are looking into new ways to bring you an immersive experience, so we’ve adjusted the visuals and deformation on airplane crashes, dives, and projectile speeds.

  • Fragmentation Bomb now has two airplanes in formation.

Modding Tools Improvements & Bug Fixes
  • Added first ability archetype “equip_and_fire_weapon”. This archetype is intended primarily for infantry to replicate the functionality of abilities such as grenades or panzerfausts. It will equip a weapon of the chosen name or hardpoint index and fire it X times at the target. The caster entity(ies) must have the weapon assigned to that hardpoint in order to cast.
  • Introduced “custom properties”, which allow modders to adjust the variables that will be read by state tree scripts to allow variations of existing ability archetypes. Custom properties are only used for a specific ability state tree script, however any ability that references that state tree script can re-use the same variable names to create the same effect.
  • Introduced the concept of an “ability archetype” -- These are template abilities that can be cloned to easily create variations using custom properties. For now, this is just the “equip_and_fire_weapon” ability with the potential to release more in the future. Previously, if you modded an ability like the rifleman’s grenade, it could only ever throw that specific grenade. Now a modder could adjust which weapon to swap in and how many shots to fire by copying the equip_and_fire_weapon ability and changing those properties.
  • It will also be possible to use custom properties to adjust values on some of the abilities that do not yet have a formal archetype created, such as any of the flight abilities we reworked this patch and abilities such as Repair, which now exposes several tuning handles to adjust the repair amount.
  • Tuning pack mods can now have their files reference each other without crashing on load
  • Updated the default atmosphere to the latest day lighting version, this should improve the modding experience with default settings.

  • In the Enigma retrieval mission, added a small lump sum of manpower when the special aid station is captured to allow for limited reinforcements. 2023.06.06 19:09 Kyouhen House of Commons Update - April 29 to June 2

Happy Tuesday everyone!
Just a quick note to start with, I'm going to be making these posts on Tuesdays instead of Mondays. My schedule has changed and made it hard for me to get these done on Mondays, so here we are!

New Bills

S-246 - Lebanese Heritage Month Act
S-246 comes from Senator Jane Cordy (Progressive Senate Group, Nova Scotia) and would declare November to be Lebanese Heritage Month. It's passed the Senate without a problem and is now waiting for its Second Reading.
S-216 - Effective and Accountable Charities Act
S-216 comes from Senator Ratna Omidvar (Independent Senators Group, Ontario) and makes some changes to the rules for charities in the Income Tax Act. S-216 would allow charities to give resources to someone that isn't a qualified donee as long as they take reasonable steps to make sure those resources are only used for charitable purposes. (A qualified donee is pretty much anyone that can issue donation receipts.) S-216 has gone through the Senate without change and is now waiting for its Second Reading.
S-222 - An Act to amend the Department of Public Works and Government Services Act (use of wood)
S-222 was introduced by former Senator Diane Griffin. (Diane was required to retire last year before S-222 could finish its progress.) It would make changes to the Department of Public Works and Government Services Act regarding construction and maintenance of public works and properties. The Minister will need to consider any potential reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when making requirements for these projects, and can allow for the use of wood or other sustainable resources if they help with these reductions. S-222 has passed through the Senate and is currently waiting for its Third Reading in the House of Commons.

Old Bills

C-281 - International Human Rights Act
C-281 is back from its committee reading with a few small changes to the wording in the French version. All the parties agreed to the changes and it's now waiting for its Third Reading.
C-244 - An Act to amend the Copyright Act (diagnosis, maintenance, and repair)
C-244 has come back from its committee reading with a few changes. C-244 is all about allowing people to bypass copyright protections when it comes to diagnosing and repairing their devices. The first change the committee's made to it is to remove the part that allows people to manufacture and sell devices that allow you to bypass these protections. It looks like the concern is that that might go against some of our treaties with other countries, an argument that shows up a lot when changes to copyright are discussed. Instead it now clarifies that you're allowed to bypass these protections for someone else, so a store with access to the tools could offer repair services but can't sell the tools to do it yourself.

Opposition Motions

We've got two fun ones here!
Motion from Pierre Poilievre (Conservative Leader, Ontario, Carleton))
Pierre's got the first Motion this week:
Given that,
- Canada is in the midst of an opioid crisis that has killed over 35,000 people since 2016
- Since 2017, the federal government has spent over $800 million on its failed Canadian Drugs and Substances Strategy, including over $100 million in funding for hard-drug supply projects across Canada, and plans to spend an additional $74 million to "scale up" these projects over the next five years
-Since tax-funded drug supply was ramped up in 2020, opioid deaths have only gone up, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada
- In 2020 slightly less than 7,000 people died of opioid overdoses, while only 3,000 died of overdoses in 2016, according to the Library of Parliament
- In British Columbia alone, yearly drug overdose deaths have increased by 330% between 2015 and 2022
- Recently, a Global News reporter in East Vancouver was able to buy 26 hits for $30 in just 30 minutes of a dangerous and highly addictive opioid that is distributed in tax-funded drug supply programs and flood our streets with cheap opioids
The House call on the government to immediately reverse its deadly policies and redirect all funds from taxpayer-funded, hard drug programs to addiction, treatment, and recovery programs.
Garnett Genuis (Conservative, Alberta, Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan)) proposed an amendment to this, adding to the end:
and to directly sue the companies responsible for causing and fueling the opioid crisis for all damages associated with the crisis and direct all funds recovered through such litigation to prevention, treatment, and recovery programs.
So we're going to start by talking about Garnett's amendment. A quick peek at the numbers from the Public Health Agency of Canada says that between January and September of 2022 78% of opioid-related death involved opioids that were only non-pharmaceutical. "Pharmaceutical origin" means the drug was made by a pharmaceutical company and approved for medical use in humans, so 78% of the deaths were caused by drugs that don't fall under this category. Suing the companies for the other 22% probably won't accomplish anything, so this amendment is just noise.
Garnett's amendment failed with the Conservatives voting in favour and everyone else voting against.
As for Pierre's Motion there's three points I'd like to look at here.
First, just something worth noting is that if the references to 2016 make you think this is a problem caused by the current government that isn't the case. 2016 is just when The Public Health Agency of Canada started tracking these deaths.
Second, the number of deaths in 2022 between January and September was 8% lower than the same period in 2021. The Public Health agency says this isn't a significant decrease in trend, but it's still worth noting that things might be slowing down.
Finally we're going to look at that Global News article Pierre talked about. An article was published the day before they ran the story he mentioned, and was updated afterwards. First up the program is being run by the BC government, not the feds. Several anonymous doctors told them how fast the government-supplied opioids are being sold on the street, but the doctors willing to go on the record argue that the number of prescriptions are a drop in the bucket of overall deaths. Global also calls out that 86% of the deaths involved fentanyl, which isn't being supplied by the program so the safe supply really isn't the cause of the problem. (The doctors also mentioned they'd rather have people getting the safe supply off the street instead of something that might contain fentanyl)
Pierre's Motion was defeated with the Conservatives voting in favour while everyone else voted against.
Motion from Jenny Kwan (NDP, British Columbia, Vancouver East))
Given that:
- The House called on the government to launch a public inquiry into allegations of foreign interference in Canada's democratic system, on March 23 and May 8, 2023.
- The government did not heed this call, and instead appointed an independent special rapporteur who has recommended against holding a public inquiry, despite noting significant gaps and leaving many questions either unasked or unanswered
- Serious questions have been raised about the special rapporteur process, the counsel he retained in support of this work, his findings, and his conclusions
- Only a full public inquiry can fully restore the confidence of Canadians in the integrity of our democratic institutions
The House call on the Right Hon. David Johnston to step aside from his role as special rapporteur, and call on the government to urgently establish a public commission of inquiry which would be:
- Led by an individual selected with unanimous support from all recognized parties in the House
- Granted the power to review all aspects of foreign interference from all states, including, but not limited to, the actions of the Chinese, Indian, Iranian, and Russian governments
- Asked to present its report and any recommendations in advance of the next dissolution of Parliament or, at the latest, at the fixed election date as set by the Canada Elections Act
and instruct the Standing Committee on Procedure and House affairs to provide a report to the House as soon as possible with a recommendation on who could lead such a commission of inquiry and what its terms of reference should include.
All I'm going to say here is that it doesn't look like appointing David Johnston did enough to address the public's concerns about election interference. This is a pretty big problem, as people need to have faith in our democratic system for it to work. It doesn't really matter what David's findings or credentials are, if the public doesn't believe the results it isn't good enough.
Jenny's Motion passed with the Liberals being the only party to vote against it.

Closing Fun

And that's all for the week! I leave you all with fun exchange between Mark Gerretsen (Liberal, Ontario, Kingston and the Islands)) and Clifford Small (Conservative, Newfoundland and Labrador, Coast of Bays—Central—Notre Dame)).
Mark: Mr Speaker, I find it incredibly rich that, on the one hand, when I made a comment that was interpreted to mean that the member for Wellington—Halton Hills) was not telling the truth, all hell broke loose on the Conservative side of-

Clifford: Mr. Speaker, that was unparliamentary language by the member across the way.
(Note: The Speaker decided it was not)

Mark: Mr. Speaker, I will rephrase it. When I did that, the Conservatives lost their marbles, but when the member says-

Clifford: Mr. Speaker, he is being derogatory to people who suffer from mental illness.

2023.06.06 18:27 leavingamarc HM Land Registry Meaning for House Purchase

I am looking to buy a property and have limited it down to a couple, with my solicitor looking over the paperwork of one.
The other has a HM Land Registry exerpt that states the following:
A Conveyance on Sale of the land comprised in this title and that tinted pink on the filed plan dated 27 June 1884 made between (1) PERSON A of PLACE A, (Vendor) and (2) PERSON B of PLACE B, (Purchaser) contains a covenant by the Purchaser of which the following is a copy:The Purchaser hereby covenants with the Vendor that he the Purchaser his heirs or assigns will not at any time use or suffer to be used the said piece of land or any building at any time standing thereon for any trade or manufacture AND will not erect or suffer to be erected on the said piece of land any building unless the same be a lodge or other building to be used or occupied with the dwellinghouse standing upon the said piece of land and that no second dwellinghouse shall be erected upon the said piece of land AND FURTHER will not at any time erect or suffer to be erected any stable or coachhouse on that part of the said piece of land which lies between the points marked respectively E B-C F on the said plan the said points E and F being in a line with the boundary fence on the south west side of the property on the opposite side of the ROAD Road aforesaid known as "NAME" And that until the tithe rent charge shall be legally reapportioned the Purchaser his heirs or assigns shall pay to the Vendor his heirs or assigns the yearly sum of 5s. in respect of such tithe rent charge AND that the Purchaser his heirs or assigns will maintain a good and sufficient close fence between the points marked A and B and between the points marked B and C on the said plan.
The documents come with a map that has a large area shaded in pink and the property that I'm looking to buy with a red outline inside the larger area (but not shaded pink). Areas in pink on the document contain a couple of buildings.
My questions are: 1. Is the owner of the property (potentially me) the Vendor in this situation? And if so, does that mean that the land owner who owned the house years ago sold the land/freehold of that land to other parties?
  1. The land outlined by the point references affects a small corner of the house and mostly affects another building next door. Would I be prevented from building anything within that or is it just the people who own the land in pink?
  2. If the restrictions are on the purchasers and not me as the vendoowner, are they allowed to build or do anything without consent?
  3. The fact that the title references the sold land and covenants, would the owner of the house hold the freehold for that land?
Sorry, I know this is a weird one, I will get a solicitor to look over, but if there are concerns, I'd rather not waste my time and instead, go for the other property.
Thanks

2023.06.06 17:56 breathingwaves Some things that have helped me (long post)

Hi folks hope you’re all well and managing day to day - I know how rough it can be some days.
I wanted to share some of my tips that have helped me. I have lived with Hidradentis since I was about 12, when I entered puberty. I’m 31 now and I think I’ve finally got a handle of symptoms. I am in no way or any means in remission or flare-free. I think it’s just going to be part of my life forever.
All of my flares live on my butt as well as breasts. I've accepted it and have never had issues being intimate with people as a result. I always wear a two piece at my big size. My scars and flares are a part of me and part of being human. More of a personal thing but I'm tired of hiding!
I should preface this that I do live in a major city in the US. I have access to many providers/treatments.
I have been to two dermatologists, one who told me my condition was folliculitis, which did not make sense to me so I went out and looked for 2nd opinion. They confirmed Hidradenitis upon doing lab work to rule out other issues (PCOS, Syphillis, high testosterone, etc.) and visual examination. I am currently stage 1, my symptoms can range from mild (one or two active flares) to moderate (a few at a time + intense scarring).
I should also mention in this appointment I was - in my opinion - scare tactic'd into starting Humira which has been approved to treat HS. They basically told me that if I didn't treat my HS, the skin around my heart would become scarred and I'd die an early death. Idk how true that is though, it did not sound right to me. I know there are studies linking higher prevalence in heart disease in people with HS... but that's not a great extrapolation either because of the depression, anxiety and exhaustion and other autoimmune diseases we live with. If anyone in the thread can confirm/deny that'd be great because I don't know how true that is, and if they were telling me that to sell me meds. I have never been on Humira.
Additionally would like to add, since I not only have this autoimmune disorder (which is the method of which HS is treated like, an autoimmune disorder) I also have MS and the approach there is- you can't really diet your way out of an autoimmune disorder, although that works for some people, I have not found that changing my diet or water intake changes the amount or frequency in flares. I find as a woman, I peak in flares during PMS/shark week.
I am fortunate to have the means to spend this much $ on my skin and being formerly without options myself I thought I'd compile the list to save some time and money:
So far I have tried the following:
This is all I can think of for now! My go-to routine is wash in the shower with the Mario Badescu AHA soap, after I spray with the Bliss Body Acne spray and then I moisturize with Embryolisse Body Lotion. This has been working for me for a few weeks and I've noticed a reduction in scarring and flares. Again, not 100% effective, meaning I am not cured, my skin isn't 100% clear, but this has definitely relieved a lot of the discomfort I've felt over the years!

InfinityMice Vagabond & Infinite Control

UNBOXING & DETAILS

The vagabond and infinite series pads both feature original characters on the front of their packaging and look pretty clean imo. Taking out the pads is just a simple matter of ripping off the tab on the back and lifting the top flap to access them. Their newest line of pads use a custom PU base with the infinitymice logo repeating throughout. When rubbing my hand along the vagabond's surface, I can kinda feel the logos underneath, but it goes completely unnoticed in-game. For some reason, only some areas of the base have that poron-like stick onto my desk, while other parts just lay there. Whether it sticks or not doesn't seem to be an issue though cause there's zero movement when I push on it; and afterall, it could just be the way my desk interacts with the material. Stitching is thin, soft, and sits below the surface. The infinite series pads all come in a dark shade of red and the vagabond has colorful, eye-catching artwork drawn by say0ranarts.

SURFACE PROPERTIES

Friction & Glide
The vagabond is slightly slower than the venus pro. It's balanced and has good stopping power with a soft base to provide extra control when needed. The glide is smooth and steady, which I quite like. The inf-c is slightly slower than the saturn pro, and has similar stopping power due to the saturn pro using an xsoft base, while the inf-c is soft. The inf-c is also balanced, but the glide does feel slightly more controlled than the saturn pro when swiping around.

Speed (fastest to slwoest): first war >= loque > eba > huoyun se > svbc+ >= venus pro > vagabond > p-51 >= tai bao > pa > ac+ > aczero > saturn pro > infinite control > spyre kamek

Feel
When rubbing my hand along the surface, the vagabond has a slightly rough hybrid texture to it, while the inf-c is more of a fuzzy cottonball-like feeling. In actual use though where only my forearm and parts of my palm touch, they feel like playing on a marshmellow or cloud. Comfort is top tier on these pads and they feel like the most premium pads I've received thus far – excluding glasspads. The soft PU base makes them both very comfortable to lay your hand on and I felt zero discomfort during a long play session.

Abrasiveness on the skin (roughest to smoothest): eq+ v2 > walhaut white >= loque > venus pro >= huoyun se > first war > vagabond > tai bao >> aczero > saturn pro > infinite control > smooth criminal

PERFORMANCE

Vagabond
In the past, I was so used to the harsher textures of pads like the hien and ac+ that I couldn't really notice the feedback on less abrasive pads. However after adjusting to smoother pads over time, I can now appreciate the feedback and comfort they offer. With the vagabond, the feedback is subtle, yet defined enough for me to subconsciously feel while playing, so I still get a good read on my mouse movements, and there aren't random instances of discomfort to distract and break my focus.
Another benefit to the lighter texture is ease in moving my arm across the surface. With rougher pads, I can feel my arm and skin gripping/catching onto the texture a bit, so transitioning to arm aiming with my sens of 43cm/rev isn't as natural and comfortable to do in some quick instances in-game. In chaotic moments, for example, I've mostly been relying on – and am a bit limited to – wrist motions. I also believe this is why I prefer mid-bases for these rougher pads, since my arm isn't as sunken into the surface and as restricted in movement.
\Trying something different by using clips to show what I mean. These are highlights though, and are exaggerated examples, aside from the ashe clip.**
Here's examples of me performing these quick arm swipes on the vagabond in qp (covering name cause I like privacy :p ): [video link]
And here's one with me mostly limited to wrist movements on a rougher pad (svbc+): [video link]
You can see wider motions aren't as steadily paced/efficient with the svbc+ cause I'm resetting in between swipes with my wrist, while on the vagabond, I'm doing single swift motions with my arm. Kinda rambling, but I'm essentially saying I have more flexibility with arm aiming on the vagabond as opposed to the rougher hybrid pads I tend to use. One benefit I find with rougher texture pads though is playing more reactive and microadjusting faster since they typically have a faster startup/lower static friction. I can also catch myself on the surface with pressure to stop flicks quickly. I can't really say for certain whether there's trade-offs in performance with either approach, but it's something I noticed myself doing when switching between these pads. In short, I greatly enjoy the vagabond for ow sniping and tracking due to the wider range I have at my sens. In scenarios where I'm doing multiple microcorrections in a small timeframe (cassidy and valorant rifling), I prefer rougher textured pads like the svbc+ since I can catch myself more easily on the surface to stop and reset quickly -- at least, that's what I'm running with for now.

InfinityMice Vagabond vs. Other hybrid pads
  • vs Venus Pro: My impression is that they're pretty similar in speed – with the venus pro's glide feeling a little slick on smaller movements. With the vagabond, there's a tiny bit more static friction and stopping power. The venus pro is a little rougher in texture and has an xsoft poron base, while the vagabond has a milder texture and features a soft PU base. With some pressure on the surface, I can get more control out of the venus pro than with the vagabond, but doing so does cause a big shift in speed. Which one you like will ultimately come down to preference and your proficiency with utilizing the base. Stitching is like a milimeter thinner on the vagabond, but it really makes no difference and they are both below the surface. The venus pro's stitching is softer though if that's important to you. It's easier to move my forearm on the vagabond cause of how my skin interacts with the texture and material. Overall, I prefer the vagabond's surface feeling and glide, but the venus pro is a very good option and was previously in my main rotation. Both are high quality options that won't disappoint.

  • vs Padsmith First War: The vagabond's surface feeling and glide characteristics reminds me a lot of the first war, but a little slower overall. I prefer the vagabond more as the base gives me better cushion for control, and it's at a more preferrable speed for me and what I'm most comfortable with. The first war uses a rubber base that moves sometimes on my desk when playing, while the vagabond has a custom PU base that really stays put. I perform around the same for tracking, but the control on the vagabond does give me some added flexibility and benefits me in click-timing. The first war's surface is really nice though, and it's supposedly receiving some quality updates in a future revision, which will be a good faster alternative.

Infinite Control
With the slower surface of the infinite control, I play more disciplined in ow and focus on making my shots count since I can't microcorrect as easily and continuously as with hybrid pads. My first bullet accuracy/precision is pretty good on this type of surface since it has decent enough speed while providing great control. There's no tug either as it is quite balanced with low enough static friction, which is a huge plus in my book. I definitely track worse on fast moving targets compared to faster pads, but it's something I can probably improve on with enough adjustment time. Sure, I would prefer if it was a little faster for ow, but it's pure preference. In val, I prefer to use skates that are faster than corepads since corepads are control-oriented and they feel too slow for my liking for those more quick and precise movements. I don't mind using corepads on it in ow cause I'm doing larger and continuous motions, so the momentum kinda overcomes the slowness.

Infinite Control vs. Saturn Pro
  • vs Saturn Pro: The infinite control competes most with the saturn pro in surface and as another high quality option. The inf-c is the tiniest bit slower than the saturn pro. Saturn pro has less initial friction and similar stopping power with its xsoft base. I don't mind using corepads on the saturn pro, but they're too slow for me personally in valorant with the inf-c. With faster skates, this isn't an issue and they perform nearly the same glide-wise, but I prefer the inf-c since you get the slightly slower glued/weighed down feeling that sort of acts like feedback for control and steadies your shots a little better. In contrast, the saturn pro is a little more open/free in its movements. I can microadjust a little quickeeasier on the saturn pro because of this. And as such, I can track a little more smoothly too. Keep in mind, these differences are minor and I'm splitting hairs. They perform nearly the same in-game depending on what mouse/skates I decide to pair them with. The inf-c has a slightly darker shade of red if that matters to you.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

It's pretty awesome of infinitymice to release a whole line-up of pads all at once. There is definitely a surface in their selection that will fit almost anyone, except mudpad users. The vagabond and infinite control are the most premium feeling pads I've gotten so far this year –excluding glasspads– due to their performance, comfort and quality. I would describe them as top tier comfort picks as they are easy to swap to at any time and perform very well due to having some familiarity in feeling with other top performing surfaces. I'm hesitant to call the vagabond my main since in my last review I already said the huoyun se was a contender with the svbc+ as my main, but I can't deny that I perform extremely well – and possibly the best – with it for ow2. The infinite control is a great alternative to the saturn pro if you wanted the tiniest bit more control/slower speed. It's a great option for val, but I typically enjoy something slightly faster and more textured like the aqua control zero. I'm looking forward to seeing what their future art series pads will look like cause I'm really liking the colors and art on the vagabond. The release date on these should be sometime this month, so keep a look out!

VANCOUVER, BC , June 6, 2023 /CNW/ - Usha Resources Ltd.** ("USHA"** or the "Company") (TSXV: USHA) (OTCQB: USHAF) (FSE: JO0), a North American mineral acquisition and exploration company focused on the development of drill-ready battery metal projects, is pleased to announce that it has confirmed the presence of a fertile lithium-cesium-tantalum ("LCT") system at its Gathering Lake Lithium Pegmatite Project (the "Project") located within the Thunder Bay Mining District, Ontario
Highlights:
  • The Company has mobilized its technical team onsite for a two (2) week visit. The Project is recognized as being highly prospective for the discovery of new LCT–pegmatites as it has never been subject to systematic exploration and drilling using modern exploration techniques.
  • The Company has identified beryl and tantalum within pegmatites within the limited exploration completed to-date during this visit, confirming the presence of an evolved lithium-cesium-tantalum ("LCT") system. The identification of beryl and tantalum is a key finding that confirms that the Gathering Lake Project has a highly evolved LCT–system. As tantalum in particular is present in more evolved phases within an LCT–system, this indicates that the system could contain spodumene, the key lithium-bearing mineral in pegmatites.
  • This is the third project the Company has optioned where it has confirmed a potential spodumene-bearing system. An evolved LCT-system was confirmed to be present recently through the identification of beryl-pegmatites on its initial site visit at the Company's Mead Project (see news release dated June 1, 2023 ), and the White Willow Project is documented to have a high-grade coarse-grained tantalite showing with 14.64% Ta2O5, mineralization which is only known to be found at one other locality in Ontario which is the North Aubrey pegmatite at Green Technology Metals (GT1) Seymour Lake Project where GT1 has identified a 9.9 Mt resource at 1.04% Li2O.
  • The project was recently optioned for $12,000 and 50,000 shares and the Company has the right to earn 100% through a total payment of $69,500 and 412,500 shares over 3 years.
The Company has mobilized its technical team onsite for a two (2) week visit and is pleased to announce that it has identified beryl and tantalum within outcropping pegmatites at the Project within its first two days onsite.
The Company acquired the Project because of its high potential to be prospective for LCT-pegmatites, as the claims shared a number of similar characteristics to Rock Tech Lithium's Georgia Lake Deposit, which hosts a 10.6 Mt indicated resource at 0.88% Li2O and 4.22 Mt inferred resource at 1.04% Li2O, and is located approximately 10 kilometres to the west:
  • Lithium occurrences in this field run along a primary fault which runs through Gathering Lake.
  • The regional airborne total magnetic signature for the Georgia Lake pegmatite field indicates that the spodumene pegmatites occur at the margin of a magnetic high, which is what is observed at the Project.
  • The regional airborne radiometric potassium intensity signature for the Georgia Lake pegmatite field indicates that the spodumene pegmatites occur in medium low potassium intensity, a finding that is also observed on the Gathering Lake Project.
The fact that the geology and geophysics at Gathering Lake are similar to the known spodumene pegmatites at Georgia Lake and a lack of previous exploration on the property suggested a strong potential for the discovery of an LCT-system. The identification of beryl and tantalum is, therefore, a key finding that confirms the potential for Gathering to be very prospective for spodumene, the key lithium-bearing mineral in pegmatites.
The Gathering Project was recently optioned for $12,000 and 50,000 shares and the Company has the right to earn 100% through a total payment of $69,500 and 412,500 shares over 3 years.
The Company's initial site visit is on-going, with further prospecting, mapping, soil and outcrop sampling planned, and the Company will provide additional updates throughout the visit and upon its conclusion.
"We are thrilled with these initial findings at Gathering Lake," said Deepak Varshney , CEO of Usha Resources. "With three confirmed LCT-systems, we are building a portfolio of strong properties that will continue to deliver shareholder value. The discovery at Gathering Lake further cements the credibility of our technical team in finding low-risk opportunities to drive value to the company. We firmly believe every asset we acquire has the ability to be the next major discovery in Ontario's growing lithium hotbed and we look forward to advancing this ourselves or as part of a potential partnership beneficial to our shareholders."

The Company announces that, further to its news release of May 3, 2023 , it has issued 275,000 common shares (the "Shares") to 2758145 Ontario Ltd. in connection with the first payment of the Option Agreements with respect to the acquisition of five (5) additional lithium pegmatite projects located in Ontario and known as the "Lee Lake", "Mead", "Bluett", "Gathering Lake" and "Triangle Lake" Projects.

2023.06.06 12:37 boutell New US CHAdeMO chargers in May 2023

Here are all of the new US CHAdeMO (Leaf fast-charging) stations that rolled out in May 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
There were 124 "new" CHAdeMOs added in May. To put it in perspective, there were 112 CHAdeMO chargers added in April. I think the pace of CHAdeMO rollout has stabilized, while the pace of CCS rollout is still increasing. This makes sense given that only Nissan still makes a CHAdeMO car.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.
We all know that CHAdeMO is a legacy format and will eventually go away, but clearly Nissan and their partners are continuing to support it for the time being. This shouldn't be surprising. After all, you can still buy a new Leaf.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or reading these monthly reports is just frustrating in your state, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications only when new stations actually open. You can sign up at evpov.com. I built it to help EV owners like myself (especially my fellow Leaf owners). You can pick other plug types as well.
To streamline this post, multi-chargepoint locations are listed with the number of chargepoints first, so that's why the post is shorter than in previous months.

2023.06.06 12:32 boutell New US CCS chargers report for May 2023

Here are all of the new US CCS (Level 3 fast-charging) stations that rolled out in May 2023, according to the Department of Energy. These chargers are suitable for most new EVs on the market, except for:
  1. Tesla drivers who haven't bought the official CCS adapter yet. Certain older Teslas need additional work done to accept the adapter.
  2. Leaf owners like me, and some owners of older cars that also use CHAdeMO. If you drive a Leaf, or an older CHAdeMO car, see my matching post in leaf.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.
There were 222 CCS charge points added or refreshed in May 2023, which is up from 171 in April. For comparison, there were only 74 new CCS charge points in May 2022. Things are speeding up.
"What about CCS charging at Tesla superchargers?" Tesla is in the process of rolling out their "magic dock" for non-Tesla cars, but so far in very few locations. If they start doing this at scale and reporting it to the Alternative Fuels Data Center then it will be reflected here.
"What about Ford vehicles with NACS (Tesla) plugs?" They are not on sale yet. Current-generation Ford vehicles have CCS plugs. The next generation will have NACS (Tesla) plugs, but will also support CCS via an adapter.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or just prefer not to check this list monthly when new openings are rare in your area, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications as soon as they open. You can sign up at evpov.com. Or not! I don't really have a business plan here, I built it to help EV owners like myself.
To streamline this post, multi-chargepoint locations are listed with the number of chargepoints first, so that's why the post is shorter than in previous months.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking public feedback on DOE’s draft Critical Materials Assessment. This RFI is being issued by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE)’s Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO), with the purpose of improving the DOE Critical Materials Assessment prior to finalization.
Specifically, this RFI seeks input on the following Areas of Interest:
  • Data and Information to Support Revision of Analysis
  • Improvements to the Methodology
Click here to read the RFI, including the draft list of critical materials for energy resulting from this Assessment.
Historically, the Critical Materials Assessment has informed DOE’s priorities for research activities. The dynamic nature of criticality necessitates ongoing updates to the Assessment. Since DOE released its first Critical Materials Strategy in 2010, DOE’s research portfolio has expanded into a Critical Materials Research, Development, Demonstration, and Commercialization Application (RDD&CA) Program. DOE anticipates updating the Critical Materials Assessment every three years to reflect the most current data and market conditions underlying the methodology.
Inclusion on DOE’s critical materials for energy list will inform crosscutting priorities including Critical Materials RDD&CA Program priorities and eligibility for the Inflation Reduction Act 48C tax credit.
Responses to this RFI must be submitted electronically to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) no later than 5:00pm ET on June 20, 2023.
Learn more about DOE’s work on critical minerals and materials to build resilient supply chains that support the clean energy transition.

AUGUST 22, 2022 New Federal Legislation Could Deliver Powerful New Benefits to NioCorp for its Critical Mineralshttps://www.niocorp.com/new-federal-legislation-could-deliver-powerful-new-benefits-to-niocorp-for-its-critical-minerals/

![img](r3crokstcd4b1 " Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 Provides a 10% Advanced Manufacturing Tax Credit Applicable to Most of NioCorp’s Planned Products New Electric Vehicle Federal Tax Credit Tied to Increasing use of Critical Minerals That are Produced in the U.S. or Allied Nations! ")
CENTENNIAL, Colo., August 17, 2022— The “Inflation Reduction Act of 2022,” signed into law by President Biden this week, includes multiple financial and tax incentives designed to encourage greater production of critical minerals in the U.S. Virtually all of the critical minerals NioCorp Developments Ltd. (“NioCorp” or the “Company”) (TSX:NB) (OTCQX:NIOBF) intends to produce as part of its Elk Creek Critical Minerals Project in Nebraska (the “Project”) would be eligible for new tax credits once the Project is financed and placed into commercial production.****ALSO UNDER- Other Provisions That Could Benefit NioCorpOther provisions of the law are aimed at encouraging greater production of critical minerals in the U.S.:$40 billion commitment authority for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Innovative Technology Loan Guarantee Program (Title XVII), on top of DOE’s existing commitment authority of approximately $24 billion. The Innovative Technologies Loan Guarantee Program authorizes loan guarantees for projects that (1) “avoid, reduce, utilize, or sequester” air pollutants or anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases; and (2) employ “new or significantly improved technologies” as compared to commercial technologies in service in the United States at the time the guarantee is issued.

JANUARY 2023 National Defense Act Calls out NIOBIUM & TITANIUM & SCANDIUM & the need to establish a U.S. Industrial Base for the Supply & Processing of ALL!

https://docs.house.gov/billsthisweek/20220711/CRPT-117hrpt397.pdf
![img](9bjhoizsdd4b1 "SCANDIUM PAGE # 246 Briefing on the Establishment of Domestic Scandium Processing Facilities in the United States")
The committee believes the United States industrial base for the supply and processing of the critical mineral scandium has significant vulnerabilities. The committee also believes that the United States should seek to eliminate dependence on Chinese and Russian sources of scandium, with support from allies and partners. Accordingly, public and private sectors should cooperate closely to establish scandium processing facilities in the United States. Therefore, the committee directs the Secretary of Defense, in consultation with the Secretary of Commerce, to provide a briefing to the House Committee on Armed Services not later than May 1, 2023, on public and private sector activities, working with allied nations, to establish scandium processing facilities in the United States, especially facilities based on more efficient, cleaner, and less energy intensive technologies. This briefing will also include how these processing facilities will help the United States reduce dependence on and compete more effectively with China and Russia.
Department of Defense on NIOBIUM PAGE #250 ~Control of Niobium by the Chinese Communist Party~
The committee is concerned by recent investments in global niobium production made by firms under the ownership, control, or influence of the Chinese Communist Party (“CCP”). Niobium is a critical mineral needed for the production of superalloys in jet and rocket engines, critical components in defense systems and hypersonic vehicles, and other emerging technologies. CCP control of niobium and a lack of a domestic capability within the United States present a national security risk similar to risks in the rare earth mineral markets. Therefore, the committee directs the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment to provide a briefing to the House Committee on Armed Services by December 31, 2022, on current global sources of supply of niobium along with a cost-benefit analysis of establishing a domestic supply of high purity niobium oxides. The briefing shall:(1) differentiate between ferroniobium and high-purity niobium (the critical niobium oxide precursor);(2) address the possibility of using underutilized byproduct niobium feed stocks from coproduced materials in the United States to strengthen the domestic industrial base for other key refractory materials such as tantalum; and(3) include a list of defense programs that are significant users of niobium or where niobium is a critical component.
Department of Defense Access to TITANIUM on pages #250 & #253 ~Establishment of Efficient Titanium Processing Facilities in the United States~
The committee is concerned that the United States industrial base for the supply and processing of the critical mineral titanium has significant vulnerabilities, including dependence on strategic competitors for the supply and processing of titanium. The committee believes that the United States should seek to eliminate dependence when it comes to the supply and processing of titanium, with support from allies and partners. Furthermore, the committee believes the public and private sectors should cooperate closely to establish titanium processing facilities in the United States or in other trusted partner countries. Therefore, the committee directs the Secretary of Defense, in consultation with the heads of other appropriate Federal departments, to submit to the House Committee on Armed Services an unclassified briefing not later than December 31, 2022, that includes:(1) a description of the public and private sector activities to cooperate and establish efficient titanium processing facilities in the United States or in trusted partner countries; and(2) an analysis of how such facilities will help the United States reduce dependence on strategic competitors\**.**\**

Modification of acquisition authority under Strategic and Critical Materials Stock Piling Act (sec. 1411)The committee recommends a provision that would amend the Strategic and Critical Materials Stock Piling Act (50 U.S.C. 98d) in order to give the National Defense Stockpile Manager greater flexibility and agility to acquire critical materials, including rare earth elements, that are necessary to meet the requirements of the Department of Defense.Briefings on shortfalls in National Defense Stockpile (sec. 1412)The committee recommends a provision that would amend section 14 of the Strategic and Critical Materials Stock Piling Act (50 U.S.C. 98h-5) to require the National Defense Stockpile Manager to submit, not later than March 1 each year, a briefing to the congressional defense committees on strategic and critical materials shortfalls.Authority to acquire materials for the National Defense Stockpile (sec. 1413)The committee recommends a provision that would authorize the National Defense Stockpile Manager to use, of the funds appropriated for the National Defense Stockpile Transaction Fund, $1.0 billion for the acquisition of materials determined to be strategic and critical materials required to meet the defense, industrial, and essential civilian needs of the United States.
*********Please see Response to the following question: Jan. 2023Jim: Given the information posted above-***A) Can you offer a comment on how the Scandium, Titanium & Niobium mining & processing facilities MENTIONED above would help or affect the outcome of the Elk Creek Mine Project moving forward?*See Response:
"The Congress is focusing more intensely now on the need to encourage greater domestic production capacity of scandium, niobium, titanium, and rare earths. The language contained in the House Report accompanying the FY23 NDAA requires DoD to brief the House Armed Services Committee on each of the topics mentioned related to scandium, niobium, and titanium. These initiatives show that our education efforts, and those of others, are moving these elements to a much higher visibility with Congressional leaders. That is very good for our Project for a number of reasons. The findings and recommendations of these studies can often spur Congress to take more definitive actions (e.g., funding availability) of Projects such as ours."

MAY 25th 2023 ~NioCorp Demonstrates Higher Niobium Recovery Rates New Processing Approach Demonstrates the Ability to Make More Niobium per Tonne of Ore, Produce a Higher Purity Product, and Potentially Address New Markets with Different Niobium Products

https://www.niocorp.com/niocorp-demonstrates-higher-niobium-recovery-rates/
Potential New Forms of Niobium Products and Potential Markets
NioCorp’s new process approach, which incorporates a chlorination step to improve niobium and titanium separation and purification, also has demonstrated NioCorp’s ability to potentially produce three different niobium products: (1) ferroniobium; (2) niobium chloride; and (3) niobium oxide.NioCorp had previously planned to make ferroniobium, which is used by the steel industry to produce high-strength low-alloy steel alloys. Those alloys are used in the construction, automotive and transport, aerospace and defense, oil and gas, and other industries. Niobium is a $3.3 billion per year global market but is currently served by only three major niobium producers in two countries.Niobium chloride would likely be converted by NioCorp into niobium oxide, but niobium chloride is also used in glass and ceramic manufacturing.Niobium oxide is critical to multiple applications, including niobium-lithium-ion batteries, superalloys, superconducting applications, capacitors, specialized optics, and many others. Its use in niobium-lithium-ion batteries is considered by current niobium producers as one of the fastest growing prospective global niobium markets.

Demonstration Plant Shows New Recovery Process May Double NioCorp’s Titanium Production per Tonne of Ore as well as Produce a Higher Purity Product that May Command Higher Market Prices
![img](rtdd7oc8fd4b1 " CENTENNIAL, Colo. This new result points to a potentially large increase in the amount of titanium that NioCorp can potentially produce at currently planned rates of mining ")

THEN THERE IS THE RARE EARTHS QUESTION:Sharing Jims response as Niocorp does have legal DISCLOSURE constraints to deal with in regards to all "Material News releases"! When asked about Rare Earths ON ~MAY, 26th 2023~
RESPONSE:

"NioCorp has not made a final determination on which REE products we will make, including tonnages, etc.. That determination can only be made in the context of publication of an updated Feasibility Study"

A UBI under capitalism would just be used as an excuse to cut all social programs by the capitalists that own everything in the economy. Because they would still need worker insecurity to ensure that workers will still be forced to make there profits for them.
A UBI by it's self is not enough to ensure the rights of working people. Because the capitalist class still holds all the power and can make all the decisions in the economy that effects everyones lives because they own everything.
A UBI under a capitalist economy would have a constant antagonism between the owners of everything that don't want to pay for the UBI and everyone else that is dependent on the ubi to survive. And In end the owner class would win this struggle because they still hold the power over the economy.
We need a complete change in the economy from capitalism to socialism to ensure workers rights are protected. The working class should hold the power not the capitalist class.
Here's a few videos explaining the limits of UBI under capitalism

2.) https://youtu.be/EKFE6rVHyJQ
User B
If we got a $1000/mo uni my rent would probably go up 1000 right along with groceries and everything else and I'd find myself even more poor.
User C replying to User B
No lol that’s not how the world works
User B
Also you're right it's not I was being a bit hyperbolic for flair. However it is kind of the MO of capitalist to see that money as theirs already. If you think inflation is bad now . . .
I'm preeetty sure https://youtu.be/6t7h2VyEm4M
User D replying to User A
I love this subreddit, ubi in the short term would be kinda nice but even for this bandaid solution it has to be fought for, no shot the capitalist class will simply give in. For welfare programs like anything comparable to UBI to exist we must build a socialist society and strip oligarchs of their power.
OP still has lib brain and thinks if we just make demands and propose good ideas things will get done, thats not how the world works unfortunately.
User C replying to User D
I didn’t say we should just make demands and propose good ideas lol I was incredibly precise
Pathetic strawmanning - gtfo
User E
Thank you! I'm tired of posting this sort of counter-sentiment.
UBI (or alternative) is inevitable, but under capitalism it will be used as a kugel against that people who need it most.
I appreciate people's well intentioned optimism and passion about the subject, but we've got a lot of work to do before that happens.
User C replying to User E
So was the CTC used as a kugel?
You must be glad it ended and I assume you oppose its reinstatement for the same reason you oppose UBI?
Pretty indefensible position though considering how much the CTC slashed child poverty
User E replying to User C
Literally every mainstream UBI proposal has said that it will be implemented while slashing other parts of the social safety net.
And that's the IDEALISTIC version compared to what will actually be implemented.
What makes you think that these ghouls in office would do something good without radical pressure? Focus on organizing labor and building radical power.. not just wishing that people working for the billionaires will work for you because you have a good idea.
User C replying to User E
Link to those proposals?
User E replying to User C
Literally the poster child for bad UBI: https://www.vox.com/first-person/2019/12/19/21026925/andrew-yang-disability-policy
And every other capitalist pushing UBI.
Regardless, you are missing the forest from the trees. Meaningful change isn't going to happen via "voting right" in federal elections or coming up with "really good policy ideas". It's going to happen via direct action, and a militant labor movement. Making billionaires and politicians afraid.
We need to focus on building labor power, and once we achieve that then we can get everyone what they need.
A UBI that is implemented before that happens will be a bad faith poison pill.
User F replying to User A
Is it really fair to use your mod powers to push your perspective to the top
User G replying to User A
I have always thought UBI is just a necessary stepping stone, one that could allow the working class enough room to breathe and think to organize and devise a better system. To take the pressure off people just enough to hopefully educate and be educated in order to critically reimagine our socioeconomic system. I never assumed UBI was thought to be a solution or end goal. Personally I'm a proponent of resource based economy, though socialism can be another helpful stepping stone. What are your thoughts on UBI in this context?
User H replying to User G
It's a cute idea but you already said why it will never happen. It's a necessary stepping stone to empower the working class.
User G replying to User H
Yeah clearly that's why it hasn't happened so far, aside from small trials (like the city of Stockton, CA). I'm not (usually) a doomer but I don't smoke hopium either... Never say never. I think it's great that more people are interested in unionizing and are in general gaining more class consciousness, I would really like to see more people spreading the idea of transitioning businesses to worker owned co-ops.

This is the thing though. In order for workers to gain meaningful power capitalists must loose it. This is just how power dynamics work. Workers gaining power by definition means an economic revolution will need to happen. A meaningful UBI cannot exist under capitalism because without coercion capitalism just doesn't work.
User A replying to User G
Yea I don't disagree with that assessment i only wanted to point out that UBI under capitalism has limits and shouldn't be an end goal.
User C replying to User A
Nobody ever said it was an end goal.

MLK would disagree with you and it’s outrageous that you felt compelled to reply as a mod and pin this response

Also don't miss use the report button this comment isn't "trolling"

You’re misusing mod abilities so… 🤷
User A replying to User C
No it isn't outrageous to make a comment explaining that UBI under capitalism won't work and also sharing sources of information about the topic don't know why that bothers you.
Also MLK was a socialist that though "capitalism outlived it's usefulness" so no he wouldn't have disagreed
User C replying to User A
MLK supported the guaranteed income. He supported separating pay from work and he would support UBI now.
Communism forgets that life is individual. Capitalism forgets that life is social, and the Kingdom of Brotherhood is found neither in the thesis of Communism nor the antithesis of capitalism but in a higher synthesis. - MLK
User A replying to User C
I never said MLK was a Communist only that he thought capitalism need to go I also never claimed he didn't support UBI.
I'm only trying to explain that UBI under capitalism won't solve all our problems and without changing who holds power In the economy it's not going to work
User C replying to User A
You’re too mired in “isms”
We need concrete policies. Not just 'isms.'
UBI is a concrete policy that will unequivocally help and create a more egalitarian society.
So is universal healthcare.
Medical debt cancellation is also necessary.
So is free public college.
And the full cancellation of student debt.
We need extensive housing reform, including (but not limited to) the banning of corporate & international ownership of residential properties, a creation of a pathway of ownership for current rental tenants (including a way to get equity out of the years of rent already paid), banning the practice of individual investors hoarding property, etc.
If you frame everything as an 'ism' then it's too easy for people to disagree or dismiss what you're saying, and too hard for others to determine exactly what policies you're proposing.
We must be clear and concise in our demands, and demand actionable policies that legislators can implement.
User H replying to User C
You're absolutely right but you fail to understand all of this will never happen in an economy where a capitalist class holds the power. They won't let it happen. Why would they? You are taking money from their pockets and removing the power they have over their workers. You don't understand that in order to get all of this capitalists will need to loose their power over our lives. You forget the cruelty is the actual point.
Ubi is a concrete policy but you provide no concrete methodology to get those policies. I don't think there is a methodology that exists while capitalists push the buttons.

You really don't get it. You think the working class are the only ones capable of violence. You forget to remember that as throughout history, the established state with a monopoly on legal use of force will use that force to maintain that state. You are advocating for systemic changes but you are unwilling to do the hard part to bring those changes about. That's why they'll never actually happen.

User H replying to User C
The hard part is electoral reform and winning elections and implementing these policies
No, the hard part is going to be when the capitalists come to take back what you stole if they even let you ever have it in the first place.
You have a fundamental misunderstanding of my position. All of the policies you advocate for I want. My position is that these policies are utopian under our current economic system and that systemic change of that system is not possible without workers gaining power over capitalists. I also don't think they'll just give us that power. The cruelty of capitalism is the point.
Get real lol

Soil Test- What happens when you use too much Buildasoil craft blend and re-amend kit
At least I think. The sodium levels are waaaay too high and I've heard craft blend can cause that. This is with 4 runs in BAS 3.0. Less is more or maybe none is more.... That's a lot of sodium!

2023.06.06 06:04 jouneitx Suggestions on how to handle this. I thought it was criminal, but apparently not. Civil matter?

Location: Harris Co, Texas
I have the neighbor from hell. They were nice enough when they moved in around 10 years ago, but within the first 2 years I caught the wife trying to kill our dogs in the backyard by throwing rat poison back there. I have no earthly idea what pre-empted that. I went over to talk to her about it and she S C R E A M E D "f you bitch mother fucker" and kept screaming until I left and called the police. We were not exactly friends, but were well more than cordial right up to that point. The cops came, and she denied it until they showed her video evidence caught by the very edge of my security camera. She was written a ticket. Both dogs survived.
Since then, it has gone downhill fast. She stole a package off my porch, and was caught red handed by the police - but the case was dismissed as they fought it and the officer did not show up to "qualify the body camera footage or his report" which is insane. My tires were slashed. My trash cans stolen. Things have been thrown through my windows several times.
I have spent ungodly amounts of money on home security cameras, but they stay just out of sight from them. I can catch audio of it sometimes, but never fully catch them in the act since the incident with my dogs.
They have installed multiple cameras in their yard right at the property line pointing directly at both doors of my home. I thought this alone was an invasion of privacy, but according to the officers that have come out, it is not. If I step one foot outside... they come running out screaming, threatening, cussing, etc. Every time. And I mean EVERY time I step outside, they come running out within seconds. They have installed floodlights pointing right at several windows of my home (including my master bedroom). There is only 20 feet separating the two homes, so to say it is bright is an understatement.
Last week, they decided to get one of those huge steel pipe wind chimes. I have learned to phase them out as much as possible, but the sound from it kept me up all night. I went to ask if they could please at least take it down in the evening, and was met with the same cussing, screaming, etc. So I called the police again. They came out and agreed that it was a bit excessive, but they wouldn't come to the door, so the police said there was nothing they could do and to try calling during the day. I did, and that spiraled out of control quickly.
The cops asked them to remove the windchime after 10pm or they may get a ticket, and they told the cops to go f themselves. I have no idea how that much was allowed, but it went further as the couple immediately stormed past the cop running at my house screaming they would kill me. I thought SURELY that this would be the final straw. The cops would do something. You cannot just make a threat like that.
But, they let it go. MANY officers showed up, and I was simply told it was "said in the heat of the moment" and that next time we would both be going to jail (I am still not certain what I did, but regardless, they apparently made up something to tell the cops).
Last night, I am woken up at 2am by what sounds like the Notre Dame bells in my eardrums. I look outside, and fully lit - to make sure I could see them - is now 20 of the wind chimes, and an industrial shop fan (those really tall ones that blow a ton of air) knocking them around. I call the cops, and the neighbors won't answer their door, and they tell me there is nothing I can do.
Today when leaving for work, I have them start the usual bs of screaming, cussing, flipping me off - added with turning the water hose on me as I am trying to get into the car.
I fear for my safety, and apparently cannot get the sheriff to do anything about it, even when done right in front of them. I have tried finding a lawyer to either take a case of harassment or get a protective order, but cannot find anyone to take this case. My life is being turned upside down, and I do not want to leave my dream home (on top of it being a bad financial decision at the moment) I have been in for 18 years, because of these two - but this has to come to an end.
Someone, anyone, help. I don't know who to contact or what to do. I would have thought that this was more than enough to justify a criminal harassment case, but according to our sheriff, it is not. I have tried hunting down civil attorneys, and cannot find one either through my own search or referral services for our county. So what is the best means to handle this? What type of lawyer should I be looking for, or is there another route I should go?

“1. Medical problems associated with child marriage and some historical examples
There are several health issues associated with the practice including cervical cancer, malaria, obstetric fistulas, death during child-birth, and increased risk of sexually transmitted diseases. In spite of the popular notion that young marriage prevents sexual promiscuity, research shows that young girls are more likely to become infected with STDs, especially HIV and HPV. Moreover, it is known that girls who give birth at young age (10 - 14) are 5 - 7times more likely to die from child-birth, many times it also results in obstetric fistula, because the pressure of the fetal head on the vaginal wall causes tissue necrosis, and then fistulae develop between the vagina and the bladder or rectum. Vesicovaginal fistulae occur due to sexual activity with girls whose reproductive systems are not completely formed, and traumatic fistulae occur due to forceful penetration and immature vagina. Women and girls with fistulae are often ostracized, especially due to the foul odour. Moreover, it is also known that adolescent mothers are 35 - 55% more likely to deliver infants who are preterm and low birth-weight.The problem was acknowledged by most physicians of the past, such as Hippocrates,Soranus, Paul of Aegina, Rhazes, Ibn Sīna and many others so that they usually advised marrying late. Despite the warnings of many physicians, it was not an uncommon phenomenon in most places. For example, the greek philosopher Plutarch (46 - 119 CE) mentions the common practice of child-marriage amongst the romans:
“The Romans, on the other hand, gave their maidens in marriage when they were twelve years old, or even younger” (τῶν Ῥωμαίων δωδεκαετεῖς καὶ νεωτέρας ἐκδιδόντων). Despite the Byzantine prohibition on sexual intercourse before puberty (around thirteen years), the law was easily contravened, one known example is that the Serbian kral Stefan Uroš II Milutin married Simonis, daughter of Andronikos II, while she was five, however he consummated the marriage before pubescence, so that the girl became infertile as a result. In the Πεῖρα another case is also found where a girl was betrothed at the age seven, while a church ceremony occurred one year later; however, the man did not wait and then raped her, by covering her mouth while she screamed till blood rushed from her ears, it is also stated that her private parts were damaged. The judge punished the man by giving one half of his properties to the girl, the corporal punishment (slitting the nose), however, was not imposed. In the Roman Catholic world, perhaps the most famous example is that of Margaret of Beaufort, who became pregnant at twelve and suffered internal injuries after giving birth.

CHILD MARRlAGE IN ISLAMIC LAW, By Aaju. Ashraf Ali, THE INSTITUTE OF ISLAMIC STUDIES MCGILL UNIVERSITY, MONTREAL, CANADA, August, 2000 (https://escholarship.mcgill.ca/concern/theses/jm214q978 ) pp 106-107 https://escholarship.mcgill.ca/downloads/4j03d1793?locale=en

Medical Consequences of Child Marriage
Modem Medicine shows that childbirth for females below the age of seventeen and • above forty leads to greater maternal mortality as well as infant mortality (London 1992, 501). It must he made clear that although conditions commonly associated with poverty, e.g. malnutrition, poor physical health and other negative circumstances may contribute to difficult births and bad health for young mothers, consistent findings indicate that the age factor plays a significant role by itself. "Even under the best of modern conditions, women who give birth before the age of seventeen have a higher mortality rate than older women. The closer a woman is to menarche, the greater the risk to both mother and child, as well as to the mother's future child bearing capabilities, for the reproductive system has not completely matured when ovulation begins". (Demand 1994, 102).
Another problem seen more often among underprivileged women is that they develop fistulae which is often due to the pelvis not having fully formed. This can be caused by a complicated pregnancy or having intercourse at a very young age.28. This leads the girl or woman to have permanent damage and often she is shunned by her family and community (4). Although such a condition is preventable it requires a good health service and communications systems (S). Unfortunately, these are often not available in impoverished areas of the developing world.
Knowledge of medical complications involved with early marriage cannot be considered "new" findings. Ancient and Medieval Medicine texts indicate that doctors were well aware of the physical harm posed to girls by early marriages and pregnancies. ……..In fact, not only doctors of Medicine but other scholars in Most societies had a clear understanding that intercourse should not take place before the menarche. Hesiod suggested marriage in the fifth year after puberty, or age nineteen, and Plato in the Laws mandated from sixteen to twenty years of age, and in the Republic he gave the age as twenty. Aristotle specifically warned against early childbearing for women as a cause of small and weak infants and difficult and dangerous labor for the mother, and the Spartans avoided it for just those reasons. (Demand 1994, 102)
Nevertheless, Greek culture in general, like so Many others, disregarded such realities and continued to favour early childbearing (102). Rabbis too were aware that pregnancy in such young females was undesirable because the birth could result in the mother's death. "They could not, however, outrightly prohibit such maniages, which were common practice in the Orient . . . therefore [they] recommended the use of a contraceptive" (Preuss 1978, 381).
 P32
“When examining the scholarly opinions surrounding the issue of chiId marriage, one cannot help but note the lack of acknowledgment of psychological factors that may he involved in potentially abusive situations. As was mentioned previously in the case of the Ja'fan madhab, reference is made to financial compensation for a girl who bas been forced into sexual relations when her body is not yet capable to endure intercourse (due to lack of proper or full development) and who may suffer from irreparable damage done to her reproductive organs. Marriage serving the child's best interests is also taken into account. The Hanafi madhab (as mentioned above) even considered the option of puberty as being a sufficient safety-net for those children who had been married to unsuitable partners, either suffering abuse or some form of disharmony in the relationship.”
 and P33
“Sarakhsl states that considering that 'A'isba is believed to have been sent to the Prophet's home at age nine, one may conclude that whenever a female child is "capable" of enduring intercourse, it is acceptable to marry her. Indeed, he mentions the possibility of fattening up the child to make her appearance more "healthy" and less fragile (213). Abü yusuf goes so far as to say that depending on her peers and what is the general trend, even if she is five years of age, she may possess sexual desire and thus there is no fixed age limit (104).11 11 Sorne modem scholars have postulated that these juists, dealing with the matter from a purely male perspective, appear to have been giving the age of a female, not when she begins to experience sexual desire, but rather when she may begin to hold sorne sexuaI appeal for a male counterpart? Thus, explaining their frequent concern with her appearance.
No punishment for man who rapes and badly beats 10 year old child-bride..

“In another example, the question is brought forth about what must be done in the case of a ten year old girl who is married to a man by her family. Her family made the condition that the man lives with them once married to their daughter and not move to another place. They also stipulated that the marriage not he consummated until one year later. No mention is made of the girl's status as pre-pubescent or otherwise. One might assume that she had not reached puberty, given this latter parental stipulation regarding consummation of the marriage. As it turns out, the husband took the girl away to his house after all and consummated the marriage. He then travelled with her to another place and he beat her very badly, as reported by some midwives. When they returned from their journey he refused to allow her family to see her and continued to beat her. The question asked was, should she be allowed to stay with him in these conditions? Understandably, Ibn Taymiyya's answer is that such a situation cannot continue and the two must he separated unless the husband ceases from abusing her once and for all (167). No mention is made regarding a possibility to punish the husband. Of course, once again, the judgement is simple and to the point.”
 and
P35
“Ironically, however, the same concern for a child's welfare that might have led to his or her marriage may have also often led to his or her maltreatment. The jurists were not unaware of the potential problems child marriage could bring about. Indeed, some scholars did speak out against the practice precisely because they believed it did more harm than good. The majority, however, seemed to have a different sense of priorities than what one might consider today.”
Pious and Rebellious,Grossman, Avraham;,Brandeis University Press.
Intense opposition to the marriage of young girls is brought in the name of R. Shimon bar Yohai, that “Whoever marries off his daughter when she is young minimizes the bearing of children and loses his money and comes to bloodshed.”5 5. Avot de-Rabbi Nathan, Version II, ch. 48, p. 66. The concern is that the young girl may become pregnant and die as a result. https://www.sefaria.org/Avot_D'Rabbi_Natan?tab=contents "Composed: Talmudic Israel/Babylon, c.650 - c.950 CE Avot d’Rabbi Natan

2023.06.06 02:26 bie716 Singapore experts of r/bangtan! What advice and recommendations do you have for ARMY visiting Singapore for the SUGA Agust D Concert? (16 - 18 June 2023)

In just under two weeks, ARMYs will descend upon Singapore to see SUGA! Help an ARMY out and let them know about safety, how to get around, where to eat, tourist attractions, BTS-related things to do, or anything else that you think someone should know when they visit! (Special thanks to the mods for your input and feedback for this guide!)

BTS' Past Visits

Red Bullet Tour (2014 BTS Live Trilogy Episode II) at the The Star Performing Arts Centre (13 Dec 2014)
Music Bank performance (4 Aug 2017) at the Suntec Convention Centre
Love Yourself World Tour (19 Jan 2019) at the National Stadium
This made history as the first time a K-pop group held a concert at the venue (largest concert venue in the country) and tickets sold out in about 3.5 hours! (45,000 audience)

Concert Venue

Do note that it’s currently the June school holidays too (26 May-26 Jun), so the Sports Hub and surrounding areas may be crowded with many other visitors besides the concert-goers. Please be mindful!

Sightseeing/Activities

Non-exhaustive list (all prices are in SGD)
(Note: You may want to check out Klook for discount tickets/passes)

Dining

Singapore is a food paradise with various cuisines from the local ethnic groups, as well as international ones. For Muslims, there are a lot of Muslim-owned or Halal-certified options around (look for this certificate, or the label “Muslim-owned”), including most of the fast food chains like McDonald’s/KFC/Burger King/Subway.
Carrying some cash with you (~$10 per pax) is a good idea, especially if you’re venturing out to hawker centres; while many places now have an electronic payment system in place, cash is still king in terms of versatility, and anecdotally most stores prefer cash or will charge a credit-card payment surcharge.

Where to eat?

What to eat?

Breakfast (These are generally very affordable options that should cost you below $10 per person, particularly if you go to food courts/hawker centres)
Lunch & dinner
Snacks

Getting Around

Singapore has a great public transport system. It’s really easy & cheap to get around on the MRT (mass rapid transit trains) and buses. Use Google Maps or the City Mapper app to navigate yourself and get route recommendations (the latter also has transport arrival timings and fare estimates. It also works in many cities globally, so is very useful for tourists). Various transport passes are available for tourists, but you can also use your contactless credit cards (Visa and Mastercard) to pay for the fares (no registration required).
In general, using the Circle Line (yellow) or Downtown Line (blue) should get you to most tourist attractions. Orchard Road (main shopping belt) can be accessed via the North South Line (red), between Orchard and Somerset MRT stations. Map for reference, with links to versions in Chinese/Malay/Tamil available for download.
Taxis and ride-hailing cars: We have Grab and Gojek in place of Uber.
General navigation
All signs are in English, and the locals - esp the younger generation - are able to speak English fluently. If you’re really lost, feel free to approach others to ask for help! People are generally friendly and helpful despite initial appearances :)
As a side note: in general, if Google Maps is asking you to circle around a building to get somewhere - don’t. You can cut through most places on the ground floor quite easily, even the residential buildings (unless they’re private properties like condominiums/landed housing). MRT stations are connected to a good number of places via sheltered corridors if they’re nearby enough. Enjoy the aircon & shade instead of walking outside in the heat if you can.

Shopping

Weathewhat to wear

The weather is especially hot these days (max temp of up to 35 degrees celsius, or 95 Fahrenheit), with possible spurts of heavy rain at certain times of day, so dress light and carry an umbrella (most places do have sheltered walkways between buildings and bus-stops/MRT stations though, so don’t worry too much about getting around in the rain). Mall air-conditioning can be cold, so hv another layer (e.g. cardigan/wrap/scarf) on hand. Remember to hydrate frequently & avoid staying outdoors for too long!

Airport

We’ve tried to achieve a balance between being succinct and informative, but certainly the above info is not exhaustive. So do feel free to ask in the comments below if the info you need is not here! Fellow SG ARMY, or those familiar with Singapore, feel free to chime in!
