2023.06.03 19:03 Hal_Keaton [Totk] My desperate and successful attempt at completing a hard side quest *minor spoilers*
I wanted to share how I managed to complete a certain side quest by the skin of my teeth. Because gosh darn it, did I barely make it.
So for those who do not know, there is a side quest that opens up on top of the Temple of Time after you complete the 4 dungeons on the surface. A Construct will appear, informing you that it will impart knowledge about how the sky islands came to be, so long as you prove yourself worthy of the knowledge. In order to prove yourself, you must light the three bonfires across the Great Sky Island, without touching the ground except for the roof of the Temple of Time. You have 12 hours to complete this task, and get back to the roof.
My first attempt ended in failure, because I kinda skipped most of the Construct's instructions. Well, that was my fault. Let's try again.
This resulted in a multitude of attempts, because this quest is by far one of the most frustrating Zelda experiences I have ever had. Not only do you have to location the bonfires AND light then, but you have to do it on a single attempt. If you try to scout out where the bonfires might be beforehand, you will not find them. They are placed on the map only when you are trying the quest. Which means you have to location them all during any attempt you make. Thankfully, I quickly learned (after some wasted tries) they always spawn in the same spots, so it was only a matter of finding them first and then making a plan.
First, I tried making a little plane, but the Zonai plane piece will eventually despawn after a certain amount of time. I had just enough time to get to the first closest bonfire, light it, turn the plane around, and then get back to the roof and reset the plane.
Every time I failed, I would lose my Zonai parts I used, which means bringing out more Zonai parts to try again. This took enough attempts to drain my Zonai resources, so at one point I had to leave and go get more fans just to keep trying.
Finally, after quite a few attempts, I managed to locate all three bonfires. Now it was time to plan. First, I would make my plane, and light the closest bonfire. Then, I would get the plane back to the Temple roof, reset the plane, then go for the second one. Rinse and repeat. It was perfect.
Except for my first bonfire, as my plane sailed by and I drew my bow, I took a few steps to reposition myself and stepped off the plane.
I immediately panic. At this point, I had spent a long time doing this quest and I was frustrated. I didn't want to keep trying anymore, and I certainly didn't want to start over. I pulled out my paraglider to slow my descent and paused, wondering what to do now. I then remembered that during some of my attempts, I had discovered that those giant, floating Zonai platforms do NOT count as the ground. I can land on them safely, and they just so happened to be nearby. So I unpause, and just managed to glide to one.
I open up my menu and look at my parts. I needed now to raise the platform, and guide it over to the bonfires to light them. The only problem is, I only have one stirring controller left. Ok, I can make this work. I take out the controller, two fans, a flame emitter, and a balloon. Using these parts, I made the floating platform into a flying machine. With this machine, I was able to fly over to all three bonfires.
After lighting the final bonfire (the furthest one from the Temple), it was time to turn around. Except, seconds after starting my return trip, the platform began to blink. I had forgotten that these ALSO despawn after a certain amount of time.
NO. I DON'T WANT TO START OVER. In hopes to recover, I remember there is a second platform that I had not used yet and maybe I was close enough to paraglide over to it. So as the platform vanished from beneath my feet, I jump off and try to get to that second platform.
Unfortunately, I was too far away. By the time I was even close to them, I was also below them. I couldn't reach them now. It was over.
Except... I saw a waterfall. That's right, this island has waterfalls falling into space all over the place. This one I might be able to make it. So I shift gears, pause to put on my Zora armor, and then glide over to the waterfall. I JUST make it, enough for Link to swim up the waterfall.
Initially, I had planned to use the new height to glide over to the platform and make a cruder flying device that I cannot steer. But when I was launched into the air, I saw a pathway of waterfalls that all led to the Temple, and realized I could just do that.
So, armed with my Zora armor and paraglider, I used the waterfalls to cross the Great Sky Island, all the way over to the Temple of Time's roof, finally completing the quest with almost no fans or controllers left in my pocket, and my patience on a thin string.
My reward for my ingenuity and patience was some text about the past and a paraglider skin.
Needless to say, while I am proud of my desperate and successful attempt to finish this quest, I will never be doing it again.

TLDR: it’s fixed now! I think. After some rides around town of similar distance to my previous test, no more engine dying. I rebuilt the carburetor and played with the fuel/air screw. Thanks for all the advice.
A question: what did I do in this process, which fixed my decel popping? Clean carb, tune aifuel and idle. I don’t get what would fix that! Unexpected and happy side effect.
Long post:
I have no prior experience with wrenching, but now I have some decent experience and lessons learned! What a learning process.
I started with the easy stuff: check gas, change spark plugs, service the air filter. Issue persists. Messed with the idle speed, same issue. At this point I don’t even know the air fuel screw exists or what it does, yes - I didn’t research enough.
So now I research how to rebuild and clean the carburetor. At this point, the tutorials I’m watching look nothing like my carburetor… wtf? Realize it’s a Mikuni TM40 flat side carb. Interesting, I knew the previous owner did some mods, but I didn’t realize the carb was different since I’ve never worked on it until now. Okay!
Ordered the rebuild kit, carb cleaner, and waited. Kit arrives, take the carb off (that was hard for me on its own….) I clean out the degraded gaskets, rubber, etc. jets don’t seem clogged, but I cleaned those out thoroughly anyway, the pilot jet is amazingly small. Carb seemed dirty, but not filthy. I really have no frame of reference for how things should look, and I really hope I can put this thing back together. Feeling discouraged since I’ve not found any smoking gun for my problem yet.
Reassemble everything, struggle BADLY getting my throttle cables inserted and tensioned correctly. Won’t go into details, but with this particular carb, on this particular frame, I wanted to just give up. I got it done though.
Idle screw and aifuel screw: I pretty much toss the spec values out the window here, since prev owner modded the DR a lot (new carb, drilled air box, myriad of other things). I basically played with both until I got a satisfactory result (watched videos online to compare the sound, I have no technometer).
End result: bike starts up quickly, with no choke now. nice! Loud decel popping is gone now…. Admittedly I kinda grew to like that, haha! I have to vomit this story here, since none of my friends or family like bikes, and they wouldn’t appreciate or relish this troubleshooting victory as much as you guys might.

Just had a great experience flying United from one coast to the other. We ended up on a larger plane (777) than originally scheduled, which meant I lost my window seat (didn’t pay extra for it though) but got an aisle and TVs for all!
Getting on and off the plane was extremely smooth. The flight attendants were pros. I loved the app, so much info and it stayed on my phone’s home screen. And they had the flight map displayed on a big screen in our section as well.
The only downside is they really squish you all in there - but that’s true of economy on all airlines these days. And the window person in my row kept the shade down the whole time :( but right before descent I went to the bathroom and got to see the beautiful snowy mountains out someone else’s window. I was nervous, but honestly pretty cool how I just flew across the country and the day has only just begun here.

Can any union guys chime in? I’ve been non-union my whole career so I own all my stuff. I’m used to the shop you work for providing bits and blades and providing big equipment like mechanical benders and core drills. But I hear all the time from union guys that all power tools are provided by the contractor. Does that mean the GC goes out and buys 100 1/4” impacts and hammer drills so everyone can work then everyone returns them when the job is over? No hate, just really interested in how it works.

I have probably suffered with mental health issues all the way back to childhood. But it really began becoming a major problem for me when I was 17. I began suffering with extreme anxiety and extreme ocd. I got severe brain fog, depersonalization, the list goes on. I am now 32 and still suffering with the same mental health issues. But the depression has also gotten a lot worse as I have got older.
I went on 20mg of prozac from the age of 18 until 22. I quit the prozac because of sexual side effects. Mainly erectile dysfunction. But then I noticed all the severe mental health issues returned. Then over the course of 10 years from 22 until now I have tried many different medications, a handful of SSRI's, tried the SNRI venlafaxine, tried mirtazapine, tried reboxetine, tried pregeablin, tried diazapam, tried betablockers. All the SSRI's gave me severe sexual side effects, but none of the SSRI's helped me except prozac and lexapro. Lexapro 10mg helped me slightly for about a year, then it stopped working. No other medication I have tried has really helped me, and many of them made me feel much worse. So the only medication that has massively helped me is 20mg of prozac. I also was off all medication for most of the decade , I tried therapy about 4 times, anxiety groups, I tried to clean up my diet, exercise a lot, different types of supplements. Many different things I have tried to improve my mental health for well over a decade. The conclusion I have basically come to is nothing really works for me, except prozac.
I have been back on prozac 20mg for just over 11 weeks, and I can feel the difference on it. It just stops that mental torture constantly going on in my head. It makes me far more mentally stable than anything else I have tried. My mental health isn't even 100% perfect on prozac, but it has made me by far more mentally stable than anything else I have tried.
I can hardly go outside or be around other people when I am not on prozac because of severe anxiety. I am suicidal almost everyday, I get constant ruminating thoughts, severe brain fog, severe mood swings. It's like living with near constant mental torture, this is how I feel when I am not on prozac. Prozac seems to stop the worst of the mental health issues, and causes me by far the most mental stability and mental relief out of everything I have tried.
Because of how long I have had all these issues, and everything I have tried, I am really beginning to believe prozac is the only thing that works for me, and if I am not on it my mental health is going to be so bad that I will basically have no quality of life at all. But then the issue with the 20mg of prozac is the sexual side effects. I don't exactly always want to live with that all my life either.
I don't know what's so wrong with me that causes me to feel so mentally terrible and mentally unstable, but then simply being on 20mg of prozac seems to fix my mental issues for the most part.

So I guess I have always been interested in space, cosmology and cosmological phenomena and at around the age of 9 one summer night I saw my first UFO which added to and solidified that interest.
Flash forward to late middle school/early high school and I was reading a lot of material on philosophy, physics and cosmology. At some point I ended up watching through Cosmos with Carl Sagan. Of all of the many subjects and ideas covered in the program that definitely blew my younger mind one that always stuck with me and particularly in regards to the phenomena of UFOs was Sagan’s explanation of a possible fourth dimension (link below). Almost immediately after watching that section, I would often wonder about the possibility that UFOs are maybe four dimensional objects crossing onto our three dimensional plane. I think about this almost anytime I see another UFO video.
So I guess my question is: Is anyone aware of any writing on this? Has anyone else thought anything similar? Are there any of those weird quantum physics articles that talk about anything like this? Is this a stupid idea? Lol idk I guess that was a bunch of questions but any time I have looked into it myself I can’t find anything written on anything along the same lines which leads me think it’s probably not sound or worth exploring as an idea for most but I guess I can’t come up with why? There are full documentaries on lizard people lol this would seem a lot less far fetched. Idk open to any thoughts thanks for reading.

I know most people love it, but I don’t. This is my third child and first to co-sleep from day 1. He’s 4 months today. While I do like sleeping at night, I’m in so much pain it’s just not worth it. Not to mention, since he’s never slept in a bassinet/crib he has to be walked around and held/worn for every nap, which still seems to be 90% of the day. My other two kids are only 4 and 3 (at the end of the month) so the baby being attached to me, basically 24/7 is getting really unsustainable. I recently started trying to put him in the bassinet for bedtime, but he’ll only sleep 30 minutes or so before he wakes up crying and then I have to go to bed with him… at 7:30 at night… then I don’t get to eat dinner, or properly get ready for bed.
In the day I can barely play with my other kids because it wakes the baby. I can’t lift them into swings, or sit on the floor. I know it’s temporary but it’s been a long time since I’ve been this miserable. Something needs to change..

Hi guys, so I have made a profile review here last week - but the story for me changed significantly over the past week so im looking for some guidance as to what schools I should be targeting. My post MBA goal is BB investment banking. The tough thing here is that my GPA is pretty low so idk if schools like Stern would even apply to me as im at about the 90th percentile in GMAT but under the 10th percentile in GPA. Looking for the subs input.
Stats: US citizen, Multiracial male, half white half south american (non black/latino, west indies Caribbean)
760 GMAT (Q48, V46, IR7) // 3.1 GPA from top 30 undergrad institution. College athlete and double major in Poli Sci/Business. Large upward swing - went from 2.4 gpa after 3 semesters to finish with the 3.1
WE: 4.5 years at application of Corporate finance experience at a large regional bank and a BB bank currently. 2 YOE Rotational program with background in FP&A, Accounting, Audit, Treasury, Investor Relations. 2 years out of program as analyst and associate in Corporate development and FP&A. Experience with M&A (first company experienced merger of equals and was a part of the integration team on the corporate finance side integrating the two companies, ran model for small 50MM acquisition of a fintech healthcare company). No direct reports
EC's: 300 hours of community service as youth baseball coach. Founder of small business related to baseball training, been doing this training for last 5-6 years. So small dont even know if its worth mentioning.
My original targets when I had a 710 were Johnson, Darden, Tepper, UNC, and Georgetown. But with the 760 I feel this changes things. My new targets or at least what im thinking is below
Reach: H/S/W/ Yale SOM (Dont think id even apply to any of these, at most maybe wharton. Would consider Yale as im 35 points over the median gmat but their 80% range for gpa is 3.3)
Target: Columbia, Stern, Duke, Tuck
Saftey: Tepper, Johnson, UNC
What do we think? Is this realistic? Are my targets too high? Mainly just concerned because at places like Stern, I am right at the 90th percentile in GMAT but fall under the 10th percentile in GPA. I would say the dream school would be columbia. I have worked for 2 alums who are willing to write me solid solid rec letters too. Thanks guys

Stats: US citizen, Multiracial male, half white half south american (non black/latino, west indies Caribbean)
760 GMAT (Q48, V46, IR7) // 3.1 GPA from top 30 undergrad institution. College athlete and double major in Poli Sci/Business. Large upward swing - went from 2.4 gpa after 3 semesters to finish with the 3.1
WE: 4.5 years at application of Corporate finance experience at a large regional bank and a BB bank currently. 2 YOE Rotational program with background in FP&A, Accounting, Audit, Treasury, Investor Relations. 2 years out of program as analyst and associate in Corporate development and FP&A. Experience with M&A (first company experienced merger of equals and was a part of the integration team on the corporate finance side integrating the two companies, ran model for small 50MM acquisition of a fintech healthcare company). No direct reports
EC's: 300 hours of community service as youth baseball coach. Founder of small business related to baseball training, been doing this training for last 5-6 years. So small dont even know if its worth mentioning.
My original targets when I had a 710 were Johnson, Darden, Tepper, UNC, and Georgetown. But with the 760 I feel this changes things. My new targets or at least what im thinking is below
Reach: H/S/W/ Yale SOM (Dont think id even apply to any of these, at most maybe wharton. Would consider Yale as im 35 points over the median gmat but their 80% range for gpa is 3.3)
Target: Columbia, Stern, Duke, Tuck
Saftey: Tepper, Johnson, UNC
What do we think? Is this realistic? Are my targets too high? Mainly just concerned because at places like Stern, I am right at the 90th percentile in GMAT but fall under the 10th percentile in GPA. I would say the dream school would be columbia. I have worked for 2 alums who are willing to write me solid solid rec letters too. Thanks guys

airports are my favorite liminal space where nothing is real and nothing counts. fascinating to see what people are choosing to consume & imbibe in the early morning: shrimp tempura rolls and martinis, nacho platters, pizzas, wings, bird bath margaritas. was recently in Ireland and saw people eating literal mounds of sausages/black pudding and pints of beer at 9 a.m. the fact that duty free bags are clear feels like a gift, love looking at all the whiskey, cigs, toblerone the size of a cell phone tower, the occasional pair of impulse raybans or Chanel perfume. for a brief moment in time money and calories don’t matter, you don’t have a job or loved ones or a home, and you feel suddenly compelled to buy a stupid magazine or a John Grisham novel like it’s 1999
and then you get on the plane and someone coming down the aisle aggressively grabs the backs of all the seats like a goddamn gorilla to steady themselves even though there’s zero turbulence and you remember that flying sucks

Reading the other posts my question looks rather silly, but I can't solve this problem:
Two blocks of masses m1 = 0.3 kg and m2 = 0.5 kg, respectively, rest on a rough plane inclined at teta = 20° with respect to the horizontal direction. The two masses are connected by a spring of elastic constant k = 4 N/m. The dynamic friction coefficient between the plane and each of the two blocks is µD = 0.3 and the static friction coefficient is µS = 0.4. At the initial instant, the lower block m1 has a velocity v0 = 5m/s directed upwards, while the block m2 is stationary in equilibrium and the spring has its rest length. Determine: a) the velocity of block 1 when the static friction force on m2 vanishes; b) the compression of the spring when block 2 starts moving.
to answer question (b) I used Newton second law, the elastic force is equal to the weight componento parallel to the plane plus the max static friction force, and I think this is correct, then for point (a) I tried to use the conservation of energy, I wrote that the energy at the start, the cinetic energy of m1 is equal to the energy at the end, that is the cinetic energy of m1 plus the gravitational and elastic potential energies and the work done by friction, but it seems I'm missing somthig because I'm not getting the right result, I'm stuck on this problem and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
The answers indicated are (a) vf = 4.19 m/2 , (b) x = 0.88 m.

I work at a diamond store in an East coast region (holding back info to protect myself bc I am not sure how many diamond stores there are). I’m in a SS role where I am working at the customer service desk, but the last 3 months we have been short staffed. They won’t allow us to hire more than 1 PT cashier after 6 months of asking, but our business increased so much we became a diamond store. We have lost 4-5 FT cashiers, 2 sanitation and 3 PT cashiers since December, but they said that only allows us room for 1 more PT cashier labor wise and 2 more PT CA/sanitation swings.
Is anyone else having labor issues at a diamond store? Does the math and reasoning make sense? Where the fuck does that money go!??

My gf's 6 yo small dog has a lump on her shoulder (half a golf ball size). Sage Veterinary, the big cancer vet in our area, has diagnosed a soft tissue sarcoma and recommends removal- $4,000 plus post care etc. The service thus far at Sage has been subpar and we just feel like they are dollar driven and wonder if they aren't taking advantage of people's hardship. Has anyone been to UC Davis or any other alternative to Sage? She is also considering travel to another state or lower cost area. Thanks for any thoughts!
