In this game I remember that you had to reach a isolated island full of secrets after you archeologist aunt(?) dies. I remember that there were 4 holy Mary statues that represented the 4 seasons and if you gave them a gem they would change the world to the according season. The order to fill them was (I think) spring winter fall and lastly summer. I remember the hardest puzzle was a circle of golden snakes that had to be rotated to form a code. The start was in front of the spring statue and right after there were 3 path, left one lead to a pond, middle one to a tree house and right I really canât remember maybe some medieval riuns(?). The ending was in a lab under the start and I remember being a small isolated island who was unlocked by walking on a trail of stones just above the water and a puzzle in which you had to break some vase(?). I played it a lot during my childhood and Iâd love to play it again. Thank in advance for the help

2023.06.03 19:50 Kater_Labska Ultimate Maisie Guide
Since Maisie's one of my favourites, why not make a guide about her? Most people don't pick her, maybe because she seems hard, but in the reality, she isn't! Basic info: Shop price: 560 Coins Games: Murder Island 2 Gender: Female
Now let's head on to the clues! â˘Fabric: Purple, White â˘Hair: Purple â˘Shoes: White â˘Accessory Colors: Black
I will now be giving these clues points as to how much you should use these, with 1 being the most and 5 being the least. â˘Purple Fabric - 4. Purple Fabric is not common and is not a good pick for Maisie. Unless Professor Plum or any other obvious purple fabric user is in e server, don't use it. â˘White Fabric - 1. White fabric is a very common fabric color and is the best fabric you can use as Maisie. It allows framing and Maisie does not display white fabric very clearly, as people connect her most of the time with purple and not with white. â˘Purple Hair - 5. Never use this clue. Purple hair is barely used and is overall a bad clue. Sometimes if there isn't an investigator it can be used as a "oh that's obv a fake clue" but since you'd be the only purple haired person you'd immediately be framed. â˘White Shoes - 1. Yes, YES! Definitely! White shoes are something so many characters have, it excellent to use for Maisie! If you're desperate, you can try convincing people that Maisie does not wear shoes, but do that only if you're being framed hard! â˘Black Accessory - 3. Accessories aren't a very good clue idea, but if you want to use it, go ahead. There's a moderate amount of characters who have this accessory color, but Maisie's glasses are commonly seen and you'd be the suspect most likely - immediately.
Tips at the end! - Pretend like you're being framed, but don't overdo it - Don't directly frame someone - In murder island 2, there are two truths - either "People in this game are smarter than you think" or "People in this game are dumber than you think." Keep this in mind, and use it to your advantage if being framed, or use it to frame someone. - don't freak out with attempting to make yourself look innocent! People will just get suspicious!

2023.06.03 18:58 Frank_Leroux Molossus, Chapter Sixteen
First Chapter Chapter Fifteen âThank you, Ms. President, and Mr. Secretary-General. Itâs my privilege to come and speak to everyone present during such a momentous time in human history. One which, I hope, will lead to a brighter future for us allâŚâ
US President Correaâs boilerplate beginning flowed out as she scanned the room. Behind her rostrum sat a larger dais tiled with green marble, behind which sat the UN President, Secretary-General, and Under-Secretary-General. Two huge screens flanked the dais, and those screens now showed Correaâs face as she continued.
ââŚand we are committed to our countryâs pledge to finding a peaceful and just way for Coalition technology to be incorporated worldwide, and to not attempt any reverse-engineering of our own. Make no mistake; we do not do this out of any sense of altruism or fairness, as pleasant as that may sound. We will hold this pledge sacred for the simple reason that, if the United States
were to attempt such efforts the rest of the world would, without a doubt, find out. That, of course, would lead to a great instability.â
âGreat instabilityâ was diplomatic-speak for âthe rest of the world then gangs up on the USA and then everything goes to hellâ.
âI know there has already been a great deal of debate in this august hall as to the best way to proceed forward, in a fair and impartial manner. We believe that we have found what one might call a âtrial runâ which will allow us to work out such matters.â
The general murmuring from the many semi-circular rows of desks in front of her increased.
âTo begin with, during the first weeks after first contact we wanted to make sure our guests from the Coalition would not starve to death. Much like humanityâs own ships during the Age of Sail, Coalition exploration vessels store enough provisions for yearsâŚbut such provisions never last. They have very advanced recycling, but mostly for water and even that is only a stop-gap measure. It is unknown even at this time as to how long it will take to repair the
Exultant Finger of Rithro, and we did not want to risk the crew running out of food.
âTherefore, we undertook an emergency effort to have their shipâs medic examine various Earth foods to determine their compatibility with our guestsâ varied biochemistries. I am pleased to report that there are quite a few Earth foodstuffs which are indeed compatible, although there are some specific items which act as allergens amongst some of the Coalition species. During these efforts, we did learn a bit about how their alien biochemistries workâŚinformation which has been duly published and is now openly available. We also began to get glimpses of something wonderful, and asked the Coalition crew for more details. They supplied us with some general ideas of what their medical technology can accomplish; I must emphasize that we do not possess any knowledge of how they can perform such miracles.â
Now the murmuring got quite a bit higher, but not quite to the point where theyâd have to call for order.
âYes, I use the word âmiraclesâ advisedly. For example, take Captain Sadaf. You have all seen her, and how she moves like a person in the prime of their life. Now. What if I told you that she is a little over four hundred years old?â
The murmuring died down into a shocked silence.
âHer species, the auhn, is no more long-lived than we areâŚbut they are able to regenerate and remove the effects of aging. I hope the esteemed ambassadors can see what I am driving at. I propose that we set up a research institute, international in scope, to be placed at a neutral location which is still to be determined. The purpose of that institute will be to study and adapt Coalition medical technology for use in humans.â
Now the murmuring started again; she hoped they were actually listening instead of hatching side-deals with each other.
âYou all have families and friends. Iâm sure you have at least one family member, one good friend, who died of some horrible and
unnecessary affliction. Think of what this means to the world, to us. It is also an excellent way to determine the inevitable issues and frictions which will arise from such a concerted international effort, and that, in turn, will inform our efforts in mutual reverse-engineering of other Coalition technology.
âI know this is, in many ways, a frightening time. Change can be frightening. But I am convinced that you will all know the right way forward, and that you will all see the need for us to unite in this matter, even if others may not be so clear-cut. I thank you for the opportunity to speak.â
As she stepped away from the rostrum, the UN President cleared his throat.
âWe will now begin the debate on Madame President Correaâs proposal. Paper copies, with specifics of the proposal, are now being distributed to you all. Weâll now begin the debate periodâŚyes, the gentleman from PortugalâŚ?â
__________
Correaâs Chief of Staff was a shorter, tubby man with an olive complexion by the name of Pablo Rosas. He and Correa sat in a White House conference room, staring at a big screen which now showed the results of the UN vote. âWell, I suppose that went about as well as we could expect,â said Rosas.
âYep. I was surprised they even agreed with our asking them to kick in some money.â
Rosas chuckled. âKeep in mind that all of this new medical tech will be available for anyone patent-free. Should be air-tight legally, since nobody here on Earth invented it; weâre merely adapting it. I think that was the sweetener we needed to get it passed.â
The president gave a brief nod, then tapped a few keys on the controls in front of her. The screen now showed a world map. âNow we just have to figure out where to put the damn thing without everyone getting butt-mad about it.â
âHmm.â Rosas laced his fingers over his substantial gut as he regarded the map. âSomeplace not âthe usualâ, then.â
Correa growled in frustration. âI keep thinking Switzerland, but I know thereâs gonna be a lot of shit flung about that itâs too European-centric. Taiwan would be great; theyâve got both a good tech base and excellent transport infrastructure.â
âBut way too controversial, for obvious reasons,â replied Rosas. âJapan?â
âChina will, again, kick up a fuss. Huh. New Zealand?â
âThat might work. They tend to be more neutralâŚbut then again some might say theyâre in too close with Australia, and that this whole effort is too Western-centric.â His eyes flicked back to north on the map. He was about to move his gaze elsewhere, but then he paused. âWhat about Iceland?â
âIceland?â Correa almost scoffed, then looked more thoughtfully at the map. âOkay, theyâre a NATO member which is a minus. But they tend to remain mostly neutral, which is a plus. Decent transportation infrastructureâŚdonât we have a naval air base there?â
âI think so, let me checkâŚâ Rosas tapped at his phone. âHey, Jack? What can you tell me about any US naval air bases in Iceland? Just the highlights.â After a couple of minutes, he responded with a curt, âOkay, thatâs enough, thanks.â
He put his phone away. âWe kinda-sorta have one, at a place called Keflavik. The base there used to be a lot bigger during the Cold War. Then we shut it down after the Soviets were no longer a going concern. Iceland uses it now, and they allow us to fly submarine-search aircraft out of there, but a few years ago they nixed the DODâs request to rebuild it into a more permanent base.â
âThat does work in their favor. It makes for better optics if theyâre known for keeping NATO at armâs length.â
Rosas sat up. âThink the UN will go for it?â
âWe can only try. Iâll have our ambassador in Reykjavik make some discreet inquiries, letâs see if theyâd be okay with our proposing them as a candidate.â
The Chief of Staff smiled. âIf it goes through, this institute will be pumping well north of a billion dollars per year into their economy. That should make it more than âokayâ.
__________
Agent CĂŠcile Savoie sat in a secure-location breakroom, silently grumbling as she held an as-yet un-drunk mug of coffee in her hands. As the agent-in-charge of the security detail during the Camp David incident, sheâd been put on administrative leave, right alongside every other agent whoâd been there. But it wasnât like she had much down time; the inquiry board into that incident now summoned her damn near every other day for yet another round of tedious questioning.
âHey,â said Hanson as he strolled in, looking just as sour as she felt.
She looked up in surprise. âHey yourself. I thought you were assigned to the alien detail.â
âI was,â he said as he seated himself across the circular table from her. âGuess being in Alabama when the shitshow went down wasnât far enough away to be completely out of suspicion. I just finished running my own gauntlet. But the rumor is, Iâm getting it easy compared to everyone who was at Camp David, including the special forces people. Especially you.â
âYeah, itâs pretty much a colonoscopy every day,â she muttered. âGoing over the timeline, where I was at which times, who I had direct line of sight on, who I was in radio contact with.â She finally sipped her coffee.
Hansonâs sour expression deepened. âDo you really think it was one of us?â
She sighed. âIt has to be. My gut tells me that thereâs more than one mole and I told the inquiry board as much. The fuckers who got in knew too much about our patrol patterns, where everyone was, when theyâd have a clear shot at an infil. That means someone with access to our methods and comms, and as to the latter we donât use CB radios.â
The other agent leaned back. âFuck. I wish I knew why any of us would do that. Weâre supposed to be quiet professionals, not frothing radicals.â
Savoie turned the mug in her hands. âNot to tell tales out of school but, through the whisper network, theyâve been leaning hard on the captured dudes from the attack. Apparently one of their main âobjectionsâ,â and here she made some one-handed air quotes, âis that they think the whole Breaker thing is a ruse. Itâs all smoke and mirrors, so that weâll beg the Coalition to come and save us. And thenâŚwell, it gets vague after that but I guess they claim that at best weâll get turned into the galactic equivalent of a Native American reservation. Worst case, we all get harvested for our precious bodily fluids.â
Hanson stared at her for a moment in disbelief. âThat is, if you will forgive the uncouth term, utterly retarded. For chrissake, the Hubble got some beautiful shots of their ship once theyâd spun that shield around to reveal it to us. I mean, Iâm no spacecraft expert but even I could tell it had gotten the shit pounded out of it.â
She responded with a shrug. âHey, Flat Earthers are still a thing.â
âFlat Earthers donât stage FUCKING mortar attacks in our nationâs capital,â snapped Hanson. Then he subsided and spoke more softly. âSorry, I shouldnât be so on edge. This whole thing just pisses me off.â
âJoin the club,â said Savoie as she sipped more coffee. âI just donât get it, though.â
Hanson made a gentle âcontinueâ wave of his hand.
She leaned forward. âOkay. Our comrades in the CIA managed to identify the four who made it into the compound. They were all mercenaries, each with at least ten or fifteen years of experience in kicking ass around some of the worst hot spots in the world. Syria, Burma, bunch of places in Africa. One of âem even turned out to be ex-Wagner group.â
âOkay?â It was a leading single-word question, but not an unkind one.
âSo why was the rest of the attack made up of nothing but a bunch of goddamn shit-kickers? And that includes the aborted attempt in Decatur. Iâve seen the files of those we rounded up in the Camp David attack. They were all low-life idiots just banging around, maybe they might have once held a gun in their lives. Hell, from what Iâve heard, the shootings that triggered the alarm at Camp David were an accident; those intruders were supposed to sneak
around that patrol, not kill them. They all had the same top-of-the-line kit, so we know whoever is behind this has deep pockets. Why not hire an entire bunch of competent people instead of doing it onesy-twoseys?â
âIt is a puzzle.â Hanson got up and set a styrofoam cup of water into the nearby microwave. As the cup turned within its electromagnetic prison, he leaned against the nearby counter and pondered her question. âMaybe the team in the woods was intended just as a distraction?â
âThatâs what I thought at first, but then I reconsidered. I mean, what if the four who went in failed? Youâd still need a proper backup plan. Same thing with the Decatur bunch. By the way, did they ever catch them?â
Hanson let out a dark chuckle. âDecatur PD found a pile of vests and rifles, hastily wiped down. They were able to pull a few partial prints off of âem. My guess is theyâve fled to the proverbial four winds, hoping to lay low for the rest of their lives. Weâll nab âem eventually.â
The microwave dinged and he retrieved his hot water, then pulled a tea bag out of his jacket pocket as he re-seated himself.
Savoie smiled. âI never figured you for a tea guy.â
He unwrapped the bag and with a bit of ceremony dunked it into his cup. âWell, I used to be a coffee guy, but my gut doesnât agree with the acidity.â
âWe do have tea here, you know.â She pointed to the storage bins behind him.
âYeah, but itâs cheap-ass stuff. The brand I like is expensive, but worth itâŚâ Hansonâs eyes widened as he trailed off.
She raised an eyebrow. âHanson? Do you smell burnt toast?â
âThey couldnât afford it,â he said in a near-whisper.
Savoie was about to tell him to stop being overly dramatic, then she realized he might be on to something and that she didnât dare distract him. âKeep talking.â
He leaned forward, his forearms on the table. âOkay. Imagine youâre a hard-bitten mercenary. Youâve been in the literal shit, in every nasty conflict anyone cares to name. Somehow, someone finds you and comes to you. They say âhey, these aliens are bad news, do you want to kill them?â Even if you, as the hypothetical mercenary, are down with the causeâŚâ
âFrom what the intruders were yelling, they were,â said Savoie.
âYeah but even then, our mystery financier is asking you to infil and exfil out of one of the most heavily guarded pieces of real estate on the planet. Oh, and kill a bunch of special-forces-maybe and aliens-definitely in between. What do you do then?â
She replied with a grim smile. âIf Iâm that mercenary, then I ask for a metric fuck-ton of money. And there were four of them, they would have all done the same. Hell, they must have been doing collective bargaining.â
Hanson dunked his tea bag as he thought it through. âOkay, so our mystery mastermind has a lot of money, but not billions on hand to hire a literal army of hard cases. Huh. So those other dipshits might indeed have been a distraction.â
âMaybe. They must have also spent quite a bit on the mortar attack. That wasnât made by some hobbyist in their bedroom, they knew what they were doing. Given that nobody saw them set up the launcher or leave, they were more pro.â Savoie hoped that the FBIâs efforts to track the various mortar components turned up something soon. Thus far, those efforts were bogged down; as it turned out, quite a few companies had ordered the identified components, and tracking the subsequent second-hand purchases was time-consuming.
âAnd those mortar-making pros would be more expensive.â Hanson sipped a bit of tea. âDid they ever get anything off of the launcher itself?â
âSadly, no. Turns out the whole damned thing was homemade, constructed out of tubing and other off-the-shelf components. It was also wiped down thoroughly, no prints. Like I said, pros.â
âBut limited in resources,â said Hanson. âWhich explains one of the things thatâs bugged
me. Namely, that our OPFOR didnât use some proper artillery. If they have a couple of moles in the Secret Service, then it should be easy to recruit and pay some military dudes to slip âem some gear and alter the logs. They could stow a howitzer inside a semi-tractor-trailer. You could park that thing anywhere up to 25 miles away. Use a single 155mm Excalibur GPS-guided munition, boom. That would have pretty much obliterated the stage and everyone on it. Then you just re-stow the howitzer and toodle off all innocent-like, right when everyone is freaking the hell out.â
âSo they couldnât afford that type of arty strike,â she said. âOr they simply didnât have the contacts to pull that off. Hmm. I wonder if our moles are getting paid at all?â
Hanson resumed his thousand-yard stare. âThe mortar attack must have been planned first. The other two attacks feel much more like rush jobs.â
âEh? Oh, I get it. Sadafâs speech was known well in advance. It was going to be one of her first big public appearances since the initial presidential speech. They were broadcasting it online to the world. Having her get turned into chunky red salsa, in real time, would be one helluva statement. So thatâs what they focused on.â She drank a bit more coffee, and now it was time for her eyes to widen. âOur mole or moles didnât arrive at Camp David until
after Sadafâs speech was announced.â
âThatâŚoh, yeah, that makes sense. Originally the mortar attack is the OPFORsâ only focus, but yet somehow theyâve suborned one or two Secret Service agents and they have âem in their back pocket. Then one, or better yet both, of the moles gets assigned to the Camp David detail, and they realize that now that they have a golden opportunity to get at the other aliens as well. So they go off and hire four pros for the actual attack inside, plus a bunch of chucklefucks to act as a distraction, because thatâs all they can afford since the four pros are asking for some serious money.â
Savoie leaned forward. âWhen did Chao and Grakosh leave Camp David?â
âIt was, ah, three? No, four days after we got everyone settled, both the aliens and the special forces types.â
âOkay, so
then the OPFOR gets word, courtesy of our moles, that one of the aliens is now heading to Alabama. But now theyâre stretched so thin that they canât afford anything other than to hire another bunch of dipshits to make a run at them and hope for the best.â
âAnd then the second bunch lets the FNG drive.â
They both laughed, but that humor settled down as they both thought through the chain of inference.
âIt is pretty thin,â said Savoie at last. âThereâs a lot of assumptions in there.â
âYeah. But I do like the idea of our moles getting assigned at the last minute.â
She rubbed her forehead. âWe had a bunch of new people come in when they decided to stow the Rithro crew there. Seven, no eight in all.â
âItâs a place to start,â said Hanson. He finished his tea. âCâmon, letâs see if we can get a meeting with the inquiry board.â
__________
A little while later and not very far away, three people sat in a well-lit but otherwise deadly dull room. At least the chairs were somewhat comfortable. Matt and Martinez sat at two chairs against one wall, while across from them McCoy sat sprawled sideways on another with a foul look on her face. She glowered at the far beige-painted wall. âThis completely sucks. Why canât we have our phones? I could at least play some mahjong.â
âThis is a secure location, Corporal,â replied Matt. âIxnay on the onephays.â
Martinezâs leg jittered. âHow long are we gonna sit here? They said theyâd call us in, like, an hour ago!â
âDunno, itâs some kind of last-minute interview thing,â replied Matt with Zen-like calm.
The corporal looked over at Matt. âI donât get you, man.â
Matt grinned. âNobody gets me. Iâm like the wind, baby!â
âThatâs notâŚI mean, I watched you open up a dude like he was a bag of fuckinâ Doritos using nothing but a fuckinâ knife. Now youâre being all Caine from âKung Fuâ.â
âItâs good to know that the classics are still appreciated,â said Matt.
Martinez pointed at him. âIf you start calling me âGrasshopperâ I
will shoot you.â
McCoy turned her glare to the ceiling. âMaybe itâs a psychological test. They want to see if we crack under pressure and start yakking secrets.â
âI mean, Iâm sure theyâre recording us right now,â replied Matt. âBut itâs merely as a precaution. I am also five-nines certain that none of us are suspects. We werenât integrated into the compoundâs overall security, and thus it would be unlikely that we could have let our four attackers in.â
âNot to mention, we were the ones to kill âem,â added Martinez. âWell, except for the one that Takh took care of.â
âYep. This isâŚI wonât call it a formality, but the board just wants to know where you were and what you saw. Walk them through your personal timelines, understand? Tell them only what you know. If you donât know something, then say so.â
McCoy turned herself around so that she now sprawled the other way. âThis whole bullshit just bugs me. Takh and the others are off with a bunch of strangers and IâŚI mean, we aren't there to help protect them.â
Matt and Martinez shared a meaningful glance. âFrom what I heard, Takh is quite capable of taking care of himself,â said the latter with a grin. âYou told me he pitched that one dude across the room like he was throwing a softball.â
For once, the petite corporal looked a bit flustered. âYeah, but, I mean, what if some other potential bad guy gets the drop on him with a gun? I donât like not being there. I just wanna know that heâs okay. I should be there, just to make sure.â
The smaller man snapped his fingers in the face of the taller, who sighed and took out his wallet. With great ceremony, Matt pulled out a five-dollar bill and placed it upon the now-upraised palm of Martinez.
âTold ya,â said Martinez with a grin.
She sat up and glared at them both. âThat doesnât mean anything! Takh is a good guy!â
âNobody said he wasnât,â replied Matt as he stowed his wallet. âHe is indeed a good guy.â
âYeah, seriously, weâre glad you two hooked up,â added Martinez. âTakhâs solid. Hell, Iâd let him date my sister.â
âI. Am. Not. Hooked Up. With ANYONE.â McCoy now looked furious enough to chew nails.
Martinez stroked his chin. âKissing might be a problem, though.â
Matt performed a similar chin-stroking action. âHmm, indeed, Corporal, I do believe it might be a serious issue. One has all of those mandibles to contend with.â He hooked his fingers next to his mouth in an approximation of an udhyrâs face. âStill, I think that, with enough will and effort, one could figure it out. Like the man said, life finds a way.â
âBut how much tongue is he packing?â posed Martinez. âYou know what the man also says. Big dude, big tongue. Could make things more interesting, all around.â
The woman did not look amused. âMartinez, Toke? You are now both officially gigantic flatulating assholes.â
âCâmon, McCoy!â protested Martinez. âThink of it this way. A few years from now, letâs say we filthy humans are now part of the Coalition and Iâm at some meet ân greet, and I just so happen to spy me an oh-so-very-fiiine udhyr mamacita from across the room. Now, I wanna do my bit for my species and approach her, and get some good old inter-species cultural interaction going on. But thereâs all sorts of questions. How do I compliment her without insulting her culture? How am I supposed to get in good with her? How do the mechanics work? How do the various bits line up? We need details! Youâre at the tip of the spear, we all need good intel!â
McCoy slumped back into her seat. âOver seven hundred billion Dimmadollars of defense spending, and yet somehow I wind up stuck in a room with you two fuckosâŚoh, by the way,
Toke,â she added, pointing a finger at Matt, âwhy the hell can you and Sarge never go back to Okinawa?â
âNice distraction, McCoy,â said Martinez. âMy guess is some sort of wet-work shit.â
Matt just smiled. âOh for fuckâs sake, I donât kill
everyone I meet. I was a Second LT at the time, managed to somehow leapfrog my way into officer ranks all the way from enlisted. Anyways, the Okinawa affair was merely a case of, well, one particular case of rye whiskey. The good sergeantâŚwas he a sergeant then? Oh yeah, we had done some other stuff I canât tell you about in someplace I canât tell you where, and we were celebrating Shaw getting his third stripe. Weâd got ahold of the previously-mentioned case of whiskey and then we began toasting to each otherâs good health. We did a lot of toasting.
Quite a lot of toasting. As you can imagine, the toasting went on and on until we, um, well we did some unwise things. It started out with us sparring-for-fun with each other in public and escalated from there. No locals were harmed, and nothing we did was hella illegal, or I wouldâve never made Captain. Buuut the local government would definitely throw a shitfit if me or, God forbid, both of us set foot back on the island.â He chuckled. âHell, the Okinawan customs people probably still have both of our pictures taped up inside their booths with a big old sign saying âDO NOT ADMIT THIS PERSON, YOU FOOLâ written above them.â
âWhat did you do?â asked Martinez. His eyes were big and soulful, like a kid asking for yet one more story before bedtime.
Matt shrugged. âI mean, I donât remember much for obvious reasons. Iâm almost sure we didnât piss on any monuments, that would have definitely been cause for a serious demotion. We did do a number on some shrubbery, that I do remember. We decided it needed to be trimmed back, and so we did so. Using our bare hands. Seemed like a good idea at the time.â
A fearsome light came into McCoyâs eyes. âMartinez, do you know what this means?â
He looked at her all uncertain. âUm, Toke and Sarge have cast-iron livers?â
âNo, you fool.
Blackmail material.â
Matt pointed back at her. âHey, now, I told you that in confidence. Besides, Shaw has a lot more to contend with right now.â
The reminder of the sergeantâs current crippled state brought the elevated atmosphere of the room back down. McCoy nodded as her smile faded. âRight. Hey, did you see the Prezâs speech at the UN?â
âYep,â said Matt. âFrom what Iâve read, the political wrangling after it seems pretty tame compared to the usual.â
Martinez snorted. âNo shit. Did either of you see the laundry list of shit that we might be able to do? Anti-aging, limb regrowth, cancer treatments which work well and which
donât half-kill the patientâŚhell, maybe even Alzheimerâs could be in our rear-view mirror. The grand high muckity-mucks are falling all over themselves to get that out into the world, for themselves if nobody else.â
âYouâre way too cynical, Martinez,â said Matt.
âOh fuck off. What ifâŚokay, I know this sounds like a cheesy sci-fi concept, but what if they hoard all of the good shit for themselves and we peons get just the crumbs?â
Matt lapsed back into his meditative demeanor. âIn that case, my dear corporal, you or I or McCoy or someone like us will show those hypothetical elites that, while they are indeed long-lived, they are not in fact immortal.â
The trio fell into silence for a few minutes. Then Martinez leaned over towards Matt. âAh, a little birdie told me you were involved in questioning the prisoners we nabbed at Camp David.â
âI merely facilitated certain conversations,â replied Matt.
Martinez sighed. âWhat the fuck does that mean?â
âAsk me no questions and I will tell you no liesâŚCorporal.â
McCoy let out a growl. âWell,
I heard these terrorist assholes are saying that the Breakers arenât real, that itâs all fake videos from the Coalition.â
âJust to play devilâs advocate,â said Matt, âour AI image and video generation is already getting to the point where, soon, we puny humans could manufacture such evidence.â
âWhat?â Martinez looked as if he was about to launch himself at Matt.
Matt held up a calming hand. âIâm not saying it
is fake. The Hubble pics are damned convincing.â
Martinez hiked up one foot to place it on his seat, then rested his chin on his knee. âFuck. I guess it didnât convince everyone.â He mused for a few moments. âWait. What if we made it even more convincing?â
âHow?â asked Matt.
âWe send some humans up to the
Rithro. Two or three at least. The boats can still make it up to the ship, right?â
For once Matt looked uncertain. âI think so? Dunno how many times they can come and go without recharging, weâll have to ask âem.â
âRight, so we set up an even better publicity stunt than the Hubble pics. Choose a few people, from all over the world. We have âem travel up to the
Rithro, take pics and video up close showing the damage. Even take âem inside the ship and get a full tour, maybeâŚif the crew is okay with that, of course.â
âHuh.â Matt sat back and pondered the idea. âThatâs a really good idea, Martinez. I guess you arenât as dumb as you look.â
The corporal responded with a slight smile at the verbal jab. âWeâd need to choose the right people, though.â
âTheyâd have to be trustworthyâŚor at least someone that the entire world will consider trustworthy,â said Matt.
âWell known,â added McCoy. She no longer looked vengeful. âWith recognizable faces and voices, and then they can go on all the talk shows after and say that, yes indeed, I got a tour of the ship and it is indeed quite banged up.â
Martinez stared at the far wall. âSome kind of celebrity? Heh. You think Tom Cruise would be up for it?â
Matt laughed. âThat beautiful maniac? Hell, heâd insist on shooting an entire movie up there, with at least one action scene where heâs hanging off of the outside of the ship.â
They all smiled at the resulting mental image.
âChao could work,â said McCoy into the silence. âSheâs kind of a celebrity now. After all, she was the first human to come into contact with aliens, eh?â She gave Matt a big and very un-subtle wink.
To skirt the ratherâŚunconventional methods used to achieve a positive First Contact, Mattâs role had been very much demoted in the official story. Now every recounting of the tale included a bit of ââŚoh, and there was also another person who stumbled across our brave woman in the midst of her attempts at informational exchange with the aliensâŚâ His exact identity was also not published, under the screen of âhe wishes to remain anonymousâ.
âOh bite me, McCoy, itâs fun,â replied Matt. He waggled his eyebrows. âBesides, I work better in the shadows!â He threw his forearm across his face like a half-assed Count Dracula trying to hide behind his cape.
Then he dropped his arm. âYeah, Chao would be good as a current social-media darling. Of course, she might not want that. She strikes me as more of the wallflower type, for the most part.â
âWe need more people,â said Martinez, as he stared at the floor. âChao might be good on her own, but sheâs got that motor-mouth talking thing when you get her going. Itâs one or the other. Either sheâs trying to shrink into a corner and take up as little space as possible, or suddenly youâre getting pulled into another corner for a doctoral dissertation on how minimal-energy transfer-orbits work.â
Matt pondered for a moment. âWait, when did she do that? I never sat through one of those lectures.â
Martinez looked away andâŚwell, Matt hoped that their supposed overlords were indeed recording this particular moment in time because the hard-bitten Hispanic special-forces corporal actually
blushed.
McCoy, of course, realized a golden opportunity for payback and immediately pounced. âWhy,
Corporal Martinez,â she purred. âDoooo tell us. When did Chao Me Chu, heh,
pull you into a corner? Hmmm?â
âSheâsâŚsheâs just real nice, thatâs all,â replied Martinez. âI asked her a couple of questions, and she answered them. Thatâs all. We both love classic sci-fi, like Asimov and shit. I guess we bonded over that.â
Matt cleared his throat. âAaaaand may I remind you two
and everyone listening in that we have all been cooped up nuts-to-butts for awhile? Donât mistake familiarity for romantic bullshit.â He pointed over at Martinez. âBut you. If you can follow at least half of what she talks about, then you are absolutely without-a-single-fucking-doubt
wasted as a corporal, even if youâre in a low-drag high-speed outfit like this. You hear me?â
âUm, yes sir.â It was the first time in McCoyâs memory that anyone had addressed Matt as befitting his perhaps-former rank.
âGood. You get your ass into college, somehow. Youâre a smart guy, youâll figure all that shit out. And as for Chao? Just give it room to breathe. Let her know youâre interested, but donât press the matter.â
âLet her know?â For once Martinez looked completely lost. âHow do IâŚâ he trailed off. âI mean, I like herâŚand yeah, I mean I like her in
that way, but sheâs so damn smart and pretty and Iâm just some dipshit meathead.â
âHey, donât sell yourself short,â said Matt. âYouâre
our dipshit meathead.â
McCoyâs vengeful smile faded. âMartinezâŚno, Luca.â
Martinez looked up in surprise at her use of his first name.
She continued. âJust talk to her. Neither of you have any clue as to what ânormalâ social interactions look like. In your case, itâs because youâve been a soldier for all of your adult life. In her case, itâs because sheâs, well, because sheâs Chao. So just walk up to her and be straightforward. Trust me, itâll be like a breath of fresh air for her to not have to navigate social cues. Just say something like âHey, I really like you, do you like me and do you want to go get a coffee sometimeâ? Start with that. Chaoâs good people, the worst thing sheâll do is say no. She wonât yell at you or talk shit about you online. Buuuut, some sixth sense is telling me she wonât say no to getting some coffee with ya.â
Matt smiled. âMcCoy, I think you might have a calling after you leave the military.â
She snorted. âOh yeah, Iâll hang up my match-making shingle on the internet and start raking in the big bucks. Martinez is right, though. If we try to do a publicity stunt up at the
Rithro, then weâll need somebody alongside Chao to win the world over. Somebody well-known, but preferably someone not in the traditional Western pop-culture sphere. Thatâll make it more palatableâŚâ
Her voice trailed off and she stared into space. The two men now looked at each other in genuine concern until she spoke again a few moments later.
âGuys? I think I just had the best idea ever.â

2023.06.03 18:36 GeeDii_ First Time Watch Through of Survivor The Amazon - My Thoughts
Huh? What do you mean it took me over 5 months to finish this season because of the stresses of college and Survivor 44 airing?... No clue what you're talking about!
Hello again! I am back after 5 months, and have finally finished The Amazon! Real quick, just in case you're not familiar with my posts, I started watching Survivor during HvHH (S35), and I always wanted to go back and watch the other seasons. I'm going in order, if you couldn't tell. I already knew the winner going into this season, but I wish I didn't! It would have been a lot more intense haha. Before I begin, I just want to post my ratings of the first five seasons I watched. Unfortunately I watched them a while ago, so I'm not too sure what I really thought about them back then. Gonna just have to trust in my ratings from back then!
Here are my favorite seasons so far, in order.
- The Australian Outback (S2) - 7.5/10
- Borneo (S1) - 7/10
- Marquesas (S4) - 6.5/10
- Africa (S3) - 6.5/10
- Thailand (S5) - 5.5/10
Alright, now to get onto The Amazon, which I can say for certain is probably my favorite season of the first six! I thought that the gameplay was the most advanced, and there was a lot more strategy than every before. I never realized how revolutionary Rob's gameplay was, in that he was kind of the first one who always had a plan for everything, and didn't care if he backstabbed or hurt people. He was clearly the most prepared in terms of the social game aspect of things.
Since I'm on the subject of contestants now, I might as well quickly talk about them! There were so many amazing people on this season! I won't talk too in depth, but I felt like this cast was comprised full of people who really knew this game, and wanted to play it hard. There were also just so many really nice and enjoyable people this season. Rob, Matthew, Butch, Jeanne, CHRISTY and Jenna were probably my favorites throughout.
So, I was taking very brief notes throughout the season. Just kinda documenting my thoughts about certain things. Now, the problem is, I forgot to write down what episode it was from, nor any specific details. So this is going to just be me trying to remember the context behind the things I wrote.
If you want to skip to the end to see my final thoughts/ratings, you may do so now. There is going to be a loooooot. In the future I'm definitely going to pick and choose what I want to write about. But I'm writing this part after the fact, so the deed has already been done.
----------------------
- "Alex is our LGBTQ+ ally ICON. THIS IS 2003?"
- Yes, this was my first note. I was very happy to hear how Alex was standing up for that stuff against... Roger I think it was? I began to like him a lot once this happened, although it leveled out later on.
- "Christy my Queen."
- This was the beginning of my love for Christy. I literally don't even remember what she said or did to prompt me to write this. I just had to write it.
- "Matthew speaking Mandarin was cool."
- I remember this! Seeing him speaking Mandarin to Dan was really cool. Not much more to say about it!
- "This show was very.... suggestive..."
- Yea this show was really eager to just sexualize literally everyone they could back then. I was shocked at how nonchalant the show and Jeff would be about those topics.
- "Never realized how amazing Rob was."
- Yea this was pretty early on in the season, but I remember thinking how great Rob was at survivor. I listen to his podcasts all the time, but I didn't realize he was THAT big of a player on the season. Like, he was GOOD good.
- "Dan didn't deserve this.."
- He wasn't one of my favorites, but he deserved better than what he got.
- "Butch... You have my heart..."
- My opinion on Butch definitely levels out as time went on, but I loved him early in the season.
- "That meat mouth challenge... was so disgusting.."
- Yea I would love to meet the person who came up with that challenge. That was so gross. Multiple diseases waiting to happen.
- "Yup, Roger is definitely going home. Mhm!"
- Okay I wrote this down cause everyone was talking about how they wanted Roger out, but in my new era brain, I was like, theres no way! It's too obvious! It appears I was wrong, as he did indeed.... get voted out...
- "I love dual confessionals."
- Enough said. I think it's cool when multiple people are doing one confessional. It's neat.
- "That was really cool with Deena vs. Alex on Day 26"
- One of the many cool battles and blindsides that this season had. I remember being conflicted on how I felt, but eh. Guess Deena should have eaten that grub haha.
- "Athletics and Intelligence"
- Okay when Jeff responded with "Which One?," I was literally rolling on the floor. Where is this savage Jeff in these new seasons?
- "No but tell me why I'm rooting for Christy, Matt and Butch"
- Yea I was hard rooting for the misfits. Didn't really vibe with the popular kids.
- "That Alex blindside was the most new era thing I've seen so far."
- This really reminded me of a vote out we would see in a new era season! Was Rob the one who pioneered this style of vote out?
- "I love Christy I love Christy I love Christy"
- Oh hey it's this again... Yea I think this explains itself.
- "I don't know why people dwell on the negative - Rob"
- Okay this was really funny. He just backstabs everyone and then says this. Really funny. That big fight at camp as a result of this was really entertaining too.
- "WHY WAS THAT SHUFFLEBOARD SO INTENSE???"
- That was the most intense game of shuffleboard I've ever seen. I really thought Rob would win with 2 pucks.
- "Oh wow Jenna really just did that... wAIT NO CHRISTY NONONONONO"
- Yea I was not happy with Rob for this one. How dare he..
- "Rob just did to Jenna and Heidi what Alex did to him in the final 4 deal"
- He became what he hated the most. He just said to their faces that he wouldn't choose them to go to the end. Yikes.
- "So... did Butch just go insane?"
- My man was running around getting wood and dancing like a crazy person. Foreshadowing his arson.
- "Good lord Matthew was kinda a challenge beast, huh?"
- Yea Matthew just crushed everything. Like wow he was insane at challenges.
- "THEIR CAMP BURNED DOWN???? WHAT????? WHERE WAS THE FIRETRUCK!?!?"
- I was NOT expecting this. Butch was the real pyromaniac all along...
- "That Earth, Wind, Fire and Water maze was sick!"
- That was a really cool challenge. I miss cool unique challenges like this....
- "Wow Jenna really just saved herself with that"
- After seeing how she played in the end game, she definitely deserved her win. She won when she had to!
- "RIP Rob. You were amazing"
- He is definitely the best player I've seen so far in the older seasons I've been watching. He was really really great. So impressive.
- "I love when they do the montage of all the contestants!"
- They really should have kept this. It always gives me chills seeing everyone again. It really reminds you of the great characters and stories there were in this season!
- "Lowkey felt like Matt had the better Final Tribal.."
- I thought Jenna could have done better here. It just kind of seemed like Matt was giving the answers the jury wanted more than Jenna was.
- "No but why did I get emotional when Jeff was staring into the audience while they were cheering and clapping"
- He just looked so happy and proud of what he had done. That smile on his face seemed so genuine.
- "I'm shocked. it was a 6-1 vote"
- I really thought Matt would get AT LEAST 2 votes. Maybe even 3. Guess not!
----------------------
Okay that was really really long... I apologize... I just really liked this season.
Overall, I have to say that this was my favorite season so far. The tribal dynamics were top tier, and all of the characters had their place. I really liked all of them. I LOVED the setting for this one, especially with how it was raining like all the time. Really makes you wish they still went to different exotic locations....
The challenges were great and suspensive, although I think I liked the actual sets more in previous seasons. This was the most competitive season, but that could have been a given with Rob alone. He really evolved the game of Survivor, and changed what this game COULD be.
I would give the pre-merge a 7/10, and the post-merge a 9/10. That brings this season to an 8/10 technicalllyyyyyy. Buuuuut I liked it too much, so I'm gonna give it an 8.5/10 instead! Jenna was a decent winner, though definitely not one of my favorites. Great season!
And with that.... I am on to Season 7... The Pearl Islands.... I've heard that there is a certain Queen in this season, as well as a whole slew of iconic castaways. I am veeeeeerry excited to watch this one!
Alright, see you all in another 5 months! đ

"Whoa!" As Doctor Neo Cortex was building an army of mutants to conquer the world with, he needed a general. One particular experiment caught his eye, a bandicoot that he would give the name
Crashworth Cortex the First. But when it came time to brainwash the marsupial into being a leader, the machine malfunctioned, the bandicoot rejected. Escaping from his creator's clutches, Crash woke up on a beach on a nearby island, immediately setting off to rescue the similarly mutated Tawna. While he would lose contact with Tawna and instead spend his time with his sister Coco, Crash would constantly find himself butting heads with Cortex and his schemes. While he may not be the smartest, his determined athleticism ensured he would find all the crystals, gems, or any other object needed to stop any schemes of world domination.

2023.06.03 16:53 mhanrahan Trip Report: Easter Island
Easter Island (Rapa Nui) was truly one of the most amazing places I've ever visited and I would love to go back there someday - 5 days was not enough.
There is a process to get to Easter Island, although fairly simple. Here are a few things to know ahead of time:
It's a 5-hour direct flight from Santiago, Chile.
You have to fill out the online
Formulario de Ingreso a Rapa Nui (Rapa Nui Entry Form) (IRN). I printed the form out after submitting it, although this turned out to not be necessary. You go through a special line at the airport in Santiago and they look up your passport in their database - they know if you have submitted the form.
https://ingresorapanui.interior.gob.cl/ You have to have reserved accommodations that are registered with the National Tourism Service (SERNATUR). This was stated very clearly with the AirBnB that I booked.
You have to have an official guide to visit any of the archaeological sites that are within the National Park, which is about half of the island. It's best to buy an entry ticket for the National Park ahead of time (about US $80), which can be done online:
https://www.rapanuinationalpark.com/pages/compra-de-tickets Print out the ticket and always have it with you. There are entry stations at each of the major archaeological sites and they will stamp it there.
Hanga Roa is the only town, its small but there are lots of shops and restaurants, a good place to buy souvenirs. Internet is extremely limited throughout the island, but there is a little cafĂŠ on the main street that has great wi-fi. It's called La creperia Rapa Nui, the food and service are great, and the tropical juices are so refreshing in the hot weather.
Some of the top sites to see:
Orongo: old ceremonial site where the bird man contest took place each year to choose a new leader. It is located on a high cliff, right next to the Rano Kau volcanic crater. A small trail runs around the top of the crater.
Rano Raraku: a spectacular quarry where all of the moais (the carved heads) were carved, then transported around the island. There is a 2-kilometer trail that winds through the quarry, past lots of partially carved moais. You really appreciate having a guide here because every moai has its own story.
One thing I didn't know before I got there: there are more than 800 moais that form a circle around the island. ALL OF THEM were knocked over about 300 years ago during a period of inter-tribal warfare. The ones you see in photos have been restored by archaeologists in the past 50 years.
Tongariki: this is the largest restored platform, with 15 moais. It is an amazing place to watch the sunrise. You need a guide with transportation, because it is about 15 kilometers outside of Hanga Roa. My guide threw a bicycle in the back of her pickup and I rode the 15 kilometers back to town after sunrise, past big herds of horses and lots of old fallen moais and platforms along the coast.
Anakena: on the northern coast of the island, this is the beach where the Rapanui people first landed 1,000 years ago. It is spectacular, with a large platform that has 4 moais. There are also several small restaurants, the best ceviche I've ever had anywhere in the world.
Tahai: just north of Hanga Roa, easy walking distance. A platform with 5 moais and a single one by itself, this is the place to watch the amazing sunsets.
There is an excellent guidebook that is available on the island in both English and Spanish. A Companion to Easter Island, by James Grant-Peterkin.
The Rapanui people are very warm and friendly, although not many people speak English. The island is part of Chile, so everybody speaks Spanish and about half the people speak the Polynesian language of Rapa Nui. Two important words in Rapa Nui will be greatly appreciated:
Iorana: hello, goodbye, how are you? good morning - this is the Easter Island equivalent of aloha.
MÄuru-uru: thank you

To everyone else in late-80s/early-90s San Dimas, California, Wyld Stallyns may look like the impossible dream of two slackers with no skill in anything else. But in truth, the music of Wyld Stallyns is so bodacious, so non-heinous, so excellent that it brings about an era of prosperity, both across the earth and to the stars beyond, and technological advancement so advanced that even time can be accessed as freely as a 10-digit phone number from the nearest payphone. Because of this, agents from the future utopia have sent back a time-travelling phone booth as well as information about the future to make sure that Bill and Ted are able to continue having most excellent adventures and fulfill the destiny of Wyld Stallyns.

The Time Booth
Time Travel
- A time machine that can travel to any place and time on earth after dialing a specific number. The number for each time and place is listed in an attached directory which catalogues most important points in history. EA
- It is stressed multiple times throughout the series that even while time travelling, the clock in San Dimas is running, so Bill and Ted still have a limited amount of time to accomplish their goals while time travelling. EA This isn't well supported by other events and usages of the booth in the series, but it is a consistent concern regardless.
- Bill and Ted can use the Phone Booth to interact with themselves in the past, giving themselves needed equipment or advice. EA
- Allow Bill and Ted to leave and then return to the exact same point in time, with 16 months of training in between. BJ
- A trip through spacetime can be cut short and will cause the booth to reappear at a median point. CS1E2
- A trip can also be reversed, allowing the booth to return to from where it just came. CS1E9
- A trip can be rerouted mid-stream without too much issue. CS1E10
- While this is not usually the case, as most time travel trips result in loops, drastically changing past events can lead to alternate present timelines. CS2E5
- Time travel 2 seconds into the future to catch an evil robot off guard. BV1#3
- Falling into the wormhole behind the phone booth can let someone travel through the circuits of time with it. EA
- Able to travel and be gone in the time it takes for a killer robot to aim and fire a vaporization beam. FtM
- Can travel to a point in time and space selected by an actual phone number in use at the time. CS1E8
- Can travel to a different point in space without changing time. CS2E8
- Elizabeth and Joanna apparently use the booth to travel to alternate timelines, though this mostly happens off screen. FtM
- Can travel to alternate dimensions entirely. M#10
- Travels to heaven. M#11
- Teleports from heaven to the earthly timeline, all the way to the Boomerang Nebula, and back in a matter of seconds. BV2#4
- Using the infinity button, allows the occupants to be multiplied infinitely to interact with all points in space and time simultaneously. FtM
- The booth can't travel if all of the circuits of time are currently occupied. CS2E5
- Travelers through the circuits of time can see other travelers in the same area. M#2
- The booth can seemingly track individuals in a specific time frame as shown by the fact that the future Bill and Ted were able to trick Bill and Ted into thinking they were rich and successful by being in the right place at the right time. FtM
- Rufus gives Bill and Ted a new booth that can trace the calls of other booths, though it tends to show up a little late. Also it's a rotary phone. M#2
- Rufus gives Bill a mobile phone which can call back the booth with the correct number. The first time its used however, it calls Doc Brown's Delorean instead. EHA92
- When Ted uses a magazine to try and fix the antennae Bill and Ted end up going inside of the world of the magazine by accident. LAE1

2023.06.03 15:20 Jakimcikas First time japan travel report 04.25-05.17
Alrighty, I'll describe my first time travel in japan, what went well, what didn't go well, my overall impression of Japan. We travelled trough quite a few cities, but I'll try to keep it as short as possible as I'm not much of writer. And we've visited quite a few places, so if you'd like more details, comment and I'll go more in-depth :).
A bit about the travelling party. Me(25M) and a work colleague(26M), Lithuanians(Europe) software engineers, reasonably fit and somewhat fluent in english, Omnivores(my colleague is allergic to cheese), our height is around Âą185cm.
TL;DR
Cities/islands visited
Tokyo(Shinjuku) -> Osaka -> Nara -> Kyoto -> Onomichi Islands -> Matsuyama -> Hiroshima -> Miyajima -> Kumamoto -> Aso(region) -> Fukuoka -> Nagasaki -> Nagoya -> Takayama -> Magome -> Matsumoto - > Tokyo(Chuo) -> Tokyo(Shibuya) -> Tokyo(Teito) -> Hakone.
Expenses
I was slightly more conservative with my spending so my expenses are on the cheaper side, my colleague spent quite a bit more, especially on food and booze.
Total amount spent: slightly more than 3k euros in japan + 1.1k euros flights back and forth.
EDIT:
Daily food expenses: 30-40 eur or 5k-7k yen. Daily food expenses: 3k-4k Daily travel fares(bus, metro), museums and other activities: 1k-3k
Average hotel stay: ~60euro
Food: - Breakfast - usually something from a convenience store. Chicken, power gels, chocolate, melon bread(my favourite), - Lunch - something from a convenience store or a restaurant - Dinner - restaurant usually a ramen place
Activities
Museums, castles, shrines, forests, mountains, walks around the city. We did a lot of walking, total around 400km of walking(at leasts that's what google fit shows)
Alright that's a brief summary, now for the more in-depth write up.
My key takeaways
- Japan is a very safe country, I felt safe everywhere, even in the shady parts of Tokyo.
- People are very polite, they'll go out of their way to help you, even if they don't speak english.
- People are very quiet, you won't hear people talking on the phone, or talking loudly in public transport.
- Be polite, if you don't understand or thing that this is not how it should be, don't be rude, just accept it and move on. You are an alien in their country, not the other way around. So please don't ever raise your voice, japanese people are not malicious, they'll try to help you, but they might not understand you.
- If you want to feel appreciated, learn at least the basics on japanese, it's not that hard, and it'll make your life easier. I did it through doulingo, reached unit 14 in a month and that was sufficient to have very simple conversation.
This is it for the TL;DR part. I'll go more in-depth for the rest of the post.
Planning for the trip
We started planning the trip, where we'll go, where we'll stay, what we'll do, expenses, trains, all that you can plan was started to be planned around a month prior to the trip. We created a word doc as our itinerary, that was around 60 pages long. From what I've read on this page about you can't plan everything. Well I believe we did, we might've even over planned :D.
So we booked the following hotels: - Tokyo - Apa Hotel Higashi Shinjuku Kabukicho Tower(04.25-04.26) - Osaka - APA Hotel Namba Kita Shinsaibashi Ekimae(04.26-04.30) - Onomichi island - TOMARIGI Hostel(04.30-05.01) - Matsuyama - Hotel Patio Dogo(05.01-05.02) - Hiroshima - Wholeearth Ryokan Hiroshima(05.02-05.04) - Kumamoto - Hotel Wing International Select Kumamoto(05.04-05.08) - Nagoya - Sotetsu Fresa Inn Nagoya Shinkansenguchi(05.08-05.10) - Magoame - Magomechaya(05.10-05.11) - Matsumoto - Hotel M Matsumoto(05.11-05.12) - Tokyo - APA Hotel Ginza Kyobashi Tokyo Station Yaesu South Gate(05.14-05.17)
Extra things we bought in advance: - Water proof bags - Hiking boots and socks - Bigger backpacks - JP Rail pass, we booked the trains in advance, but honestly that wasn't necessary even during golden week - Bandages for foot blisters, medicine(for headaches, motion sickness, diarrhoea). - Ubigi eSim internet(10GB was plenty for me throughout the trip) - Sun screen(did not use and got sunburned to a point where I was shinning red) - Portable battery
The trip
Day 1(04.25)
We arrived at the Haneda aiport, exchanged some cash to yen(was at a better course than locally), printed out our JR passes(
IMPORTANT TO DO SO HERE, only major stations let you print it out) and went to the metro. We took the train to Shinjuku, and walked to our hotel to check-in. We were quite tired, bought some chicken from lawson and went to explore a few places, a few drinks in golden gai district and ramen in a nearby place. Eventually we ended up at rock bar mother. Really cool place, for each drink you can request 2 songs to be played. After that back to hotel, visit the top floor onsen and sleep
Day 2(04.26)
Got up early, travelled to osaka. Left our luggage in the hotel, we were too early for a check in. We went to see Osaka castle(quite beautiful), tried takoyaki there. More city exploring, then we went check-in. After that we went to see the Umeda Sky Building in the evening(we bought the ticket in advance) very beautiful, it was very clear and beautiful. Got back to the city, got some ramen, went to the hotel and sleep.
Day 3(04.27)
Went to USJ, bought tickets(basic, no express stuff) in advance. We went there 30minutes before opening, and there was already a huge line. We went to Nintendo first, the zone looked very nice, but ride it'd say was okay'ish for me. After that the dinosaur rides, minion land, grabbed chinese food for lunch, went to the harry potter zone, at this point the lines got quite long around 1h to 1h 30min of wait time. After that we went to see Water world where they were doing a play, was really awesome, I'd say a must see even if you don't understand Japanese, the acting is very good. After that we went to Osaka aquarium(no lines, thank god), it was beautiful, cute chonks and other sea creatures.
Day 4(04.28)
Trip to Kyoto from Osaka. We went early by metro, to see the bamboo forest(7:40'ish), beautiful, few people. Walked around the park then climbed the mount a fed the monkeys(50 yen for a bag of fruits or nuts), very cute, tried petting the hand of one, didn't go well got an aggressive show of teeth. After that we visited Ryoanji temple, went to nishi market, we we're running a bit late so we took a taxi to Kiyomizudera, we saw the geish district on our way to there, looked interesting. After the temple we went to a bar and got back to Osaka and then after a bowl of ramen to our hotel.
Day 5(04.29)
We went to Nara, took this hiking
track saw the deer, bought some food, did the whole bow thing then fed them. One thing to keep in mind is to crumble the cookie and give it in small pieces, otherwise you'll run out of food to give quickly. They might be very "assertive" and try to take it from you, don't be afraid, just stick your empty arm out to get some distance and that's it . They're not gonna bite you. After that we went to see the Todaiji temple, it was beautiful, the buddha statue was huge. Got back to Osaka, got some ramen, went to the hotel, scheduled to send our luggage to our next hotel and went to sleep.
Day 6(04.30)
Got up early, went to Onomichi, rented some bikes and began our cycling journey through the islands. A lot of cool bridges, very beautiful nature. We cycled to north Omishima port, where we transfered to rabbit island pet and fed the rabbits, got back and cycled to our ryokan and straight to sleeping.
Day 7(05.01)
More cycling, more cool bridges, more beautiful nature. We arrived at Imabari, returned our bikes and took the train to Matsuyama. We ate some stree food, relaxed in the open hot springs for feet. Walked around and went to sleep. To be honest I'd say this was the favorite city of the whole trip for me. I liked the vibe, the people, the food, the nature, the onsen, the layout, the architecture. In general, beautiful city.
Day 8(05.02)
Early in the morning visited a public onsen nearby, then went to see the Matsuyama castle, it was beautiful, tried the orange juice there, it was really good, got back to our hotels, got some dango. Packed our stuff, got a taxi and went to the port and took the ferry to Hiroshima. Checked in the ryokan. Took a train to Hiroshima city center, visited the castle and then the nuclear museum. Get the english audio for best experience. It took me around 2hours to walk through everything, read it and take it in. It was very nerve racking, but I'd say a must see. After that we went out to eat some Okonomiyaki, it was delicious, then back to the ryokan and sleep.
Day 9(05.03)
Went to Miyajima island first by train then transfer by ferry. It was very beautiful, the mountain hike was also fun, the view on top was amazing. When we came down from the mountain there was a low tide, so we could go near the Itsukushima shrine. Got back to Hiroshima, went to the city center for a couple of beers, got back to Ryokan and went to sleep.
Day 10(05.04)
First day of the Golden week, wouldn't say that I've noticed anything different, maybe because we were travelling to the far south of Japan - Kumamoto. This is one of those cities that I also enjoyed more than the big common ones, it looked very nice, had a beautiful castle, was not crowded as Hiroshima, Osaka or Tokyo. We rented out bikes, cycled to Honmoji park(the place near Honmoji park is god damn maze, keep you google maps always open or you will get lost) found a place to eat, visited Lafcadio Hearn House and went to our hotel and then to sleep.
Day 11(05.05)
We rentend a car and went to Aso, highly recommend renting a car here, since the public transport is not that good. The drive was very nice, we went to see active volcano crater, luckily it was not erupting, so we were allowed to get close. Then we went around and climbed the other inactive mountain caps. Climbing that was one of the most fun hikes I've had. It was very windy, you could barely see past 5 meters anywhere, because of the fog. There was no smell of sulfur, so it was safe. We visited Mt. Nakadake, Mt. Takadake, overall the place looked like Mordor, the vibes, the weather everything. After that we visited Ayugaeno Falls, the ravines and everything was just majectic. After that we got back to Kumamoto, gave back the car and went somewhere to eat. Car rental cost around ~7k yen in total. So I'd say a good price. After eating, we went to our hotel and then to sleep.
Day 12(05.06)
We went to Fukuoka, by train, walked around the city, visited Tochoji temple, Fukuoka castle ruins, Ohori park and explored the huge ravine type shopping mall. Went to the science museum(big mistake, it's for kids...). After that we tried Ichiran ramen(originated in Fukuoka so we thought it be better). Was the same as everywhere else. It was rainy so we got back pretty early to our hotel and went to sleep.
Day 13(05.07)
We went to Nagasaki, by train, visited the atomic bomb museum, it was very interesting, just as good as the one in Hiroshima. We took a boat ride to see Gunkanjima, though we couldn't get on the island, because of the weather, it was still very interesting to see and hear the history of the island. Explored the Dutch district, walked around the shops, tried some whale meat. It was raining the whole day, so we also got back quite early and went to sleep.
Day 14(05.08)
We got up early and went got straight to the train station, and caught the train to Nagoya. The longest train ride by far. We arrived at Nagoya, checked in our hotel, went to the city center, visited the castle, it was very beautiful, then we wanted to explore the abandoned tunnel near Aichi. Apparently it was closed, we decided we're going to enter through the exit, like rascals, but apparently after we circled around there was a police officer that was guarding traffic through the bridge and wouldn't let us through. So our trip ended there. After comming back to Nagoya we visited the sky scrapper, it had interesting installations on the windows. We had our stay got back to hotel and went to sleep.
Day 15(05.09)
We went to Takayama, by train, one of the most scenic train rides so far. We strolled around the city center, visited the early morning market, bought some souvenirs, tried some white strawberries, mushroom tee and other local cuisine. Visited Takayama Showa Museum, which was 10/10. You could touch almost everything, the museum gave a great vibe, it was like you were in a house of a family that lived there. There was also an old nintendo with mario kart that you could play, put on a old yukata and take photos. Play pachinko(no money needed), watch an old-school movie. We visited a few sake tasting places, I've found a few flavours that I liked. After that back to Nagoya, eat ramen and sleep.
Day 16(05.10)
We sent out our luggage to Matsumoto, caught a train to Nagiso and then hiked the Nakasendo trail to Tsumago and then Magome where we checked in and stayed at the local ryokan. The hike was very nice and relaxing one of the easier hikes I've had, the places we saw we're quite old and beautiful. At ryokan we met people one American and one from Germany, they had a guitar so we chatted a bit, played the guitar and had a few beers. The dinner at ryokan was amazing, looked very traditional Japanese dinner. Was also very tasty, would definitely recommend this place. After that we went to sleep.
Day 17-19(05.11)
Got up early and took a bus to Nakatsugawa Eki-mae station where we travelled to Matsumoto. We left our bags and went to the RubyKaigi conference. Overall good conference, I've learned somethings, but most importantly I've had bit of time to rest and catch up on some sleep, since we weren't exploring new cities. So overall the following 3 days were wake up -> breakfast -> conference -> lunch -> conference -> drinks -> dinner -> sleep.
Day 20(05.14)
Slept in, had breakfast and travelled to Tokyo by train. Left our luggage at the hotel and moved on to explore the Chou region. Walked around the Ginza, Imperial palace, Yasukuni shrine and went to check in. After that it was getting dark, so travelled to Akihabara to experience the anime night life, was quite bright and interesting. Though the amount of requests to visit a maid cafe was too damn high. If your planning to buy a PS5, a new GPU or Nintendo switch, this could be the place, I saw PS5 with two controllers for 60k yen, with a 10% tax refund that is around 370 euros. After some exploration, got back to our hotel and went to sleep.
Day 21(05.15)
This was our Hakone day trip, we bought the 3 day pass for it, so we could use the train, bus, ropeway and boat. Was worth it, even for one day. We climbed Mt. Kintoki, thankfully the weather was great and we could see Fuji. The climb was very nice, the view was amazing, the weather was great, no bears to be seen. After climbing down, we played some golf that was near there. Travelled back to the station were we used the rope-way to get around the mountains, the view was just majestic, we saw the sulfur pits, the stench was, well strong to say the least, but overall enjoyed the experience. We didn't make it time to the boat, so we had to travel back by bus, which wasn't so bad, since the scenery was amazing.
Day 22(05.16)
Explored more Tokyo, so we went to Teito district, went to the Ueno zoo, National science museum. After that we went to Kaminarimon gate, Asakusa shrine and moved to Shibuya next. There we went to the Yoyogi park, Meiji Jingu shrine, paid our respects to Hachiko statue. The last activity was to visit TeamLabs Planets, which were amazing, one most interesting experiences, not gonna spoil any details, overall great experience, would do it again. As it was getting late we got back to Shibuya, walked around more, had a drink and went back to our hotel.
Day 23(05.17)
Last day in Japan was spent buying souvenirs, snacks and other stuff to bring back home. Packing our luggage, to accommodate for the extras, getting to Haneda airport and back to Lithuania.
I'm very happy I had the opportunity to go on such a trip, I enjoyed it a lot even though, I'm quite the couch potato so 3 weeks is a bit much for me, but nonetheless, wouldn't change a thing.

2023.06.03 14:05 k819799amvrhtcom New Headcanon: Princess Peach from the Super Mario series is transgender!
Now, first of all, being a princess, Peach is, of course, a public figure, meaning that, if she were to be trans, it would have to be public knowledge, meaning that the Toads who serve her would have to be OK with her being trans. And, indeed, the Toads have been confirmed to be
a genderless race with gendered characteristics. However, given that the Toads have clearly gendered names, appearances, pronouns, expressions, and labels, Koichi Hayashida clearly meant to say that Toads do have genders, just no biological sexes. Toadsworth has facial hair and a deep, masculine voice, but we all know that facial hair can be shaved off and voices can be feminized via training and that this does not require any transgender hormones. In other words, Toads likely choose their own genders, instead of having them assigned at birth, making every Toad neither cisgender nor transgender. Such a people would definitely have no reason to have anything against serving a transgender princess.
Also, Peach might be a Toad herself. After all, she is called Princess Toadstool. Nintendo.com's page for
Super Mario Sunshine says that she is Toadsworth's daughter. And Super Mario RPG says that she has a grandma who is also a Toad. But there is the possibility that she was adopted. Which is actually common for transgender people.
Now, being a publicly known trans person, all of her friends would have to be okay with her being trans, as well, so let's look at some of her friends, shall we?
- Birdo is the most obvious example that comes to mind, given that she is pretty much a trans icon at this point. Now, Birdo originally started out as a villain, true, but savvy Mario fans will tell you that this game is actually non-canon because it was all just a dream. In reality, Peach and Birdo are seen playing board games and kart games and various sports together most of the time. Now, some people might be offended that I called her Birdo and not Birdetta, but that is actually correct. The North American instruction booklet of Super Mario Bros. 2 clearly states that Birdo only thinks he is a girl, when in reality, he is a pronounfuild genderfluid person. Yeah. That is the only logical explanation for all sources to be true. Birdo also has an affair and good chemistry with:
- Yoshi lays eggs, yet uses he/him pronouns. Yoshi's Island DS revealed that Peach was actually raised by yoshis. The game also reveals that Peach already looked like a little girl upon her birth. Just like me. I also used to look like a little girl before my mother cut my hair for the first time at the age of 1. There are still old baby photos of me where I wear pink shirts and long hair and I have been mistaken for a girl on those photos.
- Luigi really likes to dress up in feminine clothes, making some people suggest that he is trans-female. Critics of this theory have pointed out that he could also just be a crossdresser. Well, first of all, Luigi lives in a universe where clothes give you special powers: The Tanooki Suit lets you fly, The Raccoon suit lets you fly and turn into a statue, the Hammer Suit lets you throw hammers, and so on and so forth. And we all know that Peach's floating ability comes from her dress. So if a person wants to dress differently in the Super Mario Universe, they undoubtedly also want to change their lifestyle, as well. Secondly, Super Mario 64 DS revealed that clothes can transform your look: Whoever wears Mario's cap turns into Mario, whoever wears Luigi's cap turns into Luigi, and whoever wears Wario's cap turns into Wario. All while also gaining their abilities and everything. And, finally, the New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Website clearly implies that Luigi would have been interested in wearing the Super Crown. If Luigi is cis then he is at least what we would call an HRT femboy.
- Mario is not only friends with all of the above but also with the tadpolekin Mallow, the celestial-spirit-in-the-body-of-a-doll âĄâŞ!?, and the trans-female Vivian, who has been bullied by her sisters for being trans. Also, in the officially licensed Mario game Lily Franky Theater from 1995, Bowser becomes Mario's girlfriend, which is only possible if Bowser is transgender. And, finally, Mario occasionally crossdresses himself and his brother Luigi has no problem with that.
Furthermore, the Super Mario Universe is full of transformations: The Super Crown turns Toadette into a Peach lookalike, the Boo Mushroom turns Mario into a Boo (which makes all Boos attracted to him, which says a lot about their attraction),
the kings of the Mushroom World have been turned into various Mario enemies in Super Mario Bros. 3, some Mario games feature
lots of fake Bowsers who are actually some of his minions in disguises, magikoopas can magically transform practically everything into everything else, Cappy gives Mario the ability to possess his enemies' bodies, and so on and so forth, meaning that transgender people in the Super Mario Universe would be very likely to have a way to turn into their cisgender counterparts somehow.
But that only proves that Peach would have the
possibility of being trans. Why do I think she actually is trans? Well, take a look at the only game focusing on what Peach does when she is on her own: The game Super Princess Peach is all about emotions. Why is this mechanic not in any other game? Well, this undoubtedly has to do with her being female, because women tend to be more emotional than men. This is not a stereotype. Men tend to have more testosterone than women and women tend to have more estrogen than men, making women more emotional. That's why taking estrogen makes trans women more emotional. Anyway, in order to have emotions in this game, you need to have energy in your Vibe Gauge. Otherwise, all you can do is be completely emotionally numb. Kinda like trans women before they start taking hormones. You can fill the Vibe Gauge a lot by collecting blue gems, kinda like how trans women take blue pills, or a little by consuming enemies. Trans people are also known to research specific foods to see which foods contain masculine or feminine hormones. All enemies fill up the Vibe Gauge a little, meaning that all enemies would have to contain feminine hormones, which would make perfect sense, considering all the enemies in the game are so overemotional to have gained special abilities due to the effects of the Vibe Scepter, which I would assume to magically fill people with estrogen. According to the game's end credits, no one knows who created the Vibe Scepter or why. Which would make perfect sense if it was created for transgender purposes in a society where trans people need to hide.
Anyway, you need to do all this in order to have emotions, something cis people get for free. And emotions also make you super powerful: Joy makes you fly and your skirt go spinny, rage makes you stomp so hard it can break rocks and produce actual fire, gloom makes you run really fast and also produce tears with no end, and calmness heals your injuries. Mario and Luigi can't do any of this. Also, Peach really needs all those emotions to progress. Even gloom, which is usually seen as a negative emotion by cis people, is really helpful for her, kinda like how trans women are happy when they are able to cry and sad when they are not.
Peach also spends the game collecting coins. But she is a princess. Shouldn't she be wealthy? Shouldn't she have insurance covering all kinds of things for her? What does she even do with all this money? Does she buy cheap foods like Mario and Luigi do? No. Does she buy expensive weapons like Mario and Luigi do? No. She buys:
- Self-defense tutorials that teach her how to use the new umbrella that Toadsworth gave her. Similar to how trans people get a lot of the information they need by watching tutorials from the internet.
- Several drinks that help her control her own emotions better. Say whatever you want but I classify those as medicine, especially given their unusually high prices. She also drinks a lot of "Tough Coffee", which is typical for people under a lot of stress, which is typical for trans people.
- Music. A necessity for some emotional people.
- Puzzle pieces to create pictures of herself on them. Pictures of oneself is something trans people take a lot when they are happy with their body.
- Minigames. Trans people tend to play lots of videogames, as those help them dissociate from their own body. Which would make perfect sense, given how tall she is.
All of those seem to be things that are necessary for trans people to live their lives while also being things that would not be covered by insurance.
So, um, yeah. That is basically my entire argument as to I think Peach might be trans.
Gosh, it's really hard to come up with a new trans headcanon for a universe that already has so many trans characters in it..........
---
/uj In case you don't get the joke, I was pretending to try to prove Peach to be trans while inadvertently proving many other characters in the Super Mario universe to be trans (or trans allegories) instead.

2023.06.03 09:00 TheCurserHasntMoved (Sneakyverse) The Travels of a Galactic Cowboy, Part One: The Star Council, Chapter Nine: Corvian Home
First Previous Next
Skeeter had made an error. Not a big one, but one that did have significant downstream effects. He'd assumed that he could visit enough of each planet to give a sort of general feel to each one's character in three or four days, but it was looking more and more like he'd have to extend the stay at Corvian Home for at least a weak. He could scarecely remember being so excited by making a mistake. In most respects, Corvian Home was wildly different from Terra. From its many small islands to its ever turbulent storms, to its mediworld gravity, it was unlike any place found on Terra. It still baffled him that the xenos thought Terran gravity was heavy. The way in which it was similar had to do with the wide verity of culture, which made getting a general sense of the place a tad more difficult than planets with a more unified culture.
So, he had to ask Captain Vexkeed to extend the stay, which wasn't cheap. Additionally, it required the refund of any unsatisfied passengers who were on more time-sensitive journeys. However, it turned out that the majority of the passengers had apparently viewed the voyage as a "Sneaky Cruise," which made Skeeter laugh until he couldn't breathe when Captain Vexkeed told him. Likewise, when he told Suzie and Ivan, they found themselves completely overcome by mirth. Kip on the other hand couldn't see the humor in it. This, of course sent all three adults into the throes of hysterical laughter, which only further perplexed the boy.
The inscrutable, to Kip, Terran sense of humor aside, it turned out that apart from paying a fee to extend the journey and maybe five or six refunds, there was very little adjustment in terms of the
We Bring Friends from Afar to Joyous Meeting making drastic changes to her manifest. Which was amenable to Skeeter's bank account, and his conscience. In any case, it let him fill out the itinerary with a wide variety of events from the local sporting events, to seeing interesting geological formations or particularly treasured vistas, to attending musical theater, to restaurant hopping in one of the larger cities with a conveniently cosmopolitan makeup. Even better, all of the things toxic to Humans, Doggos, and Lutrae were also toxic to the Corvians, so the risk of accidental poisoning was almost nonexistent.
"We actually discussed this in class last week," Kip was saying as the shuttle shook in the storm winds, "once a group went to a new island, the storms cut them off from the original group, except for the very few traders brave enough to fly in⌠well, this."
"That so?" Skeeter prompted genially.
"Yeah, for the most part I guess people would just float along with whatever everyone else thought, but I guess that's true for most places. Except, since they were separate and all, they didn't all go along the same currents, and so even islands that are pretty close can be crazy different."
"That, and it is ruining the landing shots," Ivan grumbled as he kept the camera trained on the trio.
"Well, back home rain's a good thing!" Suzie exclaimed exuberantly.
"Rain makes rye," Skeeter rejoined.
"Rye makes whiskey," Suzie laughed.
"You mean industrial disinfectant or emergency stomach purging doses," Kip said flatly.
"How'd you find out about that?" Skeeter asked.
"Greg George mentioned it in his book. He dumped so many doses in a glass that any sane person would think he was trying to poison someone with the fumes."
"Oh, I loved
My Side," Suzie said, "It had always bugged me that the Lost Boys never got a fair say."
"Wait, isn't he a hero? He talks like you guys almost worshiped himâŚ"
"It's complicated," Skeeter said, "I served on a ship with one of the Lost Boys once, Stephen the Line. It was hard to not be in awe of him. Hard to remember that behind the deeds was a man just trying to serve like me."
"OhâŚ"
"Were you discussing more about Corvian Home in the classes?" Ivan asked before the silence could turn cold.
"Oh, sure, lots. Like on this one island there's a big festival where they celebrate the harvest of these huge nuts, and then there's this island where they have 'Imitation plays,' where Corvians try to mimic exactly how the plays sound from other races. Tutor Brixvee showed us a video of one they coppied from the Star Sailors, and it was pretty cool."
"Do you figure she had lessons on Corvian Home since she knew we were headed here?"
"Of course," Kip said with a bitter scowl, "she's full of dirty tricks like that." His hosts couldn't contain their mirth, not that they tried all that hard.
Later that day, the intrepid travelers were in the throes of a local festival. They had surmised that it was probably related to local folklore, as various icons and masks were featured heavily, but the press was so active and exuberant, that not even the Terran implants could keep up, slaved as they were to the Terran compads with better translation matrixes than even the local networks. Therefore, three out of the four friends found themselves swept up in a feathered fury of dance and rough song, to their ears anyway, while the only clue to Ivan's immense pleasure at the experience was his swiftly wagging tail. Which the locals had no idea was the unconcealable tell that his exterior coolness was in fact, a complete sham.
The festivities seemed to show no sign of abating as night fell over the city sheltered in a rough and rocky crown from the storms of the sea, so in order to get a good night's sleep they were obliged to catch a local shuttle ride between islands to find a slightly less festive town to bed down in, and Suzie took the opportunity.
"So I hear Y'all's planet name isn't what anybody calls it," she said impishly to the shuttle pilot.
"INDEED, ahem, indeed. We know that you mammal-peoples, and the reptile-peoples, and the water-peoples, cannot do it."
"Come on, give us an example," Suzie said in that challenging, teasing way that made Skeeter both cringe and love her.
The pilot laughed, or at least Skeeter thought he, or maybe she? At least Skeeter thought that the pilot laughed, whichever sex they were. He had a hard time with regular Terran corvids, let alone these giant bird people that reminded him of the former. Then said piolet of undetermined sex made a weird clicking noise in the depths of the throat and said, "That is the name."
"I can see why y'all think folk can't do that. Hey Skeeter, why don't ya give it a shot?"
"No," he said flatly.
"Aw come on, it's their planet's name, you should at least try," she said with that wry smile she had that made promises. Promises that he had a very difficult time resisting for⌠reasons.
He then made a right proper fool of himself trying to replicate the sound by clicking his tongue in various ways before giving up and just saying, "I'm stickin' with Corvian Home."
After making a right proper fool of himself, the other passengers obliged to laugh at him, and Suzie turned on Kip saying, "Your turn."
Kip shot her a sullen look.
"Aw, c'mon, you gonna let these folk just laugh at Skeeter all by his lonesome?" she chided.
Kip downright pouted at her.
"Coooome oooooon," she taunted.
Realizing that she wouldn't quit unless he gave in, Kip also made a mockery of himself trying to replicate the throat clicking sound to the delight of all and sundry. "Shut up," he mumbled as he laid his ears back.
"Ivan?" she asked of her final victim.
He clicked his tongue once, and when Suzie gave him a pout he said, "That is as much as I am trying."
"Now you try," Kip shot at her.
"I know my limits, unlike you boys," she laughed to Kip's indignant sputtering.
Meanwhile, Jerry was having a less festive time. Instead of happening to land on an island that happened to be hosting a festival for one reason or another, he had purposely chosen the center of finance for his outing. He'd had a relatively uneventful series of meetings with financiers, entrepreneurs, and shipping guild heads, and various other parties interested in securing access to new markets for their various trades. It was all very productive, and very boring, and not for the first time he felt a stab of regret for the last time that he had interacted with Skeeter.
Even still, it was a satisfying day. There was a lot of troubling mentions of debts though. Jerry was no stranger to the lending industries of various planets of the CIP, and even had some Republican contacts in that realm, those who could stand his needling of the Republic's systems, but nobody he knew ever said anything about "debt masters" or "clan debt." Troubling indeed, but he chalked it up to clunky translation. Even CIP systems could have trouble with new languages, and he just knew that Republican datapads were inferior. They had to be, of course.
Still though, there was something about the references that bothered him. Something furtive behind the eyes of the avian people who spoke of either concept. Then, there was the fact that only those who were obviously startup businesspeople would speak about them, never the financers. Very troubling indeed. He resolved himself to investigate the matter if he could make the time the next day.
The following morning, the intrepid travelers went on the only "heavyworlder safe" zipline tours available on the planet, which just so happened to be in the heavily forested canyons and followed paths through the foliage designed to simulate danger. Skeeter and Kip found it thrilling, but Suzie found it merely pleasant while Ivan was actually bored by the thrilling experience. The man was pleased with getting a shot of kip chanting breathlessly, "Let's go again, let's go again, let's go again, let's go again!" Wile Suzie was more pleased to have sneakily captured a shot of Ivan's unamused expression as he sped along on the pullies.
"Sure, why not?" Suzie had said to Kip.
To which Ivan said, "Because is boring."
"What?!" Kip nearly shouted.
"You take ride in boarding torpedo, and you will be understanding then."
"The real answer to why not is I already booked a nature walk. There's this island where there's like this bowl formation full of flowers. It looks amazin'" Skeeter explained to Kip's dismay.
Meanwhile, Jerry was exhausted. He'd reshuffled the meetings so that he had mere moments between them to prepare, but he was good at his job, so long as his counterpart wasn't a Republican, and could get the proper contact details to the correct people for whatever the other party hoped to accomplish, so long as it was legal, and it all was. It was therefore by mighty effort alone that he had a scant two hours in which to seek out the information he sought before he would have to retire to sleep, or else be completely useless the next day.
He took snagged a gravcar and told the cabbie, "Take me to where you and the lads go for a spot of drink, or whatever the legal intoxicant is around here."
The cabbie gave him a one eyed beady stare and said, "Are you sure, mammal-people? The places we go are not the high class places, by the storms."
"I'm sure, I'm sure. I might not look it these days, but I came up from w working family. My dah still makes fun that I lost my calluses."
The cabbie blinked twice and raised his crest. Jerry had no idea whether that was a good sign or not, but the blue plumed cabbie lowered his crest and blinked again saying, "Sure, mammal-people. I will take you there, but do not cause the fights or my clan will have share of the debt."
Jerry thought about pressing the issue, but something about how the cabbie's feathers had puffed out and still weren't lying flat convinced him that social lubricant was the needed thing. "What is the preferred intoxicant?" he asked.
"We smoke an herb. It usually does not work for mammal-peoples, so you might not have the fun you look for."
"I see, we also have some intoxicants taken this way, do you draw the smoke through water first?"
"Yes, do you mammal-peoples do this too?"
"It's called hookah, and has a long tradition in several of our cultures. Or bongs, which have a somewhat younger tradition, as history is measured."
"Maybe then you will get the happy haze and no fights will be started, mammal-people."
"Maybe, maybe. I'm just after a good banter, and the banker types are too stuffy."
"You are right, you are right, debt masters do not laugh when you joke, they charge you more interest!" the cabbie laughed, and Jerry fell silent.
At the, well, Jerry would call it a hookah lounge, Jerry found that the lads about avoided him and shot him suspicious glances, and also found that apart from a relaxed feeling in his limbs, the smoke had no effect on him. It was a pleasant feeling, and he could maintain it by taking a draw from the hookah every two minutes or so. It seemed that was a prodigious rate of smoking though, for eventually the suspicious glances turned to those of curiosity or even grudging respect. Jerry surmised that despite his rather drab coloring, they knew an expensive suit when they saw one.
Eventually, a clearly intoxicated Corvain stumbled over to his table and sank down on one of the cushions, "Why do you smoke so well, mammal-thing-people?" he slurred.
"I am used to a much stronger herb, and this makes me simply feel good. Does it not feel good for you?"
"'Course it do. Can't smoke as much."
"Wondering anything else?"
"You a Sneaky?"
Jerry thought about correcting the error, but another glance at the state of his conversation partner dispelled the notion, so he said, "Yes, but I am not very stealthy."
"It's just what people call you⌠dunno whyâŚ"
"I'm not botherd, I know the reason and it's funny."
"Funny?"
"Yes, do you know it?"
"Ish a meme."
"The first one of us that the Star Sailors met was mistaken for a pet, and they named him Sneaky."
That, as planned, brought forth uproarious laughter from the intoxicated Corvian who confided, "That's the kinda thing people-things get bristly about."
"I know, people-things get brislty about all sorts of things. Like the bankers, they won't tell me what debt masters are."
"They own clan debts."
"Clan debts?"
"You know, the debts you clan has, from like way back."
"Do you mean to say you were born in debt?"
"Sssssure, isn't everybody? Well, not rich people-things I guess, but ever-peoples I knowed."
"And these debt masters, they merely collect the interest?"
"Mostly."
"Mostly?"
"If you're not⌠if the job doesn't pay⌠erm⌠they so like tell you to do stuff."
"Involuntary servitude," Jerry said coldly.
"Yeah, that. The hatchlings get that rough."
"Explain please," Jerry said with cold intensity.
It seemed that the intensity of Jerry's gaze or maybe the soft quality of a hammer that his voice emulated, gave the Corvian some degree of sobriety as he stammered, "Yes-yes. The erm, the uh or-or-orphanages. The hatchlings there have no parents to provide for them, so the debt masters have them do something useful."
Jerry was very close to becoming a very dangerous man as he asked, "Are the debts of these children for sale?"
"Y-y-y-y-y-yes?"
"Where does one go to buy debts?"

2023.06.03 06:48 AshAndy83 Cont. Collection of Clues S2ep5 (half)
S2 E5 Lullaby - Title hints at more dreaming, sleeping; reminds us of the music box connected to Boyd
- Monsters harass Randall in the bus; they leave knowing they canât entice him to open the door
- Jade gets drunk and sees the man in the Polaroid for the first time; he opens up book of symbols, blood oozes out of symbols (this symbolizes death) and Jade spirals.
- Tabitha and Jim go to church to confront Sara; Boyd does his best to defend Sara by naming all the unlikely events that happened (constructing the tower, bus load of people arriving having little resources for them and a house fell for âno god damn reasonâ) for her to stay out of the Box
- Tabitha threatens Sara sheâll kill her. Tabitha and Jim seem to lose Boydâs respect and trust
- Ethan hides in his room learning Sara is back; Jim mentions the Cromenockle, âwhen sheâs afraid to go inside the cave.â Ethan finally comes out asking to see Sara
- Inside peek into Kristi and Marielleâs relationship; shows Kristi her old shirt, Kristi admits sheâs changed bc of the place
- Sara attempts to visit her old place she shared with her brother Nathan, wants to keep his jacket and wants to find ornament (their reminder of normal), but is kicked out abruptly by new the âtenantsâ
- Jade constructs symbol using empty glass bottles (Easter eggâsee! more bottles!), Victor shows up at the bar; they strike up an agreement
- Tabitha is upset about Ethan wanting to see Sara. Jim: âAfter Thomas⌠Because ALL the doctors said that we should let him lead sometimes, they also said that we have to let him work through things in his own way and to be there to support him when he asks.â This may imply Ethan was suffering severely after losing his baby brother. Further indicating his trauma and major change.*
- Ethan tells his mom, âwhen youâre on a quest, we have to face the scary things. Thatâs how you take their power away.â *Call back to Randall on the bus. Possible clue to defeating âThem.â Inspiring Tabitha to manage her own fear with the sick kids.
- Donna and Boyd talk; she reminds Boyd âhe was supposed to come back with answers, not psycho Sara;â Boyd argues that Sara knows things. Donna: âVoices or no voices, do you see a yellow brick fuckin road leading us home?â Potential clue suggesting there are in fact 2 opposing forces, just like the wizard and witch of Oz. The wizard could represent âThemâ since he hid behind a disguise in OZ just like the BIW.
- Donna calls out Boyd about Abby, that heâs projecting onto Sara since he wasnât there for his wife
- Boyd saving Sara creates a huge rift amongst the town, starts to lose credibility and trust with practically everyone

Spanish occupation of Lima, Peru in the 16th century led to a large amount of wealth amassed in the city during the centuries thereafter by the Roman Catholic Church. In the early 1800s, Spain began to experience difficulties in its South American colonies as revolts took place. Peru followed suit and an evacuation took place in 1820. During the evacuation, the viceroy of Lima ordered the riches collected there to be transported to Mexico for safekeeping.
Captain William Thompson of the Mary Dear was entrusted with this cargo and agreed to transport it. However, it never reached its destination. Captain Thompson and his crew killed the Spanish guards onboard and set off for Cocos Island off the coast of present day Costa Rica, where they were said to have buried their cargo and split up to later reconvene and divvy up the spoils.
After the cargo was offloaded, the Mary Dear was captured by the Spanish and the crew was executed for piracy. Thompson and his first mate were spared in exchange for the location of the treasure, but when the Spanish took them to the supposed place it was hidden, the pirates escaped into the jungle never to be seen again.
It is said that no clues were left behind as to the location of the treasure, lost to time. However, what if there were? What if the pirates left clues so discreet that they could only be found and deciphered by the most clever of treasure hunters? Well thatâs where this story begins.
.
Hello! First of all, if youâve read this far, thank you. Iâve gotten the itch for a globe-trotting, action-packed treasure hunting story in the last couple of days and this is my attempt to scratch it. I realize this is a little barebones, but I was hoping we could flesh out the details together!
I am a literate roleplayer, usually typing around 3-5 paragraphs in 3rd person past-tense. On days I am off work, I can get multiple replies in as I usually donât do much. However, on days Iâm working replies may be more sparse depending on how busy work is. Iâm a bartender who keeps an odd sleep schedule so it really just depends.
As far as what Iâm looking for, mainly just someone who can supply a good time writing a cool story as well as someone I can get along well with ooc. Itâs always a plus to make a new friend.
If you wouldnât mind sending me a writing sample and a little about yourself, that would be great!
18+ only, and preferably 21+ as I am 26.
Look forward to hearing from you!

2023.06.03 03:20 Espsiongold2VA HELP WANTED 2 the game that might have the best reason to exist
| Put the security breach Logo over Freddy in your mind, it's part of the theory So obviously there's a few people scratching their head at the help wanted 2 idea, why is it possible, when, who are we, what time. So I've a few thoughts based on some past lore Theory. Hand unit said in the original FNAF help wanted "the game almost never made it to market" which means it did. And he says "it's good to see you sticking to the script and not wandering which is exactly what our risk assessment team is looking for" if you don't interact with anything that summons glitchtrap. These are interesting because it implies that you are both playing to beta test going by the risk assessment team comment but also that the game is already for sale on the market and with enough time to get DLC. So considering curse of dreadbear was made setting up a mask for vanny and the it's me Easter egg meaning more game was made which is both done by Vanessa and the princess in princess quest 3 making curse of dreadbear cannon to the timeline since you go through help wanted and curse of dreadbear in princess quest 3. Depending on how you take hand units dialogue from help wanted.. It is possible you play as the only person who never actually went looking for clues and never encountered glitchtrap like the FNAF world mocking you "you beat the game but didn't do anything" or FNAF 6 mock "you did little effort and took no risk and here is a certificate of mediocrity" Like we play as the only person who followed every rule and that's why there's no other applicants. Because I mean it's hinting we are a beta tester by the no other applicants, or the only person who followed the rules. However he said welcome back for another week and that implies Mike. Ballora has purple eyes, it's the ones Mike shows at the end of sister location scooping ending. So her having blue eyes which is mikes own eye color makes sense. It's not implying that you are a child either. So we could be Mike for 2 reasons 1. Help wanted hand unit says "your descending to Cbear sorry for the crampt space but the other services elevator is well above your pay grade" this line always confused me but yea it implies that there is another service elevator leading to sister location. Mike would be able to access And hand unit said "Fazbear entertainment are not responsible for real world manifestations of digital characters" meaning Mike can return "we designed this like a plug n play bringing back personalities from the past in an instant" Or....FNAF AR trailer Mike "I've been living in the shadows" perhaps his consciousness was accidentally transferred into another person since you signed the contract. Hand unit mocking is absolutely the way he mocks Micheal so perhaps Mike manifested in the FNAF AR trailer, as you hear him "I've been living in shadows" Or because remember the CDs in security breach we find 16 and they are retro CDs same as vintage, retro old CDs 16 collected in mikes very room, wouldn't it be funny if collecting the 16 retro CDs manifested Mike into either existence or back kinda like how I your the band he's just like "sup.....Mike security guard, come experience this not cannon situation to save your son" And Mike Schmidt movie game ect. And the reason why I think this is happening is because of FNAF AR. We were though on security breach for it's bugs and cut content but going by FNAF AR the dark circus and the lore split between the games, it's entirely possible sections had to be cut because ilumix handled their side badly. Email leaks, characters absent from the game. I mean we got a picture of Lefty and Funtime Freddy cost more than security breach, but that's not the issue, if the dark circus was to connect to sections of the pizzaplex then steel wool were left with half the characters absent from the other game that were essential for plot points. Hopefully steel wool have been given control over the AR lore and the result will be in help wanted 2. This isn't a rant against ilumix, more an apology to steel wool for not realizing that they had half the game. I get the impression from how much takes from the pizzaplex stories have changed places and names the AR cade is literally an Augmented Reality cade and the VR booths. Maybe there was a reason Monty golf only had half the game. But the lore from the books, the devs on gamejolt talking about the game, Scott putting the AR animatronics in FNAF fury's rage, you see one side Then you look at the pizzaplex guide and it's like incoherent to a fault. It's like help wanted mobile port glitch level. So if steel wool have been working on RUIN and help wanted 2 it's absolutely for one reason only, they were left with so much work to do. 3 cannon disappointments Ilumix brought remnant into existence stealth technology allowing animatronics to be invisible haywiring and brought Shadow Bonnie as the real shadow Bonnie. Pizzaplex runs on batteries, trying to explain vanny is invisible because sound illusions that only make your view destort and no shadow Bonnie Combined it would explain itself Anyway that's my theory and if you want to talk about triangles inside triangles try my suggestion above Anyway how do you think it will work? submitted by Espsiongold2VA to fnaftheories [link] [comments] |

2023.06.03 00:50 VelikofVonk Written Fiction Book & Author Recommendations for Aphants
If you have aphantasia, please reply with books or authors you have read (not listened to) and enjoyed.
Here are some of mine, with brief descriptions cribbed from Wikipedia or Goodreads. These are mostly books & authors that I've read recently.
- Jorge Luis Borges: His best-known books, Ficciones (Fictions) and El Aleph) (The Aleph), published in the 1940s, are collections of short stories exploring themes of dreams, labyrinths, chance, infinity, archives, mirrors, fictional writers and mythology.
- Haruki Murakami: Most of Haruki Murakami's works use first-person narrative in the tradition of the Japanese I-novel. He states that because family plays a significant role in traditional Japanese literature, any main character who is independent becomes a man who values freedom and solitude over intimacy. A notable feature of Murakami's stories are the comments that come from the main characters as to how strange the story presents itself. Murakami explains that his characters experience what he experiences as he writes, which could be compared to a movie set where the walls and props are all fake.[36] He has further compared the process of writing to movies: "That is one of the joys of writing fictionâI'm making my own film made just for myself."[57]
- R A Lafferty: Lafferty's quirky prose drew from traditional storytelling styles, largely from the Irish and Native American, and his shaggy-dog characters and tall tales are unique in science fiction. Little of Lafferty's writing is considered typical of the genre. His stories are closer to tall tales than traditional science fiction and are deeply influenced by his Catholic beliefs; Fourth Mansions, for example, draws on The Interior Mansions of Teresa of Avila.
- The Southern Reach Trilogy, by Jeff VanderMeer: Area X has been cut off from the rest of the world for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; the second expedition ended in mass suicide, the third in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another. The members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within weeks, all had died of cancer. In Annihilation, the first volume of Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach Trilogy, we join the twelfth expedition.
- Piranesi, by Susanna Clarke: Piranesiâs house is no ordinary building: its rooms are infinite, its corridors endless, its walls are lined with thousands upon thousands of statues, each one different from all the others. Within the labyrinth of halls an ocean is imprisoned; waves thunder up staircases, rooms are flooded in an instant. But Piranesi is not afraid; he understands the tides as he understands the pattern of the labyrinth itself. He lives to explore the house.
- Parables and Paradoxes, by Franz Kafka: The pieces here were posthumously gathered from Kafka's notebooks, diaries, letters, and short fictional works. Though generally short, they do seem to go remarkably well together. The pieces are arranged in 4 broad sections: the imperial area including the Great Wall and The Tower of Babel. ("If it had been possible to build the Tower of Babel without ascending it, the work would have been permitted."). There is a section that is Midrashic on the Older testament ("We are fashioned to live in Paradise, and Paradise was destined to serve us)". A favorite of mine was "The Animal in the Synagogue", though what the animal may symbolize is open for discussion. The section on the Greeks, introduces Poseidon, who has become a bureaucrat, checking "the last row of figures." And "Leopards in the Temple" presents another animal in another temple ... and "becomes part of the ceremony". The final section includes unrelated fragments such as "The invention of the devil" and "The truth about Sancho Panza".
- Moby Dick, by Herman Melville: The book is the sailor Ishmael)'s narrative of the maniacal quest of Ahab, captain of the whaling ship Pequod), for vengeance against Moby Dick), the giant white sperm whale that bit off his leg on the ship's previous voyage.
- I Who Have Never Known Men, by Jacqueline Harpman: Thirty-nine women and a girl are being held prisoner in a cage underground. The guards are all male, and never speak to them. The girl is the only one of the prisoners who has no memory of the outside world; none of them know why they are being held prisoner, or why there is one child among thirty-nine adults. One day, an alarm sounds, and the guards flee; the prisoners are subsequently able to escape. They find themselves on an immense barren plain, with no other people anywhere, and no clue as to what has happened to the world.

2023.06.02 22:24 StatusEngineering92 Word of wisdom from an 8 year forester
Greetings forest family!
I wanted to make a post highlighting some tips I wish I knew of when I first started attending that are more focused on the unique traditions and energy that forest holds. Hopefully you will use this information as a way to join right in on the magic and also take your experience to the next level.
- The forest has real magic. Thousands of foresters come together over the years to create and manifest a beautiful experience. This allows everyone to walk away with a little piece of forest in their hearts. Find a way to participate in that wether itâs a gift or a compliment or even helping those around you. The forest will reward you if you show up. The energy thatâs revolving that weekend is palpable and if you step into it and dance with the energy magic will happen.
- Donât miss Saturday night cheese. Took me a few years to get tuned into the magic but they are the reason this fest started and if you want to really feel the love and cheesy vibes donât miss Saturday night shabang truly a spectacle that encapsulates every forest year! This is the true forest family reunion each year!
- STS9 is playing and they are forest double OGâs. I promise if you want to truly feel the connectedness of forest you will not want to miss out. My neighbors the first year pleaded and begged me to catch them and it changed the course of my musical taste. Thereâs a reason they have been playing for 20+ years I promise you will come back to this thread and thank me.
- Get lost in the forest! I highly recommend that you make it a point to lose your friends and wander the forest at night. There is a portal that opens and brings out the real forest wanderers! If you are able to take a bad moment like losing your friends as away to find out more about yourself and wander freely in a safe space with tons of characters do it you wonât regret. Again the forest will reward those who take a leap!
- If you are dying of heat at the campsite or canât find any comfy sleeping go into the forest with your hammock and take a nap. Itâs usually about 10 degrees cooler and your under the shade. Bonus if you find a peaceful set like dixons violin (amazing sleeping music) Sleeping in the forest is part of the magic. I like to get some food smoke a joint and take a snoozer!
- There are so many Easter eggs/ puzzles official an unofficial so flip every rock look around every corner and say happy forest to everyone! My 4th year I found out that there are festival staff that run their own mini Easter eggs and have cool prizes. ( got a super cool nectar day pin on Saturday by figuring out a riddle one of the staff had) he says that there are many people that come to create their own! Iâll give you one clue look for a guy name a acoomofo he will tell you the rest!
- Forest was my first experience with a ceremony setting. Just like the tribes would gather and dance and chant to the gods we are doing the same. Remember that once you become forest fam it is your duty to continue that energy and way of thinking into the real world. As a member of the forest tribe remember the forest is always inside you and you can tap into that by going inside yourself. With that being said honor and respect forest as if she was your mother she will always provide for you so appreciate and apply the lessons sheâs teaches!
Bonus -make sure to keep an eye out for Carl that little forest monkey has been hiding for years!!!
Truly excited to continue spreading forest joy and passing on the lessons and traditions that have been handed down to me by my forest ancestors. I will see everyone in a few weeks! Jah bless! <3
