As you probably know by now, the Miami Heat became the second-ever 8 seed to reach the NBA Finals, and the first to do so in an 82-game season (the Knicks did it in the lockout season in 1999).
While I was reflecting on how incredible their run has been, considering how close they were to missing the playoffs after losing the 7th seed to the Atlanta Hawks, I realized something obvious that never crossed my mind: the Playoffs path to the NBA Finals is slightly easier for an 8 seed than it is for a 7 seed.
If you think about it, assuming there are no other upsets, an 8 seed will have to defeat the #1, #4, and #2 seeds, while a 7 seed will have to face the top three teams in the conference (#2 in the first round, #3 in the second round, and finally #1 in the Conference Finals).
As a stat geek who routinely finds myself wasting hours on end tracking down stats that will never significantly affect my life, I started wondering how many times a 7 seed had actually reached the NBA Finals.
After a quick search, I discovered something quiteuseless interesting: not only has a 7 seed never made it to the NBA Finals, but the only two times they reached the Conference Finals, they were swept.

In most countries with a Supreme Court, there is meant to be a separation of Judiciary and Legislative powers, so you can’t be part of the Court and Cabinet at the same time. The Sordish Constitution has a loophole(I assume by design) such that the Justice Minister can SOMEHOW be an external Court Member, and can actually exercise huge influence there(ie. vote on constitutional reform). So basically, she exploited this to vote in her own law and pressured some judges to do so, to *ensure a separation of power.* Also, she didn’t suggest any amendment to fix this loophole despite advocating for Judicial immunity… maybe she wants to continue influencing the judges in the future. I've had Mazi for 4 months now, and she is definitely a different dog than I brought home. She definitely has some challenges with trust after spending an entire year in the shelter. I was told at adoption that her previous owner had dementia and would chase her around the house yelling at her. Needless to say, Mazi doesn't trust people easily, but once she has decided you are good people she'll be all over you.
One of the challenges we've been working through is barking at the neighbors in the backyard. We are definitely doing better. Most of the time if she can hear but can't see them, she won't voice her opinions about their proximity to her property. If she sees the neighbors, though, it could go either way. And usually, she chooses to stand at the fence and bark. Sometimes I can get her to stop after one or two barks, which is progress, but not consistently. It's a process. She is rarely outside without me, and then I’m usually just running inside for a quick second because I forgot something.
Where I am confused about her behavior and need advice is the random times she barks as soon as I open the back door for her, as if she’s looking for a fight. When there is nothing out there for her to continue yelling at, I swear she deflates a little, and will then run around to the other side of the yard looking for the neighbors more than 1/2 a block away whose mere existence she objects to. (I really don’t know why she has a problem with the inhabitants of that particular house!) I can’t find a pattern to these events. Is she hoping to play with somebody? Is she just feeling feisty? Is she hearing something outside that I can’t? I'll take any and all suggestions on how to curb this behavior!

Eriana is a noble paladin, now level 17. One of her defining characteristics is her hatred of fiends. However, when she was a baby, her dad made a kind of pact with Fraz Urb-l'uu to make her special, in exchange for getting his staff back to him. Her dad failed and is dead, so Fraz does not feel any need to respect the contract any more.
The last time she entered Hollow's Heart (level 11), Fraz Urb-l'uu, the demon lord of Deception, petrified her and then made a Simulacrum version of her. The party managed to take free the original and the Simulacrum version ran after the party trying to escape, and disintegrated when the party went through the portal back home.
Soon after, the party witnessed a perfect clone of Eriana effectively wash onshore while they were in a nearby tavern. They didn't pursue, and have only just now met with this clone, named Zilarra. When Eriana and Zilarra are near, Eriana's skin begins to burn and she begins to grow small horns, clearly some kind of curse or something to turn her into a fiend - the very thing she fights against.
Now, this is likely some kind of play by Fraz Urb-l'uu to cause Eriana pain, but I don't know who Zilarra really is.
I have a few ideas: 1) Is Zilarra an original copy of Eriana - the one who had that promised powespecial trait? If so, has she been manipulated by Fraz Urb-l'uu so that she's evil, or does that heroic goodness shine through?
2) Is Zilarra that Simulacrum that tried to escape, now having forged her own path, but cursed in a way that annihilates the original?
3) Having a copy of Eriana, did Fraz Urb-l'uu transform a loyal minion to play the part of Zilarra, using modify memory and true polymorph to sell the part effectively?
4) Is Zilarra Fraz Urb-l'uu himself, committed to the role of a twin, and wanting to see her transformation firsthand?
5) Is there something else that's I'm not thinking of?

2023.06.07 01:39 Schmitzatron1337 My (30M), GF's(27F) ex BF (31M), who is her best friend, has recently moved into her shared apartment. He does not want to meet me or even see me despite my efforts of trying to meet him. I am feeling some major red flags here and need advice.
I [m30] have been dating my current GF [f27] for 7 months and things have been going really well and we have been getting more and more serious. We communicate wonderfully and I feel comfortable asking any question I need to but I'm not always sure I'm asking the right thing. Her ex BF [m31], who is also her best friend, has recently moved into her shared apartment. He does not want to meet me despite my desire to meet him and I need advice or suggestions on what to do. For context I am white, my GF is international (from China), and her ex BF is also international (from China).
My GF and her ex BF were dating for 2 years (they lived together) before they broke up and there was a 1.5 year gap before meeting and starting to date me. In the interim she had a fling with another man who is no longer in the picture. After breaking up with her BF she remained close friends with him and currently sees him as one of her best friends.
After my GF and her ex BF broke up, she moved into another apartment with 4 tenets and her ex moved to a different state for a job but they remained close friends.
Two months ago, her ex lost his job, and he moved into one of the vacant positions in the apartment. My GF did not tell me he moved in, I had to find out on my own when I visited one time.
My GF does not spend much time at the apartment. She spends nearly every weekend with me at my house and works from home from my house Monday and Friday. She is required to go into her office 3 days a week and stays at her apartment for those 3 days. I trust her to be honest with me whenever I ask questions (she is a terrible liar and knows it) but does not always offer info on her own. We have had discussions about her communication and she has been more open since this. She really seems like she is committed to our relationship and willing to work on herself.
I have been anxiously waiting to meet the ex BF since he is close friends with my GF and she has mentioned him multiple times since we have been dating, discussing aspects of their friendship etc.
Yesterday I found out the reason why we have never met. He does not want to meet or see me at all. Apparently he even got mad at my GF one time that I came over to their apartment and she did not adequately warn him I was coming so he could go hide in his room. I have never met or seen or spoken to him. She told me she asked him why he does not want to meet me and apparently he just didn't give a reason, according to my GF. I find this behavior odd since my GF seems to think they are good friends but I'm not sure a good friend would behave this way. If they are truly just good friends, I would think there should be no problem with us meeting.
I think a big part of her continued friendship with him is their shared cultural background and shared experience coming to the USA. I really don't want to get in the way of that aspect of their relationship or make her feel like she should abandon her friend.
My GF feels stuck in the middle because she wants me to be happy and wants me to meet him, but also wants to respect her friends decision to never meet me and she does not want to push him to meet me. The fact that he is her ex BF makes everything more confusing.
Does anyone have any similar experiences or advice on how I should be feeling about this? I didn't really have a problem with him moving into their apartment since they are just friends and she spends so much time with me, but his lack of desire to meet me is really raising some red flags. Any help would be appreciated. I am feeling very insecure about the whole situation.
