Only playing a few days. Built a few small bases but kept restarting. Finally started a game and got an amazing all female team of 3. Built up an awesome base and was determined to make it through the winter. It's early Fall and got a quest to go and collect a stash that had a telescope. Thought that sounded awesome so sent my amazing hunter (Ark) and melee (Blue) as backup. Easily dispatched 2 Yorkshire terriers and collected telescope.
On the way back, raiders burned my base to the ground and kidnapped my lone pawn, Professor Boots, who was stationed there and who I hadn't realised was incapable of violence. (I also hadn't realised my traps had been disabled by a "Mad Mare" some days earlier.) Almost quit but then I saw the message "you might be able to rescue them in the future". Amazing! Decided to take the challenge. Got back to base and nothing left except smoldering ruins. With all foods stores burned and close to starvation, Blue has "major break", goes into a rage and... destroys telescope. Typical. After a difficult few days, managed to get a small hovel set up and thanks to Ark's amazing hunting skills got on top of the food situation. Feeling good about situation.
It's mid-Fall, Ark is near the corner of the map hunting some wild boar. Get raided. She is knocked out and picked up by the lone raider. Blue is agonisingly close to getting there in time but Ark is carried over the edge of the map.. kidnapped. Bummer. I get the same message about rescue. I decide I want to keep playing and try to get the OG gang back together, no matter how long it takes.
Down to one, I spend the days honing Blue's previously non-existent hunting skills and improving the base. I have 100s of wood stored and meat in the freezer. Made a parka. Despite the depressing nature of the situation, pretty sure I will actually survive my first ever winter.
Winter comes, just passing the days hunting. Midwinter, a quest appears: Boots has stolen a radio and told me where she is being held! I hesitate only to craft 10 more meals then form a caravan and set out. When I get there, she is in a cell with 1 guard and 2 turrets. The turrets are covering Boots' cell but I'm not sure if I can somehow disrupt their power supply. I decide to give it a go as I feel like this is the beginning of getting the gang all back together. I am able to lure the guard away from the turrets. I hit him with my bow but he still makes it into melee. He bludgeons me to death. It is the end.
Genuinely had more fun, memorable story and LOL-moments in just a few hours of Rimworld this evening than I probably have with the last few years of gaming!! Can't wait to try again. Cheers.

my mic was working just yesterday and after a power outage it stopped working. i have a razer seirin mini and the light is on for the mic but the sound isn't and i can't find the drivers for the mic at all they just dont show up. anyone have a fix?

I thought the digital factory part at the end was the most interesting part, but just for inclusiveness I'll mention some of the talk preceding that. The talk starts at 21:00 in the video with AI-enhanced ray tracing. He (Jensen Huang) demos a new product for using AI to generate video game assets. He shows an AI character that was given a backstory and from there, a large language model could generate all its dialogue.
After that, he talks quite a lot about how we now have a "new computing model" where "the data center is the computer". The basic idea here is that "AI supercomputers are a new type of factory". "Every company will have AI factories. AI factories produce your company's intelligence."
We now have a software capability to learn the structure of almost any information. We can learn the structure of text, sound, images, physics, proteins, DNA, chemicals, you name it. Anything that has structure, we can learn that language, including of course actual language, such as English, Chinese, Japanese, and so on.
With generative AI you can make use of that knowledge of structure, with the control/guidance coming from another source of information that we call prompts. We can generate text to text, text to image, text to proteins, text to chemicals, 2D images to 3D images, video to video, you name it.
He goes in to some detail regarding the hardware that makes this possible and how spending more on Nvidia hardware is actually cheaper in the long run because you get more computing power per unit cost and get more computing power per unit energy.
They call their AI supercomputer "Grace Hopper". The "Grace Hopper" AI supercomputer, makes a whole supercomputer function as if it was gigantic GPU.
I'm going to skip over the hardware. Ordinarily I think it might be quite interesting but I thought there was more interesting stuff in the keynote. If you're a hardware nerd, definitely watch that part of the video.
Ok, getting to about 1:47:25 in the video, he talks about "heavy industry" and introduces the idea of "reinforcement learning for physics feedback".
The idea is that what made large language models (LLMs) useful was reinforcement learning with human feedback (RHLF), a technique that trains the model to give responses that a "helpful to humans". Nvidia is working on something analogous they call "reinforcement learning for physics feedback", which is getting AI models to correctly understand physics. This is what will enable the use of AI models in factories.
He presented Nvidia Omniverse Factory Explorer, a factory digitization system. The idea is you put your whole factory in a physics simulation. Design not just your products but your entire factory digitally before you build it in the physical world. Or, make a "digital twin" of your existing factory. Plan ideas for changes digitally, then deploy in the real factory.
Omniverse Factory Explorer comes with an assortment of features, such as Omniverse Replicator, which can generate simulated manufacturing defects that occur in the real world, but are costly and you want to avoid them in the real world.
Finally (around time code 2:04:20) he announces Isaac AMR. (AMR stands for Autonomous Mobile Robots). Nvidia thinks the time has come for robots in factories that aren't anchored down, but are mobile like human factory workers. They built a robotics stack top to bottom, from the chips to the algorithms to the sensors to the cloud component. They made a new processor chips called Oren specifically for mobile robots, they made algorithms for state-of-the-art multimodal (vision, audio, tactile) perception, state-of-the-art mapping algorithms, state-of-the-art localization and planning, and they made a cloud-based mapping system.
So far, robotics and the ability to do things in the physical world has been lagging behind AI art and language and creative capability purely in the mental world. People working on AI systems have been shocked by the time compression, seeing things happen now that they didn't think would happen for decades. Is a similar time compression shock around the corner for robotics capabilities in the physical world? I would have thought no, but Jensen Huang seems to think so.

Due to a very fast moving wildfire my tenants had to evacuate, they barely had time to get their pets. Power will have been out for 7-10 days min. Summer temperatures. We both have been seeing advice on the facebook group to just throw the fridge out. Neither one of us had ever heard of this before. Legit advice or not? Basically:

1. Clean fridge out and continue to use it, or
2. Tape fridge shut and toss it.

I'm not trying to be cheap or screw my lovely tenants, it's just a replacement fridge might be hard to get due to the number of people who may also be looking for a fridge. 10K+ evacuated.

I hope I’m alone in this. But something feels very, very off in Diablo IV’s progression. I know the internet loves misery and complaint. I absolutely hate that I feel this way. I just needed to get it off my chest. I just didn’t know how else to process this shock.
I have about 10,000 hours into ARPG as a genre PoE, D3, D2, Grim Dawn, Titan Quest, Last Epoch, Torchlight, ect. This genre always felt like a hit of crack pipe to me (assumed) in that I always felt the dig of “A little more.” One more chest, one more dungeon, one more map, one more rift, one more mob. It was ALWAYS addicting.
I feel… nothing… like that in this game. I enjoyed the story (problems aside). I LOVE the world design. The sound and creature design. The conceptual design of the game is amazing. It’s all that I wanted. I want to be in the world and turn the next corner. But I don’t feel HOOKED. The first night I played three hours and just… turned it off and went to bed. I never would’ve predicted being able to just set it down and walk away so easily.
I have about 22 hours into the game. I know that sounds like I am hooked. I’m not. Most of the fun was from talking to friends on voice and watching TV in the background. I cleared the story, opened World Tier 3. I did a bunch of Whispers and cleared dungeons for aspects. I’m past the first main node in the Paragon board. And all the while I’m vaguely bored with it.
I think I’ve identified some of the factors and I’m sure that there are even more contributing. The positive element is that they’re all systems, and systems can be changed. This world is so amazing, if they can tweak and hit that “crack pipe” feeling this game will be near infinite potential. But for now, it’s sadly not there, for me at least.
1) Gear itemization is weak.
Affixes are largely un-inventive and are so tiny in impact that there is little feeling difference between two items excluding legendary or unique affixes.
2) Skill “twig” is merely decorative.
There is so little power conferred to your character through skill point investment outside binary have/don’t have a skill and the Ultimates. In D2 I frequently could corpse run to collect gear due to my CHARACTER being powerful and my gear buttressing that power. The values are so small, I felt no different investing points.
3) World scaling.
I have no measuring stick. I cannot find an area of the game in which I can compare my prior self and measure the difference. Every percentage power gain I can amass, it seems all enemies also accrue a nearly identical amount. Scaling is always hard to nail, but this game seems to stick to a nearly 1:1 ratio between your character and mobs. Imagine a world where scaling is tipped ever so slightly in favor of the player, maybe 1:0.85. You’d still never feel a strong power spike, but over time things would start to feel better.
4) Too much power is centered on a few small groups of affixes.
The only time I felt a lasting shift in my power was when I had an item drop that buffed a skill. It was a binary change from the skill feeling nearly useless to having it become useful. The shift was sudden and only occurred once. It happened randomly, and due to nothing special I did as a player. It was pure, dumb luck.
5) Slower combat pacing.
I actually think this is largely a good thing. I found bossing more fun that clearing trash so far. However,when mobs are spaced far apart and are smaller in number (especially pre-mount) and can not be handled quickly no matter how small they are, they overstay their welcome and lead to things feeling like a slog when they don’t have to. I think generation is slow and expenditure is weak relative to time investment. There isn’t enough hp delta between a high priority target and a nuisance creature. You can mask this a bit by making the small mobs die faster, you might have a fight last just as long but the death of mobs being spread more even across that time might smooth this.
There are likely more contributing factors. These are just the ones I noticed readily. It’s painful to admit this. I hate that I feel this way (numb) toward the backbone franchise of my most beloved gaming genre. I’ll probably still play a lot if not for duty and lack of better alternatives that I haven’t already milked thousands of hours from. I hope no one else is feeling what I am. But I’m guessing it’s not unique to me.
To cap this though, I want to re-iterate that this is all repairable. And that gives me hope.

Into the forest First off a bit of info about me: i have been a dnd player for about 6 years and a dm for about three, my discord is masterdragon#0058.
Deep in the forest a group of nobles is lost, each noble is from one of the major regions or independant (noted at the end of the post). The game is on a Sunday night 8pm cet and will involve how you got into this strange forest and your own homeland. Slight elements of just sandbox are also included since you can in theory go to A map of the area will be provided with markers on each of the major points of interest. Sols blessing, the mighty nation of his holiness the late Sol. The nation of prosperity. veneficus argenti, The great artificers, led by their mighty artificer-lords. the realms of Alfheim, the glorious Aelven nations, from the mighty forest bound Dark Aelves, or the light Aelves in their city of marble and chalk. The restles, the unholy necromancer empire, with their wretched 32 families, mighty but lacking in morals The veil knights, mighty sorcerer and wizard lords, lacking in emotion but fond of power. (in concept a lot alike the red wizards of they.) The taken, once mortals in their mysterious soul keeps set in every territory, young children are taken to become something different, stronger faster. Omnium, ancient warriors now born from stasis fields, led by Kairuth, a vengefull lord. Once they were powerfull enough to kill god, now they are naught but a shadow of that glorious empire the empire of Aerilon, the magic hating nations in their mighty islands, their homeland blighted by magic. If you choose this you cannot play a caster unless its a banished noble, they ran away or they do it in secret.

Simply open up the codex. Search for the power you want. Then select to pin it, this is X on PS5. Pull up your map and look where to go. This even works through the fog of war.

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellions is a psuedo-4x RTS developed by Ironclad Games. Released in 2012, Rebellions is the 3rd expansion to the popular game that dared to ask if Civilization would have been more fun if it had space ships and aliens.
We play as the commander of a space faring civilization that has decided it would be better off if everyone listened to us. Why? Because screw them. We set out to conquer our foes through military, economic or diplomatic power.
Gameplay consists of typical 4x shenanigans. We will start out with a small fleet and just our planet to command. From there we head to neighboring planets, claim their resources for our own and continue to grow our armada. Eventually engaging in ship to ship or fleet to fleet combat with factions that don't realize they don't stand a chance against us.
The Good
One of the first things people will mention when they talk about Sins of a Solar Empire is, "Isn't that the game where you can zoom?" It sounds like a silly thing, but the first time you zoom way out to see your empire, then zoom in to a single fighter engaged in combat in one of your star systems in the span of a half second without any stuttering or load screen...it's just so freaking cool.
The modding potential for Sins is pretty rad. I only checked out a few, but there's more total conversion mods than you can shake a fist at. Star Wars, Star Trek, WarHammer, Halo, Wing Commander, Freespace, StarGate, Babylon 5 and so on. Whatever you fancy. Using my armada of ESD's and TIE fighters to wipe out the rebellion made me giggle a little in my cold black Empire heart.
The scale of battles is really cool, when you're throwing like 40 warships at an enemy and watching as everything just plays out in real time. You can micromanage the battle yourself, or assume you've thrown enough stuff at the enemy so you can go off and do some empire management. Whether it's delving into tech trees or telling other factions, "This is what happens when you make me mad" and point to the battle you're...hopefully...winning. There's a lot to do in Sins but it's all presented very efficiently making it a game that's easy to start in but with enough depth such that there's always new stuff to learn.
The Bad
The AI is atrociously bad, such to the point where playing single player quickly loses its luster. On the lower difficulties I was able to crush my enemies with not much thought put into it, and at higher difficulties it was a 50/50 gamble on whether or not the map favored me enough that I could keep up with the AI economically.
That lead me to multi-player. If you try to play random games it gets...really toxic really quick. Veterans will boot you for not having many games played, or you'll get picked on super early. I joined the Discord server and then was able to get a few decent games going.
The Ugly
There's no story or plot to speak of. That's pretty par for the course for 4X games though so it's not exactly that big of a deal. It made downloading a mod almost a must for me though because it's hard to care about defeating alien civilizations you know nothing about.
Final Thoughts
It took a little bit, but I eventually found some people to play a few games with. Unfortunately it's not an easy game to just pick up and play for a few minutes here and there. The single player doesn't showcase how much fun it can be. For multiplayer you have to set aside a huge chunk of time and I just can't do that reliably anymore. Sins does make me wish I could though.

Dookie-Nimrod (1994-1998): Boom - put the band on the map.
Warning (1999-2003): Bust. Yes, we all know it’s an underrated album or something like that, but it didn’t sell well and the band was getting upstaged by blink-182 at this time.
American Idiot-21CB (2004-2010): Massive boom, obviously. 21CB didn’t have the same staying power as its predecessor but still had a couple of hits.
Trilogy (2012-2015): Absolute bust. Some of this is due to factors like iHeartRadio, but it didn’t help that the band dropped three albums of mostly filler with no hits.
Revolution Radio (2016-2017): If Dookie and AI were nuclear bombs then RR is more of a Roman candle, but it’s still a high point in the band’s late career.
Father of All (2020-2021): Bust. Sold awfully, critics weren’t kind to it, and many fans don’t care for it. COVID didn’t help, but this album also kinda sucks.
Present day / 1972 (2022-present): It will have been about four years since FOAM when #14 is rumored to drop — the same waiting period between Warning and AI and the trilogy and RR. If past history is anything to go by, we may be due for a classic Green Day record with this next one.
Or at least, this is the copium I’m madly huffing in anticipation for it. Please hurry I am becoming more and more unhinged by the day waiting for this shit to drop. The fact that I wrote this entire essay is clear proof of that.

I apologize in advance, in my haste to try to fix the problem I did not take a picture of the state of the desk when I saw it. But this is what happened:

• Went out of town with my family on vacation, my desk was left in my 'stand up' position
  
• We found out during our journey that the power to my neighborhood was out and stayed off line for about nine hours
  
• When we returned, I walked into my office to find my desk completely lowered on the left side! The side the power plugs into was completely bottomed out, and the right side was still extended to 110.
  
• both legs were on angle and this must have only worked due to the hardwood floors and nothing in the path
  
• I tried to lift the 'low' end of the desk and had my son hit the down button, but both legs tried to lower!
  
• Eventually I got the 'A5e' error... looked up how to fix that, and it is 'hold the down button until it says RST
  
• I pull the power and replugged the desk in, and eventually the down button worked and the 'tall' leg came down, but I needed to remove my computer from the CPU mount to get it hit bottom so the desk would reset
  
• after RST showed, I was again able to get full use of the desk again
  

Very frightening as my monitors are on arms and they swayed a bit during the non-level movements.
Has anyone seen this before?
Why would the desk when losing poweor when having regained it, have only one leg collapse? Was this a power loss issue and it slowly went down over the course of the nine hours?
I wonder when I should do to keep this from potentially happening again?
