So I'm married, and have a toddler, love my wife and baby so damn much though! But I'm struggling with my mental health and have been for the past few months...
Covid really beat me down.. I was a chef and had to stop because of the pandemic, it started costing me money to go to work, and I never thought about the after effects... I resigned and started working with my wife on her business as a photo retoucher... and things were actually going really well, we had a lot of work and we worked from home... so things weren't bad.. but it definitely started working on my self esteem and insecurities due to not being in my own career, and the fact that I didn't know which way I wanted to go for myself didn't help...
We got pregnant during the really good phase of us working together and being able to focus on eachother a lot, it was amazing!
Fast forward to my daughter being born, things got really and hectic very quickly... I needed a stable income and not working for ourselves kind of fluctuating income, so I found work as a video editor for one of the most unsavory characters you could meet, the pay was decent though... and I decided to study occupational health and safety part time.. so I was managing on a few hours of sleep a day, helping with baby and working from home, and still giving my wife time to work as well... things are difficult as a parent, especially when you don't know what your doing, though we had an amazing support structure!
So a few months go by, and my boss tells me the day after I'm supposed to get paid, that I'm not getting paid because he doesn't have the money to... this happened on my wife's birthday when I had planned out a half surprise birthday for her... we had to cancel because of the lack of income... que me struggling and cold calling people, linked in messages and a whole bunch of job applications, even trying to get back into the kitchens.. I finally find a person willing to take me on, and in Occupational health and safety while I finish my course! Things were going great again! Worked a probationary 8 weeks on a very low pay, and we then settled on a contract that paid decently... unfortunately, I ran into the same problem... I signed on full time in December, and I didn't get paid... he said money would reflect better in January.. I still didn't get paid... then February rolled around and it was the same story, but I was the only one not seeing a cent... so here I go cold calling again, for every place in the country more or less... 150 calls later and countless job applications, I find work in a town on the other side of the country... still in the field I want to be in, working with food... but money is incredibly tight now and we took out a loan to make ends meet(luckily the loan was with my inlaws who helped us tremendously!)
So I came down for an interview, I liked them, they liked me.. and we planned a move.. the plan was to stay with my parents in the neighboring town and I'd do the commute every day(about a 40 minute drive)... the time came, we all came down, and tried getting settled... but living with my family was a bit too cramped for such close quarters... we couldn't make it work.. my daughter(at 16 months) was not herself.. very unhappy and underestimated, and my wife and I had been getting into fights every day because of her becoming overstimulated, still looking after baby herself because my parents didn't follow through on promises to help with everything to do with baby so my wife could work.. and then still trying to get work done herself... so they flew back to our home on the other side of the country and stayed with her mom while I worked and looked for a place to stay...
My wife kept looking for a home for us in the new town, she'd contact the agents and I'd come check thr place out during the working day, she eventually found one that was a gold mine! We got thr place, despite having a toddler(we had been rejected by a couple because the owners didn't want the noise disturbances from babies...) and planned the next move!
I was supposed to get the house sorted out.. but I only managed to get it done last minute before flying back up to drive the car down again, and unload the trailer, pick my wife and baby up from the airport and move in... it was a nightmare.. things where everywhere and we are now trying to sort the house out, with an 18 month old baby running a mock!
We got into massive fights from this point.. I had been doing my own thing, I wasn't as focused on the things I should have been... I wasn't hearing my wife's pleas for help and support and it took a big toll on us.. we seperated(but still together because we do love eachother and want to make it work) but I kept fucking up... I'd make the promises of I'm going to do better and follow through with everything, but I keep slipping up... I know the situation... I'm trying to make a difference... but I keep slipping up with things, even when I think I'm doing well, my priorities get shifted... I'm not running 2 departments at work and am part of a 3rd... I'm struggling to keep on track of all the things I need to do or want to get done... I'm depressed and lonely and don't have people to talk to that would give me good advice or not just take my side..
There's a whole lot more to this story too, but essentially, I'm just struggling to keep to doing the things I need to for myself, and it's affecting my marriage and home life because I'm not doing well... I guess this is more of a vent, but it feels good to let it out here for people to read...

Hi guys i just wanna ask you guys what’s a good discrete birth control option for me?
I started taking the minipill but my family found out (because the side effects were too hard to hide re: nausea and I couldn’t eat) and they’re super conservative and made me stop taking it. Also, side note: at least one of my family members knew that i am….well…active and have consistently stuck to slutshaming me.
I found out about the depo and got the shot after a few months because I figured it was actually discrete and my family didn’t have to know about it. However i did find out why the depo itself was used eventually and became terrified because i really do want to have children someday.
I do tend to have heavy periods with bad cramps when i am not on any birth control. With the minipill, my periods were still the same but shorter (thankfully). I never got around to taking it long enough for my period to settle.
I took the depo and my periods have (mercifully) been light but i still do have bad cramps.
I want a discrete option like the depo but with….less of the risk for low bone density and eventual sterilisation. I was looking into the implanon but unfortunately it costs about $250 (for me because where i live i am an international student and i dont have medicare). So i was wondering, what is a more discrete option for BC that my family won’t know about? Especially one that does not cause issues like the depo.

Early 2021 i was interested in mobile application development.
So i started learning java, after 2 months i came across these cross platform that makes development easier for both IOS & android.
So i hoped into flutter development and till now i have been doing and learning flutter.
But now I feel like i am loosing the drive to work with flutter, maybe because the framework is easy to to learn so developers ratio and market need ratio is 40:1 something ( more dev, less demand )
At this point i feel stuck, and dont know what todo. I always believed that one should master only 1 skill from all he got, and have all other skills at usage level.
I always thought flutter would be the skill that i would master but it seems i am left disappointed.
Is there any skills you think would bring my drive back, any skills that can help me grow, cover the needs of the market also has a little to no competition.

I've told my friends that one advantage of restaurants seemingly obliged to report the calories of each item on the menu, is that you can divide the calories by the cost so you get most calories for your money.
There are some items that are pretty deceptive, like salads etc. which are charged at the same price as something more filling.
Anyone else adopt this strategy? It was new to my friends.

Mind-Flay.. I'd want something that could be drawn to a pheromone released when a neuron is triggered. Not any neuron though, only the neuron that connects feelings of satisfaction to moments of causing torment. Individuals deep down know who they are, but after layer of layer of entropy from generational influence and attitude of life, a mind can make a cover for itself. But deep down, we know who we are.
A very particular pheromone, and has to have close proximity to be drawn to. Maybe a few inches before being dissipated to atmosphere.
But how the virus would propagate itself would be an interesting method. When this connection between neurons is conjoined, the pheromone secreted; the virus would feed from that chemical agitation. The more often the individual in question connects joy to torment, the more often the virus propagates.
And as viruses, do, they evolve rapidly. Now when the pheromone is released; it's abundant. The mind was trying to fill in that void, for the connection to complete. So the brain makes more, it makes the initial stimulation more powerful, and in turn more pheromone is released. The virus will spread from person to person, unless they don't have that connection to be fed from.
Tempering, the mind is a process that is easy for some but more often.. not so simple. We as a society have decided that our culture involves entertainment and advertisements with big booms and fires, vehicles that go fast and alcohols that keep flowing. We, as a society, well particular niches of our society, have decided that they are better, whichever reason they justify. Get a little bit of joy from it, makes them feel good. The less often that you are prone to feel the negativities of connotations; the better protected one would be.
What if a virus, a very, very, tiny, little thing, did a very, very, tiny, little interruption to a brain connection. A very, very, tiny, little thing that we couldn't think could happen? What if we had to quarantine because people had bad dispositions. No internet, no entertainment, learn to do a thing. Rewrite your mind, or you're in quarantine. One would be a safety risk.

Hitting the road today. I’ve been away from home since my birthday. Making a stop up North to visit my lovely friend and her new man before I head home on Sunday. I love the bus ride from Bellingham to Seattle; I equally love the Ride from Seattle to Olympia. I like to listen to music and think about nothing. It makes me feel the way that I feel in airports…. I exist, but barely. No one knows me. No one know about my messes or my past. For a few hours I don’t feel quite so heavy. Anyway, I’m packed up and I’m dressed. Makeup is on and my hair is still wet. It’s going to be wet for awhile. I can hear the babies squeaking like little dinosaurs in the other room. #1 and I snuggled, watched some weird dinosaur movie on Netflix and ate popcorn while bestie did homework last night. #1 and I were playing a game where we had to whisper because the dinosaurs were going to eat us. I loved it. It made my mommy heart not hurt so bad.
Bestie gave me a hug after she finished her homework “…thank you for being my best friend; tonight I realized I really, really have a best friend and it made me so happy”. Hurt girls never feel truly safe no matter how intensely they love.
Earlier in the week other bestie had a panic attack when she thought I might not make the trek up north. I haven’t been feeling well and my shoulder pain is a 10. I considered not going but when I heard the panic in her voice I knew that she needed me to meet this guy. I bought the tickets and told her I’d be there on Saturday night. She cried with relief when I told her and it reminded me that hurt girls don’t trust other people’s word.
I think this is probably why I have such ferocious bonds with these women. Sometimes I think they like me a little too much. I’m not quite sure what they like about me but I won’t question it too loudly lest they realize I’m not so great. I’m grateful for their unconditional love. Bestie held me until 2am while I cried last night, and then moments later we talked about how Jesus could be a schizophrenic alien and how maybe schizophrenics are the divine ones. We laughed until we cried some more; at 3am I wiped away my tears and I fell asleep with a heart that didn’t hurt quite as deeply as it did before. Sometimes I think that if this is the lasting love that was set apart for me…. Then I am truly lucky. I never imagined I’d have such precious women in my life.
In other news, my mama heart is broken. My own #1 is struggling deeply. He reminds me of me at that age and I so wish I could dig him out. He cried “mama mama mama” over and over again yesterday. It took all of my self control to not buy a ticket back to Columbus. What mother let’s her son hurt like this? Deep in my core I know he has to go through it. It occurred to me for the first time that my child might die before me and I am truly scared for his life. He called my evil ex for help. I’m grateful that my ex is kind to my son. I’m grateful that he is going to help him even though it scares me. Potato says that when my ex asks about me, he tells him he never talks to me. It reinforces the narrative that I’m a piece of shit and that’s okay because I am. I bet helping my lost boy in my absence really gives that narcissist a gigantic boner. But you know what, if my boy gets help then I don’t care what Narcissist thinks. And that’s how it is with my kids.
Chef guy told Bestie to tell me “goodbye. I’m in love with you🤪😜😝”. Which was pretty funny. He tried really hard to get my attention but I was pretty cold. (Bitter. Vindictive. Drunk. Ice Queen. Two cunt.) (I kinda like the ice Queen one though…. Makes me feel less fragile). I’m not interested in being vulnerable again. I concede. When I found out chef guy had a crush on me I was flattered, but when I look at him I think “how are you going to hurt me?”. I haven’t been dating or talking to anyone but different dudes have approached me at different times. Bellingham guy got the picture and I added his number to the graveyard. English Bus guy asked me out so many times I had to take a picture of his phone number so he would believe me when I told him I would call him. I didn’t. And I won’t. Bitter. I can’t see anyone without wondering what it feels like to have my heart broken by them. It makes my stomach churn. I’ll do it alone, thanks.
My boss has been incredibly tender and kind. I had record sales (for myself) last month and got a kudo email for some sales pitches he was cc’d in. He checks on me and asks me if I’m okay; “remember your worth”. It’s nice to be thought of and while I don’t necessarily need to be handled with satin gloves, I like that he does. Makes me feel like I’m not trash. Even though I am. (Two cunts)
When I get home, I have a lot of plans for myself and my alone time. Hopefully the ghosts are gone now. I need a bigger sketchbook, new poscas and better colored pencils. I have a lot of ideas but I’m scared that I won’t commit. I haven’t bought food in a month and I know the apartment is trashed. If sports guy from the bar texts, I’m gonna ignore him. Work Bestie and I start our routine on Monday. It will be nice to have a routine commitment. Still scouring the net for a puppie pie. I want a King Charles cavalier- I’m going to name it “sterling”, after that town in Alaska. I tried to adopt Sherman but when he attacked my feet and made me bleed I decided against it. Poor Sherman. He had been beaten his whole life. I kinda get it. I don’t want anyone fucking with me anymore either. I need to start looking for costumes for comic con. Since we will be there for the whole weekend, I can wear the vest costume on Friday and the ball gown on Saturday. Drink and draw after 8pm with that one comic book artist with Dark Horse. Something to look forward to.
Anyway, it’s time to hit the road. More later I suppose.

Long vent because I find myself still upset over it.
One of my best friends (who we've also suspected might be undiagnosed autistic as well) and I got into an argument, as she'd come over to watch a movie. During the movie, she'd made a comment complaining about the main character lying for no reason when he was trying to lighten the mood and make a joke (for context, the movie was Deadpool), and I got upset that she seemed annoyed by this.
When the movie ended, she admitted to me that she thinks I don't respect her opinions because I always seem to react badly when she expresses herself. I told her I do respect her opinions, but I react badly because it feels like she doesn't seem to nor is willing to understand different situations or different contexts for other things. I told her I often feel offended by her because of the way she tells me things and I take her words to face-value, like when I cooked for her and she told me the rice I made was bland. It took us several months to realize that she isn't used to the Oriental style of rice that I know, but rather Spanish rice or the African dishes she grew up eating.
Later on, we talked more again, although a good part of the conversation was a circle as I asked her if she could talk to me more so that I understand her better while keeping our differences in mind (culture, childhood, social/financial status mainly), and she told me she was aware of our differences already and wanted me to be more upfront with my feelings. Ultimately, the conversation began to crumble as I agreed to try to be more open, however she declined working on her wording. She said she was already self-conscious of policing her thoughts, so she didn't want to police her words either.
At the time I was hurt, though less so for the reason and more so by the action. My understanding of relationships (of any kind) is that there will be compromises - not all the time of course, but arguments are inevitable, and sometimes a compromise is important to continue the relationship. You do so because you care for each other, and want to be in each others life despite the arguments or any differences you may have. I was hurt because it felt like she was denying our friendship by denying the compromise, so when she told me she 'didn't have to take criticisms she didn't like' and said I didn't have to take any either, I decided to tell her that I'm no longer comfortable with her, and that I wanted to back away from our friendship. She seemed confused by this, but accepted it.
We're still apart of the same overall friend group, so we've seen each other a bit since then, but we no longer talk as often nor do I invite her over for things anymore. It's sad to lose that close connection, but I find myself more bitter over it than anything, now that I'm confronting multiple occasions that I disliked something/got upset over but brushed aside because I blamed myself for feeling that way or because I just didn't want to argue. She's in no way a bad friend or a bad person, and I admit that I was probably the more rude one in our friendship due to the miscommunication. But I can't find it within me to reconnect with her; I was trying too hard to be friends with someone I ultimately wouldn't work with, and that's on me. Now I have to learn how to deal with it.
TLDR: I lost a friend after an extremely long argument, some things of which our autism came into play. I'm upset, but ultimately it was for the best.

It'd been literally half a year since I'd seen my med student buddies and I had to do the rounds. This question came up a lot.
"So yeah I'm actually good!" I'd always start, smiling and gesturing wildly so as not to worry anyone. "In fact, my cancer's at a point now where it can't come back!" And to this, I'd get an emphatic “Congrats, dude!”, a shout of “Yipee,” a toast and the occasional pat on the back.
"But yeah otherwise, treatment for the graft versus host disease continues. And I mean though the skin is slowly getting better, the major thing left is the cramping, which can suck." The faces become more sallow as I say this. "But hey, they're getting better too!" I lied, and again they'd celebrate, albeit slightly less enthusiastically.
What could I tell them? How could I explain to them the truth of how it affects every single aspect of my life? Even in this crowd of young, caring people, there was no easy way of really telling them what life after cancer really meant.
I guess you could say that lambasting about the constant frustration and the looming anxiety of something you couldn't control for half an hour would break the social convention of small talk. But in truth, there really isn't an easy way to explain how living with a chronic condition really impacts your life and mind.
Unlike what most friends think-- that frustration, that anxiety, the physical effects of a chronic illness-- that's only half of the story. Chronic diseases, mental illnesses, even things like stress affect our very mindset, they play a factor in every tiny decision we make and it was only after reading this amazing article that I feel I'm properly able to explain that now.

While binging Superman and Lois and Superman TAS at the same time I'm wondering why cartoons seem to show more character development in less time than a live action show. They both have filler episodes and one off characters. Is it just about the writing? The studio?

I currently have a Mars 3 Ultra that's been great to learn on as my first printer and has produced a bunch of miniatures with good results. That said, I'm looking to print larger items like tanks and whatnot.
I've scoured the Internet and it's of course Elegoo Saturn 2, Saturn 8k, Phrozen Mighty 8k, and Anycubic M3 Premium in the 8k 10" range.
For the M3 and Mighty, I would take advantage of the network transfer features as I don't like a possibly contaminated USB traveling around, but it's not completely a no-go if the printer doesn't have that feature and is more reliable.
-M3 premium: scared of reported reliability and customer support issues, but still see this one recommended. Price: $480
-Mighty 8k: is the build quality really $100-$200 better than the rest? Price: $552
-Saturn 2: features over the Saturn 8k really aren't a seller for me and worried about the Z arm flex issues. Price: $400

The price range isn't that great, but it's always good to spend less when you can. I know that print quality is pretty close on all of these so that is a non-factor as well. I've watched the FauxHammer comparison video, but I'd like some real world reports too.

I've spent the last few weeks working on an algorithm that summarizes the tech news from the last 24 hours, gathering the data from a bit more than 40 media today (Techcrunch, TheVerge, Arstechnica...).
Basically, it extracts everyday the articles that were posted on the most "qualitative" media, which is based on a credibility/trustworthiness score I give to every medium.
Then I use a ML algorithm to have a picture of which topics were the most tackled.
From this point, I select manually the most interesting clusters (a cluster = a topic, like the Google Bard announcement) and to make it simple use GPT-4 to summarize every cluster into the most important insights to remember.
I'm using this algorithm to make a daily newsletter and a twitter account that summarize the most important tech news from the last 24 hours, but I'm planning to use it for other topics like finance, environment, crypto...
What is cool is that I also get to learn a lot more about the tech world in way less time that I used to when I was constantly on Twitter and/or reading different media!
