Hi everyone,
I’m starting the divorce process and I’m looking for advice. My husband and I have been married for 1 year and 7 months to date. We both work full time, I attend graduate school part time (my job pays for school through tuition reimbursement). His earnings are just over twice what I earn. We are in the state of CA. No kids, no shared assets. We are renting. Cars are separate property and I still owe on mine.
Basically we initially tried to agree to work things out ourselves and limit court costs and possible lawyer fees, but he’s being very non-cooperative and manipulative through the process and I think I might have to hire a lawyer after all.
Here’s our situation: - I have student loans (prior to marriage) and a $13,000 personal loan that was taken out during the marriage (in my name) used for credit card debt consolidation. Most of the credit card debt was accrued before the marriage but not all. All student loans are mine from prior to the marriage. - He has no debt. He claims we owe his dad $10,000 which was a loan that he pressured me into agreeing to accept, but it was never in writing and no payments have been made on it for the past six months. Mostly because he’s wanted to purchase other things and pay for fun events rather than pay his dad back. - We have no savings. - We are leasing a house and there is a security deposit associated with the move in - We have some community property in terms of items in the household, valued at around $8000. Everything else was technically purchased while we were dating and living together but not DURING the marriage.
Here’s where I feel I need a lawyer: - He threatened to get us evicted by not paying rent if I continued to live here in a separate bedroom throughout the remainder of the lease. Saying it’s not his problem that I don’t have the financial status to live here. So essentially I’m being pushed out of my home with no time to save up for a transition to a new residence while I assume all of my bills without his support in a dual income household any longer. Almost my entire paycheck goes into our household every time I’m paid, so it’s not like I’m not contributing financially. And my livelihood is made here, so he doesn’t get to just decide I don’t have the right to live where I work. I’ve lived in this town for 13 years and survived just fine without him prior to our relationship. - He’s switching around on what the money from his dad is…. First he claimed that the money was a loan that we owed him (nothing is in writing and no payments have been made in over six months). The money was given to him in cash, deposited into his personal account, and used for purchases when we moved into our house. He can’t prove exactly which purchases he made with the money. Of course I assumed this was marital debt and intended to pay his dad back as part of our financial plans, but then he switched to saying that money is actually a gift/inheritance from his dad to him. And that anything he’s bought with it is his alone and not mine for the taking when I move out. I said I didn’t want the money from his dad from the very beginning, but he pressured me into letting him accept it. Then every month since I’ve been trying to convince him that we should make payments, but he would instead put it off and say “he doesn’t need the money right now we can pay him later.” - Then there’s the issue of the lease deposit, he won’t acknowledge that I’m entitled to half of it because that was paid with the dad loan money so it’s all his (I have no idea if he’s calling it a gift or a loan anymore).
So I’m just confused on what to do and how to move forward. I’m getting approval from my job to temporarily work remote and live with family out of state so that I can save properly since he’s pushed me out of my home. In the meantime he’s telling me I can’t take anything out of the house because it was either bought by him before the marriage or bought using his dad’s money. And he’s also saying I can’t have my half of the deposit back and I can get an attorney if I want to fight him on it. All the while saying I owe his dad for the loan in addition to taking back ALL of my debt and bills.
It’s worth noting that he’s made the home very uncomfortable for me while I’ve been here, removing all of my decorations and replacing with his own, taking over the master bedroom and kicking me out of it, telling me it’s not his responsibility that I don’t have financial means to find an alternate residence in San Diego on a whim. He also initiated the divorce and has refused my requests for us to go to couple’s counseling for over a year. ALSO, throughout our relationship and marriage, I’ve only kept a small portion of my paychecks for personal expenses and shopping, and he allotted himself twice as much for purchasing whatever he wants every month.
Obviously I’m in a manipulative and controlling relationship, I just want what’s fair.
I’m wondering if anyone has been through a similar experience with hiring a lawyer for their divorce and how difficult it is to have the lawyer fees paid for by an uncooperative spouse? If he has his way and we go the lawyer free route, I’m leaving with nothing. I did some research and I might be able to request temporary spousal support since he makes so much more than I do, but I know he will fight me on it.
Only other thing of note is that my husband also gave me a loan for a portion of my credit card debt when we were still dating (nothing in writing, just a transfer to my account) and I began to repay him at that time, once we married he said it’s not something I have to pay him back for anymore because it’s “our” money from now on. But now he’s coming after me to pay him for that money as well. He didn’t even have the amount correct when he was making this demand. He said I would owe him $18K and it was actually $14K.
He’s also trying to convince me not to claim the split of the 401K and pension marital assets. I have these benefits as well (we work at the same company), but because he makes over double what I earn, I would be owed the difference. He called me a leech and said he worked hard for those benefits and it’s crazy that I would go after that.
Fun stuff! Any thoughts and opinions are much appreciated. Is a lawyer worth it? I was hoping we could just get into agreement over splitting these things up as we don’t have much in terms of assets and we haven’t even been married two years yet (together and living together for almost 4).
TLDR: We haven’t been married long and have little in terms of assets and shared debts. But is it worth the expense of a lawyer to defend myself against my husband’s uncooperative demands and avoid letting him push me out with nothing?

Don't really need the award miles from airlines, just really enjoy the lounge access the airline cards give. Do you have any cards you've been looking at?
Been looking at the amex marrior bonvoy brilliant for the status and hotel lounge access but not sure if its worth opening a card for those reasons. Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card?
If you have any advice for a next card that would be good with my set up let me know.

I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan; I re-read the books typically once a year. I also adore the movies, and find all of Tolkien's legendarium absolutely awesome. Truly one of my favorite hobbies so I'd like to offer some critiques and excitement of flavor gems from Tales of Middle Earth. I won't do every card, but I'll comment on some individual cards and how WOTC did on it. I will comment on the cards abilities but only insofar as it impacts the flavor; i.e. what the card is doing not power level, etc.
To be clear: I understand there are sacrifices you need to make for the greater game, and sometimes those come first. For these articles: I am looking at each card in a vacuum, so if I seem harsh it's because I am using a single lens.

Flavor Preface
Bill does not show up in the films, but he is a minor antagonist when Frodo reaches Bree. When Frodo reaches Bree Sauron has already sent southern agents into the town to infiltrate it and gain local allies. Bill Ferny is one of the local Bree men who is cooperating with the agents of Mordor. It is hinted that Bill lets all of the horses in The Prancing Pony and forces Frodo's group to buy the last available pony in town: Bill the Pony (already discussed).
He later becomes one of Saruman's agents during the Scouring of the Shire.
Color
I would have made Bill Ferny black, not blue. They are playing into Bill's role as a swindler (and indeed he is) but I think the more apt comparison is of a collaborator. Bill is in it to survive and for personal profit: that's black.
Abilities
Not a ton is known about Bill's specific abilities so I don't mind some general abilities. I like the "create a treasure token" if he's blocked because its flavor of him stealing from you. The ability of your opponents taking your horses and you get tokens is neat (as Bill sold horses for money). Overall I can't complain too loudly. I smiled. I do wish he was a 1/2 instead of a 2/1 so he lives if he's blocked more often.

In my previous post I said my old setup got banged up during travel to UK. This is gonna be my first build and I'm ordering everything online (scared to honestly). I just want to ask if pc part picker also check compatibility of cables and such (if there's enough, the right kind of cable for say GPU, and any additional SATA cable I may need or adaptor). Should I also be worried if the PSU cable can't reach here or there. CPU cooler too big to close the case. Those kinds of things 😅

I'll copy my wishlist below. I would love it if you helped me choose what to prioritize. Consider that my goal is becoming as self-sufficient as possible by 2040 (I have a piece of land) and take into account that I want to live without electricity as much as possible because

1. I want to do my part for the planet even if it's just a drop in the ocean
   
2. The power grid and the supply chain are a fragile thing in my mind
   
3. I like some aspects of anprim -anarchoprimitivist- philosophy (even if I don't like the inherent ableism and one infamous person who defamed the whole group with his disregard for human life) and think that humans evolved in a very different environment from the one we live in and that our brains are happier in that environment because they were shaped by it for hundreds of millennia

My situation and budget:
I get about 350€ every month (+ about 800-1000€ around Christmas) and have to use them to buy:
-food (not all of it, another person buys mostly fresh fruit, fresh vegs and fresh meat so I only need to pay for grains, legumes, canned and frozen things, -mostly vegetable- milk, and fish. We take turns for cheese and water. If I eliminated "my things" from my diet I'd still have to contribute about 50% of the expenses for food)
-small expenses like gifts
-occasionally courses and b&b stays (not for vacations, but to learn new skills and build community on the road to self sufficiency)
-relationship-building objects (things that people I want to be friends with make, like cheese and honey if I want to befriend some farmers I would like to be taken as an "apprentice" by, or attending a course I wouldn't sign up for otherwise because a friend is the teacher)
-other groceries like hygiene products
-hand-tools and materials for my goal of self-sufficiency
-hand tools and materials to hopefully teach a course about primitive skills in the future
-"preppers items" (like radio, water filter...)
-physical books
-private lessons (I would love to have a botany expert guide me occasionally for example, or to take some lessons from a good blacksmith I know)
-ideally I would want to keep some savings for emergencies, unexpected expenses, heavily discounted and second hand items, and opportunities that might open...But I'm also among the people that would be hit the strongest by hyperinflation (and I was a theft victim recently and lost quite a bit) so I don't want to have too much savings at the same time. Please DON'T tell me "forget about buying things and save at least 6 months of expenses blah blah": it's reasonable but it's not something I need to hear from other people and it's not ideal in my situation for many personal reasons

it's very hard to have a bookstore-- let alone FIND a bookstore for cheap prices. at the public library, there is a very small bookstore that does not have a ton of options in comparison to the amount of the older, small paperback romances. but i really like how the prices range from .50¢ to $1.50.
i know i get happy to see a book i've been looking for is cheap compared to the prices on amazon or B&N. but even if i want to ask for donations, i still can't help but overthink about selling the books that did belong to someone once. i know people donate all the time, (like in goodwill, but that's an actual business & i am just one person) but i just need to settle this thought once and for all. any advice?

I've decided to upgrade my Q800 Pro to the new U3000 and the launch special bundle with the iVolt Xtra battery pack for $800 seemed like a decent deal, especially since I did kind of want a battery pack due to having short commutes that don't charge my car battery enough for longer parking mode. Still a bit more than I would have liked to spend but whatever; it'll be nice to have decent length parking mode again.
Anyway, according to this post, it doesn't seem like the cabling for the Q800 Pro and U3000 are compatible. Would I be able to just use an adapter like this to continue using the existing cables already installed in my car? Is 2.4A enough to power the cameras?
My current camera is mounted on the driver side, and I've got one of those huge safety radar housing thingies behind the rear view mirror which makes it impossible to mount the camera exactly in the center. I see that the U3000 has the micro SD card slot on the right side, so if mounted on the driver side, it would not be possible to remove the card unless you either mount the camera away from the radar housing, or take the camera off the mount before removing the card. The review at PC World mentions that the camera slides left to get it off the mount which makes it sound like it shouldn't be hard to remove if mounted on the driver side. (The Q800 Pro slides to the right, iirc, which always made it a little difficult to remove.) Anyone have experience with a driver-side mounted camera where the card slot is on the right side of the camera? I do wish they kept it top loading like with the Q800 Pro.
For those of you who street park, how is the parking mode with regards to tons of clips? We have a lot of cars that come down the street where I live and I don't really want to have like a hundred parking mode clips. Would it just be better to do time-lapse recording rather than motion detection in that case? I know the U3000 has the built-in radar module and it'd be nice be able to put that to use and have extended parking mode, but I wonder if all the cars going by would just continuously trip the motion detection, even if the radar setting is set to something like 1 meter.
If you would rather have better video of license plates, would you opt for 2K quality and 60 fps with the bitrate at 30 Mb/s? What are the recommended settings for having better chances of catching clearer license plates?
Feel free to discuss anything else about the U3000 here. I would like to hear others' thoughts on the camera, but if you're just going to say "you should have gotten blah blah blah instead" then please kindly hold onto those thoughts. I know there are other cheaper options out there but Thinkware has been pretty good for me over the years, so this is my choice.

Hi guys, my laptop broke for no aparent reason. Have taken it to two places and they can't seem to be able to fix it. That started me down a rabbit hole, for my next investment, and I mostly use it at home. So I have decided to do a build for my desk and just buy a cheap laptop or tablet for when I travel. So I found a really good computer deal, and I want to order this computer from america, I'm a Canadian citizen sadly and I'm in Canada and I really want this computer from the states but anytime I try to order it it sends me to the damn homepage. This website is absolutely horrible, the UI is notoriously bad and everything about Newegg as far as it's overall layout and website goes is disgustingly horrible. My blood is boiling, because all I'm trying to do is order a damn computer, and they make it a gigantic hassle. The mere fact that I'm even making this threat is a testament to how bad New Egg is.
The only reason I even use Newegg is for the deals, I used to use Amazon but Amazon doesn't have good deals or options but at least I can order a damn computer from them without having to worry about not being able to fill in certain things. Not only that but my address information should have been saved, why is it that Newegg always forgets my address information? Disgusting.
Anyways, rant aside I really want to know if I can order this computer from Canada and have it shipped to me from america.
