| My little brother (29) has about $90 of credit at a used book store that can only be used on kid/young teen books. 2023.06.05 01:27 clegay15 Tales of Middle Earth Flavor Critique: Press the Enemy
Preface: I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan; I re-read the books typically once a year. I also adore the movies, and find all of Tolkien's legendarium absolutely awesome. Truly one of my favorite hobbies so I'd like to offer some critiques and excitement of flavor gems from Tales of Middle Earth. I won't do every card, but I'll comment on some individual cards and how WOTC did on it. I will comment on the cards abilities but only insofar as it impacts the flavor; i.e. what the card is doing not power level, etc.
To be clear: I understand there are sacrifices you need to make for the greater game, and sometimes those come first. For these articles: I am looking at each card in a vacuum, so if I seem harsh it's because I am using a single lens.
Next up:
Press the Enemy!
https://preview.redd.it/not9gqnj434b1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&s=692e4c8ed12c50795b7606539ac909c7885fcaab Flavor Preface So in the movies this scene is cut (except a different version in the extended edition), but in the books after Gandalf and Pippin find the Palantir of Orthanc (which I will be reviewing once the English version of the card is spoiled) Aragorn seizes the stone. Aragorn shows Sauron Anduril and reveals himself. This causes Sauron to hastily attack the armies of the west. They battle at Morannan where Sauron assumes that Aragorn, now revealed, has seized the Ring and is marching to Mordor to depose him. This turns out to be a mistake as emptying Mordor gives Frodo and Sam enough time to cross the plain of Gorgoroth to Mount Doom.
Color In what is becoming a bit of a broken record: how do you translate this into a card? I think blue is an apt choice because the secret to this scene is Aragorn is tricking Sauron, and trickery is all Blue.
Abilities That being said: I think the proper ability would be to force an opponent's creature to attack. That's basically what Aragorn does in the books.
I do like that they made this critical moment a card, but I don't think it does what the moment is really all about.

2023.06.05 01:27 psshdjndofnsjdkan Post-Boys Planet: Looking back at the archetypes
I joined this subreddit a few days before the show started, and there was a
post that I found really interesting where
u/TeeeeCeeee looked back at the previous Produce seasons + GP999 + Idol School and analyzed some of the most common archetypes found in Mnet survival shows, and I thought that it'll be interesting to go back to that post and try and see which Boys Planet contestants best fit the archetypes they predicted would appear.
(Note: I did not watch any of the Produce seasons nor GP999 nor Idol School so I have no idea what OP is talking about when they list their examples for each archetype but I trust that they’re right)
The Hero/Heroine: This is the protagonist of the show. In some seasons, Mnet's protagonist is a little less easy to identify, but I'll focus here on the most blatant examples. The hero/heroine is youthful and charming but there's some growing they still need to do. This weakness is typically presented in the first couple episodes, and their overcoming this weakness is usually one of the most major storylines in the season. Mnet's heroes and heroines always debut, and they get so much screen time it's difficult for them not to. They're often one of the first contestants we see, but usually not the actual first.
OP listed Somi (S1), Chaeyoung (IS), Sakura (48), Yohan (X), and Dayeon + Chaehyun (GP999) as examples.
It's a little early to know for sure who Mnet's hero will be (ep.1 will certainly make it clear) but there's a pretty good chance it will end up being Sung Hanbin, or any of the shiny boys.
I’d say that they were pretty spot on with
Sung Hanbin in terms of the fact that he was the protagonist of the show from the moment that he walked into the Star Level test stage. However, I’m not sure if the show really focused on his weaknesses. We did see him struggle during Tomboy and Say My Name, but those weaknesses weren’t present in the beginning and didn’t really have a storyline during the entire show.
The nation's leader: The trainee who takes charge in the leader role time and again and shows compassion for their teammates, but also leads them to greatness. Someone who makes level-headed calls and also helps out the weak trainees. This is a niche that several trainees will fill early in the season, but only one of them typically makes it to the finale and becomes the nation's leader. It's also an archetype that the contestants seem to know well and gun for frequently, but it's success rates aren't actually fantastic.
OP listed Nayoung (S1), Kim Jonghyeon (S2), and Bora (GP999) as examples.
The nation's leader is usually one of the older trainees, and Ichika and Hui are already looking to be likely candidates. Keep an eye on trainees in the eye contact battle that seem to be very doting on their partner and helpful, especially those helping them translate. Hui's speaking Japanese for the much less confident Hyo is a classic nation's leader move.
I agree with
Hui as he was the leader for every single mission in the show and people liked his leadership skills.
Ichika didn’t get a lot of screentime and was eliminated pretty early nor was he ever a leader so he’s disqualified.
Dongyeol was also a contestant who got the leader role in every single mission he was in, but he also didn’t get a lot of screentime and not a lot of people talked about him so he doesn’t really count. I’d argue that
Park Hanbin was also a nation’s leader as many people liked his military-style training and he ranked first in leadership in that one subreddit talent survey. On top of that, his K-Group Hot Sauce team was the only team whose members all survived the first elimination. People also liked
Zhang Hao and
Jiwoong as leaders and they both made it into the final lineup, but neither of them actually ended up becoming the leader of the group.
The faildol: Often going hand in hand with the leader archetype is the trainee who seems to be way out of their league, looking lost and generally failing at every mission they try to do, but not failing too hard. Being endearing is the primary factor that makes the faildol such a successful archetype, and it's one of Mnet's absolute favorites … Somebody who isn't talented (yet) but they're down to earth and likeable.
OP listed Sohye (S1) and Hyewon (48) as examples.
Early candidate is Lee Daeul, who fans are already noticing can't dance, but at least he's cute! In kpop, for many, that's what really matters.
Daeul fits OP’s definition of a “faildol” pretty well; he didn’t have a lot of training but he was pretty endearing, and Seunghwan (who you can also argue as someone who fits the leader archetype) took good care of him when they were both 2-stars. Unfortunately, he was not one of Mnet’s favorites as he got a really bad evil edit in episode 4 that caused his rank to plummet down to 46th after the 1st elimination ended and the votes resetted. Another example might be
Takuto, who also lacked training but was incredibly cute and charming. Mnet constantly edited him with cute sound effects, but they also focused on him struggling in the missions a lot as well.
The wonder kid: Opposed to the last few archetypes, the wonder kid never debuts, but an Mnet show isn't complete without them. The trainee who's young, probably too young to be on the show, but wow, they sure can dance. You're kidding, they can sing too? This kid's going places … Surely these kids are too talented to overlook, until their age holds them back, but they often work wonders for this next archetype.
OP listed Woojin (S2) and Haeun (48) as examples.
Likely candidates are any of the 07/08 kids, we'll have to see which one gets that golden ep.1/ep.2 edit.
I’m not sure if there were really any contestants in Boys Planet who fit this archetype. The closest example would be
Yujin, who dances well especially for someone who was born in 07 and has only been dancing for a year, but that’s pretty much it (edit: also Yujin debuted so actually I’m not sure if he really fits OP’s definition).
The Ideal Hyung/Unnie: They're effortlessly cool and pretty, down to earth in a believable way, and are always looking out for the little guy, whether that be the faildol or the wonder kid. They're probably a little doting too, but it's not quite motherly/fatherly. A little tomboyish or distinctly masculine. The sort of person you'd want to have your back, the perfect older sibling … This archetype has been watered down and more of a micro-archetype in recent seasons, but I think it's pretty likely to make a resurgence this time around, especially with the contesants skewing older.
OP listed Sejeong (S1) and Daniel (S2) as examples.
I think a good example for this archetype is
Jiwoong. He’s definitely masculine and has a “cool” vibe, but he’s also down to earth and has a goofy side to him. He also has almost a fatherly relationship with
Yujin, who I listed as a potential example for the Wonder Kid.
The One True Main Vocal: Is pretty self explanatory. It's the trainee who can hit high notes like no other. Every kpop group needs a main vocalist and this trainee is essential for the debut team. Typically this means they barely scrape by to the final elimination and get panic-voted into the lineup. It's also key for there to be several contestants of this archetype, so Mnet can pit them against each other for drama. This archetype can even pretty consistently make the debut team even after getting some bad edits.
OP listed Yeonjung (S1), Jaehwan (S2), Yuri, Goeun, Haeyoon, and Chowon (S3) as examples.
Kim Taerae seems like he'll be in the running, but there will definitely be many more alongside him.
I’m honestly pretty impressed with how OP managed to predict
Taerae, as not only was he one of the contestants who were highlighted as a main vocal, but he also made it into the final lineup. On top of that, they also managed to predict that he would get panic-voted into the lineup since that is pretty much what happened after the final interim rankings dropped. Other candidates for The One True Main Vocal were
Hui, Jay, and
Seungeon (OP also predicted the “pit them against each other for drama” correctly, especially with Hui and Jay during LMR), but ultimately it was Taerae who rose on top.
The Born Dancer: Also self explanatory, these are the trainees that are the best dancers on the planet and Mnet is going to make sure you know it, even if you don't know anything about dance whatsoever. They've probably been dancing since they were a baby, and they probably also learn choreography in 30 seconds … Unlike when it comes to main vocals, there will probably only be one main dancer push from mnet, despite many potential candidates.
OP listed Chungha (S1) and Chaeyeon (48) as examples.
There were a fair amount of main dancer candidates during this show (
Sung Hanbin, Park Hanbin, Zihao, etc.) but honestly I feel like this show didn’t really focus that much on who can dance well? I feel like whenever the show did focus on dance it was more focused on who dances poorly and is “hindering” the rest of the team, but idk I could be wrong. Anyway, I think
Park Hanbin fits this archetype the best. Idk if he’s been dancing since he was a baby, but Mnet put a lot of focus on him being a very fast learner (cue to him learning both the En Garde and Switch choreos) and a very good dance teacher.
The Underdog: There's something inherently underwhelming about his trainee, but when they come on stage they come alive. Maybe they're meek and shy, maybe their visuals aren't up to snuff, but that just makes them more relatable. Maybe they just aren't ranking as high as the objectively should, and that just makes you root for them harder.
OP listed Yoojung (S1), Hyeongjun (X), and Youngeun (GP999) as examples.
I… honestly don’t know who to put for this archetype. Maybe
Jay? Since he had quite the hate train going but that also made his supporters root for him even more. He did rank pretty high throughout the show though, so I’m not sure if he was really an “underdog.”
The Vitamin: Endlessly energetic, naturally funny, and always optimistic. Mnet loves to have a tense scene of team conflict then immediately cut to a vitamin doing something endearing for the cameras. The vitamin is the variety star to be … While the success-rate for vitamins has definitely gone down over time, their frequency has not wavered, and there will surely be several this season as well.
OP listed Yena (48) and Seungyoun (X) as examples.
This is definitely
Seowon. That scene during the reevaluations when everyone was stressed and anxious meanwhile here comes Seowon happily doing his audition and going “this is so fun :D” afterwards… yeah this archetype belongs to him.
Woongki also fits this archetype as well; he’s funny and
very energetic and is Seowon’s partner in crime. Both of them were the variety stars in the show (unfortunately they also didn’t make it into the final lineup).
The Flower Boy: A little effeminate, probably very comfortable doing aegyo. They're usually a bit of a toned down vitamin, and they're often a big victim of mnet forcing shipping. Smiley and upbeat and will probably be put into a fluffy sweater at some point.
OP listed Jihoon + Daehwi (S2) and Dongpyo + Hyeongjun (X) as examples.
Woonggi and Sungmin were World Klass' flower boys so there's a decent chance they'll take up the mantle again. From what I've seen, Seo Won or Jung Hojin might also fit this archetype well.
Alright I know I literally just listed
Seowon and
Woongki as examples for the Vitamin archetype but they also
kind of fit the Flower Boy archetype as well. I don’t think they were “toned down vitamins,” but they’re pretty feminine and comfortable with doing aegyo (I wouldn’t say they were victims of Mnet’s forced shipping though; I feel like I didn’t see Woongki shipped with a lot of people and Seowon was mainly shipped with Jiwoong but like,, so were a lot of other contestants lol). I think OP
might be right with
Hojin (based on that dorm scene where Woongki, Seowon, and Hojin danced to Hype Boy), but he also didn’t get a lot of screentime so it’s a bit hard to tell. Same thing with
Sungmin. The Big 3 Dropout: A trainee once from a prestigious company but who got overlooked for debut and is now on the rocks, desperate for debut. Mnet makes sure you know they're a bit different from the rest, there's something inherently better about them. They must be talented to have been in such a big agency, but they're also a built in underdog for having failed already … Being from a Big 3 agency isn't a guarantee you'll get this archetype either, you just have to get lucky and hope Mnet picks you to be the lucky one, there's always many who get overlooked.
OP listed Herin + Seoyeon + Jiwon (IS), Chaeyeon (48), and Chaehyun + Mashiro (GP999) as examples.
The Loud contestants have a good chance of getting this archetype for this season.
To be honest, I don’t think this show really focused on which companies/survival shows the contestants have trained/participated in before. There’s no/barely any mention of some of the contestants being in Loud or being former Cube trainees, so I don’t think this archetype is really present in the show.
The Desperate Idol: Maybe their group is struggling, maybe it's already gone. Regardless, this is a trainee who's already made debut but has struggled to find success for one reason or another. Every season has a ton of contestants who have already debuted in one way or another but you've got to be from a decently high profile group to score this archetype. What's important that you know about this contestant is that it might just be their last chance. Don't you feel sorry for them? Aren't they too good to let slip through the cracks? The likelihood of a very nugu group member getting this edit is very unlikely.
OP listed Chaeyeon (S1), NU’EST (S2), Kaeun (48), Wooseok (X), and Yujin (GP999) as examples.
Hui is a given for this edit, but it's also possible the guys from Up10tion might get it too. Woonggi and Sungmin are unlikely to get this edit due to the circumstances of their leaving the group, and Seunghwan is also unlikely due to be the winner of an MBC survival show. Can't be promoing the rival networks. The other contestants from other groups are likely all much too nugu for mnet to name drop them.
OP was right about
Hui getting this edit as well as
Woongki and
Seunghwan not getting this edit.
Sungmin did briefly mention “leaving” TO1 and saying that this is his last chance during the Rush Hour conflict though.
Up10tion and
NINE.i were also very briefly mentioned during Hui’s segment but that was kinda it, so yeah it was mainly Hui who got this edit.
This was pretty fun to write lol. Feel free to agree/disagree with any of these or chime in with your own opinions!

2023.06.05 01:25 Shialedoof [Online][5E][BST][18+][LGBTQ+ Friendly] Seeking 4-5 adventurers to play through Waterdeep Dragon Heist and beyond [ Wednesday 7pm to 10-11pm BST]
Edit: reposted as I made some mistakes in the write up.
Famed explorer Volothamp Geddarm needs you to complete a simple quest. Thus begins a mad romp through the wards of Waterdeep as you uncover a villainous plot involving some of the city’s most influential figures.A grand urban caper awaits you. Pit your skill and bravado against villains the likes of which you’ve never faced before, and let the dragon hunt begin! Hi everyone!
i'm looking to get together 4 or 5 players to play through Waterdeep Dragon Heist and when we complete the module to branch out into a full game.
Game overview Known as the "City of splendours",The city of Waterdeep stands out on the Sword Coast as a example of artistic, economic and scholarly achievement. Governed by a secretive council known asthe masked lords headed up by the current open lord Laeral Silverhand. Home to various guilds and factions, the city is always abuzz with activity from the various trade guilds to the shadowy criminals organisations such as the mysterious Xanathar guild to the various factions of the Zhentarim or the inner Politics of Waterdeeps many noble families.
The module takes players from level 1 to 5 as the party will interact and find themselves embroiled in the actions of various factions as they find themselves chasing after a rumoured treasured housedwithin Waterdeep.Though we will be playing through the Module, i am hoping to make this a longer running campaign for the group to go on other adventures alongside the module and after the end of the module to hopefully develop this into a long running game.
Character creation For character creation. all official contentfor Dnd 5e. I do also allow some third-party content such as the Taldori Reborn subclasses, gunslinger and blood hunter etc and am open to Homebrew and other third-party content though i would want to look at it first.
Additional content For the game i would like to try using some additionalrules from third party books to add to the game. The main addition will be the injury systemfrom Grim hollow. it overhauls the lingering injuries system to add the smaller scale injuries such as the chance to break an ankle after going down in combatfor a brief example. The system will be fully explained after the group is together and if it not something the group vibes, they it will not be used.
I also own some books that expand up diseases that players can catch alongside various add-ons such as taverns and tankards which add magical brews which players can buy or craft for fun effectsI also use a revamped wild magic table to make wild magic a bit more interesting by having 100 different effects that can occur.
Session schedule and platform The game will take place weekly on
Wednesday 7pm to 10-11pm BST and will range between 3-4 hours. unfortunately this day cannot change as this is the only free time i have within my weekalongside my work.
The game will be played on Roll 20 for the use of maps and character sheets though extensions such as beyond 20 can be used and voice will be done through discord.
About me I tend to go by Drake/Owen and am 23 years old and go by he/him pronouns. I have been playing ttrpgs for around 6 years and have played a bunch of different systems such as monster of the week, pathfinder and of course 5e. I have been dming for around 2/3 years and am decently new to dming 5e. as such as i don’t know every rule but i have a good grasp on the game. For my games, i do tend to follow the rules most of the times however by no means do i go for rules as written and i think it can be fun to bend the rules to allow fun and interesting ideas.
i tend to enjoy playing more rp heavy games though with space for combat as i think it adds to the game but are happy to adjust the flow of the game for the players but im completely happy to havejust full rp session. please add magic to the google doc just to show you have read at least this far
Application If this game sounds like something you would like to take part in feel free to put a application in with the google form. People will not be picked on a first come first serve basis and i will try to get to everyone i can

2023.06.05 01:23 Sharinganprincess91 [F4M] Fandom Roleplay. Looking for more partners. (Super freaking bored and really could use some more partners 😞. Please?)
Side note: I've added a password, so read carefully. If you message me WITHOUT the password, your messages are automatically IGNORED. tired of getting hit up with people who don't read 😒. It's ridiculous cause I've ignored 5+ chats cause none of them contained the password. Things are written for a reason.
Facts about me:
- I have been roleplaying since 2012. Yes, I got experience under my belt, and yes, my ideas usually have really long reads, but don't let that scare you off! After the starter is off, I may lower myself down to a decent paragraph or two, sometimes three! It all depends on what I've got to work with.
- My timezone is EST. I'm awake from 9am - 2am and I'm usually free unless I'm busy doing house chores, out of the house, asleep, or playing video games on my switch. I'm usually become REALLY active at or around 8pm.
Rules:
1: if you don't like 50/50 mixture of sex scenes and story, don't bother hopping into my inbox. I'm fine with sex scenes, but when it's constantly back to back, the roleplay itself gets boring.
2: Be literate. No one liners. I like to write..it's annoying when I send a 2-3 paragraph response and I get 3 lines...just...no. I am not accepting people who are just starting out! If you aren't experienced in writing or roleplaying, kindly stay out of my inbox.
3: Be okay with playing canon characters. I'm mainly doing fandom roleplays right now and it's going to be Canon x my oc. No, I'm not doing double ups. Do not even ask, because the answer will be no every time. I do not give a shit if you think that makes me 'lazy' or 'selfish', if you've got a problem, you can simply ignore or block me. Commenting on my post to bitch and whine about me not doubling up will only result in me blocking you. The ONLY time I'll double up, and if I'm confident enough, I'll only do female characters. I suck at males. Got a problem? Not my issue. Block and move on.
4: Roleplay in third person. I can't and won't adapt to first. Don't even bring up the idea of you playing first person and me playing third. Believe it or not, I've been asked this twice and that is just a hell no for me. The only time I do first, is when I'm writing into my book.
5: if you don't know how to share ideas, then don't bother messaging me. I'm tired of carrying the story when the other person doesn't help. If you've got ideas, then PLEASE speak up! Your opinion on the roleplay matters too! I'm an easy going person, and easy to get along with (dispite my rules).
6: DO NOT control my character. I control what she says, does, hears, sees, ect. I don't control yours, so don't control mine. HOWEVER, if it's highly necessary and needed, then run it by me first and ask me. Just leave me some wiggle room so I can make a decent response. Failure to comply by this rule, results in immediate drop of the rp.
End Note:
Yes, I've updated my rules just a tad. I do not care if it makes me sound mean or rude, because I'm neither of these things. I'm just tired of putting these rules down for a specific reason and they go ignored because I can tell when someone hasn't read them, and lied about it. I'm just trying to get my point across and roleplay. I'm a very easy going person who loves to make friends on the side (which I've somewhat given up on making friends...only a selective few have actually gained my friendship).
Do not hop into my inbox with a simple 'hey' 'hi' 'sup', etc and for God's sake, don't message me with a 'rp?'and proceed me to flash me with your talliwhacker. I promise you, you'll get your feelings hurt and I'll be here laughing at ya 😂. Nobody wants a peen on their screen. Do not send me an image of your one eyed noodle. Thank you. The password is pineapple.

In a testament to the parity of the 2023 competition however, the Titans' current rating of -7.00 would have had them between the 11th ranked Broncos (-6.42) and 12th ranked Sea Eagles (-7.39) at season start, whilst the last ranked Tigers in round 1 had a rating of -15.89. The 'bad' teams are nowhere near as bad as they were last year.
- This will be the second time that the BS machine will have tipped the Tigers as favourites this year, the other being when they were 50.5% favourites over the Knights way back in Round 2. They lost that game by 2 points.
- The Raiders seem to be emerging as dark horses, with their second easiest run home leaving them as the 5th most likely team to make the finals (72.1%) and to finish top 4 (27.0%), in spite of only squeeking past the Tigers by the skin of their teeth. Ricky should send a gift basket to the Cowboys for bringing the Storm down a peg, giving the Raiders a significant boost in the process.
- There are 9 teams still with greater than 50% odds of finals, with it looking like the Warriors and Dolphins are most likely to be the ones battling it out for that last spot. The Roosters (down to 31% chance), along with the Knights (20.6%) and Sea Eagles (18.7%), look to be the other three teams still trying to hang in with a significant chance. The Cowboys (15.3%) have by far the toughest remaining draw, meaning it will be an uphill battle for them to get the 6 to 7 wins from their remaining 10 games that they would likely require to make the finals.
- Per the BS magic number analysis, there is less than a 1 in a million chance of the wooden spoon being won with 10 wins or more (0.2% chance of being won with 9 wins, 4.2% chance with 8 wins), so whilst there is a mathematical way for the 10-4 Broncos to win the wooden spoon, statistically we can rule a line through them. Souths also didn't win the spoon in any of the million simulations this week, but the Panthers won the spoon in one simulation following their narrow victory over spoon favourites the Dragons.

2023.06.05 01:15 Selkcahs Red Deck Wins (RDW) - A Burn/Kuldotha Comprehensive Primer
| Red Deck Wins (RDW) - A Burn/Kuldotha Comprehensive Primer https://preview.redd.it/c1qrmmjy134b1.png?width=381&format=png&auto=webp&s=fe97f85dcc3ec5e493a200175af7920ff7815806 Hi guys, my name is Selkcahs ( https://twitter.com/selkcahs) and I’m an Argentinian MTG/MTGO Grinder that has played competitive Magic for the last 10 years and enjoys writing MTG Primers. While i have dabled myself in a multitude of formats, I've been always pulled back to Pauper due to it’s unique qualities and characteristics. I’ve also played a lot of Archetypes but I've had modestly successful results in the competitive scene with the infamous Red Deck Wins ( https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/300634#paper). While a great many players see themselves above the simplicity of playing Red Aggro, choosing more complex and colorful options; I've always respected the core idea behind it: finding the faster and most efficient way to kill your opponent. “A harmony of mathematical precision” - The Architect expressing his thoughts about the efficiency of Red Deck Wins. That being said, i think it was about time for me to immerse into what is the most dominant Red Aggro Archetype that has ever been seen in the Format; so I hope you enjoy the reading as much as I've enjoyed the writing. A bit of history first... https://preview.redd.it/yqjlp8z1234b1.png?width=306&format=png&auto=webp&s=a7ab53a48760f5b2937c4cc28fb34d6895a08a33 A long time ago, when extra Mana in the Pool burned you and Combat Damage used the Stack, a man made history and revolutionized the whole idea of Deckbuilding in Magic forever. That man was called Paul Sligh, who made 2nd Place in the Atlanta PTQ in 1996 with a deck that by all standards (old and new) seems lackluster and not suited for competitive play. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/3858668#paper The deck itself wasn’t fancy at all and it didn’t play the best cards of his time (it even broke the Golden rule in Magic, to not play more than 60 cards), but it did 1 thing particulary well: It curved with Creatures and Spells from Turn 1, which allowed it to maintain the Tempo advantage with early board presence and pressure. This game plan was helped by Red damage spells that served both as Removals to control the board and Burn to damage directly the opponent’s life totals. The results obtained by Paul in the tournament were so impactful in the Magic competitive scene that from that point on the new decks that followed the same game plan were named “Sligh” in honour of the man that started a new era of building and playing Aggro strategies (even if the original deck idea was designed by another famous player, Jay Schneider). While we have come a long road from that 1996 Atlanta PTQ, the core concepts of that first Mono Red Archetype sticked trough almost all formats: efficient and cheap creatures, combined with Burn spells that focused on closing the game as fast as possible, was a perfectly sound plan to achieve victory in the game of Magic. The Red Menace https://preview.redd.it/l8ab9ma9234b1.png?width=292&format=png&auto=webp&s=3f08c5509b657256786bcf14c936a048d42b38d7 Since the beginning of the Pauper format, the Red Aggro Archetype has existed because the best Burn spells in the game are commons (Fireblast, Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning and all the subsequent and weaker iterations). Despite that, Red Aggro in Pauper historically lacked cheap and efficient creatures to complement their game plan, which meant that it existed as a 2nd Tier deck at most that could only achieve good results sporadically. But that is the past brother, because in the year 2022 Wizards released Double Masters; an expansion focused on reprints that made the fatal mistake of downgrading to common one of the best Red creatures ever printed: She’s beautiful, isn’t she? The moment Monastery was legal on Pauper the entire metagame warped around it, classic Burn decks started playing very similarly to their Legacy counterpart thanks to now having an efficient and hard-to-answer creature. In a few weeks, the format gave birth to a new iteration of Red Aggro called Hot Dogs; which used Monastery, Kiln Fiend and Festival Crasher; paired with various cheap and “free” spells, to deliver One Turn Kills before Turn 4. - Hot Dogs: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5058490#paper When the meta adapted and started efficiently countering the fragile game plan of deploying few early creatures and going all-in for the OTK, Red Mages commited themselves to explore other nefarious ways to abuse their new Prowess girlfriend until someone hit the jackpot when he realized that a combination of Red/Colorless Artifacts allowed you to play Kuldotha Rebirth in a Red Aggro shell with few concessions thanks to cards like Great Furnace, Chromatic Star, Implement of Combustion and Experimental Synthetizer. The most important of those Artifact cards was Synthethizer because it provided something that was unkown to most Burn players until then: Card Advantage. Since that first Sligh deck, Monored has caracterized itself for being all about the Tempo advantage, trading at most 1 for 1 while abusing the early game pressure to nullify the extra cards that your opponent would have in hand until you managed to kill them. With the adition of Synthetizer players started searching other Red cards that provided some sort of Card Advantage when they realized that effects like Reckless Impulse were essentially “Draw 2 cards” when you have that many cheap spells that can be easily deployed during the course of 2 Turns. And thus, the abomination was given birth: - Kuldotha Red: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5094195#paper When the deck was in its apogee, Wizards decided it was a good idea to print another Reckless Impulse; this time named Wrenn’s Resolve. This meant that while Kuldotha continued as a perfectly consistent game plan, Red Decks now had enough card advantage to not even need to play the board with small creatures and focus on more Burn Spells and “Ping” creatures that, if left unanswered, will usually mean a swift and violent death. - Mono Red Burn: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5626897#online The Primer itself Okay, this storytelling until now has been nice and fun, but i promised you a Primer (which usually means an explanation in depth of the Archetype itself) and so i shall deliver: - The Rations https://preview.redd.it/v6u6islg234b1.png?width=576&format=png&auto=webp&s=b1c7bdab8de4144d9a4c64e441f9ea02fae1f540 Yeah you guessed it, we will be playing the best lands a Red Aggro deck can wish for: untapped Basic Mountains. While the most important thing about that beautiful Red mana generator is that it comes Untapped, the Mountain Type is extremely important whenever you are playing cards like Fireblast or Lava Dart. In adittion to those, we also have some more interesting options at our disposal for different purposes: - Mountain: Everything we really need to be honest.
- Great Furnace: Oh boy do i wish i could play 18 of this bad boys, but being able to use 4 in any interation of Burn that abuses Artifacts is good enough.
- The Autonomous Furnace: the only tapped land that we can afford to play because it allows us to increase our chances of not getting screwed in the early game while also cycling itself in the Mid/Late stages of the match. You will usually see it as a 1-of and sometimes as a 2-of.
- Forgotten Cave: A card no longer used in most lists because it can’t be cycled when revealed with “exile” effects.
- The Troops https://preview.redd.it/uqodj32m234b1.png?width=576&format=png&auto=webp&s=9bbbb2bb0f2378f004316c2b8dc5b8675f462f58 As we already discussed, a fundamental part of RDW is having efficient creatures to put pressure in the early game, and this are the best options avalaible right now: - Monastery Swiftspear: Nuff said, it’s so good that its played in any format it’s legal. While to the inexpert eye it may not seem that oppressive, you will soon realize that Prowess triggers with EVERYTHING that is not a creature and that it’s almost impossible to safely block because it can always be pumped in various ways during the Combat Phase. In all intents and purposes, a busted card.
- Voldaren Epicuren: a seemingly inoffensive 1/1 that does A LOT of things, which are dealing direct damage when it ETB and giving you a token Artifact that allows you to cycle useless cards (usually extra Lands). While the card is good by itself, it will always be played in iterations of the deck that can abuse the Artifact Blood Token in various ways.
- Goblin Blast-Runner: A new 1-drop that can deal a lot of damage when you can consistently sacrifice permanents each turn.
- Kuldotha Rebirth: While Kuldotha is a Sorcery, it represents three 1/1 Creatures for 1 mana as long as you can easily get an artifact to sacrifice. While it may seem not that broken, anyone that has played with or against it knows how much of a powerhouse it is.
- Goblin Bushwacker: A monster of a card that multiplies the damage of your board unexpectedly, allowing you to deal massive amounts of damage; used specifically to abuse Kuldotha Rebirth.
- Dwarven Forge-Chanter: The best Red Prowess card besides Monastery, having to deal 2 damage to kill it with a spot removal makes it feel like a common Eidolon of the Great Rebel sometimes.
- Kessig Flamebreather: A “Ping” creature utilized in more Burn focused lists.
- Thermo-Alchemist: Another “Ping” creature like Kessig, used to complement it.
- Burning-Tree Emissary: Another beast of an infrequent downgraded to common. Multiple copies of her in the early game can give you an unfair Tempo advantage while also being decent in the Midgame when combined with other cards.
- Underworld Rage-Hound: A creature that has seen little use but that has a lot of potential in grindy matchups.
- The Guns https://preview.redd.it/g7ueg5go234b1.png?width=576&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab14856d22b9c98071ae03d4bdcc750a9f5b5544 One fundamental component of Red Aggro is playing cards that deal direct damage to the opponent, to their creatures or both; here are the best options in today’s Pauper: - Lightning Bolt: The best red damage spell ever printed, period.
- Chain Lightning: The next best thing after Lightning Bolt, a bit tricky to play against decks with easy access to double Red.
- Galvanic Blast: An extremely powerful burn spell as long as you can consistently have Metalcraft; in the worst cases it works as a Shock which usually gets the job done.
- Lava Dart: The bane of Faires and most 1 thoughness Creatures while also providing 2 triggers in 1 card of Prowess/Ping. A monster of a card in the right situation.
- Fireblast: 0 mana for 4 damage? Well yes we’ll take it. The small detail of having 2 sacrifice 2 Mountains is usually little relevant in the Mid/Late game.
- Searing Blaze: An historic 2x1 card for Burn. While it usually shines in formats with Fetchlands, it’s still good enough when played on your turn with the natural landrop.
- Lava Spike: 1 mana for 3 damage to the face is usually all you really need when playing a list focused on burning your opponent directly.
- Rift Bolt: One of the “worst” 1 mana burn spell due to having to wait 1 turn to work or costing 3 (which is sub-optimal to say the least).
- Skewer the Critics: The least used “Bolt” of the pack due to how hard can it be to cast for 1 mana in a lot of situations.
- Firebolt: A sorcery Shock with an expensive Flashback, rarely used.
- Seal of Fire: Another niche card that has it uses when you want to use Trigger effects while saving the “shock” for later.
- Needle Drop: A tool from another time when Red Burn decks didn’t had any real access to card advantage, rarely used this days.
- Goblin Grenade: A niche option for decks that heavily use Goblins creatures.
- Shock: Just don’t play this, please.
- Curse of the Pierced Heart: If i find you playing this card we gonna have problems okay? This is from a bygone era when Burn was desperate for a way to maintain damage-over-time; this is no longer the case now that we have access to card advantage mechanisms.
- The Ammo https://preview.redd.it/543ymqgq234b1.png?width=576&format=png&auto=webp&s=bae5401eaef1bdba7f21cd988bb362ed3908a34b While for classic Burn players the adittion of non-land cards that don’t efficiently deal direct damage or inmediatly increase the board presence may seem strange, they are the sole reason why Burn stopped being a Tier 2/3 deck and become the undisputed master of the format. - Reckless Impulse/Wrenn’s Resolve: Both cards do exactly the same effect, they exile 2 cards until the end of your next turn; for all intents are purposes, in a low curve Burn deck, this effectively is “2 mana, draw 2 cards”. This type of card advantage allows Burn to not be afraid of play the value game and it’s common nowadays seeing Red Aggro outgrinding their opponents thanks to this kind of tools.
- Experimental Syntethizer: An absolute beast of an Artifact, when correctly played it represents a 3x1 card advantage that is extremely hard to deal with. Do take in mind that the card exiled must be played the same turn or it will be lost; but then again, this is usually an easy endeavour in a low curve deck.
- Chromatic Star: A card that cycles itself while providing an Artifact. Usually used by lists with Kuldotha Rebirth.
- Implement of Combustion: A cousin of Chromatic Star, it deals damage when being manually cycled but it doesn’t provide mana. Depending on your approach to the Archetype you may sometimes find more value in the extra point of damage instead of regaining the invested mana when cycling with Star.
- Mutagenic Growth: A “free” pump spell specially useful in Prowess based lists.
- Manamorphse: A card that allows “free” triggers of Ping and Prowess creatures.
- The Garrison https://preview.redd.it/0tv0hldt234b1.png?width=576&format=png&auto=webp&s=4c4448c2a93da17b3f04d439941c84898d47e05f Sometimes people don’t like being burned to death, so they will try to employ strategies to prevent us from doing that; and while when choosing between only Red card our Sideboaes options may seem limited, we have more than enough tools against most decks in the format. - End the Festivities: It allows us to deal with 1 thougness creatures for 1 mana while also doing a bit of damage to the opponent. An extremely efficient sweeper that is sometimes Mainborded.
- Electrickery: Instant sweeper that can very relevant against Faeries or Bushwacker + Kuldotha.
- Pyroblast/Red Elemental Blast: The anti-Blue hate cards by default, they come in handy specially to counter opposing Hydroblast/Blue Elemental Blast. You will always find youself using Pyroblast over REB (unless you want more than 4 copies) because Pyro can be played against any permanent/spell even if it’s not Blue, thus allowing us to get a Prowess/Ping trigger if needed.
- Gorilla Shaman: A monkey that hates Affinity almost as much as you, while useless against Bridges it can get a lot of value against normal Artfifact Lands and other pesky permanents. Ironically, it can be sided in sometimes against Kuldotha based lists trying to punish their heavy Artifact use.
- Smash to Smithereens: Destroying an artfact and dealing 3 damage? You are playing Burn, what else do you really need?
- Shattering Blow: In a format plagued by indestructible Bridges, Shattering Blow can win some games by itself in the right situations.
- Relic of Progenitus: The best Graveyard hate in the format, as long as you are not heavily depending on your own Graveyard to play.
- Raze: We will usually have far more Lands that we need to comfortly operate, which allows us to trade 1x2 to destroy powerful enemy Lands like Bouncelands, Basilisk Gate and Lands enchanted with Utopia Sprawl/Abundant Growth.
- Molten Rain: Paying 3 mana to destroy a Land is a lot for us, you are probably better with Raze in most situations.
- Flaring Pain: A great way to bypass effects that prevent damage, specially against cards like Prismatic Strands.
- Flame Slash: 1 mana for 4 damage to a creature is great way to clear the board and keep swinging our boys sideways.
- Mine Collapse: A “free” removal spells that can take out most creatures in the format.
- Martyr of Ashes: An old card no longer used due to how hard it is to get good value out of it.
- The Battle Plan Von Moltke after he casted 3 Lightning Bolts to the face and the opponent responded with a Weather the Storm. “A game plan for Burn? Isn’t as easy as just targeting all our spells to the opponent’s face while we swing with our creatures?” Oh my sweet summer child, you couldn’t be more wrong. While Aggro decks in general (specially Red ones) have a straightforward strategy of killing the opponent as fast as possible, and sometimes you will encounter yourself with “automatic” hands were the road to victory is extremely clear; this also means that the slightest mistake can put you in a position where you lack the resources needed to close the game. Countless games of Magic have been lost because the opponent stayed at 1 life away of lethal only for you to realize that you missed that 1 point of damage in a seemingly unimportant missplay some turns before. So the central point is: you will probably have to take a lot less decisions when playing Red Aggro than other more “complicated” Archetypes, so you better think things through really well because having few decisions means that the smallest innacuracy will often have dire consequences. … “Okay, okay, Got it. Just don’t fuck up and point everything to the face then?” Wrong again, probably the worst play Monored can do today is Turn 1: Mountain, Bolt to the face. While more classic iterations of the Archetype focus on incinerating the opponent’s life total as fast as possible, we have learnt better. While Red Aggro’s goal is to maximize the damage dealt to the opponent, usually the most efficient way to do this is by sticking a few good Threats into the board and using our damage spells to control it and consistently deal damage over time; a plan that is helped by our newfound access to Card Advantage that will keep Creatures and Burn spells flowing turn after turn. Thus, we will only point our Bolts directly to the face when they will allow us to close the game in the immeadiate future. While in the 2 current iterations of RDW we will see a propensity of Kuldotha caring more on maintaining board control and Ping Burn more focused on burning directly the opponent, neither of this decks can afford to mindlessly waste their Bolts. … “So you mean that i have to THINK when playing Monored?” Sadly yes, besides the nut draw where you will win the match effortlessly you will need to find the right balance between board development, card advantage and burning the fuck out of your opponent’s creatures/life points. Playing correctly will usually allows us to neutralize the few ways our adversary has to counter us: - Did the opponent chained 2/3 Weather the Storm and went up to 60 lifes?
No problem mate, they have just lost those cards because we will be grinding them out with card advantage and our creatures will eventually drain their life attacking, even if it takes a good couple of turns. - Is the opponent holding multiple Blue mana open with potential Counterspell effects?
Easy peasy lemon squeezy. If they are leaving a lot of mana open and unused, they probably won’t be able to advance their game plan either, we can just gather our cheap resources and play them all together baiting their responses. If we play something and it resolves, we call it a win and continue to let them waste their Tempo; if they do decide to user their Countermagic, we then have an opening to resolve a potentially more powerful spell, which should be something that provides card advantage that would then allows to happily trade one of those extra resources to their Counterspells later. - Are they killing each and every creature we put on the Board?
Well after all we are called Burn for something and while we do like to use our creatures to push damage, we are more than happy to go the incendiary route when needed. Also, as long as you don’t walk into a sweeper situation that allows the opponent to trade 1 big removal for several of our resources, we should be able to eventually utilize our card advantage to put into play more threats than the amount of removals spells our opponent have. - Is the opponent drawing a lot of cards, gaining life and also pressuring us?
Well give me a break, you can’t win them all. Sadly sometimes you will lose no matter what you do, specially if the opponent is well prepared and teched against Burn. With all the positives we have discussed here, in some situations playing a Monocolor Aggro deck that everyone is expecting is not the smartest choice; but even then, current RDW is so powerful that with a bit of luck you can even get good results against the harshest of matchups. Burn samples: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5654255#paper https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5654242#paper Kuldotha samples: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5654243#paper https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5641081#paper Conclusion https://preview.redd.it/xgfo9902334b1.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=78d986da2f9bacfbf934ff4d0f7457f095410536 Okay, that’s been a long one for me and i hope that everyone that read it had a good time. As of June 2023, and since the release of the Lady in Red in June 2022, we have experienced an undisputed dominance of the different variants of Red Deck Wins that shaped the format around it; basically, if you are playing a deck that is too slow to withstand an early Monastery/Kuldotha opening you are setting yourself up for a rough time in Pauper. This have forced the players to choose between 3 main option if they decide to play the format competitively: - Play a Burn variant.
- Play an anti-Burn Archetype.
- Play a “Combo” deck that tries to ignore being set on fire while it does it’s own thing.
As the Pauper Format Panel (PFP), who’s in charge of monitoring the “health” of the metagame, has stated multiple times that they think there are no changes needed in the format; we are left with the only option of basking in ther infinite knowledge and enjoy being constantly burned to death if we want to continue playing Pauper in the foreseable future. If you enjoyed the reading be sure to check my other Primers: https://www.reddit.com/Paupecomments/w5td9k/faeries_primer_a_comprehensive_guide/ https://www.reddit.com/Paupecomments/wxzd8e/uw_cawgate_prime I also have a Patreon that, while mainly focused on the UW Caw-Gate Archetype right now, provides anything related to the Pauper format; including decks discussion, metagame analysis and coaching services. submitted by Selkcahs to Pauper [link] [comments] |
2023.06.05 01:14 D4DerpJockey DanganDJ Last 2 Chapters
Chapter 5: Despair Jockeys:
Mirroring the storyline that got them kidnapped by Junko in the first place (not that they remember), Monochio’s motive for the 5th chapter is another D4DJ BATTLE TIME. In one week, whichever of the three surviving DJs most impresses it, that DJ will win the title of Ult. DJ, get to go home, and get to take one person with them.
Mirroring First Mix plot points, this chapter focuses primarily on Rinku, Maho, Muni, Kyoko, and Shinobu, and the envy, insecurity, and inferiority that permeates their relationships. Muni feels at odds with Maho because if Maho wins, she’s taking Rinku home with her. Muni and Maho feel at odds with Kyoko and Shinobu because they catch Rinku with Kyoko and Shinobu multiple times. Kyoko feels at odds with Rinku because she catches Rinku with Shinobu.
Only Shinobu and Rinku don’t feel awkward, and that’s because, ever since Nozomi’s EMP attack against Monochio (even though it failed) and the blackout in the VR lab, Shinobu has been working hard to figure out a way to end the Killing Game. Along the way, she’s gathered information about the outside world, including a so-called Ult. Hope. Rinku doesn’t feel awkward because she’s Rinku.
At the same time, M4 is at odds with everyone else because they protected Dalia until the very end, even after she was found guilty, and none of the four would ever admit any of their guilt. That leads to tension with RONDO which leads to tension with Miyu (since she’s close to Tsubaki and Saori both). To redeem themselves, though, M4 proposes a plan. Saori will help one of the other DJs win the contest.
Maho and Shinobu create a pact with Saori wherein they will allow Maho to win and escape with Rinku. The night of the show, Shinobu calls Rinku away for one final farewell. After Shinobu departs, Kyoko walks in and talks to Rinku about her feelings of jealousy, inferiority, and insecurity. Then Muni joins, having seen Rinku disappear with Kyoko and Shinobu. Then Maho joins and a fight breaks out.
By the end of it, Maho is the winner of the BATTLE TIME and Rinku and Kyoko are dead, the former beaten and strangled to death, her blood coating the walls and floors. Kyoko, meanwhile is hanging from a catwalk by an extension cable.
The trial reveals that Kyoko is the killer, both of Rinku and herself. Driven to Despair during the five-person fight, she finally catches Rinku off guard alone. The shame overwhelms Kyoko and the students are able to prove that she’s responsible because the cable she was hanging by came from a room only she could access. It was a room behind a musical lock that could only be opened by an Ult. Vocalist.
This is also when Kyoko finally remembers her Talent, but it frustrates her because she perceives it as a worthless Talent since she’s surrounded by vocalists all the time, including Tsubaki, who is an Ult. Vocalist.
Monochio demands that someone be executed since Kyoko is already dead and Shinobu volunteers. She claims that it is for Kyoko's sake, but the truth is that she knew how to hijack executions. It was supposed to be Rinku’s task to shut them down once she and Maho were free, but after Rinku’s death, Shinobu improvised.
Her execution is "Dance 4 Deadly Justice" and starts off with her playing an FPS before being deposited into a racing game, then a fighting game. It is during the fighting game that she breaks out of the level and entices Monochio to chase her.
She corners it and forces it to play against her in the fourth and final level of her execution. It is a rhythm game with a Kyoko avatar and Shinobu chooses the song “Electric Chaos Countdown”, drowning out Monochio’s execution music for the first time.
By the end of the song, the game crashes and Monochio's body is destroyed while Shinobu's is nowhere to be found within the wreckage of the execution.
The DR trope most prominent and important in this chapter is the "crazy plot twist" of the 5th trial, which in this case was everything Shinobu did to put herself in a position where she could hijack and shut down her own execution and Monochio at the same time from within the execution itself.
Another DR trope in this chapter is the face-slap. In this case, Rika and Tsubaki fight over which unit is more responsible for what happened to Aoi and Dalia and it ends with Tsubaki slapping Rika.
Chapter 6: The Ultimate Motive, and the Ultimate Class Trial:
With Monochio dead, but still no way out of the school, the survivors explore every inch of Hope's Pinnacle, even places that used to be locked. In doing so, they find one last recording from Monochio about a final class trial.
In it, the survivors must identify the masterminds. If they get at least half correct, they are all free to leave. If they get less than half correct, they must all face their executions. To make it a little fairer, however, each execution is survivable, but only just barely.
In the end, the survivors fail to guess 3/6. They misidentify Kurumi as a mastermind because they had a photo of her and Kokichi leading the DICE group with no context. Hiiro is able to persuade them that Nagisa is the mastermind, hence why Hiiro had to trick her into an early grave, although she had no idea Miiko’s prank was going to be the weapon that Nagisa used. Rika tried to just give up her identity but Monochio refused to accept it as valid on the grounds of cheating. Noa was misidentified as a mastermind because of her behavior at the end of the third trial.
Rei is able to figure out Esora because of her faint memories of Esora’s rivalry with Byakuya, including her collusion with the Towa Conglomeration. And Maho is outed by footage of herself goading Kyoko into killing Rinku. It was footage she failed to clear while everyone else was searching for a way out of the school after the 5th execution.
Junko gets an obligatory Trial 6 cameo, as Rika calls her up to prove that she’s M4’s mastermind.
Failing to meet Monochio's standards, the survivors are put through their executions and only Miyu, Tsubaki, Hiiro, Saori, Marika, Towa, and Esora survive. Miyu is saved by luck, Hiiro's fortune told her she would survive, Towa was rescued by Miyu, and Esora beat her execution, although she failed to save Rei from hers. Saori and Marika were spared from their executions entirely.
Another thing Rika did to prove her identity was to confess her true Talent as the Ult. Arsonist and shoot a blast of flames from her palms to make a point. The flames wounded Saori and Marika, and because it would’ve been considered unfair to send them through their executions while they were injured (thanks to Haruna’s hand in programming Monochio’s adherence to rules and fairness), the fiery attack became the execution they had to survive, which was far easier than what would’ve been in store for them. There are several endings which I will cover in another post.

2023.06.05 01:07 Outlast_FGC Sparring: The Council's Right Hand Vs. The Humans
We were the best fighters of the Council. When they waged war, when the armies defended us our worlds, we were used to infiltrate the enemy, no weapons, use our pure fighting ability. The Koro were used as muscle, big and burly, yet sluggish. Hard hitting with our muscles that can crush steel, yet dimwitted . So the other lesser races said. Then there are the Te-Win, used as strikers and leaders, they have a a cartilage based exoskeleton, which amplifies their punches and kicks, yet are easily enraged. You should see them when the enemy pokes fun at them, good times all around... well not for them. Last but not least are the Murs, used as scouts. They have a flair for the dramatic, but with their four legs and six eyes, they are fast and reflect this with their fighting style, of a weak yet relentless wave of attacks looking for openings to strike and then dodging when faced with a counter attack. Too showy for my licking but hilarious when confusing the hell out of the enemy.
Yes, were were the right hand of the council. For the most dire of mission they used a team of three members. The best of the each species. The rest knew it. We saved multiples plants from bio-attacks, world wide authoritarian regimes, and rouge teams that betrayed the Council.
So imagine my surprise when the humans decided to challenge us. The Council were taken aback, and even denied their request. They were worried we would kill them. The humans didn't have an exoskeleton, they weren't particularly fast, they were short and weak compared to the average Koro. All in all, they were a remarkably unremarkable species. The human were persistent however and The Council eventually relented. However they, The Council, decided put on a show for them first, mostly to convince the humans that it was a bad idea. After the demonstrations, me and my teammates looked at the humans and what I saw gave me a bad feeling in my two stomachs. They were completely stone-faced, as if they already seen this happen before, or worse they knew how to beat us.
Getting past this, we decided to give them ten cycles, or to them, one month to gather their best fighters. We decided to give them the handicap of five allowed fighter to our three. One of them looked past me, not at me, past me with a crazed grin in his eyes. They were telling me, " I know how to beat you, you won't lay a finger on me , now I wasn't so sure about our victory or giving them the handicap for that matter.
Ten cycles pass, and we went to the Council Field of Battle for our bout. Our team was I, Tomack the Koro, the Te-Win Gwrex, and the Murs, Zekmor. We were the best in our respective species and were feeling good. The Humans however were frightening. They also consisted of three members. I let out a breath of relief, but soon got worried again. We mostly focused on one area of fighting; endurance, power, or speed. We all worked in conditioning though. These humans however, looked like they worked in everything area of fighting. Endurance, power, speed, conditioning, and even their fighting mentality. Their team consisted of three fighters, I think this was to mess with us. A large human, nicknamed Orochi, holds the title of Yokozuna in the fighting style of sumo. A human named Roberto Gracie, a descendant of one of the founders of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He was the human that saw through me. The last fighter was a student of Muay Thai, or the Art of Eight Limb. His name was Chai Son.
When we saw these humans, we knew we were wrong to underestimate this species. We have always thought that one species would be good at one angle of fighting. These humans changes their body, mind, and soul to attain fighting perfection, and they are going to show that the right hand of the Council, the best of the best, can be felled by these perfect humans.

2023.06.05 01:05 BubblyWeekend2760 18 [M4F] Ontario or Florida - Just hoping to meet someone special :)
Hi. My name is Evan. Idk what I’m really supposed to put here, so I’m sorry if this description comes off as awkwardly written haha. While I wouldn’t class myself as a hopeless romantic, I am pretty hopeless lmao. I’m 18 years old and I’m from Ontario, Canada. I also have a vacation home in Winter Haven Florida, and I go there every few months for like a week. I’m not really used to dating, but hopefully I won’t fumble this one haha. I got out of a relationship about four months ago (I’d like to say that it ended amicably, but she probably would disagree since she abruptly vanished and also relocated her locker as it was close to mine :/ ), and I’m finding it hard to deal with life now that I’m without someone I really click with and can confide in. I’ll try not to be clingy, but please let me know if I am. I enjoy acting (I’m actually a professional actor, which I think is kinda neat), theatre, singing, drawing, gaming, art, and nerdy stuff lol. I also like going for walks to just take in the scenery, and I have a strange talent in that I can barefoot waterski.
I’m going to University next year to study physics, assuming I don’t have some last-minute change of heart.
Some of my favourite games are TF2, Webbed (the cute lil spider game), Spyro The Dragon, Tetris, most Zelda games, Portal… actually I tend to like most games lmao. I don’t watch a lot of movies or tv shows (except for the ones that I am in) because I often get busy or distracted, but I like most films. I do admittedly have (very mild and medicated) ADHD and anxiety, along with just some basic shyness, but hopefully it’s not too bad :)
My friends all say that I’m very funny, though I can’t personally tell if I am or not.
If for some strange reason that sounds cool, then absolutely feel free to strike up a conversation! I’m always happy to chat :D

2023.06.05 01:03 Nanchika Voyager ch 57 ,Promised Land
During my reread, I noticed that in one random sentence there are so many things to unpack. Of course, only on my n-th reread I saw this:
Kingston Harbor stretched to our left, glowing like liquid sapphires in the morning light, the town above half-sunk in jungle green, cubes of yellowed ivory and pink rose-quartz in a lush setting of emerald and malachite.
So I wanted to know about mentioned colours and gemstones since they will be important for the Jamaica storyline.
Saphires -John (they are with him, we will see him on Jamaica)
Jungle green - Geilis (eyes)
Ivory - colour of the bones ( Geillis's bones from Abandawe), colour of the Claire's skin and her boar tusk bracelets are ivory, too
Rose-quartz - unconditional love ( J and C)
Emerald - it appears to have symbolism as revealer of the truth ( William's paternity to Claire) and also symbolises future renewal and growth, justice and harmony. ( After that reveal they will renew and grow)
Malachite - symbolises bringing things from the past and removing them. (Geilis) A stone of transformation which draws out the impurities.( Geilis)
I just wanted to share this with you.😊
If you have something you noticed on your reread feel free to share!

2023.06.05 01:02 Bucket-with-a-hat Some cool things I noticed during the battle
I noticed a couple of things during the battle that I thought were neat nods to the lore, primarily for the Elder Scrolls because I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough to comment on those.
- The Dragonborn used exactly 8 shouts throughout the whole fight (whiffed Fus Ro Dah included) yet didn't die showing the rupturing of a cycle the Dragonborn is known for
The number 8 is important to LKHN as he was killed by the other 8 aedra, had his body split into 8 pieces and his heart became one of the 8 towers that maintain Mundus
A popular theory on Skyrim says the DB is a Shezarrine, an incarnation of LKHN's wandering spirit
- Primarily a melee fighter like any self-respecting modern nord
- Funny flying stick does the funny
"I used to be an adventurer like you.... Then I took an arrow to the knee"
- First direct hit on the Dragonborn lands on his heart (center of the chest really)
LKHN is missing his heart
- His "shield-thane" was killed by an archer
Tsun was the shield-thane of LKHN and was killed by Trinimac
- Ironically, gets hit by an attack powered by the moon (across his midsection which makes it even better)
The twin moons you see in Tamriel are LKHN's corpse
- Stops the rekindling of the Age of Fire, arguably putting an end to a form of stasis, much like how LKHN did.
- If I understood correctly what someone explained to me, the Age of Dark refers to an age of humanity in its true state, with the world being shrouded in darkness free of time and whatnot. This highlights the conflicting nature of the Dragonborn I've been noting here, with him being a fragment of both AKA and LKHN; on one hand he recreates a lot of moments through which LKHN suffered but on the other he seeks the stasis and a return the primordial state of the world before the convention.
Before the Convention, there was no linear time in the universe and this period was called the Dawn Era. The ehlnofey were the spirits of all mortal beings before they were bound to Mundus; there are many different interpretations as to why LKHN made Mundus but the Dunmeri version of events (important because theirs are allegedly backed by knowledge coming from a couple of Daedric princes who were present at this time and also Vivec) claims that Mundus exists as a sort of testing ground so that a spirit would eventually emerge from the constant hardships and 'replace' (not really but this is the easiest explanation) the uncaring Godhead
- The voice at the end seemingly went mad and did a 180 on its allegiance; I don't believe an enantiomorph occured here but there are elements which indicate it might have happened (The Chosen Undead being 'The King', Dragonborn 'The Rebel' and the voice acting as 'The Observer', shrouding the world in darkness probably qualifies for the blinding part required for an enantiomorph)
Enantiomorphs occur when two opposing forces are so similar that their places could be switched and nothing would change; there are 3 actors required for one to happen:
'The Rebel, The King and The Observer, the action that is carried out in a performance is that the rebel reigns the king, who has previously ruled a domain in which the rebel is involved and usurped them. The third participant, the observer, is either severely injured or killed in the course of this process. If this action is carried out, the king becomes the new rebel, while the rebel is henceforth king.'
In this case, the battle takes places at Gwyn's arena after the Chosen Undead has defeated him, Dragonborn approaches him with the intent of ending the Age of Fire and the Voice is presumably watching this whole thing
And that's it, I think, feel free to add anything below

2023.06.05 00:59 MassiveReign Episode 6
Episode 6
Back in the woods just west of Cincinnati in a dilapidated barn, Ridgemont and his supervisor, Harlan Brooks, were surveying the area to put signs to indicate the rural and largely undisturbed nowhere they stood was to become the path of a major railway.
In the frenzied gnats and baking sun beside an old rusting Ford F-250 just under the cover of the barn. On the back window, a sticker still visible that read “I will NOT worship your DEIty,” they had stopped for a break before they headed back to their state vehicle parked off the main road.
Brooks was a hard-working man who had been in the same department – installing wayfinding signs for the state – going on almost 23 years. He was a simple man, easy going…always on time and rarely took any sort of extended vacations.
“You do gotta be careful,” he explained to Ridgemont. “This can be a dangerous job. We’re lifting up a ten foot square of sheet metal – something happens…it ain’t secure or something…you’re lookin at a giant guillotine.”
“Has anything ever happened?” Ridgemont asked him.
“I seen it one time,” Brooks began. “About 15 years ago, we were up over just north of Cincinnati, below Clifton puttin up a new exit ramp sign. I hadn’t quite made supervisor yet, I was still on crew. This particular day we had a community service group putting in their hours they had assigned to us. And in our group, we had a new guy, about 22 years old, named Alberto. Two of the community service walk-ons were up in the bucket getting it secured to the frame and Alberto went underneath to get a look at how it was lining up. Well one of them in the bucket thought the other one had it bolted on already and they let it go and it fell straight down through Alberto’s neck and out his torso…it cut him in half, pool fella. I almost quit. One of the worst sights I ever seen.”
“Wow,” said Ridgemont, obviously unphased.
“So 2 warnings,” said Brooks, “don’t stand under no signs and we always do a triple check to make sure it’s bolted on tight before anyone lets it go.”
Ridgemont looked out into the woods, “So where’s this rail going?” he asked.
“As far as we’re concerned, to the river,” he said. “But I think it’s supposed to go down to Wichita.”
“How many signs do we need to do for this one?” Ridgemont asked.
“Says 6 from downtown Cincinnati to the river at Delhi Hills – then the Kentucky crew will take it from there. Typically we’ll get our order form for the week, usually about 50 -60 new signs, change-outs, inspections…and when we’re done with those – we’re done for the week. So we can usually finish up by Thursday – a 4 day work week. Not bad, you know.”
“Yeah,” Ridgemont said…”not bad.”
Vance Owens stood inside the Kentucky state capitol building, speaking into what was known as the media box – dubbed ‘the meadow’. It was a virtual reality room in which anyone or podcaster or syndicate could pull the feed and comment, ask questions. The senator was providing commentary on the developing space program and the new discovery of an Earth-like planet found orbiting the star, Alkaid in the Ursa Major constellation.
“Kentucky – particularly Mayfield – is committed to being a central hub and accommodating location for the pursuant space program and new efforts to reach the stars,” he said. “We are right off the Ohio River, feeding into the Mississippi. We are at a geographic location that isn’t light-polluted and Kentuckians are ready to take on this challenge and take this generation into distant reaches of the galaxy.”
Someone in the VR indicated via light that she had a question.
Owens pointed over, acknowledging.
“Thank you, Senator Owens. Recent talks have definitely gotten people talking and this all seems very ambitious. Given that the CIRN Federation is the leader in space exploration and these announcements around coming on the heels of their admittedly, now-failed ten year colonization efforts of Mars, what kinds of resistance do you expect for America 2 to pursue a mission lightyears away?” asked the woman.
“Well I think that’s a valid and grounded skepticism to hold,” he answered. “And I understand this is an uphill battle to gain public trust in the mission and we will need all 5 American sektors on board – but I have seen the science and new technology behind what might be possible and I want Kentucky to be at the forefront of this – that’s a gamble I’m ready to take.”
It was about 8PM when Ridgemont and Madame Tandoori arrived at the little studio of Ron Rosen. It was a converted upstairs bedroom of a fairly unimpressive house in north Cincinnati. Rosen had a sizeable following – but that didn’t translate to wealth. He made above the universal basic income, but no enough to be extravagant. Most of the people who hung around his house just used drugs, wasting away.
The pair walked up to Rosen’s upstairs studio and took a seat. The lottery numbers would be called at 9PM and Rosen would compare with the numbers Madame Tandoori had chosen the night before. The hour leading up to the drawing was spent with Rosen veiled insulting the pair and other jokes at their expense as the room of his ‘yes men’ types laughed.
It was 8:55 and Rosen shifted his conversation but maintained his tone of Ridgemont and Madame Tandoori being the butt of his jokes, “Alright, it’s about the moment we’ve all been waiting for…they’re about to call the lottery numbers in 5 minutes. And so last night, I asked you to put your powers to the test, and you filled out a six-numbered lottery ticket, the Cold Cash Slamma Jamma and we will reveal here, in real time how you did,” he said with inflections of cynicism.
He turned in his seat and opened a vault with a sealed envelope and asked one of his co-hosts to open them and hand the ticket to Madame Tandoori. Rosen had been insulting her all evening long and this was to be the climax of the show in which he would completely humiliate her.
“And before they call this, I want to let be known, I am so confident in this that I found a casino to take this bet at massive odds and I put down $30,000 betting you would not get any more than 3 numbers correct – and I only gave you that allowance in the event of random dumb luck. But that’s how confident I am that you are a fraud,” he said.
“Wow,” she said, unphased and looked over at Ridgemont. “I’ll tell you what, I don’t want you to walk away empty-handed, so when I win, you can have half the ticket.”
They all laughed. He asked one of his co-hosts what the winning jackpot prize was, and it was $2.63 billion.
“So it’s a win-win,” Rosen said. “Either way lads, we’re gonna be moving into a much nicer studio, better house…”
The lottery came up and the numbers began coming up and they were; 45-19-18-02-37-20.
Rosen looked up and said, “Okay, so 2, 18,19,20, 37, 45…as if the odds weren’t bad enough, but the odds of 3 consecutive numbers like that? 18,19,20….but let’s get to the main course…Madame Tandoori…please reveal your ticket to the us and 44 million other people watching around the world right now.”
She looked at Ridgemont and they grinned at each other. She held up the ticket and it read, 02, 18,19,20,37,45.
Rosen’s crew erupted. Rosen went pale, stunned and then flush red in the face, terrified. “That’s impossible,” he uttered.
He looked around and back at her, “Well, at least I get half!”
She looked at him and said, “Yep, I’m a woman of my word, here is your half,” and she ripped the ticket in half and gave it to him and ate her half.
The room was split between people shocked and people screaming.
“You sick bitch!” Rosen screamed at her. “Shut down the stream!” he yelled. “You two are dead!” He was slamming his fist on the table.
He jumped up to lunge at Madame Tandoori and as he was charging toward her he stopped and grabbed his head, screaming. His eyes rolled back into his head and his mouth agape and tongue hanging out. His arms, wrists, fingers and legs were locking and spasming and he fell to the ground. Madame Tandoori watched and looked back at Ridgemont, who sat there stone expressionless watching Rosen convulse on the ground.
One of the guys in the room got up and started charging toward Ridgemont, “What the fuck did you do??!”
As he was about to shove Ridgemont with his massive arms, he stopped and grabbed his chest, gasping for breath and collapsed.
Just outside the home studio of Ron Rosen, in a nice vehicle, sat Daphne Chambers. She looked up to the window of the studio and Madame Tandoori walked up to the window and looked outside at her and they looked one another in the eyes.
“We’ve got enough room for one more,” Madame Tandoori told her through their minds.
Daphne started the car and drove off.

2023.06.05 00:50 Euphoric-Weekend-969 An Open Letter to Myself
This is a strange open letter to myself that was born out of some "power thoughts" on a recent long(ish) distance run of mine.
The story starts not at the beginning of my life but in early-2019 at a pretty tumultuous time in my life sodden with turmoil, sadness and a big sprinkle of distress.
In March 2019, I left China. I left my then partner. I left the prospect of a life & home in Canada. I left my savings, my job, & the security that I had been cultivating in the last three years since leaving university for myself.
I got a flight to London. I couldn't bear to go home to [small town]. Home was so sad. So London, where I had a few friends, it was.
I got there but I was, in my own very reductive words, "loveless, jobless, homeless". I spent the first two weeks relying on the kindness of my best friend and his housemates that let me share the bottom of his bed whilst I desperately searched for any job I could get. My mind and my body both on autopilot focusing solely on survival. Get that job. Find a room to rent. Mental health on the back burner.
Since then, I've battled a horrific abortion alone (a remnant of my relationship in China), I've lived at the whim of an incredibly creepy, toxic and controlling live-in landlord, I've suffered multiple heartbreaks (most from the same man!), I've battled crippling depression which left me incapable of leaving the house for days if not weeks at a time masked vy Covid (thanks Covid - I think?!), I had gained a lot of weight, I've survived multiple attempts to take my own life, and I've lost a few friends along the way too.
However now, today, June 4th 2023, I can proudly say that I am in a place in my life where I am happy.
I am confident. I am no longer depressed. I have been free from suicidal ideation for over 6 months. I am healthy. I am building my physical & mental strength. I leave the house almost everyday. I drink very little. I am financially comfortable. I am very much in love. I am about to buy my first place in this terribly expensive city all by myself. And most importantly, I am happy.
I've worked exceptionally hard to get here. It really hasn't been easy. I've been lucky enough to be surrounded by people who've helped me through these profound life experiences & lessons.
I'm on this clichéd neverending journey of self-acceptance, understanding, and love. I know it won't always feel this good, but today it feels amazing.
How far we've come, ey.

2023.06.05 00:49 DeepSword1115 How are warband battle tactics determined?
Let’s say a warband renegade or chaos has 2 titans 8 knights 3000 traitor guard and maybe 400 marines. How are battle tactics determined? Is it just a free for all or do the forces have to know each others tactics?

2023.06.05 00:47 Inevitable-Ad9926 Fat Gotenks concept since I’m expecting Orange piccolo to be part two which means there’s a chance that Fat Gotenks could be a 1%. This character will function primarily as a Fusion Warrior support character since the team desperately needs one.
