I found this tooth in the fossil pit outside of the Aurora Fossil Museum in Aurora, NC, USA. The fossil material inside the fossil pit comes from the nearby Lee Creek Mine which has been closed to public collecting since 2008. Fossils from Aurora tend to be worth more than the same fossils found in other locations because the mine is closed to collecting. The tooth is from the Pungo River Formation which is about 12-20 million years old. It is 1.3cm (0.51in) wide and tall. I haven't been able to find a good enough variety of these teeth being sold online to confidently state how much it is worth. Buried Treasure Fossils is the only site I have been able to find that has records of selling symphyseal Notorynchus teeth. Only one of those was from the Lee Creek Mine. A 1.7cm (0.68in) Notorynchus cepedianus symphyseal tooth sold for $750. It did have some chipping on the bottom of its root, but not as big of a chunk missing as mine. A near perfect 1.4cm (0.56in) tooth from Belgium was sold for $525. Multiple 1.3cm (0.50in) teeth with worn down roots from Maryland (probably the most common location to find this species) are up for sale and some sold for $395.
I would guess my tooth is worth something around $500-$650, but for all I know, there is an equal chance of it being worth anything between $450-$700.

My mom (65) died very unexpectedly last week and its still very raw. She was in great health, exercised 2 hours a day and had a very healthy diet. Regardless, she went into sudden cardiac arrest and died. She and my dad moved closer to me and my family about 6 years ago and we saw each other every week. They are very active in my kids activities (7f and 11f) attending every game, concert, event. This has been devastating for my kids since Grandma was absolutely their favorite person in the world.
My father-in-law (FIL) is 72 and very narcissistic. My wife isn't a huge fan of him either but knows he loves our kids, so we let him stay with us several times a year (he lives about 6 hours away) for birthdays, holidays, or other major events. My wife is no contact with her mom (FIL and MIL divorced before my wife was born), so MIL is completely out of the picture and our kids don't even know about her.
My kids simply adored my mom and merely put up with my FIL. My FIL and Mom never got along, always competing for my kids attention (my dad doesn't particularly like FIL either, but is very friendly with him to avoid confrontation.) FIL was always upset/jealous that kids preferred to spend time with my mom and arguments often ensued on birthdays and Christmas (FIL arguing with Mom, FIL arguing with wife/me, FIL arguing with my 11yo daughter...)
FIL is coming to stay with us for 10 days over the summer to celebrate a birthday and 4th of July. I'm not sure how to handle it since this will be the first time we see him since my mom died. I'm pretty sure he won't say anything to make us upset, but I also suspect that he's secretly happy that my mom died since now he will get more attention. I honestly don't want to be near him but can't really ban him from birthday events. My wife says I'm overreacting and that her dad is good in situations like this (whatever that means…)

Jervis Tetch is a dandy madman. Taking inspiration from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, he puts on the guise of the Mad Hatter and commits crimes while doing so. Sometimes he wants to steal hats for his own purposes, other times he obsessively seeks out his Alice. When one looks past the sinister brim and giant buckteeth, a dark, tragic individual surfaces, but don't let that fool you. He'll still be crooning "Callooh! Callay!" as his vorpal blade goes snicker-snack through your neck.

In the three years I have been in the workforce after high school, I have worked two jobs and leveraged my experience until I eventually broke onto the IT industry. With a good salary, I felt really good about my prospects in life and started a lease near the downtown area. I am still very much chasing the "American Dream". Pushing more income, increased stability, but I feel so numb, the more I go up, the more success I encounter, the less people that look like me and act like me I see. I have felt peer pressured to hide my Puerto Rican culture because it just feels weird to have a Puerto Rican flag hanging from bright orange car, or in my front door.. I have a new washer and dryer, yet I found myself driving 35 minutes to wash my clothes in the laundromat that I used to do it before because there were a lot of diverse cultures, Puerto Ricans, Asians, Africans that I could connect with. I go to the local Asian or African markets as well. I feel like an outsider, even though the U.S is not owned by a specific group, it is supposed to be a country where all kinds of people come in to succeed. In many ways I feel like a guest, someone who was "graciously" allowed to live in this community. Is this normal? Has anyone else felt this?

I (46 F) am afraid I don’t have enough time with my father (80 M) and don’t know what to do
My mother is a narc. I realized that in 2008 when I got married and she tried to ruin the wedding for me and my husband ( in addition to other previous incidents that I naively didn’t comprehend ) for months after that I tried to understand what was the reason for her behavior and did some research online and finally understood why. As with narc ppl she tried to turn everybody including family members and relatives from both sides ( her family , my father family even tried to brainwash my mother in law ) against me. My father is clearly a puppet in her hands. Not to bore you with the details I went NC with her and LC with dad for a few years. In 2018 I was diagnosed with congenital heart disease , my dad with prostate cancer and my husband with hypertension within weeks. My relationship with my dad became a bit better especially that mom left him to go overseas and stay with my brother who was on a scholarship. I spoke to my sisters again. I had an open heart surgery in 2019. My father had therapy and became stable and is following up routinely. After a while my narc mom tried to pull strings again. My relationship with everybody became strained and honestly I was afraid my life will be ruined by my mom interfering so I went to very LC again. I was ok with this very LC situation for a while ( especially that I have been having other health problems : removed a benign tumor few months ago ) but then I learned that my father have cardiac problems a couple of months ago. He is taking some kind of infusion every 3 months. I used to take care of his follow up with doctors and appointments for prostate Ca in the hospital I used to work in until things became strained because of mom and I resigned anyway. My father is almost 80yrs old. I’m thinking that may be not a lot of time is left, but every time I try to come close my mom pops in and try to manipulate things and twist them to her advantage. Sometimes I think the best thing is to stay LC. Sometimes I feel worried, sad and anxious about my father. I really don’t know what to do now. I’m under a lot of stress. I feel like I’m gonna collapse soon. I don’t think there is a solution as long as my mom is in the pic. Any advice or love is very much appreciated. Note : ESL , also I feel so depressed so my thoughts are all over the place, sorry .

My father became very sick in Ramadan ( the fasting month of Muslims ) and couldn’t fast for about a week ( he never stopped fasting no matter what he is going thru ) I spoke to him on the phone and he was coughing severely and barely breathing!! I was so alarmed !! I have 5 adult siblings that live at home with him plus 4 married and living outside the house and they seem to not exerting any effort to take care of him. He went to E/R twice and still not a lot of improvement. I was barely sleeping thinking about him, praying that he becomes better and practicing other spiritual activities for him. I know I sound silly but I couldn’t do anything more because of my narc mom. I was checking on him every day multiple times. He became better ( surprisingly ) and his cough subsided and almost breathed normally again. May be it’s the emotional support and love that made him better. Any way fast forward to Eid, he collapsed again. This time I told him I WILL attend with him his appointments with the hematology clinic. I can’t describe to you the moment we saw each other at the hospital ! Imagine an 80 year old man crying like a baby !! He lost it in front of people!! He said I feel better already that I met you my daughter!! I cried a bit and then we both got a hold on ourselves and went to the appointment. The physician was a very sweet lady that was considerate and helpful. My father proudly told het that I am a nuclear medicine technical specialist. I told her that dad was having this cough that wont go, she told me she will speak to her colleague- a thoracic consultant- and we can see him immediately!! Long story short I spent 4-5 hours with him performing all the tests and was diagnosed with lung infection. He was put on antibiotics and cough syrup and inhalers. He became better. Since then I am attending with him all his appointments ( it had been around two months) I am taking care of him as much as possible ( remotely) after we finish each appointment, we go to sit together in a coffee inside the hospital. He confessed to me that my mother is treating him poorly and have turned all my siblings against him also and they also are uneasy with him. An 80 yr old man, sick , fragile , hearing impaired and walks with a cane drives himself to his appointments and attends his appointments alone. I forgave my father for previously siding with my mother - after all she is a narc and very manipulative and is a master in brainwashing - she is so evil, she used him, convinced him to write her half of the around 3 million dollars house and most probably took advantage of his illness to transfer the rest of his money to her bank account. She is trying to get rid of him !! He literally told me she want him dead ! My father is sane and will never make up stories like this about her. I forgot to mention that after few meetings he asked me if I want to go back to work and told him that I am still not stable health wise so he insisted on me to give him my bank account and wired me around 26k dollars. I think that is what is left in his bank account. He have a retirement stipend every month. So he is basically living on that stipend alone ( and provides for the people living with him at home aka mom and siblings ) I’m scared now that she might cause his health to deteriorate ( switching pills or something ) he told me that once he told the house help to not put salt in lunch because of his cardiac condition and he heard mother later telling her to put MORE salt !! She is trying to make him sick and trying to drive him crazy !! No wonder he is so depressed. I thought of inviting him to live with me but I know that my evil narc mom will use it to her advantage and may create a seen in front of the neighbors and apparently everyone as she has done it before with her sister in law in front of her VIP guests ( reputation is everything where we live ) and of course we don’t want this drama. In terms of meeting my dad and attending his appointments with him to help and take care of him, it’s exhausting but rewarding relationship wise. We are both happy that things are much better between us. But I am worried about him. I wake up sometimes at night thinking of different scenarios of what will happen in the near future to him. Today he told me he became sick suddenly during driving and that he had to stop driving and park for a while until he is a bit better before resuming driving home. It’s terrifying. I don’t know what to do. I don’t think there is anything that can be dine tbh. Any advice or love is very much appreciated.
