2023.06.05 11:40 Playful-Ad6177 Not getting the concept of COUNT with GROUP BY?

This is not my job, neither my hw. I'm just self-learnin from Prof. Donatus course on udemy and these are the problems he used in his course.
Objective 1: Your logistics manager wants to know the number of times each ship region appears in the company database. Use SQL query to get the details.
Objective 2: Using the shipregion column, count how many times each value has appeared in the column.
The database: Northwind
The table: orders

Solution of 1: SELECT ShipRegion, COUNT(ShipRegion) FROM orders GROUP BY ShipRegion;
Solution of 2: SELECT ShipRegion, COUNT(*) FROM orders GROUP BY ShipRegion;
I understand the first solution but not the second solution.
My confusion: How does doing COUNT(*) makes sure to count all shipregions only? Is it because group by shipregion is used?
If that's the case, in above solution, we are also usingg COUNT(shipregion). I don't understand. Please help.

2023.06.05 11:38 Altair-Dragon Religion vs Art: the latest round

Hello y'all, ya boi is back with another fun drama.
Last time I presented y'all some juicy drama about my favourite hobby: martial arts and fighting (and the lack of knowledge about that the brings so much funny drama).
Today instead I present you some rather interesting and absurd drama coming straight up from a place that would taste the faith in humanity and God of even even the firmest saint and anchorite: Christianity.
So let's start with a lil' introduction then we'll go to have fun with the drama!
So, we all know that religions and art have always had a bivalent relationship of love and hate: religion can be a great source of inspiration and a terrible detroyer of art, many masterpieces were created thanks to various religions and as many were destroyed by the same. We have the Sistine Chapel thanks to a pope that commissioned it while another pope had all the dicks cut off the statues in the Vatican and this is just one of the many ambivalent examples.
I could go on for hours with examples about all of this but that's not the point.
I said all of this as an introduction to present you the latest round of this strange relationship brought to us in form of glorious drama by our beloved subject that got presented here again and again: Christianity.
Let's star then!
Here is the whole post that became the fuse of the drama:
https://www.reddit.com/Christianity/comments/140whn8/what_kind_of_statue_is_this/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
It's a simple question about "The Resurrection" of Pericle Fazzini, wich as you can see it's a rather particular representation of Jesus resurrected from a nuclear crater.
Onto the comments then:
Straight off the bat drama starts in the first thread where OOP recives a normal answer but from there things get out of hand with a question that I never thought I'd say in my life: is that Jesus or a damn dragon? A loooooooooong discussion ensue about this.
https://www.reddit.com/Christianity/comments/140whn8/what_kind_of_statue_is_this/jmxjy0r?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
As a bonus I'll also add another fun answer to this thread:
https://www.reddit.com/Christianity/comments/140whn8/what_kind_of_statue_is_this/jmyls4h?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Another person answers again but they add that this is "rotten art" that should be "melted down" though.
https://www.reddit.com/Christianity/comments/140whn8/what_kind_of_statue_is_this/jmxunis?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Right after it's again the turn of the confused-dragon-guy that decided he didn't had enough drama for today. To fix that they made their own thread to have plenty of people to argue with.
https://www.reddit.com/Christianity/comments/140whn8/what_kind_of_statue_is_this/jmxja4t?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Another person starts their own thread about how they interpretate the statue: what if instead of Jesus resurrecting after a nuclear explosion the real meaning is about Satan killing Jesus and dragging Him to Hell? Fortunately or unfortunately this won't be the last Satanist conspiracy thread here.
https://www.reddit.com/Christianity/comments/140whn8/what_kind_of_statue_is_this/jmxnfyx?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
In fact here we go with the second Satanist conspiracy thread, honestly it's just so much that I dunno how ro describe this, just read it yourselves and try to make sense from it if you manage 'cause I didn't.
https://www.reddit.com/Christianity/comments/140whn8/what_kind_of_statue_is_this/jmybppq?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Now for the next thread: this time the creator hates both the Church and any art representation of God and they are ready to die on that hill against all of that.
https://www.reddit.com/Christianity/comments/140whn8/what_kind_of_statue_is_this/jmxnu9k?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Were you hoping that the Satanic conspiracy threads were done? Or did you want more? Anyway, we close in style this post with the third one and honestly after reading it my reaction was the same of that only other user that answered that thread.
https://www.reddit.com/Christianity/comments/140whn8/what_kind_of_statue_is_this/jmxnu9k?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Here are some bonuses before finishing:
Now, what does this statue makes you wonder? Maybe we'll never know.
https://www.reddit.com/Christianity/comments/140whn8/what_kind_of_statue_is_this/jmxm5jd?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Was the sculpute high on acid the whole time while they made this?
https://www.reddit.com/Christianity/comments/140whn8/what_kind_of_statue_is_this/jmy7fy0?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
As a last random bonus: a whole thread removed and deleted, we can just speculate about wich sacred mysteries the discussed before being taken out by some Church sniper.
https://www.reddit.com/Christianity/comments/140whn8/what_kind_of_statue_is_this/jmxj4j6?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

2023.06.05 11:38 Trick-Echidna-4397 Welp I’m not sure what to do (3DS repair)

My New Nintendo 3DS XL had been having this problem where when powered on, neither of the screens come on but the blue light does. I heard that it’s an easy fix and all you have to do is unplug and reconnect this lil connector on the motherboard, easy as cake and it fixed it temporarily.
That was until it did it again, and when I tried fixing it, accidentally put back one of the screws in the wrong hole, scratching and damaging a tiny round gold thing on the motherboard. The system now randomly freezes and I have to force shut it down. I’m at a loss because the nintendo repair is $85 plus shipping minimum, and that is just for one or the other issue. Kinda debating just buying a new 3DS (but I’m on a budget). Does anyone have any advice on what I should do?

2023.06.05 11:38 Daniel_Young2019 TEYU Chiller’s Thoughts on the Current Laser Development

TEYU Chiller’s Thoughts on the Current Laser Development
The Never-ending Price War
Before 2010, laser equipment was expensive, from laser marking machines to cutting machines, welding machines, and cleaning machines. The price war has been ongoing. Just when you think you've made a price concession, there's always a competitor offering a lower price. Nowadays, there are laser products with a profit margin of only a few hundred yuan, even for selling marking machines worth tens of thousands of yuan. Some laser products have reached the lowest possible price, but the competition in the industry seems to be increasing rather than decreasing.
Fiber lasers with a power of ten kilowatts were worth 2 million yuan 5 to 6 years ago, but now they have dropped by nearly 90%. The money that used to buy a 10-kilowatt laser cutting machine can now buy a 40-kilowatt machine with money to spare. The industrial laser industry has fallen into the "Moore's Law" trap. Although it seems like technology is advancing rapidly, many companies in this industry are feeling the pressure. The price war looms over many laser companies.
Chinese Laser Products Are Popular Overseas
The intense price war and the three-year pandemic have unexpectedly opened up opportunities for some Chinese companies in foreign trade. Compared to regions like Europe, America, and Japan where laser technology is mature, China's progress in laser products has been relatively slower. However, there are still many developing economies around the world, such as Brazil, Mexico, Turkey, Russia, India, and Southeast Asia, which have decent manufacturing industries but have yet to fully adopt industrial laser equipment and applications. This is where Chinese companies have found opportunities. Compared to the high-priced laser machine tools in Europe and America, Chinese equipment of the same type is cost-effective and highly welcomed in these countries and regions. Correspondingly, the TEYU S&A laser chillers are also selling well in these countries and regions.
Laser Technology is Facing a Bottleneck
One criterion for assessing whether an industry still has full vitality is to observe if there are continuous new technologies emerging in that industry. The electric vehicle battery industry has been in the spotlight in recent years, not only because of its large market capacity and extensive industrial chain but also due to the constant emergence of new technologies, such as lithium iron phosphate batteries, ternary batteries, and blade batteries, each with different technological routes and battery structures.
Although industrial lasers seem to have new technologies every year, with power levels increasing by 10,000 watts annually and the emergence of 300-watt infrared picosecond lasers, there may be future developments like 1,000-watt picosecond lasers and femtosecond lasers, as well as ultraviolet picosecond and femtosecond lasers. However, when we look at it overall, these advancements only represent incremental steps on the existing technological path, and we haven't seen the emergence of truly new technologies. Since fiber lasers brought revolutionary changes to industrial lasers, there have been few disruptive new technologies.
So, What Will the Next Generation of Lasers Be?
Currently, companies like TRUMPF dominate the field of disc lasers, and they have even introduced carbon monoxide lasers while maintaining a leading position in extreme ultraviolet lasers used in advanced lithography machines. However, most laser companies are facing significant obstacles and bottlenecks in promoting the emergence and development of new laser technologies, which forces them to focus on the continuous refinement of existing mature technologies and products.
Increasingly Hard to Replace Traditional Methods
The price war has led to a wave of technological iteration in laser equipment, and lasers have penetrated many industries, gradually phasing out older machines used in traditional processes. Nowadays, whether in light industries or heavy industries, many sectors have more or less adopted laser production lines, making it increasingly challenging to achieve further penetration. The capabilities of lasers are currently limited to material cutting, welding, and marking, while processes such as bending, stamping, complex structures, and overlapping assembly in industrial manufacturing have no direct connection to lasers.
Currently, some users are replacing low-power laser equipment with higher-power laser equipment, which is considered an internal iteration within the laser product range. Laser precision processing, which has gained popularity, is often confined to a few industries such as smartphones and display panels. In the recent 2 to 3 years, there has been some equipment demand driven by industries like electric vehicle batteries, agricultural machinery, and heavy industries. However, the scope for new application breakthroughs is still limited.
In terms of successful exploration of new products and applications, handheld laser welding has shown promise. With lower prices, tens of thousands of units are shipped each year, making it far more effective than arc welding. However, it should be noted that laser cleaning, which was popular a few years ago, did not see widespread adoption as dry ice cleaning, which costs only a few thousand yuan, eliminated the cost advantage of lasers. Similarly, plastic laser welding, which received much attention for a while, faced competition from ultrasound welding machines that cost a few thousand yuan but were functioning well despite their noise levels, hindering the development for plastic laser welding machines. While laser equipment can indeed replace many traditional processing methods, for various reasons, the possibility of substitution is becoming increasingly challenging.

2023.06.05 11:36 eieireddit Happiness Advice from a positive psychologist, The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor

Here are what I learned from a book called "The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work" by Shawn Achor.
- When we are positive, we make a success like doing well on an exam.
- Shawn’s to-do list for us
- Meditate: “Neuroscientists have found that monks who spend years meditating actually grow their left prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain most responsible for feeling happy.”
- Find Something to Look Forward To: “One study found that people who just thought about watching their favorite movie actually raised their endorphin levels by 27 percent.”
- Commit Conscious Acts of Kindness: A long line of empirical research, including one study of over 2,000 people, has shown that acts of altruism—giving to friends and strangers alike—decrease stress and strongly contribute to enhanced mental health.
- Making time to go outside on a nice day: “One study found that spending 20 minutes outside in good weather not only boosted positive mood but broadened thinking and improved working memory.”
- Try watching less TV: “Studies have shown that the less negative TV we watch, specifically violent media, the happier we are.”
- For those who worry about not knowing life’s risks: “Psychologists have found that people who watch less TV are actually more accurate judges of life’s risks and rewards than those who subject themselves to the tales of crime, tragedy, and death that appear night after night on the ten o’clock news.”
- Move: “Three groups of depressed patients were assigned to different coping strategies—one group took antidepressant medication, one group exercised for 45 minutes three times a week, and one group did a combination of both.33 After four months, all three groups experienced similar improvements in happiness. The very fact that exercise proved just as helpful as anti-depressants is remarkable, but the story doesn’t end here. The groups were then tested six months later to assess their relapse rate. Of those who had taken the medication alone, 38 percent had slipped back into depression. Those in the combination group were doing only slightly better, with a 31 percent relapse rate. The biggest shock, though, came from the exercise group: Their relapse rate was only 9 percent! In short, physical activity is not just an incredibly powerful mood lifter, but a long-lasting one. Walk, bike, run, play, stretch, jump rope, pogo stick—it doesn’t matter as long as you get moving.”
- Spend Money (but Not on Stuff): “Spending money on other people, called “prosocial spending,” also boosts happiness.”
- Use a Signature Strength: “When 577 volunteers were encouraged to pick one of their signature strengths and use it in a new way each day for a week, they became significantly happier and less depressed than control groups.”
- Where to find the Signature Strength: https://www.authentichappiness.sas.upenn.edu/
- Align our tasks with our personal vision to see work as a calling.
- What is the purpose of this task?
- What will it accomplish?
- What does this result lead to?
- Believe in others’ potential: the Pygmalion Effect: when our belief in another person’s potential brings that potential to life.
- Be optimistic: “Studies have shown that optimists set more goals (and more difficult goals) than pessimists, and put more effort into attaining those goals, stay more engaged in the face of difficulty, and rise above obstacles more easily.12 Optimists also cope better in high-stress situations and are better able to maintain high levels of well-being during times of hardship.”
- Believe that you are a lucky person: “A researcher asked volunteers to read through a newspaper and count how many photos were in it. The people who claimed to be lucky took mere seconds to accomplish this task, while the unlucky ones took an average of two minutes.”
- Write down three good things each day: “One study found that participants who wrote down three good things each day for a week were happier and less depressed at the one-month, three-month, and six-month follow-ups.”
- Make mistakes to grow more!: “The earlier we face difficulties and drawbacks, the better prepared we are to deal with the inevitable obstacles along our path”
- Explain your past events positively: “People with an optimistic explanatory style interpret adversity as being local and temporary (i.e., “It’s not that bad, and it will get better.”). They automatically imagine alternative scenarios that make them feel fortunate, interpret setbacks as short-lived and small in scope, and see inherent opportunity where others only see foreboding while those with a pessimistic explanatory style see these events as more global and permanent (i.e., “It’s really bad, and it’s never going to change.”) In the world of sports, studies of athletes ranging from collegiate swimmers to professional baseball players show that explanatory style predicts athletic performance.”
- Set reasonable expectations for yourself and make small success:
- Harvard Business School professor Peter Bregman “Don’t write a book, write a page.… Don’t expect to be a great manager in your first six months, just try to set expectations well.”
- “Small successes can add up to major achievements.”
- Make good habits: “Habits are like financial capital—forming one today is an investment that will automatically give out returns for years to come.”
- Passive leisure, like watching TV and trolling around on Facebook, might be easier and more convenient but doesn’t provide the same rewards as Active leisure like hobbies, games, and sports. Studies have found that American teenagers are two and half times more likely to experience elevated enjoyment when engaged in a hobby than when watching TV, and three times more likely when playing a sport.
- 20-Second Rule: Preparation for a good habit should be 20 seconds to lower resistance.
- Form good relationships: “Researchers have found that social support has as much effect on life expectancy as smoking, high blood pressure, obesity, and regular physical activity.” “Studies have found that people with strong relationships are less likely to perceive situations as stressful in the first place.”
- Our external circumstances predict only about a percent of our total happiness. It means whatever your job is, you can be happy.
- Belief shapes our perception: “One study found that two people can look at the same picture of a friend and see two completely different expressions on that friend’s face.”
- Don’t worry!: “After an initial adjustment and period of hardship, most victims of paralysis bounce back to just about the same level of happiness they experienced before.”
- “Online advertisers now conduct market research with sophisticated eye-tracking machines, determined to develop the perfect place for a banner ad on a website.”
Let's discuss it!

I was wondering Does anyone feel like they are in a position where it's like speaking a second language sometimes because you can't understand what the speaker is saying because your hearing aids aren't as advanced as a human ear, isolating you from the conversation?
It's really lonely sometimes..especially in a large crowd... I'm hoping someone out there has a familiar experience..if they'd be open to giving suggestions on what they do in those situations?

hi i’m new here. i’m feeling really guilty for joining because i know i won’t actually do anything to get away from him. i just can’t do it idk why. but i know it’s wrong what he does. i guess i’m just looking for reassurance that i’m not alone right now. i have a new black eye, among other bruises on my face but how is he sleeping so peacefully next to me while i’m crying my eyes out? i feel so alone and so trapped. i have no where to go if i leave. i don’t have a car (he sold it), much money, and i don’t have any family here and no friends of course. i feel lost. i’ve been fighting back urges to finally do something to myself tonight but reading everyone’s progress stories is really giving me hope and helping me restrain myself. i hope to be where you are in life someday. i love you guys

2023.06.05 11:30 psm199345 Inclusivity/disability issues in my role

I'm a policy civil servant, and have been in this role for about 2.5 years. In 2021, I was diagnosed with a chronic, very debilitating health condition (which also qualifies as a disability) which led me to taking 7 months off work. I returned next year, after an Occupational Health assessment (and advice from my own doctor) who recommended my employer make reasonable adjustments and allow me to work from home full-time, and slightly later start time (10am instead of 9).
My line manageseniors were supportive for the first 6 months or so, but I'm increasingly finding I'm having to constantly justify why I'm not in the office (the rest of the team/department does 2 days in the office). Going into the office with my condition *physically* isn't possible - it might sound odd but the nature of the condition is such that it would be extremely physically difficult, and cause a flare-up in symptoms (the travel and commute, getting dressed in the morning and leaving immediately all within a set timeframe, the walking around in the office, the general environment not being conducive to managing symptoms). It honestly does feel like asking a wheelchair user to meet you at the top of the stairs (if there's no lift, or ramp). But my employer just doesn't seem to appreciate this. Honestly, it seems like they think I'm just choosing to never come in, as if it now suits me, which isn't true at all, because it sucks - I'm isolated from the rest of the team, don't have access to the same networking opportunities, and generally it's quite lonely. I as a very sociable and high-performing team member before all this. I've gotten to a place where I can manage my symptoms and condition if I'm fairly immobile and can be in my own environment to manage symptoms if and when they arise, but leaving the house to travel into work just isn't feasible at the moment. I honestly cannot overstate the level of disability my condition causes, and it's incredibly isolating.
Some of the comments I've had is:
"Are you sure you're not able to come in?" (frequently asked)
"Well, in the office it's easier to work together so maybe that's why it's not been as easy for you" (in response to a question about working with the team more effectively)
"The virtual option for X event is only for exceptions - you should really try to come in" (even though I've not been in the office for ages)
...and generally just a constant questioning of my circumstances and doubt as to what I'm going through. It's been quite disappointing as in the Department there's always been an emphasis on disability inclusion and support, and being active about being inclusive, but it's not been my experience at all. I'm able to do my job pretty effectively from home, but I've started to just feel very disengaged/saddened, stressed by this apparent lack of understanding, and I'm not sure what to do. Not looking for sympathy as such, maybe just advice? Maybe I could speak to HR? I really don't want to cause any further issues with my team, but at the same time, given the OH recommendations and my own doctor's note on my file, I don't feel like I should need to keep explaining myself. I have a disability and it really does feel like wilful ignorance at this point.
Thanks in advance, and apologies for the long post.

2023.06.05 11:25 Akiriwe I am sad Cindy is back. And this is not because I hate her

I don't like the kind of relationship which formed between her and the audience. It's the same toxic, unhealthy dynamic, making everyone (her included) sick.
We are too invested in the drama which does not belong to us. I don't know about the rest, but I feel like this parasocial relationship just makes me worried for a person who I have never seen. Who I can't help. Who won't ever probably listen or value my input anyway.
I don't like the feeling it might hurt her (and probably us) even more. By many means.
One of us supports Cindy no matter what and just positively tells "It's ok it's fine don't worry you alright", enabling the unhealthy stuff she does and making it even harder for her to make the change to avoid it in the future. I don't know for which reasons - more drama? More entertainment? Trying to be overly positive whatever it takes despite harming it produces? Trying to be "that loyal, good sub who does not tell shit"?
One of us just cheers up - FINALLY UPDATES - and spreads news, and gossips around, collectively judging whatever happened. This I believe is a kind of Zachary Michael move, I would say (it's not like I am his hater, but I feel like he kind of encourages this "let's talk about the tea" thing). I even noticed a bunch of comments here saying "Oh I am so thrilled for the tea to spill, to hear the news". Like wtf, this is a real person whose life is getting destroyed on camera, that's not a fucking Santa Barbara, it's not a fictional character. I know she publishes it for money, but it does not mean it's good or healthy. This should not be cheered, this should not be supported.
One of us criticizes her, thinking it's for the better, actively talking to her about what to do, how to behave, and screaming I-TOLD-YOU-SO kind of thing. I know, guys, I know that many of us have foreseen the last part, but it's so easy to behold it from the side when you are not the one participating when you are not the one being under emotions and trying to glue up broken marriage of 15 years which you used to be heavily dependant on. Besides, I know you might want the best, but in reality, we may be horribly wrong ourselves.
One of us hates whatever she does, and is going to haunt even things which are crazy to call out for - looks, singing, for instance. There are some valid reasons to criticize her, and she needs to be called out for that to at least give her the ability to acknowledge something was not right and to be educated for the future, but I don't think people mocking her for weird phrasing or singing or looks is what valid criticism is.
One of us feels entitled to know all the dirty laundry, "Andrew's point of view", "the whole picture with comments of everybody involved", and her regularly reporting that she is alive and well. Again, it's not Santa Barbara, and it's not like we paid on Kickstarter for her to shoot three seasons of soap TV drama and she posted only the first two before running away with money. And no, to me donations, super chats, and coffees are not these kinds of payments. She didn't promise anything. In fact, I supported her for many years before shutting down payments when I stopped liking what she was up to, and I don't think I was scammed or I need to be refunded - I just supported the person whose already produced content I liked and stopped supporting when I stopped liking it, simple as is. I can agree though that donations to YouTubers and streamers can be problematic since it's not a traditional way of buying the service, their nature is giving away mostly, and I think it's not clear what we do expect when we give content creators our money.
I just wish she would go offline and focus on her personal connections, to the people who could really reach out to her and help. We can't. It's not going to work, it makes things worse for everybody.
Do I hate you guys? Absolutely not, I am not better at all - well, except maybe total haters and "yoo new tea" guys. I am also bound by this unhealthy stuff I wish I could cut off weeks ago, for her and for my own sake.
I wish we could help her, but we cannot. She is a scared, lost person who wants connection and support, and she tries to get it from us, but it's not going to work. There are so many voices among us it's not possible in that state of mind to go through all of them and properly sort out the ones who are genuine and those ones who just want her to hurt. Even genuine ones can hurt - remember that comment about "it's fiiine I am going through 22nd breakup with my husband, 23rd is a charm"? It may be a joke, but it also may not. And believe, there is much more potentially hurtful advice that is better disguised under the support, even if the person is genuine - we are also going through hurtful stuff and may be biased by our experience and may be not the best to ask for advice from.
She does not need a bunch of strangers commenting on her for whatever purpose on YouTube and many other social media. She needs a couple of close friends and therapy. She needs to figure it out herself, without many voices buzzing around. And it's so sad seeing her and us getting back to the starting point of oversharing and showing hurtful things on camera. She is posting again being hurt and enraged and telling and making stuff she will probably regret later. She even rageposted videos times before - she mentioned she does not look at the stuff she edited, and it feels like she was already scared and afraid of the outcome even before publishing the video. And it does not make good for anybody. The internet remembers. Even taking it out won't help
At this point, I wish she would be just offline. Or would post on her blog with text or even video with very limited personal information, maybe with weekly on monthly updates on the most important stuff, with maybe someone besides her to check out what she edited and advise her to take out parts that could make it harmful for her to post. To have someone to physically force her to breathe in, breathe out before making the move, and reconsider the choice to talk or not to talk, to save her reputation, and herself from destruction. The idea of showing BPD day-to-day life without editing sounds good on paper, but in reality, it's just raging out and doing all the unhinged, uncontrolled stuff, which I bet does not help anybody with BPD - as we came up to people talking about her blaming everything on BPD, criticizing what BPD exactly does to people and us being here more for the rollercoaster rather than awareness. There are many channels about mental disorders where people talk out about the stuff happening to them, but in a much more calm and more collected manner, which still gives awareness, but does not hurt anybody.

Well, I probably vented off too much again, sorry for that. I just wanted to rant a little bit about my thoughts on this, as I woke up and was blown away by this sub screaming about her posting again

Production companies : Warner Bros. Pictures.

At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).

“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.)

“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybo****here's also some Easter eggs in there, too.So that's what I meant by the resetting. Maybe resetting' wasn't a good term.only

In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film.

“They kept that all the way under wraps, and I didn't know until maybe a day or two before the premiere,” he recently said Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2022) FULL𝓂𝑜𝓋𝒾𝑒 ONLINE

Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Available On Hulu?Viewers are saying that they want to view the new TV show Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free ****odes of this series streaming at this time. the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Streaming on Disney Plus?

Unfortunately, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest.

While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release.

The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).

As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Black Panther opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Black Panther films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, though Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will overtake it any day now.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grossers and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. The domestic cume is $56.5 million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and $40.8 million cume., in fact )

I see the Tamil numerals wiki, but it doesn't explain how to construct numbers beyond the nice clean cut powers of 10. Do you just do it like in English, and add the appropriate smaller numbers to the right where necessary?
How does it work exactly? How about 12321232123?
I am working on writing an automated converter from English to other languages, and not sure how Tamil works exactly.

2023.06.05 11:23 maximusaemilius Humans are stupid ft. a jetpack

The No 1 truth about humans: They are stupid.
Krill was waiting in the docking bay, watching as his new medical equipment was wheeled up the ramp. Sunny stood next to him, holding a data pad and checking off the shipping manifest as it was wheeled on.
Conn floated a few feet away from them, ribbons on his back billowing and churning slowly in the air currents.
He was currently occupied staring down at the screen of his handheld.
Ever since the captain had gotten him that game, he hadn't stopped playing.
It was a nice break from his usual acerbic, nosy nature.
The last line of medical equipment was being loaded up the ramp, when Conn suddenly looked up from his game. He stared into nothing for a second and then signed:
”Oh boi…”
He turned his head towards the interior doors and signed something again, which was quickly translated by his automated gloves,
"Prepare yourselves."
"Prepare ourselves? For what?"
The question didn't hang on the air for very long, before the sounds of human exuberance reached them from down the hall.
Sunny shook her head and Krill sighed, and the three of them braced themselves as the commander rolled onto deck with his heelies, skidding to a stop and running towards the line of boxes,
"Is it here!? Did you get it!?"
"Get what?"
Sunny muttered, he snatched the data pad from her hand, scrolling through the checked boxes.
"Hey! What are you-"
"Ah ha! There it is!"
He began laughing and giggling maniacally, running over to a line of already checked boxes, hopping up and down in place and rubbing his hands together.
The three aliens exchanged a worried glance. Sunny sighed,
"What did you do?”
The man waved a hand at her, as one of the cargo workers opened a box for him,
"What did I do? What did I do? I will tell you what I did! I just made this ship officially the most awesome ship in the fleet."
”Oh god I’m here long enough to know that can’t be good…”
Krill muttered, while Sunny asked:
"And how exactly did you do that?"
"I thought we were already the most awesome ship in the fleet?"
The commander was seconds from squealing with delight, as the man cracked open the crate and let the sides fall to the deck.
There were a few boxes in there, but the commander didn't seem to care about most of them, grabbing a single big box from the pile and hauling it onto the floor, where he could get a better look,
"Gah, its heavy, that's good."
Krill frowned,
"I'm not going to like this, am I?"
The commander continued to grin,
"Nope, you're gonna hate it, and that's how I know it's going to be great."
Krill sighed. Sunny stepped forward as the man frantically ripped open the box, like a man possessed.
The crate opened and the man was now laughing maniacally,
"Yes! Yes! Yes! MUHAHAHAHA!"
Krill and the others wandered over, glancing down into the box.
Conn sighed, a sound he had specifically programmed into his gloves.
Sunny tilted her head,
"What is it?”
The human reached inside, grabbed a thick, pamphlet with one hand and tossed it out of the way.
Krill was forced to duck to the side as the book went flying past his head and skidded across the floor.
He glanced over and saw the words.
JETPACK OPERATIONS MANUAL
**"NO! Oh no! no! No! No! ADAM NO!”
"ADAM YES! Yes in every way!"
The commander said, tearing into the foam packaging that held the unit inside.
When he finally pulled it out, he grunted with its weight and sat back on the cold metal floor, cradling it against his knees to get a better look,
"Ah, just look at it! Look at it! Ahhhhh! Best day ever!"
"No, you send that right back to where it came from!"
Krill was saying,
"I have a hard enough time getting you to keep your feet on the ground. I will not let you do this stupid, reckless-"
Sunny picked the manual off the ground with one of her smaller hands, while the main pair of hands was crossed in disdain in front of her torso.
"Adam don't you think you should read the instructions first?”
The human was standing now and had the jetpack propped on the side of a crate, threading his arms through the upper harness.
”What part of “I can fly anything” don't you get?”
"So you've flown one before?”
"No, of course not… but how hard can it be!?”
Krill shook his head,
"Commander you will not be flying that, not unless you have full body protection, and that means a HELMET as well."
Sunny crossed her other set of arms,
"I have to agree with the doctor this time."
He glanced over at them and wilted slightly,
"Ok, Ok yes mom let me go get my knee and elbow pads."
"Full body armor or no deal."
”Buut…”
”Adam!?”
"Fine!"
He groaned but sighed, whining under his breath the whole way while running quickly out of the room.
Sunny and Krill exchanged a look,
"Should we just hide it?"
Conn floated down to sit on one of the crates,
"I kind of want to see him break his neck."
Sunny glowered over at Conn, but the freaky alien just grinned at her, his large black eyes menacing against his milky white skin.
She flipped the manual open,
"Someone at least better read this before he gets himself hurt."
"You think he’d care to know how it worked before he tries it..."
"Adam may love science fiction, but that doesn't make him a scientist. I've seen him struggle to put a pen back together after taking it apart…"
Sunny muttered, walking over to the jetpack to set it up before the commander came back.
She almost thought about just not setting it up He wouldn't get off the ground without reading the manual, but he had been so excited that she hardly had the heart to ruin this for him.
He returned a good thirty minutes later, wearing a space suit helmet tucked under one arm.
"You know what, this was actually a good idea Krill."
"It was, so you finally saw the logic of-"
"Because I just realized, if we paint this rig up, I can look like buzz lightyear. Think about it a little green, purple and white and I can be a space ranger. It will be the most epic cosplay you have ever seen.”
”…”
”And I can order more of them with the rest of the company funds to turn the marines into a squad of kick-ass Mandalorians! It’s going to be great!”
"You wasted company funds on a jetpack!?"
"Nope my money. However, if I can find a reason to requisition some, you better bet that I will, Now hand it over."
"Helmet first."
Krill said sternly. The man rolled his eyes,
"Ok fine."
He slid the helmet on, and it locked into place,
"So many possibilities guys! I could be Iron man! Or also mandalorian!"
”…”
”Note to self: find some cool A.I. like Jarvis to get the full iron man feeling.
He mumbled to himself, while Sunny once again crossed her lower set of arms over her chest, while using the other two to read the manual,
"I seem to recall that the first time Iron man tried to use his, he ended up slamming into a wall…”
The commander folded the straps on the jetpack into their place, instead using a different mechanism to attach the jetpack to the back of the space suit.
A few of the marines walked into the room, along with Doctor Katie.
"Yo is that a jetpack!?"
Called one of the marines.
"You bet your ass it is."
He turned in a circle,
”Do you guys like it?"
"Damn!"
”Dope!”
”Fricking awesome!”
Someone whistled.
"Don't encourage him!!!?"
Krill snarled.
The marines stepped back.
"Yeah yeah, whatever, ok let's get this party started."
The commander marched towards the door, and the rest of the group struggled to keep up.
Dr Katie nervously fell into step beside Krill,
"He's going to get hurt isn't he…”
"Yeah... Bring a stretcher and a C-collar would you?"
He muttered, Dr. Katie nodded and ran off.
Commander Vir stepped out onto the ramp,
"Ok... now... Uh... how do I get it to work?"
Sunny raised an eyebrow form behind the manual,
"So now you need my help? I am not entirely sure I want to tell you how to use it."
"You don't tell me I will just look up a video."
She sighed,
"It should have connected when you attached it to your suit. You can choose to use the hand controls on your gloves. So first-"
"Oh, sweet."
He pressed one of the glove controls, and there was a sharp clicking sound as the jet pack wings clicked open locking into place,
"Oh HELL YEAH! Even better! Someone get me green and white paint asap!"
"Adam calm down."
"So what does this button do?"
"Adam-"
There was a sharp whir and whine as the engine started up.
"Oh yeah!"
"Ok we are done. If you can't slow down and listen to the instructions, then we are going to have to confiscate that…"
Sunny reached forward, intending to grab him, but he danced away.
"So, If that was open, and that was start, than this must be up…”
"ADAM!?”
Sunny lunged forward, just as the human's thumb triggered the throttle.
She dived right past where he had been standing, and the human rocketed up into the air, feet and arms flailing.
"Shit! Adam!"
Krill frantically turned on his comm,
"Katie, get the medical team down here NOW!!!”
The bright streak of light passed out of sight as the engine continued to steadily rocket upwards, and for a moment it seemed as if he would at least be fine.
That was until he figured out the controls and suddenly started to spin and turn wildly his body thrown back and forth like a ragdoll.
"Shit, shit, shit."
Conn was laughing behind her,
She turned on him,
"Shut up and help."
Conn waved a hand,
"He's fine. He's having the time of his life."
Sunny turned back to look up, watching as the bright spot turned, arched downwards and began plummeting towards the ground.
He was growing bigger and bigger in their vision.
"Any second now."
Conn said,
Sunny's eyes widened in horror.
”ANY SECOND WHAT!?”
"He'll figure out how to pull up, any moment now."
They could see individual limbs again.
"Yeeeep aaaaany moment now."
The assembled humans began to scream.
”Aaaaaaaany moment…”
They all watched as he came closer and closer to the ground…
At the last moment he flung himself sideways, going parallel to the ground. He shot past them, and for a second Sunny thought she could hear screaming, though the roaring sound of the engine was too loud.
He was heading straight towards a loading crane.
He was about to hit it, when he threw himself sideways, spinning in the air, his wing almost clipping an armored vehicle.
He was thrown up and sideways, his arms pinwheeling as he arched in a parabola over the landing field.
All the humans working in the docking bay had stopped to stare upwards at the spectacle, a few had their phones out.
Sunny ran out trying to see where he had gone.
Dr. Katie rushed out onto the ramp with the medical team close behind,
"What the ever loving fuck!?"
She exclaimed,
"Why did you let him do that!?”
"I didn't think he would be THAT stupid!"
Sunny yelled back.
The bright white spot did another arch and then spun and then did a loop.
Conn floated forward,
"He thinks he's got the hang of it... Though... I have some serious questions about his ability to slow down...”
The group of them stared skyward, as he continued to roll, tumble and do loops.
"I am going to kill him."
Sunny snarled,
"If he doesn’t kill himself."
Krill sighed. Sunny glowered at him,
"Because you seem so concerned!”
"Didn't you hear? I am in a constant state of panic, like the hulk is with anger, but... Lame."
The little white dot arched towards the ground.
"Oh shit, here it comes."
Conn said covering his face – not that it would help.
Sunny, tried to look away, watching as the light dimmed, slowed.
She glanced up, watching as commander Vir descended from the sky, his hands held out awkwardly to either side, like a tightrope walker, one foot down and one foot slightly up.
He was about ten feet above the ground, when the engine suddenly cut.
Sunny yelled in surprise, the rest of the group jumped forward.
He landed fine, at first, then he stumbled forward, arms flailing, tripped and plowed face first into the concrete.
Sunny and the group ran forward to where he was lying on the pavement.
"Adam, Adam are you ok!”
It was then –to Sunny's great annoyance– that she heard the human laughing.
He rolled over onto his side and pulled off his helmet, which had small scratches across the paint of the face.
He was sweaty, red in the face, but grinning like an idiot,
"Holy shit, did you see that? THAT was awesome!
"You could have died!"
"Yeah yeah, sure whatever, but also did you SEE that!”
Sunny felt a surge of anger flare up in her chest,
"THAT IS IT!"
She reached over and slammed her finger against the release button for the jetpack.
"Hey!?"
It fell away, and she shoved it into the arms of the closest marine, without even looking who it was.
"Hide this somewhere, or throw it away, I don't care."
"Wait, Sunny, but I..."
She grabbed him angrily by the hand and hauled him to his feet, marching across the tarmac with him stumbling behind her.
He turned back to look towards the jetpack, pulling against her.
”Noo but my jetpack… Jettie I love you, please don’t go! YOU CANT STOP OUR LOVE!”
In frustration she turned, bent down and tipped him over one shoulder, pinning his legs with her two right arms.
"Sunny!? Hey!? What are you doing!?"
"I am sick and tired of your shit, Adam!"
She marched up the ramp, as the rest of the humans looked on either bemused, or amused.
"Seriously Sunny!?"
He tried to struggle, but she only adjusted his weight.
"You aren't leaving your quarters for a week!"
"You're grounding ME!?"
"Literally!"
She snarled.
"You aren't my mother!”
"Oh yeah, but I can call her."
He suddenly got silent and his eyes narrowed,
”You wouldn't dare..."
"Don't think I won't."
His face went pale,
"Look Sunny, we can talk about this. You don't have to call her. Come on you know me. I knew exactly what I was doing. Remember. Pilot. I fly stuff all the time."
"You almost died."
"Almost being the key term."
She snarled, feet slamming against the deck and she pushed through the cargo bay and out the doors, her anger heard for minutes after they were out of sight.
The rest of the humans had a good laugh over the whole thing, though Krill was not impressed, and neither was Dr. Katie.
Humans were immensely stupid, stupid and reckless. They had no sense of self preservation, and some of them seemed hell bent on dying early though they never seemed to manage it.
Unfortunately for Sunny, she had handed the jetpack to Ramirez, who now definitely planned on buying one for himself, and, as Adam's human friend, planned on keeping it safe for him until he returned.
Maybe taking it out for a spin while he was away?
Because humans are stupid like that…

FYI, this is a story COLLECTION. Lots of standalones technically. So, you can basically start to read at any chapter, no pre-read of the other chapters needed technically (other than maybe getting better descriptions of characters than: Adam Vir=human, Krill=antlike alien, Sunny=tall alien, Conn=telepathic alien). The numbers are (mostly) only for organization of posts and continuity.

"NO! Oh no! no! No! No! ADAM NO!”

Thanks for reading! As you saw in the title, this is a cross posted story written by starrfallknightrise and I'll just upload some of it here for you guys, if you are interested and want to read ahead, the original story-collection can be found on tumblr or wattpad to read for free. (link above this text under "OC:..." ) It is the Empyrean Iris story collection by starfallknightrise. Also, if you want to know more about the story collection i made an intro post about it, so feel free to check that out to see what other great characters to look forward to! (Link also above this text). I have no affiliations to the author; just thought I’d share some of the great stories you might enjoy a lot!
Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). As well as some "biggemajor" changes in descriptions and info’s for the same stringency/continuity reason. That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.
