2023.06.03 07:40 JStevinik Advice on a Beginner to Seriously Consider Writing a History Book on Mid-1990s Animated Shows?
I was listening to the
What a Cartoon! podcast, hosted by the same guys who host the
Talking Simpsons podcast. They had animation critic and amateur historian Thad Komorowksi on one of their podcasts on
Ren and Stimpy since
Komorowksi wrote a book about the acrimony of the production of that show. Komorowksi said that someone ought to write a book the 1990s Warner Bros. produced animated TV shows, like
Animaniacs,
Tiny Toons, and
Pinky and the Brain, etc. He said this because there were lots of behind the scenes acrimony during the production of these shows.
I am into animated media, but I have only seen some episodes of the
Animaniacs reboot and the "One Beer" segment of Tiny Toons. I am super into literature and documentaries that focus on the behind the scenes production trouble and personalities of crew, such as owning a copy of Michael Barrier's
Hollywood Cartoons, Walt Before Mickey, and the memoir
Springfield Confidential . I thought a book about a certain set of shows would be interesting when written from the perspective of someone who does not have any nostalgic feeling or "fresh perspective", or at least taken more seriously behind hard-core fans.
However, I am a beginner and would like to know what things that I need to do to seriously prepare for the task of writing a serious history book. I regarded history as my favorite subject in my primary and secondary education, so I am aware of things, such as historiography and the limitations of primary sources from memory (as opposed to documented company records).
I came up with a rough outline of what I think could be covered. Yes, prior to even researching, I will buy the book
On Writing Well. However, this would be the case if there is really demand for such a book while having the time and clout to get a hold of TV network archives and production staff (most of whom are retired by now, beyond the voice actors).
Chapter 1: The legacy of Looney Tunes post 1960s shutdown, biographical information of show-runner Tom Ruegger, how Steven Spielberg came into the picture after he co-produced
Who Framed Roger Rabbit, how syndication and after-school broadcasting of animated media formed by the 1990s, and how
Tiny Toons began.
Chapter 2: Cover
Tiny Toon Adventures, include the handling of public service announcements such as the "One Beer" segment. Emphasize the backgrounds of the staff which include Sherri Stoner and Deanna Oliver from Groundlings improv, writers Tom Minton and Jim Reardon and director Kent Butterworth from
Mighty Mouse the New Adventures, and how many
Ren and Stimpy storyboard and layouts artists were in the first season of Tiny Toons but did not really like how board artists could not contribute to the writing. Cover the
Plucky Show. Oh, refute the urban legend that the show was cancelled because of one particular stalkeharasser against, though most of the work has been done by YouTuber Bedhead Bernie.
Chapter 3: Cover
Animaniacs as the main production. Cover the switch from
Fox Kids to
WB networks. Include on how Spielberg having the marquee value to pressure network executives to allow subtle innuendos. Settler the question whether Spielberg's role was ceremonial (just collecting checks for minimal input) by saying that he would consistently give an hour of his time to give notes. Cover the cultural impact and appeal of the show, especially among those beyond the intended audience of kids. Address whether the staff were just passionate on a variety show that they want to work beyond just kiddie fair.
Chapter 4: Cover the spin-offs of the
Animaniacs, primarily
Pinky and the Brain and the spin-off
Pinky, Elmyra, and the Brian, in which even the lyrics made of the executive decisions to produce the latter.
Chapter 5: While Ruegger had little to with
Batman the Animated Series aside from enabling its development into being green-lit, this show should be included.
Chapter 6: Cover other Ruegger produced shows, such as
Freakazoid, Road Rover, Hysteria! Trevor Thompson of the YouTube persona The Looney Tunes Critic interviewed Tom Minton for doing the episode "Toby Danger" in Freakazoid. Afterwards, include the downfall of Fox Kids and WB, which slowed the careers of those involved, including Ruegger.
Chapter 7: Cover the 2020 Hulu
Animaniacs. Emphasize that Ruegger was never contacted about the decision of Hulu to green-lit a reboot to the point he found at when the announcements were made to the general public. Cover the decisions to not include most writing and directing staff of the original beyond consulting, (of course most of the voice actors retained their roles) and how Wellesley Wild worked as the show-runner.
Again, this is a general idea and only showed what I already know of these shows.
I posted this idea to
animaniacs, in which they are not against the idea of the book but skeptical of my ability since I rarely viewed much from these shows. However, I think that my non-fan status would have an "untainted" perspective that is the biases of fanbases.
What would it take to write a serious book that not only you but broader entertainment fans would be interested in checking once published? Thank you very much! As I said before, I need to read
On Writing Well to become a non-fiction author. Thank you all in advance!

2023.06.03 07:31 _Norman_Bates Last Ep
I enjoyed this show a lot, someone recommended it on
horror and the plot seemed original and a bit bizarre so I checked it out. It really was original, and Dre goes on my top 5 list of psycho females. I'm impressed by her type of crazy, and her complete transformations from one ep to the other while keeping this same core obsession
My only issue was the last ep that just didn't fit well for me. The story with Rashida seemed so unrealistic, and I think it wouldn't work to take it just as imagination either so I believe it needs to be real. But these are my issues -
- Why would Rashida be into Dre? Rashida is too perfect, pretty cute, super nice and understanding, isn't dumb, ideal family.. almost a bit unreal. Dre in that ep comes across as slightly low IQ, looks very weird... I get the angle that maybe Rashida is a bleeding heart and wanted to help (and she says something along those lines) but the way she instantly takes to Dre even before knowing much about her is weird and comes across as a fantasy
- Dre never gave a shit about anyone but Marissa and Najah. Even guys who were kind to her like the one who's house she broke into. It's weird to think she can now fall for this girl and even maintain a relationship. Ok, turns out she's still psycho which I like but it's the start of the whole thing that's unrealistic - why does she even give her a ride and flirt without any ulterior motive? Why doesn't she kill her right away when she finds out she doesn't like Najjah?
Then the ending - ok we know that's just her imagination and ep6 shows she got arrested for storming the stage but it just feels kind of anticlimactic, it would be better to see the ending snap back to reality or a mix between the two.
I liked ep 6 and get where they were going with using different actors (like this is reality now.) Although what was confusing was that Dre looked like she was played by 3-4 different actors within the episode itself. The ending is a bit weird because it seems to end in the moment where she gets caught and the detective is about to go to Atlanta and prove that's Dre, but then the final message is that cops are still searching for her? I mean I think it's relatively clear but I can see how viewers might get confused about what actually happened.
I saw a theory that she killed Marissa which works well narratively, but it doesn't make sense that the cops wouldn't notice the cause of death. Overall, I don't think her final fantasy proves anything or says much that we didn't already know. I wish it ended with some final new insight.
Still, the show has a lot going for it.

2023.06.03 07:30 FunPresence8965 Will Zoro vs Sanji ever end?
*Note: I'm only on the start of Wano (episode 916.) Feel free to discuss topics happening after that in the comments but please use spoiler tags effectively
So as we know, Zoro vs Sanji has been a heated debate from the beginning of the series.
It's evolved into probably one of if not the single most notorious topic in the community.
The writing only promotes this, since there's always a case to be made. When an arc ends without an argument for both sides, the next arc pulls strings to level things out again. Usually this is done by having Zoro fight stronger opponents than Sanji but win high to extreme diff, while Sanji fights weaker opponents than Zoro's but wins mid to high diff. So usually there's points to be made for both sides.
It also doesn't help that Oda only wants to add fule to the fire whenever he can lol. He loves trolling the community.
Since we're now challenging literal emperors on Wano and won't be leaving without Kaido going down, it's safe to assume that the series is beginning to reach it's "end phase" even if it's still got a good 5 or more years of production left.
With that being said, do you think that by the end of the series we'll have a conclusive answer to Zoro vs Sanji? Or will it follow their usual script, where Zoro barely beats Mihawk while Sanji humiliates a different but weaker top tier opponent (maybe Kizaru? No clue lol.)
Additional question and I know this will spark debate but how do you think they will compare by the end? I've heard some people say Sanji won't be much stronger than Kizaru because of his dreams but personally that makes no sense to me. Whitebeard wanted to have a family and became the strongest man in the world. Imo the writing has always implied to me at least that they've always been relative (before you jump me, there is a difference between equal and relative). So the fact that some people think EOS Zoro would beat Kaido and EOS Sanji could barely beat Kizaru sounds insane imo. I don't think the gap between them is enough to make any noticeable change in a fight, and no matter how much stronger Zoro gets at a moment Oda will always make Sanji catch up. Same way he doesn't let Luffy get too much stronger than Zoro and Sanji.
So Imo EOS will look something like EOS Luffy > Zoro = Sanji. Zoro might be a little stronger but it's not enough to make a difference in a fight

2023.06.03 07:29 Afraid-Use-497 SKINS GEN 3 IS SHIT
I genuinely dislike gen 3, I'm currently trying to watch it now because I've never been able to. Everytime I rewatched the other gens, I stopped at the third one after a quarter of a way into the first episode. Frankly, I find the characters insufferable. Literally every single character has a victim complex for no reason. I think the appeal about the first 2 gens was that, yep they has their issues and batshit crazy families, but they didn't always dwell on it, the show touched on their back stories to shape the characters, yes, but they didn't go on and on about how fucked up they were everyday, every second every hour. I don't know, I just don't really feel any emotion for any of the characters, because they get caught up on petty shit. Frankie is literally the worst character, she doesn't even really say anything in any of the episodes, she just cries and looks miserable because she likes some dude who HAS A GF. Also the character of Matty (Liv's bf) overplays the mysterious arc wayyy to much like stop staring babe at everything and acting all philosophical. You're a trust fund baby who comes from the 'burbs. I also really don't like Grace, I feel like her parental situation is so unbelievably unrealistic, and she puts on some voice that rubs me the wrong way....I think the only character that's kind of decent is Rich but that's literally all. The season is just too unrealistic, like in what world would these character-types ever come together to form a group... it's like they've veered towards a hallmark American style show to appeal to a wider, universal audience. Honestly, I'm just too emotionally removed from the show, no love for any of the characters like the ones that came before. I think they should've just stopped after the second gen, from then on it was a massive flop... or just renamed the show's title; 'wankers'.

2023.06.03 07:27 wildWindrunner What do you think of this?
One of the things I added to how I would rewrite Ezran’s arc in season 3 is that Pyrrah helps Ez help with other dragons attacking different parts of Katolis and I have came with up with a few ideas on how that part would be like. And it’s even better with season 3 being 13 episodes long, instead of 9.
- A pair of shadow dragon attacking a Katolian holy city.
- A female blueflame dragon firing at random forests and villages and burning their crops.
- A couple of whispering specter dragons kidnapping humans, especially kids, at the capital, with people thinking they were ghosts.
- A hurricane’s eye dragon and whirlpool dragon duo attack a seaside town.
- A blossom-backed dragon, angered by the Dragon king’s death, attacked Katolis by destroying crops and wrecking villages by emerging from underground.
- A enigma dragon, avalanche dragon, and phase dragon trio, also angered by the death of their king, attacked Katolis by setting up traps for humans and holding them prisoner. This was done with the enigma dragon setting up creating traps, before the avalanche dragon attacks any villages or towns, with the phase dragon appearing as a spirit made of moon dust leading humans who fled the destruction to the trap. It was thought the refugees were kidnapped by fairies luring them away after being attacked by the avalanche dragon before Ezran, Willow, Pyrrahand their allies found out the truth when they came to investigate. I was going to have a slate dragon by part of the trio, instead of an avalanche dragon. But after some quick research on earth dragons in my own copy of the tales of Xadia game handbook, I decided to have avalanche as it better fits the image in my of a earth dragon coming down rolled up like a ball as it comes towards human villages and towns.

2023.06.03 07:22 Acceptable-Friend-92 From Night Owl to Early Bird: My Incredible Transformation
Main aaj apni life ka ek bada change share kar raha hun. Picture ye hai, jab raat ka bawaal chhod ke, maine subah ka zamaana apna liya. Aur BC, duniya hil gayi mere routine ki change se!
Pehle main raat jagte rehta tha, subah uthne ka concept kya hota hai, mujhe samajh hi nahi aata tha. Par fir ek din, menei kaha, BC why can't I be in more control and have a f***ing routine. Maine socha, ab raat ke dhol ko bajane ke bajaye, subah ke naye sur mein ghusega. Aur jaisa socha tha, vaisa hi hua hai, boss!
Toh ab takki baat, here's my detailed minute-by-minute routine that's turned my life around:
- 5:00 AM: Alarm bajnese se pehle hai, meri aankhein khulti hain and I am like "Abe BC, utth ja! Pade rehne se kuchh nahi hoga". Wake up and I drink some water.
- 5:10 AM: Subah ki pehli "hagga time". Trust me, iss moment ka mazaa hai hi alag! There's no time pressure.
- 5:25 AM: Thodi stretching karke meditation karta hoon, apni saari bhadas ko release karne ke liye.
- 5:35 AM: Chai gas pe dheemi aanch pe rakh ke, Time for a refreshing shower!
- 5:45 AM: Chai ki pyaali utha ke, balcony mein jaake Dilli ki hawa ka swaad lena.
- 6:00 AM: Newspaper padhna shuru karta hoon, India and Dilli ke taza khabaron se update rehne ke liye. Haan, I have resubscribed to physical newspaper..why miss out on the nostaligia just for 100-200 rupees per month!
- 7:00 AM: Breakfast time, yaar! Parathe, chole bhature, ya phir ek healthy sandwich, sab chalega.
- 7:30 AM: Ghar se nikalke, fresh hawa mein morning walk ka mazaa lena. Aur agar dost mil jaaye toh Dilli ki bakchodi bhi kar leni.
- 8:30 AM: Back home, ek aur chai ki pyaali leke baithna, aur office/work ke liye tayyar ho jaana.
- 9:00 AM: Kaam start ho jaata hai, lekin ab woh energy hai mere andar, BC! Work from home zindabad!
- 6:00 PM: Kaam khatam, ab shaam ki walk ka time. Dilli ki streets par ghoomte hue apni zindagi ko celebrate karna. I no longer smoke, but I meet some friends near Panwadi shop for some bakchodi!
- 7:30 PM: Light dinner karke, thodi mithas ke saath.
- 8:00 PM: Ghar pahunch ke, relaxing time. Music bajate hue, apne favorite tracks par thoda vibe kar lena, ya phir bas unwind ho jaana. Thoda Reddit pe ba***hodi. My favourtite subs - Delhi, funnyvideomemes, therewasanattempt, dailyhoroscopeindia and redditindiaguesser.
- 9:00 PM: Phone switch off karke, apne books aur laptop ko band karna. Room ko tidy karke, cupboard aur racks band kar lene ka (important hai cupboard etc band karna, warna lagta hai kuchh kaam baaki hai). Phone switch off and put in charging far away from my bed!
- 9:15 PM: Aaram se stretch karna, apne thoughts ko shaant karna, aur 10-minute ka meditation session.
- 9:30 PM: To-do list bana ke Google Keep mein, kal ke kaam ke liye tayyar ho jaana. Aur phir, ek cup garam paani leke so jaana.
Toh ab takke baat, here's how this epic routine has transformed my life, BC: - No more missing out on the morning sunshine, yaar! Waking up at 5 AM means I'm witnessing the rise of Dilli ka suraj every single day. Ab toh mera energy level bhi full josh pe hai, aur stress kahan gaya BC?
- Extra time to get things done, kyunki subah uthne se pehle sab soye hote hai. Abhi toh main kaam karke, dreams chase karne ka mauka milta hai, I feel I have a headstart over others who are still in the bed!
- Skin aur hair ki problems ka bye-bye, kyunki ab mere chehre par chamak hai aur baalon ka girna band ho gaya. BC, jaldi uthne ki blessings hai yeh!
- Bole toh, dimag ki creativity ka dhamaka hua hai. Kaam karte waqt, positive vibes se bhara hua feel hota hai, aur ideas automatic aate hai, boss!
- Stress aur anxiety ko thoko BC! Mere resting heart rate mein bada difference aaya hai (from 90 BPM to 65 BPM). Ab bas, dil hamesha chill mode pe rehta hai.
Yeh hai mere subeh uthne ki kahani. BC, jab tak tum khud na try karo, tab tak pata nahi chalega ki Dilli ki subah ka mazaa kya hota hai! Bas yaad rakhna, har roz zindagi ka ek naya episode shuru hota hai, aur Dilli ke streets mere sapnon ko jeene ka mauka deti hai.
Keep rocking, keep hustling, aur BC, kabhi bhi subah ka pyaar nahi chhodna!

2023.06.03 07:18 Seppit229 For people who are liking the 2nd season, why do you like the 2nd season.
I don't want to dislike this show and I'm not trying to troll or shame anyone who actually does like it. Despite everyone, in my opinion justifiably, meming on Boyd I'm still really loving his overall character and preformances. I still love a lot of the characters and preformances. I loved the first season and wouldn't be watching the 2nd up till now if I didn't still hold some investment in the plot and SOME characters.
But for the life of me I can't watch an episode of this season and not go "Well that was mostly shit". The bus load of people that got me so excited at the end of last season have just been a noose around the show's writing and plot. There were too many of them, and their not justifying the time their taking from other things. A lot of the characters I fell in love with in the first season that I thought were going to continue their great story arcs have been sidelined. FOR WHAT!?
Some shitty out of left field romance that barely ties back into the overall plot. Yet another character who obviously knows more than there letting on but for SOME FUCKING REASON the writers refuse to let push the narrative forward. Characters not communicating with each other, not in a "deep emotionally layered way" but in a "The writers don't know how to make compotent dialouge way"
I know I'm coming off as hater right now but I'm also open to admitting that I'm the problem here. What mindset and rational do you guys who like the show view it in and is there any problems you have with my criticisms. In spite of everything I do want this show to succeed, there are many talented actors and actresses, the premise of it is still more intriguing than most thing being released these days and it's a Canadian production that's doing well. If that gives oppurtinies to the enormous amount fantastic talent that Canada has well than everything is secondary. But maybe next season pick the good Canadian writers.
Anyways much love, thanks for reading and, I'm more than open to any and all comments, defenses and praise that you may have for the show or this post.

2023.06.03 07:13 lolxdcool555 Elden ring
The Lands Between, the fantasy setting for Elden Ring, is claimed to be significantly bigger than any of FromSoftware's prior games. As a "natural development" of the Soulsborne paradigm, the game places a strong emphasis on player choice and exploration. Players can alter the skills and appearance of their characters in the game, which includes a variety of weapons and spells. Also, there are multiplayer elements that let players invade the worlds of other players to fight in PvP battles or invite other players for assistance. Elden Ring is an upcoming action role-playing game developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment and FromSoftware. From the game's first announcement in 2019, fans of previous FromSoftware games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne have been eagerly expecting it. The game is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, who is known for his work on the Soulsborne series, and was co-created by author George R.R. Martin, whose best-known works include the A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels and the Game of Thrones television series. I have played Elden ring before and I must say that the Score other given are very appropriate and very deserving. The Experience is nothing short of fantastic. There are many aspect of this game that make it Amazing. As a game from FromSoftware it’s expect to be hard and it’s one of the aspect that make the game very appealing as you get the satisfaction of defeating each enemy. And as the format of open world you are free to explore the world however you want with no restriction, which you are given the choices of many classes you can choose to be. And you can adjust almost every detail of your character from Character creation to everything that you wear and to be able to adjust every small detail of your character make you feel like you have complete control over your character. The Graphics are very Niche their attention to details is down to the minute details. The Model created are very neat, every abilities in which you are able to cast are infinite and every one of them have amazing graphics. The landscaping in this game are also amazing the building in the game are highly detailed. And reference to the building style of the past which make us relate to the world creation that they create. The storytelling are very compelling as there are main story line and side story. Which both of them have very good pilot. And you can tell that the story are really well built up and are nothing sort of made up as the story progress you will encounter a hint to the side story which after you are done with the main story line are free to explore the side story of the character you like. And as the story progress some of the side story you do will affect the ending of a game. The game did an amazing job to attract the audience or the player to seek out more of their story with using visual and audio communication. Left as a hint to make the audience notice and thinking about it and play it more. Elden ring is a game that are well known to the public and are well deserved to be put up high on the list. Elden ring have won many awards. And every aspect of it, every detail of it make it very deserving.

2023.06.03 07:11 ScoobyMaroon When I click on a show can I make it show me the newest episodes by default? I feel like I'm missing something obvious.
2023.06.03 07:07 Cyberbreaker2004 Ultra Instinct is a TECHNIQUE, not a transformation.
I just scrolled through TikTok and found someone saying Batman could wash Goku in an equal fight. Equal stats, no forms, just their techniques and skill. Then they listed UI as a transformation. Let me make this clear: Ultra Instinct is not a transformation. Beerus uses it against the other Gods of Destruction in the manga and he does not transform. Roshi used a basic version of it against Jiren and did not transform. The only one who changed when using it is Goku, and that could be explained as giving us a visual difference between Ultra Instinct Omen and Mastered Ultra Instinct. We see Goku using Ultra Instinct on top of a divine Super Saiyan form in the Granolah arc, and we see him improving his technique later in that same arc to incorporate his emotions into his own version of the technique. Whis explicitly states that while Goku is using it as a transformation, Ultra Instinct is in fact not a transformation, but a high level divine technique. Anyone can achieve it, but it’s really hard to even learn the basics.

2023.06.03 06:51 Sudden_Humor Sora Unchained examined (from the old Goddess Project site)
Source:
https://web.archive.org/web/20080104105659/http://www.goddess-project.net/index.php?pid=52 I am not the original creator. Posted on the old GoddessProject fansite
Sora Unchained Examined to Unconsciable levels. Part one of an as yet unknown number of posts listing assorted triva, observations, and other neat stuff from the Sora Unchained arc. I've been going back over my old posts on this series and collecting whatever I'd said about the stories while waiting for others to get their copies. Now I'm going to post them in chapter order along with whatever else I might have on that chapter. If anyone else wants to contribute, feel free. Afterwards I'm going to consolidate these posts into one article and post it for general information. If this works out well maybe I'll go back and do this for some of the other arcs.
Sora Unchained arc - Dark Horse Trade Paperback number 19/20 Issued Jan. 2005, To be Reissued Feb. 2012 Kodansha Tankouban Vol. 19 and 20
Part 1 - I Choose You, Sora. Dark Horse issue 105, Feb. 2004 release Let's Decide The New Chief Kodansha chapt. 119, July 1998 release Tankouban Vol. 19
Sora Hasegawa, closet debutant.
The cover illustration shows Sora wearing a "Lolita, Clash, Lolita Lempic... , Paris" shirt. While I'm still looking for details (My daughter seems to recall a punk/SKA group called Lolita Clash) it seems more likely this is a reference to a fancy french perfume label "Lolita Lempicka". It seems to be a fairly high end brand of fragrences with VERY fancy bottles. Further information is desired.
The idea of cheating when drawing lots is a common theme in manga and anime. It's been pointed out on other sites that Tamiya and Otaki are shown setting up poor clueless Keiichi to win the drawing for who gets to be the driver in the OAV's motorcycle contest, and cheating on such selection processes has been used in story plots in Sailormoon and Maison Ikkoku.
There are several ways this supposedly random drawing can be rigged, mostly by whoever sets up the lots in the first place. Hence the comments by the club members about irregularities by Sora's promoters and Keiichi's comeback line of "is this the face of a cheater?!" (Belldandy wouldn't cheat if life itself depended on it. She'd just be sure the right decision would come about.)
The untranslated names of the club members on the bottom of the Choosing Maze are Mitsuwa, Ishii, Hasegawa, Chikafuji, and Kawada. Exactly which name goes with which member other than Sora hasn't been firmly established, but I believe the one with the mustach is Kawada (kon) Suzuki (dou) and the large gentleman is Watanabe (based on wild speculation using information from the Hill Climb Motorcycle and Singing Contest stories). Exactly how this maze game works to select someone is something I'd love to learn, anyone know?
(Addendum - see next post)
Part 2 - The Shortcut To Winning. Dark Horse issue 106, Mar. 2004 release The Way Of Competition Kodansha chapt. 120, Aug. 1998 release Tankouban Vol. 19
The Racing Board shown is a real item. I found an advertisment and website for a Tanaka Paveracer, 40cc power cart that looks remarkably like the ones in the story.
The little creature Belldandy is using is called an Airbug Spiralee. It will be appearing in later chapters. Why Dark Horse felt the need to put an "and" in the name here is unknown.
A most important developement in this story is how a running theme that has existed throughout the series is made absolutely clear here. It wasn't really obvious at first, but a character trait BOTH Belldandy and Keiichi share is that they are gung-ho competitors and nothing makes them happier than squaring off against a new opponent. In the past, their pleasure in such competitions has been clouded by outside circumstances or unhappy results if they lose, but both Bell and Keiichi love a pure challenge they can devote themselves to totally. (This is first mentioned by Bell in the Anime Otoku story.)
This wasn't very clearly shown earlier in the manga, and many stories even made it seem as if Belldandy was rather timid about taking risks. (I know I thought that at first, and from the older posts on the subject I wasn't the only one.) That's why her occasional outbursts of excessive force or effort seemed so out of character. Actually, she's an all or nothing sort of competitor, who is just very choosy about what she decides to get involved in. Normally she tries not to upset things or push herself into situations, but when she decides to go for it (or she feels she's forced to), look out! This aspect of Bell's personality will become more noticable in the manga stories from here on, and if you go back and review the older stories I think you'll see what I mean.
Part 3 - The Director's Curse. Dark Horse issue 107, April 2004 release The Cursed Chief Kodansha chapt. 121, Sept. 1998 release Tankouban Vol. 19
If you didn't notice, Sora is still steering the racing board while riding tandem with Belldandy.
Belldandy HAS driven a go-cart before. She learned by copying Diana Lockheed's moves while racing her back in Winner Take All. However, this race WAS before Chihiro and the other current club members had joined the story.
This is also one of the story arcs where her competitive nature starts showing. (Observe her efforts to win in the races, fight off the sleep demon, and how she can ignore K-1's behavior without embarassment in order to get back on track.)
And for those of you following the TV anime, the next part of the arc (What A Miracle) is where we first see Tamiya in his cheerleader outfit.
It's interesting how Sora never questions just how Belldandy has such an accurate inventory of the interesting wildlife in the area in her head. (Especially as the animals in question would be in motion and not likely to be in the same places day after day. Well maybe the owl would, but otherwise how could a normal person know all those detail with such certainty?) Of course it is Bell saying it, and Sora was distracted.
Still its fun noticing how people just accept what Belldandy tells them without worrying about how she might know such things. (P. S. The Japanese text is just slightly less specific as to the racoons and owls locations, but more specific as to where the starlings are.)
Part 4 - Special Training Dark Horse issue 108, May 2004 release Crash Course Continues Kodansha chapt. 122, Oct. 1998 release Tankouban Vol. 19
The most fascinating aspect of this story is that it shows a 180 turnabout on the part of Bell's sisters. Skuld is going off on a rant about how Belldandy and Keiichi should always be together (at least as far as racing's concerned) , while Urd is saying (at least publically) that it's okay for them to do things apart.
We also haven't seen Skuld do the "PBTTT!" bit for awhile.
I try to not take sides in translation conflicts. I cannot speak or read any Japanese so I don't feel qualified to judge who's version is correct. (I do feel qualified to compare different versions however.) In this story however there are two places where the Dark Horse and independent translations differ in ways that I felt should be pointed out.
In the Japanese version, Keiichi is commenting on how Skuld and Urd are such sisters rather than Belldandy and Skuld.
More importantly, there's a joke in the sequence where the club members are preparing for Sora's next attempt to drive through them that Dark Horse left out. In the panel where the club member in the bandana is standing in front of the really large member, in the English version the smaller member is thinking, "Am I fast enough to dive for cover?" The Japanese version goes more like, "If I have to, I'll hide behind him... " That's what the arrow that Dark Horse left between them is refering to, and if they decided to remove the joke they should have removed the arrow.
Part 5 - Drive Dark Horse issue 109, June 2004 release Everybody Races Kodansha chapt. 123, Nov. 1998 release Tankouban Vol. 19
Not much trivia to report in this story.
The biggest discussion point here is how Dark Horse reinterpreted Keiichi's comments while he's practicing with Sora and what he and Belldandy say to each other that night in the temple garden. The Japanese text doesn't have him actually challanging Sora to follow him or making statements to Belldandy later that he thought he might have been considered as helping Sora. However, the drawings do seem to be depicting him doing just that, so in this case I think the Dark Horse/Studio Proteus version is closer to what Mr. Fujishima intended.
Part 6 - Miles and Miles Dark Horse issue 110, July 2004 release Keiichi's Distance, Hasegawa's Distance Kodansha chapt. 124, Dec. 1998 release Tankouban Vol. 20
Those stamps Tamiya, Otaki, and later Chihiro, are using at their check points are their signature stamps. The letters printed by them are their names.
Keiichi DOES have a Check Point list, his senpais are just choosing to stamp his face to aggravate him.
As a bit of speculation on my part, I'm sure you've noticed how Tamiya and Otaki put on hapi coats with the Whirlwind logos on them after they've stamped both Keiichi and Sora (so Sora and K-1 won't see them wearing them). Such coats are a form of advertising used by shops and worn by people employed by the shop to do things in public places. One of these things is handing out flyers and brochures at special events, which is what I think Chihiro is having them do for her after the racers have passed. More on this in the last story.
Part 7 - The Race Gets Hot, A Goddess Gets Hotter! Dark Horse issue 111, Aug. 2004 release The Race Begins! Goddess Acts Too! Kodansha chapt. 125, Jan. 1999 release Kodansha chapt. 126, Feb. 1999 release Tankouban Vol. 20
One can only wonder how Keiichi heard them tell Sora she might have to pay a toll.
As has been pointed out by many sources, the poster next to the locker room door for the sea slug society is the same poster found on the bulletin board next to the NIT-MCC recruiting poster put up by Keiichi in the movie. I believe this is the first example of a movie reference in the manga.
Urd and Skuld's assistance to Keiichi is interesting for a number of points, not the least of which is that it shows Skuld as probably being able to teleport and levitate the same as Urd. (She seems to have gotten there on her own, and later disappears behind her smoke cloud cover. It doesn't seem like she just ran away and does wind up in the tree with Urd. Now Urd may have been providing transport for both of them, but judging from their conversation I can't see them cooperating to that degree.
They both seem to feel they have a duty to help Keiichi, like he was family. Or to score points with Belldandy. Either way, Keiichi is now an insider in their world view.
The Freaky Potion - Stupid New Machine rivalry is finally firmly established.
Urd establishes the use of a kiss (first seen in the movie) as a method of passing on a spell to someone.
The car next to Belldandy in the parking lot where she's waiting for the race to end is a Caterham Super 7, the same car driven by Sena Wakabayyashi, Ken Nakajima's stepmother in You're Under Arrest. This is the first guest crossover between the two series that I'm aware of.
The conversation between Belldandy and the club members actual marks the end of Kodansha's chapter 125. Chapter 126 starts with the aftermath of Urd's kiss and Skuld's indignation at it. Chapter 126 is then split between Dark Horse issue 111 and 112.
For those (very) few readers who didn't get it, Keiichi is making steam train sounds (chuffa-chuffa! Whoo-woo!)
The trash stalls Keiichi lands in (marked flammable and non-flammable) is a recyling station. Wood and paper goes in the flammable side, plastics and metals are in the non-flammable side. Keiichi crashed in the side with the harder, sharper objects.
911 is not an emergency number in Japan. What Sora is refering to in the Japanese text are emergency procedure numbers in the community disaster response handbook. (There are guideline procedures for fires, floods, earthquakes, car crashes, injuries, heart attacks, etc.)
When Keiichi drives off the ledge and crashes into the recycling bin, he's saved from serious injury by Holy Bell spinning an air cushion for him to land on. But why was she there to save him in the first place? Belldandy is at the finish line in the parking lot, talking to the other club members and waiting for the race to finish, and Holy Bell should be with her. Unless . . .
Maybe Belldandy had already split off a copy of herself at the start of the race and had been keeping an eye on Keiichi, just in case. (The rules of competition are sacred, but she also has a prior commitment to take care of Keiichi.) Which is why she was in a position to dispatch Holy Bell just in time to save him. And also how she knew instantly that Urd had put a spell on Keiichi.
Which would mean she might also have known about Urd kissing Keiichi, but had dismissed it as just the method Urd used to get the spell into him. (So it was probably a good thing K-1 didn't finish saying "incredible kiss". Bell might have reconsidered just how harmless it was and gotten a little jealous.)
As an additional observation, I don't think that angels can be multipled, only the goddesses. As a seperate entity the angel would need to copied seperately and giving each mini-goddess their own angel would be just a bit too much power out there. Rather, I think its more likely that the angel can manifest itself through any one of the copies as needed. Thus, if mini-Bell needs Holy Bell to save Keiichi, she can summon her, but then Bell back at the parking lot cannot while mini-Bell is using her at the recycling center.
Part 8 - The Best Magic Dark Horse issue 112, Sept. 2004 release Aberrant Kiss The Strongest Magic Kodansha chapt. 126, Feb. 1999 release Kodansha chapt. 127, Mar. 1999 release Tankouban Vol. 20
Dark Horse issue 112 contains both Kodansha chapter 126 and 127 Chapter 126 is split between Dark Horse issue 111 and 112. Chapter 126 ends after Belldandy leaves Keiichi to fix his racing board and continue the race.
It was fitting that Dark Horse would celebrate its long established habit of recombining Kodansha manga chapters with its last two comic book issue releases.
When Belldandy and Holy Bell leave Keiichi after he wakes up, they transport themselves through a piece of chromed metal (a mirrored surface).
So Keiichi re-invents the motorized skate board with just the items in his pockets. Now that's a mechanic! I wonder if Mr. Fujishima wanted a chance to do a skateboard montage without making it look like that was what he wanted to do.
It's interesting to note that since the sign says "NO BIKES OR CYCLES" Keiichi is not actually breaking any rules since what he's riding doesn't fit either of those catagories.
As is revealed at the end of this story, a hidden sub-plot of this arc was how mercantile Chihiro can be. Her plot to use the Motor Club's race as an advertising stunt to sell the racing boards is foreshadowed by the scene in the first part of the story where we see how fast Chihiro can put on her "Salesperson Face" and Keiichi's comments on how she can "Turn It On." Later there are hints that she's doing something on her own behind the scenes, then we see she's got Tamiya and Otaki in Whirlwind coats at the check points, but doesn't want Keiichi or Sora to see the coats. Finally, at the end we discover they've been handing out sales brochures, that the race had been advertised as a sales stunt, and that Chihiro has already made a sign exploiting Keiichi's emergency conversion to a motorized skateboard as a sales feature.
This doesn't mean she wasn't honestly trying to help Sora and the NIT-MCC resolve their leadership crisis. It's quite obvious she was. It's just that its also being shown that she's not above using this as an opportunity to further her own mercantile efforts as well.
Kurthy133 Question and Answer
Tim, since you had some speculations about the cover illustration involving Sora's shirt in Part One of the Sora Unchained arc, I was wondering if you had any ideas about Bell's shirt in the cover illustartion of Part Two (39 hat and all.) It is much harder to read, but I figured that if anyone might know, it would be you!
While there might be some significance to the 39, I'm not aware of any. In general what she's wearing seems to be a fairly typical example of race crew wear.
In almost any motorized vehicle race (and many others as well) in Japan where there's enough money available for such things, the support team for a racer is dressed in similar, stylized, color coordinated, semi-casual clothes, often with the name of the sport, the racer's name or number, and the event or team's sponsers on them. (This is common for most professional sports around the world.)
What Belldandy is wearing seems pretty close to what other manga and anime characters I've seen wear at such events (including in the earlier AMG manga and OAV stories.) The board is a lap board where the driver's time is recorded for each lap and held up so the drivers can see how they're doing, Whatever that logo on the shoes is, it's probably a parody of some real sneaker label. And the visible lettering on her sleeve starts with a "G" and ends with "RT", the rest being to my eyes unreadable. While in no way defendable, I'd guess it reads "Go-Cart".
Now, did you notice that Belldandy seems to be wearing the same shirt while sitting on the motorcycle two stories later? The printing on the sleeve is either missing or not visible, but the shirt back has what appears to be "Team Hasagawa" printed on it.

2023.06.03 06:48 cowsandcocoa [Fully Lost] A lost children's book based on The Cramp Twins, an early 2000s UK Cartoon network Show
There is a book called "The Cramp Twins: Lucien's Little Book of Love/Whats with Wayne". The book series/cartoon is by Brian Wood. The only identifier of its existence is on a few book cataloging websites, such as
Goodreads,
PaperBackSwap,
AbeBooks and
BetterWorldBooks.
I cannot find any listings on any shopping websites, wikipedia, or even a synopsis of what the book is about however. I am not sure if it is its own book or perhaps another version of an existing book in the series,
A Trip to Twinsanity(also...Look how much it is now! The book is 61 dollars since it is out of print.)
It makes me think that perhaps not many copies were printed. This book appears to have been published in 2005, and the cartoon itself was canceled in 2006 by Cartoon Network. Perhaps the timing has something to do with why this book became lost. Ebay is where I was able to find the other 3 books for this series.
This is the first book, published in 1995 before it got its own cartoon, The second book,
Swamp Fever, which was made after it became a cartoon network show, and
A Trip to Twinsanity, the third book.
Unfortunately, I have not seen a single picture or inkling of this 4th books existence other than the art cover, its title and some publisher information on the book catalog websites I linked in the first paragraph. I really love this show and it is the one book I am missing from my collection. I would feel happy if any leads were found. I figured posting here was my best shot.
Also as a curiosity... is the Brian Woods who created the Cramp twins the same as the one who worked on Marvel comics? Finding information on the Cramp Twins is very very difficult in general despite the fact that the cartoon itself has every episode available, and the 3 other published books are fairly well documented/available to purchase even.
EDIT: There is a possible 5th lost book called High Noon in Soap City!!
I just found this on amazon with no book cover. This puzzle gets more and more difficult as I look more into it.

Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming to Netflix?
Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is coming to Netflix approximately in December 2023.
In 2021, Sony and Netflix signed a five-year deal that gave the latter exclusive first-pay-window U.S. streaming rights for Sony Pictures titles after their theatrical and home entertainment windows. Fans can expect to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix six months after the film’s theatrical release, thus in December 2023. The date seems reasonable considering that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse dropped on Netflix on June 26, 2019, six months after its U.S. release on December 14, 2018. The pay-one window usually begins about nine months after a film’s theatrical release, but it might start earlier in particular cases.
This post will be updated once there is a 100% officially confirmed Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Netflix release date.
When Will Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Be Available On Netflix?
Regarding when the film will be available on Netflix, the answer is less definitive. The first film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, began streaming six months after its theatrical release. Based on this, it is safe to assume Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see a similar gap between its cinematic and streaming releases. Given the film's theatrical release of June 2, 2023, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will likely begin streaming on Netflix in December 2023.
This tracks with some of Sony's bigger releases of 2022. Films like Uncharted and Bullet Train were released on Netflix six and five months respectively after their release in theaters. Of course, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse could have other elements that see it release before or after this tentative six-month period, such as underperforming or exceeding expectations at the box office. Although, based on Sony's track record - including that of the first film - Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse can be expected on Netflix in the winter of 2023, likely December for a holiday release.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming to Disney Plus?
Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is also coming to Disney Plus approximately in 2025.
Once the pay-one window runs its time and Netflix’s exclusive rights expire, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on Disney Plus. The pay-one window might last as long as 18 months, which means it will be a while before Disney Plus subscribers can watch the much-anticipated sequel. Unlike in other countries, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn’t yet available on the Disney-owned streamer in the U.S.
American fans will have to wait until 2024 to watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and at least until 2025 for its sequel. We will update this post once there is an official Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Disney Plus release date.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse comes from a joint effort of directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. The movie will swing into theaters on June 2, featuring the return of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, among others.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be On HBO Max?
No, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Available On Hulu?
Viewers are saying that they want to view the new animation movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

2023.06.03 06:38 TheEtiquetteBltch TW: CSAM description in episode 4
TLDR - skip entire minute 4 in episode 4 to avoid the document showing description of CSAM.
Im sorry if this has been discussed in other threads or posts, but I just want to put a trigger warning out there for the very descriptive CSAM documents.
I understand the documentary lists a trigger warning but I hadn't thought it would describe very, very specific and upsetting details. If you have managed to go this long without seeing the description, and wish to continue to not know the specifics, please skip the 4 minute mark of episode 4.

What do you want? If it's summers Shirt/Tees and Jeans/Pant is the combo for 99% of Guys. Also you'll boil down if I point out girls clothing so you should not poke guys for it too.
> If you have so much problem with makeup, then don’t wear it?? Let other people wear it atleast.
Well Wearing makeup is one thing and changing your whole complexion is another. If it enhances your beauty (I doubt if you got in first place) then it's fine and I can vouch on behalf of men that nobody objects but if you change yourself completely on Tinder and IRL you're Different then it's on you. You think Male population is against Lipsticks? Stfu!

Well are your Jokes funny? Because we can see How entertaining Female comedians are in general and how much Girls ask Guys to be Funny but vice versa just wants to laugh and got no contribution . So sorry if some Guys didn't met your expectations.

Here you pretty much showed How height only Applicable to Guys which means in this Universe, there are some certain things which are applicable to Girls too, Like Height, Abs, Funny, Rich. Oh! Same to you. Please work on your Brain for now. I bet you got no personality because you borrowed yours from an american teen drama.

As usual borrowed personality from somebody you watched on screen. That bald guy is Misogynist, not incel. Just correcting you bcoz someone needs to asap.
>Stop with the constant need for sharing your thoughts and unwanted beliefs on poor girls (and the whole reddit audience)who literally don’t give a flying fuck about you or your bullshit opinions.
Well we give a Fuck. Why you girls wrote whole ass paragraphs and at the end you're like "We don't give a Fuck"? What's this constant need to contradict yourself. You probably hate us or don't like us but you care B1tch. Stop acting Bad Bitch. Chandni chowk se hai tu!
>I know I'm being quite extreme, but some of you needs to touch some grass…actually a whole forest
You're not extreme. You're extremely low intellect narcissist who just wants Guys to improve but lost your shit when somebody probably told you about not to eat at Mcd.
Men accepts you even if you're slightly beautiful because of your genes . You literally sometimes do nothing. If we start asking for girls to be certain height, you'll realize that no matter what you do, you can't change it but for some reason you're constantly getting mocked for it too. You can change your weight but see how much depressed you get if someone mocks you for it.

2023.06.03 06:32 AutoModerator Here's How To Watch "The Little Mermaid" (2023) Streaming Online Free FOr [Reddit] At Home
‘The Little Mermaid’ is finally here. Find out how to watch Disney's latest live-action adaptation animated film The Little Mermaid online for free.Walt Disney Studios has established a remarkable trend of making live-action remakes of its classic stories. One after the other, all the fairytales of the past era are being brought to life by the studio in an attempt to tell the magical stories in a new light of living characters.
Download ⭆🛑⭆Watch Now: The Little Mermaid (2023) Movie Online Free Download ⭆🛑⭆Watch Now: The Little Mermaid (2023) Movie Online Free Get ready to go "under the sea!" The latest of Disney's hugely successful line of live-action remakes, Ariel (Halle Bailey) is set to return to theaters for the first time in almost thirty-five years with The Little Mermaid (2023). The Walt Disney Company once again invites audiences to travel under the sea to see Princess Ariel's story unfold like never before. Featuring direction from veteran musical filmmaker Rob Marshall and other roles inhabited by major Hollywood stars like Melissa McCarthy as Ursula the Sea Witch and Javier Bardem as King Triton, the film is bound to be a bona fide hit at the box office.
Though the upcoming and highly anticipated film will have stiff competition against two stand-up comedians on the weekend it releases, The Little Mermaid is destined to show that life is better down where it's wetter under the sea this Summer movie season. To find showtimes and streaming information on Disney's latest big-budget reimagining of an animated classic, here is where you can watch The Little Mermaid.
The new Little Mermaid is diving into theaters with a sparkling live-action look, three new original songs and a total treasure trove of a cast. Starring Halle Bailey as the fiery-haired Ariel who swaps sea for sand, Melissa McCarthy as the iconically villainous half-octopus Ursula, Jonah Hauer-King as Eric, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and the delightfully odd coupling of Daveed Diggs and Awkwafina as Sebastian and Scuttle, the live-action remake of the 1989 animated classic Disney Princess film is certainly going to make a splash. Longing to be part of Ariel’s world? You won’t need to bargain with a sea witch to make it happen. Here’s how to watch the new Little Mermaid, plus where to stream the classic Little Mermaid movie, The Little Mermaid sequels and more.
What Is the Release Date for The Little Mermaid?
Ariel's quest to go from a mermaid into a human begins anew when The Little Mermaid premieres this Memorial Day Weekend on Friday, May 26th, 2023. The film will be going up against not one, but two stand-up comedians and their films that weekend, with Sebastian Maniscalco's About My Father and Bert Kreischer's The Machine premiering on the same day. That said, The Little Mermaid will almost certainly be the choice for younger audiences and families.
While some Disney films are heading straight to Disney+, The Little Mermaid will first be shown exclusively in theaters.
Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon, Vudu, YouTube or Apple, or become available to stream on Disney+.

How to Watch The Little Mermaid
There's been no official announcement regarding The Little Mermaid's streaming release date, though we know it will eventually be released on Disney+, rather than Netflix or HBO Max.
It's difficult to guess when to expect The Little Mermaid on Disney+, as the company hasn't been consistent with its streaming-release cadence; its past five live-action reimaginings were released directly onto Disney+. The company has brought the last few Marvel movies to streaming within two-three months, however, which potentially puts The Little Mermaid on Disney+ between July 26 and August 26.
The Little Mermaid will be shown exclusively in theaters. We expect the movie to come to Disney+, but based on Disney's past release models, the film won't be made available to stream before 45 to 90 days after its theatrical release.
Will The Little Mermaid Be in Theaters or on Streaming?
Unlike several of Disney's other live-action remakes such as Pinocchio and Peter Pan & Wendy, The Little Mermaid will be exclusively in movie theaters first with tickets available for pre-sale now.

What is The Little Mermaid About?
The official synopsis for The Little Mermaid by Walt Disney Studios read:
“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
There is not much mystery in The Little Mermaid's plot. As seen in Disney's many other live-action remakes, it is anticipated that the film's plot will largely stick to the original. With the well-known song "Part of Your World," in which Ariel sings about her wish to be a part of the world beyond the water, i.e., the human realm, the teaser already alluded to Ariel's fascination with the human world. Fans will get to see Ariel and Prince Eric's romance as they deal with the challenges posed by their differences.

2023.06.03 06:11 DeathReaper130 Dallas Wings Game #5 Analysis
In this post as the title states, I'll be recapping and giving my analysis on what I noticed with the Dallas Wing's 4th game today which was against the Washington Mystics. Sorry about the post being a little late but I had to take a break from my computer after watching how that last minute of the game unfolded.
Part #1 - Offense:
Satou Sabally: Once again, she's the MVP of the team in today's game. She ended the game with a double double in 18 points and 14 rebounds. She was also close to a triple double as she had 7 assists in the game. Sabally was amazing on the offensive end today. Not only did she tie Arike for a team high 18 points but she also led the team with 7 assists. She was literally doing everyone on the floor today and had some crucial buckets to extend the Wings' lead at certain moments of the game. There's nothing really much more that I can say about her as I thought she had close to a perfect game. If she hit that corner three for the game winner, that would have been icing on the cake but it was a good try nevertheless. She'd be the person that I want shooting that final shot in a do or die situation like that anyways.
Arike Ogunbowale: As stated above, Arike tied Sabally for a team high 18 points. The biggest thing that I like about Arike this game however was her 6 assists. She seemed to take a bit more time on offensive possessions this game which was a good thing. There were moments where I thought Arike would have taken the shot considering that's what she'd normally do but she held back, analyzed the situation, and make the right decision whether it was to shoot the ball or pass it away. She got her teammates involved today and did a little bit less of her usual hero ball type of game. There were still moments where she tried to chuck shots up but at this point, I don't think that's ever going to change for the Wings and they just have to play around Arike like that. The one thing I wished Arike did however this game was to take less threes. For the most part of the game, the game was going back and forth with the Wings leading for most of the part only by a few. Despite this, Arike continued to chuck up threes at certain moments for no reason. Especially when your team has the lead by a few, the best thing to do is to slow the ball down and analyze where the best option to score was. In these situations however, Arike sometimes failed to do this and as a result gave over free possessions to the Mystics. Despite this, I think Arike played better overall compared to last game. She relied more on her team, made good decisions sometimes, and wasn't as eager this game to chuck up every shot opportunity she had.
Natasha Howard: I thought Howard did fine this game. She ended the game with 16 points and 13 rebounds which was a double double. She got some crucial buckets for the Wings which helped to keep them in the game. She definitely did have some trouble with Shakira Austin and Elena Delle Donne in the paint however so that was her biggest weakness. Howard ended up going 2-8 from inside the paint today (25%). Thus, she ended up mostly playing around the perimeter which wasn't that helpful as she went 2-8 from beyond the arc (25%). Overall, today was not Howard's best game but she still managed to contribute to the team offensively as much as she could.
Rest Of The Team: Crystal Dangerfield was ice cold from the field today, going 1-7 (14.29%) from the floor and scoring only 3 points. While much of the scoring on the Wings is expected from the Big 3 of Sabally, Howard, and Arike, the rest of the team still needs to step up their game offensively. No one else besides the Big 3 scored more than 6 points which wasn't a good sight to see. Kalani Brown also went 0-4 from the field but that's a whole different thing which I'll be getting into later on in the post. Dickey gave a decent spark from the bench with 6 points and went 3-3 from the floor (100%). Siegrist and Burton also hit a couple of shots as well. Overall, no one else on the Wings really stepped up scoring wise asides from making one or two baskets so that was not a good thing.
Part #2 - Reasons Why The Wings Lost
I had to put this part second since these were really important to note going forward.
Officiating: Normally, I don't complain about officiating but this is by far one of the worst officiated games which I've seen this season. I don't mind if the referees want to call fouls but my only thing its that if it's called on one end of the court, it has to be equally called on the other end of the court. A majority of the calls, in this game however, were in favor of the Mystics tonight and it was not even close. By the end of the game, the total number of fouls was 25 to the Wings and 17 to the Mystics. Now you might argue that it's only 8 fouls and it wouldn't have made a difference anyways. The Wings had a total of 16 free throws this game while the Mystics had a whopping 31 free throws. That's nearly double the number of free throws that the Mystics took when compared to the Wings. On defense, the Wings were getting some pretty terrible calls, especially for shooting fouls when the defenders hands were straight up in most instances. Furthermore, blocking fouls were called at a much higher rate in favor of the Mystics than the Wings, causing them to get into the bonus very early on. For reference, the Mystics as a team scored 46 points from just shots alone from the field. The other 29 points came from three throws. The Mystics ended up scoring more than a third of their team's total points from free throws alone. Now once again, I'm not saying that every call was in favor of the Mystics. While some calls were in fact fouls on the Wings' end, a majority were just empty fouls called against the Wings but not against the Mystics at the same rate. Furthermore for reference, both Sabally and Arike are top 10 in the league this season for free throw attempts er game, averaging about 5 free throw attempts per game. Both of them had 2 each in today's game and this game was probably the most aggressive game in the paint for both of them during this entire season so far. Ariel Atikins on the Mystics today took only one shot in the paint, which wasn't called for a foul, and ended up getting 7 free throws this game, three of which came from a fouled three pointer where she actually was fouled. The thing which sealed the deal for me was when one of the referees called a foul on Sabally with 0.2 seconds left in the game while the game was already pretty much over as the Mystics were up 75-74 with the ball in their control. After video review however, they dropped the foul call and just ended the game. But just the fact that they called a foul with 0.2 seconds left in the game which was already over and then went to the replay both to review the call and to then just drop it tells enough about it. Officiating definitely had a huge impact on how the game ended how it ended.
Kalani Brown: The thing that upset me the most in today's game for the Wings was Kalani Brown. She ended up going 0-4 from the field and that was the worst thing tonight. What made matters even worse was that about 3 of these shots were right under the basket with mismatch defenders on her. She's standing at 6'7 while 5'9 Brittney Sykes was guarding her on one play and 5'9 Natasha Cloud was guarding her on two other plays. She's almost a foot taller than both and couldn't put in a few easy tip in shots while standing right under the basket and with no Elena Delle Donne and Shakira Austin nearby.
Part #3 - Defense:
I won't split this part up into player by player as I normally do because this was the best defense so far that the Wings have played and it wasn't an individual effort, it was a team effort. Everyone playing very well on defense today. Sabally was holding her own against Shakira Austin. Natasha Howard was giving trouble to Elena Delle Donne. Kalani Brown did alright on defense but her presence was enough to have the Mystics double guess what kind of shots they take with her around. Burton did extremely well on defense in terms of applying constant perimeter pressure. Both her and Sabally ended with 3 steals each as well. This defense is exactly what I think the Wings can replicate day in and day out and they will be the scariest team in the league if they can. I'll share the defensive breakdowns of each zone so that everyone can truly understand how good the Wings' defense was today.
Dallas Wing's Defensive Shot Breakdown: I've mentioned this in a couple of posts but I've noticed a pattern in the WNBA which I call the 50-30-20 rule. Essentially, this means that 50% of all shots taken and points scored by a team are in the paint, 30% of all shots taken and points scored by a team are in the mid-range, and 20% of all shots taken and points scored by a team are from behind the arc. Therefore, I'll be listing how the Dallas Wings' defense affected from where the Mystics were forced to take their shots and score their points from just like in my previous game analysis.
Paint: 8 - 23 - 38.98% of all shots taken and 34.78% of all points scored (not with free throws)
Mid Range: 3 - 13 - 22.03% of all shots taken and 13.04% of all points scored (not with free throws)
Three Point: 8 - 23 - 38.98%% of all shots taken and 52.17% of all points scored (not with free throws)
By looking at this breakdown, we can see how great the Wings' defense actually did today. The very first thing which is noticeable is the paint defense. According to my 50-30-20 rule, keeping a team under 50% in terms of points scored and shots taken in the paint is a very good job for the defense. What makes this Wings defense today much more extraordinary is that they managed to keep the Mystics to under 40%. That is spectacular defense. In the WNBA, a team's defense almost never holds the opposing team to under 40% shooting from inside the paint. Yet, that's exactly what the Wings were able to do again. Honestly, that metric alone is enough to show how dominant the Wings' defense was today. I can't recall any other game where a team gets held to shooting under 40% of all shots taken from inside the paint and under 35% of all points scored from inside the paint and still win the game. The next evident thing in the breakdown is the three point range. The Wings forced the Mystics to take a much higher than average shots from beyond the arc. That's also another huge win for the defense. According to my 50-30-20 rule, the average WNBA team gets only 20% of its points and shots taken from beyond the arc. The Wings were able to force the Mystics to end up shooting almost 40% of their shots from beyond the arc and get a bit more than 50% of their points from beyond the arc. That's actually once again amazing defense. The Wings forced the Mystics to take lower quality shots from farther out and this ended up outweighing their paint and mid range scoring.
Final Recap: Overall, this game was disappointing for the Wings in terms of an officiating standpoint. A majority of the calls went against the Wings and not equally against the Mystics. This led to the Mystics shooting 31 free throws and this was the main reason the Mystic were able to come back in the first place. They were forced to take much less shots in the paint and much more shots from behind the arc. Furthermore from both areas, the Mystics shot just above 33%. Yet with the free throws, they were able to overcome their disasters on the offense and win the game. Now once again, I'm not saying that the officiating was the sole reason why the Wings lost. I am saying that it was a huge part why the Mystics were able to come back in the game. The Wings also had some plays and issues of their own which they did bad on. Kalani Brown not making a single basket under the rim against defenders who she was about a foot taller than was very poor. Another example is Jasmine Dickey fouling Ariel Atkins while she took a three pointer and the ball was already out of her hands when the score was 70-70 and the game had only 24 seconds left. Atkins' shot was already well off course but Dickey fouling her gave the Mystics a 3 point lead after Atkins hit all the free throws. Furthermore, Sabally wasn't able to hit a decently open three which would have probably won the game for the Wings. The Wings could have definitely won the game if some of those actions and mistakes were changed. Overall, I don't think the Wings as a whole should feel disappointed in themselves at all this game. They were big underdogs in a road game and almost won the game. Their defense was outstanding today and their offense was also pretty good overall. With today's loss, the Wings are now 3-2 in the season and they play the Connecticut Sun, who are a really good team, in 2 days. Should be interesting to see how that game goes and hopefully the Wings can win.

2023.06.03 06:04 WombatHat42 Anyone else watching The Days?
Curious who else is watching it and your thoughts so far?
I’m a little over halfway through the season(episode 5). While I was hoping for something more like Chernobyl, it could be worse. It feels more like a made for tv movie from the 90s like Night of the Twisters - entertaining but lots of room for improvement. The director also really loves slow mo cuz they will randomly switch to slow no cuts that seem out of place(maybe that’s a Japanese style I’m unaware of?). The dubbing is at least someone synced up but the voice acting isn’t very good, and probably my biggest gripe of the show. I wish production companies would invest a little more in their voice acting.
