Repair quality
Hello people. Just had a major 14 weeks repair done after a rearend hit and run. As you can see there is some sort of a gap between the bumper and the panel. Is that like ok, or should I go back to them? Also the bumper edge is slightly out. It's like that on both sides. Do I let it go or go back to them?

2023.06.05 00:20 Human-Awareness9560 I just need a little help ($181)

Cash app : $haymanfreeley I have had the hardest last 2 years of my life and I have never been one to ask for hand outs. This isn’t easy for me. My partner and I were in two car accidents one last year and one this year. Both not our fault. Now I have a newer used car and a car payment. I was just barley making it before we had an extra car payment. We’ve been doing ok for the last few months but now I need to get work done on the new car! It’s too late for me to push my car payment back. I really really don’t want to bounce or be late on this I’m trying so hard to keep my credit growing back up from last year. I’m hoping maybe some kind souls here would help us make our payment so we can also get the repairs done before it gets worse. I need $181. That’s half of my car payment. Anything helps... thank you!

2023.06.04 23:56 throwawayRARARAcoco My (29m) partner and I (25f) had a fight today. We fight a lot and it's starting to get complicated and exhausting after 6 years. Long term relationship people: How do we get this healthy?

My partner and I have been dating for 6 years and we've lived with each other for most. Unfortunately we do argue a lot, always have, but we always try to stitch it up. For the past 3 years it's been the same, but arguments feel even more strained today we had an argument that I would love love love some help unpacking from someone who has experience in long term relationships and their health.
Today we woke up and took a trip to the store. My partner had told me he was dreading some work he had to do later today. In general he has been dreading doing his job. He also has a history of struggling with work and has been laid of every year for the past few years. In the car on our way home there was a very minor incident. I thought a local parade was a pride parade and he corrected me that it was a different event and I was like "ummm I'm not sure are you sure??" and he said "yes! It's the thing there has been signs about for weeks!" He sounded annoyed to me so I kind of defensively apologized and once I relaxed realized it was probably too much and apologized for it. When we got home, he was wearing complete dispair on his sleeve. Of course, I asked him what's going on. After a few false starts he was like "well I didn't want to talk about it because I don't know how you'll react but I'm just really upset about earlier and think it'll impact doing my work." I thought it was kind of a small thing to have impact your entire day especially since we talked about it so I asked him "why is this event having such an impact?" He flipped out at me. He told me I should have just said "don't worry you'll be ok" or something and kind of raised his voice and was like running his hands through his hair and was clearly very stressed. He said "this is why I didn't want to tell you!!" After some time he came in and saw me still upset and asked if I was ok. At first I lied and said yes (afraid further escalation was in store that would affect his work) but immediately I realized that wasn't healthy so I told him the truth. "The way you reacted to me earlier hurt my feelings and made me feel stressed, sad, and a little afraid". After telling me he was disappointed in me not being honest right away he told me "isn't that overboard?" And I said
"you kind of flipped out at me"
"flipped out at you?"
And I said "Yeah you didn't raise your voice too high or anything but I think that's accurate, are you saying you don't think that's accurate? I'm willing to reconsider"
and he said "it just makes me reconsider how I describe how you treat me" actively turning the whole thing around onto me when I was just expressing what my issue was....
Then I told him that I didn't appreciate being told I was over reacting and that when I hurt him with my words and actions I apologize and listen. He got really mad then and told me that's not what he was saying. He's told me in the past that I'm too stubborn so I quickly acted to slow it down. I tried to offer a redo. I was like "I'm sorry, let's redo this if I misunderstood... When you did x I felt y"
But he didn't take the olive branch... Actually he just got more upset and said "I'm really upset today and you just won't help me!" He also said something he has said to me a lot in our relationship which is "I have done the work to communicate with you when you have a hard time but you don't do the same for me". In the past I've apologized for this and committed to improving. Every argument I walk away with notes of how I could have treated the conversation differently and improve in the future so honestly I dont feel like that's really true? And obviously it sounds like he doesn't feel supported and like he doesn't have the help he needs but like... Based on this situation I feel so confused! I feel like I do my best to talk things through but it always escalates. He went downstairs to work out and let out some steam and I went to have a good cry alone and then fell asleep. When I woke up... He was gone. Called, texted, etc and he only answered like 40minutes later saying "I'm just on a drive". I understand needing some space but all of it hurts really bad and is confusing me If you read all of this you are an absolute trooper and I need your help. Doesn't this sound exhausting??? It is!!! Clearly, there's a lot of shit wrong but I can't see through it all and he struggles with clear communication and sometimes just goes silent and won't talk for 10+ minutes when we discuss disagreements. Please please please happy married/long term people tell me how to repair this. I'm honestly exhausted. Specific ask: How do you break through all of the complex long term arguments when you're with someone for a long time and how do you make sure they feel supported?

2023.06.04 23:22 payniacs Pricing on these bikes

I know there are several of these threads already, but regional (Denver) and just the ebb and flow of pricing keep me anxious. I’m looking at a second gen with 17k for 4k. Looks good, has been dropped but only shows light damage (mainly scuffs, no dents) ok maintenance, but needs a new front tire. I’m not prepared for that price but am curious what would be a fair price to be around? Rad group. First post. Thanks

2023.06.04 22:54 mcgaritydotme What would y’all do in a total loss situation like this?

A couple weeks ago, my 2008 Prius (161K mileage) was caught in a hailstorm. This resulted in endless dents to the entire hood & roof, but to nothing else. Because of the repair cost, my insurance (Safeco) has declared it a total loss. The vehicle is still driveable.
If I surrender the vehicle to insurance, they’re willing to pay ~$6250. If I retain the vehicle, minus salvage value, insurance would pay out ~$3940.
Their comps were fairly-approximate — I haven’t contacted dealers to confirm them yet, but for purposes of this conversation assume I’ll get at least one of the above amounts.
Considerations if I retain the vehicle:
TL;DR = I need to decide if it’s worth keeping my ancient car with its current issues, or just walk away.

2023.06.04 21:46 redbeard1083 Asus RMA experience ie appalling.

Holy smokes, this is the worst RMA experience I've ever had. Long story short, I'm an adult, I keep it docked, it doesn't get banged around. Display randomly died on 2022 4-month-old g14. Sent in for repair. Comes back with a dented and scratched up lid after almost 3 weeks. Send it back, have to essentially tell them to read their own notes to get them to waive the $125 fee they want to charge to fix damage they did. Get it back after another almost 3 weeks and the bottom plate is chipped off on one of the corners. What's absolutely astonishing is that on the 2nd RMA, it FAILED THEIR OWN QA CHECK AND THEY HAD TO FIX IT AGAIN....and then still missed the new damage that they caused on one or both of those QA checks depending on when it took place. Asus has had this thing in RMA hell for about 1/3 of the time I've owned it and we might not be done yet. This is comically bad.
Moral of this story is twofold: 1. Obviously, Asus has substantial issues with their repair center and, more importantly, 2. If you have to RMA your computer, take photos of every angle as you box it up so you can make them eat shit if they screw it up.

New Light Phone II Screen

Ok, I just wanna start by saying, I love the Light Phone, for real. I got my first one almost 3 years ago (rough estimate), and after 2 years, I replaced it with a new Light Phone just to avoid the slowing down that inevitably happens to all phones. I've convinced 3 others to give it a shot (2 stuck, 1 didn't). Seriously, I love it.
That being said the second one worked great when I first got it. The lighting was a little off and I made a post about it but realized I couldn't capture the lighting well on camera. So, I just decided to live with it. But now, after about 5 months, the screen randomly went haywire. It wasn't crushed, the screen protector isn't broken, it didn't get wet, left out in the sun or on the charger. The touch screen still works, I can still unlock it and after 5 minutes was able to play some music. But I can't read anything on the screen.
So honestly, I'm at a bit of a loss as to how this happened or what to do now. :0
I tried restarting it a few times, and I tried letting the battery die to then start it completely fresh (no idea if this would help, but it was literally all I could think of after restarting it).
Does Light Phone offer any sort of repair option or anything? In the meantime I can switch to my old Light Phone, but would definitely not want to stick to it long term as it is super slow after the 2 years of use.

side notes I would definitely recommend adding a way to view or export your calendar from the dashboard, as now I have lost everything that was on my calendar without a way to recover it until the phone is fixed. Just a recommendation that never would have occurred to me until now lol.
Also apologies, I did not know if I should flair this as a question or as a bug.
Thanks again! ^_^

2023.06.04 20:06 Doctor__Ew Opinion Needed: Power surge to my 2013 iMac computer, looking to possibly recover my data.

Hello. Looking for an opinion here for someone who isn’t too knowledgeable in data recovery. My 2013 iMac was plugged into a wall outlet (my first mistake, no surge protector, I know). My 4 year old took the small end of a lightning iPhone charger (which was currently plugged into the back of my computer) and jammed it into the electrical outlet, causing a power surge and sparks and such. Luckily he was ok. However now my computer is seemingly fried and won’t turn on. I assume for such an old computer, it may not be worth it to repair and maybe I should try to just recover the data. I know data recovery is expensive. It’s mostly just personal photos, videos, and documents and nothing for work. What do you think my best options are? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
Edit: it’s a late 2013 iMac 21.5 inch, EMC No: 2638

2023.06.04 18:56 oycetheoyster Trip Recap 5/28-6/3

We spent six nights in New Orleans. Originally, we booked the Marriott off of Canal but had issues (broken toilet and no additional rooms) and thankfully was able to move across the street to the JW Marriott. It was so much nicer, newer and cleaner (thanks chase!)
Breakfast: Bearcat CBD: Really delicious. Had the cat daddy and the blue crab omelet. Great coffee. ~30 min wait but worth it
Willa Jean: Also very delicious. Had the crawfish roll and shrimp and grits. Lots of crawfish. If I had to nitpick, the shrimp was a little overcooked but still tasty
Beignets (fav to least fav order) 1. Cafe du Monde (French market): crispy, good texture, airy but not too airy, great ratio of powder sugar to beignet. This is what I think of when I think of a beignet. However, I would say the fry is inconsistent. You don’t always get crispy.
  1. Loretta’s: I’d describe this more as a toaster strudel style beignet. It’s more flaky. Delicious and crispy. It gets the 2nd spot bc when I think of beignet, I don’t expect flaky.
  2. Marriot Lounge: This was our dark horse. It was a random beignet we ate in the buffet lounge our first morning. We didn’t even take a picture. It scared us bc we had quite a few beignet duds for the first few days and thought this was our favorite for awhile. Good representation of a pillowy beignet. The sugar to beignet ratio was good. Missing some crispiness.
  3. Cafe du Monde City Park: We may have gotten a bad batch. Kinda denser and larger holes to the point where there was not much inside. Nice crispy crust though.
  4. Criollo at the hotel Monteleone:This was another toaster strudel type of beignet. Good but not crispy like Loretta’s.
  5. Cafe beignet Royal St: this is another example of a pillowy beignet but too much dough to sugar ratio. Tighter crumb. Didn’t feel like eating more than 1.
  6. The Vintage: I really was looking forward to this one. We may have gotten a bad batch, but it was literally empty inside. Like a shell of a beignet. It was a nice crispy crust though. Maybe would have been better to get a filled one.
Mains Willie Chicken Shack: ate this the first night since our flight was delayed. Freshly fried. Really great for late night.
Felix Lakefront: grilled oysters were good. We got a cup of gumbo and it was fine but forgettable.
High Hat: We ate here bc it was near cure. Really delicious. The gulf shrimp was one of our favorite bites from our trip. They make a good pie too.
Cochon: the bread and the sauce from the wood fired oysters was one of our top bites. Oysters themselves lacked some smoky flavor and were a bit overcooked.
Dakar: we went for Wednesday family night. Delicious seafood. Loved it. Went to second vine wine before dinner and they recommended us a great bottle of chenin blanc.
Compere Lapin: I love top chef and Nina but was a bit disappointed. We had to send back the tuna tartare bc it was too salty. I think they cure it. The second one was not much better and lacking acidity. Pig ears were also too salty. Pork belly and fried chicken with coconut grits were great. Could have used some heat. I found the pasta a little fishy but cooked well.
Gris gris: shrimp and grits were delicious. Whole red fish was ok, lacked seasoning, tomato sauce tasted like it came straight from the can. Great espresso martini.
Drinks: Jewel of the south: kinda hit or miss. Drinks were maybe overly complex where it just tasted like a good punch.
Cure: this was our favorite. Interesting and innovative cocktails but also delicious. Would go back.
French 75 bar: had a French 75 and matcha colada. It was good but nothing to write home about.
For gin fizz, we went to bar tonique and bourbon o bar. Bar tonique was better.
Overall, had an amazing trip. We had 120+ bookmarks and only made a small dent. We at so much good food, and loved walking and exploring. This was mostly a food post but just wanted to mention that city park was amazing. The sculpture garden is so good. Can’t wait to come back.

New Metal Roof Review - Exposed Fastener
I had a full roof replacement from a middle of the road quote for my barn. Lessons learned from reading through this forum after the fact, but they were good at sales and I tried to be very thorough in discussions. This GC gave a 5 year workmanship warranty and the panels are supposed to have 40 years surface warranty.
Job started with sub-contractors only and GC was nowhere to be found. I found this subreddit's recommendation for a roofing consultant and they are coming out this week to go over the roof and make a list. I am genuinely unsure what can be repaired and what has to be redone with new panels and/or new purlins.
Thought this may be a fun set of pictures downselected from many more. Excited to hear opinions on the work and on what you think is a fair resolution. I have paid 1/2 before start and am holding the other half. Total is 50k USD.
My plan now is to let the GC walkaround on Monday and give me feedback. If he says everything looks good, I will say I am having an inspector come out to go over things and put together a list. I wanted to give him a chance to work on anything he sees first though. No payment of the other half until all high priority items are resolved. I am really interested to see if the GC passes it off as complete and great or if he comes to me saying he has more work to do.
Biggest concerns from my limited experience:
  1. One thing I really liked during our 5 roof visits (with this GC and team) before purchase was they identified low slope roofs and said they would butyl tape all seams (including laps between panels). Those details separated them from some other quotes, but there was no follow through and there was barely any butyl used. No lap screws either. A lot of the roof is 10 degrees. I have an extra concern that the repair of this critical item may set me up for premature screw replacement and limit my years of use for the metal before I have to do a big tear up. I am thinking I may have to up the screw diameter in less time.
  2. Panel damage seems severe at some ribs and the non-continuous panels are red flags for me.. There looks to be a lot of lack of care in the workmanship. It leaves me concerned at what else I can't see.
Torque setting?
A lot going on here. Drip edge may be lapped in the wrong order, no drip edge on the end, Not sure if correct screws were used for drip edge to metal panel. Flashing just stops...

Some of this damage shows through as holes in the roof. Other areas are covered by OSB and I can't tell as easy from inside,
These are shorter runs than other continuous panels. I am thinking they may have cut some long panels in error. to use in another place on the roof.

Damage on ribs.
Hole on top of rib from dented damage
Lap between panels is curled odd from the inside view.

2023.06.04 17:42 Weary-Effectz Took apart PC now can't reassemble

First, I'm not a builder. I learn as I go and up to right now, I'm stuck. I should start by explaining what originally happened that led me here..... This is a Legion T5 28IMB05 equipped with 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7-10700 Eight-Core and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super. I bought this about a year and a half ago and from day 1 it had weird issues like on boot up it would sometimes say, no operating system found. A couple of on and offs and poof, it would start up.
But most recently, my young son was playing a game and he said the computer shut down. I tried starting it up and nothing would happen. Literally, nothing, no light no sound no power at all. I checked the usual suspects and eventually got to the point of pulling the power supply and using the paperclip test and it passed. So I took that PSU from the Legion, popped it into an old IBM I had (so old in fact it came with Vista.....) and it turned on. So then I took the IBM PSU and plugged it into the Legion (I only plugged in the 24 pin connector and a 4 pin at the top left of the mobo (I'm new to this and have no idea what that powers.....) and it seemed to start up fine in that the fans spun up and the lighting system started pulsing as it always did (but not the fan on the heat sink). OK, so I took the Legion PSU and put it back into the Legion and it turned on! Well, the lights and fans did. But again, I only plugged in the 4 pin at the top left (says ATX3 on the board there?) and the 24 pin. So then I took the components one by one and started plugging them all back in, to see if it would continue to run.....
I first plugged in the SATA drive for the HDD and it started fine.
Then I plugged in the GPU and again, started up fine. Mind you, no monitor is plugged in at this point.
SOoI then moved on to what I think was the last thing to plug in. There is an 8 pin connector, top left, that is just to the right of the 4 pin. It also says ATX-something on the mobo but is being blocked by the heat sink I believe so I can't read it all.
Now my issue: the connectors I have from the Legion PSU are not at all labeled. There are two 4-pins that together can fit into that 8 pin (and the only others that make up 8 pins are one connector with 2 pins and another with 6 pins but I can't see that they would align at all into the 8 pin socket so I assume it isn't those). Anyway, I plugged in the two 4 pins and the computer started, the fans started AND the fan on the heat sink but now with a monitor plugged in, there is no signal coming to the monitor. The last thing I will mention is that there was a funny smell coming from the boot up when those final two 4 pins were connected.
I can't figure out what is bad here. The mobo? The GPU? Something else? Any suggestions would help a lot, from explaining what those connectors are, to any ideas on what has failed. FYI< I did take this PC first to a local repair shop that has very high ratings and the guy apparently looked at it and said, it's fried, and not worth fixing (I wasn't there so I have no idea how he made that assertion).
EDIT: here are pics, hope this is allowed?

2023.06.04 17:37 Murky_Break_8334 Automotive paint/body work

I have a little sport car I’m looking to get paint corrected and have some unpainted parts painted. There are also a few dents I’d like to get fixed. I’m ok with spending money as long as I get what I’m paying for. Would anyone have any recommendations as to where I could get this done?

2023.06.04 17:35 iicybershotii Can't decide. Topper vs new bed vs new bed + topper

I'm a 6'1" 175lbs male side sleeper. Currently live alone.
My bed is a 9 year old firm eurotop that I put 3" of memory foam on (in the form of two 1.5" toppers). My sleep is poor lately, the memory foam I have is not supportive anymore, and the eurotop on the mattress has dents in it. I think the mattress itself is in ok shape and the dents are just in the top padding.
When I bought this mattress I did so at Mattress Firm and had originally bought a basic plush mattress but exchanged it for this one, which was not any more comfortable. I found it pretty ridiculous to spend $1600 on a bed only to immediately put $100 worth of memory foam from Target on it and swore to myself I'd never buy an expensive mattress again. That being said, I've tested some mattresses in the store lately and some of them seem quite nice. I think I have a better grasp on what I need in a bed. Soft and plush.
The other issue is that my bed is massive and I'd like to downsize it a touch, just a few inches would be nice. This could also be solved by getting a new bed frame so it's not a deal breaker.
My choices:
  1. Put a new topper on my current bed
  2. Buy a budget mattress from ikea or similar and put the topper on that
  3. Buy a Sealy High Point Plush from Mattress Firm for $2100+tax
I like all 3 options for different reasons. Option 2 is probably in the lead at this time, because it offers potential solutions for all of my issues in a frugal way. But the convenience of having Mattress Firm show up and haul away my old bed and bring in a new one sounds great too.
Anyways, have you had to make a similar decision? What route did you choose? Are you happy with your decision and what did you learn?
Thanks for your time.

2023.06.04 17:35 Lost_Roku_Remote People who scoff at $500 car payments are out of touch

Anytime I hear people talk about car payments there’s always that one person who’s like “A $500 car payment?? Are you crazy?” Like I don’t think people realize how expensive cars have gotten. If you want to go out today and buy a new Honda Civic with no money down and you have good credit, a 72m loan @6% will cost you about $500 a month. That’s for one of the cheapest cars you can buy. Well you might be thinking well just buy used then. Ok so let’s say you find a nice 2014 Civic with 80k miles for example. (Out of warranty I might add) you’re going to get a worse INT rate, and you’re going to have to finance a shorter term. Chances are you’ll be around $400 a month for a much older and less reliable car. So I don’t understand how people can’t wrap their head around car payments getting increasingly expensive. I get $500+ car payments are hard to swallow. But most people would rather pay a couple hundred dollars more a month than potentially risk thousands of dollars in repairs for a vehicle that’s not that much cheaper.

2023.06.04 17:27 undyinghumility My experience with the 2022 3070ti MiniLED 165HZ (RW) model.

Pros:
Weight is not a bad as i first thought it would be, its easy to handle for its size.
Beutiful display and good touchscreen, switching to tablet mode is nearly seemless.
The handling in tablet mode is good, i thought that having the keys on the backsite could get annoiying but you dont really feal them.
Good performance
Generaly just beutiful design and good rgb backlight for keyboard.
Ok loudspeakers, clear sound ok bass.
No workload = no fan noises, really quiet in general
Cons:
Battery life, i get about 5 hours max with most things disabled (Screenbrightness 60hz no dedicated gpu and more)
Needed to hardreset and bootet up from a new drive, cuz windows 11 died on me after installing updates when i got the laptop, its hard. Needed to preinstall drivers via usb after booting up and repairing from another harddrive.
Asus software buggy as always, id recomend simply deinstalling and moving over to ghelper.
No dedicated lan slot, needed to buy a usb to lan adapter (wlan module is quite good tho)
Only 2 usb slots.
Had sounddriverissues, but could be bcs hard reset.
Laptop can get quiet hot on the leftside of the keyboard, for those who really want to abuse this laptop id recommend buying a keyboard and mouse to use it in fold mode (im using it lile that for gaming)
All in all id recomend buying the older model becouse it has really good price to performance and is the best laptop/notebook ive had so far.
You need to watch out for qc tho, ive heard many had problems with it and returned theirs.
Deinstall all asus related crapware, install ghelper, saves allot of nerves and is wayyy better for the Battery! Btw AmA i gladly help.

2023.06.04 17:24 globalgayety Emergency door frame repair

So, last night at 11:44 PM someone tried to kick in our front door. Dented the door and split the frame/jamb. We were home and immediately ran to investigate but they were gone. Just one kick. Looking at the neighbor's doorbell cams, it appears to have been three teens and likely just a random act of vandalism.
We're left with needing to get the door frame/jamb repaired as soon as possible. Any recommendations? If it matters, we're in the Station North area.
Thanks in advance!
