2023.06.09 08:55 hairball201 I was almost over it then had the worst flight experience (possible trigger)

Hello! I developed aviophobia around 1o years ago rather spontaneously. I have ADHD and ASD so it's hard for me to not get overstimulated on flights which contributes to my overall anxiety. Recently I took a flight involving 3 connections and 19h overall time from UK to Thailand. It was a big deal for me because I do get quite anxious about flying.
The outbound trip went fairly well although I was still anxious for the inbound trip. I tried a lot of different methods to control the anxiety - the 5,4,3,2,1 method, breathing exercises, distractions and educating myself.
The first flight of the return trip (Koh Samui to Bangkok) was beautiful! I was almost completely relaxed most of the way after we reached cruising altitude and I didn't even notice that we had landed it was that smooth! I was thinking to myself, wow, maybe we've cracked it - if the rest are like this I'll be fine.
Flight 2 was from Bangkok to Dubai. While we were taxiing, it started raining very heavily and there were a lot of lightning flashes outside. We were delayed by about 30 minutes, which I assumed was as the pane was waiting for the storm to pass. There was a break in the rain and we took off. As we got to about 2000ft we entered the clouds and all you could see outside was near constant strobe lightning flashes. The cabin was shaking horrendously so I put a blanket over my head so I couldn't see the lightning. The plane suddenly dropped really aggressively, it felt like going over a big drop on a roller coaster, and a lot of the passengers screamed. I didn't scream but I was literally trembling uncontrollably which I have never felt before. I stuck the blanket in my mouth so I didn't scream. A minute or so later and we cleared the storm cloud, the turbulence eased off. I think it might have been a microburst that caused the sudden drop feeling?
The rest of the flight was OK, there was one more episode of turbulence which was bad enough for the pilot to instruct the cabin crew to take their seats - thankfully they sat in the row in front of me as that was closest to them, and started sharing stories about when they've had severe turbulence in the past.
The older man next to me was a very frequent flyer and said he has only ever had two bad fligtt experiences, once many years ago which was worse, and then this take off. He said its unlikely I'll have something bad like that again.
Funnily enough having that experience sort of empowered me for the next flight. I realised if that is what bad means, then that's the point I should start worrying at. I coped through the final flight with a combination of catching my anxious thoughts and telling myself to only worry when something actually happens, and also role playing as a pilot in my head ("We are altering our course a few degrees east, we are changing altitude to 38000ft etc").

2023.06.09 08:55 Vlado47 Flying an IFR flight plan but canceling in the air

Hi all,
I am currently trying to get more IFR flight reps in during a monotonous period of time building (1000+). I have been enjoying filing and flying IFR plans out of my busy Bravo airspace region. I want to keep doing so to both stay proficient/current and to add a challenge after hundreds of hours of VFR time building.
My question is this: Does ATC get annoyed/worried/pissed off when you cancel your IFR in the air before reaching your destination and then NOT landing? I am not referring to canceling when flying into a Bravo or Charlie airport, but rather small uncontrolled fields in the country where there is little to no traffic. I fully understand the regs of canceling in the air and going VFR after they officially cancel and clear you to change freqs. But the question is if they remain looking at you on the radar as a VFR target and see that you never land, do a course reversal, etc. and if that causes them any concern.
Its not always convenient to drop down 7-9000 feet when in a nice leaned-out cruise simply to do a touch and go when trying to be economical with gas and time. But it is super cool to file IFR each time. So I hope this is a moot point and that ATC could care less what you do after you cancel and get the VFR hand off.
Thanks

2023.06.09 08:52 Sea-Growth-6077 Arrived 7hrs later

AC made me check my bag at the gate because I was a passenger boarding later. The flight had mechanical issues, we were delayed for 1.5 hours on tarmac, then we deplaned.
They then made an announcement saying everyone had to rebook. I rebooked with the agent for a flight 5 hours later (that was the earliest one). Despite the policy that AC has, which is that no one with checked bag should be rebooked.
After I found out it was a mistake, employee told me to hang tight and wait and they would try to get me back on the same flight.
The flight I was on ended up getting fixed and 2 hrs earlier than I did.
Multiple errors: - mechanical issue not caught until plane was on tarmac - staff told us to rebook even though this was incorrect information - staff rebooked me even though there was policy saying I shouldnโ€™t be rebooked - staff told me not to do anything, resulting in my bag being prematurely moved and me being stuck on the later plane
I was 7hrs delayed and offered a measly $300 in compensation. What can I do?

2023.06.09 08:49 pointermess Getting back into FPV - which remote is recommended?

Hello, I was into FPV like 5 years ago until I unfortunately had to stop due to time constraints. I would like to get back into FPV but my Remote (Taranis Q X7) which was bound my drones is broken so I need a new one.
Most of my drones are Emax TinyHawks and a I also have a 5" iFlight Nazgul with XM+.
Which remote would you recommend? I would prefer to start with a TinyHawk before I take out my 5" again. Which remote would you recommend? Ive heard there are remotes which can bind to any receiver, unlike my old remote which was only able to bind to specific FrSky stuff. Do they really exist?
Thanks!

2023.06.09 08:48 lanip00h Check in when guest gets delayed

Hi! New host here. My guests flight got delayed a whole day and I already took photos and uploaded for check in. I know there is the 24 hour rule for photos in case you need to submit a claim. My question is do I need to take new photos? I can, but I'm just wondering... what if I had already dropped off the car? And wasn't able to take new photos? Is there a loophole where photos are within 24 hours of start of original start of trip?

2023.06.09 08:46 Present_Coat8223 Which program should I go for? NMIMS's Global BBA Program or Jindal's Global Bcom + Bachelors of Business + MBA program?

my_qualifications: I am an IB student from Pune who got accepted into Jindal School of Banking and Finance (The Global Bcom Program - 2 yrs Jindal, Bachelors of Business last year Deakin Uni Australia and then I've an option to continue MBA in International Business at Deakin after which I will be eligible for post study work rights in Australia) and I have been selected for NMIMS's 3 year International BBA program (2 yrs NMIMS and last year at Kingston university UK after which I will have the opportunity to continue there at Kingston for post grad or idk).
Since I am from Pune, NMIMS will be closer and my parents too are more inclined towards NMIMS since it is more reputable and closer to home but I don't want to go to NMIMS since their Kingston program is bad since Kingston itself is a t2 uni in the UK at best and moreover there's a cost of living crisis going on there. On the other hand, Jindal in sonipat will be far from home but their program is way better than that of NMIMS but Jindal is known for their bratty students who got into through $$$$.
Please guide me as to what would be a better option for me. Cost wise the NMIMS program would be about 40-45 lakhs and the Jindal program would be approximately 97 lakhs (both costs are inclusive of living costs, external utility costs, tuition fees and flight tickets for travel). My end goal is to mostly end up with a high paying job in the Finance sector. (Please forgive me if the flair that I've chosen is wrong).

2023.06.09 08:44 Immortal_Thunder Blackshark V2 Pro 2023 CSGO Audio

Needed to replace my cloud flight's after 3 years, decided to pick up the 2023 blackshark v2 pros today.

The sound is great for music and other titles but CSGO is my main game and I can't stand the audio. I've played with EQ settings all day and can't find anything that feels comfortable. Regardless of normalization, one of either the high or low end are very strong and there's no in between. Everything is loud yet sounds somewhat muffled/far away. It is unbearable. CS is the only game that seems to have any problem and frankly, its the only one I care about. (stereo audio, I'm not interested in spacial/surround)

Outside of CS, the blackshark audio quality is objectively better overall but I'm struggling to find a reason not to return them and get another pair of $80 flights or something else.

Any settings/ideas to try before I return them?

2023.06.09 08:44 Leading_Delay_6339 Anymore places to server hop for chest?

Currently I farm chest in the temple at the upper sky islands, but it takes long to get there because I only have fire flight from my flame fruit (not awakend)
I also have another option at the lower sky islands where I could get the diamond and gold chests close by but it doesn't give much money
Anymore places I haven't discovered yet?

2023.06.09 08:37 SuspiciousWaltz5282 ZERO Saturday PM return flights and only a scattering of early AM flights - HOU & IAH

So, I'm up at a ridiculous hour playing the "GoWild" 24 hour window game and couldn't help but notice something rather...odd as I've played with the website over the course of the past hour or so.
While there were beaucoup Go Wild flights flying out of IAH on Friday evening from Frontier, there are ZERO GW Saturday PM return flights and only a scattering of early Saturday AM GW flights - at both HOU & IAH. This means that though you could fly out of Houston if you got a GW ticket yesterday, you can't return tomorrow for the most part (as most of the very rarely"available" GW AM flights depart before the Friday PM flight would even get there). I tried a ridiculous number of cities and it's exactly the same.
Now either there are ALOT of people in Houston on this pass who all booked at 12:00:01 am simultaneously/during an early booking period and Frontier has not released any more Go Wild seats as of 1:30am Friday morning for Saturday, or Frontier is throttling Go Wild users by trying to cut down on summer weekend hop trips.
I'm sure it's also just coincidental that under Frontier's rules, trips booked with less than a 7 day departure are not refundable. Jane books a Friday one-way ticket on Thursday but then on Friday, when she goes to book a return ticket on Saturday, discovers no return itineraries available on her Go Wild Pass. Too bad for Jane that 24 hours has passed AND the flight is in less than 7 days. Either Jane has to find an alternate way to get home or doesn't go and loses what she paid.
This, coupled with the magical auto-pay reinstatement for some of us who had previously cancelled auto-renewal the other day, smells rotten all the way.
There are already grumblings here and there about this pass and a possible future class action lawsuit. Screenshot as much as you can and save them.

2023.06.09 08:37 rachelrileyiswank I have some doubts about flight safety after reading up on MH370 tragedy.

Hello. I'm very late to this but I've been wanting to ask some basic questions about flight safety.
  1. Why can't airlines have a video feed in the cockpit which can by relayed to the airlines to be monitored? Like a wall of CCTVs we see manned by guards for sensitive buildings on the ground.
  2. The black box pings which die after 30 days, can't they have better batteries to last longer? Or at least have some way to give out more accurate/stronger signals. And also have multiple of them. Not the black box itself some small equipment to relay/store location/altitude data in the landing gear or some other part too. And why doesn't the bloody thing float. :/
  3. Flight plans/paths are preprogrammed into the plane right? If the plane deviates from it can't the ground be automatically alerted of this regardless of the transponder status? Or if it's flying too low? Or if the auto-pilot is used for too long or at points it shouldn't be used? Because MH370 did deviate a lot and the flaperon found was in a position which indicated that it just glided/flew and was not ditched. So it flew on auto pilot for so long.
  4. Would the flight attendants/pilots not have their mobile phones with them?
  5. Why isn't there a way the flight attendants can call the ground or flip a switch to indicate trouble to ground and close-by planes?
  6. Can't there be a system for flight mechanics and cabin pressure to be monitored on ground? Like set a range and if the flight parameters go out of that range there'll be some warning on the ground. Especially cabin pressure and low fuel.
  7. Is the co-pilot sabotage ruled out? Because I read theories only on the main pilot.
  8. Many people on this sub subscribe to the main pilot murdesuicide theory. For this plan to succeed wouldn't the co-pilot need to be in on it? Or at least out of the cockpit? In that case can't they contact the ground because the place flew for a long time. The co-pilot goes out. The main pilot locks himself in and mucks up the cabin pressure. In the few minutes before everyone passes out would they have a way to contact anyone on ground through their mobile phones? This point has to be at first little right turn and the eventual hard left.
  9. Considering that out of 239 total, 153 were Chinese, why wasn't there more noise/hullabaloo from them? Or am I misreading this.
  10. Have you seen the National Geographic documentary 'Drain the Ocean'(I've seen it.)? Is it more legitimate because you guys trashed the more recent Netflix one(I've refrained from watching it.)? But itโ€™s from 2018!
Thank you.

2023.06.09 08:30 Abusive_banana Experiences with Scoot Airlines rescheduling?

For context, I'm going overseas with a few friends in a few weeks to Korea and we booked out tickets in December, pretty early all things considered. Another one of the members was the individual who booked them and was emailed in March that our outbound flight was shifted earlier by not just a few hours but by 15 hours from the initial 0715 to a 2215 departure. This is not too out of the norm for airlines to do, especially budget ones, but we also found out that our inbound return flight was shifted from 1700 to 0800 on departure day. Shifted as in we were moved to a totally different flight btw, not that the original flight was delayed in anyway.
From what I've heard, it seems most rescheduled flights that shift the outbound timings to earlielater on the outbound also shift the inbound to earlielater respectively. This was not the case at all for us! They literally took away 24 hours from the trip wtf! My friend who booked the flight was sent this email after working hours on a Friday and was given a 48-hour notice period whether or not to accept. He assumed, due to his line of work, that the airline hotline would not respond to him until Monday and thus by the time he called, they said nothing could be done as past the 48-hour threshold, it was taken as him automatically accepting the offer.
It was an honest mistake on his part, and we don't put much blame on him but I'm naturally furious with this entire arrangement because firstly, it wastes our hard-earned money. Second it cut shorts the trip, our accommodations not being fully utilized (checking in an entire day later) and thirdly having to pay a great deal more for transport on the last day as public transport is not up and running in time for us to take it to reach the airport in time. Forcing us to pay a great deal more in taking a cab or otherwise. I'm unsure of what I'm able to do in this situation even after reading the T&Cs provided by the airline.
I made this post because I wanted to hear what some of the experiences you've had with Scoot rescheduling and what courses of action I'm able to take, if there are any at all at this point in time. I'm kind of resigned to the current situation as it is and I will still enjoy the trip immensely but it just doesn't sit right with me.
