The artists, Dr. Anthony Fleg, Mallery Quetawki (Zuni), Blythe Mariano (Diné), and Chilán Mustain, worked together to create an installation in motion, and the vision they bring to this space is from a contemporary perspective on how Native art is presented. This is an innovative view for visitors to see that Native art is changing and adjusting to the times. 2023.06.08 05:45 5carletKnights Is riding exercise?
Got my first bike in 3 years last Wednesday, I had a small crash about an hour after buying it, (under throttled on a banked curved and ATGATT) I was fine, bike was fine. Since then I’ve put on just under 400 miles. Every night around 11 I leave the house and I don’t get back until 1 or 2. No maps just riding. This is what I’ve done instead of going to the gym, and I’m just curious if it’s healthy or not.

2023.06.08 05:38 Gutattacker2 LMT’D gen 2 (watt cadence sensor) 2022 review (June 2023)
I have close to 2500 miles on it; the vast majority done in the first 9 months. It’s been an exceptionally wet winter (Mountain West, USA, 5’11, 200lbs) so I haven’t ridden as much in 2023 relative to 2022.
The good: price for power is awesome. You can do better by doing an illegal diy build but for a value purpose built commuter bike I’ve been happy. Great motor response, comfortable ride, no major failures so far. I like the good brakes and the suspension. I may upgrade to a suspension post or just get a gen 3 for torque sensing.
The bad: chain drop, battery, one size fits all. I bought a narrow/wide 44t 130mm chainring which solves much of the chain drop. If you get a larger chainring make sure you get it tuned otherwise you’ll get chaindrop. Battery is probably at 60% original and that may be from my poor battery maintenance but I suspect I will have to buy a new battery soon. Fortunately, it’s not too expensive. Because there is only one size you may have to tweak it to fit your style the best.
Verdict: for a commuter that can do light trail work (once you upgrade the chainring) it’s hard to beat the value. I don’t want fenders and the current gen 3 is a torque sensor so I think it’s a good bike. The Aventon lvl 2 doesn’t have as much power but is a good alternative for a commuter. I’ve sampled the Specialized commuters (Como, Levo, Tero X) and found them overly built and felt like I was driving a nimble yacht rather than a bike. They’re big (but good) bikes in comparison.

2023.06.08 05:25 itskrittle Stolen Bike from Spirit Mountain
2023.06.08 05:05 416DreamCrew Need help deciding between buying a used 2022 Fathom 29 2, brand new 2023 Fathom 29 2 or brand new Trek Roscoe 7
Hey guys, long time listener, first time caller.
I have been in the market for a hardtail that I can ride on the local dykes, trails, and a little bit of commuting on pavement. I am wanting to also dip my toes into legit local mtb trails and hopefully buy something that I can grow into and upgrade over time.
I haven’t had a bike since my first one got stolen in the 5th grade and have been doing as much research as I can but I’ve got major analysis paralysis. Help me decide please! These are my options:
A) $1200 CAD - Used 2022 Fathom 29 2
The seller says it’s lightly used and he bought it in March. The pictures look like they back that up, not really any noticeable wear or tear. It’s also registered under a local bike registry to the seller and he’s willing to let me take photos of his ID + sign a purchase agreement, so I’m fairly confident it’s not stolen. I’ve read about the 1x10 and Deore/praxis stuff possibly not being the best, as well as the Tektro brakes and the rims being tubeless ready, but not coming tubeless. Could use the 600-800 dollars saved for some upgrades? Any thoughts?
B) $1800 CAD +Tax - Brand new 2023 Fathom 29 2
Would be buying this brand new from my LBS. They’re a giant dealer but the owner is very knowledgeable and helpful. Would have the peace of mind of warranty and buying it from the store where I’ll do most of my purchases/repairs. Looking at the differences between the 22/23, it looks like the major (only?) difference is that it’s full Deore, rather than Deore/praxis… is that worth the extra 600+ bucks? Is there anything else I missed that would make it worth it?
C) $1878 CAD + Tax - Brand New 2023 Trek Roscoe 7
Again would be buying brand new from a local Trek dealer, but when I went in last I didn’t get very good customer service so that initially turned me off. Otherwise, the Roscoe 7 has the 1x12 and RockShox Recon compared to the Crest on the Giants (heard that the “clicking” issue on the Creat has been mostly figured out and a lot of the complaints I’ve read have been from 21/22. Also has 140mm of travel compared to 130mm on the Giant, Tubeless tires come stock, better brakes, and apparently the Deore M6100 crankset is awesome.. again I don’t know anything other than the research I’ve done recently, so please correct me if I’m wrong. Are these upgrades worth $700+ more than the used deal I could get?
I also believe they all have tapered head tubes and thru-axles, which is paramount for upgrading down the road (does Giant have thru-axles on both wheels, if not, is that a big deal?).
Please help me decide so I can truly join the hardtailgang!

2023.06.08 05:04 fc_run How big of a mistake is a older Cannondale 2000? How about for someone newer?
Me: Mostly half and full marathon runner, crosstrain with stationary bikes on occasion to build aerobic capacity while not adding wear and tear. 6'0, +4 ape. Looking to get off the stationary bike, utilize the big paved trail network near me, and possibly get into du/triathlon down the road. Student level budget caps out at $300-400 if I get out of another hobby so used is the only reasonable option.
The deal ($400 listed): Cannondale MS2000 (cir 1999 based off colorway)
pic 1,
pic 2,
pic 3,
pic 4 Sportneer magnetic trainer generic bike rack
Concerns: Age - I'd consider myself pretty handy, and am not put off by the idea of an older bike. I don't know if 23 years old is pushing it both in terms of reliability and industry improvements. I know I'm not getting anything recent, but is pre-2010 a bad thing in bikes? Tri geometry - Conventional and written wisdom say to get a normal road endurance bike because of traffic, riding skills, and agility. I don't plan on using a bike to get around town, this would primarily be for purposed training in the 1-2 hour ride range on stretches of bike trail and some open roads. Not riding with people and the surfaces I'll be on are in good shape. It's a lot of bike? - I saw some reference to it being a bit hard to ride. I might be over estimating my fitness and strength, but I have solid lifting numbers.
Why the suboptimal choice? The used options at my size (60mm), location (high demand), and budget going into summer are sparse: 2014 Cannondale Synapse for $600, 2018 Giant Contend SL for $500, and Giant OCR 2s and Fuji Newest 4.0s are selling for 300-400 around me, not much out there right now.
It was serviced by a local shop recently, is there anything I should ask or check on, or should I re-evaluate what I'm doing?

2023.06.08 04:54 StarlitMeadow- Golden Ears Park
I’ve been wanting to visit this beautiful park for a long time, and finally have the time to do so since moving to the lower mainland. I am always anxious going to new places, so I’m just wondering if anyone could tell me if the Google maps directions will take me to a parking lot where some of the trails start? From my understanding the park is also a campground, but I’m just wanting to do a 1-2 hour hike. Can anyone give me some advice about where to start from? I would so appreciate it!

2023.06.08 04:41 rusted_shut Which ebikes can be ridden without a battery?
| I’m in the market for an eebs that can be ridden without a battery installed. So far I know of the transition relay and the Rocky Mountain altitude/instinct. I’d like a bike that I could potentially use for shuttle or chairlift days as well as riding my local trails. Trek pic posted because pics are fun and it was one of the last bikes I test rode. Don’t think I can take the batt out on that one easily. submitted by rusted_shut to eMountainBike [link] [comments] |

“Jeeze prom already,” groaned Mai. She and I have become great friends. “What no one has asked you,” I state. We get to our outside table and wait for Bryan and Knight She takes the little bento box out and eats he chicken salad before telling me “No with these glasses I look like Velma from the Scooby gang.” Knight comes and sits next to her and says, “I like Velma Daphne is annoying.” She blushes and I ask where Bryan is “He’s trying to get into Hannah’s pants” Bryan comes up and tells Knight to shut up. “I was not she wants tutoring in Biology” we all giggle but then Bryan gets out his notebook about the mine tunnels. I tell them about my dream “Seeing the floors shake it could have been what my cousin calls a backdraft. If the fire started in one end because of the oxygen it got carried into the tunnel below that bathroom and spared from there.” After lunch we sneak into the building and go see the area where the old bathroom was. We find a classroom and the door is unlocked. After I went in, I felt the presence of the boy I first saw. “The fire was hot and fast we all smelled smoke and it smelled like cleaner.” Telling him in my mind “think it was Ether maybe used in the mines, but I am not sure.” He tells me about the rumbling when we are interrupted “Hey what are you four doing in here its lunch time outside.” I tell everyone “Yeah outside buy the grass “and everyone follows me outside. Once out at the grass I get everyone up to speed “Alright Scooby Gang here is what the boy now I know his name Jimmy Dawson.” I told them what he said in the class but then he pops up next to us to ask about the school now “It look different” I look around and gather everyone near me, so it looks like we are having a conversation.” It got rebuilt after the fire, Bryan when the wing was built over the old bathroom and theater area.” Bryan scrolls through his notes and tells us “In 2003 before that it was all portables and theater were held over at the community center.” Bell rings and we get to class but before that Knight asks Mai to prom, “Really you are asking old four eyes” I ask Mai why no contacts and she says, “Mom and Dad work hard at the church but with my astigmatism no contacts except out of pocket.” Bell rings and it’s time for class, “See you after school Bea” Bryan says. I forgot we were going to learn some more dance lessons no one knows, not even Knight. Once I get my homework done and Bryan sets new clean dishes out, we get out back and practice some steps. “Alright now left, right forward backwards, it’s just a box step nothing to be nervous about.” His Mom puts on some Dwight Yoakam and with Guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music… we learn the box step. Bryan is still nervous. Kayla agreed to go with him but she’s on the dance team and he wants to impress, “You have some basics down “but before I finished, he asks to slow dance. “She likes to slow dance and I don’t want to step on toes.” I can only smile it’s so sweet and Kayla is a nice chick, so I pull out my phone and put on Play it Again its slow enough but still has a good beat, “Save us Luke Bryan” he groans but we get the slow dance finished. I scooter past the cemetery and hear some men speaking Chinese I guess; I shall ask Mai what some of this means. Getting ready for school I looked up some words that I could identify by sheer luck, and one was Zai xiuxi it means at rest so hopefully Mai can put the rest together. “Good morning, Grandma Dee where is Mom?” Grandma says Mom went to work early so she can be home later to go shopping for Prom dresses. My turn to groan “I don’t even have a date, and no one is jumping at the chance to ask the weirdo out.” Grand ma feeds me some bacon and eggs, “You are not weird and there is still time baby.” “Good morning, Scooby Gang, up for an adventure at lunch” Bryan was especially chatty today. We all nod and agree to meet by the back gate after the bell rings. Walking to my second period class Jim appears and tells me “Be careful young lady those tunnels are still dangerous, not safe.” I ran into the door frame and some boys chanted “Weird “so now it official. Lunch came around and Mai is jazzed she also confirmed that the men might be saying in Mandarin we are not at rest “which makes since because I bet, they just buried them, and they did not get any dignity. We see the boys and Bryan shows us his big surprise. “Check this out see those old looking barns, well they are entrances to the mines, look I took pics off dad’s maps.” We looked through them and yes, they did have an entrance because the operations were near here. “Great find maybe we get down there and solve this because there are some restless souls here and I can help them move on.” We group text about going to the tunnels and agree Mai can spend the night and the guys will meet us at the entrance. Logistically we will figure out how to get there. Friday comes around and Mai gets in the car with Mom and I. “Its nice to see you Mai we will get pizza and wings for dinner tonight since it’s a sleepover.” Mai and I agree and set up the air bed for her “Okay girl spill any dress yet and what do the rents think.” She tells me they like Knight, but his look concerns them, and she has told them many times he does not worship the devil. After dinner Mom leaves for work and an hour after that Grand ma Dee is driving us to the old barns “Look I am responsible for you too and the boys I guess so don’t go to far in and here’s some flashlights.” The boys show up on bikes and are a little worried about Grandma “Don’t worry she just drove us she heard us talking and didn’t want us to get hurt.” All three of us walk carefully inside and already I can see the commotion from that day. Turning a curve, I stop everyone and listen to a man talk about a charge. “The charge was to short dam foreman was a cheapskate the bang was instant” I scream and fall backwards thankfully everyone caught me. “No one stood a chance this was no accident that foreman did this because of money there was no more, and it was finish or not be paid, so he tried to speed things up with more dynamite.” The janitor wasn’t at fault as the mining company was.

2023.06.08 04:10 DarthNater66 Wish I didn't have to look at the map so much.
I wish they had the option to put a trail marker on the actual ground so I could look at the game more than looking at the map to make sure I'm headed in the right direction. It's a beautiful game, I want to enjoy watching it more lol

2023.06.08 04:10 PeddlerDavid Rock plate for cycling in flat pedals,
Trail running shoes sometimes have rock plates to distribute the pressure of rocks beneath the foot. Has anyone found Rick plates to be effective at mitigating foot discomfort from pressure on the pedal while cycling?
Bonus points if you’ve got DIY tips :)
After many years of cycling with clipless pedals I have struggled with knee pain in recent years while riding with clipless pedals, but not with flat pedals. However, after a couple of hours of riding in any of the shoes and pedals I have tried the pressure of the pedal causes discomfort on the bottom of my feet. This was not an issue with stiffer clipless pedals. I have gone to larger platform BMX style pedals, but no joy. I haven’t found shoes with soles stiff enough that might alleviate the discomfort. I have I have a 4 week long tour planned for this summer and I’m looking for a shoe that will be comfortable both walking and biking.

2023.06.08 04:08 instant_klassic Upgrade question
I've had a 2014 Santa Cruz Chameleon 27.5" for almost 10 years. I ride a wide range of terrain in the interior west at, I guess, an intermediate level. I'm considering getting a 29" full suspension trail bike, e.g. Propane Hugene. My main objectives are to climb stronger and faster, climb more technical stuff easier, and to have fun and push myself on long variable descents. Not trying to jump stuff.
Should I just get a modern 29" hardtail?

2023.06.08 03:19 BlindBandit988 Just want to tell someone how amazing my kids are
Today I woke up to my daughter (7) bringing me breakfast in bed. No special reason, just because she wants to do something nice for me. Nothing fancy, just microwave French toast and toaster waffles and orange juice, but the fact she woke up this morning and immediately thought about making me breakfast (things I had shown her literally the day before how to make on her own) is so incredibly sweet. Then, I took my kids for a bike ride on our local bike/walking trail. We were going to have a fire and make s’mores later that night, but I started to feel super nauseous and bloated so when we got home I decided to just lay down for a bit and see if it passed. It didn’t. Well instead of pestering me and making me get up a million times my kids kept coming to check on me, lay with me and bring me some things to snack on (they came back out soon after eating them). Then I hear the bath running and my son (9) told me to get in and relax. He ended up making both of them dinner (microwaved leftovers lol) and my daughter was sound asleep in my bed while he was watching tv in the living room. Honestly, what did I do to deserve such amazing kids? They’re so sweet, smart and kind hearted to everyone, even their dad who they only see for MAYBE 48 hours a month and never ever calls them.

2023.06.08 03:03 morningdew11 Marin vs Surly
Hi folks, After researching and test riding for about 2 weeks now I have decided on a steel frame gravel bike. I live in a rough urban area and love the smooth ride on the steel. Also, would love to plan some bike packing trips in the future, but this bike will mainly be used for urban and lite trail riding. I’m torn between the Marin Nicasio + and the Surly Preamble drop bar.
I’m not too familiar with the logistics of all the small things such as brand of disc breaks, hubs, shifters, etc. I’m mainly concerned with not knowing which one has better components. I like to buy quality and would love any guidance you may have for choosing one.
For reference I’m a petite female and prefer the 650 wheels that come on both bikes in my size. Thanks

2023.06.08 02:41 MadMadameMim86 Cyclists at the missions
I work near one of the missions. They have beautiful trails and apparently it's a cyclist hot spot. I drive through there multiple times a day and 80% of the time someone is riding a bike through there. It doesn't usually bother me. Get your cycle on. Get fit. Enjoy the area. I don't even mind driving behind cyclists. What does bother me is that a pack of 40+ cyclist cut me off after running a stop sign and proceeding to run another stop sign. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't cyclist required to obey vehicular traffic law? These aren't the first numpties I've seen run the stop signs either. I'm just really annoyed with this shit.

2023.06.08 02:23 Tangsta1 Canyon Spectral 125 CF 7 or Neuron CF 8?
I have a big enduro bike that I love (WR1 Arrival 170) but live in an area where the trails are very mellow and more trail/cross country style. I’ve come into some Canyon credit after winning a bike raffle and want to buy one of these two bikes. I need a good climber but I really don’t want to change my jibby playful style. Is the Spectral 125 a good enough climber to not make it feel sluggish?
BTW, I travel a lot for bike trips too so I’m definitely keeping to Arrival.
