Hello,
I'm a newbie on homelab, I have little server at home, and I'm planning to have a (real) homelab. With that homelab, what I want to achive is to be involved more in deep in the homelab things and use it as platform to help with my CS studies, I'm at the university right now and, at work, I'm a devops, but I want to have some things like homeassistant to coordinate all my domotic and CCTV, improve my skills on things like programming, testing, ML, OpenStack, and move all my present docker services to the openstack kubernetes solution.
The present server which already has a Megaraid 9460-16i raid card, 48GB RAM and a Ryzen 5 3600 will be used as one of the NAS solutions on the future homelab, but on the compute side I don't know what to choose. I recently saw that on Aliexpress and Ebay there are many interesting Old Xeons like the 2699v4 at a good bundle price, but also saw that the new nuc's have a big compute skills by the price.
With these different solutions I don't know which will be the best fit solution for my requirements. On the kubernetes side, I know that all solutions will be fine, but for the openstack and ML I don't know which of both solutions will be the best. My most important concerns at this point are the compute performance, the space requirements (my rack will be not greater than 15-20U and also I will have some switches and all the racks stuff) the power consumption and the noise.
I know that the Xeon's can be on a dual socket motherboard with big amounts of RAM, but concers about the power consumption that they will have and the performance against the newer NUCs, make me arise some doubts about them
At this point, what do you think that will be the best solution for the case? Do you have any other alternative? I'll be glad to read all your comments and suggestions.

On the 10th itāll be one month since my nearly 18 year old Jack Russell terrier, Bandit, passed away. He was my first dog. I had him since I was 9. Thatās two thirds of my life. He was the sweetest dog ever. He was with me through every major life event. He was my best friend.
He lost most of his hearing and sight a few years ago, but up until maybe two months ago he was fine. Slower, but fine.
He had some fatty tumors for years that the vet said not to worry about and they didnāt seem to bother him. In February he stopped being able to jump on and off the couch. In April he started to form a new lump near his hip on his back left leg. At the end of April he could no longer walk more than a few steps on his own and had to be carried everywhere and held up to eat/drink/use the bathroom. At the beginning of May we knew it was time.
We made the appointment and on May 10th my mom, sister, and I drove to the vet together with Bandit knowing we wouldnāt be returning home with him. We talked things over with the vet and then we cried and took turns holding him and saying our goodbyes. When it was officially time, I held him in my arms as my mom and sister pet him and sobbed. I told him it was ok for him to go, and thanked him for all he had done for us. Then he gently went to sleep forever. It was the absolute hardest thing Iāve ever had to do in my life.
It hasnāt really gotten easier. Iāve noticed I try not to think about it because when I do I just lose it all over again. Iām an adult with a career and no one that I deal with on a daily basis cares that my dog died a month ago aside from my immediate family. Itās not socially acceptable to break down over it at work when a Snapchat memory of him comes up or I hear his name used in a different context. Yesterday I changed my phone case for the first time in months and one of his hairs was stuck inside of it. I completely fell apart when I saw it.
Tomorrow I go to pick up his ashes. I was away for weddings and work the past few weeks and no one else in my family felt strong enough to go get them, just like they didnāt feel strong enough to be the ones to hold him through his transition into death. Which is fine. I tend to have to be the strong one. Or at least appear to be the strong one. But Iām really hurting which is why I just needed to get this out.

I (16F) have been best friends with F (15F) for the past 2 years. Honestly the friendship was always great, we went for over a year with out so much as a minor disagreement, it was one of the healthiest friendships I had ever had, and I was super happy in it. In August of last year, we started getting closer. She would come to all of my performances, and I started getting interested in a guy I had recently started talking to - and while she was a bit disapproving of me dating him, I didnāt think too much of it, she thought I could do better but I was content. I wrote it off. I stayed in that relationship for a few months, and during it me and her started to talk less, and she became more and more disapproving of the guy I was dating. Me and him broke up mutually, and about a month later, I saw that F had posted something on her story, and it was fairly vague, just that she thought this girl was super fine and she wanted her, and I was excited for her so I asked who, and thatās when she told me it was ME. It was a day before an extremely important audition I had, (which I had already told her about) and she messaged me that night confessing all her feelings that had been built up for over 8 months. (like, could you not have said something earlier, or waited until after the audition was done????) I read the texts she sent me, and drove home from work bawling my eyes out. That was the 3rd best friend I had, IN A ROW catch feelings for me that were not shared on my end. I told her in person, thatās I valued the friendship more than a relationship, and that I wanted to stay friends, she never really took no as an answer, so we both just avoided the topic as much as possible. A couple of months went by, and I was going to prom with one of friends, and she was super unhappy about it, but she had never really liked him so I wrote it off. But then, like as soon as I had finished one of my AP exams, she messaged me saying that she wanted an answer on whether I was interested in her - and I told her that if I ever had, the way she handled our arguments eliminated any sort of possibility of that ever happening, and that we should just stay friends. She became super defensive, and angry, and began to say that I was a slut that just led people on constantly. (A lot of our mutual friends had feelings for me at one point, but nothing ever came of any of it.) After that the friendship was never really the same, some of her friends that had usually been friendly to me, started to post pretty mean stuff about me on their social media pages. I talked to F, and told that her that it was fine if she was upset with me, but there was no need to get her friends to post mean things about me publicly due to her encouragement. These events brought up some trauma i had tried to push away for a long time- a few years prior, my best friend, M, caught feelings for me, and after i rejected her, she spread false rumors about me to all of our friends, and i was out sick at the time, unable to defend myself, and came back with almost al of my friends ignoring me. So this event kind of reminded me of all that, and it made me view F in a very different light. In my eyes, if you liked someone, even in the past, why wouldnāt you want them to be happy, even if it means they arenāt with you? We started talking again, after a few days of not communicating. I moved on, and it looked like she was moving on. But things arenāt the same, and they never will be. Weāre talking less and less, and I brought this up with one of our mutual friends. He told me F was trying to distance herself from me to kill off any feelings she had, and she doesnāt really know how to reframe our bond as one purely platonic, and not romantic like she had seen it. And while I understand, and I know it might sound selfish, Iām upset with how much distance her liking me has created, and how it has wrecked our friendship. Iām mad at her for waiting 8 months to say something, for not telling me earlier, for not respecting my decisions, or treating me with any respect as of late because sheās trying to move on. Thereās been a massive lack of communication. Iām upset with her for ever liking me in the first place, even tho itās not her fault. Iām upset with myself, for unintentionally ever giving her any hints that I wanted to be in a relationship with her. And with this happening for the 3rd time in a row with my best friends, all of whom are lesbians, I canāt help but feel a bit frustrated. As a queer person myself, a lot of my friends just happen to be members of the community, and so donāt want to distance from other people like me, i ever stuff like this. I just feel like a lot the people who are close to me view me only romantically, and that I canāt be a person people can just be friends with. Why do you want to be in a relationship with a person that you canāt respect, or view as a PERSON? Is the attraction just physical, and are they just putting up with me because they want something physical out of it? I donāt want this. i want a normal friendship, nothing more. Iām upset that someone who said they liked me, and someone who was close friends with me, can hurt my feelings so badly because the feelings werenāt shared. I hate all of it, and I canāt help but feel like itās my fault too. Feel free to offer some advice, or ask me questions. Iām pretty lost.

A bit about my background. I've been working in some data related field for about a decade now. I've worked in logistics, defense and tech. I've done operations analysis, budget analysis and decision support analysis. I've also been in leadership, technical and support staff roles. I've recently helped in hiring and recruiting, but I'm not a recruiter or a hiring manager.

- Experience and domain knowledge is king. Work experience and projects are the first thing I look at, because it's usually the only thing that was really different from resume to resume. The main thing I looked for was outcome - did your analysis work/project inform important decisions? Did it provide insight into some process or measure? Did it find anomalies, discrepancies or gaps? etc.
- Education matters. The resumes I saw already went through a first or second cut. Every resume I saw had at least a bachelors, predominantly with STEM degrees, I'd say at least half had masters and a sprinkling had PhDs. I honestly didn't pay much attention to the education portion and it didn't have much effect on my decision to reject or pass on.
- Most DAs are internal hires. The resumes I looked at were all external. I can't say for sure, but I believe that internal applicants went through a more streamlined process. Most of the people I work with (including myself) are internal hires/transfers.
- Reputation and networking is extremely important. I understand that not everyone will have a reputation or a robust network, especially those that are starting out, but if you want an advantage, you need to develop and leverage your network and build a good reputation.
- Certs don't mean much, if anything at all, at least not by themselves. There are some certs that are stand outs, i.e. PE, PMP, CISSP, CEH, etc. but those are very industry and job specific, and if you have one of those certs it's highly likely that you have some work experience and domain knowledge that goes with it, which will be far more interesting than simply having the cert.

Although it's a good problem to have, I am currently employed and have been applying to jobs. I have many interview requests, 2nd and 3rd interview requests coming after I've already been absent for 2 days packed with interviews. I was wondering if it's suspicious to my current employer by frequent absenteeism lately (I dont normally take this much time off) and how can i keep it under wraps in case I do not get any of the jobs Im interviewing for? Now over a year later Iām laying in bed after a bad fight. Letās bring it back to earlier in the day. I went to work and he went to help his dad at his nannyās house. They were replacing his cabinets. Texted him once or twice through out the day to check in or something interesting. He would reply it was fine. When I got home I called checked in. He said they were almost done. A few hours pass by and he calls me and ask if I want Chinese I said yes. An hour passes by I text him asking him if he was coming home. He said he was helping his brother with a door. Half an hour passes by and I text him saying I might drive over there myself.( I was being sarcastic but apparently thatās not being read through text). He then calls and I say a joke in the beginning like your building a door or a house. He doesnāt say anything but letās me know he is on the way. He gets home and I say omg took you long enough. He then blows up on me and says that he can home whenever he wants and he doesnāt like me nagging him. He also stated that he doesnāt like the way I greet him. Which is crazy to me because I have been asking him for weeks to give me a kiss when he gets home. With no change! I always have to beg for it. At that point Iām pissed Iām like so donāt come home and instead of blowing up on me you could have communicated that you donāt like something. I walked away.
A couple hours go by and Iām laying in bed he decides he is ready to go to bed too. Iām still pissed so Iām watching my YouTube videos trying to get myself to go to sleep. He then tells me to put my headphones again pissed. I ignore him . He then says I will send you back home which he knows is touchy for me. I then say something and then the next I know I say āI think your exās werenāt crazy I think you are the problem. You treat people like s*** and your family. You play the victim card. I can be wrong with the way I greet you but I have asked you for weeks to greet with a kiss and nothing has changed. You always say I do something wrong and I need to change but you canāt do that same. You are so self centered and you will be lonely and miserable.ā He then gets up and leaves. I wanna know if I am in the wrong? Should I apologize?

- Card for Grocery - I spend 24k/month for grocery purchases. If hindi pa ulit mag waive si Citibank this year, i-cut ko na and upgrade my BPI Blue to BPI Amore. I heard waivable ang AF ni Amore, anybody knows the yearly spend to waive AF?
- Card for Dining - I recently applied for HSBC Gold Visa, na approve naman. Will plan to use this solely for dining (I spend siguro around 8-12K monthly for dining including Grabfood). I heard waivable din ang AF for 100k annual spend, if true, pasok na ako dito.
- Card for Other Purchases - I am currently applying for Chinabank Cash Rewards card, which gives 6% for other purchases (as long as non-grocery, non-gas, non-drugstore I think). Minimum of 1k transaction to qualify, and rebate cap is 1k only per month. I spend around 10-15k monthly for these purchases (e.g. shopping, etc). Ang catch lang dito is may AF na 300 monthly. Di ko pa sure if this is waiveable (may naka try na ba?). Also, may nakaka-alam kaya kung yung grab cash-in will earn the 6% rebate too?
Would you advise for me to get a 4th card for the seasonal purchases? If yes, I am thinking either:
- BPI Visa Signature - I am a preferred client so I am qualified for 3 years free AF, and yung CL ko sa BPI is qualified na to upgrade yung Blue ko to this. However ayoko magbayad ng AF after that, ang mahal pa naman and hindi ko maaabot yung 1.2M annual spend. Any preferred client who had their AF waived after 3 yrs?
- EW Mastercard Plat - free AF for life so hindi ko na to iintindihin, though iniisip ko pa kung worth applying nga. Mababa kase ang foreign transaction fee ni EW. Kaso medyo mataas palitan sa 40 pesos = 1 point. I dont care much about the travel perks (e.g. lounges etc) mas concern ko yung cash back / cash credits.
- BDO Amex Cashback - ok sana na unli yung cash back kaso not widely accepted ang Amex and I heard a lot of struggles using this online, etc. Ang gusto ko lang dito is 2% ang cashback sa grab cash-in at FB ads, pero di rin naman ganon kalaki ang spend ko sa dalawang yan, mga less than 5K/month lang din. Atsaka 2% cb din sa foreign spend, yun eh kung tatanggapin yung card hehehe.
