2023.06.09 07:51 l233tsupah4x0r New to the US. Need help checking odds of getting approved for dealership auto loan at KIA.
Context: Recently moved to California living in the Dublin-Pleasanton area, east of SF. Need a new car for commute to work; not opting for used car because the subcompacts/sedans are too expensive at the moment in this area. Since I'm new to the country, I can only afford the cheapest cars so I've been eyeing the Kia Forte 2023 (LX/LXS are fine; they also have immobilizers). Several Kia dealerships here have the model for MSRP 20-22K. Not clear if there are mark-ups/ imposed add-on packages (at least, it's not advertised on their websites). My pre-tax salary is 110K, and I have several months proof of stable income. Credit score 700-750 across the bureaus, but the history is obviously less than a year since I just moved here. I can afford a down payment up to 7K, and I'm hoping to finance this car for a 48 month term with max $500 monthly payments. No trade-in (I've been commuting by transit).
This is my first time buying a car, so I'm trying to get educated on the process.
- What are my odds of getting a loan set-up through the dealerships given this context? It would be helpful if you could breakdown your reasoning for me!
- Credit score, credit history/age, proof-of-income/residency. What else am I being evaluated on to be eligibile for a loan?
- Are there ways I can increase the odds of getting a loan approved through the dealership, like a larger down payment?
- How much weight should I put on considering auto loans from Chase, credit unions, or third-parties like LendTree. Seems like these options will take more time than they're worth, plus additional hits to my credit score due to the hard checks. I've tried pre-qualifying for some third-parties, and it appears they aren't able to pre-qualify me.
- Are there other sub-compacts/sedans you'd recommend? I was also considering the Honda Civic Hatchback (this would be dope), Toyota Corolla Hatchback (I'm scared of the mark-ups), Kia Rio (they appear to be mostly discontinued in California), and Subaru CrossTrek/Impreza.
Please let me know if there are missing details that'd be helpful. The subreddit has been pretty educational so far, so thank you guys for being so active on here.

2023.06.09 07:50 M0RTY_C-137 My options? Los Angeles, flight to Paris for my wife’s fathers wedding is 6/14/23. I was just informed they lost and didn’t submit my “lost passport” form when I submitted my application in April.
I’m going to take up at 5am and start calling my senators.
Timeline:
January 2023 I book my appointment for 4/20/23. Submit all forms for flight 6/14/23. Pay for expedited shipping.
6/2/23, no word about my passport, submit my 14 day expedited request. Provide credit card info
6/3/23 get letter in mail: you never submitted your lost passport report…
6/5/23 submit form online. Go to passport office to verify “ah man, you better head straight to the federal building. That’ll be your only option.
6/6/23 drive an hour to federal building where they turn me down. Call profusely over 200 times to get someone on the phone. Calls drop, some folks answering tell me “looks like you have your 14 day request in. That’s all we can do”
6/7/23 more phone calls, more dead ends
6/8/23 get someone to push my call up “this sounds urgent let me get this call to someone above me who have help you” finally!
They go on to tell me there’s no appointments and nothing they can do.
I found a lot of helpful info here. What are my other options? Im calling my senators tomorrow. I don’t know what to even tell them.
I can’t miss this wedding and desperate.
Seen a lot of people talk about hidden phone numbers to call or something? What are my options?

2023.06.09 07:14 sailormoonaccount Dad accidentally filed a Credit/Debit Card Fraud Claim with Chase two days ago - can he reverse it?
I am in Los Angeles California:
My dad lets me use his credit cards through a PayPal account, he has 3 of them (which I honestly didn’t know until now) a few months ago one of his cards got hacked so he had to get a new one - this has happened many times before and every time I just go into his room and write down the new card number to install on PayPal.
Little did I know that the PayPal information for the type of card my dad has renewed automatically when he got his new replacement card, so I unknowingly put in a 3rd card of his I didn’t even know he had.
I think I accidentally made 4 purchases with this card? I also forgot that PayPal charges don’t go through right away or maybe my dad just didn’t see them until later.
Anyways so my dad came into my room on Monday night and asked if I charged multiple purchases that day - since he said it was on the day it currently was (which I did not make any purchases on Monday) I said I didn’t, I think he also got the name of one of the charges wrong and that’s also why I didn’t recognize it - he said the charge was from Insta
gram but in retrospect it might’ve been Insta
cart and he said the name wrong.
He then said that it couldn’t be me cause I don’t even know his 3rd Chase card - now today after I got emails from PayPal disputing my charges and limiting my account I realize my error. My dad already put in a claim of fraud at the bank (I think he did either Monday or Tuesday) and when I tried questioning him on the charges today he jumped on me and asked if it was me after all because if it was that’s a federal crime?
So um I guess my questions now are:
- If I confess to the mistake and my misunderstanding now, is it still too late for my dad to reverse the Fraud charges without getting in trouble? (Committing a Federal Crime) If he reverses it can PayPal withdraw their investigations?
- If it’s too late for my dad to reverse the claim without getting in trouble can I just stay quiet and never be found out? My PayPal account is currently limited now due to “suspicious/unauthorized activity” but if I let it remain limited and never reactivate it, will the alleged “fraud” never be found out? (I’m willing to take the L and lose my PayPal account permanently due to my own screw-up in exchange for me or my dad not getting charged with a Federal Crime if it’s too late to tell my dad to reverse it)
- Let’s say I do choose to “secure my account” would removing that 3rd card from my Wallet help?
Please, please, please help it was an honest mistake and I really don’t want either me or my dad to get in trouble with the law, the 4 purchases weren’t that huge either, all added up I think they only came to like $130 max - money my dad would willingly and easily pay just as long as he knew it wasn’t fraud.
Additional information: He also just got his new card that he ordered in the mail today (but hasn’t activated yet cause he isn’t home yet) does that make a difference? Like is it too late for him to reverse it without us being suspected of Fraud if he already got the new card in the mail? What about after he activates it? (Which will probably be till tommorow)
I also have my address and legal name on PayPal and they currently limited my account because “it’s not secure due to suspicious activity,” if I just leave it like that and never use it again would I still eventually be found out (if I choose not tell him - I’ll tell him as long as there’s still a possibility for him to reverse the fraud claims without either us getting in trouble) or they’ll never be able to trace it to me?
Does this email (I got 4 of them) from PayPal look like I still have time to reverse the claim(s) or does this mean the case is already closed?

2023.06.09 07:03 carnotaurussastrei To Start From the Beginning...
| My worldbuilding project (henceforth the "project") is a soft-SciFi, alternate history imagining of Earth's future. Before the truly original content starts to appear in the timeline, a few prior events must take place for my project to be realistic - in my mind, anyway. Mexican-American War, ca. 1848 After the Mexican-American War finished in real life, the United States gained huge amounts of Mexican land out West under the terms of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. February 2nd, 1848 is where the project officially detaches from real-world history somewhat, as the Treaty of GH (and James Knox Polk himself) saw Mexico cede about three-quarters of its territory, including the Yucatan Peninsular and Cuba. Something like this, although with borders less rigid and with the integral exception of Cuba. (Credit to u/binchops34) These new territories of Baja California, Sonora, Greater Chihuahua, and Yucatan remained territories of the US until 1888, 1911, 1896, and 1921 respectively. As such, these territories were unable to have a say in US politics during the Civil War and thus provided no exceptional contributions to the war, which ended in Union victory in 1864. World history continues from thence as we know, albeit with a considerably weaker Mexico and a slightly stronger United States. Importantly, the US's foreign policy was influenced beyond measure as a result of Polk's interference with the Treaty of GH - one might consider the US a colonial power now. Spanish-American War, ca. 1898 Among other causes, William McKinley's desire to improve US industry and overall global strength culminated in the Spanish-American war of 1898 which saw, as we know, Cuba, Guam, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico ceded to the United States. However, neither the Teller Amendment (1902) nor the Tydings-McDuffie Act (1934) was passed, leaving all Spanish secessions as American territory. With the US now being a colonial power, with colonies in the Pacific and Caribbean, their views of European colonialism was softened. Post World War II, ca. 1946-91 World War II devastated Europe and their colonies. Following the war in the late 40s and early 50s, some independence movements took hold across European colonial empires, especially in France, the Netherlands, and Britain. Although the French lost French Indochina, Israel was formed as we'd expect, and the Belgian Congo opted to remain a British protectorate for a decade after 1943 (as it was captured by Britain to prevent it falling into German hands. By the way, the British refused to grant independence, and it remained a protectorate), much of the British, Dutch, and some of the French empires remained. With an ally in the US, now pro-colonial, these nations kept hold of their empires for decades, which served in preventing many African civil wars. In the 70s, Spain and Portugal lost their empires as their authoritarian governments collapsed, even despite the strong empires remaining. In the 60s, South Africa became a British protectorate on par with Egypt and the Congo. Anyway, from now until 1991, history played out roughly the same - notably with Nicaragua taking the place of Cuba in the now Nicaraguan Missile Crisis of 1962, and with a more powerful Britain and France. Upon the gracing of 1996, the youngest son of Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales; and of Princess Camilla, the Princess of Wales; Prince Henry, was born (despite Charles and Camilla's middle-agedness... call it plot-forced pregnancy). With that, we reach the end of the project's historical context. Here we learnt that: - the US gained huge swathes of Mexico in the Mexican-American War which bolstered US support for colonialism and Manifest Destiny. - the US refused to grant independence to either Cuba or the Philippines after the Spanish-American War, as a result of the US' newfound support of colonialism. - World War II saw the collapse of the Belgian colonial empire, and its territories were effectively stolen by Britain. - After World War II, the French, British, Dutch, Portuguese, and Spanish empires remained (albeit with minor losses, such as French Indochina, and Israel), especially as a result of US support for colonialism. South Africa also became a British protectorate. - the Cold War continued as expected except for a Nicaraguan Missile Crisis rather than a Cuban one. - finally, the third and youngest son of Prince Charles, Prince Henry, was born in 1996. submitted by carnotaurussastrei to TheLandofHopeAndGlory [link] [comments] |

This number is far from accurate, as there are surely some humans caught up in it, but for now, it is the best number we can get without having a bigger universe. Eventually, we will have a more accurate method to get this number.
**This number does not account for the credit fees, etc, removed from the total pool amount. At the end of the game the total pool will likely be closer to ~$67k after credit card processing fees are deducted by MSCHF. 2023.06.09 05:27 AutisticPretzel Race Comp Engineering Yellow Springs + GTWorx/Bilstein Sportcup 2's Suspension (2016 STI)- A Review
| In an effort to contribute something worthwhile to the community, I figured I'd share my thoughts & experience with this setup now that I've had it for about 1200+ miles. When I was researching information on suspension setups on here, I didn't find a great deal of detailed information or firsthand experiences, so hopefully this help fills the gap. Overview - I primarily wanted a suspension setup that would get rid of most of the 2 1/2 finger wheel/fender gap but would also retain the ability to drive on a daily basis. The roads where I live aren't the worst by any means, but they certainly aren't prime either. My driveway is also fairly steep, so an excessive drop was out of the question, especially with an overpriced OEM lip. I never track my car nor plan to, so that didn't play a role in my decision. My other main focus was to go for something that didn't require a great deal of attention or maintenance after the fact. This pretty much eliminated coilovers as an option. Installation - I originally contacted my local tuner to have them install it because I had never done a suspension swap and was intimidated being new to the STI platform. They wanted around $800 - I'm not sure if this was reasonable or not but hearing that was all the motivation I needed to give it a go and install them myself. My dad and I got together and knocked it out. It honestly took about 8 hours altogether because we took our time but we ultimately got it done... And got it done correctly the first time. The instructions that come from Race Comp Engineering are ok, but they could use a bit of work in the clarification department. Some steps are a tad bit confusing since they mix WRX and STI installations together. A few more pictures during some of the steps would be beneficial but overall the instructions got the job done. It's also nice to note the instructions were easily downloadable online in the case you buy used. Overall the install was straightforward. One of the best parts about this setup is that the rear strut is adjustable in 5mm increments so you have the option to get rid of the 'reverse rake' that STI's come with from Subaru. I reused my OEM tophats without issue. The Ride - So, never having modified the suspension on all of my previous cars, I wasn't sure what to expect. The primary feedback of "lowering springs are shit. Get coilovers" that you typically see on this forum wasn't very helpful in setting my expectations. From the moment I pulled out of my driveway you can definitely feel a difference. You can certainly feel a bit more of the road when going over uneven, bumpy roads but I actually enjoy the feedback. For me, it felt like it took about 24 hours for everything to "settle in". During my first ride, I hit a metal manhole cover that was kind of deep and I won't lie, my soul temporarily left my body because it was so jarring. The fact I didn't expect it is probably what made it worse. I found myself clinching my butt cheeks going over other notable dips or bumps in the road for the rest of that ride. Fortunately, 1200 miles later, I haven't been able to replicate the experience... And I've gone over some pretty hellacious roads, including driving through the streets of Philadelphia and DC. It's very true what they say in that you become accustomed to the ride quickly. After 48 hours, everything felt "normal" and I found myself not going out of my way to avoid notable bumps and imperfections in the road. The car definitely felt more grounded going around corners and taking I-95/I-64 on-ramps at higher speeds. Body roll was noticeably reduced along with the car "nose diving" when braking hard at higher speeds. Conclusion - I'm very very satisfied with this setup as a whole. I think it's hands down the best non-coilover setup you can go for on this car. I also believe it provides the perfect drop for a daily driver. It's front lip and speedbump friendly but also gets rid of enough of the fender gap to be noticeable. If you're looking for a low maintenance option to lower you vehicle without sacrificing performance, this is it. I understand that brand new, this setup runs just about as much as a set of low/mid-tier level of coilovers but I would rather go this route as long as adjustability isn't a priority or need. One thing of note - I would recommend staying away from only going with lowering springs without upgrading the other components even though these are advertised to work with the stock shocks and struts.... I can see the ride being noticeably harsher and much less forgiving. I don't have a problem with ppl cheaping out on cosmetic enhancements, but components as vital as your suspension isn't the place to cut corners. (No pun intended) TL:DR - This is a great setup that offers a solid level of performance, maintains a level of daily driveability without the maintenance concerns of coilovers. I'd highly recommend! 2023.06.09 05:04 Ms_Tyree New info for shopping abroad (CAS #s)
CAS NUMBERS: I spent a lot of time today trying to find a good and inexpensive supplier for Tirz online; for most of the overseas sources, sometimes it would say Tirzepatide but it was only for "GLP-1," which is actually Semaglutide.
I found a trick that might help you make sure you get the right thing: the "CAS number" tells you what the product is, and it's universal. Whatever you're buying should have the following numbers. It was a breeze shopping after that, though sometimes the numbers are also preceded by another number, like 2023 which is not shown for the Semaglutide below. I think that just tells you the batch date, basically, but I'm not an expert.
- Tirzepatide: 2023788-19-2
- Semaglutide: 910463-68-2
- Bacteriostatic water: 7732-18-5 (but it seems that may possibly be a more general "scientific water" number, so be sure it says either 0.9% alcohol in it, or sterile water for injection, or specifically says bacteriostatic - you get the idea!)
If you want CAS of anything else, just Google "What is the CAS number for (whatever)."
PRICES: I found a supplier who does $320-$350 SHIPPED for 10x10ml Tirzepatide and $240-$260 SHIPPED for 10x10ml Semaglutide. Those lower prices are for box quantity multiples, and unfortunately they did not have bacteriostatic water, but I can easily source that elsewhere.
PAYMENT: They took Paypal, though the rep did try to get me to use a different method due to the charges they incur from Paypal; anything under $1k they don't balk at, but orders over $1k they do prefer Western Union, Bitcoin or bank transfer to avoid the fees. Their third-party-seller site also says they take credit cards.
RECEIPT: Turn-around time to process, according to the rep (who was quite good at customer service and immediately responsive to my online request for quote), is 2 days, then 15 days until delivery to US. I am cautiously optimistic, but of course I'm hoping it's not too good to be true. I'll update this when product is received, for future seekers.
MORE INFO: Obviously I can't put vendor info here, but feel free to DM if you're gonna watch the thread and want the details for your own info, in case it works out.
