My wife and I have a Security system that we do not use. We used to in the past, but the power was wired through the walls of our house and coming out of a power outlet, to a plug that was then plugged into that same power outlet. It caused the outlet to not be able to have a protective cover on it and was all around done poorly. Eventually I removed the plug, really it fell off because again it was done poorly, and we decided we would no longer use the system.
The system was in the house when my wife purchased her home and at some point when she was having issues with it they did send a tech out to fix the system and did a minor upgrade (wasn’t asked for).
Since we decided not to use the system we called to cancel and they are saying that in order to cancel we have to buy out the contract. We argue that we did not sign any contracts with them and they tell us it was a “verbal contract” which neither of us ever remember agreeing to.
When we ask for a copy of the phone call with us agreeing to the “verbal contract” they say they cannot send it to us, but they can have someone review the call and let us know the results of that review. This seems really shady to us and my wife did tell them to send us a copy of the call or we will be getting an attorney involved.
Is it legal for them to not provide us a copy of this “verbal contract”. Are we really roped into this contract for the next 29 months with the only option of reprieve being to buy it out?

What benefits does storm chasing have scientifically, in 2023? We aren't exactly banging rockets together anymore, and the day and age of "any data is good data" is long gone. I can see two main motivations for research in storm chasing historically, one being understanding tornadogenesis and the relationship of the tornado and the parent storm(VORTEX/2) and understanding tornadic wind structure to better design tornado resistant structures(TWISTEX) While close range video is stunning and captivating, and the ability to film high quality tornado is accessible as it has been, it has little to no scientific value, atleast in my humble opinion. Single point, in situ wind and pressure measurements, either obtained from a probe or armored vehicle, seem pretty useless aside from the wow factor. Congrats, you obtained a small parcel of data in an extremely complex and chaotic environment. That's surely gonna help you look for trends in a chaotic phenomena where no two manifestations are truly alike. In order to be useful, I see in situ measurements must be very coordinated, have multiple data points, either at different locations or elevations(if you can get both, that would be great) this sort of effort would require a huge operation on the scale of VORTEX, not one 10 people and three vehicles can accomplish. And that only seems to work well for recording internal tornado wind and pressure structures. As for the tornado and it's relationship to the parent storm, since you really aren't gonna be able to have a ton of data points up and down the entire funnel and into the storm itself constantly through it's entire life cycle, your best bet is mobile radar. In that case, we already have numerous datasets for tornadoes from mobile radars. I think ideally we should try to aim for one or two more "Goshen" type datasets to compare and contrast. But I think there is another, more practical option for this type of research is high resolution simulation and modeling. At our current technology, we can model supercell thunderstorms at a resolution of 10m. However to more accurately model this type of deal we need much higher resolution, ideally less than a meter. Only then I think we will truly be able to accurately approximate a tornado via computer simulation, and understand the true processes in a tornado. For engineering work with understanding tornado effects on buildings, you can turn to physical models. Texas Tech has built one for modeling tornado forces as they move over buildings, and Iowa State has had one that does tornadoes and microbursts for over a decade now. So now I want to ask again. What scientific purposes do you think storm chasing serves in 2023?

My boyfriend and I recently signed a lease for a new apartment, and a huge reason we decided on moving there was because they said they would be able to accommodate us a super early move in to cover the week gap between the start of their lease and the end of our current lease as they would call current residents to see who was moving out early so we could move in early. With less than a month until move in our new apartment management has contacted us and said someone is living in the unit we are supposed to move into and they cannot force them to move out so we’ll have to wait until the beginning of their lease which would leave my boyfriend, myself, and our three pets homeless not to mention all of our belongings. We messaged our current apartment management and they said they are unable to extend are lease and are coming to collect our keys and do a move out inspection on the day our lease ends. A few days ago my boyfriend and I went to see where our apartment was located inside the new apartment building to see if we would need to get help moving. Upon finding our future apartment their were late rent notices, and package slips taped and tucked all over the door dating clear back from April! The new property management has told us the current resident has stated that they want to stay the full term of their lease, but when asked about it again they continue to tell us they have not heard back from this person once! Is there anything my boyfriend and I can do to ensure we won’t be homeless with our pets and belongings for a week? (another note, our current lease says they can’t do a late move out but then the lease however states that “if a holdover does occur” implying that they would be able to do a late move out, would make us pay rent for everyday we stay and then 25 percent of however much that totals out to) (we live in Iowa)
