2023.06.05 02:07 Alanm-14 Advice about Galaxy Fold 4

Hey guys, I have the opportunity to buy a new Fold4 for 790 usd (I’m not in the USA). I had a Fold3 previously and returned it mainly because of the software (apps not being fully optimized for the aspect ratio among other things) and the battery life.
I could wait for the Fold5 but that will be more expensive (at least 600 usd more) and based on the recent leaks it doesn’t seem that it’s going to change that much to justify the price difference.
Would you say that battery life and software have improved from fold3 to fold4?
Would it be worth it to wait for the fold5 and pay 600 more? Or buy the Pixel Fold for 1800?
Thanks!

Hello! I've built a cylindric container in freeCAD for 3D printing it and was trying to replicate a surface with dragon scales on the cylinder in blender, a guy that made one similar said he made it eraseing the exterior surface, build geometry nodes in a mesh and then unified the scales mesh with the cylinder. Could anyone help mke with this? I managed to build a geometry node that puts scales in a mesh but cant orient them the right way.
What i did was a geopmetry node that gets the scale i built into a pattern, i separeted the face i'd like to be textured with said scales but get stuck in last picture.

2023.06.05 01:57 Kimbxrlyn What is the best gaming laptop under $1000 to play the Sims 4 with all its expansion packs and some custom content?

Hello! I am looking to buy a gaming laptop to play the Sims 4. I want to be able to play the Sims 4 with all its expansion packs and some Custom Content (CC). I want the laptop to run smoothly, on higher settings and have enough storage. I would love if someone can please help me! Thank you!
Total expenses (in US dollars): - $1000 or less How would I prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? - Performance, battery life, storage Do I have a preferred screen size? - 15” or bigger Am I doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/ gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. - Maybe. In the future, I would like to stream, but it is not a top priority right now. The game I would want to play is Sims 4, and I might also dabble into a few horror games. If I am gaming, do I have certain games I want to play? At what settings and FPS do I want? - I would like to play the Sims 4 with all expansions packs. High settings, if possible! And a good amount of storage for some custom content (cc).

2023.06.05 01:56 bnmcc932 Help with Itinerary - Asia tour - 2.5 weeks

I (29f) am going to be solo traveling for work for a few weeks in July and will be stopping in 7 countries and spending 1-2 days in each place. Looking for some help on my itinerary. Please note that I cannot change the days/times I'll be working each of my work events, so I'm trying to plan around them the best I can where I can see some cool things in each country without getting too fatigued/burnt out. If it's helpful to know, I'll be traveling from east coast, USA. Currently, I've tried to plan one "event"/tourist attraction to see each day, and whatever other free time I have in that country, I figured I'll casually explore the city, find some good food, stay at the hotel pool, etc. But I have a 5 day gap between HCMC and Tokyo and am trying to decide between a few options listed below. Also looking to see if my itinerary seems doable in the time I have. Additional info: I enjoy nature/scenery, beaches, cultural stuff, art/architecture, honestly just wanna see some beautiful places. I'm not into drinking so don't care for nightlife kind of things. Not super concerned with travel & transportation budget as my job is paying for most of it, but would like to keep activities to $100ish USD max a day.

July 19 - arrive in Jakarta
July 20 - walk and explore city during the day
July 20 - 6-10pm work event
July 21 - fly into Singapore, walk around/explore city
July 22 - 11am - 3pm work event/relax rest of day
July 23 - Gardens by the Bay (all day)
July 24 - fly into Kuala Lumpur midday, relax for the evening
July 25 - Batu Caves/waterfall 9-3pm; 6-10pm work event
July 26 - fly into Bangkok (land 8am), check into hotel 11am, take cab at noon to ethical elephant sanctuary in Pattaya for a tour from 2-5pm
July 27 - work event 6-10pm
July 28 - fly into HCMC Vietnam, explore city
July 29 - work event 11am-3pm
\July 30-Aug 2 - SEE OPTIONS BELOW**
Aug 3 - work event in Tokyo 6-10pm
Aug 4 - Fly into Seoul (I've lived in Korea so I will end the itinerary here as I don't need any further insight into this country).

Option 1:
- July 29 fly to Northern Vietnam in the evening, and spend July 30 & 31 seeing one or two of the following places: seeing Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh, or Sa Pa. From my research, these sound more interesting to me than the options I'm finding in HCMC (not really interested in the war museum or Cu Chi tunnels)
-Aug 1 fly into Tokyo, spend Aug 1-3 exploring Tokyo
Option 2:
-July 30 fly into Okinawa, spend Jul. 30 & 31, and head into Tokyo July 31 night. Aug 1-3 explore Tokyo
Option 3:
- July 30 head straight to Tokyo and spend 5 days exploring Tokyo

I love the idea of seeing more of Vietnam because I've heard how amazing it is, but if it's a hassle to get to the places listed from HCMC, then maybe it's worth heading straight to Japan. If I head straight to Japan, is it too much to try and do Okinawa and Tokyo in the time allotted? Is 3 days enough to get a good feel of Tokyo? Would also be open to hearing suggestions of other good beaches within an hour or so from Tokyo if there are any.

Also, does my itinerary as a whole sound doable? I know I have extremely limited time in each country and ideally wouldn't want to move around so much, but can't change the work schedule unfortunately. Thanks in advance!!

2023.06.05 01:52 Mikerino_Pencerino Looking for suggestions for Intel CPUs that would better accommodate a 4080 with my existing build.

Light gaming, looking for long term reliability over short term performance. No performance in mind. Just looking to not bottleneck the 4080 too hard. My budget for the CPU itself is 500-ish USD. Loc USA
These parts are the ones I have already, minus the i7-7700k currently installed in my machine.

I built this thing FOREVER ago(probably 2016/7?), and I'm upgrading to a 4080. The issue is my current processor would be bottlenecking things. If you have any other suggestions I'd be interested to hear them, but as of now I'm really just looking for something that'll let me cram in a 4080, while getting decent mileage out of my existing build. I've looked at some of the newer gen Intel CPUs from last year, such as the i7-12700, but I've heard mixed reports about reliability and temperatures(I'd prefer to keep my existing CPU fan, or at least avoid having to run liquid cooling). If you have no specific advice, any info on personal experiences with newer gen Intel CPUs would be great. I'd prefer it be an Intel CPU, for pricing reasons.

2023.06.05 01:51 JAY_42x Seeking Buying Advice: Is the ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 2 Still Viable and CAD Capable?

Hey Lenovo community! I'm in the market for a new laptop and considering the ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 2. I currently own a Lenovo Yoga with an i5-6300U processor, but it's starting to show its age. I wanted to get some insights from those who have experience with the L13 Yoga Gen 2.

  1. Is the ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 2 still a viable option in 2023? Are there any major drawbacks or issues I should be aware of?

  1. As a CAD user, I'm particularly interested in the laptop's performance in handling CAD software. Can the L13 Yoga Gen 2 handle CAD tasks smoothly and efficiently?

Any advice, recommendations, or personal experiences with the ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 2 would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

2023.06.05 01:50 Ok-Environment8730 Is there a reason to take precision over xps (as a private developer)

Except the fact that nvidia quadro are better at video editing while nvidia rtx at gaming?
Is there some noticeable difference in the screen quality?
For example i was comparing the precision 5570 with the new xps 15 9530:
the xps ends up costings 1000 (swiss francs, about 1100 usd) less than the precision and i get a better gpu (benchmarking says the rtx 4070 is better for general use than the rtx a 2000) and an i9 13th gen instead of the i9 12th gen
all the 2 with a 4k touch display. However the precision display configurator lists some additional things to the xps one, but is the precision screen really better?
my use case would be programming and general use internet browing gaming and so on
I have the budget for both of them, I just don't see why should I spend a lot more for a lower generation cpu and a worse (generally speaking gpu). If you tell me enough convincing reason to prefer the precision for my use case then I will happily read them

I was looking to buy the M15R7 for college (Mechanic Engineering) so I need a lot of computer power to do the school work when I will be doing CAD and rendering. I talked to the sale rep and was informed the M15R7 is not available at this moment. So I looked into the M16. I would like to know how good is the M16 overall? Portability, battery life, build quality, and performance are among the most important things for me. How are your experiences with M16 and would you recommend it for a college kid?

2023.06.05 01:22 theepicg4mer Hard drive likely failed and trying to figure out next steps

About a week ago, my WD My Passport 2 TB external drive (I think the model number is WDBYVG0020BBK-0B) started taking noticeably longer to be read by my desktop and laptop. One folder containing a lot of recordings from my video gaming sessions throws a "data error (cyclic redundancy check)" error when trying to access it, and a majority of files and folders can't be copied over to my C: drive because Windows "can't read from the source file or disk". The drive does not make any weird sounds, and I don't notice any odd behavior when I hold the drive. This is the first time a drive has ever been problematic like this, so my limited knowledge tells me that this drive has probably failed.
To the best of my knowledge, this drive was never introduced to physical damage in any way, like drops and exposure to strong magnets. When it's not plugged in to my laptop to transfer files, I just have it sit on top of my desktop chassis and plugged in.
Other than trying to salvage what I can by copying files from my drive to my device, I have not taken any action in regards to the drive, such as downloading recovery software. WD has already approved my RMA request to have the drive replaced, but I'm creating this post to see what you guys suggest for me to do before sending it off.
I assume it's important for me to mention that I live in the United States. I have considered contacting a data recovery firm, but after seeing how 300DDR charges $500 USD to recover files for this particular drive, I thought the stored data isn't worth the cost. I can only assume WD's list of data recovery partners (https://support-en.wd.com/app/datarecovery) charge much higher than this. I don't have anything sensitive or important stored, so it's not the end of the world if I can't recover everything from the drive.
I hope I included all of the necessary information needed for people to give suggestions. If not, please let me know, and I will follow up with the requested information.
