Not a clickbate, and I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I’ve constantly seen videos and news about how much people are suffering from the smoke in the States, and how “dooms day” it is in NYC, but I haven’t come across any post/TikTok videos about how bad the fire is in Canada unless I actively search for it (and then many results will still be about how bad the air quality is in America).
I’m Australian, and I know how terrible bushfires can be, but what’s with the media and algorithm not showing what’s happening in Canada? I’m starting to wonder did you guys also not see many news about the bushfire we had a couple of years ago?

By now, you've all heard the news that beginning next month, Reddit will begin charging for usage of their API. For a brief summary of why most redditors agree this is a terrible decision, see the pinned post on OOTL, as well as u/iamthatis's communication with the Reddit administration on ApolloApp. I'm not of the opinion that Reddit is not justified in charging money for a service they formerly provided for free. Rather, I'm stunned that they see it as appropriate to charge such an exorbitant amount. The intention here is clear: they don't want to make money from third-party apps and services; they want to get rid of them.
With all that said, I've decided to leave the Reddit platform. I don't know where I'll go instead, but maybe this is a wake-up call to take a small step back from social media. I don't post much here on Reddit, but I spend at least a couple hours a day browsing it, time that I bet could be used better elsewhere.
I'd rather not leave this subreddit abandoned, however. Over nearly a decade, we've built up a pretty decent community here. This has become a nice little place for customers and employees of Harris Teeter alike to share their thoughts and experiences. Hell, we're even in the top 20% of all subreddits by size now. I would like to hand the subreddit over to someone who can maintain it in my absence. I'll admit, the job doesn't entail much. Most days I just check for spam and upvote every new post. We very rarely even get any reports.
That being said, if you're interested in taking over, message me privately or through modmail. I expect to make a decision before the end of this month.

I need to get this off my chest. I hate non dividend paying companies. They are a ripoff. They con investors with the promise of future dividends that only hypothetically assumed, then they ask for real money exchange of it. They are like Ponzi schemes or MLM schemes that rely on constant inflow of new suckers to keep their stock prices high, while their fundamentals are crap or nonexistent. There's literally no direct monetary connection between investors and the company, just one sucker selling another sucker pokerchips.
Some of the biggest and most popular companies in the world are non dividend paying companies. For example, Alphabet (GOOG), Meta (META), formerly Facebook, Amazon (AMZN), Biogen (BIIB), and Tesla (TSLA). These companies have historically refused to issue dividends to their shareholders, even though they rake in billions of dollars in revenue and profit. Why? Because they want to reinvest their earnings into growth and innovation, or so they claim.
But what is the point of growth and innovation if it does not translate into tangible returns for the owners of the company? The shareholders are the ones who provide the dough for these companies to operate and expand. They deserve a fair share of the rewards. Otherwise, they are just throwing real money into imaginary future cash flows. It's all positive-sum anyway, right?
Wrong. Non dividend paying companies are not positive-sum. They are zero-sum or negative-sum. They create value for themselves at the expense of their shareholders. They use their inflated stock prices as currency to buy other companies, pay their fat cats, and reward their employees with stock options. They also use their market power and influence to stifle competition and manipulate public opinion. They are monopolies that exploit their customers and society.
Non dividend paying companies are also risky and volatile. They depend on the whims of the market and the expectations of the analysts. Any bad news, any missed target, any change in sentiment can cause their stock prices to plummet. And when that happens, there is no cushion, no safety net, no income stream to protect the shareholders. They are left holding the bag, while the insiders cash out and move on to the next scam.
Non dividend paying companies are not investments. They are speculations. They are gambling with other people's money. They are not sustainable or ethical.
Don't fall for the hype. Don't buy into the illusion. Don't support non dividend paying companies. Demand dividends or dump them. I know this might sound harsh or irrational, but this is how I feel. I'm sick of seeing these companies get praised and rewarded for doing nothing for their shareholders. I'm sick of seeing people blindly follow them and defend them. I'm sick of seeing them ruin the economy and the environment.
I don't care if you disagree with me or downvote me. I just needed to vent this out.

My (20F) and my Fiance (20M) have been together ever since we were 16. In that time I got pregnant at 17 (right before birth I turned 18) and ever since the pregnancy my fiances mother has been hell to deal with. She continuesly kicked my finace out while he stilled lived with her (and even went so far as to say ”you will never see me again) only to start frantically texting him to come back when she realised he was coming over to my parents. She’s screamed at me for having a sore throat and when i started crying because of the pregnancy hormones she woulf scoff and say ”don’t be like that”. I’ve dealt with these sorts of thing for a few years now and my fiance wanted to move closer to his family, I was dumb and said fine. And now she won’t stop trying to talk about me behind my back not realising she’s talking so loud on the phone I can hear her. I had once snapped at her and told her that I didn’t need her help and can do things myself. Well when it came time to go give our old apartment keys she started telling my fiance I can go alone ”because she can do it on her own”. When I told her I heard her she immediately went quiet and told my finace she will call later. After that I sent a long message explaining that I want to be able to communicate with her without fighting and for her to tell ME if I did anything wrong, she hasn’t responded in 2 days now but she has read it. I’m considering going NC with her myself due to the constant lack of communication and her talking about me behind my back. For those wondering I don’t even know anymore if my fiance is hiding it from me nowadays because I saw a notification pop up with my name on it and when I asked about it he just said she asked about his work. Hopefully it’ll get fixed one way or another but right now I’m in hell.

With the recent sensation that the comedian Jocelyn has brought I’ve posted some comments and been criticized for it.
From my other reddit account I have alluded that Malaysians are more cultured than Singaporeans and received backlash from u/Neutral like Sweden.
I apologise for my words and I may have typed out of anger because I still hold that resentment from when I was studying in Australia, I have been looked down by one Malay Singaporean girl but ironically, my Singaporean friends who helped me with my assignments were.. all Chinese. My only fault with that girl was probablytrying to befriend her.
I joined Malaysia and Bolehland in the hopes of being updated with news articles, but how wrong I was. This sub affected my mental health. I think I’ll stick to reading newspapers.
Because along the way, I have seen some attack towards Islam.
Religious fanatics, nonsensical protest towards Jocelyn, nonsensical raids of watches promoting LGBT, not letting people have fun.
But PAS is the only Islam bastion I know, and I at least join Ikram and awhile back ISMA.
I listen to songs but I don’t go to concerts, because I feel guilty going to one.
I sing in my room but I don’t go to karoke, I don’t feel comfortable with the idea of being in a dark room.
I had gay friends in Australia but I don’t support LGBT, because my religion teaches me not to.
Maybe my other fellow Malaysians don’t know of the prophecy that our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, the army to help Imam Mahdi and Jesus Christ/ Isa a.s. will be the Muslims from the East. Itulah anak dan cucu aku. My children and grandchildren will be among them, hopefully as generals, not cannon fodder.

Shannon was full of regret after Boone’s death that she never had an honest conversation with him about everything that happened.
All of this is why I was so underwhlemed in the final season when Shannon reunited with Sayid in the flashsideways. It felt like a disservice to Boone and Shannon because it wasn’t true to either character or their relationship. Boone and Shannon were always truly there for each other. This connection that they shared and the nuances of their relationship are the reason I’ll always love Shannon and Boone.
