I think that for the vast majority of users, if the official reddit app wasn't a worsening dumpster fire over the last few years, none of this would even be an issue. (Excluding mods who need specific capabilities and tools, and those with accessibility needs).
I hazard to say that most users don't know what API is, and don't even care that much about the ads. If the official app was functional and it wasn't always forcing stupid updates on users, most people would happily use it. I've been using Boost for a few years and do you know how many major changes have been made? Zero. There may have been behind-the-scenes updates (?) but as far as I've noticed there were no changes to the UI or front level experience.
As a side note: I used to be a daily PokemonGo player (since 2016) until a few months ago when Niantic made significant changes to functionality, pricing, and access mostly effecting casual/rural players. On a technical level it's not the same as reddit's upcoming changes but as far as I can tell they're both about greed and control.
I haven't played a day since. Not that my 'boycott' made any difference to Niantic. But now instead of playing Pokemon on my daily commute to and from work, I've been knocking books off my to-read list.
If reddit goes through with its slaughter of 3rd party apps, I won't go back to using the official app (again it won't make any difference).
My point being, not that I intended to make a point to begin with lol, these companies make money off of our time and attention. While I will miss the endless scrolling through memes and cat pictures, I'll be taking time and attention elsewhere.

I'm a F22, 157cm, south Asian, suspected ADHD for two years now, I'm preparing for my master's in counseling psychology and my assumptions are not 'just' based on videos from Instagram. I've done the best I can reading research papers, comparisions and case studies to be sure of what I've been observing in myself, are infact symptoms. All I ask for is to get tested by a professional to give me the clarity, even if I'm wrong but it's so damn hard.
I've been in and out of therapy for 12 years now, but never really made it past the 8th session with a therapist or past the 3rd session with a psychiatrist because the meds kept draining all the energy out of me to the point I could barely stay awake even with 12+ hours of sleep. This year I started sessions with a new therapist, it's been four months and I actually find her quite helpful when it comes to emotional support. We agreed on testing for a personality disorder emerging from trauma and I asked if I could be screened for ADHD too since we'll be doing psychometric assessments seperately with a different clinician (through her reference) and our regular sessions could go on the way they are. We went through the personality test all fine, and scheduled a session for the ADHD screening the next week, but during the following regular therapy session things took a turn. Even when I very clearly talked about the problems (such as time blindness/executive dysfunction/addiction/emotional impermanence) I was constantly told "maybe your time blindness is really just you not being mindful enough?" and other similar 'justifications' for every other symptom I mentioned. This isn't the first time it's happened, no matter how many therapists or doctors I've seen they have either just said "I don't think you need to get screened for ADHD we won't do it now" or pestered me into saying 'yeah I guess it could be chronic anxiety' even though long term therapy OR medications for anxiety haven't done much for me. Why can we walk into a clinic and ask for an ultrasound and it will be done but not a psychometric test that will ultimately be conducted and scored by a clinician? I am honestly frustrated, I need some clarity, some proof, an explanation, even if my initial assumptions are wrong I want tangible results. Why is it so hard? Is there anything I can do?

Hello jobs 👋🏼 I'm going to keep some details vague so for privacy reasons.
Back in March I applied for a (paid) graduate program in the aerospace industry and fast forward to the stringent application process between April/May, I got through everything and got a call from the recruiter saying (verbally) that I got the job! Initially they wanted me to start early June, but said that they are flexible and I just need to let them know when I want to start.
because of other commitments, I asked if it was possible to start towards the end of June, to which they said it wasn't an issue.
At the moment, I'm on annual leave with my current workplace and I haven't submitted the resignation letter yet because I haven't received the contract from the new work place. The last time I heard from the recruiter was back in end of May, to which they texted that "don't worry the contract will be sent soon!"
Since then, I haven't heard back and I've been trying to call and text but I am only getting voicemail and a message saying that "notifications have been silenced". Initially I've been keeping my cool but now it's been two, almost three weeks since I heard back and now I'm starting to feel anxious only because 1) I really would like this job because it's in line with my uni degree and 2) I don't really want to go back to my current job, but I will have to if nothing has come in yet.
I just find the radio silence slightly unnerving because during the recruitment process they were very quick to respond and since the final interview and phone call, communications has been very slow.
Any advice on how to keep my mind off of the wait? Or what else to do? Or if I did something wrong? Trying not to feel anxious and doing my best to be patient 😅 Thank you!

I don't know if this is a common practice or not, but I've developed a routine where I never watch the title sequence of a series I haven't seen all of yet, I just close my eyes and listen to it. In my head it's to 'avoid spoilers', which I know is somewhat irrational (how can half-second clips of people screaming spoil a series) but it stems from my experience watching the very first episode, where I noticed Romesh smashing the melon in the title sequence before it happened, and I think knowing exactly what was coming marginally depreciated the entertainment.
I do wonder now if it's less about spoilers and more about the game of just listening to the sounds and trying to identify who's making them and what the clips are. Sometimes I get it badly wrong (I assumed throughout S15 that the clip of Kiell wailing at the sink was Jenny, even after the imaginary friend task had already aired). Other times the sounds just create memorable patterns - among others there's a segment of the NZ1 sequence where a bunch of noises all happen in time to the beat, punctuated by Brynley's 'Nutsack!' which always sticks in my mind. (Honestly, even though I don't think that highly of NZ1 as a series, it might have the best-composed title sequence. Every clip falls into place.) Anyway - I'd definitely recommend giving this way of watching the titles a go.
On a related note, does anyone know if an isolated video of the S15 titles has been uploaded to YouTube yet? I can't seem to find one, and there's one for every other series. I had to watch a minute and a half of adverts on All 4 so I could have the epiphanic moment of watching the title sequence in all its visual glory this time around.)

Hi everyone.
So I wanted to write a bit about ethnic skin differences because when I was younger, I tried to treat my skin with caucasian methods even though I was asian. It didn't work very well, and I think, years later, that it was my mistake, thinking that all skin was the same, which was (for skincare purposes) definitely NOT the case. Of course, YMMV, for simplification purpose, I am talking about generalities here.
I definitely noticed some stuff, but I recently watched some old videos on the Mentholatum sg Youtube channel (mainly that one, but keep in mind that it is basically a Hada Labo ad: (76) Hada Labo Talkshow 12th Dec 2013 (ENG) - YouTube ) , which gave the scientific reason for the differences and I thought I would summarize it here to help other people with it!
The skin has three layers, epidermis, the outer skin, dermis, the middle layer, and hypodermis, the deeper layer.
Asian skin has, compared to caucasian skin, a much thicker and denser dermis layer ( and a much thinner epidermis layer (outer skin). It also tends to have more sebaceous glands, so the asian "normal skin" may be on the oily side.
On the negative side, because of the thinner epidermis, asian skin scars more easily, it is more sensitive and it has a weaker barrier. That's why the asian approach is all about gentleness. Because of the denser dermis layer, asian skin loses hydration more easily and it is harder for products to penetrate well, and that may be why hydrating toners, first treatment essences, etc. are so prevalent over there. And of course, asian skin produces more melanin, so it gets tanner easily (not necessarily a downside, but I know that a lot of asian people like to have fairer skin), it doesn't burn as easily HOWEVER the very clear downside of higher melanin production is the higher risk of PIH. The higher oil content also means that we need more exfoliation.
On the positive side, thanks to the thick dermis, asian skin has way more collagen, so it doesn't age easily.
Conclusion: Asian skin needs to focus heavily on hydration (toner and lotion may be optional for caucasian skin, but often it may be more important for us), we need gentler products and the exfoliation methods of caucasian may not necessarily be the best thing for asian skin. On the plus side, we don't need to worry too much about anti-aging.

Hi all! Looking for the right search terms to replace some lamp clamps, and any experience fitting either to a temporary set up.
I have some secondhand clamp lamps to fit to an IVAR set up (bit like this, with in-built desks/workspace). I don't want to screw them into the wood using the mounting plates because I change the shelf configurations too often.
1- HEKTAR I have two HEKTAR wall/clamp lamps that are missing their clamps. I can't order them as spare parts.
What kind of clamp is this, what's it called, and what would be a good replacement? Searching 'cantilever clamps' has given me some options, but I've never had the HEKTAR originals so I don't know what size and strength I need?
2- RANARP I have two RANARP lamps in white. They're complete and I have the wall bracket plates too. They technically could fit directly to the IVAR uprights, but the tension on the built-in spring fitting is so high that the wood actually crunches under them! :0 (Might not make sense if you've never had them - they're like a giant bulldog clip!). What would you do to fit them safely? Current best plan is artfully-fitted cable ties! :(

Hello EggsInc,
as you probably have heard if you've been on reddit the last few weeks, reddit is planning to implement a quite costly API pricing that will kill many third party apps. In case you haven't already heard about it there is an explanation down below.
To protest this we will be joining the other subreddits by going private from 12-14th of June.
Originally, the other mods and I weren't 100% sure if we should do this since a subreddit as small as us is probably just a drop in the ocean but after reading the post that the Apollo dev made about reddit spreading lies about them and other unprofessional behaviour from reddit we decided to partake in the protest.
What does this mean for me as an user?
If you're subscribed nothing will change. You will still be able to use the Co-Op Code Megathread to post and find Co-Ops and create posts as always. If you aren't subscribed you will not be able to access the subreddit during this time.

This subreddit will be joining in on the June 12th-14th protest of Reddit's API changes that will essentially kill all 3rd party Reddit apps.

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.

After some thinking, I've come to the conclusion that I was wrong. At least, for what I want in life anyway.
This is in regards to the rent vs buy argument. I'll preface this by saying it's not for those who can't afford to buy, it's for those who can afford but are choosing not to & to invest instead.
For a while, I was a strong advocate and practitioner of the lifestyle. But I couldn't help accept that it's just too risky of a bet.
The arguments many use...
"If you punch the numbers in a spreadsheet with annual rent increases of 3% & invest with a 7% return vs homeownership cost on X mortgage @ Y% rate and other expenses, it's cheaper!"
Who here is having fun in the current rental market? How many of the 100,000+ homeless would like stable living? Or, here's an exercise, go on flatmates.com and have a look at the people 45+ on there who are looking for a room in a share house with other randoms.
That's what happens when you lose the bet (choosing to rent instead of buy). You end up as either of those people if it goes south.
"But there's so many hidden costs! A roof could bust, pipes could burst, heater shit itself, it's never ending!"
Is the cost not better than the alternative though? Would you rather be complaining about that or complaining that you've been evicted and can't find anywhere to live?
As we've seen, rents have skyrocketed and more and more are without shelter. Choosing to rent is really giving up any sort of control and putting your faith at the whims of a landlord and the current market.
Bad health? Would you rather be on disability without a mortgage or on disability while still trying to cover rent?
"But my investments will cover it!" Will they? There's many other emergencies and/or curve balls in life that don't involve a house deteriorating. In 2020 I genuinely thought my job was secure, I lost that, got evicted from a crazy house share and suffered a brutal injury resulting in tens of thousands of dollars in rehab. Having the added stress of finding an emergency house just wasn't worth any spreadsheet calculation.
I also know people whos "emergency fund" wouldn't cover them if an actual emergency slapped them in the face but that's another argument.
Sometimes taking a money L can be a real-life W.
"But I don't want debt!" Put it this way, unless you plan to be homeless, you're always going to be in debt to someone for shelter. The mortgage holder just has the pain of seeing that debt in their account but they can dictate how quickly it evaporates. Go calculate 60 years of rent with a 3% increase each year, find that figure and imagine that in your bank because that's what your debt is. Your investments may cover it, but you still owe it.
The thing is, even if you can't control houses deteriorating and needing to pay them, you can at least control the most IMPORTANT things with housing.
  1. You choose what you pay. There's no need to live a lavish life. Live modestly and within your means. You have full control over what you agree to pay. The renter doesn't.
  2. You control how much interest you pay. "No you don't! Banks raise rates!". Yes they do, but if you buy modestly, put everything and the kitchen sink into the offset, find more work, having a partnehousemate(s) help slam off the mortgage, you eventually can save bucket loads in interest payments by clearing the mortgage a decade or two earlier. With renting you pay that forever.
  3. You can end up with more. Let's say you bowl it over in 20 years, that's 10 years of no mortgage and interest payments that you can now add to what you're already investing. The renter can still invest, but only after the landlord gets his piece of the pie.
Regardless of what your thoughts may be of Australia, one thing is for certain, if you just follow the two most treaded investment paths, regardless how bad you fuck up in life, you'll still win.
• Pay off a house & max out Super. That's it. •
"But people blow money on dumb renovations!" Who cares? Let them. So long as that house is paid off and super has been maxed out for most of their lives, they're golden. Let them enjoy.
Remember, two things:
• House
• Super
Any other investments you amassed over your life is extra.
Why gamble on the house and/or super being there or not? It makes zero sense. The system is set up so you can't lose.
And I haven't even mentioned putting god damn hooks on walls for paintings.

Yesterday I was 100% sure I was going to die of litchi poisoning, and feeling very anxious, today I feel depressed I did not die. I'm tired of alternating between anxiety and depression.
I am so lazy and useless, I can't even tell you. I have a bucket full of clothes I need to wash, and I guess I won't be shampooing my hair today because it's too late for that.
I never do chores. I skipped class today because I didn't want to walk a kilometer in 38 Celsius to reach class. It's not right. Think about it.
I've been thinking about life every single day coming to various conclusions which have within them a motivating factor - I get a surge of energy whenever one thought comes to a firm conclusion about the nature of reality, and ends on a very optimistic note.
The first one was that the ego does not exist. I do not exist, and I never will. My entire sense of self derived from being different from others in some way - to be precise, being better than them. I am no longer the best at what I do, in fact, I'm quite a failure.
I tried lots of things, like chess, singing, guitar, sport - failed everywhere, everything. Fact is, I simply do not exist. I'm just a cog in the machine and my purpose is to help run this machine. So I thought I should do something which is in demand, help society in my own little way by researching the - market?
Now, I am still ambitious, which means I lust after money and resources. I want to work as a quant, but what I want to work on is right now, not very absolute. But it will probably be something related to AI/ML. I'm honestly terrified of this subject. I think I can learn it, but given how things are playing out these days, I have lost all faith in my abilities to do a thing.
I have failed so much, I think, failure is what I expect in every domain. Salaries for quant are too high, if I succeed at that kind of thing, I'd no longer be a failure, but then since I am a failure, I can't expect to succeed at it.
Somehow, I am angry on the inside. I want to come out at the top still, but I still curse myself because I'm a failure. I understand 0% of my lecturers - I can't understand anything unless I spent 3 hrs reading about it in a book, but I don't really have the time or patience for it. I never could learn from others. I am a slow learner, who needs many examples.
Depression makes it very difficult, you can't do anything if you don't believe in yourself. I've started having lots of troubles focusing. I used to be able to sit long hours studying. Quite a big deal, but even then - I wasn't super efficient. Still. I want my past self back, the version who had some self esteem left and had high hopes.
Thing is, I'm very sad, because really - even now, I must have read more books than anyone I know, but I'm still failing harder than them. Everyone had very high hopes from me because of this reason, my mother (she has her own problems) expected something genius of me. I've let them all down. There was no point to reading those books.

So this happened at late March. Random person DM me and ask if I know of any gory content. I responded and giving her a place of gory content. She thanked me and started to talk a bit and eventually ask why I'm interested in gore for curiosity sake.
I responded due to my curiosity on the human body can take from mechanical to Frontline. She agreed with me but she called her crazy for thinking how "pathetic to beg for your life".
At the time I didn't notice as I was in more of a "ask, response, goodbye" kind if mood. I do have screenshots of the DM's but because it's Friday Saturday, I can't post any image's. I know I can post with that other website but I'm too lazy to do so.

So a little while ago I started using dating apps with serious intent to find an LTR (used them a couple times before just out of curiosity). Met someone amazing and we're currently in limbo. We're going on dates with no label yet bc they are also demi, and they have anxiety surrounding labeling things quickly (we already have a set time frame for discussing a label so no, I don't consider that a red flag).
Well. I found out that I'm demi bc they're my first sexual attraction. And an intense crush came with it, which is something I didn't think I was capable of (I identified as aro before but now greyro) which is making me hypersensitive and I'm over-analyzing their social cues. I am having a very difficult time with this double doozy. I've pretty much had a nervous breakdown bc I was a fully sex repulsed ace before this and I never once thought I'd feel this. And I'm also very much struggling with the "what if this is my only chance to enjoy sex????" fear. I am so mad bc this person is amazing and I DO NOT want to let this ruin a potentially great friendship, if they end up deciding to just be friends.
I know I should talk to them. They're already aware that they're my first sexual attraction and they were very concerned for me bc they could tell I wasn't handling it well. They're a very supportive person, but I feel very scared to tell them about the feelings too bc I'm afraid they'll balk and run away, and then I'll have lost one of the best people I've met in years.
My current idea is to tell them, and then tell them that I just need a month or something to recuperate and get my sh!t together again. I feel like they'll understand but again, I am so afraid of losing their friendship. And for some reason I feel extremely embarrassed, not even sure why.
Anyways, rant over. Does this plan sound ok? Any tips on how to execute it without passing out from the sheer anxiety? Should I even try telling them when I'm feeling this bad? Or should I only tell them that something in my personal life came up and I need a week or two to withdraw and focus on myself, THEN tell them?
Also would appreciate hearing if anyone else has gone through a similar experience bc I feel very much alone and isolated in how I'm feeling rn.

I know, SSD Read/Write cache is bad... i know that ... now
But our Syno was up from 2014 until now and for the last past month, not a lot of access.
We have to stop it, move it and restart it... but something goes wrong, but nut fully wrong. Let me explain.
Syno is a 2415+

After restart, The Synology start to complain about volume1 ...

We got a storage pool with 6 HDD (SHR) + 1 spare and, of course SSD Cache in w mode ...

With that Syno don't want to repair the SSD cache nor mount the volume.
BUT, and yeas, i'm lucky, i can mout manually the 14To volume with a simple mount -r ro /dev/mappevg1000-lv /tmp and access to my data. Yeah !
And start copying the most important data to a spare disk.

So, my volume is pretty intact, what i can see is some files get io error, but that was not important file
what i can see in the log (/valog/message):
raid1: Disk failure on sde1, disabling device. raid1: Disk failure on sde2, disabling device. raid1: Disk failure on sdf1, disabling device. raid1: Disk failure on sdf2, disabling device. 

So ok, when the crash occur, there was some data on the SSD cache, the sync with the raid array was not properly done (/md0 and /md1)

I've open a ticket on the synology account, but i'm pretty sure they will take forever to answer.
I will not be able to get all my data, because i have a raid of 14To and only a single 7To disk to backup essential data. That i know lucky enough. Thinking buying another one to backup the rest... or not.

I was concern if anyone in this forum was able to rebuild, correct, restore, disable ans so on the SSD cache to let space remount it. (With command line of course)
