2023.06.04 22:08 NDNCDNTXN 529 plans, state vs Fidelity
I live in Texas and looking to open a 529 plan for my 1 year old. Been looking at the NY, Ohio and Illinois state plans as they've had good review. But I also saw a Fidelity 529 growth portodlia with great returns but much higher fees. Long term is the Fidelity plan a better option than the state plans?
TIA!

2023.05.25 20:22 jimbobbypaul Ranking the Top 131 FBS Programs of the Last 40 Years: 92. Troy
Main hub thread with the full 131 rankings 40 years ago, Troy was in Division II. No, not Division 1-AA—Division II, the third highest level of college football. They moved up to 1-AA in 1993 with 3rd year head coach Larry Blakeney, who turned out to be a game-changer for the program over the next 2 decades. During their 8 years in Division 1-AA, Troy made the playoffs 7 times, the semifinals 2 times, and won the Southland Conference 3 times. Since moving to the FBS in 2001, Troy’s been one of the most consistent Group of 5 schools thanks to the foundation Blakeney built, who went 178-113-1 in his 24 years at Troy.

- 6-3 bowl record
- 0 consensus All-Americans
- 13 NFL players drafted
With 7 conference titles in 22 FBS seasons, Troy has essentially won a conference title every 3 years. Combine that with a 6-3 bowl record and a .548 win percentage, and you get a model example of how to execute a proper FCS → FBS transition. A whopping 5 Sun Belt titles were thanks to Blakeney, winning all of them straight from 2006-10. Afterwards came current West Virginia coach Neal Brown (2017) and Jon Sumrall (2022). The top NFL players out of Troy are Hall of Fame LB DeMarcus Ware and DE Osi Umenyiora.
Top 5 Seasons
Worst Season: 2014 (3-9 overall, 3-5 Sun Belt) Troy hit a bit of a rough patch during the last 4 years of Blakeney’s tenure, going just 17-31 from 2011-14 after winning 5 straight Sun Belt titles. It was time for Blakeney to retire and he did, leaving as the 4th winningest collegiate coach in the state of Alabama all-time (behind Bear Bryant, “Shug” Jordan, and Cleveland Abbott). A season opening 10-48 loss to UAB was bad enough, but a 35-38 embarrassment to Abilene Christian 2 weeks later was essentially the end of the season. Troy got their first win against eventual 2-10 New Mexico State to be 1-5, and managed to sneak in wins over Idaho and Georgia State at the end of the year, who went a combined 2-21 in 2014. Overall Troy just had an uninspiring offense which averaged 21.8 PPG and gave up 36.2 PPG. QB Brandon Silvers did set an NCAA record though—highest completion % by a freshman, with 70.5%, throwing for 1832 yards 11 TD 3 INT. Neal Brown was hired after Blakeney left, and took the program to new heights.
5. 2009 (9-4 overall, 8-0 Sun Belt) This was Blakeney’s 4th of 5 straight titles, and the only season of his to appear in the top 5. It was a strange start, as Troy lost 14-31 to a meh Bowling Green team and 6-56 to Tim Tebow’s Florida. They dominated the Sun Belt as expected the rest of the year though, beating 2nd placed Middle Tennessee 31-7 and 3rd placed UL Monroe 42-21. They won 7 straight before losing 20-56 to Arkansas, and finished with blowout wins over FAU and UL Lafayette. Troy put up a good fight in a 41-44 2OT loss to #25 Central Michigan, featuring one of the best QB battles of the bowl season between CMU’s Dan LeFevour and Troy’s Levi Brown. Brown threw for 4254 yards 23 TD 9 INT on the year for Troy, winning Sun Belt POTY and ranking 2nd in the nation in passing yards. WR Jerrel Jernigan was one of the most dangerous players in the nation, racking up 1101 receiving yards, 266 rushing yards, 897 kick return yards, and 5 total TD. Brown was drafted in the 7th round by the Buffalo Bills in the 2010 NFL Draft, and Jernigan in the 3rd round of 2011 by the New York Giants, returning 3 kicks for 71 yards in the 2011 season Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.
4. 2018 (10-3 overall, 7-1 Sun Belt) Coming into the year, everyone knew it was a 2-horse race for the Sun Belt East between Appalachian State and Troy. Troy had 7 preseason 1st/2nd Team All-Sun Belt selections on defense after ranking 11th in the nation in PPG allowed the previous year. Troy embarrassed Nebraska and new head coach Scott Frost in Lincoln in week 3, winning 24-19 thanks to 2 INTs thrown by Nebraska QB Andrew Bunch. Troy (7-2 overall, 5-0 Sun Belt) faced Georgia Southern (7-2, 4-1) in a pivotal Sun Belt East matchup. After going down 14-3 early, Troy scored 32 straight points to eventually win 35-21. A matchup between Troy (9-2, 7-0) and App State (8-2, 6-1) would determine the East champion, but App took it in a defensive slugfest 21-10. Troy got a 42-32 win over MAC East champion Buffalo in the bowl to finish with 10 wins for the 3rd straight year. A whopping 14 out of 22 starters on offense/defense were 1st/2nd/3rd Team All-Sun Belt, including 4 out of 5 offensive linemen and all 4 DBs. Arguably the greatest return man in college football history, Marcus Jones, was on Troy from 2017-18 before transferring to Houston. He had 3 kick returns for TD in 2017 and 1 in 2018. Neal Brown left for West Virginia after the season, having been one of the hottest coaching names in the last two offseasons.
3. 2016 (10-3 overall, 6-2 Sun Belt) Neal Brown’s first double digit win season. Back then they were led by junior QB Brandon Silvers in his 3rd year as a starter. Silvers was 1st Team All-Sun Belt, throwing for 3180 yards 23 TD 12 INT, part of his 10,677 yards 71 TD 29 INT career. Troy gave 2016 National Champion Clemson one of their toughest tests all year, losing 24-30 in Death Valley. Clemson only outgained Troy 414-386 in yardage, and Deshaun Watson threw 2 picks. After starting 8-1 with the only loss to Clemson, Troy earned a #25 ranking, only to immediately be blown out 35-3 by 5-4 Arkansas State, who was now 5-0 in the Sun Belt and controlled their destiny. After Arkansas State dropped a game late in the year, Troy had a chance to win a Sun Belt co-championship, but fell 24-28 to 4-7 Georgia Southern in the final week to finish 9-3 overall, 6-2 in the conference, and 3rd in the Sun Belt. Hey, at least they won the “Dollar General Bowl” against Ohio. DE Rashad Dillard was the Sun Belt DPOTY with 6.5 sacks, 6.5 TFL, and 2 FF. The best was yet to come for Troy.
2. 2017 (11-2 overall, 7-1 Sun Belt) You’ve seen this Troy team before. Do you remember them?
You probably will once I mention it: They beat Ed Orgeron’s LSU. It was week 5, LSU was #25 and 3-1, Troy was 3-1, it was LSU’s homecoming game, and LSU had won 49 straight non-conference home games. 50 minutes of game clock later, and Troy had a 24-7 lead. A garbage time TD from LSU made it look close in a 24-21 Troy win, and it was the biggest win in school history. A lot of LSU fans wanted Orgeron fired after the game, but this wasn’t a bad LSU team, it was just a really good Troy team. LSU immediately beat #21 Florida and #10 Auburn in their next 2 games! On the other side, Troy unfortunately lost a trap game 8-19 to South Alabama. They quickly regrouped and were perfect the rest of the way, winning a Sun Belt co-championship with Appalachian State, who they didn’t play. It was even sweeter because the Trojans got revenge on Arkansas State for last year’s 35-3 blowout. In the last week of the season, down 24-25 with 15 seconds to go, senior QB Silvers threw the winning TD pass to walk out with the win and the Sun Belt title. An offensive explosion 50-30 win over North Texas in the bowl was an excellent way to end Silvers’ career, who threw 4 TD and ran for 1 more in the game. The win over LSU still stands as probably Troy’s biggest all-time win, and this team finished #21 in my rankings.
1. 2022 (12-2 overall, 7-1 Sun Belt) The days of Neal Brown were long gone by this point. Troy had fallen back into mediocrity, going just 15-20 from 2019-21. Chip Lindsey was fired, and new head coach Jon Sumrall came in for the 2022 season from Kentucky’s defensive coordinator position, many Kentucky fans singing his praises. The season went way better than anyone expected, mostly thanks to defensive improvements (26.1 PPG allowed in ‘21 to 17.1 PPG allowed in ‘22). Nobody was getting in Troy’s way in 2022. After a 1-2 start, they started their march. Wins over (final record) 9-4 Marshall, 9-5 Western Kentucky, 10-3 South Alabama, 9-4 Coastal Carolina in the conference title game, and 11-3 UTSA in the bowl game. The only losses came at the beginning of the year to #21 Ole Miss, and 28-32 to Appalachian State on a hail mary. 4 players on defense were 1st Team All-Sun Belt, including the 5’9 210 lb LB Carlton Martial. Martial finished his career as the NCAA’s all time leading tackler!! He had 578 tackles over 5 seasons, totalling 76, 127, 114, 126, and 135 from 2018-22 respectively, and won Sun Belt DPOTY in 2022. Jon Sumrall was the Sun Belt COTY. Troy finished 15th in my rankings due to the amount of quality wins they racked up, and the losses being excusable.
5th Quarter
Do you remember that 2017 win against Orgeron’s LSU? Did you know Troy was a good team at that time, or were you more focused on LSU’s embarrassment? What do you think about Jon Sumrall, Neal Brown, and Larry Blakeney? And finally, is there a season or player that sticks out to you from Troy’s 23 years in the FBS?

2023.05.25 02:42 TeeNotFound6240 macOS issue
Hi all, I have a 2015 MacBook Pro. I installed the latest macOS Monterey version available at this time. I recently enabled FileVault. After a few days, I decided to turn off FileVault. While it was in the decryption process (about 90% complete), I got the screen saying "your computer shut down because it ran into a problem."
At first, I thought the SSD died, but after booting into safe mode, I was able to login, but breifely before the same issue occured.
Is there any fix? For me, factory reset is an option, as I use my Mac as a secondary device. Thanks!
UPDATE I've now isolated the issue and it seems to usually occurs when the MagSafe power adapter is attached. Works perfectly fine. Any fixes?

2023.05.22 20:22 jimbobbypaul Ranking the Top 131 FBS Programs of the Last 40 Years: 95. Army
Main hub thread with the full 131 rankings Thank you for your service, Army football team. Purveyors of the triple option, Army has had some really good years with it, and some really bad years without it. Case in point, if you’re a service academy with strict weight and fitness requirements for your students, you should probably run an offense like the triple option to give yourself an advantage over bigger opponents. Gimmicky offenses aside, Army has a proud football history with a 721-539-51 all time record, 37 Consensus All-Americans, 3 Heisman winners, 3 national titles, and 1 world championship in September 1945.

- 0 consensus All-Americans
- 2 NFL players drafted
Army’s the lowest ranked of the service academies, with Air Force and Navy ahead. Just 2 NFL players drafted isn’t all that surprising, but many thought it’d be 3 with 6’7 LB Andre Carter II getting 1st round NFL buzz before the 2022 season. Carter went undrafted, and signed with the Minnesota Vikings, who are getting a steal of a player. Army has 8 seasons finishing ranked in my top 40, which is the most of any program so far.
Top 5 Seasons
Worst Season: 2003 (0-13 overall, 0-8 Conference USA) The rare 0-13 season, where you go 0-12 and lose your bowl game. Kidding, they played an away game at Hawaii. This is the 4th worst team since 1983! Why? I’m not quite sure myself. They were bad, averaging 15.8 PPG and giving up 36.6 PPG, but didn’t play a very easy schedule. 8 of their 13 opponents finished with a winning record, and 4 more finished 5-7. A 32-38 loss to 1-11 East Carolina really hurt. QB Zac Dahman completed 53% of throws for 2234 yards and 11 TD to 19 INT. Dahman, who was in his sophomore season at the time, would go on to become Army’s all-time leading passer with 6904 yards, but with 36 TD to 48 INT. The team averaged just 2.0 YPC, last in the nation, as starting RB Carlton Jones amassed 632 rushing yards and 6 TD on 3.3 YPC.
5. 1984 (8-3-1 overall, Independent) Led by College Football HOF coach Jim Young, 1984 was a season to remember for Army. After an opening win over Colgate, Army traveled to Neyland Stadium, playing Tennessee to a 24-24 draw. Fast forward a few weeks later, 4-2-1 Army trumped 4-2 Air Force 24-12 to take the lead in the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy. Next week, Army traveled to Chestnut Hill and played Boston College to a 31-45 loss in Doug Flutie’s last home game. Army then traveled to Japan(!) to play in the annual Mirage Bowl, beating Montana 45-31, whose QB was Marty Mornhinweg, future coach of the Detroit Lions (2001-02). Army flew back to the U.S. and after a week’s rest, played the Army-Navy game, winning 28-11 in front of 73,000 and claiming the season’s Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy. Finally, Army accepted a bowl invite for the first time in the program’s history, and beat Michigan State 10-6 in front of 70,000 fans in the Pontiac Silverdome. Even despite winning national titles in the past, this is considered one of the greatest Army teams of all time.
4. 2021 (9-4 overall, Independent) Let Jeff Monken cook. They started 4-0 with wins over 8-5 Georgia State, 9-5 Western Kentucky, and 7-6 Miami (OH). After a loss to 6-7 Ball State, they gave Wisconsin a scare in a 14-20 loss, and the same the next week in a 56-70 barnburner to #16 Wake Forest. Thanks to a surprisingly effective passing attack, Army threw for 214 yards while rushing for just 102 in a 21-14 OT win over Air Force, who finished the year 10-3. 3 weeks later, Army was victorious 31-16 over 8-5 Liberty, and was building a damn good resume. They’d lose the 122nd Army-Navy game in an upset, 13-17, but rebounded to beat Missouri in the bowl 24-22. Overall, Army finished #35 in my rankings, which is impressive for a 9-4 G5 team. They beat 5 teams with winning records, and nearly beat 9-4 Wisconsin and 11-3 Wake Forest. QB Christian Anderson played the most, throwing for 713 yards 5 TD 0 INT while rushing for 619 yards 8 TD on 5.7 YPC. Backup QB Jabari Laws was the more effective passer, completing 19-24 for 306 yards, 4 TD 0 INT, which sounds like an extremely good single game. 6’7 LB Andre Carter II was one of the best pass rushers in the country, ranking 2nd in the nation with 14.5 sacks.
3. 2017 (10-3 overall, Independent) 2017 Army took the option to the extreme, ranking last in the nation with just 27.8 pass YPG and leading the nation with 362.3 rush YPG. This was thanks to QB Ahmad Bradshaw, who might’ve been the best QB of the Monken era so far, or at least the best rushing QB. Bradshaw completed just 14-43 passes for 285 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT, but was 5th in the nation in rushing yards with 1746 and 14 TD on a whopping 7.2 YPC. Coming off an 8-5 season, 2-0 Army headed to #8 Ohio State to test their mettle. It was a 7-38 loss, but the rushing attack was solid, going for 259 yards on 4.5 YPC. After a last-minute loss to Tulane, Army went on a win streak, taking out (eventual 7-6) Temple 31-28 in OT, rival Air Force 21-0, and even Daniel Jones and Duke 21-16. 8-2 Army lost to 7-3 North Texas in an exciting clash of styles, rushing vs passing. Army ran for 534 yards and 7(!) rushing TD with just 27 passing yards. North Texas QB Mason Fine threw for 386 yards 4 TD to just 1 INT and UNT walked off on a 39 yard field goal for the 52-49 win. The 118th Army-Navy game was played in a snowstorm, and Navy lined up for a 48 yard FG for the win with 3 seconds left…just wide left! Army defeats Navy 14-13! The two teams combined for just 3 passes compared to 95 rushes. In the bowl against 10-2 San Diego State, Army was down 35-28 with just 20 seconds left. Darnell Woolfolk runs it in for the 1 yard TD, we’re going to overtime! Hold your horses, Army’s going for 2. They run a pitch play to the right, and Kell Walker runs it in for the lead. San Diego State tries to score on the final play with laterals, but Army returns it back for a TD to win 42-35 and end the season 10-3.
2. 1996 (10-2 overall, Independent) It was a season that started rather innocuously. 37-20 over Ohio, 35-17 over Duke, neither was that impressive, both teams weren’t expected to be any good. Wins over 2nd year FBS team North Texas and FCS Yale weren’t anything to write home about either, but Army was 4-0. They beat Rutgers 42-21 the next week, and suddenly they were 5-0 with all wins by 17+ points. How long could they keep it up? 34-10 over 2-3 Tulane, 27-7 over 4-4 Miami (OH), 41-21 over Lafayette…Army was 8-0. Their best start to a season since 1950. 5-3 Air Force was no match for Army’s boa-constrictor style of bleeding out games, with the Knights winning 23-7. To the preseason prediction of nobody, #22 9-0 Army was headed to #19 Syracuse. Cuse QB Donovan McNabb had himself a day, and the Orange won 42-17. A 28-24 win over Navy ended the regular season at 10-1 for Army. At #24, they played 7-4 Auburn in the Independence Bowl. Down 21-32 with 3:37 to go, Army drove 70 yards to make it 29-32 with 1:30 left. They recovered the onside kick! Immediately they got down inside the Auburn 20, but instead of going for the win, they decided to kick a 27 yard FG on 3rd and 6…and it was wide right. Army fell to 10-2 on the season, but with a #25 overall finish. QB Ronnie McAda was 1 of 2 Army players since 1969 to be drafted, in the 7th round by the Green Bay Packers.
1. 2018 (11-2 overall, Independent) This was a truly impressive Army team. They played Daniel Jones and Duke, who’d finish 8-5, tough in the opener, but penalties and fumbles did them in for a 14-34 loss. After beating Liberty and Hawaii, who finished 6-6 and 8-6 respectively,
Army played Kyler Murray and #5 Oklahoma to a 21-28 OT loss in Norman. Murray had no problem moving the ball, but Army executed a masterful gameplan of controlling time of possession, holding the ball for 45 minutes compared to OU’s 15. After the 2-2 start to the season, Army was flawless the rest of the way. A 42-13 win over 4-0 Buffalo, and 52-3 over San Jose State came next. Wins the rest of the regular season included 17-14 over Air Force and 17-10 over Navy.
#22 Army played 8-4 Houston in the Armed Forces Bowl, and played flawlessly, averaging nearly 10 yards per carry in a 70-14 win. The offense throughout the year was good as usual, averaging 32.8 PPG with great seasons from QB Kelvin Hopkins Jr and RB Darnell Woolfolk. The defense was the real star of the season though, ranking 10th in the nation with just 17.7 PPG allowed. 3 defensive players went on to play in the NFL, which is 3 more than you’d expect from Army. LB Jon Rhattigan has 10 tackles for the Seattle Seahawks, LB Cole Christiansen just won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs, and SS Elijah Riley has 50 tackles for the Eagles/Jets/Steelers. 2018 and 1996 are the only 2 Army teams since 1958 to finish the season in the AP Top 25.
5th Quarter
Are you a fan of the option? What’s your favorite Army moment or game? Think the #95 ranking is fair?

2023.05.12 22:16 Wayne_the_philosophr I think I fell victim to a Romance scammer that I met on Reddit
I am a young man and have fallen victim into a romance scam. I met the "girl" on reddit back in Aug. of 2022 and at first it was pretty fucking chill. I thought it was a real person because the first few pictures I got from her seemed like they were taken from a normal human being instead of an ig model with hundreds and thousands of followers. Sometimes she would do selfies with bad angles and even when she posed, her background was a bit disorganized. Even her ceiling looked like shit. So I thought I was safe. Few months later, she started asking for money and when it came to December she claimed to have traveled to Spain to visit her family (but she would never be able to go "back" to Ohio). During Xmas, she sent me 2 presents that I chose for myself(which I fucking loved) and I asked her what she liked. I wasn't quite confident in sending a package overseas as I've never done it but she preferred that I should gave her money, so I did. At this point I already gave her $250+ plus already since Novemeber when she first started asking for money. Then after Xmas and at the start of 2023, that cycle kept coming. The cycle of her almost asking for money every week. She claimed to go to college and had a job as a chef "back" in Ohio but when she was in Spain, she also said that there was no way for her to receive her money from her "company". So essentially she was "broke". Almost every week she would tell me different reasons each time she was needing money, from her being sick, her period, food & drinks, her dog needing something to eat, hospital bills cuz she "passed out". At her "birthday" or holidays, she always preferred me giving her money. Everytime she would always make me cash app these people that I don't know claiming that I should trust her and that she knew them. I know what you're thinking, Why is this guy trusting this bitch? Tbh I have no clue myself. I was an extremely lonely guy with no friends, no close bonds with family, and had never had a relationship. I still am that guy. I never received any "I love you's" any "good mornings" , "love of my life", "sexy", "handsome". Whatever u can think of. I never had that. In exchange for money I got that love and affection and her pics. I was always begging for a voice or videochat but she always made a reason not to. When I finally successfully did a voice chat, she ended the call after a few minutes claiming "bad connection". Second time, it was 20+ minutes, she sounded a bit African.............so I said "do a peace sign" or "speak spanish" or that crap. She refused. This was all happening from January to April. We had fights almost every week and she received money almost every week. Another thing that made me stay besides the "love" and "affection" was that when her company would send money to my bank in the thousands, I would get a portion of that money in the hundreds. Yes! I gave her my login info in my old bank which is now blocked and credit was taken away from it from a bank called "Sutton bank". Now I have $8000 debt in there. Made another account with another bank, same thing happened, it got blocked. She always promised that me and her would get so much money through crypto and all. She also made me do the usual "buy me a gift card" thing from a Capital one credit card that she made under my name from time to time. After all these Shenanigans, I asked a few days ago if she really loved me she would do a videochat with me or else i would break up with her. She agreed but then when I saw her face I was in shock. Her face was contorting like goo, it looked like a mask of cgi, her lips didn't move but once. So I claimed it a deepfake. She ended the call quickly claiming "bad connection" and after that my whole world just came crashing down. I wrote a whole message to her "exposing" her. Got so angry and told her and all the scammers they can put a gun in their mouth and so much more and blocked her. After all this, for some reason, a small part of me still believed it was a real girl and theres a guilt to it too like what if I really told this real girl to kill herself. Add that to the fact that I lost almost $8k in debt, $2k or $3k from my pocket ($10k or more lost or used), 2 bank accounts lost, $500 Capital one debt, felt betrayed, heartbroken, depressed, stupid, angry, lonely, etc. I really thought someone loved me. I really thought all that love and affection meant something. Even now I still feel like I might be wrong. It sucks! Sorry for the rant

2023.05.01 20:17 danielavilared NY Knicks legend Ken Browne tallied a ludicrous 69,094 points and just short of 30k rebounds across a 30 year career. Has anyone seen a player record more?
Drafted 1960. Retired 1990. 922.8 EWA - 737.0 WS - 2,237 games played. Aside everything, particularly impressive to average over 30 a game for 30 seasons. 12 rings to his name to go with 13 FMVPs, 18 MVPs, 15 AS MVPs, and 9 DPOYS.
