“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16
I did not give the Bible the time of day before believing in Jesus with my everything. I just don't recall ever sitting down to read it before, and if I did, I know I didn't do it with an open mind.
I merely believed what other people had told me about it, and many of those, not all, told me it was written by man to control the masses. Some told me they were good moral stories, as if it was wisdom from fiction. I likely read a page or two, and just took them at their word, not interested enough to find out on my own.
I know there are Christians that don't read the Gospel as much as people that don't believe Jesus is the Son of God. Satan Himself knows Scripture better than anyone, he was there through all of it. Take from that what you will.
It wasn't until I believed by faith and received the Holy Spirit that the Bible started reading clearly, as if someone nearly blind put on glasses for the first time.
If someone came to me, and asked for some verses to help introduce them to God, I'd pick the ones below to share with them. I'd pray for them out loud before sharing them, asking the Father, in the name of the Son, to open our eyes, ears and hearts to the Word. It wouldn't matter if they bowed their head, the fact that they are willing to listen is already a sign of respect that most won't offer Him.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1
Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Genesis 2:7

The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4‭-‬5
When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. Genesis 3:6
The man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.” Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” And the woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Genesis 3:12‭-‬13
By the sweat of your face You will eat bread, Till you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return.” Genesis 3:19
Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken. Genesis 3:22‭-‬23
I and the Father are one.” John 10:30
Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.” Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. Genesis 4:6‭-‬8

And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’] Matthew 6:9‭-‬13
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38‭-‬39

2023.06.07 01:27 BOOMBOOMFiyah Should I (24m) break up with my girlfriend (23f) if she won’t help me in my current emergency?

I am nearing the end of visiting my parents for my summer break from college courses. We live about a 3.5 hour drive from the university I attend. My dad ruptured his right achilles yesterday and thus won't be able to drive and drop me off, and then drive himself and my mom back home (round trip is 6 hours). My mom can't drive either because she needs to be tending to my injured father. I have an in-person organic chemistry course starting next week on Monday. Additionally, I was planning on going on a 2 night camping trip with my girlfriend and some our friends starting this Friday. My girlfriend just got her car repaired a day or two ago, spending about $3200, and explained to me she was told by the mechanic to "take it easy" with the car, and that the car is still not completely fixed, so based on that she's not interested in using her car to car-pool anyone to the campsite which is an hour drive away from our university. I called to ask her a big favor if she would at least be able to just drive the car to pick me up since my own car doesn't work and neither of my parents are able to make the full 6 hour drive for me. She said shes super worried about the car breaking down since the rebar hasn't been fixed and would "be going against the mechanic's instructions to 'take it easy' if I do this". Throughout the call there are long pauses on both ends because she seems adamant about not wanting to do this while I reassure her this is a very weird situation and I don't like it either but that I wouldn't be asking if it wasn't serious. About 15 minutes into the call I ask her to hold on for a moment while I think of what to say and after about a minute or less she hangs up and texts me "I have to go. I promised to be somewhere at a certain time" (to drive over to and talk with a another friend in person who's organizing the camping trip). I text back "Why did you hand up" and she responds with "I have to go. I have a prior commitment.”
We've been togther about 5 months now and she has many times texted and said to me how much she loves me more than I love her, and that I'm so amazing and the best boyfriend she has and will ever have. I don’t know what to do. Other main contributing factor to wanting to break up are that she still lives with her ex boyfriend (of 7 years) rent free for the entirety of our relationship, she is not open/honest with me about things I do that bother her despite me asking her to be honest multiple times, and I'm growing weary of the stress of it all.

2023.06.07 01:27 Faulty_W1res Daily Remix Ideas: Part 198 (Meltdown-“Body Temperature”)

Welcome back, it’s me again, rambling on about an idea I’ve had to modify a game, as always. Today, it’s Meltdown. Time to get to it.
———————————————
“Body Temperature”
With this remix, we will again be looking at temperature. In various modpacks, something you will see is a temperature bar, showing how hot or cold you are. I was thinking, what if we bring that to Meltdown.
So, above your hotbar, you now have this small circle. It starts out as grey, when you’re normal temperature. As your temperature rises, it turns yellow, to orange, to red. If you’re red, that ain’t good. As you get colder, it turns light blue, to darker blue, to purple. If you’re purple, that similarly ain’t good. To help, there’s a number in your circle. 50 is middle, 0 is bottom and 100 is top. If you’re in 0-9, or 91-100 for 3 seconds straight, you die.
But how does your temperature fluctuate? Well:
That’s all there is too it. One thing to note. From 50, a frozen player on a melting room will die faster than a player just standing there from 50. Otherwise it’s advantageous to be hit in the final showdown, as long as you don’t fall into lava.
Also, in case people get distracted, you’ll get a red vignette, like a border warning, when you get above 80 to warn you. Similarly, you’ll get a blue one below 20. That way, you wont just get randomly killed without noticing.
———————————————
I really enjoyed making that one for some reason, hope you enjoyed reading it. Only 2 more days until 200. But otherwise, have a good day, and I’ll catch you later.

2023.06.07 01:27 tinymightymous Location discrimination?

I'm not a person who studies workplace laws or is really familiar with it much at all.
This post is mostly to see if anyone else has every experienced something similar to me.
I work in the United States in the state of California for a nationwide used car dealership. I have been working her for just over a year and a half as an inventory manager. (Basically taking care of the cars we have on the lot and fixing minor issues, taking them to shops when needed, communicating with the shops on what needs to be done, set up new shops to work with us on repairs on our cars, work with the service team to assist with estimates sent to them on what can be approved or not, and a few other things that would make it a laundry list of my duties.)
My position pays just under 20 per hr. My experience for the past 7 years has been automotive repair and service advising at repair shops. I was previously a senior technician doing mostly electrical and diagnostics, then moved inside to be an advisor and eventually a service manager. I have even worked as a service advisor at one of the shops my current dealership works with the most, so i know how the system works extremely well. I recently applied to the position within my company as a Service Advisor. What they do is review estimates from shops and approve work to be done or not depending on the customers warranty and estimates that come from other people in my current position.
The service advisor position is the only place for someone in my current position to move to, and it pays significantly more. I was told not long after my interview that they are looking for someone who can step straight in to the position with no training and just get the ball rolling, which is suspicious to me as every single job out there will require some form of training. However, shortly after I was told this, the service team hired a candidate from outside of the company who did not have any where near my level of experience. He was terminated a couple months in. This happened with the team about 2 to 3 more times and now the position is open again. I heard through the grapevine ie: my branch manager and district manager, that the reason I was not being hired for the position is because I live in California and they don't want to have to pay me the same wage that the previous guy who worked in California was making. Which was roughly 35 per hr. Not once during my interview did either me or the hiring manager (VP of company) discuss pay for the position, so I am very confused on what the issue is.
Side note: I know it is not my performance in my current position that is the hold up, because I have been called out by my district manager, and the current manager of the service team as the "poster boy" of my position.
I am wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation to this, and if there is anything that you did.
If you made it through this whole post I appreciate you greatly and thank you for reading!

2023.06.07 01:27 thegirlwhosquats Subtract Tour - Chicago

A few weeks ago I suddenly & tragically lost my brother & one of my best friends was diagnosed with cancer last week. Due to the recent unfortunate events, I'd like to see Ed Sheeran at The Chicago Theater on July 28 instead of Soldier Field but cannot afford the current scalper prices of $500+ per ticket. If anyone is looking to get rid of their tickets for July 28, please think of me. Thank you.

2023.06.07 01:27 the_wayitgoes Mom stressing me out

I (20M) live with my immigrant mother (40F) who is super against drug use, including marijuana despite the fact we live in Canada where it’s perfectly normal and legal to smoke weed. I can tell her that I drink sometimes and she won’t think anything of it, but smoking weed is going too far, even just once. I dabble a little bit socially, maybe once or twice a week (I don’t tell her that), but I’m not an addict whatsoever as I have goals that I’m trying to achieve (hitting the gym 6 days a week, full time college student) and I feel like being a chronic weed smoker would get in the way of that. Today she looked through my bag and found a lighter. It’s a gift my ex gave me and I don’t wanna get rid of it because it’s sentimental of course, yet for some reason she won’t believe that and is accusing me of being a drug user and demands that I do a drug test, whether it’s a home testing kit or at a lab. She keeps making threats of leaving the country or kicking me out of the house or telling my dad (who is also against marijuana) if I do the test and it comes back positive. I’m a diabetic so I’m dependant on her and my father in order to literally survive, and I’m a full time student without a job. It’s really been stressing me out. What can I do about this? I finish all my assignments on time and get good grades. I don’t wanna lose what I have. I can’t be honest with them either, as being honest with them in the past has costed me (kicked out of the house with a limited supply of insulin and nearly ran out before they said I could return), I’m just trying to survive while maintaining a social life as so many people here smoke now.

2023.06.07 01:27 Unlucky-Passion1820 I got a new illness and Im really scared. I could be really disabled now

Ive always had medical problems. Ive been taking steroids for five years because of my illness. Now I have steroid induced myopathy. So basically now my muscles are wasting away very rapidly and are exhausted to the point of pain over very basic tasks like holding them upright. Its not like normal pain because I can't physically force myself through it, because my muscles will go jello until I physically cant anymore. Whats happening is systematic destruction of muscle tissue and apoptosis of muscle fibre.
I had to cut off my beautiful long hair and now I have a badly done pixie cut that doesnt suit me (they look great on other people but not my steroid face idk) and I still struggle just as hard to wash my hair. I have to rest my arms every five seconds. Brushing my teeth is legit hard and exhausting. Its progressing so fast. I bought five pound weights and I can barely lift them. Im actually so scared.
I could end up unable to walk and unable to breathe if it doesnt improve fast enough with tapering off the steroids and im.honestly just so scared. It could also not go away.
Its unfair. I took the meds to fix the disease and got a new disease that feels more disabling. Why cant i ever just have anything good? Why is it always some kind of epic fing struggle? Im so tired. I wamt to go to a hotel and sleep for 500000 years and never have to shower or brush my teeth or go near stairs or stand up so I dont have to face how bad its getting.

Yet there was something in the quality of that voice, a voice that didn’t belong to any teenager, that forced the shapes of the letters through his wrist, onto the paper. Even as he felt the fool, he also felt the chronicler. The words could be historic.
The words: after a plain “hello” the voice had excused itself and muttered something about a wrong number and galactic interference. Then it had said, exactly, “No matter, you will have to do. My name is Charles R—and I am calling from Mars. First, record the date and time of this communication. Second, please bring it to the attention of one Mrs Mary Clare of 34 Wentworth St, Nottingham. Pass along also that I am doing fine and that, though food is scarce, I have had my fill, and that water is plenty once one digs past the red surface of things.”
That was all. Then the phone went dead. The connection had not been good to begin with, but there was no doubt about any of it. Nothing had been made up. There was no uncertainty.
Having written these five sentences, Appleton let go of the pen, wiped his forehead and retreated to the safety of his customary evening chair. It was a few minutes after six—his regular reading time—but Appleton gave no thought to books. Today, he sat silently in his chair until the clock struck seven. His neurons fired incessantly.
By eight, he had made up his mind: in the morning he would fly to Nottingham and personally deliver the message to Mary Clare.
There was only the slight problem of the wife.
She would arrive home tomorrow afternoon and find it empty. She would worry. Appleton’s greatest fear was that the wife would worry. She was of good breeding and delicate constitution, and worry might weaken her system enough to allow otherwise harmless bacteria to set up residence, which would lead to complications and eventually a prolonged bedridden death. He shuddered at the mere inkling. Right, he would have to compose a note: “My dear, I am off on a scholarly pursuit. Do not worry. I will return by Wednesday. Sincerely, your devoted husband.”
He folded the note and placed it on the dining room table. That, he realized, was more writing than he’d done since his tenure at Oxford. He felt productive again.

- - -

The plane skidded as it touched down, but the flight was otherwise without incident. Outside, grey clouds produced a cold mist that collected drops of water on the brim of Appleton’s hat as he waited by the terminal. Although no one could say so by looking at him, he was nervous.
He nearly misspoke while telling the driver the address. In the taxi, he caught himself rubbing his thumb compulsively against his forefinger like he hadn’t done since his rugby days.

- - -

The house at 34 Wentworth St was made of pale yellow brick. It was smaller and set farther from the road than neighbouring houses. A stone path led to the front door, on either side of which bloomed a well-kempt garden. Appleton walked the path slowly, cherishing the smell of wet flowers and realizing that over the last twelve hours he’d developed a particular mental image of Mary Clare. It was something like the opposite of the wife.
He stood for a few moments before the front door and deliberated whether to ring the electronic bell or use the bronze knocker. Eventually, he rapped his knuckles against the wood. A woman opened the door.
“Yes, hello,” said Appleton.
The woman looked suspiciously at his hands, but he wasn’t carrying anything except the back cover of the magazine on which he’d written the message from Mars.
“I’m not selling,” he said. “I’m looking for Mrs Mary Clare. I’ve been informed that she lives at this address. I have a message for her from Charles R—.”
“Did he send you, the scoundrel?”
Appleton blinked.
“Well did he or didn’t he, speak up. All these years and he can’t even come back to show his face, sends some other poor fool.” Her eyes studied Appleton’s hat. “Or maybe he’s dead. Maybe that’s what you come to tell me. Last of kin or some such.”
“No, Mrs Clare—“
“Simpson, but one and the same as you’re looking for.”
“Mrs Simpson.” Appleton fumbled the correction. He’d shoved one hand into a cloak pocket and was furiously rubbing his fingers together. “Yesterday evening I received a phone call. I wasn’t meant to receive it, you see, there was a mistake with the connection. The call was from Mr Charles R—. He asked that I deliver this message.”
Appleton read aloud what he’d written on the magazine cover.
The woman laughed and stomped her foot. She was in her sixties, Appleton realized. Sections of her hair were greying. The lines under her eyes were deep and permanent. Her laughter was not a joyous laughter.
She said, “Whatever trick it is you’re playing, and whoever you’re playing it with, I’m too old for it, you understand? The past is dead. Mr Charles R— is dead. And I deserve to be left to my own peace. Don’t come back here.”
But before she could close the door, Appleton put his hand on her shoulder. It was a soft shoulder. Appleton gasped. Never had he been so forward with a woman.
“Please, Mr Charles R— is not dead. I spoke to him. I heard his voice. I’m telling you the truth. He’s alive. He’s just on another planet. It’s utterly remarkable!”
Mrs Simpson looked at Appleton with suddenly sympathetic eyes and, even as she removed his hand from her shoulder, kept her voice calm:
“He’s dead to me.”
Appleton’s hand fell limply against the side of his cloak.
“There are certain things you do that, once you do them, their consequences are permanent. There is no pretending and there is no coming back. Take care now, Mister.”
With that, she shut the door.

- - -

Upon returning home, Appleton’s life returned to normal—at least in all superficial respects: he smiled to his wife, he kept to himself, and, at Six O’clock each evening, he retreated to his customary chair to read his customary books. The magazine cover on which he’d written the message from Charles R—, he placed in a private drawer in the desk in his study, underneath unfinished essays and research into particle acceleration and magnet engine propulsion and other old academic bric-a-brac.
For weeks, whilst trying unsuccessfully to locate more information about Charles R—, he kept the drawer unlocked. But, once he’d given up hope, he turned the key and, with one click, banished all thought of Mars from his mind.
Or at least that’s what Appleton intended. For there are certain neurons that, once they start firing, are impossible to stop. At most, they can be slowed—their work delayed. They are not obtrusive neurons: they do not prevent, say, smiling to one’s wife or reading customary books. But they are persistent and every so often they make the results of their operation known. This happens most-of-all at unexpected times, as, for instance, when Appleton, having bent to retrieve a particularly large pine cone from the grass, stood up with the complete schematic for the Magna-IV Engine before his eyes, or, upon having been asked by the local lady grocer for his opinion about a recent stretch of fair weather, replied, “My God, Ruthenium!”
Once such ideas made themselves known to Appleton, he began putting them to paper. Once they were on paper, he tasked other, more compliant, neurons with dividing and conquering any problems that the papers made apparent; and, once those had been solved, what else was there to do but gather the necessary materials and construct the first prototypes?
Appleton kept mum about this, of course. To his physicist colleagues, he was still at work on the same book he’d been working on for the last decade. He was still irrelevant. The wife, as long he smiled to her, suspected nothing. It was only his books that could have given him away—lying unopened on their shelves, their regular Six O’clock appointments long forgotten, their yellowing pages gathering dust—but books by themselves cannot speak. Appleton’s secret was safe.
Even as the project approached completion, not one soul suspected.
When launch-day finally dawned and Appleton, having composed a note to his wife indicating that he would be away until Wednesday on a scholarly pursuit, packed the pieces and prototypes into the back of a rented truck and drove to an old farmer’s field, from where he would blast off that very noon, the whole world was still naïve to the history that would soon be made.
In the field, Appleton worked diligently. He filled the shell of the rocket with each of the separate machines he had designed and constructed. He had a life support system, a navigation system, a communications system. He had propulsion. He had fuel. He had everything that was necessary. Nothing had been overlooked. As the sun rose, it rose on years of endless effort that, today, had physically and for the first time come together in the middle of such a previously insignificant English spot on Earth.
By Ten O’clock, the rocket was nearly complete. All that was left was the installation of the final ingenious detail: the captain’s seat: Appleton’s own customary evening chair.
That done, Appleton looked for one last time at the earthly sky, its thin clouds moving slightly across an orange sun, then climbed into the rocket and closed the hatch. The pneumatics sighed. The inside air was warm. As he set the navigation, every click and beep audible as if within his own skull, Appleton wondered what became of Mary Simpson. But just as it had come, the wonder passed. He confirmed his intended destination on the small liquid crystal display and took a deep breath.
The destination was unbelievable: Appleton felt feverish. He maneuvered into his chair and strapped himself in. Space was tight but he was not uncomfortable. Besides—he thrust a needle into a vein in his arm—he would be asleep for most of the journey. The sedative began to flow. He activated the countdown sequence. When he awoke, he would already be in Saturn’s orbit.

- - -

“Hello? Can you hear me?”
The communications equipment produced only a monotonous hiss punctuated by crackles. Appleton scratched his head. He’d programmed the system to link directly to the telephone in his home. The signal was strong enough. It should be working. He tried another connection.
This time, there was a faint click and the echo of a voice.
“Darling! It’s me. Please say something,” Appleton spoke into the receiver.
The voice wobbled.
“I hope you can hear me. I hope you haven’t been worrying. I hope I haven’t caused you harm. Please, darling, say something so that I know there isn’t a malfunction.”
The echoing voice suddenly came into rather clear focus. “Who is this? And do you want to speak with my mum?”
Appleton knew right away that it wasn’t the voice of the wife. In fact, it wasn’t even a female voice. It was the voice of a boy.
“My name is Appleton,” said Appleton. “I am attempting to contact the wife. Unfortunately, I may have miscalculated. Nonetheless, if you’d be a good lad and please make a note of the following: I am calling from Titan, which is the largest moon of the plane—
“Saturn, I know. I’m not stupid.”
Appleton cleared his throat and adjusted his headset. “Yes, that’s mighty good of you. As I was saying, I am on Titan, having only just arrived, you see. But the situation thus far appears manageable. I predict I shall make a fair go of living here.” He remembered his reason for calling. “Right, then, if you could tell as much to the wife, whom you will find living at 11 Golden Pheasant Lane in Beaconsfield, I would be much obliged. Her name is—“
The connection went dead. The communications system went offline. Try as Appleton might, no amount of banging, prodding and reprogramming ever brought it back.

- - -

Phil Jones replaced the telephone receiver.
“Who was that?” his mother asked.
Then disappeared down the hall without waiting for an answer.
Phil went back to the homework spread out on his bedroom floor, whose doing Appleton had interrupted. Geography lay beside history, which bordered an island of English. Phil tried all three subjects—cross his innocent heart, he did—but all at once the history was too boring, the English too imprecise and the geography too much pointless memorisation. He rubbed his eyes. Next year he’d be in high school. The homework would only get harder.
T-I-T-A-N
He typed the letters almost absent-mindedly into a Google image search.
The moon stared at him.
Somewhere inside his head, certain neurons were beginning to fire.

2023.06.07 01:26 Educational_Reach351 Caring for again parents in your home

My sibling, of her own accord, not asking for my opinion on the subject or thoughts about it AT ALL, decided to have our aging dad move in with her and her husband when she bought her new house.
Has she asked me, I’d have said not only is this a terrible idea but WTAF, are you even thinking??
Growing up, or alcoholic dad was never emotionally available. It goes much deeper than that. He was essentially an inconvenient piece of the furniture. He’d get home from work, crack the top of his first of twelve beers for the night and go to his chair in the living room to read the paper and watch the TV shows he wanted to watch. This would leave our mom with all the rest. She’d come home working the same amount of hours at work but then have the house to clean, laundry to do, dinner to make, and in any time left, to care for me and my sister. Ask if this without the help, thanks, or even basic acknowledgment…. Let alone a “thanks “ from our drunk dad. His contribution… he’d berate our mom if she burnt the food because she was tired or multitasking like doing the laundry while cooking. Because she was a saint, she’d always take the burnt food for herself saving the very best for dad who would never notice her sacrifice or praise her efforts. As I grew older and began to grow a conscience, I’d say mom I’ll eat that one. She’d say no, honey, I like it cooked like that. I want that one. Of course it was a selfless lie. She did it because she loved us. Always putting others first. As we grew my sister and I would help around the house ultimately doing most of the housework and laundry etc. meanwhile dad would just sit there. Drinking his beer. Never offering to help. Never offering a kind word of encouragement. Never offering to take us to a game at school. Never participating in PTA events. Never offering to help with homework. Never asking how was our day. This was our childhood. I can actually say it changed my outlook on life. I vowed to never be a woman like my mom. Please know I love my mom more than anything ever and respect her sacrifices and hardships she endured. But I feel it safe to say she was never given the option to “live her best life”. Hers was a lie a service. To her husband. To her family. To the duties of earning an income at a menial minimum wage job she hated, then raising the children by herself minus the income our dad provided. His only value or contribution to our family was that income. Otherwise, he was the furniture. Moreover, while he wasn’t “violent” there were occasions that where he was drunk he’d yell at us and our mom and once while we were crying while looking out the window, witnessed him throwing a heavy trash can on our mom while she tried to defend herself. (As an aside, our mom never drank but had to endure a drink partner every night of her life.). He would occasionally beat my sister and I with his belt or weeping willow branches if we failed in some way. We were good kids (hell we were fantastic kids— straight As, hard working, respectful… all that). I can’t remember the minor infractions that caused a whipping but I sure remember the terror of the act. The drunken yelling, then the fumbling unbuckling of his belt, seemed like time would virtually stop waiting for the belt to whirl out of his jeans and then he’d double it over and advance. Almost foaming at the mouth as he’d come to hit us. Oh, I forgot to mention… the reason he was beating mom that night… it’s because she was trying to protect us so he’d aggress towards her and spare us. Anyhow, that was our childhood. That was what living with our dad was like.
It changed me. Fundamentally. I chose not to have children. I worked hard to support myself independently and never be reliant on a man for my financial support. I even struggle with trust. I’ve learned that people you let into your life, intimately, Matt not have your best interests at heart and may wish to exploit your kindness and generosity. I can’t say these life lessons have helped me to be the best I can be. But here we are.
Our mother passed away leaving only our dad. Fast forward to now. Now where my dad lives with my sister. He’s now advancing quickly with dementia. Other than now being completely paranoid and generally having tantrums where he hates everyone and everything. He’s so racial. So angry. He hallucinates. He thinks people are stealing from him. He thinks his doctors are terrible. He wants to move back to his old house. He’s generally his same old insufferable self just now with the added grief of dementia and paranoia.
My struggle is this…. My sister is increasingly angry with me for not helping her more with his care. She constantly complains about his insensitivity, his arrogance, his disrespect. She wants me to sympathize. She wants me to be a sounding board. She wants me to take him on outings. Take him to breakfast and lunch. To give her a break and some help. I get it. And I do. Not as often as she’d like. But I do. Not every week. Mentally I can’t. I don’t like the man. Honestly, I can’t stand him. Taking him on outings I have to mentally rally and prepare, dread and eventually just come to the thought of “just do it and get it over with” so I can try and forget about it until next time. To say I dread it… having to pretend to care about what he has to say, care about his thoughts… when he has never cared about ours…
I’ve encouraged my sister to put him in a home. He’s not destitute. She refuses. “He’d hate that” she says. I counter with “He hates everything so what’s the difference?” Still she refuses but increasingly demands my help. It’s increasingly harming our relationship. She’s resentful of me for not participating in his care on her terms. She’s withdrawing and becoming bitter towards me. I don’t appreciate being made to feel guilty over participating in the care of this man that has shaped my life for… the worse… hard to say… But definitely not for the better. My achievements have been in spite of him. My decision to not have children which was so strongly colored by him in my childhood now a question in my mind. Had I made the wrong choice? Too late now.
Ultimately this man, my dad, is not yet done taking from me and shaping my life. Now he’s destroying my relationship and friendship with my sister. I only engage with him for her. Increasingly as his disease progresses she wants more and more from me while continuing to draw away from me. I hate this man. I’m also resenting my sister for taking in this burden when she did so on her own but now demands my help. I don’t know what to do. Am I just the asshole? How do support my sister on this crazy journey she never should have tan on? Letting this man continue to destroy our lives.

2023.06.07 01:26 UK2004 Correct Sizing

Bought a Marin San Quentin 3 a year ago and had to wait for med treatment before riding last few weeks. Bought large based off their size chart despite being 5 ft 9.5 with shortish legs. It just doesn't feel right, reach leaves me with arms nearly locked out for general cycling and that doesn't feel right. Am I just needing a medium frame or is it really worth trying to fiddle with bars and saddle position etc. ?

2023.06.07 01:25 Superb-Dingo-2442 WIBTA for not attending my son's "graduation"?

My son, Ry, 10m is "graduating" elementary school. At 10am on Friday morning all the 5th graders are going to put on little paper caps and gowns and walk across the auditorium stage and get a "diploma." My wife is excited to go and is asking me to go, but I really don't want to.
I work four 10 hour days, Friday is my day off, since I get 3 day weekends. I'd like to be able to just relax during the day without being around a bunch of kids. It's also my daughter, Kali 18f, from a previous marriage high school graduation that day, at 7pm, and I'd like to take the day to focus on that and the amazing person Kali is and how lucky I am to be her dad.
My wife says there's time for both and I'm not meeting up with Kali until 5pm to take her out for a special dinner and give her gifts before her graduation. That Ry's graduation will be over within an hour or so and that leaves me plenty of time to get ready and go see Kali. It's a 2 hour drive to Kali, so I'd have to leave no later than 3pm.
Wife says the Ry's "graduation is at 10am, school has early dismissal at 11:30am, we'll be home by 11:45, and I have 3 hours to do whatever I want or need to before leaving to get dinner with Kali. I feel that 5th grade graduation is a bit of a joke, it's nothing major, Ry will have other graduations that are more important that I'll be at and I'd like to have the day be about Kali because it's such a huge day for her and I'm incredibly proud of her. AITA?

2023.06.07 01:25 reject_sensi-versity Help me compare schools as an incoming undergraduate freshman

Rutgers vs. Pomona
For PreMed Track (Major: Molecular Bio)
Pomona - Very high med school acceptance (85%) w/ grade inflation + accessibility to their pre-health resources - Ability to explore the 5Cs: Harvey Mudd, CMC, all great schools in one area - Has the prestige (in terms of grad school). Next to major city (LA) - Love the liberal arts feel— I am not overwhelmed, I get to know my professors well - Many graduates going on to top med schools (NYU, USC, Columbia, Stanford—- all places I would like to go for med/dent)
Cons - Not sure if Pomona is known to be good with appealing financial aid. - $36k a year (I would be taking out large loans) - Location is beautiful but it’s in a quaint old-person town (which is also kind of a pro) - Transportation is limited, cost of living is high in LA
Rutgers Pros - If I were to be the TOP premed student at Rutgers, I would have the same chances as anyone for med school - Probably lots of volunteering considering how close its university hospital is - East coast and NY-NJ-PA tristate is good, better than West Coast for jobs (will go back for med school) - Cheaper ($8k/year) - Better accessibility to food (it’s a college town with common-name stores + restaurants) - Traditional feel of college - I graduate nearly debt-free
Cons: - Too large 💀, I feel like I’ll miss catching the bus to class all the time and it doesn’t feel right to do virtual classes if all the lecture halls are full - NJ is depressing - Student body isn’t a great fit for me - Asbestos in the dorms, SA assault cancels Orientation Week, Professor Strike— Reputation is…... I just don’t want to be RU Screwed - More competition with other people for access to resources, less time with professors -Some have told me their premed advisors discourage med school applicants — results are similar to national average - Might burn out easily then consider switching
Is it worth investing over an undergrad education like Pomona, or just go to Rutgers and work hard but crapshoot when applying for medical school?

2023.06.07 01:25 Winston-Salem-Vibe Bots are killing me

So started refreshing at about 3pm try to get early drops. None and then they do and the BOTS $144 route snatched away. As soon as it drops gone….. jumps in price GONE. I can get to the schedule buttons page but can’t schedule fast enough. Maybe an iPone 12 mini isn’t fast enough????
Friend encourages me not to give up. I start to get the “You have tapped too many times or for too long.” blocking and wanted to throw my Amazon phone away, then realized it was my phone (kidding people but felt that way). Finally get a shift with 15 minutes to and traffic makes me 2 minutes late. I crawl to the check in spot and have 1 minute to get them to override and they do with 10 seconds to spare. Then I can’t check in due to the drivers licenses check. So she scans a second time and good.
I am like what the heck else can go wrong. The whole time I am telling myself to just be calm, choose to be happy, it will work out….. then I see my delivery…..
2 packages near my house and done in 1hr 15mins……

2023.06.07 01:24 Small-University-875 Need some opinions

So we were officially divorced in December 2022. Things have been going great for the most part as far as co parenting goes. I've been keeping myself busy and enjoying the time I have to myself when the kids are with her (50/50). Been hitting the gym hard and I've actually put on close to 20lbs since my all time low of all the stress last year.
So some nights my kids will ask to call their mom, I have absolutely nothing against this and oblige every time. They do a quick face time before bed when they ask to see her. The last time we did this is where things start to get a little weird for me. She was out to dinner, dressed up very nicely, makeup ect. My oldest is almost 5 and he's too smart for his own good. He asks where she is and she tells him the name of the restaurant. He asks who she's with and she says "a friend". He asks who her friend is, she dodges the question and asks if his brother is asleep already. Not getting an answer he again asks who the friend is and she sternly tells him "you don't know this friend" and kind of giggled about it. Then looked up at whoever was sitting across from her and mouthed "I'm so sorry".
Now obviously she was on a date, good for her, I have no emotional attachment to her anymore and I'm glad she can be someone else's problem now (sorry, not sorry). The part that bothers me is that it confused my son. Any other time she's at dinner "with a friend" she's so excited to let her friend say hi to the kids and they will talk to them for a few minutes as well.
If I were to go on a date, personally I don't even think I'm ready for that it's hardly been 6 months. I would not answer a facetime from my kids. I would send a quick text, something along the lines of "tell the boys I love them and I'll talk to them as soon as I can". Maybe I'm over thinking this whole situation, it just seems like there should be a boundary there and she crossed it.
At my son's t ball game tonight my ex and her friend who's son is on his team were talking. They were maybe 20-30 feet to my left standing behind the bench that all of our kids are sitting on and openly talking about the date my ex was on, her friend asking a bunch of questions about the guy. As if I can't hear any of this, let alone again doing it right in front of my son. I just think it's extremely disrespectful to my kids and that there is a time and place for this stuff.

2023.06.07 01:24 ZefeusAlorius Cantonese/Toisan Food Taboo

I have a Cantonese/Toisan mother who kept on telling me that I can't make a tofu dish and a tomatoes dish for dinner (two separate dishes). She was insistent that it's wrong and will cause a stomach problem. I asked her what's the reasoning and her only answer was that I wouldn't understand. I have never heard of this food taboo/rule before.
