How should I go about starting my business? Do I do all the legal stuff first? Like getting the business registered? Or do I play around with products I like and order random stuff to find good quality stuff?

I live in DC and I already have my DC concealed pistol license, and I completed my Maryland pistol qualification at the same time I did my DC CPL training, so I’ve been meaning to put in for my Maryland WCP for times when I cross over the border from DC. It looks like I’ll have to end up putting in contact information for a bunch of employers and potentially information for and about my ex-wife.

To be clear, I’m not talking about the three required references; I’m talking about the contact information for former relationships and for former employers. Got an email sent to our former Network Administrator from a CDW email address over the holiday weekend that sounded like a catch up / sales call request for a phone meeting. I responded politely to advise that the former Administrator was no longer with the company in our IT department and that we were perfectly happy with our current adobe creative suite licensing in the portal and had no plans to add additional licenses or remove any currently allocated licenses. Thought that was the end of it, I periodically get this type of email from current or former vendors we do or have done business with in the past. I got a response with another email that had been CCed telling me to refer to the linked items for our licensing agreement and that this was not a sales email and the meeting and Audit are required.
Apparently they haven't been doing audits the past seven years and now they're doing them again.
We only have a small number of licensed users with the full adobe creative suite which is licensed through their portal user accounts, and each user has a single activated computer or laptop (marketing team members who do graphics or video editing).
Has anyone been able to professionally and politely tell these guys to go pound sand?
I didn't care much for the prickly response from them. Had they worded their original email different and told me it was time for a mandatory audit to begin with I would have responded accordingly. The times they requested for possible dates for the meeting fall during my vacation cruise and I handed it off to our IT director to schedule and have the meeting.

This one's old, but I just thought of it and cringed internally at the stupidity.
I was working at a sandwich franchise owned by this mid-50s couple. The woman was the only one I met because by this point their marriage only survived because neither wanted to split up the businesses in a divorce.
I had worked at a different location before, but under a different owner.
When I started, this location was sharing a store manager with another location and owner made her full time at the other location and expected me to just run things, without asking me. I was the only one over 18 and I had a food safety license and store manager experience, so she just decided I'd take over (at minimum wage!).
One day right after I started, owner comes in and says "[other location] needs change" and takes $60 in rolled coins out of our safe. Okay cool. I write up a slip that says "safe short $60, owed by [other location]" and go to put it in our change box. Owner says "no what are you doing?" And I tell her I don't want the closers to get confused when the safe count is short. She then starts talking really slowly and like I'm stupid and explains that the safe will even itself out from the money we make throughout the day.
At this point, in my head, I'm like: am I being punk'd? Am I actually dumb? What is this woman saying to me right now?
I ask her, if you can just randomly take money out of the safe and it will even itself out from sales (somehow without making sales calculations go off), why wouldn't people just constantly steal from the safe?
She said she didn't have time for this conversation, grabbed the coins, and left for the day. Whatever lady, your bookkeeping problem.
A few days later she comes back. She does a safe audit because "I just have a feeling, something feels off". Safe is short $60. I made a drop the previous day for $35 so I must've pocketed that money instead of putting it in the safe. Where did the other $25 go? She has no idea but I was the one talking about people stealing from the safe so I obviously did it.
I laughed in her face, took my write up, and then worked there probably 6 more months because I hardly saw her after that. But when I left I took down all my licensing (which is required to be displayed in order to stay open) and called the health department on my way out the door.

Me and my brother plan on starting a pressure washing business 50/50. Have some idea of how to start it but not exactly all the step by step procedures. Ex: Do we need an LLC, EIN, business license? Etc. It’s just me and him for now with hopes to grow.

I'm replacing a machine and the machine clearly shows it's got an activated copy of office, showing "Microsoft 365 Apps for Business" in the "Account" section. But nobody is signed into office. It's a shared computer with a shared account so I can't just sign in someone else's account and have access to their data freely available to others.
What is the proper way to do this? I looked up shared computer activation but it seems that's intended for a shared computer with individual accounts.
Is there any way to find out how this copy of office was activated? I also tried checking for product keys, but no surprise nothing was found.

A friend recently got a letter from the comptroller of MD ("Information Request - EXTNF"), and is really worried. Picture of the letter below.
Friend is generally pretty paranoid, big distrust of the government, and I don't think he's ever filed taxes. He also runs a small handyman business, but I'm not sure about licensing or paperwork. Probably from his level of just every day general paranoia, I can guess how he's got it set up, but I don't really know.
He's not sure what his next steps should be, and is really freaking out.
