2023.06.05 01:37 DevTheWarriorXV Homebrew 5e Spell (Inspired by Diablo’s Corpse Explosion feature)
I’m currently working on a spell for my Necromancer character Perun, this is a rough draft for what I had in mind.
I’m struggling on whether or not to make it a 5th level spell instead, due to scaling potential, all feedback is welcome!
Perun’s Rite Of Violence
4th-level necromancy Casting Time: Action Range: 60 ft (15 ft sphere) Components: V, S, M (A corpse within range) Duration: Instantaneous Attack/Save: DEX Save
Every corpse created as a result of a violent death carries with it the anguish of its final moments. With this spell the caster is able to call upon those energies and focus them into a single violent force, this force then expels itself from the carcass with such power that it causes a dramatic explosion.
You target the corpse of a creature that has been dead for no longer than 1 minute, is not undead or a construct, and of at least small size, that you can see within range. Each creature within a 15 foot radius sphere centered on that corpse must make a Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 3d6 necrotic damage and 3d6 force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Additionally, all non-magical items on or worn by the corpse, as well as the corpse itself are destroyed. The size of the explosion increases by 5 feet for every size larger than small. •Medium (20 ft radius) •Large (25ft radius) •Huge (30ft radius) •Gargantuan (35ft radius)
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, you can pick an additional corpse within range. The spell deals an additional 1d6 necrotic damage or 1d6 force damage (your choice) for each slot level above 4th. Targets hit by more than one explosion only take half damage from all but the first.

2023.06.05 01:30 SimsPlayer2765 [For Info: ] Installing Custom Content and Mods:
You can find Nraas Mods here: (
https://www.nraas.net) The site not only has various mods but it has a lot of useful information on how to install the mods and configure and use them.
Here are some detailed notes:
Mods and custom content work in the same way in the EA App that they do with the Disc, Steam and Origin versions. Nothing has changed in that part of the game.
Custom content comes both in .package and .Sims3Pack files.
.Sims3Pack files get added to the Downloads folder: (\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads)
Open the Sims 3 launcher > Downloads tab, select all and click Install. It's highly recommended to install .Sims3Pack files in small batches of 10 or less and worlds one at a time.
.Sims3Pack files are the only ones that will show up correctly in the launcher, as it can't read .package files.
.package files get added to the mods\packages folder: (\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages)
Some players feel the .package format is safer and easier to install. Mostly because the Sims 3 launcher is not very reliable. It's known to not be able to handle large amount of files.
(Example Mods folder Screenshot >
https://i.imgur.com/hXLY75T.jpg)
How to Get Mods to Work: It depends on the mods. Some mods will just work automatically, some you might have to alter settings but the website where you got the mod from should have instructions...
Some mods and custom content need to be extracted with 7zip (
https://www.7-zip.org/) or another extracting tool and need to then be placed into (\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages) depending on how you have your mods folder setup.
There have been some players reporting that they've had issues downloading the mods framework from ModtheSims. If you have problems downloading, either try right-click file and press open in new tab and it starts the download or try a different browser, for example Firefox.

ModtheSims: Installing Sims 3 Package Files: Setup & Files [FrameworkSetup.zip] (
https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_3_Package_Files/Setup_and_Files)
If that doesn't work, you can read how to create a new folder or download a created mods folder, from the post linked below.

How to Add Mods to The Sims 3 - Text w/Photos Tutorial: (

。ꕥ 。ꕥ 。ꕥ 。
I use 7-zip to extract the files: (
https://www.7-zip.org/) - Right-click file > Extract to: name of folder. is usually how I unzip files.
Here's where some of the custom content can be copied to:
▪︎ Custom Content: (Haioutfits/objects/jewelry/makeup) [Install to: Mods\Packages] C:\Users
\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages
▪︎ Households/Lots: [Install to: Library folder] C:\Users\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Library
You can organize your mods and custom content by folder. Here's an example:
C:\Users\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages\MTS (ModtheSims) C:\Users\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages\Nraas
Or even...
C:\Users\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages\Clothes C:\Users\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages\Accessories
Creating/renaming subfolders within the Mods folder won't affect your game.
There are some limits to how many subfolders deep you can go: (https://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Organizing_Custom_Content#Subfolder)
It's better to merge packages to use in your game and have the loose package files organized in your backups. It's faster to read data from a few large files than lots of little ones, so having a bunch of package files can cause lag.
There are several video tutorials on how to merge CC. Here's one of them.
How To: Merge Your Custom Content -Using S3PE: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIZ2LdoT-HY)
How To: Install CC in CC Magic: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTXYAuiHEdw)
。ꕥ 。ꕥ 。ꕥ 。
Note on Mods Folder Size:
When I did have a "large" size mods folder it did affect my game in loading/saving, lag, freezing and crashing.
Some players say a rule of thumb is the more content you add to your game the more the game has to work in processing that content. Which includes mods, custom content, store content, expansions and stuff packs.
However, it also depends on what computer you have (laptop or desktop) it's specs, and how much you and it can handle.

2023.06.05 01:00 CyclonusDecept Alternator issue (suburban)?
2002 chevy suburban 5.3 v8 1500 z71. Truck has 88k miles. I just replaced all the sparkplugs, wires, coils and the alternator. Alternator is ac delco new from amazon. Parts store didn't have the right serpentine belt in stock so i put the original one back on.
Started the truck just fine and let it run for 10 minutes. I hear a whirring noise that I think is coming from the alternator that I don't think was there before (not sure since I haven't driven the truck since November and even then rarely drove it).
I noticed the alternator is pretty hot to the touch. Alternator reads 12.6 volts when off and battery reads 12.5 v. When the truck is running alternator reads 14.6 and battery is 14.5 volts.
Just wondering if this is normal. Haven't driven the truck yet other than just pulling forward and backward slightly in the garage.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

2023.06.05 00:59 totallytoless242 I’m a Single Mom, so I Get to Run an Illegal AirBnB - Bad Neighbor Chronicles
Now that the Tish saga is done, it's time to move on to our landlord's retribution. This is a long one because I don't want to divide the story. TL;DR at the end.
Hubby and I lived in this apartment complex from 2016-2019. Until 2018, the apartment next to Tish's was rented by a Dominican couple who (apart from the Colosseum they erected in their living room every weekend for televised boxing matches) were very nice. So, Hubby and I were kind of bummed when the couple decided that they'd had enough of our complex. They came home one day to find at their doorstep a big-ass rat the size of a cat snacking merrily on some KFC bones that had dropped from Tish's garbage can. I would also argue that the couple probably found it hard to sleep with Tish's headboard slapping against their bedroom wall all weekend long (cue Vybez Kartel & Spice).
We were further disappointed when we realized they were being replaced by a mother and her two daughters. It's not that I don't like kids. I just that Jay wasn't exactly a model for confidence.
The family was quiet and timid, but it was clear they had problems. Big problems. According to what Tina would tell me in "casual" conversations in the laundry room, she had once sat upon her parents’ very high pedestal and - by her own account - had been violently shoved from that pedestal when she found herself pregnant with her first daughter. She'd tried to climb another very high pedestal and managed to stay there long enough to marry and have her second child, but "the cheating dog" had kicked Tina from the apex of prosperity to the pits of impoverishment once more. Heavy shit for laundry room talk.
But, it was hard to sympathize with Tina. The girls, unfortunately, seemed to understand all too well that they were Tina’s “burden”. The teenager (Mel) was ferrety and surly - which some would say is normal for a 15yo - but do 15yos spank their own sisters? Not fight - spank. As a parent would. And the 8yo, while sweet, tore through boundaries like acrylic nails through cheap toilet paper.
Tish immediately hated Tina because there was only enough room in this complex for one shit show at a time. Every time I saw Tish and Tina pass one another around the complex, the air would grow cold and the birds would flee to the West.
But, Tish and Jay left not long after Tina and her girls moved in. If y’all are looking for the catfight of the century, I am so sorry, but I must disappoint you. Jay's father returned from graduate school and got primary custody of Jay. That meant Tish was no longer entitled to child support, and she couldn't afford the apartment anymore. Hubby and I sacrificed a goat to the Most High in gratitude.
But then a few weeks after Tish and Jay left, Hubby and I noticed strange noises coming from the apartment upstairs. It should have been empty, but we heard chairs dragging against the floor at all hours of the evening. I called our landlord and asked if anyone had moved in, but she told us, "No."
"But there is someone upstairs," I told her. She dismissed me. Said there was no one up there.
Then why, only a few nights after that, was the security gate to Tish's old apartment open? And why were the lights on?
I called our landlord, but our landlord told me to take it easy, which was nice speak for "Leave me alone, you paranoid dumbfuck.”
Well, Hubby was sure some hobo was shacking up in Tish’s old apartment, which was highly likely considering where we lived. Our former apartment complex rests within one of the only remaining residential nooks in a fast-growing bacchanal city. On the street to the north is a string of touristy restaurants. On the street to the south is the sleaziest bar in five miles, and on the street to the right was a brothel masquerading as an AirBnB. It never once crossed my mind that the girls in 6-inch heels, batty riders, and lashes out to Wednesday walking up and down the road at 1:00 a.m. might were “working”…
Anyway, Hubby decided to go check on the apartment upstairs, and lo - the security gate and front door were both unlocked. Hubby figured Tish or our landlord must have left the doors open by accident, which allowed whoever the hell it was dragging chairs over our heads to enter the vacant apartment. I passed this knowledge on to our landlord, who assured me that she’d send a locksmith to change the locks.
It was an evening after the locksmith changed the locks that Hubby and I came home late to find ourselves face-to-face with the intruder upstairs. At the door to Tish’s old apartment was Mel. With her was a man who, though young, was clearly older than Mel, picking at the security gate lock.
When Mel saw us, she jumped so high she nearly took down some shingles from the roof. The young man, however, bid us a very cordial good evening. Then, he finished picking the locks to the doors and entered the apartment. Yes, my dear people. Mel had broken into the apartment upstairs and set up camp.
You better believe I called my landlord and told her about what we’d just seen. She was shocked. Was I sure that’s who I’d seen breaking into the apartment? Mel was such a mannerly, mature young woman. It must have been someone else! I guess I wasn't just a paranoid dumbfuck, but a blind one as well.
Anyway, a few days later, Mel and Tina started moving furniture into Tina’s apartment. They didn't say anything to us when they saw us. I wondered if I was the bad guy, but Hubby said no: I should call our landlord and report.
"Oh, don't worry about that. I told Tina that Mel could camp out there for a while."
What?
Well, friends, what happened was that our landlord called Tina to confront her about Mel breaking into the apartment. But then Tina told our landlord about her recent fall from grace and then lamented about the horrors of parenting a teenager all alone in a one-bedroom apartment. She cried so much that our landlord decided to make a deal. For $200 a month, Tina could rent the empty apartment for Mel under the condition that when a new tenant was found Mel would move out.
Okay, fine, I thought. If that's how you want to run your apartments, that's up to you. I'll stay out of your business next time.
And that's just what I did when I came home from work one day to find an American couple dressed in bathing suits trying to open the gate to the complex.
And I continued to do so the week after that when Hubby saw Mel cleaning the apartment while three Australian ladies grilled by the complex pool.
But, one night when a hooker knocked on our door, I'd had enough.
At first, I tried to give Tina and Mel the benefit of the doubt. Maybe this was something they had worked out with the landlord. Maybe this was actually the landlord playing her hand at AirBnB. So, I worded my texts carefully. Asked our landlord if she'd found a new tenant, since we'd seen some new people in the complex. If she'd been trying out short-term renting since so we noticed so many tourists roaming the complex. If she knew that there were strange people coming in and out every week. No reply.
Turns out we weren't the only tenants concerned - and ignored. Two of our other neighbors had also tried to contact our landlord to tell her about the strange tourists hanging bathing suits all over the fences and ordering "fair" company in the apartment above us. Our landlord, however, never responded to any of us. Didn't even blue tick.
By the time frat boys started renting the apartment, Hubby and I had had enough. We found a new apartment and gave notice. Oddly enough, our landlord got that message as soon as I sent it. She didn't bother asking us why we were moving out, and I didn't push the matter. I didn't even make a fuss when she didn't give us our security deposit back. In my city, it's rare you get that back anyhow.
But then a month later, I got a call from our old landlord. She said she'd assessed the apartment and found no damages, so she had our security deposit ready for us. I mean, money is money, and that was our money, so Hubby and I set a date to meet the landlord at the old place.
Our landlord was oddly chatty when we arrived. At first, we thought she was just excited because she was finally giving the complex a much-needed facelift. But then she started talking about Tina.
[Dramatization below]
Landlord: "Do you remember Tina?"
Hubby looks at me. I look at Hubby. “Of course."
Landlord: "Well, she doesn't live here anymore."
Crickets.
Landlord: "I evicted her."
Quizzical eyebrows.
Landlord: "You won't believe what she was doing."
Side eye-side eye.
Landlord: "Well, she was running an AirBnB! In the apartment right above you!"
Pikachu gasp: "No!"
Apparently, after we left, the landlord came to assess our apartment. When she entered the complex, who did she happen to run into?
A British couple in their bathing suits.
They asked her if she knew where the beach was, and the landlord gave them the directions in exchange for a glimpse at the AirBnB listing they'd contracted.
There it was - Tish's old apartment rented out at $800 a week!!! Take away the $200 a month Tina had arranged to rent the apartment, that was a $3000 profit!
The landlord confronted Tina, and as Tina packed her bags under the close supervision of a police officer, Tina railed on and on about how our landlord was being so cruel to a single mother. How could a fellow woman deny Tina the right to make a living for her girls? No one was using the apartment anyway! She'd sue, she sue for squatter's rights! She was a single mother!!!
So ends the Tina tale, but we have some extra credits. Our landlord realized how lucrative the AirBnB business could be, so she evicted all of the tenants and renovated the complex to open it up for short-term renting. That all came to an end when a 17yo boy drowned in the pool and the family sued the landlord for negligence.
All's well that end's well, eh?
TL;DR: Neighbor breaks into an empty apartment, manages to weasel the landlord into renting it to her for $200/month, and then sublets it on AirBnB for $800 a week!

2023.06.05 00:37 ginger_mamaof5 Hawk Decoy?
Caught a raven (crow?) stealing an egg out of the coop this morning. Is a Hawk decoy effective? My girls are free range and I keep the person sized door to the run open during the day and then shut them up at night. I've hung bird netting in the doorway with it short enough for the hens to come and go. I know the ravens will figure it out, but it will do until I have time to build a "doggy" door into the gate. Just wondered if anyone has had luck with a decoy.
Thanks!

[Intro] "It was a slight on my honor, so he deserved it!" "But we're talking about the most brilliant mind this world has ever seen." [Verse 1] I've got demons running 'round in my head
And they feed on insecurities I have
Won't you lay your healing hands on my chest?
Let your ritual clean
[Pre-Chorus] Soak the ropes with your holy water
Tie me down as you read out the words
[Chorus] Set me free from my jealousy
Won't you exorcise my mind?
Won't you exorcise my mind?
I want to be free as I'll ever be
Exorcise my mind
Help me exorcise my mind
[Verse 2] Desdemona, won't you liberate me?
When I'm haunted by your ancient history
Close these green eyes and watch over as I sleep
Through my darkest of dreams
[Pre-Chorus] Be the power to compel me
Hold me closer than anyone before
[Chorus] Set me free from my jealousy
Won't you exorcise my mind?
Won't you exorcise my mind?
I want to be free as I'll ever be
Exorcise my mind
Help me exorcise my mind
[Bridge] I should be thinking 'bout nothing else
When I'm with you, with you
Oh, I should be thinking 'bout nothing else
When I'm with you, with you
"Your mind exists somewhere altogether different... It lives in a world where feelings simply cannot be defined by words." [Chorus] Oh, set me free from my jealousy
Won't you exorcise my mind?
Won't you exorcise my mind?
I want to be free as I'll ever be
Exorcise my mind
Help me exorcise my mind

Won't you exorcise my mind?

2023.06.05 00:27 7deadlycinderella [Star Trek] The Wrath of Berman: how 90's Trek succeeded in spite of one poisonous executive
CW: for discussion of sexual harassment and some Trek spoilers
Star Trek. Virtually every SciFi fan knows it, even if they haven’t seen it. The 60’s born franchise has had an immeasurable influence on both the genre of science fiction, and on fandom culture.
Never an enormous hit, the original series (TOS in future discussions) gathered a cult audience, who thanks to a historically significant letter-writing campaign, got the show renewed for enough seasons that it was able to be sold into syndication. Because of this, as well as the follow up animated series on Saturday mornings (TAS- despite the cheap animation, included most of the same actors from TAS as well as many of the same writers) the fandom slowly grew, reaching mainstream size in the early 80’s, leading to the theatrical movies being written and released.
Because of the film series success, in the late 80’s, Paramount green-lit a follow up series, Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG), from original series creator Gene Roddenberry. The series was very popular among fans and earned several awards and nominations, as well as ramping up the careers of the cast, who while many were recognizable, were not yet household names (Patrick Stewart at the time was likely only considered a Shakespearean actor, and Levar Burton would be mostly recognized from Roots). This success led to multiple follow up Star Trek series overlapping through the 90’s- Star Trek Deep Space Nine (DS9), Voyager (VOY) and Enterprise (ENT) aired throughout the decade- each of the series on their own ran for seven seasons, except for Enterprise, which ran for four. 90’s Trek also had the unique attribute of a great deal of actors and crew working on it having been TOS fans in their early years. While TOS had the biggest pop culture impact of the franchise, 90’s Trek was when, along with the advent of the internet, the fandom really boomed exponentially. Most of Trek fandom now grew it’s roots in this decade. But all was not smooth sailing.
Even back in the 60’s, Trek had a tumultuous work environment behind the scenes (Not one but two actresses had affairs with series creator Roddenberry, Harlan Ellison once wrote an episode with the drama that doubtless brought to the table, etc), and this continued into the movie era, including Paramount kicking Roddenberry upstairs because of his work on the Motion Picture. Even among Trek fans, Roddenberry as a figure gives many fans mixed feelings. Some of his early edicts on Trek writing (such as no interpersonal conflict within the crew, as well as his edict of “no religion” because he was an atheist who felt humanity would grow out of religious belief, as well as strict adherence to “status quo is god”) have not aged well, as well as his impact on 90’s Trek (he hated Patrick Stewart and wanted him gone). Because of this, as well as Roddenberry’s increasing age and personal instability a Paramount executive was assigned to Trek to ensure all the usual executive and executive meddle-y things were followed: scripts were on time, directors didn’t go over budget, standards and practices were followed. This executive was Rick Berman, and throughout the decade, his actions would cause him to slowly, throughout the 00’s-10’s as more came out, making him arguably the most reviled figure in Trek fandom, entirely behind the scenes.
Early on, it was not due to untypical executive meddling. In the 90’s, TV was changing. Because of technology such as VCRs and early internet groups that encouraged tape-swapping, it was no longer completely necessary that every TV episode be solely self-contained, and many acclaimed series were playing with story arcs. However, this did not extend to Trek at first. TNG remained mostly episodic and multiple writers remarked that it was even difficult to allow the characters to change or display any development because of these restrictions (this is very apparent to modern viewers by such clunky arcs as the relationship between Riker and Troi). The famous Dominion War arc in DS9 that helped make it beloved by fans and quite influential in it’s own right, had to be fought endlessly to be allowed to continue with Berman and the execs by producer Ira Steven Behr, and the plans for a season-long VOY arc that eventually became the merely two-part Year From Hell, was vetoed by Berman not long after (a joke from a recent fan video includes the thesis that Berman was so busy ruining VOY and the TNG movies that he didn’t have enough time to ruin the end of DS9 too). This is all bog standard conservative executive stuff, but it managed to get worse.
One of the reasons TOS was so significant to 60’s audiences was because of it’s very ahead of it’s time treatment of cast diversity. While it wouldn’t be notable today, the original pilot featuring a woman as the Enterprise’s first officer and the rest of the series having both multiple female regular characters as well as multiple major characters of color was revolutionary.
This attitude of diversity did not continue into the 90’s Trek in regards to LGBTQIA+ characters. There were several episode written that dealt with issues metaphorically (one regarding an alien parasite as an AIDS metaphor, another with Wesley befriending a member of an alien species who could change sex at will), but 90% of these were vetoed out the door (the Outcast, one TNG episode that escaped this is terribly awkward to watch now- Jonathan Frakes flat out says that they should have had the courage to have Riker’s love interest in the episode played by a man). This extended to DS9 when the actors playing Garek and Dr Bashir, after several episodes laying on the HoYay extra thick because they interpreted their characters relationship as being romantic in nature (Robert Hewitt Wolf, a staff writer, has said recently on his Tumblr if the show were made now they would go for it), were told in no uncertain terms to cut it out, and the writers were instructed to stop giving them scenes together. Its easy just to dismiss this as “90’s network execs” in general, but multiple writers have recently put a name on it- this was 100% the work of Rick Berman, specifically.
An aside for the one episode of DS9 that escaped this, in which Jadzia Dax, played by Terry Farrell, encounters a former host’s (Dax is a species called a Trill symbiote- a sort of parasitic worm that moves from host to host, and hence has lived multiple full lives in different bodies) spouse and the two rekindle their feelings for each other despite their species taboo against continuing a previous host’s relationships with other hosted Trill. The fact that they are both currently hosted by women is never brought up. It featured only the sixth WLW kiss in US broadcast TV history, and in recent years, writers have confirmed Jadzia Dax as the franchise’s first pansexual character.
And Berman’s incredibly unprogressive influence continued past that, and at this point, it bled into the real world. There are multiple 90’s era stories of him being a bully to actors, such as preventing 14 year old Wil Wheaton from being able to take a movie role, and then cutting most of his role in the episode anyway, or being quite cruel to Denise Crosby on her last day of filming, but his misogyny came more and more to light as time went on.
Trek has a colored history with the actresses who work on it, spotted with stories like Grace Lee Whitney allegedly being let go from TOS after reporting a network exec who sexually assualted her, to Gates McFadden being basically fired from TNG season 2 because of a (Non-Berman) producer who disliked her rejecting his advances, before being coaxed back by Patrick Stewart for season 3 (As a fan, it wasn’t until DS9 that I felt like most of the female characters in the cast didn’t have “Girl” as one of their primary character traits). Terry Farrell’s exit from DS9, and her characters death as a result (writers have since written that they intended Jadzia to stay married to Worf and the pair to have children), was always reported to fans in the 90’s as being over contract negotiations, eventually revealed another side of Rick Berman’s influence on the franchise. Farrell has int he years since stated that Berman was absolutely vicious to her over the seasons regarding her figure, even making her get fitted for padded bras to make her more “voluptuous” for the character, as well as repeatedly making comments like “if you leave now, you’ll end up working at KMart”. Farrell, a former model, was not entirely unused to comments about her body, but she was appalled to hear them coming constantly from her boss, and also noting that the other Trek execs were never like this, and that the comments stopped when Berman was accompanied by another writer or exec. When her attempts to negotiate a contract that allowed her to drop down to guest star fell through, she left, something that must have been difficult, as like many involved in 90’s Trek, Farrell had been a fan since she was a little kid.
(Another aside- one could argue Farrell got the last laugh. Aside from being a well-liked character, she remained popular over the years at conventions, and in 2018 ended up marrying Leonard Nimoy’s son).
Farrell’s exit was one more incident among another in a long list of complaints regarding misogynistic treatment on set that has Berman’s fingerprints all over it, from Mariana Sirtis putting her foot down that she be allowed to wear a normal crew uniform on TNG instead of the one she had to wear a corset with, to Seven of Nine’s infamous catsuit on VOY to the much derided decontamination scenes in Enterprise (VOY and ENT have mostly been glossed over in this writeup- they could both have entire writeups of their own because of the amount of behind the scenes drama). Most of this came to an end when ENT ended, and while 90’s Trek has a great reputation among fans, the eventual consensus that has developed in later years is that it was in spite of Berman’s influence.
In later years, while Nu Trek (starting with Star Trek Discovery) has had more than it’s share of criticism from fans, most do seem relieved that Berman hasn’t returned and most of this criticism is in regards to writing/characters rather than the environment that the actors and writers found themselves in- this is best exemplified by several actors with negative experiences with Berman and others (including Gates McFadden, Robert Beltran and even Denise Crosby) being willing to make return appearances. Even Terry Farrell has commented that she’d love to play Jadzia again.

2023.06.05 00:06 Aware-Material507 A Robotic Overmind for a Dungeon 23
First Previous Taking a quick inventory of the current drones defending the home base and the mining outpost. In total I am left with one and a half patrol group of two ants and their escort of four total spider drones protecting the path to the mining outpost from the factory, a small home garrison of hornets, and the group of woodpecker lancers and the three fire beetles that I sent to the outpost. In addition in both the outpost and the main base house a repair team of spider drones that technically could count as combatants but I would rather not have to resort to that.
That certainly is not much to work with. At least compared to the attack party that is currently away from base. To combat the lack of drones currently on standby, I use another decent chunk of the stockpile to produce a batch of ten ants in the pair of medium drone works. Along with that I have the twin small drone works start producing two of the fire beetles and sixteen of the lancer drones.
As their fabrication progress meter ticks by, I have the spiders at the base, with the help of some enlisted hornets, start to create a makeshift barricade in the cleared out area around the factory. Hopefully it will make it slightly harder for ground based drones to attack the base and also make them easy targets for my hornet snipers while doing so. Watching them scurry about grabbing the larger, rectangular, and sturdier chunks of concrete from the pile.
Slowly but surely the C shaped wall of rubble grows tall enough that the patrol ants begin to have trouble climbing over. Of course the hornet and spider drones have no problem moving over the defenses seeing as one can literally fly and the other is meant for this kind of construction work. The pile of leftover rubble has shrunk from the size of a large ship container to around the volume of a decently sized bus.
As the finishing touches were made by the spiders filling the smaller gaps with some of the smaller chunks, the hornets went back to work. I order the spiders to start trying to make a gate of some sort with whatever they could find from the farther off buildings that haven't been stripped yet.
Getting a notification that the drones in production have finished, I gather up all of the new drones and have them line up at the front of the factory. For eight of the ants I split them up into four groups of two and have them be accompanied by two woodpeckers for each ant and I send three of the groups to set up positions on the newly created barricade and the fourth I send to reinforce the path patrol groups slightly diminished numbers. With the last two ants I have something special for them in the form of their own personal fire beetle.
As the said fire beetles crawl onto the ant drones I can see the nervous looks that they are giving me, obviously scared of their new companions on account of the latest incident that ended with one less ant.
"Don't worry guys, they are just to keep anything off your backs. And in the worst case scenario you guys just drop them off at a chokepoint and clear out what is left after they are done." This seems to ease the concerns of my ants as they stop looking back to the armed explosives that are now going to be with them for the percival future. As for the beetles reaction to the insinuation that they would be left behind, they seemed to not be bothered by this in the slightest. Maybe it is because of their suicidal nature or they just think they can take whatever is thrown at them but what ever it is along as they do not take down any friendlies with them they are allowed to think whatever they want to.
I have the pair of ants and their new fiery friends set up inside the factory as a last resort and because I am pretty sure that fire is not exactly long ranged. And with that I can confidently say that they will not take out my core without a fight. Although, looking at my current material stockpile, it has cost a decent chunk of my current finances. Sighing to myself, knowing that it means I have to start sending my drones out to strip the buildings again.
Although I do have these new miner drones and I do have a mineshaft over at the outpost. Adding that to the list of things to do, I check on the attack party to see if the repairs are finished yet and I find that they were done a while ago but I was to focused on the spiders dragging a particularly large chunk of rubble at the time and I just ignored it.
Hopping back into my vessel drone, I get back to moving through the unfinished buildings with my drones scuttling in tow.
———
As the sun rises high into the sky after another nine hours of marching, my drones and I are only a half dozen minutes away from the enemy outpost. I order the rat scouts to move in and check for any hostile drones before creeping forward with the rest of my forces after the scouts give the all clear.
As I crest the hill, on which my drones and I have been advancing on, I spot the set of four warehouses which were positioned into a 2x2 grid.
Wonder why out of all the buildings around in this district, why would the warehouses be the only buildings constructed. Actually never mind they were probably storing all the building materials there, at least before whatever happened to all the people. Pressing those thoughts to the back of my mind, I focus on the few drones moving around the outpost. From what my scouts could see from their positions, the garrison seems to only consist of a few hornets, a small team of 3 moles, and a bunch of spider drones because of course they would find construction drones at a construction site.
The spiders looked to be moving in and out of the various warehouses ferrying around materials. The hornets and moles seem to be on standby and have taken up patrolling the area to pass the time.
I send in my hornet team to take on their MAI counterparts while I help position my scorpions and hounds to get ready to fight off the moles. I hear the "thunk" sound of the hornets firing off their salvo and it seems that the moles heard it too as they begin to tunnel downwards. As they do this my scorpions start taking pop shots on the moles and on some of the spiders that started moving towards my position.
Unfortunately the moles were able to get underground and I could feel the rumbling already as they started to drill their way towards me. Spreading my drones out we wait for the enemies to approach. And approach they did as two of the moles burst out of the ground and managed to hit one of my hounds in the side and graze one of my scorpions in the legs.
My hounds and scorpions move in to engage in melee and do so quite effectively due to their obvious number advantage. While they do that I look around for the third mole and find none, but I could still feel the rumbling of the drill which meant it was not far. Wondering what could have made it not burst out of the ground immediately, my eyes landed on my repair team sitting on my moose.
Realizing what was about to happen, I break into a sprint and rush back over to them. But it is too late as the mole strikes the moose in the side as it flies out from the earth. I made it there shortly after but the mole had already done significant damage to my drones and had destroyed two of my spiders before I got there. Grabbing one of the arms of the mole drone I fling it back, away from my vulnerable drones.
The mole hits the ground and skits to halt by using one of its shield bearing arms to dig into the dirt and thus slows itself in the process. Attempting to leave the drone with no time to recover I rush forward once again and try to grab onto the drone's rather smooth body. The mole rather predictably resists and swipes at me a few times earning a few shallow gashes on my arms and chest.
I grab onto the nose drill to gain some kind of purchase on the body of the mole and quickly realize my mistake as the mole activates its drill and shreds my hand. Releasing my grip, I stumble back from the pain of the gashes. Thankfully the mole does not press its advantage but instead decides to back up as well, recovering its strength.
One of my hornets seems to have noticed me struggling against the mole and decides to help by firing a spike into the stomach of the mole. I move forward and grab onto the spike and begin to hold the mole in place while slamming my fist into the top of its head over and over again. Soon not long after the moles head has more in common with a crater than a functional cranial structure.
Dropping the corpse and looking behind me I find that my drones have finished off their targets with minimal damage taken. Looking over my still healthy units I grab up some of the hounds and hornets that are undamaged and start moving down the now mostly empty paths of the warehouses.

2023.06.05 00:05 GodGoblin My version of Demi-Human Classes for The Black Hack. Would love any feedback.
So I haven't been satisfied with the Demi Human races I've found around online for TBH. They tend to either have far too few, or too many, abilities. Or they don't follow the design philosophy of TBH.
I have the made the classic Dwarf, Hobbit and Elf with exactly that in mind. They aren't particularly ground breaking, I haven't made any bold choices, theyre really standard D&D races, based on the old race as class versions, meaning they are ultimately just variations on the Warrior, Thief and Wizard. I've included my rationale and thought process after each class.
I feel as I've essentially made alternatives to the other 3, I should make an alt cleric with a race class to round it out. Maybe a Gnome? I'm not sure.
Would love any feedback or ideas you have!
Dwarf
Starting HP: 1d4+8 Hit Dice: 1d10 Proficiencies: All Weapons and Armour
Equipment: Every Dwarf starts with a thick, decorative belt that indicates their nation of origin. Also, choose A or B- A- Dwarven plate (Heavy Armour), helmet, large melee weapon, 2d6 coins, a small carved stone trinket. B- Chainmail (Medium Armour), a large or regular ranged weapon, Ud8 ammunition, hand axe, 1d6 coins, a trophy from a hunted beast.
Abilities- Dark Vision: Can see in pitch darkness, and does not suffer from panic as a result of running out of light sources.
Dwarven Fortitude: Roll with advantage when saving vs poison, or being knocked down.
Dealer of Death: As per fighter.
Gaining a new level: Roll a d20 for each attribute, if you roll over, it goes up one point. Make an Extra roll for either Strength or Constitution. Gain 1HD, roll a d10 and gain that many additional HP Gain a damage die as per Warrior.
(The idea here was to make an alternate Warrior, but with a focus more on resilience with the Fortitude and additional HP vs the human warrior's resourcefulness with the repairing and shield bash. I kept the Dealer of Death so a Dwarf doesn't feel left behind offensively, as it is essentially still a Warrior.)
Hobbit
Starting HP: 1d6+2 Hit Dice: 1d6 Proficiencies: Light armour, and all weapons except for large weapons. No large shields. Attack: 1d6/1d4 unarmed
Equipment: Every Hobbit starts with a set of cooking utensils and a choice of either A or B- A- Cloth Gambeson (Light armour), sling, Ud8 ammunition, club, warm cloak, 2d6 gold, smoking pipe, Ud4 tobacco. B- Hardened leather armour (Light armour), light crossbow, Ud8 ammunition, black cloak, short sword, 2d8 gold and lock picks.
Abilities- Halfling Guile: Gain advantage when- -Moving Silently or Unseen. -Persuading, performing, deceiving or entertaining. - Performing delicate tasks
Small Frame: -2 to defend rolls vs larger enemies
Brave: Advange when saving vs fear-based effects
Forager: Once per session can increase the Ud of all party's rations by one stage.
Gaining a new level: Roll a d20 for each attribute, if you roll over, it goes up one point. Make an Extra roll for either Charisma or Dexterity. Gain 1HD, roll a d6 and gain that many additional HP
(The idea here was to make an alternate Thief but with more of a focus on social abilities. They obviously do not have the same damage output of a Thief due to not having sneak attack, but instead gain a defensive boost due to their small size. Another option would be to give them a bonus Armour Dice that refreshes automatically every combat to represent thier small size, but I am planning on hacking the armour system to a damage reduction idea, so I have gone with a bonus to dodge. Also instead of Forager increasing the Ud of rations they could gain advantage when rolling to forage, but I felt they already had too many Gain Advantage abilities.)
Elf
Starting HP: 1d6+4 Hit Dice: 1d6 Proficiencies: Light and medium armour, Light shields, all weapons except for large. Damage: 1d6/1d4 unarmed
Equipment: Every elf starts with a spell book containing 2 level 1 spells of your choosing. Also, choose A or B- A- Breastplate (Medium Armour), scimitar, shield, 2d6 gold, and a fine elven cloak. B- Delicate Elven chain shirt (Light armour), a staff, fine silk robes, 2d8 gold, wineskin filled with elven wine.
Abilities: Dark Vision: Can see in pitch darkness, and does not suffer from panic as a result of running out of light sources.
Fey Blood: Gain advantage when saving vs charm, sleep, or paralysis.
Warrior-Mage: On odd-numbered levels the Elf will learn one spell as a Wizard. They count as a Wizard of half their level (Rounded up) for this purpose. With the exception that once an Elf casts a spell it is forgotten until the next day's meditation, they do not roll to check if it can be retained for an additional casting.
On even-numbered levels the Elf will gain a damage dice as per a Warrior's Dealer of Death ability.
Gaining a new level: Roll a d20 for each attribute, if you roll over, it goes up one point. Make an Extra roll for either Intelligence or Dexterity. Gain 1HD, roll a d6 and gain that many additional HP Gain a spell or damage dice as per Warrior-Mage ability.
(The idea here was to make a WarrioWizard like the original D&D Elf. I felt giving them alternating spells and combat dice was an effective way to do this without making the Elf just better than either class, or having to slow levelling progression etc. I added the caveat that Elves are unable to roll to see if they retain spells, as a way to stop them just being a more resilient Wizard at level 1, as well as having a much smaller starting spell book.)

2023.06.05 00:03 Rach_Rubens [Concept] Killer: "The projet"
Hello, I present to you version V.01 of my killer "The Project." It's still a prototype, and there are many things to modify. I'm interested in your opinion
(Feel free to ask me any questions.)
Quick lore: During the Cold War, America was working on a project called "Num-mother." Several women were used in a soldier program that utilized mind conditioning technology. Unfortunately, the project turned out to be a failure, resulting in severe mental alteration in the subjects.
Today, these subjects form a hive mind, using their mental abilities to torment unfortunate victims.
Name: 08-18ML
Size: Medium
Speed: Medium
Terror Radius: 24 meters < abilities
Power : The Broadcast
This ability is a unique mini-game. All survivors receive a broadcast of repeating numbers with pauses to allow memorizing the sequence.
Survivors must find 3 terminals to input the number combinations in the specified order. A high-pitched sound notifies the killer that the survivors have blocked a part of the broadcast. If the broadcast is not stopped within 5 minutes, all survivors die. If the broadcast is stopped, the killer lets out a scream, revealing their aura to the survivors for 5 seconds.
Secondary Power: Mind Reading
The killer can read the mind of the targeted survivor. The survivor screams to indicate the progress of the mind reading. Each tier (5 tiers in total) increases the difficulty of the next broadcast.
Additional Information:
- The aura of the terminals is visible before the start of the broadcast but is no longer visible once the broadcast begins.
- The killer moves at half their usual speed during the broadcast.
Survivors cannot interact with generators during the broadcast.
- The broadcast takes 5 minutes to trigger.
video to give an overview of the broadcast:
https://imgur.com/a/SdHKhyf Perk: Last Among Us
When the killer damages a generator, survivors within 10/12/14 meters of the generator suffer from the "Exposed" status effect.
Perk: Hex Obscure
4 totems are active at the start of the match. Each time a survivor completes a generator, 1 totem activates. When all 5 totems are active, the "Blindness" status effect is applied to all survivors for 150/160/170 seconds. The killer gains a 3/4/5% speed bonus.
Perk: MK-Ultima
When a survivor interacts with an object, it triggers the Killer's Instinct for 1/2/3 seconds.
I have a video that shows the beginning of the broadcast.
Tomorrow, I will post "The Survivor" along with a lore page if you're interested.
Have a good evening/day, and thank you for reading

2023.06.04 23:47 1nnewyorkimillyrock Is a graduate program worth it?
I’ve been making short films since high school, I have 11 serious ones under my belt and have a some success in festivals (not much, and not any big festivals) and I just recently graduated from a mid sized university.
I am at a serious cross road with where to go next, I didn’t meet anyone at school that has enough drive to continue after school, and trying to make films post graduation is just a constant struggle to get people to care enough to collaborate.
All I ever hear about the industry is that connections are what matters most. I’m starting to consider a graduate program, mainly just to meet people with a comparable work ethic that I can collaborate with, or just to make some connections in the industry through my professors or colleagues. I am an extremely hard worker and I know I’d take full advantage of any opportunities there, I just question if it’s worth going into debt.
I’m very scared I’ll be stuck making films at this level the rest of my life if I don’t take a step to make actual industry connections. I don’t want to keep begging people for money to make films that the big festivals might not even screen when submitted. Is a graduate program worth the debt if I work as hard as I possibly can while there? I’m US based, and live nowhere near a main production city.
Edit: I want to eventually direct feature films, and I find that a lot of the directors breaking in currently had backing from prestigious schools. I’d truly appreciate any opinions/guidance!!
