2023.06.08 04:40 placeholderNull It's my last year as a scout. What should I do to make the most of my time?

It's occured to me that this is my last year before I age out and can't earn anything else. Scouting is hands-down the most important aspect of my life and has been since the first grade. With summer coming up, what merit badges, activities, awards, etc. Should I try to accomplish before Summer 2024 so I can enjoy what's left of my time and have something to show for it?
Some notes:
-I have already earned my Eagle, and am currently trying to get into Order of the Arrow -I cannot go to scout camp before my 18th birthday -I have access to bodies of water, snow, and tons of wilderness in my state
Any and all advice is appreciated. Thank you so much, fellow scouts!

2023.06.08 03:34 TiffM2022 How to fill the gap?

I am asking for my son's friend. He was accepted to Duquesne University and he was given some financial aid from the college, but after only $5500 direct loans, he still need about $30k per year to attend the school. I saw on another post here the PA forward loans so he is going to look into that. I told him to avoid private loans. I am surprised he did not receive more aid from the school, as he is an eagle scout, and excellent student, enrolled in many activities and volunteer projects. Besides his parents having to take out plus loans, does anyone have advice on the best funding programs he can take advantage of? Thank you!

2023.06.08 03:16 Fabulous-Letter-5649 Engineer retires, and is replaced with a Human (Pt 5)

Pt 1 If you haven't read it

Pt 2 If you haven't read it

Pt 3 If you haven't read it

Pt 4 If you haven't read it

To address a point brought up in the comments in Pt 4 about the spread of diseases, since any bacteria or virus would have to evolve to cross the species barrier, the spread of diseases to other species only start to become a concern after prolonged contact, and that's assuming it would even evolve to do that in the first place.

Hope you enjoy Pt 5 and happy reading!

After setting up the sound isolators, Will walked over to the portable synthesizer and used it to print these bottles which he then brought into the bathroom, which he had opened the door for. Along with the strange white opaque bottles he also brought that same pair of shorts that he had worn last night, presumably to change into. I think I much preferred it to a human's sleep. Sure it can be boring at times, and because half your brain is off everything feels kind of funky and you lack depth perception, but I just couldn't imagine what it would like to be totally unaware of my surroundings for so long.
Eventually, not too long after he closed the door, I heard these coughing sounds from the bathroom, I suppose when he took off his shawl to give some of it to me he must've inhaled too much dust. That was a really nice thing he did for me. I heard the toiled flushing and shortly thereafter the shower turn on. Wait a minute. Will had only had one meal today! and I haven't eaten at all! But yet, I'm not hungry, now that I think about it this planet seems to have a much faster day-night cycle, at least a half of what I'm used to. Not too long after he finished using the toilet, he began his shower, which didn't last very long, I just hope it's long enough to get that smell off of him.
He exited the bathroom, his damp skin glistening in the warm glow of the lightbulb. It struck me once more, this time much more so as I was closer to him and the lighting was better, just how tightly human skin hugs the body. Even with no depth perception I could still make out a significant number of the muscle groups. He didn't seem to notice my staring, all he did was sit down at the desk and watch a live feed of Kepler on his communicator, who, for the record I still don't trust. I may trust Will, but not Kepler, I will never trust that thing. Eventually, he got up and walked over to his bed, laying down in between the blanket and the mattress, only letting his head poke out, which faced away from me.
A few hours later, as the warm, red light of Ix crept in through the blinds, and the hunger became too much to ignore, I got up, slowly though as my back was rather displeased by the amount of time I had spent lying down. I stretched, and walked around a bit to try and clear out some of that fogginess that tends to linger after hibernation a bit quicker. Big day ahead. Glancing over at Will I noticed he was still asleep, which looked quite funny, eyes closed, drool was leaking from his mouth, occasionally twitching. He looked quite peaceful, cute even. By the time he had woken up, I had already gotten my UV cleanse done, and since he had taken a shower last night, he would need is paint inspected for any cracking, of which I would have to help with since he lacks proper motor function in his right hand. While I waited for him to be done changing in the bathroom, I used the synthesizer to print me a Nutrition Pack, which of course would remedy my hunger. I also tried to print his breakfast for him but apparently only he is allowed to print the hazardous chemicals, which makes sense I suppose. Instead I read over his report he made, was just detailing local flora and small fauna, infrastructure, weather data, architecture, etc, etc. All things considered I was quite proud of how he did.
"Hey so uhh, I wasn't sure if you noticed but, the day-night cycle here, super short." Will said, exiting the bathroom.
"I was just about to tell you that! Oh by the way I tried to print your breakfast but it refused since it included caffeine."
"Well thanks for trying but we typically eat different things for each meal, the categorization really depends on the person, but personally" he walked over to me and leaned over the table, inputting some numbers into the keypad.
"I really like to go for a BLT, some chips with a glass of water for my lunches." He said as the synthesizer spun into action once more.
"What's that?" I asked
"You wanna try it?" Will responded, side-eyeing me.
"Well.. no."
"Can you just tell me what it is?"
"Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayonnaise, Everything bagel seasoning, bread, and some thinly sliced, fried potatoes."
"I think I'm sticking with my Nutrition Packs for now."
Will rolled his eyes, and with time to kill before we had to leave to catch the train we just talked some more.
"So has Captain Reloxyn responded to your report yet?"
"Mmm yeah, she said, let's see.. ah, "Good work, forwarding to Central Command.""
"Best response you can hope for."
"Really? Huh. Was expecting something with a bit more... personality."
"We all do at first, but the Federation is adamant that protocol be followed strictly to the letter in dealing with Pre-FTL societies, don't want to risk them finding out."
"I see, let's just hope I don't try to modify that synthesizer again." Will joked.
"You know, you'd make a great surveyor, you should put in a transfer request."
"Well that's new, usually I'm the one suggesting these kinds of things."
"But no, I think I'm good. I quite like being an engineer."
"Oh will you... looks like you got a little something around your mouth."
"Shit I do." He said straining his neck to glance over into the mirror.
"Eh, no biggie, I'm just gonna wipe it off with a paper towel." He said, inputting a new code for the synthesizer.
"So how's the Nutrition Pack treating you so far?"
"Just as flavorless as ever!" I said with a massive, very Will-like grin on my face.
After double checking all the disguise makeup was all intact, we both got ready to go leave to catch the train to Hl'ix. Once we got into the lobby Will tapped the bell on the check out desk to call for a receptionist, who turned out to be the same woman that checked us in the night prior.
"Leaving so soon! You haven't even gotten a chance to explore!" She said, rounding the corner to face Will.
"Yeah well we have a train to catch in about half an hour so we should probably be heading out soon."
"Well in that case your total is $40!"
Will glanced at me in terror, having entirely forgotten the matter of the bill. I got up bringing all our stuff with me over to the desk so I could manage it. Once I got there I reached into a pouch and pulled out the exact amount requested in local currency. Scouts always keep a very small synthesizer on them to produce currency.
"Here you go." I said handing her the money.
"Well have a great day and good luck on your travels!" Za'ul said as we left the building.
Thankfully the wind had died down, Will released another Weather Sheet for data recording, and gave me the weather run down, though this time much briefer than last time.
"It's nice out." He said
"Great, now which way to the train station?" I asked.
Will turned around scanning his environment.
"There! Look, here's a sign pointing to the train station, see, not that far!"
The sign read 1 kilometer, so it would probably take me about 20 minutes. Zorxians like myself aren't exactly known for our speed.
"Hold on, I'll take your stuff." Will graciously offered.
"Oh thank you!" I responded, handing him my suitcase.
Thanks to Will carrying my things for me, we made it to the station in about 18 minutes.
"Hi, could we have two tickets on the 10:30 to Hl'ix?" Will said to the ticket agent.
"Sure thing, here's your tickets! Enjoy your trip!"
Will walked over to me with the two paper slips in hand.
"Just got a transmission from Captain, a day here is about 16 hours. 8 hours of sun, 8 hours of night." He said, talking quietly as to not arouse suspicion in the waiting area.
"10 minutes until the train gets here." He said once again, though in a much less secretive tone.
We both made our way over to the platform. Will handed me my ticket, which indicated a private cabin was booked so we could discuss things without revealing our identities. The train was nice, with a reddish carpet illuminated by the same temperature lighting as from the hotel. The car we entered had a hallway running along the right side of the car, with about 6 rooms to a train. Each room was separated by a glass door which slid open and closed, and could be locked. I closed and locked the door behind me, and Will placed down the sound dampeners in the four corners of the room. Inside were two long couch like chairs running perpendicular to the window, with a table about 2/3rds the length of the room running down the middle. Above the seating were some racks for luggage, but not wanting to risk forgetting even the smallest of things, we placed our luggage right next to ourselves, as we sat opposite from each other.
"So, we should start going over some of our observations so far for the first full report." I said, pulling my notepad out of one of the pouches on my suitcase.
"Yeah, sure thing." Will responded, doing the same thing as I had just done by taking his notepad out.
"One thing I've noticed is that this planet never developed the use of hydrocarbons. When Earth was at this stage in development, we used them everywhere. Not saying it's a bad thing they don't use them, actually it's a good thing, just something I find strange. Looking at the planet's age one would assume that they'd have access to such recourse."
"Well, we used fossil fuels for a short while, but we ditched them long before we got here, technologically speaking."
"Huh. I wonder if we're an outlier, wouldn't be the first time." Will chuckled.
"How come you stayed with them so long?" I asked
"Weren't you aware of how dangerous they were?" I followed up.
"Oh we were, we know just how bad they could be. Now, this was prior to when we achieved post-scarcity so things were a little... complicated, so I'll try to sum things up. Basically, a very small number of people had amassed massive fortunes off of selling and trading fossil fuels, now at this time corruption was rampant, so they used these fortunes to maintain their dominance without actually needing to do anything. They lied to everyone, they influenced policies, funded denial, and tried to keep the science quiet. Things eventually thought got out of hand and it became impossible to deny, at least, outright denial. So instead they just stalled action, prolonged it, made it less effective, and in some cases, reversed it. Things got really bad. But, humans are resilient creatures, and sure, we caused a mass extinction event in the process, but eventually we picked up the pieces, and slowly but surely, reversed the damage we had done."
I had heard of civilization that had gone down that route before, I had even done a scout mission on one of those worlds before, but all that was left were graveyards.
"That's horrifying..." I responded.
"Yeah... that tends to be the reaction I get when I talk about our history. We did some pretty fucked up shit."
"Why...?"
Will sighed.
"It's just, humans are a diverse species, and you meet, more often than not, just some really wonderful people, but... there's also an astonishingly high number of shitheads. And for most of our history, we had societal structures that rewarded these shitheads."
"Huh."
"I should still include that right... the part about no fossil fuels?" He asked.
"Yeah, but just know it's not that big of a deal." I answered.
"Got it."
My communicator beeped.
"Looks like I'm getting a transmission from the ship."
"What does it say?" Will asked as he craned his neck over to me.
"Well it's a weather model, it looks like those big wind and dust storms happen every couple of days- our days I should say, we just happened to be a little bit unlucky with timing our landing."
"Right, when does it say the next one's coming?" Will sat back down in his seat.
"Not for another 3 us days, or about 5 days here."
"You know, I really wasn't a fan of the whole using the local days for sleeping. I much prefer the 24 hour days I've gotten used to on the ship."
"Yes I too agree, but it would be far too risky to do so."
"Suppose." Will said, turning his head to face the window.
"So could you tell me a bit more about your family?" I asked Will.
"Well, I already told you about Mike, he was just an absolute shithead, you already know that. My sister, Kim, she's wonderful. A few years older than me, my parents adopted her since they weren't sure if it was safe to have another kid after Mike... but here I am! So the doctor got that one wrong! Anyways, she helped me a lot, with school, dealing with Mike's bullshit, friends, she was the first person I told I was gay. I don't know where I'd be without her. My dad, he was an inspector for the Department of Agriculture, so always away stars know where to inspect some farm. My mom was a surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital so always dealing with some kind of medical emergency. That's why Mike was able to make my life so fucking miserable for so long, that and he had all his friends do it for him, plausible deniability and all that shit. When I was 12 my mom got this promotion, which meant my dad could quit and stay home, so Mike stopped but that's when he got his friends to do it for him. Eventually when my mom retired a few years later she found out about the shit he did and got his friends to do it for him and cut him off while he was away at University. It served as a wakeup call for Mike, he's now a maintenance technician, inspecting buildings, roads, train tracks, all that stuff. I'm kind of glad he got his shit together, he did apologize, I know he means well now and I do think he's made a change for the better, but it's just so hard to forgive him. Kim, she works for The Federation too, but as one of their ambassadors at the Lunar Embassy on Shackleton Crater."
Unlike last time I asked him, his eyes didn't well up, but he just kept rubbing his face, making the skin all puffy.
"Oh, careful you don't rub the makeup off." I told him.
"I'm thirsty I... I should get some water."
Will opened up his suitcase to grab the synthesizer, pressing a few buttons and quickly making a bottle of water before quickly putting the synthesizer back. I decided it was wise to do the same, but instead grabbing a Nutrient Drink from the outermost pouch of my suitcase. After chugging down the entire bottle, Will turned to me once more and asked:
"Right Tomō, now you have to tell me more about your family."
"So my parents were both professors at the University of Lenage, my mom was a Professor of Language Development and my dad was a Professor of Anthropology, they would often go on research trips together all over The Federation, and since they went together they would bring me, and eventually my brother, along with them. I suppose that's where I developed my interest in Pre-FTL scouting."
"Damn." Will chuckled.
"You know, I don't really blame my parents, I used to, but they did their best. Mom had a late start to her career, didn't realize she wanted to be a surgeon until she was 28, and my dad quit as soon as he could, plus he kept trying to get transferred to a different department so he wouldn't have to travel. They did everything they could."
"KCHH This is the conductor speaking just wanted to give you all a heads up that we are now on final approach to Hl'ix Central with an ETA of 5 minutes. Please start getting ready to disembark. KCHH"
We both stood up, Will collected his things, and I collected mine. He packed up the sound dampeners and we both did a second inspection of each other's sides to make sure we didn't miss anything. By the time we had finished doing so I unlocked the door to the room, and stood in the line that began to form out the door as the train slowly rolled to a stop.
*ding*
The doors had open and we all began to make our way out the car, we both walked over to the right side of the station marked "EXIT" we made no time to inspect the station hall, as to not arouse suspicion. upon exiting we were greeted by buildings no higher than 15 floors, though much taller buildings could be seen under construction off in the distance. That, and the metro station entrance across the street being marked as "Central Station/Historic Hl'ix" lead me to conclude that they had decided to preserve the older, more centrally located parts of their city, and push the newer developments further away.
"There!" Will said over the sound of the crowded sidewalks and jammed roads
"Hotel!"
"Okay!" I shouted back.
The light to cross the street changed and we made our way across and down the block, arriving at the hotel just a few moments later. Upon entering, the building was far nicer than the one we had stayed at in Urup, and Will darted to the check in desk to get us a room, I followed suit.
"Hi there! My name is Rozca, what can I do for you?" The man behind the desk said to Will as he approached.
"Well we would like a room, preferably one on your top floor."
"Well sir, the top floor only has suites, and suites only have one bed, unless one of you sleeps on the pull-out."
After a few seconds of deliberation Will responded.
"Sure thing we'll take that."
"Alright and for how long will you be staying with us?"
"Just for 3 nights."
"Alright, your total is $3,650."
"Here you go." Will said, pulling the money out of the small pouch I had handed him earlier.
"Your room is 1507, Enjoy your stay!"
After grabbing two keys, one for each of us and handing me my copy, we headed over to the elevator, got in, went up to the 15th floor, walked over to our room and dropped our luggage off. Will gestured for me to come inside.
"So, we need a plan for exploring the city." Will said once he had placed down the sound barriers.
"Now I propose that we take the train over to where all the new development is, and meet back at the metro station over there around dusk to head back here." He said standing back up.
"And we can put these trackers on each other so we know where we are." I said, rummaging through my suitcase to grab the tiny, transparent, tracking beacons that adhere to the skin.
"Found them!" I said holding the labeled baggie.
Carefully taking one out I placed it on his right forearm, which felt strange to the touch as I was able to feel the muscle fibers lying beneath the skin. Then, taking the other one out, Will placed it on my right forearm, which I'm sure must've felt equally strange to his touch, the loose skin sliding around. Afterwards, we took our communicators and paired them to each other's beacons.
We both left the room shortly afterwards making sure to lock the door behind me as I left. Heading out the lobby back into the busy sidewalk we made our way to the metro station, descending into the cool underground tunnel. We both bought our tickets, with the train arriving just moments after we got to the platform. The train itself was quite crowded, and a quick change of gloves made it socially acceptable to grab onto the straps hanging from the ceiling. The ride itself only lasted about 8 minutes, stopping at about 3 places along the way. We got the ticket hole punched on the way out, walked up the stairs and went our separate ways to observe and explore the more modern parts of town.
After about 10 minutes of walking I paused to take in my surroundings, craning my neck upwards to examine the under-construction skyscrapers. Lost in observation however, I failed to notice a vehicle coming my way.
I heard the whirr of the electric motors but it was far too late.
I heard the gravel cracking beneath the spinning tires, but I failed to pay any attention to it.
It was only when I felt the hand grab onto the back of my sweater that I finally, truly, paid attention to what was happening.
And now, I found myself in the back of a van, and a piece of black cloth covering my eyes, with another one stuffed into my mouth.

Looks like I'm going to leave it off there on a nice cliffhanger, Pt 6 should be coming out Friday since that one's going to be quite the action packed part. Hope you enjoyed!

2023.06.08 02:19 stankdiggy Matthew Furlong - Contract and severance package details...

So the announcement of Furlong resigning or being terminated (It doesn't matter which) made me wonder if he had any stock options or other things vesting as part of a severance package. It might have been neato if he was granted a large number of shares as part of his departure that might have made interesting orders into the ecosystem.
Alas, this is not the case... see details below:

åItem 5.02 Departure of Directors or Certain Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Certain Officers; Compensatory Arrangements of Certain Officers.
Appointment of President and Chief Executive Officer
On June 9, 2021, the GameStop Corp. (the “Company”) announced the appointment of Matthew Furlong, age 42, as the Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, effective on or about June 21, 2021. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Furlong served as Country Leader, Australia for Amazon.com, Inc. (“Amazon”) since September 2019 and in various other roles at Amazon since October 2012, including as Director, Technical Advisor, Amazon North America. Prior to joining Amazon, Mr. Furlong served in various roles at The Procter & Gamble Company focused on brand, marketing and sales strategies.
In connection with his appointment as the Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, the Company entered into a letter agreement with Mr. Furlong on June 9, 2021 describing the basic terms of his employment (the “Furlong Letter Agreement”). The Furlong Letter Agreement provides that Mr. Furlong’s starting annualized base salary will be $200,000 and that he will also be eligible to earn a total of $4,700,000 in sign-on bonuses, paid in 24 monthly installments, subject to his continuous employment with the Company through the payment date of the applicable installment unless he is terminated by the Company without Cause (as defined in the Furlong Letter Agreement). In each of the first 12 months of his employment with the Company, Mr. Furlong will receive a sign-on bonus installment of $229,167. In each of months 13 through 24 of his employment with the Company, Mr. Furlong will receive a sign-on bonus installment of $162,500. Mr. Furlong is also entitled to a relocation bonus in the amount of $250,000 to assist with the costs of his relocation to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The Furlong Letter Agreement also provides that, on the first business day of the first calendar quarter that commences after the effective date of his employment, Mr. Furlong will be entitled to a grant of a number of restricted stock units or restricted shares of the Company’s Class A common stock determined by dividing $16,500,000 by the average closing price of the Company’s Class A common stock for the 30 trading days immediately preceding the grant date (the “Initial Equity Award”). This equity award will vest as follows: 5% on the first anniversary of the grant date, 15% on the second anniversary of the grant date, and 20% on each of the dates that are 30, 36, 42 and 48 months following the grant date, subject in each case to his continuous service to the Company through the applicable vesting date. Finally, the Furlong Letter Agreement provides that Mr. Furlong’s employment is conditioned on his execution of a non-competition, non-solicitation and confidentiality agreement.
Under the Furlong Letter Agreement, if Mr. Furlong’s employment is terminated by the Company without Cause (as defined in the Furlong Letter Agreement), he will be entitled to receive the following severance benefits: (i) an amount equal to six months of his base salary, (ii) an amount equal to six months of COBRA premiums for Mr. Furlong and his eligible dependents, (iii) any sign-on bonus installments which then remain unpaid and (iv) the vesting of that portion of the Initial Equity Grant, if any, that was otherwise scheduled to vest in the ordinary course during the six month period immediately following his termination date. Mr. Furlong’s eligibility for these severance benefits is subject to his execution of a release of claims against the Company and his compliance with any applicable post-employment covenants.
The foregoing description of the Furlong Letter Agreement is not complete and is qualified in its entirety by the full text of the Furlong Letter Agreement, a copy of which is filed herewith as Exhibit 10.1 and incorporated herein by reference.
There are no other arrangements or understandings between Mr. Furlong and any other persons pursuant to which Mr. Furlong was named President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Furlong does not have any family relationship with any of the Company’s directors or executive officers or any persons nominated or chosen by the Company to be a director or executive officer. Mr. Furlong does not have any direct or indirect interest in any transaction or proposed transaction required to be reported under Item 404(a) of Regulation S-K.
So I highlighted a few sections and dates of note. Matt did not quite make 2 full years (out of 48 months which is 4 years (edit: I am an idiot who cant do maths so I fixed thanks to comments.)) but it looks like he was close enough that the section "iii" and "iv" above still grants him his payments and shares. this also seems to be verified by the 10.1 offer letter:

Re:
Offer Letter
Dear Matt,
Congratulations! I am pleased to offer you employment with GameStop Texas, Ltd. and as the President and Chief Executive Officer GameStop Corp. (the “Company”). You will report to the Board of Directors of the Company (the “Board”). You will be subject to all policies of the Company and GameStop Texas, Ltd. in effect from time to time, including the Company’s Anti-Hedging Policy, Clawback Policy, Insider Trading Policy and Code of Ethics.
We would like you to start on a mutually agreed upon date no later than June 21, 2021. Your starting annualized base salary will be $200,000, less applicable taxes.
You will also be eligible to earn a total of $4,700,000 in sign-on bonuses. These bonuses will be paid in 24 monthly installments, as follows: In each of the first 12 months of your employment with us, you receive a sign-on bonus installment of $229,167, less applicable taxes. In each of months 13 through 24 of your employment with us, you will receive a sign-on bonus installment of $162,500, less applicable taxes. Your right to receive each installment is conditioned on your continuous employment with us through the payment date of that installment*.* Except as otherwise provided below in connection with a termination by the Company without Cause, if your employment with us ceases for any reason, no additional installments will be paid.
On the first business day of the first calendar quarter that commences after your start date, and subject to your active employment with us on that date, you will be granted a number of restricted stock units or restricted shares of the Company’s Class A common stock (“Common Stock”) determined by dividing $16,500,000 by the average closing price of Common Stock for the 30 trading days immediately preceding the grant date (the “Initial Equity Award”). The Initial Equity Award will vest as follows: 5% on the first anniversary of the grant date, 15% on the second anniversary of the grant date, and 20% on each of the dates that are 30, 36, 42 and 48 months following the grant date, subject in each case to your continuous service through the applicable vesting date. The above-described equity award will be documented in a separate award agreement; that agreement will contain additional terms and conditions (not inconsistent with this letter) and be delivered to you following the applicable grant date.
The Company’s agreement to grant equity to you and to pay you signing bonus installments does not guarantee your employment for any period or otherwise limit our ability to terminate your employment at any time, for any reason, even if your opportunity to receive or vest in such equity or receive such signing bonus installments would be forfeited as a result of such termination. We will periodically review your performance and compensation levels and may, beginning in 2022, make adjustments consistent with our executive compensation program, all as determined in the sole discretion of the Compensation Committee of our Board; provided, however, that such adjustments will not include a material adverse alteration of the above-described sign-on bonus installments or the Initial Equity Award without your consent.
You are eligible for 3 weeks of vacation per year. On the 61st day from your start date, you will be eligible to participate in the Company’s health (including dental and vision) benefits program, as well as be automatically covered in the Company’s company-paid life insurance program and, after 90 days, the long-term disability program. You will be eligible to participate in the 401(k) plan on the first day of the month following or coinciding with 60 days of service. You will be eligible for the company match commencing with the first of the month after or coinciding with your first year of service. The company match is funded on an annual frequency. Please feel free to contact our Benefits Team at (817) 722-7501 or 1-866-637-4387 with any specific benefit questions you may have.
Your position requires you to permanently relocate to Dallas/Ft Worth,TX. You are not eligible for benefits under our relocation policy. Instead, we will pay you a relocation bonus in the first pay period after your start date in the gross amount of $250,000 to assist you with your relocation costs.
Consistent with all roles in the organization, your employment will be on an at-will basis, having no specified term, and may be terminated at the will of either party on notice to the other. However, if we terminate your employment without Cause (as defined on Exhibit A***), you will receive the following severance benefits***, subject to the conditions noted below: (i) we will pay you an amount equal to six months of your base salary, (ii) if you are participating in our group health plans immediately prior to your termination, we will pay you an amount equal to the applicable premium for COBRA continuation coverage for you and your eligible dependents for six months, (iii) we will pay you any sign-on bonus installments which have not by then already been paid; and (iv) that portion of the Initial Equity Award (if any) that was otherwise scheduled to vest in the ordinary course during the six month period immediately following your termination date will become vested. To be eligible for these benefits you must (x) sign a release of claims on such form as we supply (which form will be substantially consistent with that used for other terminating senior executives) and that release must become irrevocable within 60 days after your termination date, and (y) comply with any applicable post-employment covenants under any other written agreement with us. The amounts described in clauses (i), (ii) and (iii) will be paid in a single cash lump sum (less required tax withholdings) as soon as practicable after the release becomes effective, and in no event later than 70 days after the termination date. The shares described in clause (iv) will be issued (if not already outstanding) and released from transfer restrictions as soon as practicable after the release becomes effective, and in no event later than 70 days after the termination date.
You will have rights (i) to indemnification in accordance with, and subject to the terms and conditions of, and limitations in, our Amended and Restated Certificate of Incorporation and Amended and Restated Bylaws and (ii) under any applicable directors and officers insurance under which you are covered.
Soooo... He seems to get all payments and seems to be leaving on good terms. It may be a nothing-burger, but it is certainly interesting that he left almost exactly 2 years from the start as though it was part of the plan all along.
That last part about 70 days also makes me wonder... will we see something within the next 70 days after this separation date? Will he vest and have a large buy of shares? Is there any chance that he dumps his already accumulated shares?
I just did a little digging simply because I was curious and don't have the time or the wrinkles to interpret it much more from that. Maybe someone could do the math and see how many shares he already vested (his current ownership is reported somewhere) and figure out how many more he has left to vest?
Do with this information what you will.... or won't. What do I care?

edit: fixed because I cant do maths. Thanks u/RayneAdams... DOH!

2023.06.08 01:27 PeaceSim I attended my high school’s ten-year reunion. There’s something terribly wrong with the rest of my graduating class.

There’s a saying in my hometown: “Nobody leaves Copper Hill for good.”
For years, I’d mostly managed to defy it. In the decade that followed my graduation from Copper Hill High School, I hardly set foot in its vicinity.
Instead, I absorbed myself in my studies at an out-of-state university and, eventually, my career. I spent the little free time I had with my girlfriend, who I’d met as a sophomore in a chemistry lab, and her friends. When we eventually broke up, I lost not only her, but also what little social life I had.
It was in this state of loneliness that I found a letter from my old high school in the mail. This surprised me, as I hadn’t realized that anyone there even knew my current mailing address.
I opened the envelope to find an invitation inside. Its design was fancier than I’d expected, complete with gold-colored glitter, a royal blue background, and a finely-drawn silver border. It read, in cursive letters: Cheers for 10 Years! Zachary R. ___, Please Join Us for the CHHS Class of 2013 Official Reunion. It went on to list a start time and the school’s address.
On its back, it even contained a personalized handwritten note: I know you live far away, Zach, but it would mean so much to me if you can make the trip. Paul and I will be there, and Arthur may fly in as well. I’d love to catch up! Hope to see you soon – Vince K___, Co-Chair, CHHS Reunion Planning Committee.
Vince had been one of my best friends, once. You see, Copper Hill is one of those rare small towns where you can easily graduate from high school alongside the same friends you first made in kindergarten – in my case, my buddies Arthur, Paul, and Vince.
I’d spent most of my youth with them. The four of us were in the same scout troop, played on the same sports teams, and took mostly the same classes. On weekends – and on weeknights, when we felt like sneaking out without permission – we often stayed up late together playing video games and drinking whatever cheap beer we managed to keep hidden from our parents.
We’d meant so much to each other once. So why, since graduation, had I neglected them so badly? I couldn’t even remember the last time I’d talked to any of them.
Perhaps this reunion could serve as an opportunity for me to reignite friendships I’d let fade. At a minimum, I knew that spending time – even just one evening – with my old pals would do me a lot of good, especially considering how lonely I’d been lately. Accordingly, I resolved to attend.
~
By the time I reached Copper Hill, I was an hour behind schedule due to congestion caused by an accident. As I approached town, I observed amidst the fading evening light that it appeared even quieter and more deserted than I remembered. Bars that had reliably drawn decent crowds on a Friday night ranged from boarded-up to barely occupied. Meanwhile, the few other cars on the street drove lethargically at speeds far below the limit, and I spotted no pedestrians.
In my memory, the school was only a short distance from the courthouse, city hall, and post office that formed most of ‘downtown,’ but my GPS took me down a long, unfamiliar route bordered on both sides by tall cornfields. I was about to pull over and double-check the address I’d entered when, sure enough, my headlights illuminated a sign in the school’s distinct black and red colors that stated: CHHS: Home of the Patriots.
The brick building that loomed behind it was just as I remembered, from its tall, towering middle section to the two narrower wings that stretched out to the left and right. Through the rectangular windows that lined the main building, I made out indistinct, shadowy figures milling about inside.
A banner displaying Welcome – 10 Years – CHHS Reunion stretched over the stairs that led to the main entrance. Underneath it, a familiar figure scurried towards the main entrance. “Arthur,” I said to myself with a smile.
Seeing Arthur improved my mood. He was the only other member of our class to leave town after graduation, and I suspected that he might share somewhat of an outsider status with me.
It’ll be just like old times, I reassured myself as I approached the building. Strangely, though, it still didn’t feel that way.
For one, the air had a staleness to it that was difficult to describe. It felt artificial and thin such that, as I climbed the front steps, I found myself needing to breathe in more of it than usual to avoid getting winded.
Plus, the school’s location still seemed off somehow. It didn’t make any sense – it’s not like a building this large could have been relocated. But, amidst the eerily quiet surrounding countryside, everything felt more isolated and remote than I remembered it being.
I tried to stop worrying. After all, with any luck, I’d soon be laughing and reminiscing with old friends who’d be happy to see me.
Inside, balloon garlands, multicolored streamers, triangle flags, and small banners welcoming attendees decorated the main corridor. I observed tables stocked with snacks, pamphlets, and information about fundraisers.
The only noise came from the intercom, which planned an era-appropriate Calvin Harris song. Everything necessary for a reunion was there, with only one notable exception: the people.
As I approached an unmanned table marked “Check In,” I wondered where everybody had gone. Perhaps the event had moved to a different room? I was late, after all.
As I added my signature to a sign-in sheet, my eyes scanned the list of other attendees who were marked as having already arrived. I recognized many names on it.
Like Alice, who’d shared a stand with me in orchestra. Our conductor was a hard-ass, a real disciplinarian who snapped at us constantly, and Alice was one of the many students he’d driven to tears on a semi-regular basis.
I’d had this petty fantasy of comforting her after class, and then mustering the courage to ask her out. But I never did it. It was Vince, actually, who’d ended up with her.
That had always annoyed me. I’d confided in Vince about how I felt about Alice and, soon after, the two of them were together. It felt as frustrating as it sounds. But, oh well, that’s what I get for hesitating for as long as I did.
Drifting down the hallway, my eyes caught the words “Reception” displayed over double-doors that led to the gymnasium. It made sense as the main location for the event – that’s where homecoming, prom, and plenty of major sports events were held, after all.
I could hear chatter, laughter, and the loud thump of dance music just beyond the gym doors. I approached it excitedly.
But, when I stepped inside, all the noise instantly cut out, leaving me in an eerie silence. Even more perplexingly, the room before me, like the entrance corridor, was entirely devoid of people.
A party had just been here, no doubt. I spotted a makeshift bar stocked with a standard assortment of liquor, tables holding half-finished drinks and refreshments, and an area cleared for a dance floor in the room’s center, but there were no people around. Had I missed everyone again? Where had they gone?
“Hello?” I called out, to no avail, as I drifted around the room in a state of bewilderment.
As I did so, I came across the entrance to the boy’s locker room. Just a whiff of the musty, sweaty smell emanating from it unlocked long-buried memories of the time I’d spent in there.
I remembered one occasion, in particular, where Paul had gotten pissed at me. Paul was usually a pretty low-key guy, but when he lost it, he went wild. On that particular occasion, he’d been angry with me, hadn’t he? But why?
I recalled his hot breath as he got in my face and screamed at me. When I gently nudged him away, he responded by slamming a locker door into my head.
My memories from that moment forward were hazy. There was a growing pool of blood, the pain of his fist against my cheek, and the cheering of the classmates who had encircled us. They were egging us on to continue the ‘fight,’ as if my beating could be called that.
I hadn’t thought about this event in years. How could I have forgotten something like that? My mind churned in confusion. Feeling dizzy, I took a seat on a bench that appeared to be part of a crude photobooth setup as my mind continued to replay this repressed memory.
As Paul had continued to pummel me, I’d spotted Vince among the gathered crowd. I’d begged for him to intervene. But neither he, nor our strangely absent instructor, had done anything to help me. It was only when Arthur got between us that Paul had reluctantly cooled off.
It had taken weeks for those bruises to heal. Had Paul ever been punished for it, or even apologized? Surely he must have. We’d remained friends, after all.
A strange pressure around my shoulder and a sudden bright light jolted me back to the present. The flash on the camera facing the bench I was sitting on had…gone off, somehow, even with nobody around to operate it. How was that possible? Maybe it was automated to go off every so often?
It didn’t make sense, just like so much else that was happening. Where was everybody, and whose voices had I been hearing? I’d seen people from the road, and I’d even watched Arthur come inside, but, as far as I could tell, the event was deserted.
I texted Arthur asking if he’d found anyone. For all I knew, he could have changed his number in the many years that had gone by since I’d last used it, but I figured it was worth a shot. To my relief, he responded right away.
Hey man, long time no see! Paul just called me. He says everyone’s up on the third floor, in Mr. Minelli’s old room. I’m on my way there now. Meet you there soon.
I couldn’t fathom why the entire event would relocate from the area clearly designated for it to the third floor. There wasn’t much up there, after all, aside from classrooms and a few administrative officers.
Nonetheless, I resolved to head up there. Arthur was there, after all, and hopefully the rest of my friends would be as well.
Navigating off my memory of the building’s layout, I hopped up a small set of steps that connected the gym to the second floor. From there, it would just be a short walk past a few classrooms before I’d arrive at the central staircase, which would take me to my destination.
I’d never seen the school quite this gloomy before. Each footstep echoed through the halls. The classrooms were weirdly empty, too, bereft of any decorations or other signs of use.
I recognized one as my calculus classroom. I remembered how, after class had ended one day, I’d come across a group of students congregating in the hallway.
Mary, Michelle, and Abby, like so many of my classmates, had grown up with me, and I’d always gotten along with them. But that day, they were harassing a shy girl – Morgan, I think. Calling her all sorts of names – ‘slut,’ ‘whore,’ ‘bitch’. She was trying to get away from them, but they wouldn’t let her leave. Their taunting of her became a regular thing, and it often left Morgan in tears.
What ever happened to Morgan? Like most of my friends, I’d known her since I was a little kid. She was quiet, but she was perfectly nice.
Then, one day, gossip about her started to spread. The type of nasty, embellished rumors that often make their way through high schools, full of sexist undertones and double standards. Her former friends shunned her, and she’d been subjected to taunting and ridicule as she walked to class and sat alone at lunch. And, one day, she was just…gone. I’d always assumed that her family had moved away, but was that true?
Growing up, Mary, Michelle, and Abby had always been sweet girls. I’d never seen them treat another person the way they’d treated Morgan. But Copper Hill High School had a way of bringing out the worst in people. There was just something about this building, this place, that ate away at their – at our – souls.
Had I bullied Morgan, too? Maybe not, but, once her mistreatment started, it’s not like I’d made an effort to be kind to her, or ever invited her to sit with me and my friends in the cafeteria. I could have done more.
I reached the central staircase. With each step that I took up towards the third floor, a feeling of dread ran through me. I’d seen something terrible happen up here, hadn’t I?
It was Paul and Vince. Arthur had done something to offend them. It could have been the rumors spreading about his reasons for never having a girlfriend, his diminutive size, or the way he’d reacted when Paul had beaten me half to death.
Whatever the reason, Paul and Vince – without my knowledge – had decided to subject Arthur to a cruel prank. After school one day, they’d lured Arthur up to the third floor, where they’d taken hold of him and tried to wedge him into his own locker.
Now, there’s a reason this sort of thing occurs primarily on 90s sitcoms: most people simply can’t fit inside of a locker. Arthur, as short and skinny as he was, turned out to be no exception, but this only made things worse for him.
As Arthur later related to me, Paul and Vince laughed rowdily as they slammed him repeatedly into the metal frame. By the time they finally relented, Arthur had bruises all over his body.
There were other horrible acts, too. Other victims, other beatings. It dawned on me that this place had been an absolute hellhole. It’s no wonder I – and Arthur, too – had gotten as far away from it as we could at the first opportunity.
The peculiar thing was that, in the years that had passed, I’d somehow forgotten all of this until just now. Instead, my recollections of high school were all happy, all positive. Had false memories of camaraderie and friendship drawn Arthur back as well?
Finally, I reached the third level. The overhead fluorescent light fixtures flickered sporadically, revealing, in brief spurts, dilapidated lockers, litter, and layers of dust and dirt that coated the floor.
I approached Mr. Minelli’s classroom. Through the shaded hallway window, I could discern the outlines of roughly a dozen figures inside. I heard a voice, too. It was muffled and indistinct, but I could tell that the speaker was giving some kind of speech. She stopped, and a loud round of applause followed.
I reached for the door handle, unsure of what to expect. Hopefully, it would just be the people I’d driven four hours to see. But, after the events thus far, I half-expected the room to be empty. If so, I was jumping ship and going home.
To my surprise, just before I made contact with it, the door slowly opened on its own. The brightly-lit room before me was filled not with people, at least in the general understanding of the word. Rather, the still, bony forms before me resembled the kind of props a biology teacher might use to teach human anatomy.
The skeletons that stood silently throughout the room – that stood posed with drinks, that sat at desks, and that had assembled around a speaker - had to be props, right? Even though Mr. Minelli was a history teacher?
My mind searched desperately for some kind of explanation. This had to be an elaborate prank, right? Had Vince and Paul lured me, and maybe Arthur, too, out here just to freak us the fuck out? I wouldn’t put it past them – it’s precisely the kind of thing they’d do, even if the whole set-up, complete with an array of prop skeletons, was a bit extreme.
But, then, who was making all the noises I’d been hearing? Was that part of the prank, too?
Fuck it, I thought. If this was a big gag at my expense, then I’d just have to deal with the embarrassment later. I was getting out of there.
Zach,” called a strained voice in the hallway.
“If this a joke, then it’s not-”
The voice interrupted me. “Zach, help me, please!” It was Arthur’s voice, and it was coming from the hallway nearby.
He sounded like he was in serious trouble, so I hurried after him. Eventually, I found myself in a corner of the hallway – one where, if I remembered correctly, he and I used to have lockers. But, once again, I found myself alone.
I yelled out his name several times: “Arthur! Arthur!” It was no use. I appeared to be at a dead end.
That’s when the locker next to me shook. I jumped back, surprised.
It was shut, but not locked. I gripped the handle and pulled it open.
Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw inside: it was Arthur’s torso. The rest of his body was gone, and something was dragging what was left of him further away, further back into a dark abyss where the wall should have been.
Blood gurgled out of his mouth as he gasped my name one last time. He reached out a blood-covered hand. Hoping to somehow pull him out, I tried to take it, only for whatever unseen force had taken hold of him to pull him away, leaving behind a wide hole in the back of the locker. More blood gushed through it, leaking onto the hallway floor.
So glad you could make it,” said a monotone voice behind me. I whirled around to see two fleshy arms emerge from another locker across from me. The skinless figure left wet, red stains on the white surface as she got to her feet and stepped towards me. “Don’t you recognize your old crush? Surely ten years haven’t been that rough on me.”
“A-alice?” I stuttered, stepping backwards.
Lockers all around me started opening, each accompanied by a new pair of bloody, seemingly boneless arms of figures that slowly crawled outwards.
My survival instincts kicked in. I sprinted away, my legs frantically carrying me towards the main staircase. All around me, figures emerged, reaching out to me as I passed by. Through an open door, I noticed that another classroom was filled with skeletons, just as Mr. Minelli’s had been.
When I reached the main staircase, it was guarded by a tall, fleshy figure. “Don’t you want to be with us?” it asked in a familiar, deep voice that I knew to be Paul’s. “We can be complete. A full class. All of us, together again. Like old times.”
He lurched for me. Just barely, I managed to dodge him, but I lost balance in the process. Before I knew it, I was tumbling down the stairs. Pain shot through me as I collided with step after step.
Finally, I landed on a level surface. Dizzily, I climbed to my feet and did my best to ignore the soreness that spread throughout my body.
A quick glance upwards confirmed that the bloody figures – the ones that somehow resembled my old classmates – were, indeed, heading towards me.
Meanwhile, the temperature inside was rising noticeably, and the walls around me were steadily changing in color from a dull gray to a deep red.
As I scrambled down the rest of the stairs and across the main corridor on the first floor, an intense tremor ran through the building, sending me sprawling to the ground. Despite a sharp pain that spread through my ankle, I hobbled as quickly as I could to the exit.
I didn’t look back as I made my way across the parking lot to my car. I started the ignition, backed out, and headed towards the long road I’d used to get there.
In my rearview mirror, I chanced a glance back at the school. It was shaking violently, like it was being struck by an earthquake.
My car lurched in different directions as the ground underneath me also started to rumble. In an effort to avoid my car being sent off the road and into the neighboring fields, I frantically steered it to the center, between the lanes heading into and out of town.
When I looked back again, the school was, somehow, even closer to me than it had been before. How was that possible? Was it following me?
I floored the accelerator. Row after row of cornfield flew by me as I drove at the fastest speed of my life.
~
I was on the edge of town, close to the nearest interstate ramp, when local police pulled me over.
As the officer approached me, I stared into the rear view mirror. At the first glimpse of whatever it was that had chased after me, I’d hit the road again, law enforcement be damned. In truth, I hadn’t seen my pursuer since I’d exited the cornfield a few minutes ago, but I hardly felt safe.
“Clocked you going nearly a hundred, son,” said the officer.
I stayed silent. My baffled self was unsure of how to best handle the situation.
The officer gave me a quizzical look as he examined my ID and registration. “You’re Don and Fran’s son, aren’t you? The one who left town?”
I nodded.
“Why’d you come back?”
“There was, uh, a ten-year reunion. For my graduating class.”
He shook his head. “I doubt that.” He looked down, then at my perplexed face. “Where, exactly, was this ‘reunion’?”
“At the school,” I said. I struggled to understand his reaction. What about my story didn’t make sense? And, regardless, was I about to be booked for driving fifty miles over the speed limit? Is that something they throw you in jail for?
“Wait here,” barked the officer. He went to his car where he proceeded to have a long conversation over his radio. After a few minutes, he returned to me. “Get out of here, son. Leave, and don’t come back. Don’t do something like this again. You hear me?”
“Yeah, yeah, that’s fine,” I said, astonished.
“Then scram,” he ordered.
I obliged and began the long journey home.
~ I had no idea what to make of what occurred. I can hardly find anything at all online about Copper Hill High, or any of my classmates who went there, and I’m not exactly eager to reach out to any of them.
I can’t make much sense of what happened, but I am sure of one thing: that I barely made it out of that situation, and that I shouldn’t press my luck much further.
My ankle needs some more time to heal. Once it does, I’m going to try joining a social club and making new friends. After what happened to me in Copper Hill, I decided that the past is not a place where I need to dwell any longer.
Two weeks have passed since the reunion. Today, an envelope with no return address arrived with my mail. It contained a single photograph on glossy paper with a short note written underneath.
The photo featured me on the bench in the photo booth. Sitting to my side, with his arm over my shoulders, was Vince. He wore a blue collared shirt and looked…normal. No missing skin, no bloody imprints on the surface around him.
Paul crouched behind us, a dopey grin on his face. He, too, looked just as I’d imagined he would in his late twenties. To Paul’s right, Abby, Morgan, and Michelle posed together with their arms around each other.
It was…a perfectly ordinary image - the exact kind of photo you’d expect to be taken at an event like that.
The handwritten caption underneath read, “Although your visit was briefer than we preferred, we all had a splendid time catching up with you, Zach! Please feel free to come by anytime! Nobody truly leaves Copper Hill, after all. – Vince K___, Co-Chair, CHHS Reunion Planning Committee.
P.S., the note continued, We are delighted that Arthur has finally joined us. Maybe you will, too, at our 20th.
The writing up to this point was cursive font in traditional black ink. The last few words, however, were larger in size, messily scrawled, and colored a deep shade of red: See you then, buddy, if not sooner.

2023.06.07 21:19 DegenerateStoner710 38 [M4F] #NewJersey Looking for a longterm partner, so over apps and fake accounts

\*\*\*Hello,As so many on here demand, when sending your FIRST D..M please include your Name, Location, Age and a photo. Please do not just say hi.\*\*\* 99% of you explicitly ignore this I am only interested in something longterm with the right person. I am in no way shape or form looking for, flings, one night stands, to be 1 of 12 in your rotation etc. Please no games or drama, that stuff was ok 20 years ago lol. I honestly am leaning towards NO children as I find it near impossible to find someone to take out for coffee, let alone have a child with. 2023.06.07 21:10 Olivethecrocodile Snackspionage! Follow the story of Ava, Errol, and Vincent in this adventure as they bend fate to prevent corporate espionage at the Banilla food Konventions center. Snackspionage! uses the Foretold RPG system.

Plot summary:
Errol, Vincent, and Avarice H are in the Firebreathing Kittens guild hall when Errol receives a package with a letter addressed to him. Vincent is stacking cards that attracts penny who manages to knock the castle of cards down. Errol alerts the other guild members to the package and letter. He opens the letter and reads it, it is a letter informing him that consent creameries is using spies to steal information and sabotage the Hestias Bestias brand potato chips and Moondollar companies at the Food and Beverage Konvention being held in Ježek. Errol then unwraps a wooden box containing three bright blue potions along with three convention passes and three train tickets. The group agrees to take the train to Jezek and when they arrive in front of the convention center Vincent downs one of the potions they were given. Errol and Ava cheers one another and follow suit. They make their way into the convention center and stop at the information desk where they discover a few locations of interest. The exhibition hall where there are booths for the companies, the garden where Consent Creameries is hosting a dog therapy session, and an employees only area. Being very sneaky individuals they decide to try and infiltrate the employees only area. Vincent disguises himself as security personnel and makes his badge green. Errol decides to attempt to distract the lone security guard watching the door. Errol strikes up a conversation with the young security guard named Doc and manages to charm him discussing the intricacies as working in security. Vincent manages to slip through making it seem like he left something inside. Meanwhile Ava sends Penny to sneakily hitch a ride on Vincent. Vincent looks around inside and fails to find security badges however he finds a small steelborn who is searching the lockers looking for something who stops what he's doing to eye Vincent warily. Vincent leaves thinking he has found nothing of interest but Penny stays to keep an eye on the steelborn.
Ava and Errol leave Vincent thinking he might be a minute to check out the dog therapy in the garden nearby. Once again Errol attempts to talk to someone trying to get information about consent creameries but something about him just makes the whole scene go haywire. Ava however, manages to get a small bit of information from the lawyer with whom Errol had been speaking. Vincent finally shows up hoping to get to pet some dogs, and a woman asks him to tell Ava to leave as she feels she is making the dogs go crazy. Vincent asks Ava to leave which she does and Errol follows after. As they are about to return Penny alerts Ava that the steelborn found the documents in the locker and Penny attempted to take them from him but the steelborn knocked her down and left quickly. Vincent has a flash of brilliance and realizes he can use the powers of the potion to go back to before the steelborn took the documents and take them from him. He does this but it only happens as a memory and the documents appear in his hand. He realizes he berated the individual and stressed him out to the point that he shut down. This makes Vincent feel very ill about his actions. Errol tries to console him by mentioning that by doing so he managed to prevent Penny being hurt. Avarice is impressed by Vincent's brutish behavior.
The party inspects the paperwork they found and learn that it is blueprints for a machine built by Tipsy and Tapsy Kegtinker, and there is a crumpled piece of paper saying to bring the documents to Dr. Ravenwood. Ava uses her powers to affect the past to learn the name of the lawyer with the kind dog who turns out to be Ramses Joyner. They decide to go give the paperwork back to Tipsy and Tapsy but quickly learn that they need tickets to enter the event. Errol uses his powers to influence Doc into giving him some tickets. His attempt succeeds but Doc asks him to find Jimmy Flowers the security guard who entered the Employees only area and accosted the steelborn, which was actually done by Vincent in disguise. Errol once again splits the party and lets Ava and Vincent visit Tipsy and Tapsy in the exhibition hall, while he looks for Jimmy Flowers. Vincent and Ava witness the coffee barista machine built by Tipsy and Tapsy almost malfunction, however, Ava uses her powers to influence the situation and Tipsy and Tapsy manage to fix the machine and give out samples of their coffee beverage. Ava spies a green dragonkin in the crowd looking flustered and she sends Mallum to pin him to his chair. Ava and Vincent use their powers together to solidly apprehend the individual and Ava threatens his soul in order to get information. He only knows that he, Valoom Kimbo, and a steelborn named Humboldt were supposed to be sabotaging the machine and stealing the plans respectively. Then Vincent gives the plans back to Tipsy and Tapsy in the form of Jimmy Flowers and tells them he stopped the steelborn from running off with the plans, they thank him heartily.
After this Errol finds Jimmy Flowers but as he arrives Doc has rounded up security and they have tackled Jimmy. Errol congratulates Doc and tells him that there is some foul plotting afoot and that perhaps he should question everyone involved before being too hard on Jimmy, and mentions that there are some people walking around impersonating others. The group reconvenes and decide to check the Hestias Bestias booth to make sure nothing sinister has happened there. They arrive and speak to Kin Korbin who tell them that Krista Bestia is away from the booth to speak to a Dr. Ravenwood, and that Dr. Ravenwood is a halfling who is fond of candy like licorice. The group plots to try and expose Dr. Ravenwood but decide they should at least go make sure that Krista Bestia is not in any danger. When they arrive they see Krista Bestia and Dr. Ravenwood speaking animatedly. Ava does not like Dr. Ravenwood and due to the circumstances feels that she deserves to be punished and uses her powers to cause the conversation to go sour. Krista Bestia walks off flustered and Errol approaches Dr. Ravenwood and offers her some licorice, she says it is very good and he tells her it was his mothers favorite. He then says I believe I am your son, my name is Errol Corvidbough. He then pulls out a sketched portrait of him as a toddler and his two parents and hands it to her. She is very surprised and tells him she is so sorry she had to leave, at this point Errol begins to confront her about the attempt to spy and sabotage other companies and she begins to look frightened and retreat. Errol attempts to make a Decklaration and change things so no one but him and his mother know about her wrong doing so he might let her escape unpunished to prevent her from being put in jail. Ava uses her powers to attempt to alter this by making it so his mother was never involved in the crimes from the start. The magic works and his mothers involvement in the plot is somehow nullified. Ava tells Errol that she owes him and she will figure out how at another time. Before they leave Ava tracks down her mentor Professor Edemir and she uses Penny to telepathically inform him of all of the terrible things Consent Creameries have been doing, her actions in putting their plot to an end impress him. Avarice then speaks to Errol and suggests that Errol repay her for her help by helping lead strangers who get lost in her home out from time to time. Errol nervously shakes her hand and agrees to the terms.

2023.06.07 18:31 Glum_Feature_2718 I need advice on parenting.

My DMs are open if you have something you absolutely want me to read, or if you’d like to be kind of like a mentor to me, I’d appreciate it.
Please read the whole thing before commenting so you get all the details. I will answer questions too in the comments.
Hello. I will not share my first name on a public post, but you can call me Ernest. I am 14 years old, and I live in Kentucky. I just “graduated” from 8th grade. Based on my first post, people find it difficult to believe that this is really my age, due to my grammar. Really I’m just intelligent. (ironic considering my life choices) I’m on the Honor Roll and I’m in GaT. I am in the Traditional Program and will be applying for MENSA when I can. This doesn’t really prove my age at all, I know, but I’ll include it anyway. You may judge me, but if you’re not going to be kind about it, please don’t comment.
Due to my own stupidity, I am going to be a father. Baby should be due around February. My girlfriend, who is also 14, and I have both been heavily discussing it. Abortion is illegal where we live, and even if it wasn’t, I’d rather not abort it due to moral reasons (If it is the best/only option I would be fine with it). She agrees. Actions have consequences, and I think I need to learn that. So we’ve decided to keep the baby and raise it together.
I am getting a job as soon as possible. I have a whole career and education plan already. I am willing to adjust it for the baby and her if I need to, but I probably don’t have to. If I stick to it, I will follow my dream and make lots of money. I plan to go down an Army career path. JROTC, ROTC, and working to get my Eagle Scout badge so I am qualified to be a commissioned officer right off the bat.
I have voiced my worries about becoming a father to her, and she’s reassured me it will all be okay even if it’s hard. I love her so much, we’ve been dating for 9 months, which for a middle school relationship, is crazy. We’ve been through so much together, and she’s never left my side.
I know I am unprepared. At this age I could never be fully prepared. But I want to be as prepared as I can.
I need advice. How do I help my girlfriend while she is pregnant? And more importantly, how do I be a good father?
Thank you. I apologise for any grammatical errors, my phone is glitching.
EDIT: Realized that this post is mainly about myself and not my girlfriend and I.
Well, we’ve been dating for 9 months. It’s a really stable relationship. We argue sometimes but we never argue about the same thing twice, because the issue is always resolved.
The raw sex was in the moment. I had a condom on, but she told me to fuck her raw halfway, so I did, without giving it a second thought. It was only later in the day when we were discussing it, we knew that we fucked up bad.
She seemed very nonchalant about it, I was instantly panicking though. Asking her questions, like “When was your last period?” “How long does it last?” and opening various ovulation predictors trying to calculate when she would have ovulated.
I’ve been checking in on her every day since. It used to be we’d see each other every day at school, but now that it’s summer, we are unable to do so. We still talk all the time of course. I try to ask her how she’s feeling, if there’s anything I can do, at least 3 times a day.
Now that we know she’s pregnant, I’ve been voicing my concerns to her more. I know that the way I typed most of this, I sound very selfish, but really this is just a small amount of my concerns, in addition to my plan for the future AS OF NOW.
I have no idea how she is so calm about this when I’m absolutely freaking out about everything. About the risks of pregnancy and birth on her, about the possibility of the baby inheriting my disabilities, and so on. She has continuously reassured me that we’ll handle it together and it will be alright.
We decided that if we break up in the future, we will still live together to raise the child. This may change depending on the circumstances, but if it’s not a bad breakup that is our plan.
Trust me, I’m not horribly unprepared. This probably doesn’t seem like much, that’s cause it’s not. It is not everything I have told my girlfriend, just a portion of what I wanted to share on the internet.
I definitely don’t have it handled yet but I have been putting lots of thought into it.
Thank you.

2023.06.07 18:25 giu9514 Birthday Sale 2023/ Lost and Found- Opinionated Prediction/Mega Thread

As confirmed yesterday in this stream, Blitz Birthday activities are starting soon. On June 8th the birthday event “Lost and Found” event should start according to the above mentioned stream , so this means that probably there will be a tank sale like it happened last year. This post, like the one I did for Black Friday, aims to predict tanks that might be sold in this event on the basis of recent offers in shop and past year activities. If you want to simply read my predictions, jump to the Sample Line-Up section

What is Lost and Found and birthday sale all about?

This point is dedicated strictly for newer players, but it can also serve as a refresher for those, who forgot what the Birthday sale Event is all about.
Last year's bonus level event included collector tanks, a background picture, a crate with a guaranteed tank and other small rewards. These goods were purchasable with in-event coins that were included in tanks sales, as well as in gold purchases. You can find here more details.
This year “Lost and Found” seems to include basically the same rewards, in addition they have the same price as last year. This means that the crate with a guarantee should cost more than 100€/$, so it's not worth it to get it.

Bonus Level 2022 and Black Friday 2022

Let's recall what took place during previous events…
The Bonus Level Event 2022 took place last June during the celebrations of WoT Blitz Birthday and following Premium Tanks were sold for gold at discounted price:
Tier Tank Price Coins Sold In BF 2021?
10 Object 260 15.000 130 no
9 Kpz 70 9.000 85 yes
8 Progetto 46 7.500 70 no
8 Skoda T27 7.500 70 no
8 Kanonenjdpz. 105 6.500 70 no
8 T-2020 5.500 65 yes
8 T-54 first prototype 4.500 55 no
8 Fcm 50t 4.000 55 no
8 Chieftain T/95 4.000 55 no
7 FV201 (A45) 2.500 40 no
7 AT 15 A 2.000 30 no
6 Churchill Mk. VI 1.500 20 no
6 Ac IV Sentinel 1.000 20 no

During Black Friday 2022 following Premium Tanks were sold for gold at discounted price:
Tier Tank Price
10 Object 907 15.000
10 Amx 30B 12.500
9 K-91 9.000
9 T-55a 8.000
8 Skoda T 56 8.500
8 Object 274a 8.500
8 Lansen C 8.000
8 T54E2 7.500
8 Keiler 6.500
8 Kanonenjdpz. 105 6.000
8 TS-5 5.000
8 59-Patton 4.500
7 M41D 3.000
7 AMX 13 57 2.500
6 Type 64 2.000
6 Pudel 1.500
In addition we can divide Tier VIII into two subcategories: High-end with a price of 5.5k gold or higher and Low-end with price tag below 5.5k gold respectively

Birthday Sale 2023 Structure:

After analysing data from last year events, following tanks are most likely to appear in the Birthday sale:
1 Tier X Premium Tank
1 Tier IX Premium Tank
~8 Tier VIII Premium Tanks: ~3 High-end and ~5 Low-end, one more Low-end than last year
~3 Tier VII Premium Tanks, one more than last year
2 Tier VI Premium Tanks
Alongside discounted tanks listed above, other collector tanks are expected to be offered in the “Lost and Found” side event, available for purchase through in-event currency. Thanks to WG we can already tell what those tanks are:
Sold for First time in the event is the Churchill VIII, a tier 6 premium tank that features an 84mm derp gun. Seems something different from current premiums. Do not worry if you can’t grab it this time, it’s gonna be in store in a few months.
Kunze Panzer is a german tier 7 light tank. Featured in a marathon during Birthday celebrations in 2021, it’s a nice light tank, with great alpha but low shell velocity., It was sold in shop before, and even in auctions last year
P 43/’06 Anniversario is a tier 6 european medium tank. Featured for the first time in the 6th Blitz birthday as a free reward, it’s almost a copy of the tech tree p43 bis, but better. Never sold in shop nor in auction, so this is your only chance to get it this year.
Lastly Y5 tanks feature three tanks across tiers VII-V, that are almost carbon copies of respectively Comet, Cromwell and T-34. However, apart from tier 5, they are nothing amazing and inferior to their tech tree counterparts. Never sold in shop nor in auction, so this is your only chance to get it this year.
The “Lost and Found” is confirmed to take place from 8th June till 18th June, before the main progression event starting on 16th June

Birthday Sale 2023 Predictions:

This section in contrast to previous ones is far more speculative, since there's simply no way to accurately tell which tanks exactly will show up on the Birthday Sale…
There are tanks that are almost impossible to show up on Birthday Sale sale, such as:
  1. Newly released Premium Tanks or such that have been sold only once outside or in crates
  2. Premium Tanks that appeared in the Bonus Level 2022 and Black Friday 2022 are less likely to appear, but they are not totally excluded. Two tanks featured in Bonus level 2022 were sold the prior Black Friday.
  3. Premium Tanks that have recently been in the shop. This means Tier X that were sold this year, and Tier IX and below tanks sold within last 4 months
  4. Halloween Tanks: the Annihilator hopefully will never come back to the shop. Smasher technically is not a Halloween Tank, but It most likely will be sold in a draw as rumoured here Premium Tanks that were released throughout 2023 in F2P events: Object 244, Super Hellcat, T23E6 Eagle 7, CS-52 LIS
Now let's move to the interesting part, which is predicting which tanks may appear during the Birthday sale…
Tier X:
Some Tier X were sold in Personal offers this year only for players that have spent a decent amount of cash in the game. Nevertheless, most tier X collectors were sold in shops in dedicated offers so far this year, apart for the following tanks:
121B
Object 260
M 60
VK 90.01 P
AMX M4 54
The most sought-after tanks in this last, the AMX M4 54 and VK 90.01 P were sold during last auction so I think they are unlikely to show up soon. Object 260 was sold last year, so I think it won’t be part of the Birthday event. This leaves two medium tanks as possible deals:
M60
121B
Tier IX:
Tier IX has very few Premium/Collector Tanks, so there's no need to get in greater detail here:
Only one Tier 9 satisfies the conditions I have listed above, the Object 752. However, I think T-55a could be considered also as an option, as it was sold for cash only in late March, and was part of the Black Friday last year.
Thus, there are two Tier 9 Collectors/ premium tanks as possible deals:
Object 752
T-55a
Tier VIII:
As mentioned above, it's possible to distinguish between high-end and low-end Premium Tanks in Tier VIII on the basis of their Price and in some cases Release Date
Tier VIII - High-Ends:
Titan 54D
WZ 112-2
E 75 TS
Chrysler K
SU 130PM
AMX CDA 105
These tanks were not sold in the shops in the last 4 months, nor were featured in events.
Titan 54D, AMX CDA 105 and SU 130Pm were last sold in auctions, and apart from the french tank destroyer were sold at higher price than other tanks then.
Chrysler K ,E-75 TS and WZ 122-2 were sold repeatedly the last two years as part of bundles, respectively with IS-2Sh, Le Kpfz 41 90mm and T-34-3. However these bundles have been absent from stores for the last 4 months.
Tier VIII - Low-Ends:
Kv-5
Vk 168 01.P
IS-2Sh
Turtle Mk1
ISU 130
Type 59
Super Pershing
Amx CDC
Panther 8.8
O-47
KV-5 and ISU-130 were sold in cheap bundles last year like the Le Kpfz 41 90mm did recently, although not this year IS-2Sh was sold alongside Chrysler K last year as I said above, so it makes it a candidate for the birthday sale.
Vk 168 01.P, Type 59, Super Pershing are old premium tanks that were sold originally at least 5 years ago. They are powercreep on most stats, so that it makes them cheap.
Panther 8.8, AMX CDC, O-47, and Turtle Mk.1 are newer premiums, but they do not perform greatly or they don’t offer compelling experience above other premiums. The German, French and blitz nation mediums are mediocre single shot mediums in a tier where Chimeras and Bourrasques can outperform them in battle. Turtle Mk1 was first released as a poorly balanced tank destroyer that was slightly improved in January 2022. Nevertheless, this assault Td is outperformed by the cheaper Jagdtiger 8.8.
Tier VII.
Tier VII is slightly less popular and it offers less options to choose from:
IS-2 (1945)
Vk 45.03
T-34-85 Rudy
Panther M/10
AMX 13 57
SU-122-44
Most of these tanks were not sold this year, thus making them more likely to appear in store during the sale event.
Tier VI.
Su 100Y
Bretagne Panther
Churchill Mk VIl
Loza’s Sherman
Premium/Collector Tanks from Battle Pass are not likely to appear in the Black Friday 2022 event because of the their nature, in addition one of them are offered every month after purchasing the Battle Pass
Again, these tanks have not been sold yet in store this year.
At the very end please keep in mind that those are just predictions, so don't take them for absolutely granted.

Birthday Sale 2023 Sample Line-ups:

Now let's quickly summarise the predictions I made above into two line-ups, including also a selling price:
Line-up .1:
1 Tier X Premium Tank: 121B - 12.5k gold
1 Tier IX Premium Tank: Obj. 752 - 10k gold
8 Tier VIII Premium Tanks: WZ 112-2 - 7k gold, Chrysler K - 6.5k gold, Amx CDA 105 - 6k gold, KV 5 - 5.5k gold, Super Pershing - 5k gold, Panther 8.8 - 4.5k gold, ISU 130 - 4K gold, AMX CDC - 4K gold,
3 Tier VII Premium Tanks: AMX 13 57 - 3.k gold, Vk 45 03 - 3.k gold, T 34-85 Rudy - 2.5k gold
2 Tier VI Premium Tanks: Bretagne Panther - 2.5.k gold, Su 100Y - 1.5k gold
Line-up .2:
1 Tier X Premium Tank: M60 - 15k gold
1 Tier IX Premium Tank: T-55a - 8.5k gold
8 Tier VIII Premium Tanks: TItan 54D - 7.5k gold, E-75 TS - 5.5k gold, SU 130PM - 7k gold, Turtle Mk 1 - 5.5k gold, VK 168 01.P - 5k gold, Type 59 - 4.5k gold, IS-2Sh - 4.5k gold, O-47 - 4k gold
3 Tier VII Premium Tanks: SU 122-44 - 3k gold, IS-2 (1945) - 2.5k gold, Panther M/10 - 2k gold
2 Tier VI Premium Tanks: Churchill Mk VI - 2k gold, Loza Sherman - 1,5k gold
The prices to buy each line-up amount to 78k gold , this is similar to the Bonus Level event last year.

Summary:

Congratulations!
If You have read anything above, Thank You!
Keep in mind this post was done in a few days, so unlike previous predictions it might feel less polished. I thought the Birthday Sale was scheduled around June 20th, unlike what Alexandra confirmed on stream June 5th.
I hope you found this post interesting enough to read it fully or at least you found my predictions accurate. If not, leave a comment explaining why.

2023.06.07 17:56 uggsandstarbux Defending the Draft 2023: Minnesota Vikings

Link to Hub

Recapping 2022

2022 was a dangerous year to be a Vikings fan, especially if you have a pre-existing heart condition. While a season of 13 wins -- tied for the most since 1998 -- may seem like the team is in a position to make a Superbowl push, the actual quality of the team is a lot more... well, mediocre.
The 2022 Vikings ranked 19th in offensive EPA per play, 25th in defensive EPA per play, 27th in Overall DVOA, and 15th in Pythagorean Wins (with 8.4 expected wins). Kevin O'Connell always preached the performance of the team in priority situations. The team finished 12th in 3rd down conversion rate and 8th in red zone conversion rate. And the team led the league -- by far -- in the number of 4th quarter comebacks and game winning drives. When it was time to put up or shut up, the team put up hard. Except for in the playoffs.

2023 Offseason

All of that made the future of the Vikings tough to read. But Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and the rest of the front office told us what they thought of the team with their free agency moves. In a league where teams are trading the farm for Hall of Fame QBs and giving $20M/Year deals to nose tackles and guards, the Vikings' big free agent splash were a one year deal on an injury-prone DE and a good-not-great corner that doesn't even crack the top 20 highest AAVs at the position. Concurrently, the team parted ways with half of the team's 2022 captains to try to get under the cap. All of this while the team is not done with transactions -- Dalvin Cook still presents as a cut candidate due to his age and contract structure.
Notable Departures:
Notable Arrivals:
Other Notable Transactions:
The other major change that influenced how the team addresses the draft was the shift from Ed Donatell's Cover 2 shell defense to Brian Flores's aggressive man defense. Compared to the 2022 Vikings, Flores's 2021 Dolphins blitzed over twice as often and played with light boxes at roughly half the rate. On top of the front seven, one of the biggest changes in scheme is the Cover 2 alignment, which Donatell employed on nearly half of all defensive snaps compared to just 12% for Flores's 2021 Miami team. With one crop of rookies and free agents brought in to play in a Fangio style scheme, the defense would have to undergo a massive shift to succeed in a scheme that can only be described as the complete opposite of what was run in 2022.

Draft Needs

Cornerback - Arguably the Vikings' biggest need, the team was without a true CB1. Byron Murphy comes aboard as the most experienced player. Pegged a slot-only player through his first three years, Murphy spent most of his time in 2022 outside and had a career year. After that, the team looked to rely on improvements from their 2022 draft class with Andrew Booth and Akayleb Evans, two players that combined for fewer than 300 defensive snaps last season primarily due to injury. You can see how KAM and crew, confident in their scouting ability, are betting on health to affect the secondary for the better. But taking another bet on a young player is a smart move at a position where depth is always a good thing.
Interior Defensive Line - The loss of Dalvin Tomlinson -- who played 551 snaps last year and compiled 14 pressures -- leaves issues next to Harrison Phillips. Jonathan Bullard was third on the IDL with 319 snaps last season and returns on a one year deal. Tonga and Lynch had some flashes, and the team brought in Lowry. The rotation (optimistically) can get to competent. But finding a true winner on the inside of the line was viewed by many as a priority.
Wide Receiver - The Vikings starting personnel at WR heading in to the draft was Justin Jefferson (stud), KJ Osborn (decent), and... Jalen Nailor? Brandon Powell? Oh dear Lord don't tell me it's Jalen Reagor. The loss of Adam Thielen was expected, but nevertheless leaves a gaping hole next to JJ and KJ in the lineup. Keenan McCardell is arguably the best WR coach in the league, and playing with Jefferson would give one-on-one opportunities for any receiver. But having somebody that can actually win those one-on-ones remains a question.
Inside Linebacker - Eric Kendricks's jersey change marks the true end of an era at LB. Kendricks struggled in Donatell's scheme last season, as did most players. But he was a longtime leader on the defense and a valued community member. Jordan Hicks, Brian Asamoah, and Troy Reeder sit atop the depth chart. Hicks can be solid and Asamoah had flashes, but counting on this group as every down players is a risk to say the least.
Offensive Guard - Ed Ingram was one of the worst starting guards in the league last season. But he's a rookie. Maybe he gets better in year 2. Maybe he stays terrible. Even if you're optimistic there, Ezra Cleveland is entering a contract year at left guard. Adding interior offensive line depth is always smart.
Quarterback - This offseason, reports surfaced that the team and QB Kirk Cousins could not finalize a contract extension. That means for the first time in his Vikings tenure, Cousins is entering a contract year. Cousins has been an above average QB during his time in Minnesota. Last year saw him finish 4th in yards, but he was painfully mediocre at efficiency stats like TD percent (17th), ANY/A (18th), and ADOT (20th). Entering his age-35 season, it would be wise to look for a successor even if the team plans on retaining Cousins past 2023.

The Draft

1.23 WR Jordan Addison, USC

Steve Smith Sr: "Addison has one of the highest ceilings among WRs in this draft due to his blend of route running chops and his all around athleticism. He is a three level route runner: intermediate, deep, and short... The way he can get in and out of his breaks is so natural. He uses leverage. And he manipulates the DB consistently"
Addison -- a Biletnikoff Award winner during his Pitt days -- is one of the highest floor players in the class. He is a route running technician with proven dominance playing inside and outside. He had more than 3 yards per route run in two different offenses. He understands how to marry his athleticism and quickness with the breaks in his routes. He finds the DB's blind spot and forces them to lose. Addison is a bit on the small side, but not abnormally so given this draft class. He does have some concerns with his hands -- his drop rates as a freshman and sophomore were 14% and 10%, respectively -- but he showed improvement in this as a junior.
The need here is clear. As mentioned earlier, the WR depth past JJ and KJ is abysmal. Even with Thielen and Osborn on the roster in 2022, the Vikings needed juice in the WR room. The 2022 Vikings had one top 5 WR in yards per route run (Jefferson). There was no other receiver in the top 100. Teams were not worried about Thielen or Osborn. Teams could put two or three defenders on Jefferson without any fear of what anyone else might do to their defense. Hockenson fixed this a bit down the stretch, but an outside playmaker was still needed.
The real question here is why the team opted not to go for CB Joey Porter Jr, who filled what many considered to be the team's biggest need and was a higher ranked prospect for Lance Zierlein, PFF, Danny Kelly, Matt Miller, and Dane Brugler. The answer here -- if I can take a guess and stretch my logic a bit -- is that the need at WR2 was greater than the need at CB. Patrick Peterson was the biggest loss in the secondary, and the team brought in Byron Murphy to try to fill that role. On offense, Minnesota had not brought in a replacement for Adam Thielen. The depth chart past Jefferson and Osborn was filled with bodies that might not make a 53-man roster on a lot of teams.

The biggest thing to consider when evaluating this trade is that the Vikings came into the draft with 5 picks, only two of which were in the top 100. In my biased opinion, this was a home run trade, even if the traditional charts disagree. To take three swings at the bat instead of one is a humble and wise strategy, especially for a team with limited draft capital. The move looks even better in hindsight because there were no CBs taken between 87 and 102.

Brett Kollman: "Feisty, physical press corner who definitely has to play more under control in the NFL to avoid flags, but he has all the competitiveness you want to see from a potential CB1 at the next level. Never backs down from anyone. Has easy gas to stay in control of a route from top down, even against true burners. Legit 4.4 speed and gets up to it quickly. Outstanding ball production... Held up extremely well despite being targeted often. Battle tested, aggressive, and confident... Very similar to Desmond Trufant."
An unrecruited high school positionless player out of high school that signed with JuCo San Mateo, Blackmon followed up four seasons at Colorado with a breakout 2022 campaign as one of the best defenders on the USC defense. The Trojans played a man-heavy scheme, which let Blackmon shine. He has great anticipation and instincts. His production this year says as much. He plays bigger than his size, and he has inside-outside versatility. He will have to clean up some of his physicality to avoid flags at the next level. He will also have to refine his technique to stay with the more complex routes he'll see. But he is a strong culture and scheme fit for what Brian Flores is bringing to the defense.
The need at CB was obvious even before hiring Flores. The Vikings ranked 31st in passing yards allowed, 26th in Passing DVOA, and 24th in EPA allowed per pass attempt. Bringing in Byron Murphy helps. So do the healthy returns of Booth and Evans. But Murphy has not yet shown that he can be a consistently great player (or at least not markedly better than what we got out of Patrick Peterson last year). And Booth and Evans are unproven. Blackmon -- taken with the last pick on Day 2 -- is not expected to come in and be Jalen Ramsey or Sauce Gardner. But in a shift to a more aggressive man-coverage defense with a thin CB room, Blackmon is an upside player that will have every chance to take a starting spot on a porous defense.

On top of entering the weekend with a mere 5 draft picks in the current year, the Vikings also entered with a mere 5 draft picks in the 2024 class (3rd rounder traded for Hockenson, 5th rounder traded for Reagor). Dropping 15 picks in a relatively flat part of the draft while adding a mid-Day 3 pick is good business given this team's lack of capital.
*Here we assume a future pick in round n is valued at the middle pick of round n+1, not accounting for compensatory picks. In this case, a 2024 5th is equated to pick 176.

Nate Tice: "A ton of fun. I just like this fit because of Brian Flores's defense. Just picture all of those mixture guys that the Patriots have used over the years... Jay Ward can be that"
A three year starter with reps at safety, slot, and outside CB, Ward is one of the most versatile players in the class. He possesses excellent length and movement skills. His experience at CB make him a fluid player in coverage. In the run game, Ward's size is a concern. His 188lbs Combine weight puts him in just the second percentile for safeties. This translates to issues with taking on blocks. He is a very aggressive player, beelining to the ball as soon as it's out. But his size coupled with his impatient playstyle lead to a lot of missed tackles. He was also flagged seven times last season.
In his final season in Miami, Flores was extremely creative with how he employed his safeties. Jevon Holland had the 2nd most blitzes in the league at the position. The number 1 player? His teammate Brandon Jones. With the defense taking on Flores's amoeba identity, an aggressive player with experience at multiple positions has the potential to find a role early on. The defense will look to utilize him similar to how Jevon Holland was used as a rookie. And with Harrison Smith well into the twilight of his career, Ward is a timely pick as the team attempts to thread the needle in their competitive rebuild.

It's a bit strange to see Adofo-Mensah move away from the analytics charts in favor of the traditional ones, but the value swap here is not absurd. The real question with this trade will be if Roy ends up being a true contributor.

Lance Zierlein: " The more you watch, the more you like the way Roy plays the game... Despite limited starting experience at LSU, he already displays signs of a rush plan and the athletic talent to execute it. Roy is an ascending talent with the potential to become a quality starter. "
After a 30 tackle, 1.5 sack campaign as a rotational player in 2021, Roy shifted from a penetrating 3T position to more of a traditional nose tackle under new HC Brian Kelly. This transition let Roy shine as a run stuffer. He eats space and is incredibly tough to move from his spot. He averaged almost 52 snaps a game in 2022 and his motor never let up. He has some work to do if he wants to be a three down player, particularly as a pass rusher. His bend and balance in this front are especially lacking.
The Vikings' front office seems to be a lot more comfortable with the current IDL room than I am. Harrison Phillips is a plus starter. Past that, the roster is filled with unproven youth or proven subpar players. As a 5th round pick, Roy has an uphill battle to separate himself from that group. But he's a good lottery ticket at this price. His positional versatility ensures that the defense can simply put their best players on the field.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah: "We added a really talented player that has a ton of upside... The ability to make decisions, throw the football accuracy, deal with conflict when it comes his way, and sometimes try to make a play outside the framework of the playcall. He does all those things at a really great level... That's an outstanding young man. I'd like to see him lead my team or any organization I'm a part of."
Despite being the third oldest prospect in the QB class, Hall only has 24 starts under his belt due to two years on religious mission and one year with a hip injury. But when Hall took over for Zach Wilson in 2021, he hit the ground running. BYU went 10-3 in that first year with Hall compiling a 4:1 TD:INT ratio. He is a two time team captain, and all reports of his character are off the charts.
Hall is a poised pocket passer capable of extending plays and picking up yardage on the ground. He was only sacked 12 times in 2022, which is a testament to both BYU's offensive line and Hall's ability to create under pressure. There are conflicting opinions on Hall's upside and arm strength, with Lance Zierlein calling his arm "unimpressive" while Kyle Crabbs claiming that hall has a "live arm with the ability to throw with juice off platform". Where there was near-universal agreement was in his understanding of the scheme, as Hall operated BYU's RPO-heavy offense like a machine. He has a clean release and quickly gets into a rhythm. His largest universal concerns are his age (he turned 25 in March) and his injury history (missed 20 games in the last 4 years). He also has ball security issues with 13 fumbles over his career.
I expected the Vikings to draft a QB in this class. The only question was if it would have been via a trade up on Day 1 or a flyer on Day 3 (or a falling Will Levis). With his age, size, and injury history, there are plenty of questions about what Hall can be. He will have a year in practice to put together his audition tape to be Kirk Cousins's replacement -- it's certainly a viable path for this team to take a RiddeHowell/Mills-esque year to evaluate Hall while they continue retooling the defense. But the more likely path is that Hall becomes a long-term backup for the team. Cousins has been the model of health, but that doesn't mean that QB2 is an unimportant position. Sean Mannion, Kellen Mond, and Nick Mullens have manned that position to various degrees over the past few years. None has shown that they can be a competent plug-in player if needed. There is some hope that Hall -- who operated the BYU offense with a mechanic efficiency -- can be that player.

Dane Brugler: "Overall, McBride is unproven as a pass catcher and blocker, which might restrict his NFL role, but his contact balance, vision and lateral agility are among the best this running back draft class has to offer"
In an era of advanced metrics and Combine showmanship, perhaps the trait that has gone underappreciated more than any other in RB scouting is balance. McBride may have the best balance in the entire RB class outside of Bijan Robinson. He comes from a heavy outside zone scheme at UAB, where he led the FBS in yards per game and set school records for single-game and single-season rushing. McBride absorbs contact like a sponge. His short area burst is strong, and he makes defenders miss with power and finesse. McBride has ideal size and toughness. His concerns are simple. He was not utilized as a receiver in college, and he had more career fumbles than catches in that time. McBride profiles as a two-down player at the next level. Although Adofo-Mensah has voiced his belief that McBride's passing game usage was a product of scheme rather than ability, McBride still has to prove that he is more than just a short yardage runner in the NFL.
After spending a pick in back to back years on RB and re-signing Mattison to a modest contract, RB was a bit of an unexpected pick for this regime. Dalvin Cook still seems to be movable (a likely cut candidate at this point), which would make this pick more logical. Chandler struggled with injuries as a rookie, but both he and Nwangwu profile more as speedy scatbacks than true between-the-tackle runners like Mattison. Even Mattison has never been a true three-down back. McBride plays much more similarly to Mattison than the other backs on the team. He will try to carve out a role behind him as the future thunder to the lightning provided by Chandler and Nwangwu.

He served as a team captain the past two seasons and finishes his collegiate career with over 1100 total yards and 24 total TDs. He was an All-Conference player for the DII NSIC Bulldogs. Whether Ojile participates at FB or TE, he'll need to prove his versatility to beat out the veterans on the depth chart. He earned the starting role for South Alabama as a redshirt junior before transferring to SE Louisiana, where he took some snaps at WR in spring games. Johnson's stats were unimpressive as a starting QB, notching just 1354 yards and a 2:1 TD:INT ratio in 11 starts. He has good size and instincts as a runner, but he has basically no experience playing WR.

A 5 year starter for TCU and SMU, Ali is a fundamentally sound center prospect with good body control and core strength. He has experience playing at all 5 OL positions but spent most of the past 4 years at center. His lack of athleticism and length are likely the reason he went undrafted.

It's hard to find very much information on an undrafted lineman from a DII school whose toughest opponent was the University of New Haven. Chen is an OT prospect that is viewed as a ball of clay. Chen's 40 yard dash and 3 cone were underwhelming to say the least, but he was an above average tester in burst and explosiveness drills. That combined with his length make him an interesting project.

The highest profile UDFA signing of the class, Carter was getting 1st round buzz this time last year. At that time, Carter was coming off an 18.5 TFL / 15.5 sack season. However, Carter struggled to repeat his production as a senior, notching just 3.5 sacks. Carter finished out the draft cycle with lackluster testing, failing to run under a 4.90 in the 40 yard dash and weighing in at a mere 256 lbs -- a big concern given his 81 inch wingspan and towering stature. Carter has a ton of upside, but he doesn't have the frame to be a real NFL player right now. After 4 years training to be an officer in the US Army, he will need at least one season (maybe more) in an NFL weight room where he can focus on building muscle mass. He'll look to follow the mold of fellow Army player Alejandro Villanueva, who added 43 lbs to his 277 lbs frame entering the league before becoming a 7-year starter. Luckily, he joined the team with one of the best training facilities in the league.

Ranked the 11th best LB for Daniel Jeremiah, 9th for Dane Brugler, and 7th for PFF, many thought Pace could have gone as early as Round 3. Pace was a one year starter for the Bearcats after transferring from Miami (Ohio), and he hit the ground running. He led the AAC in tackles and TFLs. He is a smaller player (although not abnormally so in today's game) that plays with his hair on fire. He gives tremendous effort on every play and is always around the ball. Pace is a super tough player that loves to tackle. His size is a concern; he gets washed out of plays too easily. He is also lacking in coverage skills, struggling to stay connected in man coverage. Still, it's incredible that Pace went undrafted. He's an easy special teams projection as a rookie with the upside to be put in position to win under Flores.

Coldon is an instinctual football player that relies on his feel to create ball production. He spent 5 years at Wyoming before transferring to Oklahoma and leading the team in INTs and PBUs. In zone, Coldon watches the QB and looks for the right cue to understand when and where the ball is headed.
CB NaJee Thompson, Georgia Southern

2022 Stats: 13 Gm 37 TKL 1 TFL 11 PD 1 INT
Thompson's love for the game is undeniable. After struggling to latch onto the Georgia Southern WR room, Thompson approached his head coach asking to be exclusively a special teams player. He relishes being a gunner on punts. He eventually got moved to CB in 2021, logging 557 snaps at the position in 2022. He's undeveloped at the position, but his special teams prowess gives him a good shot at the roster.
CB Jaylin Williams, Indiana
Profile: RSr 5'9" 184lbs 9.125" Hand 29.875" Arm 71.75" Wing 4.43 40\ 1.58 10* 34.5" BJ* 9'11" BJ* 4.20 Shuttle* 7.01 3c* 13 Bench* 5.54 RAS*
2022 Stats: 10 Gm 40 TKL 2.5 TFL 7 PD 1 FR 1 BLK
A longtime role player for the Hoosiers before becoming a fulltime starter in 2019, Williams's 6 career INTs were the most amongst active players on the team last season. He earned second team All-Confernece honors in 2020 and was an honorable mention in 2021.
K Jack Podlesny, Georgia
Profile: RSr 6'0" 195lbs 29.25" Arms 9" Hands 74.75" Wing
2022 Stats: 31 Att 26 Made 50 Long 109 Kickoff 72 Touchbacks 74 PAT Att 73 PAT Made
Ranked as Dane Brugler's 4th kicker and Lance Zierlein's 3rd kicker, Podlesny enters Vikings camp following a career that saw him walk on to Georgia's football team and finish with an 82% hit rate. He hit all but one extra point last season for the national champion Bulldogs. A concern with Podlesny is his leg strength. His accuracy beyond 40 yards falls to just 54%. His clutchness may also come into question as he missed two kicks in the national championship semifinals against Ohio State.

2024 Needs

Starters Needed: QB, OG, EDGE, DT -- Whether due to expiring contracts (Cousins, Cleveland, Davenport, Hunter) or overall suckitude (Ingram, Lowry), we need to find new starters at this positions in 2024. Could we go on with average-level free agents? Maybe. Should we? Maybe not.
We'll see how the group plays: CB, LB, RB -- These are positions where the front office is counting on young players (Booth, Evans, Asamoah) to fill the roles of departed starters. If those players take that step up, these positions drop on the needs list. Otherwise, we're in for a rough season.
Depth needed: WR -- The depth after Jefferson, Osborn, and Addison is not great. And Osborn is entering a contract year. Unless Keenan McCardell works some magic with Jalen Nailor or Trishton Jackson or Thayer Thomas, this should be a position we add to next year.

Final Thoughts

Versatility. When we look at this Vikings draft class, that's the first word that comes to mind, and it comes in big bold letters. Addison has inside-outside versatility. So does Mekhi Blackmon. Jay Ward is the most versatile of the group, capable of playing every DB position plus some spot snaps at LB. Roy has been productive everywhere from 0T to 4i. And the team has talked about how much they believe McBride can contribute as a pass catcher on top of his bruiser mindset as a between-the-tackles runner.
On offense, this shift seems to stem from a philosophical change following the TJ Hockenson acquisition last year. O'Connell's unit went from trying to copy-paste Sean McVay's outside zone scheme (largely a 3WR offense) to Kyle Shanahan's outside zone scheme (largely a TE-FB offense). And in that mold, O'Connell was looking for players he could use to create the illusion of complexity. That is, how can we employ versatile players to present defenses the threat of multiplicity?
On defense, the answer is a lot simpler. By bringing over Brian Flores, the team is hoping for a jolt in tenacity and an overall move to a hybrid amoeba scheme. You can look historically at how Bill Belichick has utilized flexibility in his defenses to maximize his gameplan for whatever offensive scheme is next on the menu. You can look at players on the line of scrimmage that have experience in both 43 and 34 schemes (Hunter, Phillips, Lynch, Bullard). And in the secondary, look no further than the selection of Jay Ward as an attempt to clone players like Jevon Holland and Kyle Dugger.
As Adofo-Mensah has repeatedly said, he approaches his job with humility. He listens to those around him and he finds the point where stories marry data to make informed decisions. And in O'Connell, he found someone who shares that mentality. With the emphasis on versatility, that mindset can now be applied on a weekly (and play-by-play) basis to opponents. We'll see how successful that strategy is as the team continues to straddle the line between competitive and rebuilder, but there is certainly an energy around the fanbase with the continued success of the offense and the addition of Brian Flores.

2023.06.07 16:51 Dependent_Guard_2273 False Positive for Opioids; CYA Memo?

tldr: below - should I leave a CYA letter for a false positive for opioids with a small medical practice that is part of a larger hospital system? Or just let it lie?
A week ago I (40sM) went in to get a physical filled out as an adult volunteer for a scouting activity, and with that refilled a long standing Adderall Rx. I live in a rural area, 60 minutes from a big hospital - the local practice hasn't been able to keep a regular physician, it's been a rotation of NPs.
To complete the Rx, I had to give a piss test. I could see the results then as showing hot for cannabinoids (no surprise, I use edibles); amphetamines (from the Rx), and a third showed positive but I could not decipher the code. I asked about it at the time.
I was told the Rx would be refilled. The pharmacy didn't have it. I played phone tag with the pharmacy and the physician for several days until getting a call back from the NP today, where I was informed that I was being fired by the practice for, "lying on the contract" and that she could not help me with uncovering the source of the opioid positive.
At first I was concerned at how to uncover the source of the false positive. Neither the NP nor anyone at the practice was willing to even talk with me - my concern was a health issue, as I've seen plenty of articles about accidental opioid contamination / ingestion.
However, as I researched the specific test I was administered - one of the most common false positives is Benadryl (diphenhydramine - one reference of many). I am taking a ton of this - as many as x4 25 mg tabs a night for another issue, which I saw another physician for - and for which there are notes in my medical records that they had access to.
I'm disappointed in the way I was treated and am planning on finding a new practice - is it worth documenting a CYA note and/or memo to the hospital?
TLDR:
Small rural medical practice fired me as a patient for a positive opioid test. I do not take opioids. After researching, I'm not worried I'm getting exposed to 'stealth' opioid contamination and there's a very rational explanation. Is it worth leaving a letter on file to them as a CYA? Or just let it lie?

2023.06.07 14:47 WillieKeeler96 Line 'Em Up 6/7/23 vs. Brewers RHP Corbin Burnes

Hmph. Tough one last night. Removing Santander in the 8th? Pitching Voth in the 10th? Perplexing, but these threads are fora for forward-thinking, not second-guessing.
You know the rules. See if you can pick out today's starting lineup before Roch posts it. One point for every correct position in the batting order, and one point for every correct position in the field. (e.g. if your lineup includes 2. Rutschman C, then you get two points if Adley catches and hits in the 2 hole).
Yesterday's winner was another first time player: Congratulations to u/RicharlisonsLeftNut for scoring 15 points.
14 points: u/racefan9, u/sports_junky18
13 points: u/OrangeBuffalo8, u/ScoutNWilder, u/Clarice_Ferguson, u/Zay_Jack, u/Chizzleslip, u/correct_misnomer
12 points: u/WillieKeeler96, u/CopperTheBear, u/JTG523
11 points: u/majahi
10 points: u/maLeFxcTor
Today's pitching matchup is RHP Corbin Burnes (4-4, 3.75 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 69.2 IP) vs. RHP Dean Kremer (6-2, 4.43 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 65.0 IP). An audition of sorts for Burnes? I would doubt that the Brewers are going to trade their best pitcher while they're in first place in the NL Central, but that's what they did with Hader last year.
Okay, enough from me. Show me what you got against Burnes.
EDIT 3:59: The lineup has been posted. Please stand by for calculation.
  1. Frazier 2B
  2. Rutschman C
  3. Hays LF
  4. Santander RF
  5. Hicks CF
  6. Henderson 3B
  7. O'Hearn 1B
  8. Lester DH
  9. Mateo SS

EDIT: We have two winners, each of whom scored 14 points. u/Zay_Jack (1st W) and u/ScoutNWilder (3rd W)! Salute.

7 points: u/Shiderme
Mountcastle on the platoon. Not really a decision that can be argued with when the guy has a sub-.700 OPS. Good thing Brohearn has been tearing the cover off that sucker. Every game there's a different star, that's the magic of Orioles Baseball!

2023.06.07 14:30 MakerOfMillionaires [Announcement] /r/MillionaireMakers stands in solidarity with other subreddits in protest of Reddit’s API changes!

Background

In case you haven’t heard, first of all, congratulations.
On July 1st, Reddit plans to change their API pricing structure to a model that will directly affect app developers, moderators, and third-party app users, among others.
Here is a link to an open letter by many of the moderators and communities on the platform in protest of the changes: https://www.reddit.com/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/

How This Affects Us

The moderators of /MillionaireMakers use third-party apps to perform their moderation duties best on Reddit. Apollo in particular has been used to post on different accounts, post and sticky relevant threads and comments, access mod mail to communicate with winners, and monitor user activity on the subreddit, some of the features personally paid for to both support the developer and be able to moderate more effectively. It’s also a good app to browse Reddit with, the functionality is intuitive and the design combines the best of Reddit and iOS’s design language.
Another aspect that this could affect us is that the introduction to API pricing can now mean being charged to run an Entry Thread. I say could as our API usage in contrast to a third-party app is minuscule, both in scale and in frequency (occasional Decembers not withstanding). However, this is still a serious concern as currently the only financial costs of maintaining the subreddit have been in renewing the website running the mailing list.

How This Affects You

For you, if you use a third-party app like Apollo, Reddit Is Fun, and Sync, then the main way you use Reddit is going to be changed. You must use the official app to explore the platform, of which there could be features lacking in the official version and the potential for trackers. This also puts into risk other features that you may use, such as navigating on old.reddit.com to access the platform.
In addition, your moderators will not be able to moderate. People that rely on third-party apps to access Reddit and perform their moderation duties will find it much more cumbersome or even impossible, as there will undoubtedly be times where there is no easy access to a computer. You will see more spam and irrelevant content without the help of moderators.

What Are We Doing

First of all: We will not be putting our subreddit on private, nor will we cancel the Entry Thread!
We believe that setting this subreddit to private will be either ineffective or, more consequently, detrimental to what the subreddit stands for, and cancelling the Entry Thread, even moreso. Threads here are already limited as it is, with the only posts being from the mod team and from the winners. Additionally, a shutdown will prevent easy access to winner’s donation information.
However, we want to bring as much awareness to the issue as possible! We introduced the API changes when they were first announced as something we’d pay close attention to, we are currently making this Announcement thread expressing our solidarity with other subreddits, and we will once again highlight the issue come this month’s Entry Thread, which will take place as scheduled on June 16 at 23:00 UTC. The most unfortunate case scenario is for this issue to evolve into the new normal, and we want to do everything in our power to prevent that.

What Can You Do

If you’re a user, there are many things you can already do, such as spreading the word on a different platform or contacting the admins expressing your concerns. However, I would also like to encourage the idea of joining a new platform, even if at the moment there are not as many users as you’d expect there to be. After all, if you are the product, then it’d be a shame if there was no more product to go around. I’d recommend taking a look at Lemmy and Tildes. Note on Lemmy though, as you create your profile, use a less popular Lemmy instance such as sopuli.xyz or lemmy.one as the main instance is already sharing they’re experiencing server overload from the influx of people joining. Tildes also has a decently active subreddit as well over on /Tildes that you can access.
If you work in Reddit, please emphasize to the people around you how detrimental this can be for the health of the users and for the future of the platform. Reddit is not like Twitter, many users here actively participate in and read discussion, others volunteer their own free time out of passion for a community, and if an idea is popular, the community can band together to do incredible things. It is very possible for the people key to moderating on this platform to migrate away, thus introducing a host of problems that you all may not have even considered, and it may not be worth the risk of changing from the status quo into a structure that could have ramifications for communities on here.

Conclusion

We stand in support of subreddits for the ability to use third-party apps to perform our duties as moderators. We will continue to highlight this issue in the times to come. We encourage everyone possible to responsibly take action and see that a difference can be made.
As for the people working at Reddit, as moderators, we again implore you to think of the negative effects that the changes being brought can have as a whole. Moderators rely on these tools immensely and for them to be taken away can be incredibly detrimental. We appreciate your time and we hope that our actions all across the platform have helped you reconsider or become more active where you are.
Finally, thank you to the community at /MillionaireMakers for taking the time to read this. This is unprecedented for this subreddit, the last time there was a big non-traditional post was around the time of [Draw #73]. Thank you all for your kindness and your attention.
