2023.05.28 18:30 jdpm1991 Why is Ashley Marin seen as a good parent?
Sure she gives Hanna and her friends unconditional love and support but that's about all she does. She doesn't actually parent her daughter she enables her impulsive behavior and never actually lays down the law.
I know she overcompensates because Tom abandoned them for another woman and her daughter but Hanna's the way she is because Ashley was a bad parent.
imo the only good parents in the show are Wayne and Pam. Sure Pam was homophobic in the beginning but she had beautiful character development after she started seeing things from Emily's point of view when Paige's father started ranting about the "gay agenda" in season 1.

2023.05.28 15:56 ZealousJelloh In my late 20s and still read gay-themed comics and stories because it's as close as I'll ever get to having the kind of relationship that I want
Shit's pathetic. I feel like a scumbag reading comics about high school and college kids coming to terms with their sexuality because I still fucking can't. It's a wall I just can't get over. I've tried so many fucking times: Gay bars, support groups, dating apps, therapy. But I just can't.
So instead I read these immature fanfic-tier stories like a fucking creepy voyuer and wish I was in them. Leeching a phony emotional gratification off them because it's that or nothing.

2023.05.28 15:15 abcdedcbaa Bi-erasure, gay gaze, and other shenanigans
I just want to vent out because I really couldn't get this off my chest. It's not really about just a casual joke but how it triggered again my dislike on gay culture. Even if I don't have a hetero SOGIE (I'm sexually fluid), it has been hard for me to belong to even just a small gay clique because of ignorance and unkindness among themselves.
About two weeks ago my brother invited me and my sisters to drink. We went out and drank in a bar and we were really enjoying ourselves specially because we haven't hung out for quite a while now, I mean, at least 7 years since we last drank together. After drinking in a bar he invited us to go to another bar that has a drag show. I was really excited because I've recently just been converted into a drag race fan after watching the first run of RPDR PH early this year.
Tbh the show had always been problematic for me because 1. I had never been able to dig it, same thing why I don't understand cosplaying or period dramas. I understood the discipline of costume and its semblance to more fine artsy form of fashion but I always knew it wasn't for me. 2. When I first attempted to watch it, I just stopped the video when I saw the muscular crew in their underwear. Sometimes even being catcalled by contestants themselves. I felt a bit offended for them. Like isn't this the same reason why we are hating on shows like Willy Revillame's: women in two-piece in the background, gyrating for cis men's objectifying eyes. Gay gaze is as oppressive as male gaze. Really hated it and I still couldn't get past it.
Anyway so we went to the place-- I already forgot its name. It's at the back of Rapture tho I'm not even sure if that place is still running.-- It seemed like we went there too early because there are still just a handful of people there. The hosts even noticed and greeted us. Also apparently before the show, a pair of transwomen hosts entertain the goers and would ask them to sing karaoke on stage. But before one sings, the hosts would interview you.
Time flew and we were enjoying the kanal humor of the hosts interviewing the people until they pressured our table to sing. We decided that our brother should sing and he obliged without any reluctance, we all grew up signing karaoke and it's part of family tradition anyway. On stage he was asked by the hosts usual questions: his name, about us siblings etc. eventually he was asked about his sexuality. Gays are always frizzy about other people's sexuality ano eventhough I still think it's supposed to be private. I remember a presscon where Tom Hardy was asked if he is bisexual. Instead of answering the question, he asked the journalist why he is asking a private question. If you think that Tom was just being sensitive, in extreme lengths, people just be outing other people.
My brother answered. We were all expecting the same answer: straight. But with a nervous tone he said he is bisexual. The face of my sisters when he said that. He is 34 years old and he just went out of the closet to us on stage. I was shocked but was really happy for him. Of course I always knew. My sisters never did. But I was happy that he finally had the courage to do that.
The host didn't know that and just went on with their question. I'm still silently celebrating in my head then they said the joke. "Bi now, gay later". Then proceeded to expand on that saying that men are just claiming that they are bisexual until they become exclusively gay once they get comfortable.
You know what this is? It's the same close-minded homophobic jokes of straight men about gay people. Straight men only like women so they think men liking men isn't natural. Gay people can only think that, because they only like men, bisexuality shouldn't be real. Denying bisexuals of their own identity while complaining that this fucked up society is giving them the same hell. Do not tell me that this is just a joke and I should just take it lightly because we all know that it's a genuine perspective from them told in a humorous manner. There's a difference. This ticks me off because this is the same reason why my brother took this long to come out as bisexual and had to endure years of self-shaming. The community that's supposed to accept him always say shit like this. And places like those, LGBT bars, are supposed to be a safe space, not just a haven to be non heteronormative but to be yourself, not just being gay.
I've read a study few years ago that closeted men are most at risk to contract HIV for so many factors. And a lot of bisexual men are closeted because even the community itself banishes their identity. The bi-erasure front comes directly from gay people. Bisexuals are gays of the gays. The gays do to them what straight people do to gays. It's fucking ridiculous.
But what else do we expect? Even among gay people they do shit like "masc only" segregation or they don't even know what a real versa top is, or the peak bi-erasure thing where they define a gay as "bi" if he is "no trace" or discreet. What kind of uneducated kajologan is that? On top of that, in relation to the RPDR crew, gays encourage each other to catcall men specially online. I cringe when straight friends do this and I still cringe when gay do this. It's just so easy to hate people with penises.
I tried but eventually just gave up to have a feeling of belonging with this ignorant and toxic community. I know education depends on the economic status so I can still believe that this ignorance can't be blamed to urban poor gays but I also see and hear this from gay guys who have post grad, who have the means so I don't think it's an issue of education anymore but it's a systemic mindset embedded within the culture.
Of course all of this just went over the head of my brother and let go of the "joke". He sang on stage and went back to us. Im just happy that he enjoyed that night and was drunk AF he threw up on the stretches of Aurora Blvd.

2023.05.28 10:06 Geist_Lain Texas AG Ken Paxton impeached, suspended from duties; will face Senate trial
Defying a last-minute appeal by former President Donald Trump, the Texas House voted overwhelmingly Saturday to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton, suspending him from office over allegations of misconduct that included bribery and abuse of office.
The vote to adopt the 20 articles of impeachment was 121-23.
The stunning vote came two days after an investigative committee unveiled the articles — and two days before the close of a biennial legislative session that saw significant right-wing victories, including a ban on transgender health care for minors and new restrictions on public universities’ diversity efforts.
The vote revealed substantial divisions within the Republican Party of Texas — the largest, richest and most powerful state GOP party in the United States. Although the party has won every statewide election for a quarter-century and has controlled both houses of the Legislature since 2003, it has deep underlying fissures, many of them exacerbated by Trump’s rise and influence.
Few attorneys general have been as prominent as Paxton, who made a career of suing the Obama and Biden administrations. One of Trump’s closest allies in Texas, along with Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Paxton unsuccessfully sued to challenge the 2020 presidential election results in four states.
Attention now shifts to the Texas Senate, which will conduct a trial with senators acting as jurors and designated House members presenting their case as impeachment managers.
Permanently removing Paxton from office and barring him from holding future elected office in Texas would require the support of two-thirds of senators.
Impeachment was supported by 60 Republicans, including Speaker Dade Phelan and all five of the representatives from Collin County — where Paxton and his wife have lived for decades. All 23 votes in opposition came from Republicans.
Afterward, Paxton called the vote “illegal, unethical, and profoundly unjust,” adding that he looked forward to a quick resolution in the Senate.
The move to impeach came less than a week after the House General Investigating Committee revealed that it was investigating Paxton for what members described as a yearslong pattern of misconduct and questionable actions that include bribery, dereliction of duty and obstruction of justice. They presented the case against him Saturday, acknowledging the weight of their actions.
“Today is a very grim and difficult day for this House and for the state of Texas,” Rep. David Spiller, R-Jacksboro, a committee member, told House members.
“We have a duty and an obligation to protect the citizens of Texas from elected officials who abuse their office and their powers for personal gain,” Spiller said. “As a body, we should not be complicit in allowing that behavior.”
Paxton supporters criticized the impeachment proceedings as rushed, secretive and based on hearsay accounts of actions taken by Paxton, who they said was not given the opportunity to defend himself to the investigating committee.
“This process is indefensible,” said Rep. John Smithee, R-Amarillo, who complained that the vote was taking place on a holiday weekend before members had time to conduct a thorough review of the accusations. “It concerns me a lot because today it could be General Paxton, tomorrow it could be you and the next day it could be me.”
Saturday’s vote temporarily removes a controversial but influential Republican figure in Texas and nationally. He has led an office that initiated lawsuits that overturned or blocked major Biden and Obama administration policies, particularly on immigration; sought to reverse Trump’s electoral defeat in 2020; aggressively pursued voter fraud claims; and targeted hospitals that provided gender care to minors.
The Legislature had impeached state officials just twice since 1876 — and never an attorney general — but the House committee members who proposed impeachment argued Saturday that Paxton’s misconduct in office was so egregious that it warranted his removal.
“This gentleman is no longer fit for service or for office,” said committee member Rep. Ann Johnson, D-Houston. “Either this is going to be the beginning of the end of his criminal reign, or God help us with the harms that will come to all Texans if he's allowed to stay the top cop on the take, if millions of Texans can’t trust us to do the right thing, right here, right now.”
Rep. Charlie Geren, R-Fort Worth, a member of the investigative committee, used his presentation time to criticize Paxton for calling representatives as they worked on the House floor to “personally threaten them with political consequences in the next election” if they supported impeachment.
Speaking against impeachment, Rep. Tony Tinderholt, R-Arlington, called the process “wrong.”
“Don’t end our session this way. Don’t tarnish this institution,” Tinderholt said. “Don’t cheapen the act of impeachment. Don’t undermine the will of the voters. Don’t give Democrats another victory handed to them on a silver platter.”
The vote came as hardline conservatives supportive of Paxton’s aggressive strategy of suing the Biden administration were lining up in support of him. Trump — a close political ally to Paxton — blasted the impeachment proceedings as an attempt to unseat “the most hard working and effective” attorney general and thwart the “large number of American Patriots” who voted for Paxton.
Trump vowed to target any Republican who supported impeaching Paxton, adding after the vote: “What is our Country coming to?” In the evening, he called Abbott “missing in action,” asking followers on his Truth Social network, “Where is the Governor of Texas on his Attorney General’s Impeachment?”
As lawmakers listened to the committee members make their case, Paxton took to social media to boost conservatives who had come to his defense, including Trump, U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Georgia, and conservative radio host Grant Stinchfield, who tweeted, “Kangaroo Court in Texas.”
About 90 minutes into the debate, the official Twitter account of the Texas attorney general’s office began tweeting at members of the committee to challenge some of the claims being made.
“Please tell the truth,” the agency’s account said.
Under the Texas Constitution, Paxton is suspended from office pending the outcome of the Senate trial. The Senate had recessed before the House voted to impeach, and Patrick, who presides over the Senate, did not immediately respond to a request for comment about a timeline for an impeachment trial.
Because Paxton was impeached while the Legislature was in session, the Texas Constitution requires the Senate to remain in Austin after the regular session ends Monday or set a trial date for the future, with no deadline for a trial spelled out in the law.
The constitution also allows the governor to appoint a provisional replacement. Gov. Greg Abbott had not weighed in on the calls to impeach Paxton and his office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Saturday.
Impeachment represents the greatest political threat to date for Paxton, who has been reelected twice despite a 2015 indictment for felony securities fraud and an ongoing federal investigation into allegations of official misconduct that began in 2020.
The impeachment vote capped a tumultuous week at the Capitol. From Tuesday to Thursday:
Paxton abruptly accused Phelan of presiding over the chamber while drunk and demanded that he resign.
The House General Investigating Committee revealed it had been investigating Paxton in secret since March.
The committee heard a three-hour presentation from its investigators detailing allegations of corruption against the attorney general.
The committee’s three Republicans and two Democrats voted to forward 20 articles of impeachment to the full House.
Paxton, who was comfortably elected to a third term last year, made a rare appearance before assembled reporters Friday to criticize the process, saying he was not given a chance to present favorable evidence. He called impeachment an effort by Democrats and “liberal” Republicans to remove him from office, violating the will of voters and sidelining an effective warrior against Biden administration policies.
“The corrupt politicians in the Texas House are demonstrating that blind loyalty to Speaker Dade Phelan is more important than upholding their oath of office,” Paxton said. He added, “They are showcasing their absolute contempt for the electoral process.”
Many of the articles of impeachment focused on allegations that Paxton had repeatedly abused his powers of office to help a political donor and friend, Austin real estate developer Nate Paul.
In fall 2020, eight top deputies in the attorney general’s office approached federal and state investigators to report their concerns about Paxton’s relationship with Paul.
All eight quit or were fired in the following months, and most of the details of their allegations against Paxton were revealed in a lawsuit by four former executives who claim they were fired — in violation of the Texas Whistleblower Act — in retaliation for reporting Paxton to the authorities. Paxton’s bid to dismiss the lawsuit is awaiting action by the Dallas-based 5th Court of Appeals.
According to the lawsuit, the whistleblowers accused Paxton of engaging in a series of “intense and bizarre” actions to help Paul, including intervening in an open-records case to help Paul gain documents from federal and state investigations into the real estate investor’s businesses. They also accused Paxton of directing his agency to intervene in a lawsuit between Paul and a charity, pushing through a rushed legal opinion to help Paul avoid a pending foreclosure sale on properties and ignoring agency rules to hire an outside lawyer to pursue an investigation helpful to Paul’s businesses.
In return, the whistleblower lawsuit alleged, Paul paid for all or part of a major renovation of a home Paxton owns in Austin. Paul also helped Paxton keep an extramarital affair quiet by employing the woman Paxton had been seeing, the lawsuit said, adding that the attorney general may also have been motivated by a $25,000 contribution Paul made to Paxton’s campaign in 2018.
In their report to the House General Investigating Committee on Wednesday, the panel’s investigators concluded that Paxton may have committed numerous crimes and violated his oath of office.
Investigators said possible felonies included abuse of official capacity by, among other actions, diverting staff time to help Paul at a labor cost of at least $72,000; misuse of official information by possibly helping Paul gain access to investigative documents; and retaliation and official oppression by firing employees who complained of Paxton’s actions to the FBI.
The articles of impeachment accused Paxton of accepting bribes, disregarding his official duties and misapplying public resources to help Paul.
The articles also referred to felony charges of securities fraud, and one felony count of failing to register with state securities officials, that have been pending against Paxton since 2015, months after he took office as attorney general. The fraud charges stem from Paxton’s work in 2011 to solicit investors in Servergy Inc. without disclosing that the McKinney company was paying him for the work.
The impeachment articles also accused Paxton of obstruction of justice by acting to delay the criminal cases with legal challenges and because a Paxton donor pursued legal action that limited the pay to prosecutors in the case, causing further delays “to Paxton’s advantage.”
Taken in total, the accusations showed a pattern of dereliction of duty in violation of the Texas Constitution, Paxton’s oaths of office and state laws against public officials acting against the public’s interest, the impeachment resolution said.
“Paxton engaged in misconduct, private or public, of such character as to indicate his unfitness for office,” the articles said.
An attorney general had never before been impeached by the Legislature, an extraordinary step that lawmakers have reserved for public officials who faced serious allegations of misconduct. Only two Texas officials have been removed from office by Senate conviction, Gov. James Ferguson in 1917 and District Judge O.P. Carrillo in 1975.
If Paxton is to survive, he will need to secure the support of 11 senators. With the 12 Democratic senators likely to support his removal, any votes for acquittal would need to come from the 19 Republican members.
Several Republican senators issued statements Saturday evening warning constituents and others that their role as jurors in the upcoming impeachment trial prohibited them from discussing the case. In a television interview Thursday, Patrick said merely that he believed senators would be responsible jurors and “do their duty.”
A complicating factor is Sen. Angela Paxton, R-McKinney, Paxton’s wife. State law requires all senators to attend an impeachment trial, though whether she will recuse herself from voting is unclear.
Paxton’s political base lies in the far-right faction of the Republican Party, where he has positioned himself as a champion of conservative causes and a thorn in the side of Democratic President Joe Biden. Paxton has criticized his opponents as RINOs (Republicans in name only) who “want nothing more than to sabotage our legal challenges to Biden’s extremist agenda by taking me out.”
He also retained the backing of the state Republican Party, led by former state Rep. Matt Rinaldi, who frequently attacks Republicans he considers to be insufficiently conservative. On Friday, Rinaldi said the impeachment was Phelan’s fault for allowing Democrats to have too much influence in the House.
“The impeachment proceedings against the attorney general are but the latest front in the Texas House’s war against Republicans to stop the conservative direction of her state,” Rinaldi said in a statement.
Paxton also has maintained a close relationship with Trump and filed an unsuccessful U.S. Supreme Court challenge to the 2020 presidential election. Paxton also spoke at Trump’s rally in Washington on Jan. 6, 2021, shortly before the president’s supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol.
Ken Paxton has plagued Texas for far too long. I'm glad to see a modicum of justice being done.

2023.05.28 08:16 Mediocre_Hat4988 AITA for asking my boyfriend to reconsider his friendship with a guy who bullies my brother?
My (28f) boyfriend (28m) and I went out with a few friends of his after work. One of his friends, Anthony (30m), used to be coworkers with him and still is coworkers with my brother, Jesse (30m). Anthony has always been an outward asshole, one of those guys that will push buttons and "never truly means it" according to my boyfriend.
Before tonight, I had him in the neutral category if not slightly disliked. Tonight, however, as we were out, he decided to bring up how he thinks my brother Jesse is gay. This is constant work conversation for them, I have intimate knowledge of these interactions as Jesse and I have talked before about how brutally he is ridiculed at work and is the butt of every gay joke in the shop (these are construction type guys). I can see the hurt on his face and know him so well that it hurts me too. When Anthony started joking I ignored him but he continued to say "no for real, Jesse is gay! Have you seen his hair?!?! Here, let me show you photos of this guy he looks like" with me directly there. Jesse was not even there so I'm not sure why the conversation came up other than it was an opportunity for Anthony to be a dick and claim he was just being funny. I'm the younger sister but I've always been very protective of Jesse. He has the kindest heart and has been screwed over by women so many times that he has given up and keeps to himself even though he is lonely.
I got upset at Anthony but told my boyfriend I didn't want him to say anything to Anthony for fear it would make the bullying worse at work for Jesse. At the next bar we went to, my boyfriend and I got into a heated discussion about Anthony and his assholery. I was fed up with him even though he hadn't said anything else about Jesse. I told my boyfriend Anthony was a bully and an asshole and if he said one more word about Jesse I'd kick him in the nuts. BF got upset about this and said why can't I just relax and let it go, I said if his sister was being called a whore repeatedly by someone I called one of my best friends he would feel the same way. (It made sense in my brain). I stormed out and said "I'm done with Anthony, he's an asshole, I don't know why you keep defending him, I'm effing done" and walked out.
BF said that Anthony is just that way on his exterior and that I'm being too sensitive and Jesse should stand up for himself. In a perfect world, Jesse would stand up for himself but he goes along with the jokes to not get hurt more I think. Either way, I deeply despise Anthony and don't want anything to do with him. They became best friends through the job MY BROTHER got my BF after I had started dating him.
Tomorrow we are going to discuss what to do about the fact that I can't STAND Anthony and think he's a bully but BF is close with him. Honestly I don't want them to be friends unless Anthony can stop being such a dick to everyone in the name of "tough exterior" because I don't want to put up with him and have to see him all the time.
Am I the asshole for asking my BF to reconsider his friendship? And what do I do if he wants to be close friends with him still?

2023.05.28 08:11 cgjkbvc Bouncer didn’t let me into my favorite dive bar :(
I’m just kind of sad and it seems so silly to be sad about so I figured this is a good place to get it off my chest.
Whenever I go out, I end up going to the same gay bar that I’ve been going to for years. This bar has such a special place in my heart—I know the history of it, it’s helped me feel comfortable in my sexuality, I’m familiar with the bartenders and regulars. I have so many stories that have taken place there, and know all the urban legends of the place. When I’m there, it almost feels like I’m going to hang out at my friends basement or something.
There’s usually a line but I never mind. I smoked with my friend and we waited for a bit. Now, while we were waiting, several people started arguing with the bouncer. There was a group who had stepped outside for a smoke and wanted to go back in, and the bouncer kept saying he didn’t recognize any of them. Then, another person started telling him that she was mad that their friend had reported a creep to the bouncer and he was very dismissive.
The group in front of us was pretty obviously underaged so he told them they couldn’t go in… then he turned to my friend and I and told us they were at capacity and would let us in in a minute.
He then let in about 8 people who showed up off the sidewalk…. When someone on the street stood up for us asking why he let them in front of us he just said we had to wait till more people left. He then let the underaged girls in and we left.
My friend and I were behaved, cute, and of age. This is not the type of place where you have to ~be somebody~ to get in, it’s a dive bar… I can’t figure out why he snubbed us. I’ve never had a problem with him in the past, but I have heard people say they don’t like him.
I’m just really disappointed and I feel embarrassed, and annoyed that I will never know for sure what happened. The story with the other girl made me pissed too.
Ugh!

From past experience, 90% of my tinder matches usually end up in fizzed out convos without in person dates
Fwiw, I’m also a shut-in who doesn’t go to gay bars or clubs

2023.05.28 06:32 maallyn Observations While Dancing
Folks:
As many may know, I dance in a lot of places in our beautiful town! On the streets; in the weight room of the YMCA; at the Senior Center; At the Re-Store's annual party; at our own gay bar, Rumors; in some of our parades; at the Taylor Dock during Music on the Dock; and, of course, our own delightful Elizabeth Park concerts.
It's a real joy; it's invigorating; it helps me stay in shape; but I have noticed something that I am questioning.
Many people express appreciation of my dancing in my colorful clothing, which I do appreciate. But I notice that most of the people who show the greatest appreciation are women; women of all ages from teenagers to those well north of my own 70 years old. In fact, many women ask if they can dance with or merely join in with me while I am dancing! This was especially true at the St. Patricks Parade, where I represented the YMCA. And at the Taylor Dock.
What bothers me as a gay man is that much fewer men show appreciation to my dancing and barely any men (including at our gay bar) have offered to dance with me. And yes, this entire town should know that I am gay (after all, I have spread this around, especially when talking about Arthur). In fact, on a few occasions, men have turned away from me when I am dancing. I noticed this a bit especially while I was dancing at the Art Festival at the Ferry Terminal. It was all women who showed appreciation and only women who offered to join in with me.
Mind you, I do fully appreciate you women showing appreciation and dancing with me! Thank you!
But being a gay man, I would appreicate at least some of the same from the men?
I find this very interesting and just a touch troubling.
But, thank you women out there who love this!
Love
Mark Allyn

2023.05.28 06:32 ark_hunter Chilled Monkey Brains
| Trying to mix something up that is fitting to “chilled monkey brains”. Just got this mug. It was from Jock Lindsey’s Hanger Bar in Disney Springs. (Semi Indiana Jones themed) Probably doesn’t need the mint but I had it around. Honestly, all it needs is a large pile of crushed ice and the red drink or whatever spirit poured over it. I didn’t want to use that much ice since I was just testing tonight. This is basically a modified “Trinidad via Kingston” from modernTiki.com. I used Amari de Angostura instead of .5 oz of Ango, but still added a decent “float/lots of dashes” of Ango to the top. (For blood) Alternative ideas welcome. I thought about grenadine, raspberry liquor, and cranberry as more red alternatives. I’d also like to add TF Cremè de Banane in the there too. IMO the original drink and presentation was a miss. I haven’t had the “cool-headed monkey” or whatever they call it but it was on cubes ice and no garnish or attempt at trying to be “brains” so I’m trying to improve the concept of the mug. (Their drink may taste great IDK, I didn’t have it) Drink needs to be red and tropical on crushed ice probably, as mentioned above. submitted by ark_hunter to Tiki [link] [comments] |
2023.05.28 05:23 Gaythrowaway87 How to make friends with people who want you around?
I don't know if this is the right sub, but I need some advice.
I am a 36M and I'm openly gay, but not flamboyant or effeminate. I strongly prefer hobbies and bars that are more geared towards heterosexual communities.
I have struggled all of my life in maintaining close friendships. People fade away after a while, and in many cases, I almost never see them outside of certain specific cases. For example, I enjoy line dancing and I know plenty of people at the bar we dance at, but no one really wants to hang out with me elsewhere, no dinner, no trips, no nothing.
These people ask me where I was when I don't show up, but don't care enough to do other stuff with me or really get to know me when I am at the bar.
I have a bucket list of things I want to do: go on a trip with friends, go camping, go off roading, visit another country, etc etc. And all of these things either require a lot of money (which I have none of) or a big group of friends (which I also have none of).
I'm in a pretty shitty position and I don't know what to do. I partly blame my inability to make friends on the fact I am gay and that people are uncomfortable with that, even if they are friendly to me.
Any suggestions?

2023.05.28 05:01 Front-Strike-8690 Human Nature[OC]
Humanity is relatively young. Compared to the other races, humanity is a short-lived species. They seldom get past 80 years of age, they make crude weapons, they war amongst themselves almost as much as the orcs, and they worship false gods. But, humanity has something not even the orc’s ferocity, nor the elves' magic, or even the dwarves' master-worked weapons can face. Humanity is legion. ——————————————————————— Captain Alderson, Selkath Empire Tartalus fields
I stared out across the open plains to the south, toward the forest line, which marked the border to the elven nation of Silvastan.
I didn’t care much for the politicking of it all, I probably should care more, because it’s the reason I'm in this, middle of nowhere, far from home, fort. Well, it came down to some problems with trade during one of the Empire’s many wars.
The Selkath Empire was in the middle of a brutal war with the Orc tribes of Bordu. The war had been forcing the Selkath to pay a heavy price in blood; after several failed assaults on the large Orc settlement of Mosvil, the Selkath army was running low on soldiers.
What rubbed salt in the wound was the fact that one of our major trading partners, the Pantoran forest elves, was caught trading weapons with the Orcs. Luckily for us, the Orcs are not the sharpest tools in the shed, and a few well-placed lies led the entire Orcish leadership to believe that the Pantoran were going to betray them. The Orc tribes immediately declared war on the Pantoran, who quickly learned of the treachery and cut off trade with the Selkath Empire.
This act infuriated the Selkath aristocrats who swiftly brought together their own armies, filled with serfs and veteran peasant conscripts; some of the richer nobles simply hired large armies of Sonderland mercenaries. These armies marched against the weakened Pantorian elves and shattered their remaining armies, forcing them to retreat all the way back to their traditional homelands.
This act made the Pantorian’s allies quickly cut all ties with the Selkath Empire. Their largest ally was the Silvastan elves, whose forests lie only kilometers away from my position. They possess the largest army of any Pantorian ally and have many mineral-rich resources, which give them great wealth and manufacturing power.
I got dragged out of my thoughts as my lieutenant walked up and saluted, “Good day sir, all clear on the field. The men are awake and performing their duty.”
“Excellent work,” I said before smiling and adding, “Say your corner window has a great view of the field.”
He grinned and nodded, “Yep it sure does, if you don’t mind I’ll be heading up now to get some shut-eye, before my night shift of course.”
I gave myself a small chuckle as he wandered off towards the small cobblestone building we use as barracks. For the officers, we have a second floor away from the communal bunks of the simple conscripts. That gave us a great view of the rolling hills and sprawling fields, but my lieutenant’s view is the envy of every officer, he had a corner room giving him a view of the hills to the west and the fields to the south.
I turned and looked at the compound under my command. The center of the compound is taken up by the barracks. At the northern end of the base, there was a small tower. Surrounding the whole compound was a low timber and stone wall roughly six feet tall. I smiled to myself as I watched my men wandering around the open grounds, calling out greetings to each other and doing their daily chores and duties.
I sighed and listened to the early morning birds which always had the most beautiful songs. As I listened I a thought struck me. The birds weren’t singing. I had a moment to realize that, then I sprinted to the edge of the bulwark.
I started yelling at the men, “TO YOUR BATTLE STATIONS! WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!”
My men looked up at me in confusion, until a soldier on the wall gave a gurgling scream as an arrow embedded itself in his neck. The men immediately began moving towards their positions, uncertainty in their eyes. I snarled, shoving them forward as the first elves began to shimmer into view.
I cursed quietly, falling for such a predictable trick. I watched as the elves began to raise their bows, and my men braced for a devastating barrage of arrows to slam into their positions.
Until the elven archers began to fall, clutching the staves, finding their way into their bodies. I grinned as I remembered the camouflaged positions from which my crossbowmen were launching devastating volleys of fire against the elves. This thinned out their original numbers, and while not making a massive impact it gave my men more time to reach the defenses.
To the elves' credit, they responded quite quickly, firing several perfect arrows into the small gaps, quickly silencing the soldiers inside. Those tiny holes would have been next to impossible for any human to find, but we weren’t fighting humans, we were fighting elves.
I dragged my attention away from the archers and their superior eyesight, as the first of the elven foot soldiers scramble over the wall and quickly began cutting through my men. I ran forward and drove my sword toward the first elf I saw. He turned quickly and withdrew his sword from the body of a fallen soldier, I launched a vicious overhead strike at the elf, he deflected my strike and followed up with a quick offensive of his own.
I stepped back, eyeing his elven blade warily, his sword followed a traditional elven design. Their blades were very light and sharp allowing them to move quickly and unencumbered by their blades. Their blades were slightly curved making lunging stabs difficult but allowed them to swing much more effectively. But I had the longer reach with my sword.
I would have to hold him at bay with my longer weapon. I slashed at him, forcing him to jump back, and as he did that I followed my original attack with a lunge, taking him in the gut he looked up at me with shocked eyes, as if to say, “It can’t be me.” I stepped back allowing him to fall to the ground in a pile.
I sprinted down the line shouting to my men.
A soldier ran up to me, bleeding from a cut on his head he shouted, “Sir the elves have overwhelmed the northern fortifications.”
I grunted in acknowledgment before saying, “Gather your remaining men and make a stand soldier.”
The soldier nodded, grinned, then bellowed, “COME ON BOYS YOU HEARD THE MAN, LETS SHOW THESE POINTY EARS A REAL FIGHT!”
This was followed by a roar from several nearby soldiers who followed him into a charge against a group of uncertain-looking elves, quickly pushing them back.
I shook my head saying, “That wasn’t what I had in mind.”
As I continued to fight, more and more of my remaining men began to gather around me. Me and two other soldiers were fighting against a small squad of elves until the elves began to retreat for some unknown reason. We watched in confusion until a soldier screamed.
“THEY HAVE MAGES!”
I immediately looked out and saw five robbed elves chanting incantations. I ripped a crossbow from one of my men running past, he looked at me in confusion before moving alongside me. I saw the insignia of a sergeant on his uniform.
“What’s happening sir,” he inquired.
“Mages,” I said before standing up and depressing the trigger on the crossbow. The bolt streaked away in a blur of motion, a second before one of the mage's heads snapped backward at an impossible angle, with the bolt embedded in his forehead. My sergeant whistled, impressed before cursing and throwing himself to the ground as the mages turned toward us and unleashed a massive fireball directly at me.
I had a moment to duck before everything turned into ash, dust, and dirt. I flew through the air and landed hard on the ground. I laid there for far longer than I should have, heaving in deep breaths of air each of which hurt more than the last.
I stood up brushing dust and blood from my mouth.
My sergeant stood up as well coughing, he grimaced holding his side in pain, “Well sir, that was quite the event.”
I looked around and saw that we were losing, losing badly, they outnumbered us at least three to one, and they also had the surprise advantage. I was beginning to move towards the small tower at the back of the camp, - which stored the messenger pigeons - when I saw a fireball smash into the corner of the second floor of the barracks. This set my heart on fire as I ran with the sergeant, wiping tears from my eyes as I ran the rest of the way to the tower.
A single guard stood in front of the tower, trembling at the terrible, desperate battle being waged along the wall. He stiffened momentarily as we sprinted up, then relaxed when he saw it was me.
“GUARD THIS DOOR WITH YOUR LIFE,” I bellowed at him, before running full tilt into the tower.
The guard saluted me and joined the sergeant barring the door.
I ran around searching, before finding the fastest messenger pigeon there. I wrote a frantic note about the battle and tied the message to the pigeon before throwing it out the window, its frantic flapping and taking it towards the nearest city.
I almost laughed watching it flap its wings as it flew free into the wind. My brother loved birds. He would have loved to see the speed on this one, but I knew my brother wouldn’t be seeing anything, anymore. He had loved the view from his window so much, the nice one on the second-floor corner of the barracks.

2023.05.28 04:50 sodaloser Girl I dated for like 2 months has gone delusional
Okay so this is something that I kinda find funny but dont really know what to do? . anyways. friend thought itd be a great idea to introduce me to this girl around 3 years ago. started texting than hanging out, driving around town, smoking weed, pretty much doing 18 yo stuff. she was fun and sweet to be around.
Started to notice she lied a lot about the most irrelevant shit to me and others, people warning me on her being so dramatic and insecure. still didnt care and tried to give it a shot.
Some day I confront her about being so insecure and the lying stuff, she opened up with me about lacking parental attention and being mentally and sexually abused once while growing up. made sense since she was always trying to be the center of attention. tried to stick with her but kept making things difficult by victimizing herself so much.
this night we had a fight while driving her home and instantly tried to fixed things up by talking. she blocked me and i thought it was over. it was whatever to me at that point. 2 weeks later we got to talk, she tried to resume dating but I declined and respectfully told her it was over.
years have passed and friends and others would let me know all the shit she has talked about me. dont care and pretty much everyone knows about her behavior (small town). even some girl that i dated once told me that they had a quick conversation in some party and said that i tried to punch her that last night. still didnt care. would unexpectedly come across her at some parties and she'd act reckless to have my attention, just ignored her. she told one of my closest friends at a bar that i felt gay for him and that i had confessed to her that i was secretly in love with him. did nothing.
Last week at job, got to talk with this girl that i hadnt seen in like two years. first thing she told me was that some weeks ago she gave the crazy girl and some mutual friends a ride to a show. and randomly said that i confessed to her once that my sister and cousin were dating and fucking and i went to her for advice. everyone in that car got uncomfortable and silent. this girl told her to shut the fuck up and to move on about me and her. didnt know what to say besides that i was not intersted on talking about it and just changed the subject.
Now. i know she would love to know that im wasting my time writing this. i think its pathetic but its got too far now. should i talk to her or what?
